Play to Win

"Who is he that over cometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?"
(1 John 5:5)

I've often heard people say, "It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game." That's nonsense. If you play the game right, you'll win!

Any coach will tell you that part of playing the game right is having a winning attitude. That's what God wants us, as believers, to have. He wants us to have so much faith in Him that we expect to whip any obstacle the devil brings our way. He wants us to expect to win at the game of life.

We don't always come by that attitude easily. We're so accustomed to losing that we have to totally change our way of thinking if we want to have a winning mind-set. In Ephesians, the Apostle Paul told the Church to renew their minds. They needed to change their attitudes, to renew their minds to the fact that Jesus has overcome the world.

If you haven't already, you need to do that too! You need to develop a glorious sense of confidence that says, "Hey, devil, I'm going to be victorious and there's not a thing you can do to stop me!"

"But, Janet, you don't know the kinds of problems I'm facing."

I know I don't, but Jesus does and He said you should "cheer up" because He can give you peace in the midst of tribulation. He said that when Satan comes against you with everything he has, you should take heart because He's already beaten it-- Jesus has already overcome it and so can you!

First John 5:5 puts it this way, "Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?"

Do you know what that scripture means? It means that if you are a born-again believer, you have an absolute right to be a winner, to overcome every aspect of this evil world. Think about that. Meditate on it. Start developing a winning attitude today!

Hi everyone.

Janet, that is a great devotional.  I had to think to myself in today's society we are hearing just the opposite that we shouldn't emphasize winning as someone's feelings might be hurt.  As I think of this attitude it must please satan a lot as it isn't what God wants for us.

I see we have had some very busy people here.  We did have a very good time yesterday with our friends from the DC area.  They got here around 2 pm and stayed with us until about 8 pm.  During that time we did go out to a buffet for dinner and they really seemed to enjoy it.

Don't have anything on the schedule today so will do some computer research on trying to line up some programs for our PC User Group.  It is warm here today so think it will be a good day to stay inside as much as possible.

Hope everyone has a great day.

You're devotion is right on, Janet.  God does want us to be winners.  Actually, in Him, we are winners, we just never step up to the podium to get our prize!

Bernard is having ot work this morning, but htis afternoon, maybe we can go somewhere adn take some pictures.

Have a great day!!

Janet you devotiional is "right on" for me this morning. I really needed that , to tell satan that I will be victorious.

Last night the grand kids told me that their uncle Langdon (my dil's sister's husband) was hit bey a car and  has 6 staples in his head, broken pelvis, one leg and an arm. Seems he left a note for  his wife of some sort saying good bye, he was drunk ( he has and alcohol problem) They don't know if he stepped in the the car's path or was stumbling around out in the street. I will post a prayer request in the proper place shortly.

Had a good visit with the children and that is why I wasn't online last night.

The prayer request is HERE

Those are some great thoughts, Janet - thanks for them!  There's one additional thing, though, that we often forget as Christians.  Before we came to Christ, we viewed some of the things that happened to us as defeats.  In Christ, though, the same happenings are NOT defeats - they're just stepping stones in the path upon which God has placed us - stepping stones that will mold us, shape us, and prepare us for final victory.

I am on the phone with  Ruth Ann as I type this. She did not break her hip. She broke the  bone on the side of her foot and is in a  plaster cast. It is in the heal area where the break is. She says to tell everyone she loves yawl. She is getting on well , Leslie is helping her a lot bringing her what she needs. She says she is not able to walk into where the computer is just yet, trying to keep off that foot as much as possible for the next two weeks.

Thanks for the update on Ruth Ann, Marilyn.  I would think that a broken bone near the heel would be a better alternative to the hip.  Thank God, I have never had a broken bone.  At least, Ruth Ann can be home while she is on the mend.  If this were a gambling forum, we could place bets on how soon Ruth Ann will drag herself back to work.   ::)  Yes, she is a self-professed work-aholic.

Today, Ivalou and I are going to Noblesville to pick up my Hawaiian ring that needed an opal replaced and then we are going to El Camino Real for lunch.  From there is depends on what either of us needs while we are in town.

Tomorrow, after church, is Lapel Tour of Homes.  There are six homes on the tour.  This is always a big hit for this little town.  We have some fabulous homes....old and new.  Mine will never be on the tour, though.   :o

I am so glad you enjoyed the devotional.  And thanks to the person who fixed the link; also to Sue who told me what my mistake was.  I didn't find that until this morning, though, in fact, just a few minutes ago.  Oh, well, as my friend Dee always says "I'll be perfect tomorrow."  ;D  (You do know that tomorrow never comes..........)

Abby is all excited, as we have invited the pastor's children out to play dress-up and have a tea party this afternoon.  I just dug out the formal I wore for my Senior Queen Contest and it isn't all that much too big on Abby.  She loves it!  I may post a photo of her in it later.  I'm sure they will have fun.  Those kids of the pastors' are some of the sweetest, best-behaved kids I have ever been around.  They are doing a great job of raising three world changers!

Beth is giving/selling (I don't know which) Ruffles to a lady she used to work with.  She can't take care of her properly, I think she's tired of her, and she can't take her to New York if she moves there.  We keep Ruffles her in the garage, with the door open, in the summer, so she can have fresh air and hear the other birds.  Right now, she is sitting on the back of a chair here by me, making her "contented sounds".  I really like the cockatoo, but I do not like the mess she creates, so...............Ruffles is going to a new home tomorrow.  sniff!  :'(

I went in and helped with Shares this morning, checked on Oscar and Maxine, now I need to get some housework done.  I'm glad it wasn't Ruth Ann's hip, but so sorry she broke a bone in her foot.  :-* to Ruth Ann.

I will probably be back late this evening again, after I take Bethany, Brooklyn and Caleb home.

hip...slipped    Sounds similar and that's easily done.

Thanks everyone for the updates on Ruth Ann.

Yes, what a great devotional today and thanks Al for your added thoughts as well.  So true.

Remember the saying, "Horses sweat, men perspire, ladies glow"?  Well, I'm glowing so much it's running off me like water off a ducks back!

Thanks so much for the update on Ruth Ann!  I'm very glad it wasn't a hip.  But I'm sorry she broke anything at all.  I guess I coulda heard wrong on the phone.  But, please, everyone, age has nothing to do with it.  Nothing.  Nothing, y'hear.  Nothing.  Wudja say???

Marilyn

I wonder if anyone has been to the prayer forum today to pray for the request I posted.

Whew!  Someone, please remind me next time I invite children out, NOT to keep them for FOUR hours!!  I am beat!  They all had a wonderful time, though.  I told Abby I wish I could hear the stories they are telling their parents about their afternoon!  They played dress-up, had a tea party with tea and cookies, then sparkling grape juice; they picked cherries off the trees, they played with the dogs; we made fruit smoothies (which disappeared much more quickly than they were made!) and they played some Disney games on my computer.  On the way back to town, the oldest one, Bethany, said "Sister Janet, next time we come, we won't be such a pain!"  ;D ;D  And NO, I did NOT tell them they were a pain!  ;)

Well, glowing Pat, what have you been doing to achieve such a glow? hehehe.  Working in the yard, I would guess.  Please do not overdo it!

Darrel cooked a chicken on the rotesserie on his grill, and I took some to Maxine and Oscar.  They said they had never had chicken cooked that way.  Hope they like it, they should, it was really good.

I need to rest a bit, then get Abby showered and her hair washed, so see you good folks later!

I have just returned from delivering the stew that I made to the Pastor's house and visited with Michele for about an hour. Now I have fixed a sdald for me to eat with my stew.  So I will go have my supper.

My my Janet you had a busy afternoon. I took a couple of photos of the kids yesterday playing with my Red Hats, I will post them later.

We've had a full day today, so I am just getting back in here.  Travis, Kristi and I went to the church this morning to help do some of those "little details" that there seem to be so many of for VBS.  Then, we came home, met Bernard, went ot lunch, to Travis to an air museum, ate supper, and now we're home. :)

Hope everyone's day is going well.

About the "tomorrow never comes."  One of bernard's coworkers told him, "Jesus will come today.  Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow never comes, so it has to be today." :)

Etta, if I were a bettin' woman, my bet is that Ruth Ann will go back to work exactly sooner than she should. ;)

Marilyn, I'm on my over "there" now to see what's been posted.

Laters, gators.

Janet

I am tired, think I will close up early tonight and see if I can catch up on my rest.  Beth is making plans to go to New York next month and stay for a while, we will see how it goes..............

We had a big bull snake sunning itself on the driveway a while ago.  :o  Abby wanted to pet it!  Darrel is afraid of all snakes, but they don't bother me, as long as I see them before they see me!  I sort of stepped on this one's tail, and it sure whipped around and hissed at us.  Educational.  We didn't kill it as they are very beneficial, we let it slither off into the weeds.

See you tomorrow after church!

Hello Everyone...

Here it is after midnight.  Andrew and Terena came over mid-afternoon and ended up taking me to their home for supper and then to Cambridge to see Terena's parents.  So I'm just in the door.

Time to lock the door.
