JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Mieka, a passage in the Bible may help to answer your question about riches.

1 Tim 6:17-19  Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.  In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. (NIV)

I thought Marilyn's friend was funny too.  I think what she meant is that she and her friend had Lemon Chicken at the restaurant called, The China House which she will miss when she moves to northern California.  Right?

--- Papa John    ;D          <:))))><<

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Good evening.

I got my car serviced and had lunch at Jerry's.  He grilled pork tenderloins and hash browns on the grill.  He is a great griller!!

I started another plastic purse, got tired and, you guessed it, took a nap.

The weather was becoming threatening when I awoke so I came on home.  On the way home, it started raining....big half-dollar drops and heavy, gusty wind...and in less than a mile, it quit.  When I turned onto my road, the sun was bright.  But it has rained since I got home.  People in Indiana are being flooded out and they aren't even near any lakes, streams, creeks or rivers.  It is just heavy rain and it doesn't look like it is going to let up for a few days.  Also those people do not have flood insurance so their home damage is their own expense.  How sad.

Tomorrow will be a 'get caught up with house work day' and then I will be in Dayton again with Ivalou, Thursday and Friday, and bring Lydia and her sister, Kara, back while the rest of the family goes to New York for their church.  I don't remember how long they are staying here, though.

God Bless all of you....you, too,  Sister ;)  ;)  ;)

I'D RATHER HAVE JESUS

I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
I'd rather be His than have riches untold;
I'd rather have Jesus than houses or land;
I'd rather be led by His nail-pierced hand:

refrain:
Than to be the king of a vast domain or be held in sin's dread sway!
I'd rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today.

I'd rather have Jesus than men's applause;
I'd rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I'd rather have Jesus than world-wide fame;
I'd rather be true to His holy name:

He's fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He's sweeter than honey from out the comb;
He's all that my hungering spirit needs -
I'd rather have Jesus and let Him lead:

Mieka, it's just so wonderful to be able to say, "Hey! I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold!" isn't it?  I'm so happy that I can shout that from the mountain tops or the deepest valley!

I'd Rather Have Jesus than ANYTHING!

Dear Mieka: I hope you know by now that we love you here - that our concern is only and always for your good.  With that in mind, I want to say just a very few things about Buddah.  The man Buddah was one of the great and well-known philosophers and teachers in human history.  His teachings have been revered and learned and meditated upon.  When Buddahs were carved, it was for the purpose of being reminded of him and of his teaching.  Similar things have been done in Christianity - many of the saints have been either carved or painted for the same purpose - to revere their teachings and thoughts.  Even our Lord Jesus Christ has been captured in paintings.

The problem is, though, that we tend to become superstitious about these images, and we begin to feel that there is some actual spirit or being - life - in the image itself.  But God does not want us to think so.  He wants us to realize that He is God alone, and there is no other.  So He commanded that we make no graven images, neither bow down to them.  Because of our weakness, it is best if we avoid having such images, lest we begin to worship them instead of the true God.

Jesus was also a very great Teacher, as John said, "full of grace and truth."  And it's no wonder, because He is God the Son and has come from the very throne of God.  He said to the disciples, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father."  But He doesn't want us to make images, carvings, paintings, etc. of Him.  He wants us to realize that "God is a Spirit, and they who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth." (John 4:24)

There are many Buddahs/philosophers/teachers in the world, but there is only one Son of God.  He says, "You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve."

Dear Mieka, I urge you, gently and lovingly - turn away from your Buddah, for he cannot save you as Jesus can.  He cannot love you as God can.  He cannot give you eternal life as God can.  That's why we'd "rather have Jesus."

mieka

I love you very much Mr Moak. these words are very kind.

My Buddha is to me only a stone. a reminder of "a MAN" that i will always love and have a kind thought for. much as You and as Papa John and any other picture of one who has been a great help to me at time when I need a help.
I do not and never worship this stone.

Today and for more than 5 years i only worship the the God I Am.

But is it wrong to give this stone to another that they might see this as idol? that they might worship it as I have never done this?

Will God be mad at me fo the weakness I cause with my stone? That I give this to another.

Must I a smash this stone to do what is right by God.

Or is it ok to show this culture that is very real today. and to sell this stone so a Christian can be more strong. And a one who is poor can have food from this Picture/idol/stone or what ever it might be. Today it is my Buddha. ???

Janet

Mieka, I just sent you an IM. ;)

Hi, Pat!  Sorry I kept getting booted off this morning, the server seems to be working better this evening!

Marilyn and Mieka, I got such a good giggle out of "my friend, Lemon Chicken!"  I would have teased you just the same way!  Hugs to you both!

We got more work done here this afternoon!  Yea!  Some day we will finish, yet, if we don't give up or wear out first!

I'm going to see if there are any new photos today!

Hi,

Time for my daily quick pop-in!!!  I'm just on my way out to go downtown.  I'M TURNING OFF THE COMPUTER!!!!!!

Good bye,

Ursula

Al Moak

Dear Mieka - you are absolutely right that it would not be good to give that stone to another, for you might indeed be tempting them.  Your kindness and concern is evident in thinking that way.  If it is only to show others the culture from which it came, that is not evil.  I was only concerned lest you yourself be tempted to think of it as having a life of its own.  We humans are, after all, weak and unstable.

mieka

I love you SO much mr Moak, I hope you know it.

Your words here go right to my heart.

I will save these words today too.  I will tell you soon what I will do with my Buddha. I am VERY happy he will have a proper place.

I love to know what others might do.  I have thought of this for so many weeks now.  I am at peace with my God I AM.

mercychild

Aww, Pat, are you going to miss me?  ;)
Don't worry, I'll be in touch when I come back.  Just don't have any extravagant parties without me.  ;)

Papa John

Mieka, I'm sorry you have a problem with your Buddha. I think that if you want to keep it this would be OK as long as you do not look upon it to worship it or think it has some magical powers.   This is just my opinion.  And I respect the opinions of others too.

Of course to make an idol and worship it is absolutely wrong.  I like something in the Psalms idols.

Ps 115:3-9
3   Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.
4   But their idols are silver and gold, made by the hands of men.
5   They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see;
6   they have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but they cannot smell;
7   they have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but they cannot walk; nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
8   Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.
9   O house of Israel, trust in the LORD-- he is their help and shield.

(NIV)

I hope you all have a good rest tonight.

It sure is easy to get behind here.   :(  Lately I don't seem to be able to stay up and "compute" - maybe because I usually wake up around 5:00 or 5:30 a.m. ??? ??? ???  I suppose I could turn over and try to get back to sleep, but that's such a wonderful time of day.  Everything is so quiet and I can really listen for the "still small voice" while I study and pray.  By 7:00 or 7:30 the neighorhood comes alive with cars and trucks and dogs and the distractions begin.  And of course one of the loudest noises then is my tummy telling me it's time for breakfast!  ;D

Good evening everyone.  I sure do enjoy the friendly chatter we have here.  I almost decided NOT to post tonight., as I didn't sleep well (again).  I would have missed all of you.

Tonight we were just finishing supper, when a friend whom I haven't seen in awhile, dropped in, along with her three children.  We had a nice visit, "catching up"! :-*

This morning, Norm and I, along with our helper, Elsie, started on a major basement clean up.  I don't know about your basements, but we had so much "stuff" that i had saved, Norm filled the back of his pick-up, and will take it to the dump tomorrow morning.  He tells me that there is enough "stuff" to fill the truck one more time!

Anyone want to have  a garage sale?? ;D   I could probably furnish you a small apartment..LOL :D

Larry, I'm glad you are enjoying the zucchini bread.  Does Pat ever freeze it?

We had a brief rain tonight, hope everyone had a nice day, and we'll chat again tomorrow.
