Morning Devotional...

I formed thee...I knew thee...I sanctified thee...I ordained thee.                           Jeremiah 1:5

Many feel that others don't know them. Sometimes it seems that we hardly know ourselves.

But there is Someone who does know us perfectly! Before we were born He knew us. We were born because He formed us.

He has a plan and a purpose for our lives.

Are we trusting our own understanding, trying to convince God to let us do what we think best, or seeking to live the life that God desires for us?

He knows best.

Ask Him.

Trust Him!
                                                                      --Carl Knott

Thou knowest all things and I'm glad 'tis so;
On this I rest through life's strange ebb and flow;
In sickness, happiness or woe,
All that I cannot, need not, would not know, Thou knowest.

'Faithful are the wounds of a friend.'

Proverbs 27 Verse 6

Over the years one of the changes that I have noticed has been the lack of sincere love between the brethren. I remember when I started following the Lord, how I often marvelled at the great love the Lord's people had for each other.

It was evident in their walk as well as their talk. They reflected Christ in their daily lives.

Most houses on our Island have a barn or outhouse behind the main house. Many Christians used these barns as a place where they could be alone with their God. It was a place of seclusion and a place where the world and all its cares could be shut out for a little time. Many a heart-rending prayer ascended from these barns over the years.

In one of our villages their lived two elders next door to each other. There was a great love between them and one of the elders was truly perplexed by the spiritual state of his brother.

Not wishing to hurt his brother, while at the same time concerned about his spiritual welfare he decided he must challenge his brother.

'You are backslidden my brother and are far from the Lord.' The other elder replied with tears in his eyes. 'True brother! How did you know?'

'It was simple my friend! I noticed that the grass had begun to grow between the house your barn!'

It takes courage to rebuke a brother or sister. Let it always be done in love. If you find yourself struggling for strength, then think of the wounds of Jesus and the reason for His wounding.

'Wounded for me, wounded for me
There on the cross He was wounded for me.'

May Christ be exalted.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5

Wounded for me, wounded for me,
There on the cross He was wounded for me;
Gone my transgressions, and now I am free,
All because Jesus was wounded for me.

Dying for me, dying for me,
There on the cross He was dying for me;
Now in His death my redemption I see,
All because Jesus was dying for me.

Risen for me, risen for me,
Up from the grave He has risen for me;
Now evermore from death's sting I am free,
All because Jesus has risen for me.

Living for me, living for me,
Up in the skies He is living for me;
Daily He's pleading and praying for me,
All because Jesus is living for me.

Coming for me, coming for me,
One day to earth He is coming for me;
Then with what joy His dear face I shall see,
O how I praise Him—He's coming for me!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROTHER IAIN!!!

All the best to you, and God bless you.

Pat-praying you have another safe drive this morning.

Karmat-good to see you all got home safely.  Lol, and liked hearing your embarrassing stories too!

It's a good thing we don't need a voice to post, because I seem to have lost mine somewhere.  I've looked all over for it, but it just won't come back  :(.  I thought maybe if I left it alone for a while, it would come back.  But it didn't, and you know, I really miss it!  :'(.

Ok, but anyway, I haven't found another job yet, but I'm busy getting some painting done in our house.  Thank you all for your prayers.  Jen.

Larry Hanna

First of all a belated Happy Birthday wish for Paulette as I didn't get it posted yesterday.

Secondly, Happy Birthday Iain.

Iain, what an interesting story in your devotional thoughts today.  In our cities and suburbs in this country we would never notice the grass beginning to grow as everyone stays in their houses most of the time and there are no outbuildings (although I do have a storage shed in my backyard as do most of my neighbors but sure most of them are filled with junk.  ;)

It is time to go for coffee so will have to check back later.

Pat

Well, I'm back from Hamilton!  We got there early and they took Larry right in.  That's one thing about radiation--the treatments aren't long at all--not as long as the chemo was.

I'm glad that you were gobsmacked, Iain!  I hope you're having a good day!  Thanks so much for the devotional.  It meant much to me today.  And I really love that hymn, "Wounded for Me".  Oh, how we should all realize that it was for us He died on that cruel tree.

Good Morning everyone.
Well guess what. No work for the next 2 weeks, just packing up, resting and trying to stay cool. It is supposed to be 105 F. today.

We had a great message last night on 2 Chron. 7:14 not in realtion to the nation but in relation to ourselves. I sure do hope and pray that the church in McKinleyville is a Bible teaching church. There are some churches that preach everything but the Word of God and I hope that none of yours are that way. I have been so spoiled by my pastor here that anything less will be a big disappointment. All I know for sure is that God himself will place me where HE wants me to be.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, IAIN
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR BROTHER
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, IAIN.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAIN !
This is another Monday morning.  I remember years ago when I was more active, teaching classes, preaching every Sunday, busy every day with study, visiting hospitals, counseling people, and all the things which went with my work, that Monday morning was a time to plan the week and especially starting working on next Sunday's sermons.

Now in retirement my life is different.  On Monday morning I have more time to reflect on my life and to consider the meaning of life and also on how fast time goes by and how short life really is.  Sometimes people will say, "Would you like to go back and be young again?  Would you like to be 25 years old?"  And my thought is "Not on your life."  I am enjoying these extra years God has given me.  How wonderful it is to watch my children build their families and to see my grandchildren getting married.

Ps 90:10  The length of our days is seventy years-- or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.  (NIV)

James 4:13-15  Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money."  Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."  (NIV)

I think that as I grow older I become more aware of how fragile life on earth is and how much eternity holds in store I am looking forward more to finishing my life here and going to be with my Lord.   I think of the song with the lines "This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through."  I understand more Paul's attitude.

Phil 1:23-24  I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;  but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.  (NIV)

Please excuse my Monday morning ramblings.  I hope you all have a great day.

--- Papa John    ;D          <:))))><<

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Good afternoon!!!!  Slow getting here this day.

My sister woke me with a phone call.  Then she mentioned she was going to mow today because it is suppose to rain this afternoon and tomorrow.  So I hopped out of bed, put on my mowing clothes and mowed the yard.  Then weed eated.  Then showered.  Then ate lunch.  Then did my Bible reading.  Then got on the pc with the washer and dryer running behind me and a cup of coffee in front of me.

Iain ~ We are creatures of habit.  I usually read my Bible first thing in the morning.  All the while I was mowing...I thought....don't forget your devotions and Bible reading....don't forget your devotions and Bible reading.  And I didn't.  But my grass is mowed....not high!!!

Tonight I will be going to my niece's with Ivalou to a Jewelry party....even a cook out, too, Robin says.  So I may not get back on here again today.

I pray that every one has a superb day with God being the main focus!

Iain, I'm going to check out those photos as soon as I finish this post, I really enjoyed the other ones!  How long ago did you go?

Etta Sue-sounds like tons of fun, can I come?  I currently own three pieces of jewelry. :D

Pat-how was your drive, very long?

Well, I got some more painting done today, which is good.  Our house is going to look great once it's finished.  Hopefully it will sell then.  I'm off to the gym.  God bless you all.  Jen.

Hello,

     I would like to thank Pat, Marilyn and Nancy for their assistance and welcoming me to this group. Have been a Christian since I was 15. At the time, I really didn't understand the importance of what it meant to turn your life over to The Lord. But, I understand it more everyday. It is beyond my comprehension how The Lord could love me as much as He does, but, it's nice to be able to be numbered as one of His children. I trust him completely with everything that goes on in my life. How could I not trust Him?
     I am 54, single, never been married. Enjoy travelling, photography, eating out, bowling, riding bicycles, collecting records, and horseback riding. Glad to finally be a member of this wonderful group. I would like to add that I was born in Dallas and live in Irving, TX.

Marilyn

Great to see you made it Melvin.

I think I am through packing for today now it is rest time and computer time. I won't be able to be on the computer as much from the new job. Working at the Library made it so easy to sit down at the computers and lurk or post here and on SN.

The dogs are enjoying being in the house all day and not out in the hot weather. Even Happydog who love to be outside has stayed in the house all day when I am home.

We went to Hugoton, met Curtis while he was on his lunch break, sat on the grass and visited with him until he and Lewis got up to get back to work; ran the car through Jeff's new automatic bay.  Boy, it's quite a deal:  Washes the undercarriage, soaps and power washes, spot-free rinses, waxes, rinses again, then blows the car dry!  All touch-free!  And it was money-free to us because they were doing some fine adjustments on it, and Jeff wanted to see if they had it all done right.  The auto bay is brand new, and cost him the big bucks!  Our car sure looked nice when it came out! :)

Iain, I am enjoying your Romanian photos so much.  I was in Cluj and Ocna Mures a few years ago.  We took in lots of clothing and medical supplies, and did medical clinics while there.  The need is so great, especially among the gypsies.

I'm going to watch the news, and hope for some good news for a change!

Oh Hi ms Bice, I hope it is a wonderful day for you.

I do have a a very big question and I have a fear that I will be sad of the answers I will find here.
I think it is written that a Christian is to give all of what is of the earth away and to follow Jesus.
Can we not better help those in need if we have a wealth of things to help them with?
To give away everything because it does not have a worth in Heaven, this I undarstand. But it seem the poor will be given everything in heaven, yes?
??? The devotional does say: trying to convince God to let us do what we think best, or seeking to live the life that God desires for us?
Does he want for us to be poor, and not able to care for ourself? or is it ok to have great wealth and able to help ones in need?

JudyB

WEll I just had the funnyist thing happen!

My young Rotti (Bruno) found a grape that one of the girls dropped and has been tossing it around like a ball!  I have been backed into and shoved sideways and finally I looked.  Silly Bruno!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAIN
Thankyou Iain and pat for the devotionals and the hymn.  Now back to reading all the posts.

JudyB

Meiks.

I think what is being asked of us is that we are willing to loose all for the Lord.  I do agree that if you have some wealth we can then be used to give to those who have need.  If you can go to a church library, see if you can find any books by Larry Burkette.  He is good at explaining these things so we can understand.

Welcome Melvin, I am looking forward to seeing your photos!

That is all for now, going swimming

Love to all JudyB

I'm sorry I was so late posting the birthday greetings and since I wasn't on at all yesterday, it also looks like I completely missed Paulette :-\

Yesterday afternoon we went out to Stony Creek, to Alice's and got a good supply of grandchildren hugs!  It's amazing how much those two have grown since last September.  It looks as though Rachel is going to be even taller than Alice, who is 5' 10". :o

Then when we got back and had supper I had just started to get the computer on when it began to thunder soooo.... It's a good thing I did unplug because there was one severe storm after another all night.  We didn't lose power, but I didn't get a whole lot of rest.  ;D

At work today, we did lose power - just for about a half minute, but we were working on the payroll and everything got all bolixed up.  Finally got it all straightened out after a couple of calls to the software people, but by then I was feeling "yucky" and since there really wasn't  anything more for me to do I came home.  And did nothing but sit around all afternoon.   :-[
