JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

"The road is not to be complained of,
as it leads to such a home."

~John Newton~

Please join us as we remember Papa John and his dear wife, Cornelia, and the whole family circle, in prayer today.
Please leave Papa John a message in THE PRAYER AREA so that he'll be sure to see all of our messages.

Morning Devotional...

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.  Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Luke 22:19-20

On the night in which He was betrayed, the Lord instituted His supper.  What a moment!

Now we have the opportunity to fulfill His charge on a regular basis.  We accept the privilege willingly and eat the bread and drink from the cup in remembrance of the Lord.

In doing this we make a proclamation of the Lord's death.

May our remembrance of Him be sweet (Psalms 104:34).
--Reg. L. Jordan

Saviour, We Remember Thee!

Author:  Samuel Trevor Francis, 1834-1925
Musician:  Samuel T. Francis, 1834-1925

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Luke 22:19

Saviour, we remember Thee!
Thy deep woe and agony,
All Thy suff'ring on the tree:
Saviour, we adore Thee.

Calvary! O Calvary!
Mercy's vast unfathomed sea,
Love, eternal love to me:
Saviour, we adore Thee.

Darkness hung around Thy head,
When for sin Thy blood was shed,
Victim in the sinner's stead:
Saviour, we adore Thee.

Jesus, Lord, Thou now art risen!
Thou hast all our sins forgiv'n;
Haste we to our home in heav'n:
Saviour, we adore Thee.

Soon with joyful, glad surprise
We shall hear Thy word:
Arise! Mounting upward to the skies:
Glory, glory, glory!

Saviour, we Thy love adore;
We will praise Thee more and more;
Spread Thy Name from shore to shore,
Saviour, we adore Thee!

Hi everyone.

It has turned very chilly here, about 32 degrees, but the sun is out so no complaints.  The couple we often take home from church called last evening saying they needed a ride to church this morning so we will be leaving early to pick them up.  We also have to be at choir practice at 10 am as this is senior Sunday and the choir will be composed of members 50 and over.

It is good to see so many folks coming back to express their concerns and prayers for Cornelia and Papa John.

Marilyn, glad some new work has come your way and that you will be able to do some of it at home.  Glad you had such a good time with your grandchildren.  I agree with them that the fire helmets were something really you had to see to believe.  No wonder those skaters were moving quickly.  I think I would also if I had fire in my hat.  :)

Just watching the snowy conditions in New York, Boston and up the East coast.  Pat, Ruthie, Sue, Judy and others in that part of Canada, are any of you impacted by this snow.

Pat, thanks for the new devotional today.

February 12
The Holy Spirit: Our Fear of Emotions
So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them--
walking, leaping, and praising God.
--Acts 3:8
One cause of the decline in the quality of religious experience
among Christians these days is the neglect of the doctrine of the
inward witness.
Stamping our feet to start the circulation and blowing on our hands
to limber them up, we have emerged shivering from the long period of
the theological deep-freeze, but the influence of the frosty years
is still felt among us to such an extent that the words witness,
experience and feeling are cautiously avoided by the rank and file
of evangelical teachers. In spite of the undeniable lukewarmness of
most of us we still fear that unless we keep a careful check on
ourselves we shall surely lose our dignity and become howling
fanatics by this time next week. We set a watch upon our emotions
day and night lest we become over-spiritual and bring reproach upon
the cause of Christ. Which all, if I may say so, is for most of us
about as sensible as throwing a cordon of police around a cemetery
to prevent a wild political demonstration by the inhabitants.
Born After Midnight, 11.

"Lord, open up my heart to receive, and then open up my mouth to
declare, the glory of Your mighty work! Amen."

Good morning all!  Still snowing here.  We have about 4 inches and travis is begging to go outside and play.  Bernard had to run out to the store to get milk (if we had been smart, we would have gotten it last night).  He's been gone over an hour for a 15 minute trip.

ooooo -- He just pulled in the driveway.  I better run.  Travis is going to want to go out and play . . .

Good Afternoon

My prayers for all that have needs at the present time. My needs are small compared to so many of you folk but even though the sun is shinning and truly it is a most wonderful day I do feel down.

Yesterday we attended a sixtieth Birthday Party down near the lake and also west, in that area they have very little snow and as you progress north the accumilation increases but at that we do have very little as well.

Is this Larry's Birthday??    Happy Birthday, dear Larry! :hb: :hb:

Etta Sue

Is today your birthday, Larry?  You and Abe?  Happy Birthday, Larry!!

In getting ready for my Euchere Club, I washed curtains, windows and rehung the curtains in the dining room and here in the computility room.  My body knows it today.  I don't think I went to sleep until after 1 a.m. and then back to sleep after 4 a.m.  I think I put the curtains on the rods in the bathroom 126 times at least while trying to go back to sleep this morning.  Then the alarm went off at 6 a.m.  I was at church by 7:15 a.m. and realized soon after that that today I was manning the lights as well as the duping ministry!  So I am tired.  I need a nap!!

I am thinking that no news is good news from Papa John.  I am praying that he is overjoyed how well Cornelia is doing today!

Wasn't the Opening Ceremonies at Torino wonderful!  Such imagination and putting that imagination so it works out that the whole world can see it!  Wonderful!

Thank you all for the Birthday wishes and Marilyn, that was a lovely card.  Today is indeed my birthday and I have now turned 65.  I feel very fortunate to reach this age considering all the heart problems but I thank God for each and everyday he allows me.

We had a wonderful church service with the choir loft filled by seniors.  We sang a version of Blessed Assurance.  Following church we had our annual senior's banquet--wasn't it nice of them to have it on my birthday?  :)  We had a delicious meal, the ladies had outdone themselves on the decorations, and then the members of our Praise Singers for our contemporary service provided the entertainment by singing songs of the 30s through the 80s.  There were 8 musicians/singers in the group and they sound like professionals.

Etta Sue, I sort of think if you had gotten up and hung those curtains you might have gotten a better nights sleep.   :D

We have good news to report about Cornelia.  Her condition has improved.  On Thursday night the doctors didn't think she would live through the night.  They said if we had close relatives away we should notify them.  But she was some better Friday morning.  Saturday she seemed to be holding her own.  And this morning our cardiologist said she had improved and they were going to move her from critical care to special care and that sometime this week they would try to implant a pacemaker/defibulator.  She is a little confused but she knows us and talks to us.  She doesn't exactly understand what happened but she knows she is going to have the pacemaker implant.  Someone has stayed all night at the hospital until tonight.  All three of our daughters are here.  Her sister and husband who live in Denver are planning to come on Wednesday for a few days.

Thank you so much for your prayers.  I know the doctors do all they can do but I believe God listened to our prayers and we praise God.

For all that You've done I will thank you,
For all that you are going to do,
For all that You've promised and all that you are,
Is all that has carried me through.
Jesus I thank you.

Papa John

Carol

This is a red letter day!

After weeks of trying to get back into CP, - hooray, I am in.  We worked on this all afternoon and at least I get on with the desktop.  We also have a laptop and I am too weary to even see if that works.

So, I was saddened to read about Papa John's dear Cornelia but the last I read was that she was better than expected.

Larry:  Happy Birthday to you  - I can't tell you how nice it is to get back into this site.

I will never be able to go back weeks worth of everyone's posts so forgive me for not mentioning important news.

Saturday, I helped prepare lunch for the homeless.  Some of the youth group from our church were there & they are wonderful kids - it was so nice to work along with them.

Sorry for the huge snowstorms that you in the east coast are enduring.  We have had little bits of snow but the mountains are tremendous with snowfall.

I can't believe that I finally got into CP again.

Hi Pat:  How is everything?

See you, Carol

Pat

VERSE:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.
    -- John 3:16
THOUGHT:
Did you know the Bible doesn't just say, "God loves you." Now
don't let me confuse you. Scripture does tell us many times that
God loves us. However, don't miss the important truth here. Each
time Scripture tell us that God loves us, it also demonstrates that
love as well. God's love is more than emotion and intention. God's
love is demonstrated. God loved us so much he didn't just say, "I
love you." God showed his by sending and sacrificing his Son to
give us his incomparable love! We never have to doubt that God
means what he says. He has backed up his promises of love with his
actions.
PRAYER:
Loving and Almighty God, thank you for loving me. Thank you for
both saying it and showing it. Please know, dear Father, I love
you, too! Accept my words and actions today as a testimony to my
love. Through Jesus I pray. Amen.

The Holy Spirit: Wild-eyed Fanatics
Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things;
hold fast what is good.
--1 Thessalonians 5:19-21
This is a crude illustration, but let me tell you what we did after
planting a field of corn when I was a young fellow in Pennsylvania.
To save the field of corn from the crows, we would shoot an old crow
and hang him by his heels in the middle of the field. This was
supposed to scare off all of the crows for miles around. The crows
would hold a conference and say, "Look, there is a field of corn
but don't go near it. I saw a dead crow over there!"

That's the kind of conference that Satan calls, and that is exactly
what he has done. He has taken some fanatical, weird, wild-eyed
Christians who do things that they shouldn't, and he has stationed
them in the middle of God's cornfield, and warns, "Now, don't you go
near that doctrine about the Holy Spirit because if you do, you will
act just like these wild-eyed fanatics."  The Counselor, 63.

"Keep us, Lord, from shying away from such valuable truth and
experience as the ministry of the Holy Spirit because of the
excesses of a few fanatics. We lose too much, and we can't afford
the loss. Amen."
