Morning Devotional...

Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said...help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on Thee, and in Thy name we go against this multitude.
2 Chronicles 14:11

King Asa was facing a grave political and military crisis as the vast Ethiopian army challenged him to fight. Completely outnumbered, what was he to do?

He put the problem into God's hands. In quietness and in confidence, he rested on the Lord; and in so doing found the necessary strength for the demands of that frightening day (Isa. 30:15).

What an excellent example he has left us.
                                                                                     --G. Hall

We rest on Thee--our Shield and our Defender!
We go not forth alone against the foe;
Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender,
We rest on Thee and in Thy name we go.

I'm sorry that this new thread has been opened so early but due to this early trek to Hamilton, I find I'm getting sleepier and sleepier!

So, until Larry's radiation treatments are finished, I may just have to do this early.

But please continue to post.

Good Night Pat

Thank you for the devotional. How important it is for all of us as Christians to put everything into the Lord's capable hands.  That has been so important to me in this past year planning for this move. I ask him for what I thought I need in the way of a home , He gave me exactly the place I asked Him for, right next door to my youngest son and the g-kids. I asked Him to provide a job that would meet the needs that He knew I would have when I got there, He did. the job is still available waiting just for me. I put it all in His hands and He supplied me with much more than I asked for.
I even thank Him for lowering the cost of the truck from the original quote I got in May by over $400. He is my provider Jehovah Jireh.

Good Night all

Sorry I am a little late for yesturdays post about the budha.

This is what was in my daily devotion:
Proverbs 16:1-4
The plans of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are clean in is own sight, But the Lord weighs the motives. Commit your works to the Lord, And your plans will be established. The Lord has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil.

Surrounding us are things that are ungodly, but they belong to Satan. And there sole purpose is to seduce us into wavering from the truth.  They dangle and then entangle us from the scaffolding of unbelief. Did God mean what He said? Doesn't He want us to have fun? Do we really need Him telling us what to do? Absolutely!  Only God can give us a secure, peaceful and perfect future. An eternal future in heaven with Him.

It is good to see everyone posting.
God is so good!!!!

I'm b-a-a-c-k!!    :o

Today -- since late last night -- has been something of a roller coaster of emotions here in our little community.  Our pastor Bev was taken to the hospital yesterday afternoon and, when I was called last night, we knew she was "severely anemic" and had a "very large mass on her bladder" and she would be receiving transfusions to strengthen her for further testing/surgery.

Of course, for whatever reason, my mind became filled with memories of my daughter's illness.  I questioned if this was lack of faith or just God's way of teaching me something I failed to learn with my mother and daughter.

God is so good!  The report came earlier today that the "mass" was malignant.  Well, we prayed God's will be done ... and I was praying that whatever lesson I needed to learn from this (and seemingly failed to learn before) would be quickly learned and that Bev wouldn't have to suffer just so I could learn it.

This evening, the word came that that report of cancer was in error ... they will be doing surgery tomorrow and from that a biopsy will be sent to the labs for diagnosis (this could take a few days).  Bev's blood oxygen levels were well above "normal" which is good (and a surprise for the doctors), her sense of humor is still intact ... a great plus for some very fearful people around here.  AND God is STILL IN CONTROL!

Tomorrow Bev will have surgery to remove this mass and she is ready.  I believe this will present a great testimony to the grace, mercy, and healing touch of God, and not just for her family or the church family but for this entire area.  Word and prayer requests have gone around the world for Bev ... so will the testimony of God's goodness!

Yes, God is good ... ALL THE TIME!  :D

As a member of the Board of Elders in our church I have been asked to take the classes that meet on Thursday.  Well, God had already told me that I would be doing that, so it came as no surprise when I was called.   ;)  This Thursday I will be here, but for the next two Thursdays I will be out of town so we leave that in God's hands and trust Him to take care of the details.

I'll be here for a while, checking out other discussion areas ... Y'all have a good night's rest and awake to a glorious day in the Lord tomorrow.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Judy McKenna

jANE:  I will be praying for Pastor Bev, that her tests will prove negative.  This in itself is a wonderful testimony as to what God is able to do, far beyond what we can ask or think.

This is another sleepless night for me, and I am asking prayer... actually, I think I will slip on over to the prayer request section, and give you more details. :(

see you over there shortly!
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

Iain

Well folks I don't know whether to say gonight or good morning!

I was impressed with two things written last night.

First - the loving instruction given to our sis Meika. ( Sis it is clear that you are meditating upon good things. Well done lass.)

Second - The hymn ringing in my ears. 'I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold.' I love it.

Iain

'As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.'

Song of Solomon 2:3-4

What a wonderful image we have written for us here in these words. Lovers sitting under the shade of an apple tree. There is nothing sweeter to the soul than to be in the company of the One whom our soul loves.

Not only does our Beloved provide the company, He also provides the shade and the fruit that is sweet to our taste. He provides the shade from the wrath of God. We are protected because we are accepted in the Beloved.

God hates sin and sin must be punished. Christ bore the punishment due to us for our sins. He is the propitiation for our sins. When I think of a covering I think of the blood upon the mercy seat. God looks down from above and instead of viewing the broken tables of the law, He sees the covering of the blood.
Our Beloved also provides shelter from the storms of this life. We must however abide in Him.

It is our duty and delight to reach up and partake of the ripe fruit. Many a heavy heart has been lifted by looking away from problems and trials and looking upward to the One who alone can solve all our difficulties and who alone can meet all our needs.

Great joy is felt in our souls when we know that all our sins are forgiven. We are to lay aside every weight and the sin which does so easily beset us and we are to run with patience the race set before us looking unto Jesus the Author and the Finisher of our faith.

Has He started a work in your life? Shall He not therefore finish it!

God's forgiveness is greater than our sin.

Christians in Romania are mocked and nicknamed by the heathen as 'Repenters!' Many however count it an honour! Repentance is a duty that must be performed by all Christians on a regular basis.

Where there is sin and the conviction of it, then it must be repented of. Otherwise sin will lie at our door. It is only when we have repented that we can claim with confidence God's forgiveness. It is not only a turning away from sin, but a determination not to return to it.

A determination towards newness of life. A determination to honour God.

A turning from sin and a turning to God. Shunning sin and embracing Jesus.

Having enjoyed His company, shelter, forgiveness, fruit and blessings under the apple tree, He then leads us to His banqueting house.

When I think of a banqueting house I immediately think of royalty. What a privilege it is for sinners to sit at the King's table! Most of us would gladly settle for the crumbs which fall from the Master's table. The King of King's however would have us sit with Him at His feast.

Do you feel worthy of taking your position at the King's table today?

I read this morning the story of the Prodigal son. He returned to the one whom he had sinned against and sought forgiveness and pardon. Such was the father's love for his wayward son, that he met him long before he reached home. He fell on his neck, kissed him, told his servants to give him the best robe, out a ring on his hand and if that were not enough, he ordered a feast in his honour!

The Prodigal deserved punishment. He deserved to be abandoned by his family. He deserved to be left to rot in the wilderness. I am sure that many will feel like that today. We know that we have done wrong. We know that we have sinned against our Father.
We deserve to be punished. We deserve to be forsaken of God. We do not deserve any favour.

Our Heavenly Father however looks upon us in love. He sees in us the reflection of His own Beloved Son. He sees that the punishment that we so readily deserve has already been met on Calvary.

He cannot and will not punish the same sin twice. He sees that another took our place.

Each day He bids us to come into His banqueting house to feed our needy souls. His Word is our meat and drink. We will never be short of the finest of the wheat.

If we hunger it is because of our own foolishness and laziness. The Bible has all we need and more. Each morsel is served in love.

How often have we been lifted up from the depths by 'unseen hands' to feast on manna from Heaven?
His Word bids us to come to the feast. To open our mouths wide and He shall fill it. Be not afraid dear brother or sister. The invitation is sent to you not from me but by the Hand of the King Himself.

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy and eat; yea come, buy wine and milk without price. Wherefore do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your labour for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

Finally my beloved friend when you have eaten your fill and your soul has been satisfied to the limit. When you can truly say, 'my cup runneth over.' Then my friend look up and read the banner above you.

It's written in His own fair hand and says simply, 'I LOVE YOU!'

LOL

Your brother in Christ

Help Needed to Find Hymn

Alan who lost his mother the other night over in England is looking for a hymn for the funeral.  He says it's called "Going Home" and has some words like...

"Going Home, going home now my work is
done"

Do any of you have any ideas?  The funeral is on Friday and they are trying to type out the words for the hymns.

"Click for Waterloo Wellington, Ontario Forecast"

Papa John

Pat, I'm sorry I can't find that song, Going Home.  It sounds like a very appropriate song for the funeral.

I appreciate the good devotional thoughts for today.  I often think about people who do not ask for God's help in their trials and times of need.  I like the song, "I Need Thee Every Hour."

Great devotionals again today!  Just imagine getting to sit at the table with Jesus!  What a glorious thought!

I had a great swim today.  Neither Beth nor Darrel went with me, so I did four extra laps.  Now I need to get busy and get my work done!  There is never an end to the stuff needing doing, is there?

I hope all of you have a wonderful day today, and Pat, you get some rest!  We can't have you wearing yourself out!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks Janet!  I'll try!   ;)

I'm just waiting for the Past President to drop in to help me choose a couple of photos for the newspapers around our area on the opening of a new Trail.  I took so many photos and really don't know which to choose.  The Press Release is done and now when the photo is chosen, we'll send it via email to the Newspapers!  Isn't this electronic age something else?

After he leaves, I'll try to have a lie down.  I thought I would this morning but then this fellow decided to come over so I've been writing the press release and now I'm putting all of the photos into their own special folders so that it will be easier for him to go through them.

Must go but just wanted to drop in and say, "Hi" and also to say how precious your devotional is today, Iain.

I really like that hymn as well, Papa John.  I'll have to fix it up in a post and we can all sing it together in here! ;)

"Click for Waterloo Wellington, Ontario Forecast"

Janet

Jane, since you didn't post a request in the prayer thread, I am giving you these verses here which I think may be helpful to you, your Pastor Bev, and others who are praying for her at this time.

In the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock.

And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me; in His tent I will offer sacrifices and shouting of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

I pray that in this her day of trouble, the Lord will show Himself strong in her behalf, and lift her head!  Thank you, dear Lord.

Pat - if anyone would know it would be Chris. He may not be finished work yet. Sounds like and English football chant to me!

Pat

Actually, Iain, when I was doing some searches, I found just that!  Football Chants!  HAHAHAHA!

I did find a couple of hymns though so sent Alan the words.  It may be a hymn known only over in England so that's why we're not familiar with it.

I am just finishing up reading all the posts.  My daughter, Elizabeth is bugging to go for a walk, so I had better hurry with this post.

Pat I have looked for that hymn in some of Mom's old hymn books.  No luch, there are 2 people at church who may be able to help and I will call them today.

Iain good message.  Do you know the chorus "His Banner Over Me is Love"?  it would fit.

Ruth Ann we had the children using banners (flags)  at easter waving them periodocially during the service, it was beautifully done.

Judy Mc  I am sorry you are having trouble sleeping.  Is there anything the Dr can do to help?  It seems to be happening to often.

Janet Good going with the extra laps,  that is a good way to stay healthy and strong.

Jane I am glad thigs have turned out the way they have for your daughter.  We give God the glory in this and all answered prayer.

Pat there is a song by Bob Carlisle about falling down see if you can find it in the net, it is called "we Fall Down, We Get Up."  The message in that song is powerful.

Well everyone I am off for my walk, will be in later,
Love JudyB

We've opened a thread for posting photos of these machines.  I started it out by posting a photo of Jack on his trusty old "two-stroke" that he used to ride into Belfast City Centre where his Police Station was located back in Northern Ireland.  I'm sure I could have run faster than that little bike went!!!

On the seat of the bike is our eldest son who is now 40 years old (this October) and is our Webhoster for Christian Photographers!  He's just  under a year old in the photo!

Check out this thread[/b].  Pinkie has shared quite a few photos of her bikes with us and Jeanne has as well (not Jeanne's bikes but her photos!).

Pat, I may be able to help with the "Going Home" lyrics. I immediately remembered a song I used to play and the melody, as well, that had those very words in the refrain.

I have a database of songs in my collection - I'll try to check for it (my database is still incomplete, so I may not have it in the database yet) when I get home.

I inherited a number of old hymnals and other songbooks from my grandparents, my parents, and from my great-aunt and uncle who used to be Methodist song evangelists about the turn of the 1900s.

I haven't been here since I opened here last night with Jane.I have been is some of the other threads.

I have been so busy this morning with the remains of my packing and stacking all the stuff for the dump neatly outside. The only things left to pack is the 4 drawers in the bathroom and the dishes I am using, of course I stillhave 3 Bibles out here and there, those will be last and go with me.

I just saw the stangest thing on the TV. It was a dog laying on a table with an umbrella (brolly) Attached to something, maybe his collar or a harness. Weird. My dogs would go crazy trying to get it off. Well perhaps the unbrella was attached to the table. who knows.

Hi everyone.  Once again I am a bit late getting here today.  I read the postings this morning before it was time to leave for the hospital but didn't have a chance to post.  It is another warm and humid day here in Georiga but we aren't expecting any rain today.  That is due tomorrow.  I am happy to be able to report that I got up this morning feeling rested and have felt good all day.  The last couple of days were down days for me and I spent a lot of time resting as didn't have the energy to do much else.

Pat is at the beauty shop for a new perm and then we are going out to eat as today is her birthday and she now qualifies for Social Security, although the first check doesn't come until September.  I asked her if she felt older this morning and she said she did. :o :o

Jane, I am glad the news regarding your pastor, Bev, was changed and I know everyone will be praying that the biopsy after surgery confirms the initial findings.  You have been mentioning that she wasn't very well so glad they are finding out the problem and doing something about it.

Judy, sorry to hear that you haven't been resting at night.  You must be really worn out by now.  Hope you are able to rest some during the day.

As we are having everyday, the devotionals are wonderful.  I look forward to reading them everyday.

Pat, I did a search on Google for hymn "Coming Home" and found the same site Chris has given you and it gives the words as well.  It sounds like a very fitting song for a funeral.

Hi Nards, it has been a long time since you posted.  Good to see you posting today.

Janice

Hello my friends,
How are all of you today?  I am writing this without reading your posts today, by using notepad.  Easier to keep from losing it this way!  I will catch up with you all later.  I just know you have some gems for me!

I am feeling stronger now and doing real well, Thank the Lord!   I saw the doctor this morning.  He says I can eat anything I want now, but keep on eating    s – l – o – w.  Actually that's the only way I can eat.  After he fixed my esophagus and tummy, it is impossible to eat fast. And I get hiccups quite often even yet, when I swallow something.  My appetite is still very poor, therefore I have lost 7 ½ pounds since coming home from the hospital a week ago this evening.

I just wanted to check in with you today, and say thank you for your prayers for me.  Apparently I had a huge hiatal hernia, and my tummy was going through it quite a lot.  That was why he said surgery was urgent soon.

I look forward to catching up with all of your news and the devotionals.  Thanks for being there!

Love to all,   Janice

PS...Earl is doing well too.  I finally got him to try the crushed ice, Pat!  I had a lot of that myself for the first several days I only wanted something cold in my mouth.
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

Marilyn

Hello Janice: I am so glad that you arfe getting better and that old hernia is gone. Welcome Back. Take your time and catchup with us in your own time. We love you and are still praying for you and Earl.

It's time for supper, so this will have to be short but I'll be back later.  ;D

We had some lovely rain today and then it cleared up about 2:00 this afternoon and now the sun is shining.  Gene's truck is at the mechanic's getting a new motor for the windshield wipers and on Friday a man from Sears will be here to fix the brakes on his riding mower.  Seems like the outflow of money just never ends!  :o  But praise God it's there to use.   :D

Pat - you probably have all the words and music you need by now.  Nevertheless, my memory tells me that the music to "Going Home" is from Antonin Dvorak's "New World" symphony.  The words were composed later by someone else and later became a somewhat popular balad.

Etta Sue

Good evening everyone!

Dark and gloomy here and it shouldn't be.  The news on TV is sad.  Seems a lot of people have lost a lot of their possessions due to all this rain in Indiana.  We never know how fortunate we are until we hear how others have been effected by all this rain.  And we are to get more rain tonight.  The ground is saturated already so there is no where for the water to go.  All the waterways....which are small...are flooded out of their banks and as I said before, some people are flooded out because of all the sudden rains.  Kokomo, north of me, got 9½ inches of rain in one afternoon.  Even businesses are flooded.

So please, put Indiana and it's residents on your prayer list.

It seems we aren't going to Dayton until in the afternoon so I will be here in the morning.  Aren't you people so happy????

JudyB

I have just listened to the music to Going Home.  It is absolutely beautiful as are the words. :)

We are having a beautiful sunset here and my camera is at my son's.

My daughter decided to make bread tonight for breakfast in the AM.  In doing so she took out enough to make muffins.  Good thinking but not realizing that doesn't work with yeast breads when they haven't been kneeded!  Oh well It is a learning experience!

Have a good night folks, I am going to bed early with a book.  See y'all in the morning.

Janet it is good to see you back!

Janet

Janice!  Welcome back!  I am so happy your surgery is behind you, and now you can look forward to getting better and better.  We missed you!  Glad to hear that Earl is doing well, too.  Take your time, let your body heal, we will still be around when you have time and energy for us.

I just added a request for prayer for Beth again.  It amazes me how good an attitude she keeps with all the problems she is having.

Larry, it is SO good to read that you are feeling better today, and give your sweet Pat (with her new perm!) a hug for us and wish her a very blessed and happy birthday!

Talk to you all tomorrow! (if not sooner!  ;))
