JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

How To Find Contentment

    Matthew 6:31-34 says...

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

    Morning Devotional...

    THE HEART
    of the
    PROBLEM

Have you noticed that dishonourable conduct and downright dishonesty appear to be sweeping our nation from Parliament to the market place?  It seems that the depravity of man is in evidence everywhere.  Adulterous relationships are condoned.  Incest is on the increase and crimes of violence are reported on a daily basis in our newspapers.

On the international scene things are no better.  Terrorism, war, aggression and hate abound on every hand.  The humanists' dream of a world united in universal brotherhood and peace is but a hollow joke.  Man has proved that he can not govern his own lust for power and pleasure.  How then does he hope to rule creation in goodness and justice?

The sociologist and the humanist tell us that the problem lies not with man, but rather with man's environment.  Such an argument is surely foolish, for man has made his own environment what it is.  Our cities, our slums, our dens of iniquity, our battlefields and our bombs are all the products of man's depraved ingenuity.

Almost 2,000 years ago the Lord Jesus Christ declared man's heart to be the problem.  He said, "Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies; these are the things which defile a man" (Matthew 15:19-20).  The Bible also asks a pertinent question and supplies the only reasonable answer:  "From whence come wars and fightings among you?  Come they not hence even of your lusts that war in your members?" (James 4:1).  This state of affairs is common to all human beings.  "For all have sinned and come short of the glory (standard) of God" (Romans 3:23).

All of us are born in bondage to iniquity (see Psalm 51:5) and we need to be set free.  The only one who can set us free from the slavery of sin is the Lord Jesus Christ.  He Himself said, "If the SON shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36)

The good news of the gospel is that Jesus the spotless, sinless, Son of God became Man and paid the price necessary to redeem us from sin.  That was indeed a costly transaction, for He paid the price in His Own Blood.

The Bible says, "Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things such as silver and gold, from your vain conversation, received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious Blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot" (I Peter 1:18, 19).

    L. E. Jones, the hymn writer, knew the power of the redeeming Blood of Jesus when he wrote: "Would you be free from your burden of sin?  There's power in the Blood, Power in the Blood, Would you o'er evil the victory win?  There's wonderful power in the blood!"

Do you long to be cleansed and set free?  Then turn away from self and sin (repent) and place your trust in the Son of God who shed His Blood for sinners.  He was raised again from the dead to prove that He paid the redemption price in full.  Why not trust Him with your eternal destiny now?

The Bible declares that anyone who thus repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is saved for eternity and should:

    • Be baptized (immersed in water).   Matthew 28:19 & Acts 2:41
    • Join with others of like faith.                             Hebrews 10:25
    • Separate themselves from ungodly systems.  2 Corinthians 6:16
    • Tell others of God's grace.                               Matthew 28:19

Ha!  I got bonked posting in yesterday's thread.  But never fear, I think I have it "cut" and ready to paste.

Janet, in answer to your question --

Still looking, but so far this --

    Ecclesiastes 9
4   For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
5   For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
6   Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

(Bearing in mind that "living" = Christian, "dead" = non-Christian)

I cannot find the exact verse I was thinking of.  I will try and get a hold of my brother tomorrow and see if he remembers it.

    Have a good night/morning/afternoon all!

    Ruthie

Had a busy day.  Will post tomorrow.

    Love Ruthie
The Lord is my light and my salvation Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

    A Baker

Thanks Pat , for this mornings devotional. I do pray that it will reach the hearts of many.
                                                     John.

    Matthew 7: 7-8  NIV

    "Ask and it will be given to you;
    seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
    For everyone who ask receives;
    he who seeks finds;
    and to him who knocks,
    the door will be opened."

God made us to seek after Him and
    find Him (Acts 17 : 17-28).
Try to imagine the astounding reality of this
truth: the God of the Universe is
thrilled to see us when we come home to Him!
Is it any wonder that He longs for us to
seek Him so He can welcome us with the same joy as
the father welcomed the son back again
    (Luke 15:11-31)?

    Prayer...

    Father, while there are
    many things that my
    selfish heart seeks after,
    deep inside i know that
    what i need most, and
    what i seek most right
now, is to know you in a
    more holy and majestic way.
In Jesus name i seek you. AMEN

When they were come to the place,
    which is called Calvary,
    there they crucified Him.
    Luke 23:33

    Words: Manie P. Ferguson (1850-1932)

Fairest of all the earth beside,
Chiefest of all unto Thy bride,
Fullness divine in Thee I see,
    Beautiful Man of Calvary!

    Refrain

    That Man of Calvary
Has won my heart from me,
And died to set me free,
    Blest Man of Calvary!

Granting the sinner life and peace,
    Granting the captive sweet release,
Shedding His blood to make us free,
    Merciful Man of Calvary!

    Refrain

Giving the gifts obtained for men,
Pouring out love beyond our ken,
    Giving us spotless purity,
    Bountiful Man of Calvary!

    Refrain

Comfort of all my earthly way,
    Jesus I'll meet Thee some sweet day;
Center of glory Thee I'll see,
    Wonderful Man of Calvary!

Thank you all so much for the comments and scriptures regarding heaven.  Papa John, I hope you will also give us your thoughts on this subject when you come in.  Thank you.

What Karma expressed is very close to the answer I gave the person asking the question, but I wasn't positive about my answer, so wanted some more light on the subject.

I'm going to a Bible study and luncheon at the church, then will change into my grungies and paint that room that I got primed last week (at the church.)

They tell us that HOT weather is on the way, and I do not look forward to that.  But this little cool spell has been so welcome and so enjoyed.  And after all, it IS July! 8)

Well, now I know how to make short little videos with my new camera!  But they aren't very good, mostly of my feet as I walked. :o  I accidentally had the camera set on video-- it was not my intention!  Sure eats up the batteries in a hurry, too!

Ladybug - the Scripture reference for which you were looking is Luke 16:19-31.  Lazarus (remember this is only a parable, not an actual happening) was "in Abraham's bosom (heaven).  We're not told whether he even knew of the rich man.  The point of the parable, though is that the rich man had this life only in which to repent - if he didn't, then he must go to the place of torment.  Another point to the parable is that people are not made to believe simply by means of miracles.  Jesus said, "If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead."

    Papa John

Good morning.  Sometimes we have questions which may not be answered in the Bible.  In these cases we may end up having to say that we do not know.  I believe brother Al's answer is correct.  And yet what I know is that God's word is true and however it works out in the end that it will be wonderful there.

Rev 7:17  For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." (NIV)
Rev 21:3-4  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."  (NIV)

Actually it doesn't say there will be "no tears."   It says God will wipe away every tear.  Will we remember?  I'm not sure.  But if we do God will wipe away our tears.  We will see God's glory and in our praise and worship of God we will understand and "There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain."  Sounds good doesn't it?

I hope you all have a good day.   ;D

IN a remote village in Sierra Leone, West Africa, I befriended Alpha, one of the local men on our building crew. Alpha was impressed with my tool set and was amazed to find a woman working in construction. He'd bring extra rice and greens for lunch and we'd sit and talk. He asked about my husband, and I told him I wasn't married. Alpha said he wanted sons and that he would marry soon. He wondered whether I'd stay in his country, and then surprised me by saying he had an important question for me. I was nervous about his impending marriage proposal, and the next day Alpha was solemn as he asked if I was ready to answer his question. I nodded. "When you go back to America," he said, "may I have your trowel?"

        Karmat, Good morning to you.

Ruthie, How are you? Hope your well.

Ria, What wonderful words you always have.Thank you for sharing with us. Yes, I am almost ready, We will paint on Friday when Craig gets home. I can't wait, it will give me a larger room with a full bath and hot tub. I don't know how I will get my computer in there. HA!!

Etta Sue, It is so nice to get out for lunch, Hope you have a great time.

Marilyn, I am so excited about your new camera equipment. A new tripod is great. I love mine.

A Baker, A big welcome to you.

Janet, That is a great story. I love reading your letters.

Al, Thank you for sharing the parable,it helps when others give examples of what were needing to understand.

Papa John, Hello, I do agree with you about wiping away our tears. It all sounds good regarding when we are home with our father, although I still have some work to do here  to do and things I feel God still has me doing.

Lady Bug, That is a wonderful poem of one liners. Aren't they so true.

Sue, Yes you are right I felt so happy last night, like I am still teachable. It is a great feeling isn't it. I really have to struggle to learn it but Thank God for Pat, Ha  she is so patient.

Well, I have stared real estate classes here at home. I started them last year at school but with Cheryl having gone so far down hill I can't leave the house. I want to do something else in my life where I am helping people but more at the BEGINNING of there life. I will still be doing nursing but I feel this will give me other doors to open for my new future. Also with my photography I am trying to do family portraits at home here and use it in other avenues in my life.

Just so you all now, Craig my fiance and I have talked about getting married in the near future. We are have been waiting because we both had 2 new grandbabies and have one last daughter who is getting married, No time for us to just run off one week by ourselves, bare foot on the beach in Hawaii  to get hitched. We have both been married before so its just going to be us. More photos in Hawaii, I love it. We really haven't set a date but Craig is not wanting to wait much longer. I went threw a horrible divorce 4 years ago and have been in no hurry to go through anything like I did for 5 years.  Of course I know that is impossible with Craig. He is a God fearing man with Great love and solid morals.

Well Keep me in you your prayers as I try to learn this real estate stuff. I am looking forward to a new life.  New job and new husband, The Lord God is so good.

Have a blessed and wonderful filled day. May God grant you your prayers and give you peace,~ALMA

    The Church: Commotion, Not Devotion

..and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire,
and after the fire a still small voice.
    --1 Kings 19:12

"The accent in the Church today," says Leonard Ravenhill, the English
evangelist, "is not on devotion, but on commotion." Religious
extroversion has been carried to such an extreme in evangelical
circles that hardly anyone has the desire, to say nothing of the
courage, to question the soundness of it. Externalism has taken over.
God now speaks by the wind and the earthquake only; the still small
voice can be heard no more. The whole religious machine has become a
noisemaker. The adolescent taste which loves the loud horn and the
thundering exhaust has gotten into the activities of modern
Christians. The old question, "What is the chief end of man?" is now
answered, "To dash about the world and add to the din thereof."...

We must begin the needed reform by challenging the spiritual
validity of externalism. What a man is must be shown to be more
important than what he does. While the moral quality of any act is
imparted by the condition of the heart, there may be a world of
religious activity which arises not from within but from without and
which would seem to have little or no moral content. Such religious
conduct is imitative or reflex. It stems from the current cult of
commotion and possesses no sound inner life.  The Root of the
    Righteous, 84,85.

"Lord, if this was true in Ravenhill's and Tozer's day, how much more
true today! Quiet my heart today, in the midst of the rush and din of
church busyness, that I might be able to hear the 'still small voice.'
How desperately we need to hear it, but how seldom we're able to
    listen. Amen."

What a great man, that Tozer, lol, that  quote makes me fall about laughing :)
"The old question, "What is the chief end of man?" is now

. Man's chief end is  actually to glorify God and to enjoy him for ever.  :D

I've had a busy day today.  I went to the Bible study and luncheon, then changed my clothes and painted a room in the church basement.  It was paneled in a dark paneling and they wanted it white, so I had primed it last week.  Then I came home and painted (on canvas) for about an hour and a half; then caught up on my mail and bills.  ( hate that job, and tend to put it off too long.  Also got the laundry caught up, bed changed, etc.  Now I am ready to sit and watch the news, then The International Intelligence Briefing.

Blessings on all of you tonight!

Sarah it has to be Jonah and the whale.  You can come up with neet art projects and snacks out of it.  One snack I saw done was blue Jelloo with the goldfish crackers stirred in.

Another was a pudding with worms in it.

    Sooo much choice.

What ever you do have fun and enjoy learning about our awesome God while you are at it!

I will stop in for a few moments  to have a cuppa tea with y-all before I go to Bible Study. Gilbert was here to mow the front yard and Weed whack the back. I asked him if Savannah could come over to spend some girl time with me. He is going to tell her.

I went shopping with Gloria today at K-mart and spent more than I should have but I did stock up on dog food, bought enough for a whole month. I bought myself a George Foreman grill and a shirt. We were going to go to the mall to Bed bath and beyond, but it was getting late and I had toget to Fay's. So I stopped at Burger King and bought lunch for Fay.

I wrote a couple of letter and now I am going to update one of those prayer requests.

He must have left the back gate open because both dogs just came in panting and all tired out. I will go close the gate. But Thank you Jesus that you brought them back home all safe and sound.

Thank you Pat for that great devotional from Jack and about contentment.  How are you today?   It is raining cats & dogs here in North York.  I sure hope the grass benefits from it all.

I agree with Karma.   When we are in heaven there will be no sadness.  If we were pinning away for loved ones that were not there, it wouldn't be heaven.   Heaven will be absolutely perfect.

Thank you Ria for your devotional.   It is wonderful having a relationship with the God of the Universe!  Is it still raining in Holland?  It is supposed to get hot for the weekend here in Canada.

Marilyn, we have 2 recyle boxes.   One for cans and one for paper.   The garbage man picks them up at the curb every 2 weeks, so we don't have to take them anywhere.

That was a great story Janet about the man from Sierra Leone.  A group of people have gone to Sierra Leone from my church.  I think they did construction also.

Ladybug, I just love those one liners.  They are so much fun.  Do you live in the States?

Hi Alma...I am pretty good.   I am waiting for my family doctor to tell me what next to do about my eyes.  I probably have a cataract.   But that is not serious.  It is the protruding eye from the thyroid that is important to correct.

I am so happy for you that you have Craig.  Sounds like you have some exciting plans for the near future.  Wishing you God's blessing on your relationship.   I have been divorced twice.  Married 20 years the first and 10 years the second.  I have been on my own now for 4 years and there is no one.  I want a God fearing man if I am to have one at all.   I will keep you in my prayers Alma for sure.

Sara, I think one favourite Bible story is Daniel in the lion's den.   Sounds like you have had a wonderful week.

    God Bless everyone

    Love Ruthie

    Hi everyone.

Pat, I am still so very happy that I have managed to post my own photos.  I can't thank you enough for your generosity.

After a very long day (AGAIN  ::)), I think I will be shutting the computer down and going to bed early.\ (before 11 instead of after midnight  :o)

    Good Night

    Sarah --
Noah and the Ark (When I was little, I thought that was the coolest)
    The Christmas Story
Joseph and the Coat of many Colors
The Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes

Do you need any more, or any ideas of how to teach them?  I like the idea of blue jello and goldfish.  With Noah's ark, you could use animal crackers.  And so on, and so on, and so on.  . . .

Glad you've had a good time on all your travels.

Mieka -- If you peek in, HELLO!!!  Sorry I haven't been "communicating" much.  Super busy.  I think of you often though. :-)

I'd better go to bed, now.   Travis went to bed a bit earlier, so he will probably be up a bit earlier in the morning.

    Pat

Well, this has been a quiet day in New Every Morning.

My computer has been off more than on as we've had so many weather alerts of tornados in Southern Ontario.  My windows have been open and then slammed shut!  HAHAHA!

Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Yes, HELLO MIEKA!  I got your little message that you paged me but I wasn't at my computer when you did.

    Must close the door now.

Hope you enjoy tomorrow's music.  It's one of my favourites.  I used to love playing it on the piano.  But what a wonderful message for us to realize that we have "Wonderful Grace of Jesus"!!!
