JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
Genesis 21:17

A boy's voice in the middle of the wilderness. It sounds like a hopeless
situation, but twice in this verse we are told that God heard. In Genesis 16:13-14 Hagar learned that God sees us, and in this instance she learned that God hears us, yea even the feeble cry of a dying child in the desert.

There in that lonely place without a temple or an altar, God heard. Is your voice weak?

Are you in a desert place?

Is your hope at a low ebb?

Don't give up. Remember, ours is the God who lives, sees and hears.

Call unto Him in prayer.
--Carl Knott

Tell Him about the heartache, and tell Him the longings too,
Tell Him the baffled purpose when we scarce know what to do.
Then leaving all our weakness with the One divinely strong,
Forget that we bore the burden and carry away the song.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you Pat for the good, encouraging reminder, that God is just a cry away, and always on time!

Lately, I've been reading about our human weakness and how God fits into the picture.  A friend of mine, who isn't a Christian, remarked to me after we'd been discussing God's faithfulness, "well if God is so faithful, where was he on 9/11?". Well, I asked this friend if he was sure that he wanted God to intervene in the world's affairs, when he hadn't even invited Him to be part of his own life.  My friend suddenly remembered he had something to do, rather than hang around and talk to me.

My friend's response reminded me of one of my favorite CS Lewis statements.  It comes from The Case for Christianity.

But I wonder whether people who ask God to interfere openly and directly in our world quite realise what it will be like when he does.  When that happens, it is the end of the world.  When the author walks on to the stage the play is over.  God is going to invade, all right: but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole universe melting away like a dream and something else—something it never entered your head to conceive—comes crashing in; something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choice left? For this time it will be God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature.  It will be too late then to choose your side.  There is no use saying you choose to lie down when it has become impossible to to stand up.  That will not be the time for choosing: it will be the time when we discover which side we really have chosen, whether we realised it before or not.  Now, today, this moment is our chance to choose the right side.  God is holding back to give us that chance.

Hi everyone.  We are having the most beautiful morning with the temperature probably in the 70s and low humidity.  Our son is here working on changing the brakes on our daughter's car.  He forgot he had to bleed the lines after putting on the new pads and has just now headed by to his house for the special tools he has to do the job.  It probably didn't take him more than 15 minutes on each of the front brakes.  Fortunatley the back ones are still in good shape.  He said these were the easiest brakes he had ever put on.

JudyB, that is sure a lot of African violets.  You must really have a green thumb.  Did you get your lawn tractor fixed?

Pat, isn't it frustrating to have the power go out when there isn't a storm in the area.  We are so dependent on electricity.  I am glad it wasn't out too long.

Marilyn, glad the chiropractor was able to help you. Both my wife and daughter go to a chiropractor, my wife occasionally and my daughter usually twice a week.  She has been going so long that she has a special deal with the chiropractor that she pays once a week and can get a second adjustment in that 7 day period without additonal cost.  The only problem is his office is almost an hour from here.  The one Pat sees is fairly close by.

Well, I hope all have a very nice day.

Pat, thanks for the devotional this morning and Kevin thanks for sharing the C.S. Lewis writing.

Not much on my calendar today.  This is our 44th wedding anniversary and I made a special card for my wife this morning and we will probably go out to eat later today to celebrate.  I got her a very special birthday present for her birthday on Sunday but am not going to give it to her until then.

Aha I finally got in. I have been trying to get in since 3:30 AM. I couldn't sleep last night  as my mind would not shut off. First I was praying for everyone, Then I was thinking about doing something real nice for Fay on her 97th birthday next Friday. After that I  was thinking of how I want to rearrange my house. So I just got out of bed and played Ont he computer, spent time with God and started cleaning my house and doing laundry.. Have I worn all y-all out yet? I still have to go to work until noon.

Good devotional Pat. Hi Kevin won't it soon be bedtime for you? What are you doing today.

Happy Anniversary Pat and Larry.

Good morning my dear brothers and sisters.

Marilyn, you poor thing.  You'll be zonked by the time you have to go to work.

My wife will be returning from Alaska this afternoon (she has been working there in 2 week stints for the last month and will probably continue through the summer).  That's my personal good news for the day (other than the good news that I hold EVERY day in my life with Christ).

On the other side, I am going to have to take a company to task.  I've given them ample time to credit my account for a refund.  Despite their assurances, my credit card has yet to be credited.  Enough time has passed.  It's time to allow my credit card company to earn their keep and institute a charge back to the company.  When dealing with issues like this, it's often difficult to maintain grace.  I will pray to have the inner strength to act accordingly.

Happy Anniversary Larry

Thank you Kevin and Pat for the words you've offered us to ponder.

Larry no I didn't get the lawn tractor fixed.  It will cost too much.  On the flip side of the same coin I have been given one tractor, and loaned another.  I have suggested to John that I want a tred mill.  He Johingly said, showing me the walk behind mowr "Here is our treaadmill dear!".  Yes I am getting exercise.

Happy Anniversary Larry and Pat!

Kevin and Pat.... AMEN

ohenry does she take pictures while she is in Alaska?  Wesure would love to see them if she does..

Marilyn Don't work too hard today.  Perhaps, you should write out your plans thus making them more "real" and perhaps that will give you enough sleepiness to actually sleep?

Have a God day everyone.
JudyB

Judy...alas, she is not a photographer.  I will likely be visiting her during one of her stays in August and will hopefully have some pictures to share.

Kevin - I'm more than glad that He chooses me, because I never would have chosen Him.

Happy anniversary, Larry and Pat!
We had our 51st in December.

Above is my favorite illusion.  Just keep looking at it until something happens!!

Hello, everyone!

Well, High Speed Internet is fantastic when it works.  I couldn't get internet or email this morning.  I called.  'When was the last time it worked fine for you?'  'Last night before I went to bed.' 'When did you first notice a problem?'  'This morning when I got up.'  Then after checking, I was told it was Earthlink not my computer.  And it could be 24 hrs to 48 hrs before it is fixed.  Well, it was fixed this afternoon.  So much for HSI!

I got me an exercise bike and an office chair with arms....all at my brother's garage sale!  And he delivered!

Ivalou and I went to Pendleton for lunch and then we stopped at the License Branch for her to renew her drivers license.  Are all License Branch's slow?  Or just the ones in Indiana?  Seems that they all moved at a snail's pace.

Then a nap this afternoon.

Now it is time for supper!

Marilyn

I sure am tired. I laid down for abut an hour when I got home from Fay's but I didn't sleep. I haven't done much of anything this afternoon but crochet and play on my computer. I feel like can't wait until it is time to go to bed.

Tomorrow I am taking my car to the tire shop for new front tires and a front end alignment.

Well I can't think straight enough to  post anymore so I will see all y-all tomorrow.

You know the song, "I've been everywhere, man!  I've been everywhere!"  Well, I can sing that today!  I forgot to order an Avon order last book and the lady is going on vacation tomorrow and wanted it to take with her and so I was phoning to other distributors and finally got all but two items and she's just fine with that.

ohenry, it will be lovely for you to have your wife home and nice also for you to go up there in august.  I can hardly wait till we see some photos.  I understand your frustration too regarding the company who hasn't credited your credit card. It IS difficult to maintain grace in these situations.  Been there done that.

Thanks Kevin for the good word this morning.  I appreciated that.

Happy Anniversary, Larry and Pat!  Jack and I would have celebrated our 45th this year had he still been here.

Marilyn, you must be tired.  I had a bad night of sleeplessness as well last night.  Hope to go to bed early tonight.

You got a good deal, Etta Sue it sounds like.  Garage sales sometimes are so much fun.

Hi Ritz!  Are you enjoying your new home in Alabama?  Do you miss Texas?

Hi Judy!
