JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

5.  When we get tangled up in our problems, be still.
God wants us to be still so He can untangle the knot.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he's "letting" us rest, but he has been a real sweetheart.  He's a great kid :)  Of course, he is asleep at the moment.  When he wakes up, things may change :-)

I guess it is time to move on from music in church. :)  But I do have another thought. HAHA

First, Lee........your post said it all.  It was perfect.  That is exactly the kind of worship I want to be involved in.  I love the thought that Jesus could sing with me.  Or the angels.
And I wouldn't want to  sing anything that I couldn't sing before the throne.....because, actually, that's just what we're doing.

Al.......yes.  That's what I wanted to say. :)

Poor, poor Fast Eddie.  Oh, you dear.  NaNaNa.....Naana???  Not wonder you are bored with this.  Is that actually in a worship song?  I, too, sometimes feel that I am in the elder saint catagory......because I don't like the noisy style of worship.   I remember when I got saved,   the music songs were accompanied by an acustic guitar player. (well, he wasn't acustic, but his guitar was) So simple, and so beautiful. No can of worms, dear brother, just exploring who we are......all children of God.  You go right ahead and say what you like.  We are family.

Marilyn, I confess to getting emotional too.  Only for Jesus, though.  I'm not an emotional person, but I pray I never move past getting emotional about loving on Jesus.  That's my nature.  Others reach deeply within and are silent.  Both are worshiping the Lord.  I am both, I think.

Good posts about music.  I've been blessed by them all.    We are as varied in our expressions as the beautiul colors and shapes of the flowers our Lord made.  Aren't we colorful?  I'll leave any comments on our shapes to another discussion. HAHA

NO, Pat!  Let's don't talk about the best translation of the Bible.  I've been to too many chat rooms (when I was first looking for CHristian sites)where that was "discussed".  It was terrible. Being "right" was the most important thing.   But I like the NKJ, Message, LB, Ampified,  and others. :)

A good worship leader is just as in touch with his/her audience as the pastor is during delivery of the sermon.

A bad worship leader has a plan that he/she concocted up during the week and follows the plan in SPITE of the Holy Spirit trying to direct him/her in the best way of worship for that particular service.

Fast Eddie, as a guy what plays a little in a worship band of a sort, I am so sorry for your experience.  When worship becomes boring, the leaders desperately need to reconsider their approach - REGARDLESS OF THE MUSIC STYLE.  I am all with you in that the "Nanana" songs  - which are GREAT at youth camps, really don't fit in an adult worship service, except maybe every now and then as an "ice breaker" or "loosen upper".  We have gotten so warped and wrapped up in the idea of "worship music" being a style that we have forgotten how to lead a congregation into the presence of a Holy God.  Worship has nothing to do with a musical style - it is a heart condition.  I would love to just jackslap a few "worship leaders" who have no more true heart for worship than they do.  LEAD US TO GOD, dude!!!!!!!  Don't sing me a song - show me the path to the throne.

Okay.  That's MY soapbox, and I know it's a little different than the rest of the discussion, but there it is. :)

Music in church.  I read some about this before rushing off to church this morning.  About loud, repetive music.

Uh, I go into the Christian Life Center.  The Praise Team comes on stage.  With seven singers on stage is the piano, the electronic organ, a couple of guitars, a harmonica and electric drums...yes, electric drums.  Now I am not a musical person.  I maybe know the words to two songs...the chorus to 'Jesus Loves Me' and 'Row, Row, Row your Boat'!!  I can't play an instrument unless you count tapping your foot as an instrument.  We don't use hymnals, we have two overhead screens with the words to the music.  I was singing...I can sing in church when everyone else drowns me out.  Then I noticed the chorus said....(See, I don't even remember what the words were)...blah, blah, blah, REPEAT 7 TIMES!!!  Wow!  I truly never noticed the repetive words until today.  So I took notice.  I looked at the seven singers.  Some were bouncing to the rythmn, some were holding their hand up...the other was holding the mic...some had their eyes shut...but all were singing their hearts out to God.  I looked around in the audience and saw the same variation.  Now, I do believe if the repetiveness was monotone...all the same pitch...I think that is what I am looking for.  Then it would be boring.  But each repeat was more intense in feeling and volume.  As far as singing with God present?  Would we sing those songs in the presence iof Jesus?  We invite God to every service and I believe He is there and is pleased.

Now old versus new.  I don't know what is old songs versus new songs.  Yes, I know 'Old Rugged Cross', 'In the Garden' (my mother's favorite), 'Amazing Grace' are some old songs but as a fairly young Christian my easiest way to recognize an old song is in the lyrics are 'ye', 'thou', '...est', etc.  As for me, I don't believe I have heard a song in church that I didn't like.  I also agree that some reditions can ruin a song....remember Rosanne singing 'The Star Spangled Banner'?  But times do change and as long as the music and words glorify God and worship Him....it is pleasing to Him.  If we didn't change, then I would have worn a dress, a little hat and veil and white gloves to church today....I didn't see any woman dressed like that.

Today the songs we sang were "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name", "We Want to See Jesus Lifted High", "We All Bow Down", "Above All", "He is Lord" and "Jesus, Your Name".  (I got that from the bulletin...no way would I remember them otherwise) I don't know if they are old songs or new or which one had the repeated chorus but I do know that they were heartfelt and glorifying God whose was present in His house.

Our sermon today was not a sermon.  Pastor David and two other gentlemen went to Kenya, Africa, the early part of December.  We sponsor a missionary that is from Greenfield that is in Kenya.  His little church has grown from 20 in attendance to 300 each Sunday in three years.  He is in need of a bigger church.  So the three gentlemen went to see for themselves if we wanted to give them $100,000 for a new church.  They showed videos.  What poverty!  But oh, they are happy people.  This is a Muslim area but many are converting to Christianity.  The children are the ones that are in need.  A lot of orphans due to AIDS.  The facities are so primitive.  And here we complain about how much our heat bills are when they have no heat or A/C...not even windows or a blanket to sleep under.  They may have clothes but no way to wash them.  Very primitive.  I think what was said that was the most impact to me was this little church in Kenya gives the first ten percent to the community even though it is a very poor community.

I didn't realize that my church gives the first 25 percent to missionary work until this year.  Makes my heart smile when I think of that.

Wow!  I didn't realize this bandbox was so high....I am climbing down now.

:'( :'( :'( :'( I am so frustrated!  I have been trying for hours to download 27 photos from my camera, and cannot do it.  First, the icon has disappeared, nothing in programs about the camera software, either.  So I re-installed the software, no photos.  Uninstalled, reinstalled, still no pictures. I get the same steps, but then the pics do not show and will not download.  What could have happened?  I did all those from our trip, and haven't changed anything on this computer since then!!  Grrr!!!

So, anyway, I cannot share my paintings, my photos showing LOVE, my RED photos or any others until this gets sorted out.  Bah, humbug!!

Sometimes I say something on here, and then feel I should just keep my mouth SHUT (or my fingers still.)  Anyway, I still love all of you, whether we agree about the kind of music we enjoy or not.  The church we attend has wonderful music, and so many talented people they have to take turns being on the worship team!  It is amazing!  And what a blessing, too.

Lee, it is great to see you posting again!  :) ::)

I got lots of great hugs from my Curtis, some from Mark and Abby, too.  We didn't go to Golden Corral after all.  They were having a fund raising dinner at Memorial Hall to benefit the high school band, so we went there and ate lasagna with them.  Not nearly as good as Rotisserie chicken from the Corral, but we will probably eat at one of those in Amarillo on Tuesday.

My son in law took my car to his car wash, the Squeaky Clean, and gave it a good bath, so it is all nice and white once more.  Wasn't that nice of him?  :)

Since I can't do my photos, I guess I will go do something else.  Rats! >:( :-\

Hey there, Zachery!  I wish you were here, bet you could figure out my computer problem!!

NARDS:  Actually the song's chorus (four times in all) was:
Na Na....Na Na Na Na Na

Na Na....Na Na Na Na Na

My pastor's grandfather is a retired Bishop in the Free Methodist Church.  Our church was founded in 1861.  and until the early 1900's musicical instruments were not used in services.

As one who was objecting to the present musical style and was trying accept change, I asked myself "I wonder how Bishop Cryderman felt when musical instuments were introduced into the church service?"  He probably chringed.

So, I said to myself, "Self, you're gonna have to accept the change...like it or not."  And to a degree I have.

In fact we have a drummer that used to play for Tina Turner (before he got saved)  He plays with wild abandonment...well not really.  He told me recently that he could never really "let go" in church, he would always have to remain a little reserved, you know...hold back a little

I get goose bumps when he plays a "riff" (that's a solo, for the uninitiated.)  I really like it, but others have told me they do not like it one bit.

NARDS:  You said it all when you said, "show me the way to the Throne." (or words to that effect)

So, if it's worshipful to you and not to me...I'll try and find the Master anyway.  If fact, he may even be giggling over this discussion....can't you hear Him?:

He's saying: "My children, what you sing or how you sing it...it is not that important to me.  What I will accept is a broken and contrite heart...then you will find Me."

You wrote:

QuoteI also realize that I am now part of the "Old bunch"...my time is past or passing....."Out with the old and in with the new."  So I do not object all that often.

I've been taught, and believe, that God's Word hasn't changed but man tries to change it.  The "old" is just as fresh and new as it ever was.  If "old" is to love the words of say, Fanny Crosby, then I'm a very old man.  "New" to me, includes every kind of music that comes down the pike, but it doesn't necessarily glorify our Lord.  I can't sit in judgment regarding what others believe and feel, but I am still mentally and emotionally secure in what I personally believe glorifies our awesome God.  When I sing (Worship) I envision myself standing before a God who loves me (I often wonder why?), and I want not only my heart to sing to Him, but my understanding of each word as well.

As for your "Time being passed, or passed," may I respectfully disagree with you.  You (And I) have  spent our earthly Christian years in our Lord's "Spiritual Bootcamp,"  and we've only just begun.  Yes, we'll be learning "a New Song" in heaven, and I'm betting we'll take many of the "Old songs" with us.  JMO

Well,  after all this talk about our singing, I'm beginning to wonder now about even putting hymns in here to sing!  LOL  ???

I'm hoping that some will be blessed by them.   ;)  We've gathered together so many and when Larry and I hear one of you mention a hymn we try to find it if at all possible.  All aren't on the internet with midi files but many are.

Over in gloryland, we'll all be singing and worshipping our wonderful Lord Jesus!

I've a home prepared where the saints abide
Just over in the glory land
And I long to be by my Saviour's side
Just over in the glory land

Just over in the glory land
I'll join the happy angel band
Just over in the glory land
Just over in the glory land
There with the mighty host I'll stand
Just over in the glory land

I am on my way to those mansions fair
Just over in the glory land
There to sing God's praises and his glory share
Just over in the glory land

Refrain

What a joyful thought that my Lord I'll see
Just over in the glory land
And with kindred saved, there forever be
Just over in the glory land

Refrain

With the blood washed throng I will shout and sing
Just over in the glory land
Glad hosannas to Christ, the Lord and King
Just over in the glory land

LEE:  What I meant, but didn't express very well was.........I know (cause I was once young) that the old work horse is soon replaced with the young horse.

The time has come for me to step aside and let the young crowd do their thing.  While some may not agree with me on that point....I sense it in my heart.

So, I am willing to step aside.  Where I REALLY object...I voice my opinion.  My pastor has told me he really respects my opinion and because of that (amongst other things) I choose my topics and words carefully.

I also choose to lift him up and encourage him, not shoot him full of arrows.....even though Proverbs says:  "The arrows of a friend are better than the kisses of the enemy."

Nuff said.

If I keep responding to this topic I may eventually move from the Newbie stage to whatever stage is next and it is NOT the one headed for San Francisco.

Pat, you doggone sure BETTER keep putting those hymns in here!  They are a foundational part of Christian Photographers.  I LIKE EM.

The only reason I don't ever post the words to the newer songs is that the copyrights are a problem.  Since most of the hymns are now public domain in some fashion, I think it's WONDERFUL to put them here.  Keep it up.

Please don't ever think that I don't like hymns.  Karma is singing one now - Jesus Loves Me, and if Travis never learns another song, that one will tell him what he needs to know :)

Another wonderful New Generation service tonight. The message was on encouragement. Isn't it great the way on some sundays all the messages and the sunday school lesson all seem to be on the same subject. The young man who spoke tonight is only at our churchon Sunday nights, he goes to another church in the morning where his father is the pastor and they have no Sunday night service.

I think that was just too much information.

Oh well I will say good night. By the way I saw that Anthony was on line today, (Rainbow). If you are looking in Anthony; Hello hope you decide to post a few words now and then. It is good to see you online.

"Glory Land,"  most likely was a Negro spiritual in it's beginnings.  At least it sounds like it.  At Grace we had (They still do) a Black soloist named Jubalent Sikes.  Never, I mean never, have I ever heard hymns like those by Jubalent.  Two of my favorites (By him) are "Rise Again," and "Blessed Assurance."  Jubalent sings in the Negro Spiritual style, and I dare anyone listening to him to not tear.  Jubalent sang both numbers at my brother's funeral.

As an aside, one Sunday morning Jubalent was singing a solo and to his left rear was a very pretty Black lady signing for the deaf folks in the congregation.  I said in a small voice (Didn't know so many around me could hear me), "Hey Jubalent, look to your left dummy."  Many turned around and smiled.  I said this in affection for him because he wasn't noticing her.  I had the pleasure of telling this story to both he and his new fiancee a few months later. Yep, it was the same lady.  They both laughed.

Words by Fanny Crosby
Music by Phoebe P. Knapp

Hebrews 10:22
"Let us draw near with a true heart
in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience,
and our bodies washed with pure water
."

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

He Everyone:

Because I go the The Peoples Church with Oswald J. Smith as the founder and a song writer who has written a few hundred songs, we do sing hymns and his songs.   He wrote songs like "The Song of the Soul Set Free".   A lot of the great hymn writers were men and women of God who had been through tribulations and trials and the music has come from their experiences.

But we also sing beautiful, Spirit-filled songs that come on the big screen.   They are so anointed that tears come to our eyes while we sing.  Songs like "Jesus name above all names,
       Beautiful Saviour,  Glorious Lord
       Immanuel, God is with us
       Blessed Redeemer, Living Word"
These songs are filled with Scripture and so I know they are from God.

I can remember criticizing  the Christian Rock music that my son used to listen to many years ago when my son was a teenager and I am so sorry that I did.  I would rather he listened to Christian music than the crap of the world.  I have had to apologize to him now years later.   I'm so glad he wasn't put off by his mother being an old fogey and maybe completely turning to the world's music.  We have to be very careful when it comes to criticizing music just because it isn't our style of music.

Today I can listen to both and still feel God speaking to me through it.

God Bless

Actually, I really did understand your meaning.  The way I figure it is that we old codgers must never step aside.  It is we who have kept the church's standards going from those old codgers who taught us, and we must insure those standards are passed along to those who God has chosen to keep them in place.  If the church is allowed to change for change sake, we might be guilty of helping in the loss of the church's fundamental values.

Two weeks ago Adrian Rogers quoted the World Council of Churches as saying: "The problem with the church today is the Fundamentalist."    I admire your being an encourager to your pastor.  They need all we can give them.
