JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Personal Life:
The Habit of Holy Thought

Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
--2 Corinthians 10:5

What we think about when we are free to think about what we will--
that is what we are or will soon become....

Anyone who wishes to check on his true spiritual condition may do so by noting what his voluntary thoughts have been over the last hours or days. What has he thought about when free to think of what he pleased? Toward what has his inner heart turned when it was free to turn where it would? When the bird of thought was let go did it fly out like the raven to settle upon floating carcasses or did it like the dove circle and return again to the ark of God? Such a test is easy to run, and if we are honest with ourselves we can discover not only what we are but what we are going to become. We'll soon be the sum of our voluntary thoughts....

The best way to control our thoughts is to offer the mind to God in complete surrender. The Holy Spirit will accept it and take control of it immediately. Then it will be relatively easy to think on spiritual things, especially if we train our thought by long periods of daily prayer. Long practice in the art of mental prayer (that is, talking to God inwardly as we work or travel) will help to form the habit of holy thought.
Dr. Tozer in Born After Midnight, 44,46-47.

"Oh, Lord, You know the constant struggle so many of us have with our thought life. You know how often our thoughts do indeed settle on rotten carcasses. Take control of my thoughts today, and move me along in the development of the habit of holy thought. Amen."

Take Time to Be Holy
(Click to hear music)

Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy:
for I am the LORD your God.
Leviticus 20:7

Author:  William D. Longstaff, 1822-1894
Musician:  George C. Stebbins, 1846-1945

Take time to be holy,
Speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always,
And feed on His Word.
Make friends of God's children;
Help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing
His blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy,
The world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret
With Jesus alone;
By looking to Jesus,
Like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct
His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy,
Let Him be thy Guide,
And run not before Him,
Whatever betide;
In joy or in sorrow,
Still follow thy Lord,
And, looking to Jesus,
Still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy,
Be calm in thy soul;
Each thought and each motive
Beneath His control;
Thus led by His Spirit
To fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted
For service above.

Pat, thank you for the devotional and hymn.  The hymn is a favorite of mine.

QuoteWhat we think about when we are free to think about what we will--
that is what we are or will soon become....

What a powerful statement.  Dr. Tozer's ministry, his love for the Lord, keeps blessing so many.   I am one.

Pat,  I always like seeing your pictures.  Just don't take a tumble to get them.  :)

Etta Sue

Nita ~ Sudoku is a number game.  You can check it out here http://www.sudoku.com/ My newspaper has the game daily and Ivalou gives me magazines with them in it.  Gets your mind going!

Al ~ My thinking is that Satan is involved in a lot more tragedies than God.  God intervenes to have them not be so terrible.

Ruth Ann ~ And won't that season when we come face to face with Jesus be glorious?  I am looking/working forward to that time.

Liz ~ So the book that James Frey wrote is not true?  I saw him on Oprah and also the day she announced that the book was on her Book List when his mother was in the audience.  I thought about buying it but decided that I didn't need all that negative influence in my brain.

Pat ~ Are you/will you post the pictures of Geordie at Elora Gorge?

Janet ~ Ivalou and I are going out for the day.  First Chinese, then to see 'Cheaper by the Dozen2' and then 'End of the Spear'.  The last came to Noblesville theater this past week.  I am anxious to see it.  Thanks for sending me the email about it.  How is Beth today?  And you?

My cleaning didn't do me in.  I know I will have to do it again before Euchere Club but not the deep cleaning in the bedroom.  It do look nice though and feels good that it is done!!   ::)

Thanks for this devotional today Pat-this was the very scripture I had to give to a new convert who was struggling yesterday in this area.
Isn't God awesome; to give this devotional today brings confirmation.
     We had some snow overnight-and my husband is happy today finally enough snow to go on his skidoo.
I'll just sit home and look at the snow through the window :lol:
praying all will be blessed today

Hi everyone but a sunny but chilly Georiga.  We had a good turnout for our men's coffee at the local senior center and we used our new coffee pots that each brew 12 cups.  Making two pots worth was sufficient and it was ready in about 10 minutes rather than the 45-50 minutes the big pot took.  We also didn't waste any of the coffee and it was easy to clean up.  The city paid for the two new coffeemakers out of the funds we collect each month.

I came home and walked for 10 minutes on my new treadmill.  It is great to have it so handy and I can take it in shorter walks.  Taking the nitro when I get on it seems to keep the pain at bay for most of the walking time.

Pat, thanks for the devotional today and the hymns you have posted.

Etta Sue, I tried working the Sudoku puzzles but decided it wasn't my type of game.  However, I see it has really become quite popular and noticed a bunch of Sudoku puzzle books on the magazine rack at the grocery store.

Welcome to our new members.

Liz, last night on Larry King they were talking about what happened to James Frey yesterday.  I don't intend to read the book.

Pat, are you back to driving your car?  Glad you were able to get out and take some photos yesterday.

Ruth Ann, sorry to read that you are going through some heartache at the moment.  It seems these things happen in families and sometimes pretty often.

Good to see all the posting.

Pat

Larry, not really.  I had to deliver some Avon to a lady yesterday up in Elora and since it's mostly highway and not much gear changing, I managed.  But driving around the city is not good with many traffic lights and stop signs.

But it will get better, I'm sure. ;)

Pat, I love the devotional for today.  My dear pastor (who passed away at a young age) used to tell us all the time, "You have to THINK about what you're THINKING about!"  I find this so true.  When you meet someone who is constantly negative, you soon find out they dwell on negative things constantly.  And the reverse is true as well.  We tend to get what we think about.  "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."

Immigration......what a huge problem it has become.  I'm sure you have all seen the coverage of the huge tunnel under the border between the US and Mexico.  Over two TONS of marijuana were inside the tunnel.  That is one problem I want our government to crack down on, and NOW.

Pat, glad you were able to get out for a while at least.  I was glad Larry asked you the question, as I have been wondering too how you are doing.  (((hugs)))

Liz, I understand your frustration about all the attacks on your newly elected head of government.  We face the same here in the states EVERY DAY.  >:( :( :(

Etta Sue, I haven't tried to work any of those strange puzzles, they look very confusing to me, and anyway, where would I find the time?  Sigh........

I need to go to the hospital and visit Beth.  She wants her walker, and that's a good sign.  Hope she can use it!  :)

Ruth Ann, I'm still praying for you, dear heart.

See y'all later!

Etta Sue - thank you for expressing you thought so clearly!  I'd just like to add a couple of things (mostly thought of by my wife when she read your post).  Remember Job?  See Job 1:1-12.  Satan did indeed have everything to do with the tragedies that happened in Job's life (and they were awful tragedies indeed!), but he could go only as far as God allowed him to go, and after he was finished, the overall result was that Job was blessed!  Seems impossible to us, but not to God.  See Job42:1-15.  That's the way it always is with God.  Satan does terrible things, but God hasn't gotten off His throne - His sovereign rule continues.  And Satan is ALWAYS frustrated in the end.

Marilyn

Well Versal  and I have decided that if she wants someone in the mornings and to handle her wheel chair  then she need to start looking for someone else. I told her it was OK with me that it would give me the opportunity to find a couple of one day per week private pay jobs or a prat time job out of the caregiving field.

I had a call on my answering machine the other day offering me an interview for a job at one of those check cashing places, but I didn't return the call. I think those places are dangerous places to work.

Janet that is  encouraging news about Beth, I am continuing in prayer for her daily.

Pat I will go check out your gallery.

Time for me to start my day, I am ready for work had my breakfast so I will be back later.

Another wet day here on the island.  I plan to clean house, finish painting a picture of a bird, go shopping with Wendy and do my laundry.  Hard to get the machine, as Wendy is constantly washing clothes....which I iron, as she can not do things like that now!

I mentioned that book in order to show how people tend to follow the lead of folks like Opra, etc.  Personally am not a fan and do not read the books on her list.  Did see a copy of the book and thought it was pure filth.  Of course, that is what a large part of the world wants today :(

Etta Sue, that puzzle makes me dizzy!

Marilyn, that was a real good article.  There is so much comfort from a pet.  I remember looking after Amanda and she would come home from school, drop her backpack and grab the cat for a hug!  Now she comes from work and does the same thing..... ;)

Time to go.  Have a nice day everyone :)

God Bless,

Liz

The Christian life isn't difficult--it is impossible. If we
don't know that, we will try to do things ourselves. Faith is
not necessary when we think we can do it ourselves. Faith comes
along when we realize that we cannot do it on our own.

It's a beautiful day in our neighborhood!  :)  NO WIND!!  I dislike the wind a lot.  And it must be around 65 degrees, too.  :)

Beth is feeling good today.  I sneaked Mieka in under my jacket to visit her, and the physical therapist was just finishing with her bandages.

We are meeting another couple from church tonight at our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner.  I have been eating vegetable soup for the past three days.....but it's good!  I'm ready for Mexican food, though. ;)

Al, there is something in the story of Job (which I have just read again) that has always troubled me.  Well several things do, but..........Even though Job had seven more sons and three more daughters, how could that make up for those he lost?  In my opinion, our loved ones are not replacable.  I know God is in control, but there are still many things I put in the back of my mind to ask Him about when I get HOME.  But, really, I won't need to ask then, will I?  Because we will know the answers.

Thanks for continuing to pray for Beth, Marilyn.  I know it's only by prayer that she is not in pain any more from the burns.  She still has some huge blisters!

I got a lot done today, so I'm feeling less pressured.  While I was in town to see Beth, my wonderful, loving husband vacuumed the floors for me!  Gotta love a man like that!! :D

See you another time!

Papa John

This morning at Lipscomb during our second presentation Cornelia suddenly felt ill and said call 911 then sat down and and then collapsed. We got her from the chair to the floor. The anbulance got there right away. They took her directly to the Cath Lab. She had a massive heart attack. They removed a blood clot and put in two stents. She will be in Intensive Care tonight and if things go well maybe in three or four days will be able to come home. The doctor explained to me that there was a lot of heart damage but she could get well but would have to really take it easy.  I know you will pray for her.  Thank you for your prayers.

I'll try to drop back in tomorrow for a report.

Papa John

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Papa John - I do indeed pray our Lord for Cornelia, and also for you, that He would comfort you both and make you know His presence and love.  I pray for her healing.

Janet - I cannot say more than you already said.  I couldn't agree more that our children are, ultimately, irreplaceable.  However, just the fact that God blessed Job more in his later days than at the first could tell us that He also will eventually reveal some wonderful thing for those that were lost.  But, yes, we'll have to wait for the fullest answer.  At least, though, it gives us a hint that God fully KNOWS his loss, and that tells me that He'll eventually take complete care of it.  Anyway, we can at least see that God sees much more than we do, that He rules even over Satan, and that all is not lost when it seems lost.

So - the final answer, I guess, is future glory - we don't get the complete picture here in this life.

Nita

Papa John, I was saddened to hear of Cornelia's heart attack.  I'm praying with all of your family here.  We love you both.

Marilyn, thank you for the link to All Creatures Here Below.  That's a wonderful devotional.  I've saved it, and also printed it out for my daughter, Kim, who loves my boys as much as I do.  We talk almost every day about how much they teach of of God's love.

My grandaughter, Angel, was going through a really hard time.  She moved in with her dad and he said she could have a kitty.  She knew just what she wanted, the color, the age, etc.  It all changed when I called our local CARE lady, and she met us with a few cats.  This one cat, 6 months old, chose Angel.  He was just what Angel needed.  He loved her right from the beginning, and snuggled up to her as soon as he was removed from the crate.  All of her ideas of what she wanted disappeared in what transpired between her and that little creature.  I saw a tenderness in her that I hadn't seen in a long time.  She can be herself with "Leo".  They are quite the pair now.

We're supposed to have lots of rain and high winds tonight.  I pray the dike was built up enough to protect the homes and businesses that were flooded with the last high tide and rains.  There is much concern.  I've seen people sandbagging along their property.  As usual in these cases, there is much anger at the slowness of government in getting things done.

We are so blessed to know that OUR Government, and Our King is always in perfect time.  The people of the Kingdom of God have no fear that we will be forgotten or help from our Lord come too late.   As you said, Al, we don't get the complete picture here, but by Faith we know that all is well. :)  And as Janet said, we will one day know without asking, for we will know as we are known.  And we KNOW how well we are known by the God of Love, our Father.  Praise Him who is above all.       It's so good to know we can trust Him and belong to Him........forever and forever and forever. :)       Night all.  Nita
