Morning Devotional...

I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys...as the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
Song of Solomon 2:1, 3

During the cold, harsh winter everything is buried deep beneath the snows, waiting for the warming sun to melt it all away.

Life has its seasons and its times. Perhaps this is the winter of life for you--cold, dreary and lonely.

But listen to the Saviour's voice, "I am the rose of Sharon, I am the lily of the valley."

Rest in the comforting shadow of His person and His presence. This will drive away the blues and cheer the heart.
--James Comte

Who can cheer the heart like Jesus
by His presence all divine?
True and tender, pure and precious,
O how blest to call Him mine!

Thank-you Jesus, thank-you Pat
I can cope with this short one for today and will use the words as I plod along for indeed this is the coldest time of the Winter for us so far and a real "shut-in" time.

God is so good the way He cares for us. He is even getting the chemist to deliver me a made up prescription.  The first one got lost in the post and it's too late for Chris to collect another and have it made up at the chemist before I run out of my regular treatments so Ann the doctor's receptionist has given it to the dispenser direct., should be delivered to my door later today. Thanks Lord!

Liz

Don't lurk too long.  If we all lurked there wouldbe no C.P.  Anyway I want to know how things work out. Poor sis. I do know the feeling, everything comes at once. Just as we reach the top of one mountain there is another one.

:) :) God is so good and I am more than blessed to be able to have a site like this with Christian sisters and brothers.

Thanks, Ria, for the Bible verse & poems that you insert each day.  They are a joy to read.  I pray that you wil complete all you want today as you await the pastor coming to see you tomorrow.

I am praying for all of you in the COLD. I do not think I could survive in that kind of weather.  I am too much of a weakling.

Jenny, I am glad you can get the medicine you need on time.

And when He putteth for His own sheep
He goes before them:
God is in every tomorrow
Therefore I live for today,
Certain of finding at sunrise,
Guidance and strength for the way;
Power for each moment of weakness,
Hope for each moment of pain,
Comfort for every sorrow,
Sunshine and joy after rain

Hello dear,

I was just telling Lee on another thread that this puter is a means for me to Fellowship with other Christians as I can't get out in the cold weather.  No one nearby with a car to take me.I suffer extemely from cold weather conditions, quite frighteningly in fact.

I read "Streams in the Desert"...Vol 2.

Todays Reading from Volume 2:-

"They that wait on the Lord shall mount up with wings as eagles" Is 40:31

We should make use of these adverse conditions

There is a lesson to be learned from the eagle who sits on the edge of the precipice and watches the dark clouds overhead filling the sky with blackness .  There he sits perfectly still, turning one eye and then the other towards the storm as the forked lightenings play back and forth.  He never moves a feather until he feels the first burst of the breeze.  It is then that he knows the hurricane has struck him.  With a scream he swings his breast to the storm....

It is the storm itself that he uses to soar upward into the black sky.  He goes borne upon it.

God wants this experience to take place in the lives of every one of His children! He wants us to "mount up on wings as eagles!"

We can turn the storm into a chariot!

Love Jenny  :D

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  I am going to post as I get my day started rather than later when I am tired, as I did yesterday.  My schedule is much lighter today as only play to go walking after coffee and then go to choir practice this evening.

I can't imagine temperatures so cold as those of you in the North are experiencing.  I am very thankful that I can live here in the South where we seldom have a day that stays below freezing all day long and the winters are short.

Jeanne, sure sorry to read that Gene may be experiencing problem with his heart.  It is certainly a good thing he had his check-up.  I sure hope he is being very careful of the cold weather.  My heart doctor told me at my last visit to avoid the cold as much as possible and certainly not to walk outside for any distance.  Hope the medication will quickly remove the fluid.

Judyb, sure hope you have lots of wood available for your furnace.  BRRRR.

Liz, the experiences of moving can be very trying.  My worst moving experience was years ago when we lived in Kentucky in a mobile home the park was very undesirable and as soon as I could I found another place to move.  The big truck came to move the mobile home and as he pulled out of the park onto the main road he turned too sharply and the wheels on one side of the mobile home when off into a ditch and the mobile home tilted way over.  He couldn't get out and I had to go purchase heavy duty plywood to put under the wheels.  Eventually he did get pulled out and when we got inside everything was all right.  On another move we made I went into the living room and found the moving men had my piano on its back, which I didn't think was very good.  This was the move where the mover had hired someone from the street in Washington, DC to help him and the man must not have had a bath in 3 weeks.  It was awful.   ::)

Liz, glad you got your computer running again and that your clock decided to run.  Maybe it just needed to thaw out!  :D

Ruthie, it sounds like you have a good class and your excitement for being about the Lord's work is evident in your posting.

Lee, your posting on pride and a lapse of concentration while praying seems to fit me pretty well.  Glad to know I am not the only one who struggles with this.

Judy, sure hope Norm benefits from the pain injections.  Hope you can stay in where it is warm.

Al, thanks for the message regarding how well Marilyn is doing.  Sure she must be looking forward to getting home to her dogs.

Karma, Travis knows where to go for the goodies.  They learn at a very young age.  Does he like for you to read to him?

Jane, sure hope you are feeling more upbeat this morning.  It sounds like you have been having some rough times.  I am certainly glad you have the Saviour to hold your hand and see you through these times so you don't have to carry the burdens alone.

Etta Sue, it sounds like Inky is giving you a lot of pleasure and I expect Ali and Inky will have a great time together in the future.  I have often thought that if we ever got another cat that it would be good to have two so they could be company for each other.  Our cat seems to think he is a person--a very demanding, opinionated one also! ;D

Jenny, glad you will be having your medicine delivered and not have to get out in the cold.  I don't think they deliver around here but in the small town where my folks lived the drug stores would deliver prescriptions.

Our son should be finished with his business in China and now they are going to spend a couple of days sight-seeing before flying back home on Saturday.

Time to go to the cafe for coffee with my retired friends.

As I did my devotional reading this morning the chapter for today from the book "The Purpose Driven Life" involves surrendering our lives to God.  The following hymn kept running through my mind and I decided I should post it here today.

I Surrender All
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Judson W. Van DeVenter, 1855-1939 alt.
Musician:  Winfield S. Weeden, 1847-1908

All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

Refrain

I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

Refrain

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

Refrain

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

Refrain

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!

Refrain

Jenny:  I hope that your meds get to you on time.  It is good that they are taking care of you so quickly.

Sonja:  Good Morning Sunshine!

Judy:  Sorry to hear about Norm's pain and I hope that they can get an handle on it very soon.

Jeanne Lee:  Good wishes and prayers for your husband as well.

Liz:  Nice story about your cuckoo clock.

Ria:  I have meant to comment before this on your really neat figures you have been putting in the posts - you are really learning quickly.  I need some lessons.

Larry: Moving is always a challenge and as long as no one gets hurt, I always feel it is a success. Yes, dealing with the street people is an odorous adventure - .

I am praying for snow.  Well folks if there is snow the temp is up!  Our furnace kept the chill out last night, I loaded it up when I went to bed and there were still hot coals this AM.  I didn't need a lot of kindling, (we're out of kindling) just the wood and way we go.

I read this in a devotional thought you would enjoy as I have.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore brethern, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

I just want to be a Nobody, willing to tell Everybody,
that there is a Somebody, who can save Anybody.

This was a statement given by Melvin Graham, Billy Graham's younger brother, on TV.

Janet

Good morning!  Good to read all the posts so far this morning, and those posted after mine yesterday evening.

I went to a basketball game last night in our new High School gymnasium.  It is really a nice gym!  And our boys won!  The reason I wanted to go is because one of the stars on the team is a boy who lived most of his life next door to us out here.  His Dad was in the concrete construction business, and he had a small plane which he flew around from job to job.  He hit a highline wire a few years ago and was killed, leaving a wife and four kids.  Jeff is the youngest, and is now a senior.  He is 6 ft 6 In. tall!  Anyway, they are all scuba divers except the Mom, and have taken several trips with us.  It was good to see them and visit a bit again.  Time just keeps marching on.......

Sarah, if you girls play as rough as those boys do, I can understand why you get lots of bruises!

Tomorrow I have to be up before the chickens and take a friend to Liberal to the hospital.  She is getting a pace maker installed, and is to be there at 7:30!  (Yawn!)  Liberal is 70 miles from here.

Good to know Marilyn is doing well--but that is what I expected from our wonderful Lord!  Take it easy, Marilyn, and don't overdo, just because you feel good!

Liz, I am so sorry your move has been so stressful for all concerned.  I do agree about a lot of workmen, contractors, etc. now.  They only seem concerned about the "bottom line" most of the time.  I will really be sorry when we can no longer do the work ourselves.  At least if we mess up, we don't have to pay extra money out in wages for it!  I think God started your little clock just as a way of saying "I love you, Liz.  Just rest in that and I will carry you through."

Yes, Karma, Etta Sue calls snow "thick rain."  ;D

Hmmmmmm.......I just noticed most of my row of smilies is missing!  Wonder where they went??

Pat, Judy, Judy, Jeanne, and all others in the frozen Northland----I sure hope it warms up soon!  I am findiing I do not tolerate the cold nearly as well as I used to do.

Paulette, thanks for the update on Jen.  She is a busy girl!

Larry, please take care of yourself and don't overdo.  We need you around here, and your posts are always so nice to read.

Papa John, where are you?  We miss you when you stay away for a few days!

I am getting chilled so I better head back downstairs and warm up.

You can't be too kind or too generous.

Chandraya is doing much better today.  She will be able to go to dance.    She is excited!

Thanks! (((hug)))

Etta Sue

Janet ~ You and me, both, are praying this arm will be all better after the injection!  Yes, thick rain is snow!!!!!!  I am praying you have a wonderful vacation in the warm climate and waters.  Bring back pictures!!!!

Ria ~ You said you were going away for the evening.  How was your evening?  Great?  Thank you for your prayers.

Jane ~ IRS problems?  Maybe it is the west coast?  Al and you, both!  Just kidding.  But I know it isn't a laughing matter dealing with the IRS!!!!

Pat Scott ~ Accidents are terrible.  When I read your post, which I know was a lot of hours later, I said a quick prayer for all involved in the accident near London.  My thoughts went to 1987 when my parents were in a auto accident on Jan 13.  Dad was killed instantly and Mom was flown by Lifeline to Indianapolis.

Paulette ~ Good to see you popping in and yes, where's Jen?  Edit:  I see Jen is busy with working and planning.

Chris ~  Thick rain?  Thick rain is snow.  Rain is a lot better word than snow.  Snow is prettier but rain is safer.  Thick rain....

Larry ~ You make me tired just reading what you do in one day!  If I were any slower, I would be going backwards!!!!  Yes, the count down to being painfree is going slow.  About cats...someone said that orange cats are sweet and black cats are smart.  I believe it.  Inky goes under my swivel rocker that has a skirt around the bottom.  Ali sees Inky go under there but immediately looks around as if to say, 'Where did she go?'  So funny!

Karma ~ I had to laugh at Travis loving going to the bank.  Our small town bank has suckers, too!  But my brother's dog loves to go to the bank, too.  She gets a doggy biscuit at the bank!  And McD?  All kids love McD!!!  Big and little!!!

Al ~ Thanks for the report from Marilyn.  Yes, they do get you up soon.  Almost a false security.  If you can walk, then you can .......  But tell her to milk it for all she can.  Let someone else do for her now!

Jenny ~ God is good and he deserves all the praise we can offer to Him.  Hope you get your medicine delivered right on time.

Judy Mc ~ The specialist didn't say 'freezing' or 'cortizone'.  All I know is I will be sedated. Then he will do the injection via x-ray.  It is something that will heal the disturbed nerve as well as numb the nerve/area.  When I know more, I will report more.

Lee ~ Pride is a trait that most of us have.  I wonder if there is a Bible study on pride, proud, vain, vanity?

Sue ~ Crochet?  I wish I had a project going.  Two things...well, three things, are stopping me.  One, this pain.  Two, Ali.  Three, Inky!!!!  What do you like to crochet?  I know I have an afghan to make before October this year....a step-granddaughter is getting married.

Jeanne ~ Oh, that isn't good news for Gene.  I am praying that all is well.  My BP was high at the specialist this week.  First time ever.  But she wasn't concerned because of why I was there.  She stated that pain elevates your BP.  I can understand that!

Ruthie ~ You certainly need prayer to go out in teams of 3 in the cold weather you have up there.  You are in my prayers.

Liz ~ I know what you mean about people on not caring for the customer.  They are out for the mighty dollar.  I had one person to do work for me...installing outside doors front and back, new kitchen sink, garbage disposal, bathroom countertop and sink and railing on basement stairs.  Well, he claimed to be a Christian.  But when I didn't hear from him for 3 weeks, I hired someone else to redo...yes, redo...what he did and finish the work.  He even moved in those 3 weeks.  Out to scam.  Thank God, I didn't pay him other than the cost of the products he left here.

JudyB ~ I only remember one time it was -50°F here.  Christmas time.  My husband and I left Christmas Eve for Alabama to have Christmas with his family.  Our Chevy Citation did fine but the windows frosted up on the inside with the heater running full blast.  We did stop just south of Nashville and got a room.  Soooo cold!  When we got to Alabama, nearly everywhere, the water pipes were froze up!!!

Kathy ~ Yes, we are all blessed to have CP.

Sarah ~ Glad you stopped in on your way to school.  Glad you won your game.

Carol ~ It must be cold in Colorado.  How are you fairing the weather?

Sonja ~ Love that freezing cold smiley!  You do have some great ones.  How is the family?  I am sure I am speaking for all...we miss Zachary!!!!!  Hi Chandraya...are you feeling better?  Troy, how is the swimming coming along?  Did you win your meet in Cheyenne or it is coming up?  Lila Mae, you are doing so great with the Potty training.  Mike, bet you feel like you can breathe now that Christmas is over and not as many packages to deliver.  Mom/Sonja, I just have to smile when I think of your smiling face and how great your family is.

Hi Everyone!

When I got up this morning, my bedroom windows were all iced over inside.  I have the blinds up and a fan blowing on them to see if I can defrost them.  It's so cold and yes, Sonja, that's the cutest little smilie!  I've saved it.  It sure describes us up here!

Liz, I'm sorry to read what you've been going through.  But keep on joining in here.  I'm sure that it will help.  I was wondering how Al is doing, Liz.  I'm praying daily for him.

I'm so glad that you had your prescription delivered, Jenny.  That's so good in this cold weather.  Does Chris still live at home?  Could he pick up some of these items for you?  How is he doing now in his job?

Glad your furnace was going this morning, Judy.  We had a big old furnace for wood in Maple when we lived there and what a burden it was to keep it going.

Wow, Janet, tomorrow will be an early start for you for sure.  I hope you don't have snow to drive in.  I'll have an early start tomorrow too.  I'm headed for London for the whole day!  I'll have to leave here at about 7 am and I won't be home till mid evening.  I'm taking my lunch with me.

It's too cold here to snow, Etta Sue!  So, no "thick rain" for us yet.  I see some flakes trying to come down but hardly any.  I do pray that your pain will be alleviated after the injection.

I'm glad that Chandraya is feeling so much better, Sonja!

I love this...

QuoteIf we marinate in his word then we feel the love and feel renewed.
Oh that we might all "marinate in His Word together!

What an exciting time for Jen, Paulette!  Where is the wedding going to take place?  I'll have to go and get some photos for CP!  That was my mother's birthday so I won't forget that date.

Thanks Larry for the hymn.  I have it playing in the background here.  Oh that we might all completely surrender our all to God!

I'm so happy to read that you, Kathy, find Christian Photographers site a blessing to you each day.

QuoteGod is so good and I am more than blessed to be able to have a site like this with Christian sisters and brothers.

Hi Ria!  I hope that your eyes are much better.  Are they?  I love your little poem today.  I'm going to print that out and put it in my Bible where I'll see it often.

Gosh..It sure is busy in here this afternoon.

I decided to pop in as its so cold outside and there's only our old friend "Columbo" on .T.V. ( I love him but enough's enough).  I've been sat watching and doing some more of my rug, it's growing! Slow but sure...yes 'me' again, "slowly slowly catchee monkey."

SoniI am glad the words meant something to you dear.  We must thank Kathy as she was reading Streams in the Desert, different volume and it put me in  mind of my own daily devotional. We are all parts of the Same Body, Soni, Kathy and me.
Soni A lovely true story re "wings of Eagles" a dear sister in Christ from Prayer For Israel Fellowship was flying to Israel, her first journey by plane a few years ago.  She was given a vision of an eagle flying and that scripture from Isaiah. As she walked  towards the plane see saw the Eagle Logo on the side of the plane., wings stretched out.  Wow!

Etta Sue I have to stop to get my breath back lately.  Your posts are sooooooo long, no offence.  I enjoy reading them.  You are a sweetheart to think of everyone.  God Bless sis to you and Jerry.  Hope your pain is eased now.

Pat Yes Chris is still living at home.  However it's some distance to our doctors and not on the main bus route to his work.  In Summer I pop down on my scooter but in Winter I can phone them or send a stamped envelope for return of prescription and Chris normally gets it made up for me in the City.  However, the latest one seems to have got lost in the post so Ann , the receptionist organised the chemist to make it up for me and deliver it to me direct.  He does this for me sometimes if I am stuck.  There is a lot of competition, not many independent Chemists exist any more.  It has now been delivered folks so I am O.K. Praise God!  Aren't we lucky brethren Our God is so good to us...all in the Name of Jesus.

RiaLord you hold my tomorrows in Your Hand..and You Hold My hand in all My todays and tomorrows.

Keep warm and keep praising God.

Another cute "smilie" Sonja--the swimming one!  How cute!  I am now reading a book about the first man to swim across the English Channel.  He swam the breaststroke, of all things!  I cannot imagine swimming so far with that stroke.

I just took Beth to town to deliver a baby gift to my sister's new grandbaby.  She is filling out fast and is such a little sweetheart.  I got to rock her to sleep.  Is there anything as enjoyable as rocking a little baby?

Ria, I also enjoy your little poems and the Scriptures you quote for us.  God bless you, dear sister.

Pat, I will think of and pray for you on the roads tomorrow.  I do hope the appointment and the trip will not be anywhere near as stressful as the last one!

I read this little poem yesterday and enjoyed it, thought some of you might like it too.

More of My presence
More of My Love
More of the wisdom
which comes from above.

More of My favor
More of My grace
More of My patience
to finish your race.

More of My power
More of My might
More of My faith
to fight the good fight.

More of My goodness
and Mercy, too
More of My blessing
will come upon you.

Increase will come
as never before
Yes, 2004 is your year
for more!

Just a quick Hi while I eat my lunch at work.

Must tell you about a dream last night; I was
giving dancing lessons to specially handicapped children
I was also very, very young (around Karmet and Sonja's age)
.
Then I was with my daughter's ex-father in law and he asked if I heard any good "tag lines."

I said yes, Sonja is a delight and I love her tag line
God never takes you to a door without opening it for you

I told him that was almost like she said it--he told me to ask her permission if he may use it in his correspondence.

Isn't that crazy??I never met Sonja and I keep remembering her words--I hope that that was right.

Please, Sonja, if you have a chance --write it down again.

When I see him in person, I will tell him about the dream and the saying.

I know he will love it ( a fabulous Christian man) and he will share it

Thanks,

Love in Christ,
Joyce

Getting things second hand  is not really the answer, especially when it comes to personal problems, nothing beats waiting in stillness before  the One Who loves us so much, that He is willing to feed us personally, No-one is  unimportant to God!
When He gave His Son for us, He showed His great love towards us. :)

Personal Life: Personal Feeding on God's Word

Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.
--Psalm 119:97

I remember James M. Gray, the noted Bible teacher, telling of a
Christian brother, a Michigan farmer, whose spiritual life had
suddenly blossomed until there was an overflowing of God's presence.
Many in the man's community recognized the change in his life and
personality and sought spiritual counsel from him. Dr. Gray had
opportunity to ask the man about the transformation of his spiritual
life and witness.

"Dr. Gray, I began to devote myself to the Scriptures for my own
need," the man humbly explained. "Something happened when God
opened my spiritual understanding as I studied the book of
Ephesians. I cannot really explain what the Lord is doing for me
and through me, but it has come through prayerful meditation in
the Word of God."

None of us can expect to get the rich, transforming blessings from
God apart from the Scriptures....

Too many  ministers and Sunday school teachers are content to
reach for a commmentary on the Scriptures. What we need most is to
search the Scriptures for ourselves.  Men Who Met God, 47.

"The commentaries are so convenient, Lord, and the time pressures
so acute. Deliver me today from the short-cuts, and help me to
discipline myself to long, concentrated study of the Scriptures
themselves. Amen."
