Morning Devotional...

Learning of Jesus

I want to share something with all who read.  It's been a very great blessing to me, and I think it will be to you as well.  It's actually a special method of Bible study that's particularly geared for studying the four Gospels.

    1. Begin with prayer that our Lord will reveal Himself to you.

    2. Read a
short section (about a full paragraph).

3. Ask yourself, "What did I read here about Jesus' character (i.e. was He harsh, loving, gentle, etc.)? Write down your answer in full.

4. How should what I learned about Jesus affect my life today?  Write down this answer in full also.

5. Tell Him what you saw (i.e. Lord, "You were so ..., so ...., and You're still like that today")  A good practice is to write this down also - as a letter to Jesus.
The God of Love My Shepherd Is
(Click to hear music)

The God of love my Shepherd is,
And He that doth me feed:
While He is mine and I am His,
What can I want or need?

He leads me to the tender grass,
Where I both feed and rest;
Then to the streams that gently pass,
In both I have the best.

Or if I stray, He doth convert,
And bring my mind in frame;
And all this not for my desert,
But for His holy Name.

Yea in death's shady, black abode
Well may I walk, not fear,
For Thou art with me, and Thy rod
To guide, Thy staff to bear

Surely Thy sweet and wondrous love
Shall measure all my days;
And as it never shall remove,
So neither shall my praise.
Amen.

I've been busy reading posts for the last day or so.  Now that I'm here and ready to do my own posting,  I'm too sleepy to think.

Brrrrrr.....some of you have some really cold, snowy weather.  I pray you will all stay safe and warm.  Here in Coos Bay, it's warmed up and is raining.   Of course, our cold weather is never as cold as your cold weather.....but we have had icy mornings.

I looked through my pictures tonight to see if I could find something for the new Reflections photo challenge.  I couldn't find anything I wanted to post.  PAT, your pictures are so pretty.  Beautiful colors and views.

I enjoyed all the devotionals.  AL, the way of reading the Bible that you posted is so powerful.   Thank you for reminding me of that.    That way is the most profitible for me.

I've had so many of those sleepless nights you were talking of.....but tonight, at this moment anyway, I feel really sleepy.  I'll say good night and get to bed.

Carrie

Good Morning Everyone
Just came in to read the devotional and Al I am definately going to do that when I am reading the bible.  I think that is an excellent way of truly reflecting on what you have read......Thank you!!
Have a great day everyone!!
Carrie

Ruth Ann Bice

Carrie and Sarah, I thoroughly enjoy your posts. And the graphics used here by so many of you are wonderful. Brrr - last night when I went to bed it was 65 degrees. It's now 45, and supposed to be about 30 when I get off work.

Now, let me see . . . where'd I stash those fur-lined shoestrings????? :-\

Y'all have a great day.

Ruth Ann

Good morning all!  I am about to be off for a doctor's appointment (I seem to have to go there alot :-)), then have students will be here, then I get my haircut.  woohoo.

TBear -- Those shots remind me of a couple of times in my college dorm room.  We would wake up with the windows iced over -- on the inside.  brrrrr.  At one point, our heater stopped working, and it was like 2 or 3 days before they could get to it.  Seeing how my roommate and I were both music majors, we just stayed at the music building as much as possible.  :-)  We we finally had to go back to the dorm, we would take a towel and sit on the bathroom floor (it was actually very clean) to study.

Supposed to be warm and rainy here, today (sounds kinda like Coos Bay -- though we are a whole country apart!).

So, I hope all ya'll have a marvelous day.  I'm off to the races!!~

Al Moak

Those are certainly nice photos of the windows, TBear.  It reminds me, though, of the winter I drove on ice clear through Ohio at about 20 MPH.  I'd rather look at your windows than be outside!

Marilyn

Good Morning Thank you Brother Al for this morning's devotiional and teaching. That is definitely something that I need to do.

TBear, have you tried to post the photos in the photos section yet? Or in the gallery? It would be fun if you had your own gallery there. Great graphic this morning.

Ruth Ann I am praying for you.

Working 2 jobs today as always on Thursdays. I love my jobs, they are so easy for me, I pray that I will be a blessing to both ladies today.

I hope that those who post graphics do not mind if I snag some of them. Let me know if it is ok. I have some of Etta Sue's on CD that I saved when I cleaned out my computer. I have made tubes out of some of them.

It is about 8:30 A.M. and many people stirring outside - I have been to the exercise center doing the treadmill, lifting weights, and a bicycle.  Now it is time for devotions and so nice to read many places in  here.

Janet:  Outstanding pictures of the people in Thailand.  The children are so sweet.

Judy:  Do hope that you are feeling better today.

It has been cool for Arizona standards but is alright today - a lot of rain and flooding this week and rain expected tomorrow.  We are so fortunate to be able to plan our driving around the downpours.

today is a quilting day and I am off.  We have been enjoying visiting and I have been cooking - good thing I like to cook because we gather so often and last night six here again in this little rental place.  Tonight, we are going out for a Chinese buffet.

Tom:  I just checked out your devotions on Sperling - Hope I spelled that correctly.  Very nice.  Thank you.

Good morning from frosty SW Kansas!  We had our swim, and the water was a wonderful 83 degrees, ahhhhhhhhhh.  ;D  Diane called to tell me she made it home safely from Kansas City, so that was another reason for praise.

Hey Beth!  So good to see your post this morning!  When does John have to go back to work?

Ruth Ann, it is so good to read your post from last night saying you were relaxed.  Glad you had a good evening with your brother and his wife.

Mike, I posted photos of the Karen tribe yesterday, if you want to go take a look.

Hello and blessings to Nita, Carrie, TBear, Marilyn, Ruth Ann, BETH  :-*, Al, Karma, Carol, and all of you who are later than me today!

Hi everyone.  A quick check-in today so you all know I am still kicking!   ;D  I am still feeling exhausted but otherwise fine.  I sort of have the feeling that I am not totally in my body, i.e., rather hazy.  I am not complaining since I am not in any pain like so many of our CP family are experiencing.

Today is Calvin Cove day.  It is tempting to call and tell the director I am not up to coming but won't do it as know they enjoy singing.

Al, thanks for the devotional thoughts.

Hope the ice is breaking up where it is causing such problems in the midwest.  We had a little rain this morning and it is overcast but not cold.  I do think it will be cooler today than yesterday.

A little smile for you...........

My teenage niece, Elizabeth, was nervous as she took the wheel for her first driving lesson. As she was pulling out of the parking lot, the instructor said, "Turn left here. And don't forget to let the people behind you know what you're doing." Elizabeth turned to the students sitting in the back seat and announced, "I'm going left."

Personal Life: The Compelling Call

For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity
is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!
--1 Corinthians 9:16

The true minister is one not by his own choice but by the sovereign
commission of God. From a study of the Scriptures one might conclude
that the man God calls seldom or never surrenders to the call
without considerable reluctance. The young man who rushes too
eagerly into the pulpit at first glance seems to be unusually
spiritual, but he may in fact only be revealing his lack of
understanding of the sacred nature of the ministry.

The old rule, "Don't preach if you can get out of it," if correctly
understood, is still a good one. The call of God comes with an
insistence that will not be denied and can scarcely by resisted.
Moses fought his call strenuously and lost to the compulsion of the
Spirit within him; and the same may be said of many others in the
Bible and since Bible times. Christian biography shows that many
who later became great Christian leaders at first tried earnestly
to avoid the burden of the ministry; but I cannot offhand recall
one single instance of a prophet's having applied for the job. The
true minister simply surrenders to the inward pressure and cries,
"Woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!"  God Tells the Man
Who Cares, 87-88.

"Lord, I'm here in this ministry not because I chose to be, but
because I've sensed your call on my life. Help me always to be
faithful to that call, in the power of Your Holy Spirit. Amen."

School is finally back in session in this area, so tomorrow Darrel and I are going to First Grade!  Abby's teacher asked us to come talk to all 5 first grade classes about scuba diving---about 90 kids.  That will be fun.  We take one set of equipment, and photos and stories of our diving.  Abby is so excited! ;D ;D

Wichita has had a terrible ice storm, and last night thousands were without electricity.  Still out tonight, plus so much damage to the trees.  They are guessing 6 million $ in damage. :(

Darrel says supper is ready---bye!

Well, it is better late than never!!!

Sonja ~ Love the new profile photo.  How is it that you are getting younger???  What is your answer?

Marilyn ~ You can snag any of my animations/graphics.  I would be honored to share and to even create animations if you have any ideas.

Hi to all of the rest of you.....too tired to mention all of your names... ;)

I won't go into detail but Symantec/NOrton and I are no longer doing business.  I finally found 7 files infected with a trojan virus but Norton AntiVirus didn't find it.  My ISP said to download Avast and run it.  I did and 5 files was detected....this was AFTER I had ran NortonAntivirus 2005.  But when I started Norton, a pop up said that a necessary filed was not detected.  So when I clicked on it, the next window said to uninstall and reinstall Norton.  But I couldn't download Norton again.  I was probably on 50 pages on the Symantec website and made two phones...hung up after waiting for a tech for over 15 minutes.  I went to the bedroom....prayed.  When I came back, my mouse went to the refund page on Symantec.  I asked for a refund.  Downloaded Avast again.  Avast found 2 more files with virus' and my pc is running better than ever!!!

But I am tired.

Last night, right after I got off the phone from talking to my ISP, the power went out.  It sure is dark when it does that!!!!!  I saw Ivalou in her kitchen in candlelight so I called her.  Sure passes the time when you are on the phone when the power is out.  Anyway it came back on after and hour and fifteen minutes but was pulsating and still is today at times.  Ice is all over the trees and one big limb on a Maple at Ivalou's is down.  Other than that we are fine.  Lucky....or just that God is watching out for both of us widows.

Hey there, Etta Sue!  I wondered where you were hiding today!  Glad you got your power back.  I am re-thinking buying Norton 2005 after reading your post.......Hmmmm......

Well, here I am....a moderator over the recipes and I had to ask Larry if the Recipe Index was out in the public.

Sure enough....did you all know that you can go to the main CP index and scroll down to the Recipes?  There you will see in red about the Recipe Index.  Click on there and you can see all the titles organized by sections.  If you see a title you like or curious as to what is in it, just click on that title and voila! you go to that recipe.

Isn't Larry great?  Now if I can keep up with all the new recipes, Larry and I will keep up with the Index!!!!

Keeping clicking and enjoy the recipes!!  There are some great ones in there, folks!!  You men can click too and have your better half whip it up for you!  ;)

Kathy

Here it is...already evening and I haven't posted in 2 days :-[ :-[

I have caught up on the NEM, but still haven't caught up on pictures, prayers, games, menus, etc.

Yesterday I bought a DVD/RW to put in my computer.  After installing it I found the openings in the computer door not big enough....so had to file them, file them, file them (mostly with a metal fingernail file) Now I can re-attach the front and the openings are large enough to let the CD open.
This was a problem with this same computer (Dell) when I bought it new the first time only I didn't understand why the CD had so much trouble opening.  I usually just had to force it open.

Thank you, Al, for your devotional and for your study helps.  I usually try to keep a journal going (on the comuter, of course, because my handwriting is ugh!!!) and write about what the Word is telling me.

My phone is ringing...with callwave and must go and answer..

God's blessings to all tonight.  :)

Hi all
Just checking in quickly I have my friend Colleen over 9she is the friend I was talking about who was asking a lot of questions)  She is going to the washroom right but she has asked if we could watch the Passion of the Christ which totally shocks me because she never had an interest before.
I just had to share that.  I will be back to report later!
