Morning Devotional...

And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
2 Samuel 9:8

When Mephibosheth was five years old, an unfortunate accident caused him to become lame on both feet. Today we would extend every effort to make such a one have a quality of life as normal as possible.

But Mephibosheth's estimation of himself was "a dead dog" as he stood before the king.

Are we any different as we stand before the King of kings? We come dead in trespasses and sins (Eph. 2) and the Lord gives us life.

But more!

David made Mephibosheth sit at his table and enjoy the bounty of the king. Our Lord makes the same offer.

May we accept His invitation today.

Jesus I Come

Colossians 1:13
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness,
and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Author:  William T. Sleeper, 1819-1904
Musician:  George C. Stebbings, 1846-1945

Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light,
Jesus, I come to Thee;
Out of my sickness, into Thy health,
Out of my want and into Thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into Thyself,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of my shameful failure and loss,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the glorious gain of Thy cross,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of earth's sorrows into Thy balm,
Out of life's storms and into Thy calm,
Out of distress to jubilant psalm,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of unrest and arrogant pride,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy blessed will to abide,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of myself to dwell in Thy love,
Out of despair into raptures above,
Upward for aye on wings like a dove,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of the fear and dread of the tomb,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the joy and light of Thy throne,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of the depths of ruin untold,
Into the peace of Thy sheltering fold,
Ever Thy glorious face to behold,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Good photos, Pat!  Thanks for posting them.

Earl has been sick all day.  Not sure what is wrong, but he has vomited some, and didn't want to eat most all day.  I hope it is not contagious, because I read somewhere that persons having the surgery which I had, cannot vomit.

Earl is going to have surgery on the 28th and will be in hospital 3 or 4 days.  This is prostate surgery.  But first we will go to Amarillo this coming Friday to see his doctor over there for 3 month checkup.  I hope all is well.
Edit: make that 2 month checkup.

Everyone have a great Lord's Day tomorrow.  I hope we both feel up to going to church.
In Christ's love,  Janice

Morning all-
Praise the Lord we have awakened on the right side of the lawn again!
Still moving and breathing so I guess He will have something wonderful for us as usual.

Pat: Thanks for yet another wonderful devotional. I personally have felt like a "dead dog" for about the past 6 months at least.
Your song was perfect ! JESUS I COME- and praise God- He is waiting with open arms of love.

Etta Sue - I have posted a prayer request for Jerry on my prayer chain. I have an internet prayer ministry with many faithful prayer warriors. You can be sure God is getting an earful right about now. And I'll bet He's wearing a great big smile from the sound of all those prayers.

Judy- sounds like you had an awesome day. And your having a corn roast in September?
And we're all invited???
Now, where was it you said you lived?
What an event that would be. I can tell in the short time I've been here that there are many real friendships taking place through this site.
What a blessing to be among you.

Well, it's getting to be that time again. i'll catch up with everyone tomorrow sometime. Going fishing on the dock behind my apt in the morning. A couple of the Vietnamese guys from the shop where I have my nails done are coming over. I'm hoping to learn a trick or two about catching fish. Then, weather permitting, it's off for a boat ride with another friend.
Never quite know when the sky will decide to open up and let loose. Especially this time of year. good thing is they seldom last long.

Hi everyone on a beautiful Lord's Day.

Etta Sue, I have read your update on Jerry in the "Have You Prayed About It" discussion and am sitting here in a state of shock that all of this has happened so quickly.   I know we all will be praying for Jerry's recovery.  How quickly things in our life can change.

Janice, sorry to read that Earl isn't feeling well again and that he faces surgery soon.   Hope you stay feeling well.  You all have certainly had a time of it these last few months.

Judyb, it sounds like you had a wonderful day with friends yesterday.  Was this held at your place?

Another fine devotional this morning Pat.  What an awesome God we have that welcomes us at his table not because we deserve to be there but because of what Jesus Christ has done for us.

Papa John, your new laptop sounds great.  Are you going to use the wireless feature with your computer.  What kind of battery life does it have?  I seldom ever close the lid of my laptop so don't think I have to worry about the hinges breaking on it.

We are heading to church in a few minutes.  This will be the last sermon given in our chruch by our current senior pastor and so we are having a combined service with the Contemporary worship group called Lifeline.  We are also having a special day of communion as our church needs to remember why we are there and pull together rather than apart at this difficult time in the life of our congregation.

Shinenlite, don't think I have ever heard of the  Barbara Johnson you mention at the bottom of your posting.

Janet, glad you are home and I did miss your postings.  It sounds like you experienced a wonderful occasion and it is good to learn that Beth is feeling better and we will be praying for her continued healing.

I know I am forgetting some of the things I wanted to write about but as my wife says I am just have a "knowledge delay" not a "senior moment".  See you all later.

mercychild

Etta Sue-I have also read the update on Jerry and will be praying very earnestly for his health.  I'm glad they caught it when they did and the prognosis seems to be alright.  God be with you.  I want to remind you of God's promise that He will not give you more than you can bear, or Jerry.  My mom also knows the situation and will be praying as well.  God be with you.  Jen.

Etta Sue

Good morning all....I really should be on my way to Indy.

I thank you all for your love and concerns and prayers.  I do believe that Jerry will make a complete recovery.

As an added note, I talked to Jane this morning.  She left two messages on my answering machine and I called last night twice....they were out on the town!!!  I called back this morning and when Jane got back from the Continental breakfast, she called me.  She is a wonderful, caring person.  I love her.  They are leaving for Knoxville this morning.  She is hopeful to get online at Knoxville.  I am sad that we didn't connect up but there will be another time, I am sure.

I am off to Indy!!!

Love you all and God Bless You All

Barbara Johnson is a wonderfully funny Christian speaker and writer. Some of her other book titles include: "Pack Up Your Gloomies in a Great Big Box", "Stick a Geranium in Your Hat and Be Happy" and "Splashes of Joy in the Cesspools of Life"

She uses scripture to give a positive outlook on life's frustrating moments. She insists that laughing in the face of adversity is not a form of denial, but a proven tool for managing stress.

One of my favorite sayings of hers is this:
"HOPE IS FAITH HOLDING OUT ITS HAND IN THE DARK."

I would encourage you and anyone else who could use some lighthearted edification to seek her out.

Good morning, I have already seen Jerry's photos and been to Have  you Prayed about it to pray for Jerry and post a note to Etta sue.

Pat a great devotional this morning, I don't know how many times I have felt like a "dead dog" while trying to conquer the smoking habit. I have felt like "filthy" rags before our God, I am still working to become "clean" before HIm.

Larry there is an interesting combination church here, called chruch of the Good Shepard they are both Luthern and Presbyterian. Isn't that interesting, they are the only church like that in the world.

Janice I am continuing to pray for you and Earl.

JudyB, sounds like you had a wonderful time with you BBQ and guests.

Jo: I hope catch lots of fish, what will you do with them all?

Must get ready for church now so I will be back later

Janet

Good morning!  I have been to read the update on Jerry, and am adding my prayers for him, Etta Sue and Jerry's daughter.

Beth is coming over to go to church with me, so I have only a few minutes here.  But I will be back later to read more posts.  "Miss a day, miss a lot!" That's true here in CP, and if you miss three days, it takes a while to catch up again!

I took both my cameras to Colo. Springs, and when I started to use the Kodak....dead batteries!  Then, while taking pictures in the Garden of the Gods, poof!  the batteries in the HP gave out!  So we went to a convenience store in Manitou Springs, bought more batteries, and I hope I got some nice pictures to share.  (When I figure out how to get them from Darrel's computer to mine!)  I can't download from the HP to my computer with the XP program. >:( :( :'(

I pray you all have a great day with our wonderful Jesus!

I have read all three of Barbara Johnson's books., and they are a delight!

Etta Sue., Sounds like Jerry's kids have a wonderful relationship with you!  What could be nicer.  I have posted my thoughts in the Prayer Forum.

I have jsut returned from church. I think I have found a great church. The message was on Being an Encourager. Even when we a re feeling discouraged we should always try to encourage others around us. We should always trun to the Lord our God for encouragement. Pastor used a Tommy Barnett quote. Lets see if I can get it right, " A freind who isn't in need is a friend indeed."

Papa John

Good afternoon.  We are having a delightful day here.  Our worship was, as the teenagers say, awesome.  The singing was mostly songs of praise and thanksgiving.  Chris, our minister spoke on forgiveness and why we should be a forgiving people.  Our campers are at home.  Actually we had two camps, one week for the younger campers and then a second week for older campers.  During these two weeks 16 precious young people received Jesus as their Savior and were baptized.

Etta Sue, we continue to pray for Jerry and we thank you for keeping us posted.  He is important to us and we want him to get well soon.

I'm enjoying the new computer.  Marilyn, I AM blessed.  Actually we try to save a little for emergencies and a broken computer is emergency enough to raid the piggy bank.

Janet

Papa John, I would agree that a broken computer constitutes an emergency! ;) :)  Isn't it wonderful when we see our young people coming to the Lord?  That's the only cure for the ills of this world.

We also had a good service this morning.  The friends who took Beth and me to Colorado Springs came, this was their first visit to this church.

We are taking Beth to Amarillo tomorrow for two appointments with her doctors, and to install a security system in Darrel's sister's house.  It will be a long day, I'm sure.  Janice, it seems we always just miss going to Amarillo on the same day as you!  I do hope Earl is feeling better, and that it wasn't anything contagious.

I need to get things ready to enter into the fair here on Tuesday.  I don't know how much time I will have that day, so it's better to be prepared.

My little grandson is on MSN, better talk to him a while!

Good afternoon, everyone!  Just checking in to say "HI".  It's raining in Ottawa right now, and I have to go to the grocery to buy milk.  My kids drink so much milk, but that's good for them.

Take care all,

Ursula, it was raining here in Guelph earlier and is nice and clear now so clear weather is on its way to you!

Marilyn - I'm so glad you have found a church already.  It must be a very friendly church for you to be satisfied already.

Etta Sue:  I'm so concerned for Jerry. I hope this dosen't change your plans, and that you will still be going to Calgary.

Iain:  Missing your devotional today.

So Papa John has a new computer.  That is great and for some of us...a necessity.  Keeps our minds active and in touch with the world.

I think I am the only person around that doesn't have a cell phone.  I do wish I had one now but I wouldn't want to be tied down to one for a year.  I don't know if you can get one for a month or not....never had an interest to have a cell phone.

Jo and Larry ~ My little words of wisdom at the bottom of my NEM posts are from an inspirational calender by Barbara Johnson!!!  I have missed a few days posting them...wonder why?

I have an afternoon nap and had my supper. I've planted some Baby's breath and Forget Me Nots in posts.  How wonderful to be able to plant flowers again after 10 years of desert sand and rocky soil where nothing grows.

I thing my Philedendron and my Ti plant will survive. I am still nursing the Ti plant. My little Avacado tree made it the best alson with my Onion mother  plant. It is the kind that gets little onion sets on the top of it after it has gon to seed. These little onions are good for pickling or eating just as the are.

No I think I will walk the dogs.

Did anyone sing that hymn I put in this morning in the devotional?  I really love that hymn.

Let's sing another one...

Blessed Assurance
(Click to hear music)

Words by Fanny Crosby
Music by Phoebe P. Knapp

Hebrews 10:22
"Let us draw near with a true heart
in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience,
and our bodies washed with pure water
."

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Papa John

Janet, yes it is a wonderful time when our young people  give themselves to the Lord at an early age.  It is really a time of rejoicing.

Ursula glad to see you tonight.  Yes it is important to have plenty of milk for the kids.  I still like milk and I'm not a kid anymore.

Etta Sue we didn't have a cell phone until a few years ago our daughter Martha bought us one and has paid for the service for us.  She said it was for her peace of mind so we could always keep in touch.  We use it a lot more than I thought we would.

I hope you all have a good night's rest.

We just got our cell phones a couple of months ago, after much prayer and number crunching.  We are both alone in a car so often and Gene also transports elderly people (most of them are younger than I am ;D) to doctors, etc., that we decided it wouldn't be a luxury.  Pay phones are getting so scarce if anything happened with one of those folks he'd have trouble getting help.  It also gives me peace of mind when he's off alone fishing. And now we don't have any more long distance charges on our phone bill, either.

Etta Sue, I've just read about Jerry's surgery and your travels and travails.  Praise God you were on hand at the crucial time but now take care of yourself, too.  We're keeping all of you in our prayers.

A full week of work starts tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. so I'll probably be shutting down early tonight.

Well, looks like everyone is pretty well satisfied with their day so far.  Glad to hear that.  Cell phones, eh?  I have one, which I got when travelling between cities.  I had to teach my parents how to use it.  I don't use it much anymore.  My younger sister has one, however, and she never goes anywhere without it.

I went to watch my friend's soccer game this evening, and we had a nice long chat on the way home in the car.  It's really nice to be able to chat and connect with people so deeply once in a while.  Sometimes gatherings are just so superficial, even if they're not intended to be.

My little brother shocked his finger tonight :(.  We have been painting the walls, so the light cover was off, and I didn't even realize he could reach that high!  But he's alright.  Well, I'm off to bed.  God bless you all.

mercychild

I forgot to tell you this little story.

My mom and dad took Ben (4), and Hannah (6) to a park in Elmira the other night.  There was another family there playing.  Ben went over to where the father was smiling at Hannah.  Hannah left, and Ben looked up at the father, and out of nowhere says, "I know she's cute, but you can't have her, she's mine".  Isn't that a hoot!  I laughed so hard when my mom told me about it.  Kids are adorable.

karmat

That is toooooo funny mercychild.  That needs to be writtien down so it can be remembered for a long time.

Today was a good day.  We had Bible school commencement tonight; the church was full, SRO, and a lot of them were grandparents and parents that used to go to church but don't anymore.  As a matter of fact, many of the children have never been to church before this week.  It was a really good week, and I enjoyed it.

I hope everyone has had a good weekend, and is gearing up for an awesome week ahead!!

sorry this is short.  I promise I will try to do better1! :-*

Pat

It was so good to read Etta Sue's post that Jerry is doing well after his very serious surgery.  Let's continue to pray for him.
