JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

We fear men so much, because we fear God so little.
~William Gurnall~

Morning Devotional...

My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.
Psalm 84:2

God has brought us into His family that it might be a blessing to us.

How badly do you want the fellowship of the Lord and His people?

Ask the missionary.

Ask the invalid.

Ask the traveler.

The psalmist in this psalm wanted it, and wanted it badly!

This morning, on your way to meeting with the Lord and His people, if the children ask, "Dad, do we have to go to the meeting today?" how will you answer? "Yes, we have to go" or, "My soul longs, even faints for it, my heart and flesh cry out for the living God!"
--Rex Trogdon

Great the joy when Christians meet,
Christian fellowship how sweet!

AUGUST!!!  I can't believe it.  It does seem that the older you get, the faster time travels, doesn't it?

Jerry is here with me and we are both ready for church.  He is reading his daily Bible readings.  Ivalou is going with K Don and Barb to Michigan and I felt a little uneasy here all by my lonesome since there was an attempted murder less than 2 miles from me last month.  So Jerry is here to take up the slack!  The girls love it!

Happy August First!  My goodness, school will be starting again soon, doesn't seem possible, does it.  Yes, Etta Sue, not only the days, but the years seem to literally fly past now.

Beth woke up with another terrible headache this morning, so she isn't going to church with us.  Tomorrow morning we will be leaving for Lubbock to see the Neurosurgeon.  Please pray that he will have Godly insight and wisdom into her case, and know the right treatment for her.  Thanks.

I smell bacon!  I think I will follow my nose and find something good to eat!  See you later.

Good Morning Thank you Pat for today's devotional.

This is the day the Lord hath made and I will rejoice and be glad in it.

It is still foggy in the mornings here on California's Lost Coast.  Mostly all day too, but whenthe sun does come out everything is so beautiful. Yesterday I bought a pair of hedge trimmers and started trimming the Daisy bush by my steps. I did make a big hole in the ivy on the back fence right where Happydog jumps up to climb on top. Lots of work left to do trimming things.

When I took him walking a couple of days ago I saw that the Blackberries up the road are getting ripe, there are blackberry bushes all the way up my street to Airport Road. So soon I will be out there picking blackerries for jam. Actually they are Himalayan berries and they sure are good.

Must get ready for church now.

Good morning everyone.  We had a great morning at church this morning.  During August the children get to stay in the main assembly all service.  After the pastor delivers the message we break into groups with the children and have a competition.  Today 2 children from each group had to see how many signatures they could get on their feet.  Different, but the kids loved it.  Our team lost - never mind.

Nice devotional today Pat.  Janet I am sorry to hear that Beth had a bad night.  Thank you for the prayer request.  We will not forget.

Have a great day everyone and catch ya later.

BTW, what's happened to Karma?  I haven't even heard one joke from her at all since I came back.  Has she gone all serious on us?  Just wondering.

Anthony.

Marilyn - when you get through trimming there, then bring it over here - I've got a hedge that needs its top trimmed!  We've got some of those blackberries right in back of our place.  I can walk back there and pick them.  Picked a few yesterday.  They are all gone now.

I just feel like singing while I read the posts in here so here's an old one.

Bringing in the Sheaves
(Click to hear music)

He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.
Psalm 126:6

Words: Knowles Shaw, 1874. Shaw wrote music for these lyrics, as well, but George Minor's tune is universally used today.

Music: George A. Minor, 1880

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Refrain

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds nor winter's chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest, and the labor ended,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Refrain

Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,
Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves;
When our weeping's over, He will bid us welcome,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Refrain

Pat

Good afternoon everyone!

I was about ready to leave for church and had some unexpected company drop in so after a cup of coffee together, I decided to stay home and listen to a tape which I did.  Then Andrew and Terena dropped in with Rebecca as they had to go to Cambridge and now they've just left so it's been a busy morning here.  I'll try to go to the evening service tonight.

Anthony, I miss Karma and Nards too.  Not sure if they are away or not.  Did you know that little Travis is going to have a new baby brother or sister?

Lillie, I don't know the origin of your little quote but it's a good one.

Blackberries...  what memories you are bringing up for me, Marilyn and Al!  I've never noticed blackberries growing in hedges here the way they do in the UK.  And as you all know, Jack and I did a LOT of hiking in the UK over our 40 years of married life together.  Wherever we hiked there were the ubiquitous hedgerows and blackberries growing in the hedge and there would be Jack with only his back showing as he spied blackberries deep within the hedge!  So, I found some thornless blackberry canes here and planted them for him and he did have a wonderful time in our own garden picking blackberries up until his homecall to glory.  I do believe that they were his favorite berry.

I had bacon as well this morning, Janet!  Peameal bacon is just so good and I love it!  I'm not eating bread right now though so it just isn't the same without the toast!  :P

Yes, Etta Sue, AUGUST!  This is really something.  Time is fleeting!

Hi Jerry!

PHOTO CHALLENGES:
Well, with Karma away (I think) and Soni being extremely busy these days, we're not going to introduce a new Bi-Weekly Challenge or a Monthly Challenge during the month of August.  We'll bring the challenges back for the beginning of the month of September.  So just keep on posting those bugs and insects and Comfort photos!  ;D

"Click for Waterloo Wellington, Ontario Forecast"

Sonifo

That sure helps, Pat. Thanks for waiting on the challenges.  Hopefully life will be a less busy, but probably not for us.  School starts up and so does swimming and dance. Getting back on schedule is always hard.

Hope you all have a blessed Sunday.

Soni

Janet

We are home from church, and I called Beth to see if she is feeling better.  Her head is better now.  I walked over there and carried out all her trash, walked to her mailbox to check for mail, as we noticed her insurance premium notice hadn't come.  There was old mail in her box, but not what we needed, so she will call them about it.  We are having her mail brought to our box now as she cannot get out to her mailbox.

Church was good today, pastor taught on the Blessings of God, from Deut. 28.  It is good to know that if we listen and OBEY, God's blessings will OVERTAKE us!  What a mighty God we serve!

I need to fix some lunch, then get a bag packed to go to Lubbock.  I hope we get a motel that has a pool!

Karma, if you pop in, know that we are missing you!

Reflections from the late Founder and President/Chairman Emeritus of
Campus Crusade for Christ International

Christ In Our Schools

Commit yourselves completely to these words of mine . . .  Teach them to
your children
(Deuteronomy 11:18-19, NLT).

Dear friends:

"Do you know what is wrong with your country?"

This pointed question was reportedly asked of then U.S. Secretary of
State Cyrus Vance by my dear, late friend, Dr. Charles Malik, former
President of the United Nations General Assembly. The Secretary
responded that he did not.  "I'll tell you what is wrong," said Dr.
Malik.  "You have taken Jesus Christ out of your universities."

The same is no doubt true of all of America's schools.  Fisher Ames, the
actual writer of the final version of the First Amendment, later wrote
that the Bible must be kept as the number one textbook.  He said that
the Bible was the source of morality and behavior in America.  Biblical
principles permeated public life.

Benjamin Rush, another Founding Father, signer of the Declaration of
Independence and who served in the administrations of three presidents
(Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and John Adams), wrote that if the
Bible is ever removed from the schools, we would suffer from an
explosion of crime!  Spoken two centuries ago, Rush was amazingly
prophetic.  In our day, God, the Bible and prayer have been replaced in
our schools with handguns, drugs and condoms.  The results have been
disastrous.

Our country began a paradigm social shift in 1947 with the infamous U.S.
Supreme Court ruling about "the separation of church and state."  Since
then the nation has been experiencing a frightening trend in social
breakdown.  We are engulfed in a tidal wave of immorality and violence.
Surely, evil has been with us since the Garden of Eden.  But evil's
statistics in the United States were relatively flat until God, the
Bible and prayer were removed in the schools.  The year 1962 was when
the statistics began a sharp trend upward.

Why 1962?  That was the year that the Supreme Court made another
historic, infamous decision, violating two centuries of legal precedent
and tradition, and delivered, with Engel v. Vitale, a decision that
removed prayer from our schools.

The prayer that caused the great controversy was a simple, nonsectarian,
22-word prayer.  Take a look at it and consider what this nation has
lost since its words were declared illegal and banned: "Almighty God, we
acknowledge our dependence on thee and we beg thy blessings upon us, our
parents, our teachers and our country."

America desperately needs an answer to that missing prayer.

Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission
each year until our Lord returns,

Bill Bright

Janet, that was quite a statement from Bill Bright!  Thanks for sharing with a us.

We are having showers this afternoon from the tropical storm.  I am about 80 miles inland and the showers are not too bad.

Our church service was about Wisdom and taken from Proverbs 8.  Our pastor drilled into our heads about being on time for Sunday School.  Said that if we should treat being on time for SS as much as we try to be on time for work.  This is an area in which we are slack.  Most everyone shows up at 10-10:15.  When we should get there 9:45 giving us time to get to class, speak to others and get ready for the lesson.  I didn't get there until 9:55 myself.  Rush, rush.  Just waint until next week! I'll show him!!

Will be in prayer for Beth as she goes to doctor tomorrow.

Sometimes, Pat, we all have to miss church and know that God would rather have showing His love to others right where we are. I'm glad that you stayed for your guests.

Need to get ready to go back for our 5 o'clock study.  Of course, I want to be on time :)
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life.  No man cometh unto the Father but by me.  John 14:6

Al Moak

Thank you Janet for that statement by Bill Bright.  He is RIGHT.  How many of you that check in here have written your congressional representatives about this?  Should we not be requesting specific legislation that clarifies the amendment?  I believe we should be requesting our reps to introduce such legislation.  I urge each of us to make such requests.

Evangelism: Spiritually Worthy

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to
depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father,
"Which," He said, "you have heard from Me."
--Acts 1:4

The task of the church is twofold: to spread Christianity throughout
the world and to make sure that the Christianity she spreads is the
pure New Testament kind....

Christianity will always reproduce itself after its kind. A worldly-
minded, unspiritual church, when she crosses the ocean to give her
witness to peoples of other tongues and other cultures, is sure to
bring forth on other shores a Christianity much like her own....

The popular notion that the first obligation of the church is to
spread the gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth is false. Her
first obligation is to be spiritually worthy to spread it. Our Lord
said "Go ye," but He also said, "Tarry ye," and the tarrying had to
come before the going. Had the disciples gone forth as missionaries
before the day of Pentecost it would have been an overwhelming
spiritual disaster, for they could have done no more than make
converts after their likeness, and this would have altered for the
worse the whole history of the Western world and had consequences
throughout the ages to come. Of God and Men, 35-37.

"Lord, I don't want to be guilty of producing inferior disciples.
Send Your Holy Spirit that I might be empowered to produce converts
with whom You can be pleased. Amen."

Home from church, we are still in Hebrews 11,12, and 13. That is what Pastor is preaching on, Faith a positive attitude and an attitude of faith. The former results in the latter.Gloria was ablolutely thrilled with the message. As always there is something in every message for everyone.

Al I don't think that trimming is going to last all that long. MY left hand is giving me a problem, the Thumb doesn't want to close very well, Uncle Arthur has decided he likes my thumb joint. Years ago some one of my husbands bent my thumb back over my hand and far as it would go. This is the result of that injury. My Doctor gave me Bextra, to replace Vioxx but it isn't helping at all. I still hurt. I am going to talk to my Doctor about Humira for RA. I think maybe Judy Mc may know something about that drug.

Our worship team and the congregation has raised enough $$ to purchase a Power Point system for the church. The song will go up on it and the pastor will use it for his sermon. We also got a new sound system. It has taken  almost a year to raise the money. The worship team would sell coffee, tea and danish before Sunday school, that is how they raised the money.

If That Isn't Love
(Click to hear music)

Dottie Rambo

He left the splendor of heaven
Knowing His destiny
Was the lonely hill of Golgotha
There to lay down His life for me

And if that isn't love
Then the ocean is dry
There's no stars in the sky
And the little sparrows can't fly
Yeh if that isn't love
Then heaven's a myth
There's no feeling like this
If that isn't love.

Even in death He remembered
The thief hanging by His side
Then he spoke of love and compassion
And He took him to paradise

It's got to be love
Then the ocean is dry
There's no stars in the sky
And the little sparrows can't fly
Yeh if that isn't love
Then heaven's a myth
There's no feeling like this
It's got to be love.

Oh... Thank you Pat for such a quick reply...printing out this wonderful piece. I'm humming it right now....can you hear it?

Marilyn:  I have never heard of that drug "Humira"..? it must be an anti-inflamatory, is it?  Do you have R.A. Marilyn?  I sure hope NOT.... if you do, PLEASE, PLEASE see a Rheumatologist....don't fool around with a family physician.  You need a specialist!

I am missing Karma and Nards too....Hopefully all is well with them.

Janet:  Where is Lubbock from where you live?  Oh, I sure am praying that Beth's doctor has some good answers for her.  Goodness, Soni.... school will soon be starting for your family won't it.  I know my grandchildren in Michigan, go back to school around the 23rd of August.

School starts here right after Labor day., but then the children don't get out until the end of June.

Kathy:  When does school start where you are?.....just wondering....

Ria:  Thinking and praying for you today!!  Judy B:  Nice having you back here with us.

Hi everyone.  It has been a busy day of attending Sunday School and church (the choir started singing again this week and if felt good to be back in the choir loft) and then we went out to lunch with our friends to the Chinese place.  I came home and was tired so took a 2 hour nap.  When I got up I couldn't get on the Internet and dealt with some other computer problems (all seems to be working now) and finally got to read the postings here on CP and on SeniorNet.

Janet, hope you have a good trip with Beth tomorrow and you get good news from the doctors.  Know traveling must be a trial for Beth.

Pat, I haven't heard the news today the bombings and that is certainly terrible.  How long will it be before we see the same thing happening in our countries?  I did hear of the increased security alert for New York City, Washington and Northern New Jersey.  How can they protect so many places?

I am going to be brief this evening and will see you all tomorrow.

Sarah

Hi Everyone, I was at a live acting show and dinner yesterday with the North of 40 group from my church yesterday.   I had to drive about an hours drive, but it was worth it.   I was up in cottage country and the show was in a place called The Red Barn.  After I met at my son's place and visited with Shawn & Kim and Kevin and Trish and of course saw my darling twin granddaughters named Jessie and Jaidan.    They are calling me Nana Ruth.   Had a wonderful time! Pat, I'm sorry you couldn't come.  Hope for next time.

Janet, sorry Beth is not feeling well.  Will be praying for her tonight.

Enjoy the long holiday weekend.
