Morning Devotional...

Personal Life:
Choices

I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me. I cling to Your testimonies; O Lord, do not put me to shame!
--Psalm 119:30-31

The important thing about a man is not where he goes when he is compelled to go, but where he goes when he is free to go where he will....

A man is absent from church Sunday morning. Where is he? If he is in a hospital having his appendix removed his absence tells us nothing about him except that he is ill; but if he is out on the golf course, that tells us a lot. To go to the hospital is compulsory; to go to the golf course, voluntary. The man is free to choose and he chooses to play instead of to pray. His choice reveals what kind of man he is. Choices always do....

I think it might be well for us to check our spiritual condition occasionally by the simple test of compatibility. When we are free to go, where do we go? In what company do we feel most at home?

Where do our thoughts turn when they are free to turn where they will? When the pressure of work or business or school has temporarily lifted and we are able to think of what we will instead of what we must, what do we think of then?

The answer to these questions may tell us more about ourselves than we can comfortably accept. But we had better face up to things. We haven't too much time at the most.
Dr. Tozer in Man: The Dwelling Place of God, 158-161.

"Lord, as a pastor or teacher I can't choose to play golf on Sunday morning, but I can choose a lot of other things that are just as revealing of my inner character. Help me to make choices today that are pleasing to You. Amen."

Papa John and Janet I am praying as well.  May you and your families feel the presence of the Lord tonight and over the balance of the weekend.

Thank you for the devotionals.  I realise they take a lot of time and I thank you for the time and effort you put into this web site.

This has been a long day.  Had company and got rid of some curtain material that I didn't need.  Less for me to store.

I am off to  bed.

God bless all of you  and have a blessed sunday.

karmat

Praying for those of you that need prayer (hehe, that could probably be any one of us at any one time).  Sorry we've been scarce the past few days.  There just seems to be a lot going on these days.  I'll try to be in more next week.

 TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT   --   http://www.heartlight.org/

                                                      January 29, 2006
VERSE:
And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If
any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and
servant of all.
    -- Mark 9:35
       http://www.searchgodsword.org/desk/?query=Mark+9:35&translation=kjv

THOUGHT:
Last? Nobody likes to be last. We have a hard enough time
settling for second place, much less last place. Jesus reverses the
rank. The person who is most important to him is not the person
seeking the status and notoriety. The most important person is like
Jesus himself: willing to give up rank and status and importance to
serve. For Jesus, last means first in service and first in the eyes
of God.

PRAYER:
Magnificent God my Savior, you have made the world wonderful for
me and have given your Son to redeem me. How can I ever thank you
or repay you for your grace and kindness? Help me serve others with
grace and kindness. Give me eyes to see people as you do; not
judging by mere appearances, but valuing, serving, and treating
people as Jesus does. I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus, the one
who washed his disciples' feet. Amen.

Chris thank you for the link to Songs of Praise I now have it in My Favorites.

Well tonight is the night that I go to the Sleep Lab, what a relief it will be to get this non sleep problem attended to. Many have emailed me to tell me the success stories of using the Cpap Machine and the new Cpap Pro machine. They also let me know that Medicare and insurance covers the cost of both.

My only concern about being gone overnight is for Happy and Bebe, they have never been left alone at night before. I am sure they will be alright but  do know they will be anxious and will be watching out the window for me.

Thank you Pat and Chris for the devotionals this morning

Be back Later I am still in my pajamas, had  a half cup of coffee. (It is my turn to be up front near the altar praying during the service) So don't want to drink too much coffee.

Another long day.  The church services were great and the church was crowded.  I left church the earliest I have left since Jerry had his stroke...well, way before that.  But I asked the man that helps me do the duping if he could stay after the second service.  So I left right after the second service and filled the car up with gas.  Then I went to Tony and Charlene's for Tony's birthday lunch with them and her family.  Tony will be 45 tomorrow!!!

After that I stopped at an elderly ladies house to show her how to use her new VCR.  She got a new one for Christmas and she didn't know how to use this one...she is almost blind.

Then home and catching up with emails and the internet!  My prayers are still for Cornelia, Beth and anyone else that is hurting or ill.  God Bless You All.

Janet

Papa John, thank you for the update on Cornelia.  Prayers continue for both of you dear ones.

We attended Sunday school and church; came home and ate some soup.  Then I went to the hospital to visit Beth.

OH!!  GOOD NEWS!!   ;D :)  My camera is working again!!!  Praise the Lord!  Last night, I read the manual, did all the diagnostic tests, and it passed them all.  Then I put the rechargeable batteries back in, and it worked!!  I am thinking it aay have been an aberrant electrical current in Mexico that caused the problem, and that leaving it set without the batteries for a couple of weeks cleared it up.  Anyhow, I am one happy camper because of having it back!!

I thought of that because I took it to the hospital a while ago and took a couple pictures of Beth with her flowers, balloons, etc.  She wanted me to take one of her roses from John to send to him.

We are having a little fund-raiser after church tonight to help with the ladies' retreat coming up in March.  Not what I should be eating (hot dogs and sloppy joes) but maybe I can find something that's not to bad for the Daniel fast I'm doing.

I'm off to post a couple pics of Beth in the gallery.

Hi, Etta Sue!  I see you posted as I was typing, so I will go read your post now.

Oh, Janet, I'm so happy about your camera.  I'd sure be lost if mine broke.

I've been to see your photos and I hope that everyone goes and sees our Beth!  So nice to see her smiling!

We had a real good message on prayer.  Sunday School we are  breaking down all the scriptures on healing really digging deep into them.

Gilbert, Sarah and the Kids came by right after church with some food and we ate. I had already had my lunch so I munched on veggie chips and watermelon. The kids  played on my mini trampoline (Rebounder) They just left  about 45 minutes ago.

I have all the things ready that I need to take with me to the sleep lab and will leave here about 6:30

Janet I will go look at your pics now.

See you all tomorrow sometime.

Thanks for the devotional, Pat.  Also to Chris!

Terrible wind and rain again today.  Some 30,000 folks in Victoria area were without power the other day.  So far, we have been lucky....not certain if it will last.  The high winds caused some strange things to happen the other day tho'.  I woke up around 1 A.M. to a strange sound that was like a water pipe had burst outside.  Got up and looked all around the windows, even went upstairs where all were asleep....could not find anything. Came down and found the noise was coming from my alarm clock.  Never did that before or since.  Then the doorbell rang after I was asleep...Mounties had a 911 call from our house.  Seems they had three calls from the area..only one was real.  Power was causing the problem on the phone lines.  They knew Ralph, so it was sort of a big joke.  Do wonder what the neighbors thought tho' :yakyakyak:

Misty has been inside most of the day. I brought the neighbors cat in to feed and dry off as he was soaked.  Had to finally put him back out again...hope Billy Bob went home or back under the covered swing in our yard.  Ah, the life of a Grandma!

Read this little blub and thought it might be of interest.  I would be lost without Christian Sites to visit, since can't get to church.  Sometimes I feel so terribly lonely for the company of church and being part of something 'real'.  Anyway, we are meant to do our best where God has placed us....so try!

                                           JOYFUL THINGS

At times I am so discouraged with problems of the day
I fail to see the joyful things that are along the way.

When troubles overwhelms me, it's then my nerves may fray.
That's when I need to take the time to simply sit and pray.

Reflecting on God's many gifts, it makes me aware...
Of all the joy in little thing around me everywhere!

I must try to remember...though problems come my way,
Not to miss the joyful things and the beauty of the day.

Things like Misty, a rescued cat.  Once scared and shy and ill!

Busy morning at church today.  On the last Sunday of the month the children in the Sunday School take over the duties of greeting and taking the offering.  That's always a delight.  The pastor had a special message for all the nursery children - demonstrated the premise of tithing using chocolate kisses.  I'm not sure it made much impression on the little ones (other than that they each got a piece of chocolate), but it paved the way for his sermon which, of course, was on the importance of tithing.  I find it amazing - 9/10 of income goes soooo much further than the full 100%!!!  Then this year's Elders and Deacons were installed (My umteenth time).

Following the service and coffee time was a congregational meeting covering the presentation of the 2006 budget and the annual reports from all the committees, and voting on the pastor's salary.  He announced he'll be taking a 3 month sabatical this year and will give back 1/2 of his salary during that time to cover the cost of cover preachers.

I was hoping there's be some recent news from Papa John, so I'll try to stick around a while to see if he comes in later.

Almost forgot to say, too, how glad I am to hear that Beth is coming along so well.  It's wonderful how she bounces back emotionally from each new trial.

Papa John

Cornelia remains in Critical Care tonight.  She continued to have arrhythmia today.  They let me sit with her all day.  We are home now and tired but we need a little rest and will go back in the morning.  They said they may install a pace maker.  Thank you again for your prayers and your good wishes for Cornelia.

This has been a long day.  The weather has ben terrible.  Snow, rain freezing raon and blowing.  Cccccold.  Drill practise was cancelled because of the weather.

The message was awesone today.  All about trust and the conditions that go with it.  Surrender,  Faith and Obedience.  So often we sing Trust and Obey.  Do the words sink in?  Melaura commented that it was an interesting message.  She was right.  After church we went to a dear friend's home, and the life experience lessons continued for Melaura.  I just say God bless this friend, for her honesty and guidance.

I am sorry to hear Papa John that Cornelia's health is still rocky.  I will continue praying.

Janet I am glad your camera is working.  I am continuing to pray for Beth.

Everyone else I have not read all the posts carefully, I will do that tomorrow.

Night all and God bless each of you
