JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Quote of the Day...
     "Posture in worship is too often imposture."
~Thomas Watson~
Morning Devotional...

When He bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, He saith, And let all the angels of God worship Him.
Hebrews 1:6

They...fell down, and worshiped Him. Matthew 2:11

What does it mean to worship?

Originally the Greek word had the thought of prostrating oneself and kissing the feet or kissing the ground at the feet. It symbolized appreciation, loyalty, and submission to the person being worshiped.

Jesus accepted such when He was here. It is still our privilege to worship Him.

Let us do so in spirit and in truth today.
--Donald Norbie

Worship, honor, power, and blessing
Thou art worthy to receive;
Loudest praises, without ceasing,
Meet it is for us to give.

Hail, Thou Once Despised Jesus!
(Click to hear music)

And said, Hail, King of the Jews!
and they smote him with their hands.
John 19:3

Author:  John Bakewell, 1721-1819
Musician:  Rowland H. Prichard, 1811-1887

Hail, Thou once despisèd Jesus! Hail,
Thou Galilean King!
Thou didst suffer to release us;
Thou didst free salvation bring.
Hail, Thou universal Savior,
Who hast borne our sin and shame!
By Thy merits we find favor;
life is given through Thy Name.

Paschal Lamb, by God appointed,
all our sins on Thee were laid;
By almighty love anointed,
Thou hast full atonement made.
Every sin may be forgiven
through the virtue of Thy blood;
Opened is the gate of heaven,
reconciled are we with God.

Jesus, hail! enthroned in glory,
there forever to abide;
All the heavenly hosts adore Thee,
seated at Thy Father's side.
There for sinners Thou art pleading;
there Thou dost our place prepare;
Thou for saints art interceding
till in glory they appear.

Worship, honor, power and blessing
Christ is worthy to receive;
Loudest praises, without ceasing,
right it is for us to give.
Help, ye bright angelic spirits,
bring your sweetest, noblest lays;
Help to sing of Jesus' merits,
help to chant Emmanuel's praise!

On this day, December 7, 1941 over two thousand Americans lost their lives resulting from a sneak attack by the Japanese Empire against our Army and Navy based in Oahu, Honolulu.  I'll remember it as long as I live.  Thousands of mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and other relitives lost their loved ones on that day.

Do you remember where you were on 12-7-41?  I do.  I was living in Wilmington, California aged 14.  Many of my Japanese schoolmates and their families were uprooted from their homes and taken to Manzanar in the desert.  I went into the Service a little over a year and a half later (age 16).

Pat..........

When we think about it, the song......."Hail, Thou once despisèd Jesus!"(Name only), isn't really up to date.  Our Jesus is hated more today, and by millions more than He was then.  Pity.

Chris & Margit Saunders

Lee, you are so right,  " pity"  this word you have used brings to mind Psalm 69 v 20-21, which links in with that solemn and yet joyful Hymn which Pat has posted.

"Reproach has broken My heart,and I am full of heaviness,
I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none,
And for comforters, but I found none,
They also gave Me gall for my food,
and for my thirst they gave Me vinegar to drink."

"Therefore, let us go forth to Him,  outside the camp bearing His reproach.
For here we have no continuing city, but we seek one to come." Hebrews ch 13 v 13-14.

To those outside the Kingdom, He is an enemy, but to we, who love Him, He is our Beloved, our all in all.
Merciful, gracious, loving, if only they knew.
Have a great Lord's day,
regards Chris.

Trials and Pain: Criticism and Abuse

But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel,
even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.
--1 Thessalonians 2:4

"Let not thy peace depend on the tongues of men," said the wise old
Christian mystic, Thomas a Kempis; "for whether they judge well or
ill, thou art not on that account other than thyself."

One of the first things a Christian should get used to is abuse....

To do nothing is to get abused for laziness, and to do anything is
to get abused for not doing something else.

Was it not Voltaire who said that some people were like insects,
they would never be noticed except that they sting? A traveler must
make up his mind to go on regardless of the insects that make his
trip miserable....

One thing is certain, a Christian's standing before God does not
depend upon his standing before men. A high reputation does not
make a man dearer to God, nor does the tongue of the slanderer
influence God's attitude toward His people in any way. He knows us
each one, and we stand or fall in the light of His perfect
knowledge.
The Next Chapter After the Last, pp. 94-95

"Lord, I know this truth, but it's so hard to 'let not thy peace
depend on the tongues of men.' The stinging insects are so annoying!
Give me peace in Your approval today. Amen."

Good Morning Dear Ones.

A Blessed Lord's Day to all and each..

Chris thank-you for a nudge, I am going to get my Thomas a Kempis out and read today. I love his words.  I have used this book many, many times., second to the Bible it is my inspiration.

The sun is shining here in the centre of England. There is a hard frost on the ground however., a wiping the windows morning.
double glazing is only on the front windows and that needs some repair.,  The landlord won't wqant to do that I am certain.  However, I have the heating on and a nice fire on in this room so I praise God for His goodness to me and mine.

Still problems with puter.  The new update doesn't do "photographs" or "tap-in" pictures.  I can't download your profile photographs folks. , Can't afford to spend any more money on this machine so it's upto the Father.

Second Sunday in Advent., I have much reading to do and praising.,  Yes Pat "posture" is important, but the "posture"of the heart towards God is all that really matters.  We can kneel and lift our hands to Heaven to no avail if our love and our thoughts are not directed to Jesus Christ., Thanks Chris also for the scripture references.

"Come into My heart Lord Jesus,
Come into My heart to stay"..

"Stay by me Jesus,
That I may always stay by Thee"...St.Pio.
Peace and Joy
Advent Promise.

Hi everyone.  Mieka, so good to see you were able to post.  We have missed your postings.

Happy 13th Birthday Melaura.

Ria, what a shame that someone would not do the simply act of kindness in getting you a chair to sit in at your church and making the decision for you that you didn't need it.  Sorry about the added pain, which you certainly do not need.  Take care.

Jenny, you mentioned the second Sunday in Advent.  My wife and I have the priviledge of lighting the 2nd Advent candle as a part of our worship service this morning.  We have never done that before.  I will have to not go in with the choir but join them following this part of the service.  I am so excited about singing the "Gloria" this morning.  Can't remember when I have looked forward to anything with such anticipation.

Chis, I don't often comment about it but do enjoy reading the items you post for our consideration.  Are you a minister?

Lee, you comments on "pity" are certainly true.  With regard to 1941, I really have no memory of that day as I was only about 10 months old.   :)

Etta Sue, am looking forward to seeing those pictures from your dinner last night.

It will soon be time to head to church.  The choir is meeting at 9:30 for a quick run through and working on a couple of things before we sing about 11:30 this morning.

Hope everyone has a great Lord's Day.

Carol

I would be getting ready for church but my cough and scratchy throat are giving me fits this morning.  So, I will just do some contemplative reading later.

Happy Birthday to Melaura!  For Lila Mae also!

We have a wooden painted advent candle holder and I forgot to get it ready last week but it is always so special to bring out of storage.

Ria:  Sorry that someone isn't helping you with a chair at church as that is such a small offering that they can do for you.

Nice notes from all - I am just coughing away this morning.  Have a good Sunday.  Carol

Al Moak

Father I pray that You will be pleased today with the hearts of the singers at Larry's church, as well as with their voices (that You have made) and their skills (that You have blessed and nurtured).  I pray that You will come by Your Spirit to that congregation today, and I pray You'll bless each listener with a worshipful heart.  Oh make Your Presence known, blessed Christ.

Good Morning, I love coming here each morning to read the devotional that Pat posts and today Chris has shared with us also. Thank you Chris and Pat.

I have been fighting catching a cold all week and this morning when I woke up I was hurting in the bronchial area of my chest.  After a hot cup of coffee it is subsided somewhat. I haven't made up my mind whether or not I am going to church in this rain as I have been out in the rain every day this week. The nights have been spent with me trying to breathe through my nose and sleepless. So I just may spend the day resting and drinking lots of hot lemon and honey tea.

Mieka: So nice to see your post this morning, I think of you so often. and wonder where and how you are.

Ria, I am so sorry that your church would not give you a niced chair to sit in rather than on the hard bench.

Jenny: Can you receive email yet? I miss our correspondence every day.

Lee, on Dec. 7, 1941 I wasn't quite 2 years old so I don't remember where I was but I was in Lodi, California at my grand parents house.

WEll I will go read the other forums here and then checkm my email.

Happy birthday, Melaura!!!

Lee - I was in San Carlos, California on 12/7/41.  I was only 8 years old, but I will never forget listening to President Roosevelt broadcasting his message.  If the war had gone on another year and a half I would probably have been in it.  Thanks be to our God that we have no war at the moment.  May He keep us from it, but may He also make us brave and righteous as a nation, always ready to stand for Him and for the nation He's given us.

Hello Everyone!

Just popping in to say "Hi" and not much more.  I'm going to my son's for the afternoon.  Janice, my daughter and her family will also be there.  (I might get some photos!)

Congratulations Holland!  What a lovely announcement, Ria.  I'm also a Monarchist. This little girl sounds healthy and it will be nice to see a photo of her when it's in the paper, Ria.  Maybe you could put a link in when you see one online.  I bet she's beautiful.

It was so nice to see Mieka's post.  This was the biggest surprise of the day!  Let's remember to pray for our sister on a daily basis.

There's a Song in the Air
(Click to hear music)

"She gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." Luke 2:7

Words: Josiah G. Holland, The Marble Prophecy and Other Poems, 1872

Music: "Christmas Song," Karl P. Harrington, 1904

There's a song in the air! There's a star in the sky!
There's a mother's deep prayer and a baby's low cry!
And the star rains its fire while the beautiful sing,
For the manger of Bethlehem cradles a King!

There's a tumult of joy o'er the wonderful birth,
For the virgin's sweet Boy is the Lord of the earth.
Ay! the star rains its fire while the beautiful sing,
For the manger of Bethlehem cradles a King!

In the light of that star lie the ages impearled;
And that song from afar has swept over the world.
Every hearth is aflame, and the beautiful sing
In the homes of the nations that Jesus is King!

We rejoice in the light, and we echo the song
That comes down through the night from the heavenly throng.
Ay! we shout to the lovely evangel they bring,
And we greet in His cradle our Savior and King!

Hi everyone!!  Trying to quickly put the finishing touches on the church's Christmas program.  Every year, I say, "Never again will I be in charge of a program" and every year (excpet for last year) there I am.   Oh well.

Etta -- Can't wait to see the pianist playing the piano!   :P :P :P :P :P :P :-* :-* :-* hahahha

Congrats, Holland, on "your" new baby.

Lee --  Let's see, in 1941, I wasn't even a twinkle in my parents' eyes yet because my daddy was only a year or so old, and my mom wouldn't be born for 4 more years.  BUT, I "remember" it in the sense that it was a tragic day for many people, and I regret that our "patriotism" today isn't as strong as it was then.  Of course, many areas in our country aren't as strong.

Al, you said
