Morning Devotional...

Personal Life:
God Is in That!

Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.
--Acts 4:29-30

Some are concerned because there are not more miracles and wonders wrought in our midst through faith.  In our day, everything is commercialized. And I must say that I do not believe in commercialized miracles.

"Miracles, Incorporated"--you can have it!

"Healing, Incorporated"--you can have that, too! And the same with
"Evangelism, Incorporated" and "Without a Vision the People Perish,
Incorporated." I have my doubts about signs and wonders that have to be organized, that demand a letterhead and a president and a big
trailer with lights and cameras. God is not in that!

But the person of faith who can go alone into the wilderness and get
on his or her knees and command heaven--God is in that. The preacher who will dare to stand and let his preaching cost him something--God is in that. The Christian who is willing to put herself in a place where she must get the answer from God and God alone--the Lord is in that!
Dr. Tozer in Faith Beyond Reason, 33-34.

"Lord, forgive me for so often trying to box up my plans and organize Your work so it can all be controlled and explained. Take over, Lord, and do Your thing, not mine, today. Amen."

Nearer, Still Nearer

My soul followeth hard after thee:
thy right hand upholdeth me.
Psalm 63:8

Author:  Lelia N. Morris, 1862-1929
Musician:  Lelia N. Morris, 1862-1929

Nearer, still nearer, close to Thy heart,
Draw me, my Savior—so precious Thou art!
Fold me, oh, fold me close to Thy breast.
Shelter me safe in that "Haven of Rest";
Shelter me safe in that "Haven of Rest."

Nearer, still nearer, nothing I bring,
Naught as an offr'ing to Jesus, my King;
Only my sinful, now contrite heart.
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart.
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart.

Nearer, still nearer, Lord, to be Thine!
Sin, with its follies, I gladly resign,
All of its pleasures, pomp and its pride,
Give me but Jesus, my Lord, crucified.
Give me but Jesus, my Lord, crucified.

Nearer, still nearer, while life shall last.
Till safe in glory my anchor is cast;
Through endless ages ever to be
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee;
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee!

It is so-o-o nice to see you Suzanne!  Please don't be a stranger.

As we go through our day today, let's remember those among us that are hurting.  Let's remember especially our dear sister, Janet and her family as they care for Beth and let's remember Babycakes as her family are dealing with her sister's serious illness.

Many might not have even said anything to us about their private hurts and cares and concerns.  Let's pray for all of our folks today.

God bless you all.

Thanks for the good word.  Sensationalism--God doesn't need us to artificially sensitize His work.  Actually He doesn't need anything from us.

I took a risk in posting a picture of some idols in a cemetery, just a short walk from us.  My point is to illustrate the futility of man's attempts to please or "help" God.  Indeed, everytime I see these stone idols with cute little red garments here, I am reminded of Acts 17:24-25.

"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.  And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else."

Thanks, so much, for today's devotional thoughts Pat!  and thank you for the reminder to pray for each other -- every day -- because God knows what each one is enduring and the need for support and prayer whether the need is made known to us or not .... He knows!

Janet, thank you for checking in with the update on Beth and the proposed care.  I believe God has arranged this time for you to have a reprieve so you can rest and leave the care and treatment to the professionals.  Let God be God and take this time to be alone with Him and receive from Him what He has for you.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Adri

It's about 10 past 2 in the afternoon and the sun is shining quite warm in Port Elizabeth today, wich I'm very thankful for as it was sent by God.

I need to ask you all to pray for a friend of mine, Jennifer, I hope you don't mind...She was in a car accident round about the 15th of Jan and her spine was injured...Thank God she is not paralyzed.  I only heard about this today.  Her husband and kids were in the car with her and even though the car had been written of they're all without any serious injuries.  On top of this she has to go for tests on 31 Jan as she might have cancer of the uterus.  The doctor told her that he is almost 100% sure that this is the case, but she has to go for the tests to be certain.  I know that nothing is impossible for God.  Her husband wants to get a divorce and this is not what God wants I know this as divorce is not condoned by God.  So you see that is why I've decided to ask you all to join me in this prayer fight against the evil that is trying to take away from her.

Thanks
When life beats you down...ask God to beat it right back.

Samantha

Adri, will be praying for your friend and her family.

According to the news, the conservative party won in Canada, so congratulations!

Thank you Pat for the devotion and remembering me, I really need the strength.

My, but I am busy praying for all my family on CP.  When a family member hurts, I hurt.  I love it that I can pray for them to our Father in Heaven.

I am off with Ivalou to her church's SAMS group.  I forget what it means now but elderly people...older than me even!  I love each of them and they are so much fun.

Hi everyone.  Certainly a lot of prayer needs expressed among our folks here on CP.

Janet, so glad that they are letting Beth remain where she will have skilled care.  I hope that during this time some of the doctors or social workers will talk with her and help her understand the gravity of her situation in trying to live alone and the care load it puts upon you and Darrel.  Often people close to us cannot get through due to our emotional ties but a minister, doctor, or social worker can help the person more clearly focus on the true situation.  I am sure everyone wants only what is best for Beth.

Yesterday we got a really neat device that raises the head of the bed up to 26 degrees.  It inflates and deflates with a control and there is a pump that pumps it up in about 1 minute.  The motor makes a little noise but it doesn't last very long.  We got it from Penny's and it cost $100, certainly much less than an adjustable bed.  I slept with it raised a bit last night and got a good night's sleep.

Pat, thanks for the devotional today.

Papa John

Pat, thank you for the good devotional today.  I have prayed for those mentioned here.  Seems like I don't get on line as much as I would like.

Kevin, good to see you here.  Welcome to you from far away in Japan.  We spent five years serving the Lord in Papua New Guinea and on one occasion we stopped over in Tokyo for a few days.  I think it rained the whole time.

Janet, I was so sorry to read about Beth's accident and I have prayed for you and for her.  God bless you  both.

Exod 20:4-6
4   "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
5   You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
6   but showing love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.  (NIV)

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Good Afternoon

Pat thanks for the devotional and the time you spend here every day.

Yes I have been away with both Mel & myself having the flu and a computer that has had many little problems, it is all time consuming but it has caused  me to realize that I have other work in the house that must be done, at present I am going through old Ann Landers clippings most will be destroyed but a few of the others I will keep.

As I do my chores I will be keeping you folk in my prayers.

But Martha was distracted with much serving. Luke
10:40

Her fault was not that she served: The condition of a servant is
commendable in the Christian. "I serve" should be the motto of all the
princes of the royal family of heaven. Nor was it her fault that she
had "much serving." We cannot do too much. Let us do all that we
possibly can; let head and heart and hands be engaged in the Master's
service. It was no fault of hers that she was busy preparing a feast
for the Master. Happy Martha, to have an opportunity of entertaining
so blessed a guest; and happy, too, to have the spirit to throw her
whole soul so heartily into the engagement. Her fault was that she
grew "distracted with much serving," so that she forgot Him and only
remembered the service.

My face is  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ today!  Pat, I'm SO SO sorry I forgot to do the NEM last night.  :(  I guess my stress level was about to the max, and I just spaced it out.  I remembered it early this morning, just before I got out of bed, and checked quickly to see if you had covered for me, and you had.  Thank you.

I had to take Beth some things early this morning, then had a busy day, visiting her again this afternoon.  Beth just called me to say she had gotten "a whole bunch of goodies!"  She got flowers from the church, flowers from two individuals in the church, balloons and a dog from another church family; balloons and candy from another.......and RED ROSES from John.  So she was happy.  :)

Beth is feeling better today.  They took her to the whirlpool and worked on her feet some, and put one of those egg crate things on her bed, which helps her back not to hurt so much.  All in all, things are looking up.  I know I feel a lot less stressed!  ^-^

I need to go, talk more tomorrow, and thanks so much for all the lovely comments, and especially for your prayers.

Janet There is no reason to be sad about missing the morning post.  You had more important things to concern yourself with,  I know I can say for Pat "No problem"

"It is better to be mute than to murmur."
~Thomas Brooks~

I like that quote.  So many people are murmerers and they don't see what it does to others.

I have had a long day today. I was up late listening to the election coverage.  John is being given a switch so he won't be home again this weekend.  The joys of the transportation industry.  We miss him.

Janet I am continuing to pray.  May you get rest while you can.   The other prayer requests, I am rem, embering too, just forgetting names.

I have to go will be back later.

Pat

Janet, with what you went throught, the last thing you needed to think about was the NEM.  No problem (as Judy has already said).

So glad to read that they are looking after her in there.

Ruth I see you said hello when I was on line earlier.  I have no sound and as a result I don't hear the shout box.  SO hello and I am sorry to hear you have not been well.

This is a quiet evening.  MElaura hasn't been sleeping well so I hope she does better tonight.  She is into exams, and appears to be doing much better than last year.

Well 10:24 I think I will turn in and get some needed rest.

Janet I will continue to pray.

Night all  and God Bless.

Pat

Hi Judy...

We don't have sound in the Shoutbox so you just have to take the odd glance over there.  It's kind of nice to get an "instant" "Hi there!"--especially if the folks are still on the site.

Talk soon,

Pat
