The Blood of Jesus washes away our past
and
the Name of Jesus opens up our future.
Jesse Duplantis

Morning Devotional...

Jesus Describes John
Matthew 11:1-30  NLT

1When Jesus had finished giving these instructions to his twelve disciples, he went off teaching and preaching in towns throughout the country.

2John the Baptist, who was now in prison, heard about all the things the Messiah was doing. So he sent his disciples to ask Jesus, 3"Are you really the Messiah we've been waiting for, or should we keep looking for someone else?"

4Jesus told them, "Go back to John and tell him about what you have heard and seen-- 5the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor. 6And tell him: `God blesses those who are not offended by me.' "

7When John's disciples had gone, Jesus began talking about him to the crowds. "Who is this man in the wilderness that you went out to see? Did you find him weak as a reed, moved by every breath of wind? 8Or were you expecting to see a man dressed in expensive clothes? Those who dress like that live in palaces, not out in the wilderness. 9Were you looking for a prophet? Yes, and he is more than a prophet. 10John is the man to whom the Scriptures refer when they say,

`Look, I am sending my messenger before you,
and he will prepare your way before you.'

11"I assure you, of all who have ever lived, none is greater than John the Baptist. Yet even the most insignificant person in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he is! 12And from the time John the Baptist began preaching and baptizing until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has been forcefully advancing, and violent people attack it. 13For before John came, all the teachings of the Scriptures looked forward to this present time. 14And if you are willing to accept what I say, he is Elijah, the one the prophets said would come. 15Anyone who is willing to hear should listen and understand!

16"How shall I describe this generation? These people are like a group of children playing a game in the public square. They complain to their friends, 17`We played wedding songs, and you weren't happy, so we played funeral songs, but you weren't sad.' 18For John the Baptist didn't drink wine and he often fasted, and you say, `He's demon possessed.' 19And I, the Son of Man, feast and drink, and you say, `He's a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of the worst sort of sinners!' But wisdom is shown to be right by what results from it."

20Then Jesus began to denounce the cities where he had done most of his miracles, because they hadn't turned from their sins and turned to God. 21"What horrors await you, Korazin and Bethsaida! For if the miracles I did in you had been done in wicked Tyre and Sidon, their people would have sat in deep repentance long ago, clothed in sackcloth and throwing ashes on their heads to show their remorse. 22I assure you, Tyre and Sidon will be better off on the judgment day than you! 23And you people of Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to the place of the dead. For if the miracles I did for you had been done in Sodom, it would still be here today. 24I assure you, Sodom will be better off on the judgment day than you."

25Then Jesus prayed this prayer: "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding the truth from those who think themselves so wise and clever, and for revealing it to the childlike. 26Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!

27"My Father has given me authority over everything. No one really knows the Son except the Father, and no one really knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

28Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light."

How would you want Jesus to summarize your life?

As John sat in prison, he began to have some doubts about whether Jesus really was the Messiah.  Jesus answered John's doubts by pointing to the miracles in which the blind, lame, and deaf were healed, the lepers were cured, the dead were raised, and the gospel was preached to the poor.  With so much evidence, Jesus' identity was obvious.

If you sometimes doubt your salvation, the forgiveness of your sins, or God's work in your life, look at the evidence in Scripture and the changes in your life.  When you doubt, don't turn away from Christ; turn to him.

I can't seem to get warm today.  It must be all the snow outside and the wind still blowing.  Brrrrr!

We had a great time playing cards tonight.  But Ivalou still has snacks leftover.  Come on over and have some snacks!!!

You betcha, Etta Sue ... I don't usualy "play" any of the fun stuff y'all do, but I sure know what to do with snacks!     Thanks for the devotional ... sorry you are having trouble keeping warm.  We don't have snow here on the left coast but it is still rather chilly unless you have a nice fre blazing in the stove like I do.   ;)  C'mpn over and we'll make popcorn and watch a movie .... Nita was here the other night and watched March of The Penguns with me ... we had popcorn, too!   :D

Y'all take care ... I got things to do, places to go and people to see .... Talk with y'all later ...............
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Nita

Hi all.  This is my first time here today.  I think.  It's so hard to remember all the way to this morning. :)

Jane, it is getting sort of chilly, huh?  I'm so glad you have wood to burn and keep warm.

Etta Sue, I really like what Jesse D. said:

The Blood of Jesus washes away our past  and the Name of Jesus
opens up our future.

This is a wonderful and true statement.  :) :) :)  Thanks for posting that.

Well, I have to go too, but I have no places to go and no people to see. haha

Night everyone.  Nita

Adri

Hello everybody.

Today is the first time in I don't know how long I finally got a chance to make a turn here.  I've missed the morning devotionals

Nothing much has happened here, accept that my employer was on leave for the last week and now that he's back I can finally take time to surf the net and see what you all have been up to. I wish that I could live in a country where it snowed, it must be beautiful.

Hope you all have a gr8 day
When life beats you down...ask God to beat it right back.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  We are just back from coffee.  Pat went with me this morning and walked the block to the elementary school to meet with the counseler.  She is going to volunteer once a week at the school along with another lady from our Senior Group.  She and I did this 7 years ago and enjoyed it.

It is suppose to get up to 60 degrees today.  It is still chilly here this morning but sunny.  Adri, had you ever lived where there was much snow you would probably quickly change your mind about living where it snowed.  We have very little snow here in Georgia and that is just the way I like it.  I grew up where we had winter snows and have lived in Alaska and other places in the north where there was a lot of snow and I don't miss it at all.

Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional this morning.  I'll take some of those snacks that Ivalou has left over.  Sounds like you had a nice time last night.

We had a good choir practice last evening although not too many in attendance.  We are signing a really lovely anthem on Sunday that we have done before but it has beautiful music and a beautiful message.

Marilyn, I am glad you got your appointment.  That is probably good advice to have your papers in hand.

Hope everyone has a good day.  This is Calvin Cove afternoon but that is the only thing on the schedule.

Marilyn

Good Morning Thanks Etta Sue for the devotional.

Today I am taking Jan (92) to the Mall and to Costco to shop then we are going to have lunch someplace, don't know yet where. I am going to be  taking one of Versals afternoons and working for Jan another day sometime soon. Sarah (my dil) is in her last semester of the Nursing program and her schedule has changed and she won't be able to work for Jan two days per week anymore, just one. Then when she graduates in May she won't be working for her anymore at all.

Versal is getting more and more dependant on using her wheelchair instead of walking. she only walks in her house. She has a lot of back pain. I don't think I am going to be able to work for here much longer unless she gets another helper for part of the hours to take her the places she need to go using her wheelchair.  It is just too much for me to be lifting in and out of the trunk of my car. I am not supposed to be lifting over 15 lbs, ever since my surgery 2 years ago and I have been doing that. Please pray that she will be able to get some one to take over part of my time with her for now and eventually all of the time so I can go on to something else.

I am looking forward to having more time to do other things.

Hi Everyone.

I've just come down to my computer for the first time today and won't be sitting here long.

thanks for the devotional today, Etta Sue and also, what a cute  graphic.  I so look forward to seeing what you have for us each day!  :)

Adri I hope you are well.  I've missed your Dad for awhile.  Is he away?  Maybe just the difference in time.

Hi Nita and Jane...  Great to see you.

Larry sounds like a nice little project for Pat.  Are her feet doing better?

Hi Melody...great to see you.  I'm happy to see your photos of that great province where you live.

Well, I'm off to get a heating pad and then I'll return later.  I want to get into our gallery and post some comments on Janet's photos.  Have you all seen her photographs?

I love this hymn...

Jesus, I Am Resting, Resting
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Jean S. Piogott, 19th Century
Musician:  James Mountain, 1843-1933

Return unto thy rest, O my soul;
for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.
Psalm 116:7

Author:  Jean S. Piogott, 19th Century
Musician:  James Mountain, 1843-1933

Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.

Refrain
Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.

O, how great Thy loving kindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea!
O, how marvelous Thy goodness,
Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in Thee, Beloved
Know what wealth of grace is Thine,
Know Thy certainty of promise,
And have made it mine.

Refrain

Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart;
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies its every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings:
Thine is love indeed!

Refrain

Ever lift Thy face upon me
As I work and wait for Thee;
Resting 'neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus,
Earth's dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father's glory,
Sunshine of my Father's face,
Keep me ever trusting, resting,
Fill me with Thy grace.

Refrain

Personal Life: Stay in the Secret Place
My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning I will
direct it to You, and I will look up.
--Psalm 5:3
Retire from the world each day to some private spot, even if it be
only the bedroom (for a while I retreated to the furnace room for
want of a better place). Stay in the secret place till the
surrounding noises begin to fade out of your heart and a sense of
God's presence envelops you. Deliberately tune out the unpleasant
sounds and come out of your closet determined not to hear them.
Listen for the inward Voice till you learn to recognize it. Stop
trying to compete with others. Give yourself to God and then be
what and who you are without regard to what others think. Reduce
your interests to a few. Don't try to know what will be of no
service to you. Avoid the digest type of mind--short bits of
unrelated facts, cute stories and bright sayings. Learn to pray
inwardly every moment. After a while you can do this even while you
work. Practice candor, childlike honesty, humility. Pray for a
single eye. Read less, but read more of what is important to your
inner life. Never let your mind remain scattered for very long.
Call home your roving thoughts. Gaze on Christ with the eyes of
your soul. Practice spiritual concentration.  Of God and Men,
128-129.

"Lord, I need all of these practical suggestions. Direct me today
to those things that would most enhance my walk with you, and
enable me to serve You better. Amen."

Janet

Thanks for the "plug", Pat.  It is really discouraging to post photos, and not have any comments on them.  It doesn't make us want to keep on posting.

How are all of you today?  I ran errands this morning, have a couple more to do this afternoon, then am going to Hugoton to spend time with Abby until her Daddy gets off work.  Diane has gone to market in Dallas, and Jeff is working hard trying to get the store put back together so they can reopen.

On TBN they are interviewing politicians in Canada about "Faith and Politics."  It is good!
It is on www.listenuptv.com   if anyone wants to check it out (you Canadians may.)

I am getting geared up for my annual portrait painting class coming up the first week of Febrauary.  I have two commisions to paint!  :)

Larry, what will Pat be doing at the school?  That sounds like something I would enjoy doing, too.

Etta Sue, I want some snacks!  (Can't have them, but sure sounds good!)  I'm still eating fruits and vegetables only.

Marilyn, I sure know what you mean about the heavy wheelchair!  They weighed Beth's while she was in rehab at Dodge, and it weighs 40 lbs!  Way over the 15 you are to lift.

Darrel will go with me to pick up Beth on Saturday, because I don't think I can lift her bags or her chair into the car.  My arm/shoulder is better but not back 100% yet.

I'm off to see if there anre any new comments in my album.   ;)

Good afternoon everyone.

Janet  I will check out your pictures tonight.  I have been having server problems and hopefully it is fixed today.  I have been booted off every minute or so.  Frustrating so I spend little if any time on the internet.

Ruth Anne It is good to see you getting more rest.  We need to take care of our bodies as they are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Good evening Chris.

Thanks for the devotional Etta Sue.  I am sorry you are not able to get warm.  When I am cold like that it is a signal to me that my body is screaming for rest.  Snuggle into bed tonight with lots of blankets and a heating pad and you will soon warm up!

I pray the sleep clinic lets you know what you need Marilyn.  It is rough not getting enough rest.

Good evening Larry.

May God Heap His blessings on you all as well as on the people I have missed
.

Hi everyone.

Pat, it is our daughter who has the problem with her feet and she isn't doing very well at all.  She also has these sores on her leg that won't heal and has been attending a wound clinic three times a week to have her legs soaked in a special solution.  She has now developed a rash and has spread it to her face, something she didn't need to have as it takes forever for her to hear due to the diabetes.

Janet, Pat is going to either be working with an individual student to help with a subject where he/she needs some extra help or may spend her time in the media center helping with students or whatever they have that needs to be done.  I am sure your school would probably jump at the chance to have some volunteer help.  Pat and I did this back about 7 years ago and really enjoyed it.  I am not volunteering this time as just don't need to take on anything else at this time.

Good to see everyone posting.  I got another little story today that has a good message.  Fortunately it isn't as long as the one I posted yesterday.

Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it. From a
distance, each looks like every other horse. But if one stops the car, or
is walking by, one will notice something quite amazing.

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His
owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for
him. This alone is amazing.

Listening, one will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source
of the sound, one will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the
field. Attached to her bridle is a small bell. It lets her blind friend
know where she is, so he can follow her.

As one stands and watches these two friends, one sees how she is always
checking on him, and that he will listen for her bell and then slowly walk
to where she is, trusting that she will not lead him astray.

Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just
because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges.

He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we
are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by God and those whom he
places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others see
God.

Good friends are like stars.........You don't always see them, but you know
they are always there.

Sue

Judy B, we had the freezing rain, but I was in before the worst of it hit.  Bruce worked through it, and said that things were fine for him.  He took it slow and left lots of room between his truck and other vehicles and was fine.

Janet, when the time is exactly right, the perfect buyer will be there.

Larry, this is the second election I will have worked.  It is a long day, but the pay makes it worthwhile.  I wasn't fully prepared for the last one, but knowing what to expect, this time I will be better prepared for the long day.

EttaSue, I will come get some of those treats for my dessert.  I will bring you some of the pizza soup that is simmering and smelling so good on my stove top.  Thank you for sharing the recipe.

Now, must I must go have a look at Janet's new photos, and then have me some pizza soup and fresh rolls for dinner.

Al Moak

Thanks, Larry!  For once it's good to be "horsing around!"

Chris - thanks for the music.  You know how I feel about Cash.  So simple, so real, so unaffected.

Papa John

Nice devotional Etta Sue.  We too have shivered from the cold.  But today we had a nice warm up but it was quite windy.

Jane, I like popcorn too.  The other day I made a big bowl and Cornelia and Martha came and took about two thirds of it.  I'll have to pop me a big bowl when no one else is here.

Hello Nita.  A nice warm fire in the fireplace sounds good to me.  We have gas logs and this year we are trying not use them much but just use the central heating.  We got our gas bill today, $280.00.  I may have to take up a collection.

Adri, sorry you don't have snow down there.  We don't have much in Tennessee where we live.  But we have enough and it isn't always pleasant.

Larry, we got up in the 60's today and had beautiful sunshine.   However it was very windy.  Cornelia and I took our walk  (I road my scooter) in the neighborhood.  We almost blew away.

Marilyn, be careful with that lifting.  I have arthritis in my back in addition to several bulging disks.  That plus my right side being effected from a stroke has really slowed me down.   You need to stick to that 15 lb rule.

Hello Melody, good to see you today.  I expect you will get snow soon enough.

Pat, I was sorry to read about your problems.  I hope you are better soon.  The heating pad sounds good.

Hello Janet, Chris and Margit, Judy B., Sue, and Al.

Rom 8:1-3
1   Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
2   because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
3   For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man,
(NIV)

Papa John

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Janet the pictures are beautiful.  Really special.

This has been a quiet night.  The girls were to bed early and I am following very soon.

The puppies are really getting big.  They are fat little gals.  Janet you asked about Dana.  Dana is a doberman and is about 15 months old.  She is a comedian and a real companion.  We have a friend who works with John and if he needs a bed overnight then he stays here.  (He is moving house in March.)  He was working on the electric wiring on a trailer John has built.  Dana ran by him and nipped at his jogging pants and kept running with the pants in her mouth.   We have had a lot of fun with the girl.  Our friend calls her Souphound.  It seems to have stuck too.

QuoteRom 8:1
1   Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
Papa John I love those words.  No condemnation....In Christ.  How freeing that is!

There is a young lady I am working with.  She has continually been taking the blame for everything that happens in her world.  I have prayed about this abd it was revealed that the problem is a deep rooted sin that she iis refusing to deal with.  Please be praying for my friend.  It will be rough going till she deals with the real issue.

The weather has been mild here.  A little foggy, but the temp has been +1*C.  Good packing snow for snowballs.  I think every child (of all ages) enjoys a good snowball fight!

Well I am off to bed.  Big day tomorrow.

Night all

Such nice posts to read!
