"Never did a believer in Jesus die or drown in his voyage to heaven."
~Robert Traill~

Morning Devotional...

Personal Life:
A Friend of God

And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the
friend of God.

--James 2:23

After all, what higher privilege and experience is granted to mankind on earth than to be admitted into the circle of the friends of God?...

It is well for us to remember that Divine-human friendship originated with God. Had God not first said "You are My friends," it would be inexcusably brash for any man to say, "I am a friend of God." But since God claims us for His friends, it is an act of unbelief to deny the offer of such a relationship....

The spiritual giants of old were those who at some time became acutely conscious of the presence of God. They maintained that consciousness for the rest of their lives....

The essential point is this: These were men who met and experienced God! How otherwise can the saints and prophets be explained? How otherwise can we account for the amazing power for good they have exercised over countless generations?

Is it not that indeed they had become friends of God? Is it not that they walked in conscious communion with the real Presence and addressed their prayers to God with the artless conviction that they were truly addressing Someone actually there?
Men Who Met God, 13-14.

"Compared with those saints of old, Father, I seem to know so little of that conscious communion with Your real Presence! I pray that throughout this year I might catch a glimpse of what that means, and might increasingly move into the intimate joy of experiencing You as a personal Friend. Amen."

How wonderful is this?

"Tell all I'll see them on the other side,
It wasn't bad.
I just went to sleep.
I love you
Jr."

This,  read the note found with the body of 51-year-old mine foreman Martin Toler Jr.

Right to the moment of death, he believed in his Master.

It was so good to hear the testimony on the television this evening by one of the family members of Martin Toler Jr., nephew Randy Toler, who said that on this past Sunday night, Martin quoted his "life scripture" in the service:

Colossians 3:2
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Oh, may we all learn from this tragic happening and from the death of this believer that we must live for our Saviour.

Do we?

Indeed, I feel so badly for the families of those miners.  That's a terrible tragedy.

I've also heard one of those legends / rumors that the older men gave their oxygen to the youngest man, who is the lone survivor.  IF that's true, it's just another example of the amazing strength of the human heart when touched by God.

I sincerely dread the ugly atmosphere that is certain to prevail as all the "lawsuit" talk persists through the next weeks.  No lawsuit will bring those men back, but I won't get on my soapbox right now :)

I hope all of you have a great day!  Jesus loves YOU, and He wants YOU to have a victorious day.  Reach out and accept it.

Good Morning. Good Devotional this morning Pat. Thank you for the article from CNN on the mine blast.

Nards I appreciate your sentiments on the lawsuit situation, I would most likely agree with whatever you had to say on the subject if you were to get on your soapbox. I would call them frivolous lawsuits as just a beginning. I will follow your lad and stay off my soapbox too.

Today I am going to go into Eureka to either Michaels of Joann's fabrics and buy s larger crochet hook and some yarn to make a prayer shawl. I have a lot of yarn but not the color that I want and too little of every color.

I woke up about 1:30 with a terrible headache, got up took an Ibuprofen and a Tramadol pain pill then I woke up again at 4:am with  a terrible headache. I left the heater on last night so I think that may have been a factor with  the headaches. I usually turn it off at night but have been leaving it on at about 65*F.

Pat is Geordie 9 or 10 now?  I know that Happy is about a year younger than Geordie I think Happy is 8 now Bebe just turned 4.
Have you heard from Mieka lately?

Liz it is good to hear from you, I love your funny stories. I miss you when you don't post. The same goes for you Kathy

I hope to hear something from Al today, If I remember I will take another ride up to his place to check on them again. Maybe take them something to eat.

Karen how is Rolan doing?

What type of heater do you have?  If it's propane, natural gas, woodburning, oil furnace, or anything else with a flame, MAKE SURE you have a working Carbon Monoxide detector in your home.  If your heater running a lot causes headaches, it's possible - not guaranteed, just possible - that Carbon Monoxide is slightly lowering the amount of oxygen you breath during sleep, which may be causing your headache.  Just a thing to be careful about.  If it's electric heat, it may be the dry air.

http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/coftsht.html#CO%20Poisoning%20Symptoms

My concern is that carbon monoxide is terribly deadly and if you don't know the symptoms, you'll be dead before you understand there's a problem.  This really bothers me because it happened twice while you were sleeping, which is when a LOT of CO deaths happen.

I don't mean to scare you, but I just want you to be aware :)  We love ya, sis.

Hi everyone.  It is a beautiful and sunny day here in Geoeriga.  It is a bit cold but nothing to complain about.  We had a good turnout at the senior center for our Friday men's coffee.  We are still struggling with getting the timer set right so that the coffee will come on and be ready when we get there.

Marilyn, that severe headache after leaving your heat on all night sends up a flag concerning carbon monoxide.  Do you have a carbon monoxide detector in your place?  I am assuming you have gas heat and not electric.  Sure hope Al and Marbeth will soon have power.  (Edit:  I see Nards and I are thinking alike.)

Pat, a new companion for Geordie sounds like a good idea.

While the miscommunication concerning the miners is very sad and regretable, I sure don't understand what would serve as a basis for a lawsuit.  I am sure no one did that deliberately.

Nita, sure you are enjoying your time with your grandson.

Alma, sure hope your little doggie is doing better.

Jeanne, sure don't envy you those frozen pipes.  I remember when we lived in a mobile home and having to wrap the pipes with an electrical tape so that we could heat them.  When we lived in Alaska we had a oil plug heater so we could get the car started.  I never understand why so few people had garages other than the cost of wood.

We have been having Internet problems since before Christmas.  Yesterday they finally worked on it and we had no service for about 6 hours but hopeully they now have it repaired.  They called me this morning to say it was corrected.  It was an area-wide problem and not related to my connections.

Last evening I had no sound on my laptop again.  This had happened once before.  I tried System Restore to two different dates and several other things without results.  Finally after coming back from coffee this morning I decided perhaps I needed to reinstall the sound card drivers.  Sure enough that solved the problem and I will know what to do the next time.  Guess that is why they were able to fix the problem so quickly when I took it in under my warranty a few months ago.  Looks like this may be a recurring problem.

Hope this is a great day for everyone.

I would highly recommend everyone get a CO2 detecter.  To me, it is just as important as a smoke/fire detecter.  Also, if you suspect C02 is causing problems.  Call you dr., tell them and they can do a blood test.  BUT, you have to go straight to the dr because the C02 in your body dissipates very quickly once you get outside.

Now, before you think nards and I just know a lot about this, you probably should know that we got home the other night with dectector alarming.  So, we read a lot about it.  Still, a little nervous to go to sleep that night! ;)

It snowed here.

I think the kids are finally getting better.  There are some recent pictures of them on mine and nard's PAD blogs.  Which I would give the address for, if I could remember.  (Mine is bookmarked, so I never type it. ;))

Al has just left, he came to get his devotional for at to post on the correct day. They have power and cable but no phone yet. The phone company is still working on getting service restored.

Marbeth and I had coffee and cookies while he was typing and getting used to using my Windows he has a Mac as you all know.

Off to work now.

Yes, everyone should have a CO detector if they heat with anything with a flame.  The first winter I lived here, Jerry was under the house all day putting in new phone jacks for me.  But everytime I came into the utility room, it smelled like a dead mouse somewhere.  Jerry said he didn't notice anything.  Later after he was done with the crawl space, we both noticed a smell.  Jerry said it was gas.  I called my furnace man and left him a message.  About 8 that evening, I opened my basement door and thought that I was mistaken...I don't smell anything now.  I decided to call the furnace man back and cancel him coming out.  BUT before I could do that, the doorbell rang.  I opened the door and the furnace man pushed his way in, ran to the basement and yelled up....TURN OFF THE FURNACE NOW!!!!  All I could do was lower the thermostat!  He said that condensation from having the thermostat at 50° the winter before while mom was in the nursing home had caused rust and it fell down on the burners and caught afire.  He said that the furnace would have either exploded or the house would have caught on fire withing 15 minutes of him coming in the door.  Fire was shooting out of the furnace 2 feet when I looked down into the basement!!  Anyway, my house was filled with carbon monoxide.  He couldn't work on the hot furnace that night but got everything back to normal the next day.  The next day I bought a CO detector!!!  Scary!!!

So Marilyn....get a CO detector.  They aren't expensive but still no matter the cost...cheaper than your life taken.

My bottle gas man was just here but didn't fill up.  He was here a little over 3 weeks ago and filled but my little electric fireplace lets me use half the gas that I used to use!  Furnace just runs at night!!!

I did go out to Ace Hardware and buy a CO detector They were on sale too. I got one that you plug into the wall socket.

I was feeling kind of light headed at times this morning and I attributed that to taking the pain pills on an empty stomach. Then while I was out shopping with Versal my stomach started feeling a little bit on the queasy side. We stopped for a milkshake. I got an eggnog flavored one, it was so rich I had to only eat  half of it. This place called Arctic burgers makes them so thick you have to eat them with a spoon. Anyway I came home a laid down for an hour and now I feel better. While I was gone I left a window open in the house just in case it was CO in my house.

We went to The American Cancer Society thrift store and I bought a pair of ankle lace up boots. the have never been used and were $8.00, I went to Joann's and bought 4 skeins of yarn (dark purple heather)and a size N crochet hook for my prayer shawl. They yarn was on sale too for $3.49 each. regular price was $4.99 ea. So what was going to be $20. cost me $15 and change. I was a good shopping trip.

After my little nap I made Tuna/Macaroni salad for later.

That is my day so far.

These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters who had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place.
ATTORNEY: Are you sexually active?
WITNESS: No, I just lie there.

ATTORNEY: What is your date of birth?
WITNESS: July 18th.
ATTORNEY: What year?
WITNESS: Every year.

ATTORNEY: What gear were you in at the moment of the impact?
WITNESS: Gucci sweats and Reeboks.

ATTORNEY: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all?
WITNESS: Yes.
ATTORNEY: And in what ways does it affect your memory?
WITNESS: I forget.
ATTORNEY: You forget? Can you give us an example of something you forgot?

ATTORNEY: How old is your son, the one living with you?
WITNESS: Thirty-eight or thirty-five, I can't remember which.
ATTORNEY: How long has he lived with you?
WITNESS: Forty-five years.

ATTORNEY: What was the first thing your husband said to you that morning?
WITNESS: He said, "Where am I, Cathy?"
ATTORNEY: And why did that upset you?
WITNESS: My name is Susan.

ATTORNEY: Do you know if your daughter has ever been involved in voodoo?
WITNESS: We both do.
ATTORNEY: Voodoo?
WITNESS: We do.
ATTORNEY: You do?
WITNESS: Yes, voodoo.

ATTORNEY: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning?
WITNESS: Did you actually pass the bar exam?

ATTORNEY: The youngest son, the twenty-year-old, how old is he?
WITNESS: Uh, he's twenty-one.

ATTORNEY: Were you present when your picture was taken?
WITNESS: Would you repeat the question?

ATTORNEY: So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th?
WITNESS: Yes.
ATTORNEY: And what were you doing at that time?
WITNESS: Uh....

ATTORNEY: She had three children, right?
WITNESS: Yes.
ATTORNEY: How many were boys?
WITNESS: None.
ATTORNEY: Were there any girls?

ATTORNEY: How was your first marriage terminated?
WITNESS: By death.
ATTORNEY: And by whose death was it terminated?

ATTORNEY: Can you describe the individual?
WITNESS: He was about medium height and had a beard.
ATTORNEY: Was this a male or a female?

ATTORNEY: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney?
WITNESS: No, this is how I dress when I go to work.

ATTORNEY: Doctor, how many of your autopsies have you performed on dead people?
WITNESS: All my autopsies are performed on dead people.

ATTORNEY: ALL your responses MUST be oral, OK? What school did you go to?
WITNESS: Oral.

ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body?
WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m.
ATTORNEY: And Mr. Denton was dead at the time?
WITNESS: No, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy on him!

ATTORNEY: Are you qualified to give a urine sample?
WITNESS: Huh?

ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: So, then, it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
ATTORNEY: But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.

You Raise Me Up

Verse 1
When I am down and oh, my soul's so weary.
When troubles come and my heart burdened be.
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
until you come and sit a while with me.

Chorus
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains.
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders.
You raise me up to more than I can be.

There is no life, no life without its hunger.
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly.
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
sometimes I think I glimpse eternity.

Chorus
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains.
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders.
You raise me up to more than I can be.

Chris, that song is so incredible.  I think it raises me up whenever I hear it.  I remember the first time I heard it,  I had to stop everything.  Have you heard it by Selah?

Lots of rain last night and all day today.  It might have let up once or twice.  I will never complain about rain, but, still, I know it can be destructive. :) :(

Pat, today's devotional was so good.  Can you imagine?  We have the opportunity to be a friend of God, and He has said that precious position is available to us.  Wow!

Marilyn, so glad you got your CO detector.  Mine talks to me.  I talked back to her one time when I was cooking and she kept yelling at me, "fire, fire, fire".  I told her to hold on and no, there was not a fire.  I reset her as quickly as I could. lol  I remembered to put new batteries in after the first of the year.

Boy, Al's been gone a long time, eh?  Well, God is in control.  I guess he'll get phone service back when it's time. :)

JudyB

Good evening everyone.   This has been a difficult day for me.

To catch the glistening snow and ice on the trees I raced home and grabbed the camera.  In the 15 minutes I took the sun went down enough that the light was lost.   Better try again tomorrow.  I got some beautiful snow pictures though.  I will post some when They  are developed.  I am going to try to take some tomorrow, if the sky is clear enough.  I took one of athe moon too, I am hoping it turns out.

Well Groceries are bought and I (we) are tired.

Night all

Nita

Judy, I'm sorry this has been a difficult day for you.  I pray tomorrow will be better.

edit:  Judy!  I just looked up at the shoutbox, and see you said hi to me earlier today, but I forget to check it.  Sorry. :-\

Well we have running water, but it still needs to be boiled. This afternoon I put another pot of water on the stove and got busy at other things.  After a while I noticed that all the windows were completely covered with condensation and couldn't figure out why...  until I went in the kitchen and discovered there was only about an inch of water left in the pot.   :idiot:

Larry, it wasn't my pipes that froze but the trailer park's distribution lines.  Mine, under the trailer, are wrapped with heat tape that gets turned on November 1 every year and turned off in the spring - I forget what date, but only after I'm sure we won't get below freezing nights.  And when I know it's supposed to go down to 20 below or more I leave a little trickle running in the bathtub.

When I finally got all the mud out of the lines the cold water faucet in the bathroom sink wouldn't turn off.  It didn't just drip but was a steady drizzle.  So I closed the shut-off valve and tomorrow I'll have to go get some washers - and hope Gene didn't tighten all the connections so tight I can't budge them.

And that's the latest exciting news from here.

Oh, yes - on the subject of CO detectors.  We've had one for several years, and I try to remember to regularly push the test button to make sure it's working.  Sure does make a racket!   :)
