Morning Devotional...

I am like a broken vessel.
Psalm 31:12

David had passed through some devastating experiences and felt like a broken vessel.

Such a vessel is not worth much. It was of some value, perhaps great value, earlier, but now?

The potter had molded it to his pleasure yet something had come in to destroy his labour. The broken vessel seems fit only for disposal.

Sometimes believers feel like this too, especially after they have experienced sin or trauma in their lives. The work of the great Potter is marred.

Yet He is able through great grace to put us together again to His glory.
—Roy Hill

Cleanse Me
(Click to hear music)

Search me, O God, and know my heart today;
Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts I pray.
See if there be some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from ev'ry sin and set me free.

I praise Thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin;
Fulfill Thy Word and make me pure within.
Fill me with fie where once I burned with shame;
Grant my desire to magnify Thy name.

Lord, take my life and make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart with Thy great love divine.
Take all my will, my passion, self and pride;
I now surrender, Lord--in me abide.

O Holy Ghost, revival comes from Thee;
Send a revival--start the work in me.
Thy Word declares Thou wilt supply our need;
For blessings now, O Lord, I humbly plead.

Hi everyone.  I have about 5 minutes before I need to leave to pick up my neighbor to so to the men's Friday coffee at the senior center.  We have a busy day planned.  I have to go to the grocery store again this morning as Pat remembered some items she didn't put on the other list that I used yesterday.  Then shortly afternoon our friends from Washington, DC will be here to spend the afternoon and then go out to eat with us.  So I will be busy must of the day.

I am so sorry to read Al's message concerning Ruth Ann breaking her hip.  She certainly didn't need this (suppose no does need it) but with her many responsibilities that will be so hard for her.  I hope she isn't in too much pain.

Jane, it is great to see you so excited about your trip.

Janet, that certainly isn't a good number.  Hope you will see your doctor soon and do something to get that number down.

Well, it is time to leave for coffee.  Pat thanks for the devotional this morning.

JudyB

Good morning everyone!

God is Good --------All the time!

I am not working today and enjoyed a sleep in, (up at 8:00 not 6:30).  The  weather is wonderful, a little humid but no complaints here, I love the hot weather.

I heard something at work this week, and wonder if anyone else has heard any scientific backing for this.  The tsunami in the Indian Ocean was so severe that it changed the tilt of the earth, we are spinning with a different degree on the axis.  I am not sure of the correct terminology.  Melaura's teacher also told the geography class this.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Pat that is an awesome devotional.  To know he still uses broken vessels...... Thankyou  Abba Father.

Have a God Day
Judy

Marilyn

Pat your devotional reminds me of a song "You are the Potter, I am the Clay" is one  of the lines but I can't remember any of the rest of the song do you know it?

Be back in just a bit.

Hi all.  Judy - I think we have to think, here, in very, very minute degrees.  Any change in tilt caused by movement of tectonic plates beneath the surface, even if that movement is relatively major, is extremely small (maybe 0.000001 percent, or even much less).  If that were not so, the change in tilt would cause immediate, huge, disastrous changes in climate - we'd all be unable to avoid noticing them, to say the least.  You think Noah's flood was something?  If our tilt changed at all significantly, that flood would be peanuts comparitively.  Besides, our God IS[/u] in control!

karmat

I also heard about the "tilt."  I think that it is speculative at this point, simply because there is no reliable way to prove it.

Marilyn, is the song you are thinking of "Have thine Own Way, Lord"

Have thine own way, Lord,
Have thine own way
You are the Potter, I am the Clay
Mold me and make me
After your [forgot this word]
While I am yielded
[something something something]

Don't forget to pray for Ruth Ann!

Laters!

Nita

Good morning all.  I was looking forward to being able to sit outdoors again for my morning coffee.  I was up at 6, and no sunshine.  Still not out, and a little cool for me, so I had coffee indoors with Ty and Rocko at my feet.

Jane, I was tickled at all of your posts yesterday.  I'm glad you're excited about seeing your girls.  This is so good for you.  I know it'll be a time of joy and bonding, or REbonding for you all.  Wouldn't that be something if you ended up living in Mexico?   Rene and Jim (my daughter and sil, are in Puerta Vallarta on vacation now.  Me?  I'll never get far from Coos Bay probably. lol

Poor Ruth Ann.  She's had so much, and stays so busy.  I'm praying she heal quickly, and that her resting time will be with an increased awareness of the Presence of her Healer.   Bless you, dear lady.

Janet and Marilyn, I've been taking Lipitor for a couple of years.  It did bring my cholesterol levels down.  I take COQ-10 also.  Supposedly the statins can deplete your system of this.  I haven't had increased muscle weakness or pain.  Back pain and hip pain, but that's an old problem, so can't blame Lipitor.

Marilyn, the song you were thinking of is something about, "change my heart, o God.  Make it ever true.  Change my heart, o God. May I be like You."  Then it goes into You are the potter, I am the clay, etc....      Is that the one?

Larry sounds like you have a full day planned.  Have a blessed day.

Judy, I'd heard that too about the tsunami.  Thanks, Al, for clearing that up. :)

edit:  I see Karmat came in while I was typing.  Yes, that's another song where Potter and clay are mentioned.  Much older than the one I posted too.  I've always loved that song, Karmat.

Karma I know that one too. But it is  the one you spoke of Nita. Karma that line is It is "mold me and make in in thine own special way"

I heard about the tilt too that it was something like .002 %.

Nita I don't see any sun here either. I hadn't heard that about Co-q 10.

Hey Al I went to the Tennessee  discussion on SN and it says that RuthAnn broke something in her foot and would be in a cast for  a couple of weeks before the can do any more about it. Have you heard anymore form her?

Thanks SO much for the morning devotional this morning.
It touched my heart deeply. Because I am feeling really broken this morning.
God is teaching me in a much deeper place that "ALL MY FOUNTAINS ARE IN HIM".
That the ONLY place I am going to find the LOVE I deeply need is "IN HIM"
It is really easy to say and quote the Scriptures on God's Love.
But "DO I TRULY BELIEVE" that HIS love is enough.
Thanks for the poll on CP...It has caused me to try to participate more.
God Bless you all.

First of all, thanks to everyone for the lovely comments about my devotion (Psalm 103), my grapics and my 'food for thought's.

Jane ~ You go, girl!  You sure made my heart smile with all your posts.  I could read your enthusiasm in getting to be with your daughters and grandkids.  AND living in a condo in Mexico....how cool is that?  You go, girl!

Janet ~ That is a high number.  Been there, done that.  I have been on about every medicine for lowering my cholesterol and been on the diets and still my numbers were high.  Last August I started taking Vytorin.  First test showed my cholesterol down to 210....three months later, it was down to 167.  And I eat what I want...no diet.  And I know I sure don't exercise like you do.  Vytorin is two drugs...Zocor 40 mg and Zetia 10 mg.  Zetia attacks the fat in your stomach before it gets to your liver.  If I have any side effects from taking it, I am not aware of it.  But it sure makes me feel good that my numbers are where they should be.

Ruth Ann ~ Hip or foot...regardless, I am praying you are in no pain and that you will heal like a snap of your fingers.  You certainly don't need this on your plate also.

Larry ~ Yes, stay in out of this heat!  It is in the mid 90's here.  That is enough.

Marilyn ~ I realize that Thursdays are your big day for working.  So let Friday's be a day to take time for yourself.  You deserve it.

GeriJean ~ We all have one of those days once in a while.  I am praying God works a miracle in you and mends your brokenness.

Nita ~ I like thinking of you drinking your coffee with Ty and Rocko at your feet.  Bet they are great foot warmers.  Do they nibble at your toes?

Al ~ I hadn't heard about the 'tilt'.  But I agree.  We would need a bigger ark than Noah built if the world 'tilted' very much.  And God is in control.

Karma ~ I wish I could remember words to songs....not in me.  God didn't give me that talent.  I like the music...words, I just can't remember.  But I am doing better.  I can sing a lot of songs at church now without looking at the words....well, not all the words.

Judy B ~ Do give Melaura a hug from Etta Sue.  I have missed reading about her.

Sarah ~ One good thing about getting home from work at 2:30 a.m. is it isn't as hot as 2:30 p.m.  Are you doing EMT work?  Great to see you posting.

Well, for a person that was going to get online and off as soon as possible, I sure didn't.  I have been online 4 hours and not done yet.  Whew!

I started an afghan to crochet for the Assistant Childrens Pastor at church.  Matt and Dana are getting married in September.  She said her colors were bright colors.  So I am using red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet and black.  Think back to your Crayon box of 8 colors.  Then I callled Matt.  Bright colors to Dana meant burgundy, rust, mustard, hunter green, dark blue and plum (deep colors).  Well, I have already purchased the material.  So they are getting what I am making.  They will like it because it will be long....Matt is 6'3", Dana is 5' 10".

Gotta go.  Getting hungry!

Musician:  George C. Stebbins, 1846-1945

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray!
Power, all power, surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Hold o'er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit 'till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me.

HYMN HISTORY:

A young woman sat in a prayer meeting over eighty years ago. She was so pressed down by the weight of despair that she was hardly able to concentrate on what the speaker was saying.

Adelaide Pollard had a burden for the continent of Africa and was convinced that God wanted her to go there as a missionary. She had been on the very point of sailing away but then had to cancel everything, because the necessary funds just couldn't be raised. You can imagine her disappointment.

As she sat there the words of a prayer, often uttered by an old lady she knew, came into her thoughts: 'It's all right, Lord! It doesn't matter what you bring into our lives; just have your own way with us!'

In a moment her burden had lifted as she bowed in submission to the will of God.

Running home that night she meditated on the story of the potter, recorded by Jeremiah:

'Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand oft he potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.'
Jeremiah 18:34.

These words seemed to fit Miss Pollard's own life and experiences exactly.

Adelaide Pollard had been born in Iowa in 1862. She had been well educated and for several years taught in a girl's school. She also had a talent for writing, both prose and poetry, and produced many religious artides, as well as a few hymns.

But her real concern was for the lost. She longed to see them reached with the message of Christ Jesus. Eventually, she began a ministry in Bible teaching and, travelling widely throughout the United States, spoke to numerous groups and churches.

Miss Pollard was also passionately interested in foreign missions. For a while she taught at the Missionary Training Institute at Nyack, New York and hoped that she would, herself, be a missionary one day. However, now it seemed that God, who had been with her all her life, was suddenly deserting her.

'But,' she thought, 'perhaps my questioning of God's will shows a flaw in my life, so God has decided to break me, as the potter broke the defective vessel, and then to mould my life again - in His own pattern,'

As she bowed in humble consecration before God, the words of a poem took shape in her mind, and she wrote:

Have Thine own way, Lord!
Have Thine own way!
Thou art the potter;
I am the clay.
Mould me and make me
after Thy will,
While I am waiting,
yielded and still.

Adelaide Pollard had learned that even Christians can be self-centred, self-possessed and self-willed. Even when doing God's work, like her planned trip to Africa, she had to be careful lest it be done in the wisdom and strength of self.

In God's own time he allowed her to go to Africa. She also spent several years in England during the first World War, returning later to her travelling ministry in the USA.

She continued to speak publicly until the age of 72 when, on her way to yet another meeting, she was taken ill in a railway station in New York City and died soon after.

The world will always have cause to be thankful for the life and ministry of that frail little woman who wrote:

Have Thine own way, Lord,
Have Thine own way;
Hold o're my being
Absolute sway.
Fill with Thy Spirit
Till all shall see
Christ only, always,
Living in me.

BIBLE PASSAGE:

Jeremiah 18:6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

Thank you, Pat, for the story of "Have Thine own way, Lord."  Oh that we could more easily become submitted to Him.  It's hard to break those who are so stiff and hard as we are.

Well that isn't the song I was thinking of it must be the one Nita was talking about. Or maybe a combination of the two. Who know's what I was thinking hahaha

Janet

I have had another busy day today!  First the weight room, then by the Barnes' to see if they needed anything, then my friend Pat, Abby and I went to Liberal, and we made a day of it!  In fact, we just got home a little while ago.  One thing fun we did was go to the Etcetera Shop--a ministry of the Mennonites that resells clothing, books, dishes, etc.  I was looking fo things to add to the "dress-up" box for family reunion, and boy!  Did we hit the jackpot!  ;D  The only problem is that it is very hard to find things for little boys to dress up in; but I did find a couple of hats.  We got a whole bunch of scarves of all kinds for 10c each, and several dresses and a pair of gold high heel shoes for $1.00 each, also a big set of cheerleader pom-poms.  So they will have fun with all that stuff.

We ate lunch at the Salty dog, and had stuff to do at Walmart.  I was disappointed (again) because their machine where you get the digital prints done from your card was out of order.  So I was only able to get Abby's pictures, but she was happy.

About the cholesterol-----I talked to Kristi, my exercise guru today, and she thinks the number was much higher because I had just come from an hour and a half of hard exercise.  She said that gets your blood moving, and stirs up everything in it, thus you get the highest possible reading.  She suggested I ask my doctor for another three months to try to get it down without the statins, and next time I go for the blood tests, to go after fasting, resting and drinking lots of water.  Sounds sensible to me!

Yes, I know the statins deplete the coQ10 in our systems, and Lipitor does many harmful things.  It even causes changes in the brains of some people, causing them to be misdiagnosed as having Alzheimer's Disease!  If I can't get it down with other products, I will ask about the combination you mentioned, Etta Sue.  Gotta do something, I guess.  :P  I have been taking Salmon Oil to help with it, along with the Cholest-Off, and watching my diet, besides all the exercise. Sumpin oughta work!

I am ever so sorry to hear of Ruth Ann's accident.  And I will redouble my prayers for that dear lady.  This is one of those things that tempt me to ask "WHY, Lord?"  But I know God loves Ruth Ann with a love beyond comprehension and that He will keep her life in His capable hands.

Jane, thanks for being first to put the words to Have Thine Own Way.  I know many, many hymns by heart, don't think I have forgotten one that I learned from the time I was a small child, and I love them.  I really love the praise choruses, too, though.

My little girl is really missing Mom and Dad.  I'm surprised how homesick she is for them, as she usually never wants to go home.  Maybe just knowing they are far, far away in Alaska makes it harder for her.  She is begging to call them, and we will, tomorrow night when they are on land.  To call them on the ship would cost $8.95 per minute! :o :o :o

Time to go check my emails!  See you later!
