Morning Devotional...

Behold the man! John 19:5
Behold your King! John 19:14

Twice in one hour, Pilate, the pagan Roman Governor, quoted Old Testament Scriptures (Zech 6:12; 9:9). Not that he knew it, but he was in the hands of a sovereignty greater than that of Rome or Caesar.

Pilate never, ever, would have had a man before him like this Man, and he certainly never would have had on trial at his judgment seat a man who was king, as this Man.

But this Man was unique.

Whether he spoke in sincerity or in irony, Pilate spoke truth when he called, "Behold the Man ... Behold your King."

(Click to hear music)

His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns;
and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
Revelation 19:12

Author:  Matthew Bridges, 1800-1894, and
Godfrey Thring, 1823-1903
Musician:  George J. Elvey, 1816-1893

Crown Him with many crowns, The Lamb upon His throne;
Hark! how the heav'nly anthem drowns All music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing Of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King Thro' all eternity.

Crown Him the Son of God Before the worlds began:
And ye, who tread where He hath trod, Crown Him the Son of man;
Who ev'ry grief hath known That wrings the human breast,
And takes and bears them for His own, That all in Him may rest.

Crown Him the Lord of love! Behold His hands and side,
Rich wounds, yet visible above, In beauty glorified:
No angel in the sky Can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his wond'ring eye At mysteries so bright.

Crown Him the Lord of life, Who triumphed o'er the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife For those He came to save;
His glories now we sing Who died, and rose on high,
Who died, eternal life to bring, And lives that death may die.

Crown Him the Lord of years, The Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres Ineffably sublime!
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me:
Thy praise shall never, never fail Thro'out eternity.

HYMN HISTORY:

It is not surprising that such a magnificent opening line as "Crown Him With Many Crowns" should be used by different hymn-writers. But it is not known whether the two writers of this hymn ever met. Matthew Bridges was one of the considerable group of Anglicans who were influenced by Newman and Faber. Godfrey Thring, a much younger man, became a Prebendary of Wells Cathedral in 1876 and it was he who altered and rearranged Bridges' hymn so that both their names now go with it in the hymn books.

But even good first lines are not always fashioned straight away. The first line of this great hymn used to be "Crown Him with crowns of gold" - a line that was for many years popular in the United States, being considered more impressive than any other description.

The five verses celebrate the kingship of Christ each with a definite theme,

Crown Him the Lord of Love
Crown Him the Son of God
Crown Him the Lord of Life
Crown Him the Lord of Peace
Crown Him the Lord of Heaven

thus making the hymn a fine example of Christian teaching about the person of Christ.

                                                      January 22, 2006

VERSE:
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock,
and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh
receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it
shall be opened.
    -- Matthew 7:7-8

THOUGHT:
Ask! So often we're afraid to ask for help because we have to
admit we don't have the answers. Seek! Effort and interest and
perseverance are necessary and that's sometimes hard. Knock! In an
era of doorbells, this is a forgotten action. But God wants us to
use the A.S.K. principle and bring our hearts before him. So let's
don't just whine, complain, desire, and want. Let's A.S.K. our
Father and seek his glory.
PRAYER:
Waiting Father, I am sorry that so often you only hear my whines
and complaints and concerns. You have been so generous with your
love. Help me to keep my heart set on you and your will today as I
ask you to minister to the things on my heart. Through Jesus I
pray. Amen.

Thank you Pat and chris for the devotionals you both have posted here today, they are much appreciated.

I have received an email from one of our member, Zeebers(Zneobia), this morning with a request to pray for her family, Her son Mike Sr. has  written out his last wishes and has requested that no  preacher or minister be present. Well here is the email:

Hello All:

Seems that my son has signed his papers for his last wishes and is in pretty bad shape.

If I sound light and airy...believe me, I am not.

The terrible and wonderful burden of motherhood is a gift from God. In itself it is fierce and all consuming.

Motherhood is protective and hungers to shield and comfort until the very end.

I have buried one child some time ago. The lingering pain and grief followed me for years. I know in my heart that absent from here is to be with our Lord. My heart is a mothers heart though, that comes close to whispering, "Lord, he is not just anyone, he is my son". Pray for me to allow God to hold me close in this
season of life. It is a season I hoped never to see. God, however, always knows best!

My love for him, makes me want his suffering to be over.

Please pray for all of us in this difficult time. Pray Gods will for Mike Sr....as he has stated that he wants no minister, priest, or clergy. This, from a man who once knew the Lord so well. Pray for his salvation and his return to his Master before the end.

Love and Blessings
Zee

Aaaawwww ZEE  :'(  I know the pain of losing a child. Doesn't matter the age they are still our babies.  I do pray that God holds you close, very close, during this difficult time.  And I pray that He will bring all things to Mike Sr.'s remembrance and that angels will usher him into His presence where he will be free from pain and suffering and know the unspeakable love of our Father.

Zee, I'm so sorry for your pain.  Yes, as Jane said, I pray God hold you so very close to His own heart now.

Zee ~ There is no way that I can say I know how you feel because I don't.  Just know that my arms are stretched and they are holding you near my heart.  Sometimes being quiet is the only thing that needs to be said.

Kevin ~ I have been to Toledo Bend Dam several times....not fishing...just driving around.  I still don't see how that little dam can hold back that much water.  If you haven't been back lately, there are still stick-ups when the lake is low...looks like a war zone.  I haven't been there for probably five years.

Janet ~ So happy that Beth is home and I am sure she is happy, too.    My prayers are with all of you.

Church was awesome today.  I also manned the lights as well did all the duplications of the cassettes and CD's.  I made too many mistakes.  When I was putting on the last of the labels on next weeks cassettes, I notice they all had this weeks date on them....so I printed 36 more labels and affixed them to the cassettes!  Big mistake!

Time to recline!  I seldom have a headache but I have a slight one at my right temple.

A blessed Sunday to you all!

Our services were so uplifting, both Bible class and church.  There were many wanting prayer, and pastor and JoLynn prayed with each person.  Praise God for loving and caring pastors.  The church has grown so much since they came, it is almost full now on Sunday mornings, and as many on Wednesday nights as used to come on Sunday mornings!  We are thanking God for his love and care.

Oh, dear Zee.........how my heart goes out to you!  I have no idea how moms endure the loss of a child (of any age.)  But I do know that God's grace, mercy and lovingkindness is never ending, and that He will never leave you nor forsake you.  We will continue to pray for you, dear one, and for your son too, of course.

Etta Sue, that wasn't such a big mistake!  But the stress of it probably caused your headache.  I hope your church members let you know how much they appreciate you work in the lights and sound ministry.  I know they do, but they need to tell you, so that you hear it and are encouraged.  (((hugs)))

Beth and Mieka are happy to be back in their own home.  I sent Abby over with Beth's mail and a plate of dinner earlier. Tomorrow I will be taking her to the doctor so he can write orders for the services Beth needs.  I hope I can manage alone, but I'm not sure, as my arm/shoulder is still giving me trouble.

Jeff will be coming to pick up Abby later.  Her mom called this morning and said she would be leaving Dallas about noon or one, so will be home late tonight.

I need to do some stuff, see you later!

Oh!  Chris, I've been enjoying the music!  :)

What a lovely Lord's Day we're having.  This has been a very unusual winter season so far.  We've had probably a total of about 2 feet of snow which was quickly gone when the temperatures rose and the rain fell - but of course there's lots more to come.  ;)

Yesterday the wind came up.  Boy, did it ever!!!  Thousands of people lost power - some still don't have any.  But I prayed and was answered "Yes" that ours would hold.  A piece of the siding blew off my trailer and one of my neighbors found it and put it back this afternoon.  The Lord has certainly provided for me with wonderful neighbors.  They all look out for me - there are advantages in being old!

I was able to stand during the singing of hymns in the worship service this morning. That's the first time in over a year I've had the strength in my legs to do so. What a blessing to be able to do such a small thing as stand to my feet in awe and reverence for our Holy God!

It's raining lots and lots here in Nashville, a typical wintertime event in this part of the country. I'm certainly thankful it's not colder, or we'd have piles of snow instead.  :)

Y'all have a good day.

Hi everyone.

We also had a wonderful church service today.  The message was on the first commandment and was very powerful.  The choir sang "Many Gifts, One Spirit" by Allen Pote and it is a beautiful piece of vocal music with a wonderful message.  Finally, during the offertory our organist and a guest pianist from Denver (a music teacher and friend of the organist) played a rousing duet of some of the great old hymns.  It was breath taking and when they finished the church burst forth in applause (that may not seem too strange unless you are a Presbyterian and we don't applaud very often unless it is the small children who have done something.)

So sorry to read of the heartache that our friend Zeebers is experiencing.

Janet, glad to hear that Beth is safely home.  I do hope you have some help with her tomorrow in getting to the doctor.

Etta Sue, I am sure no one else considers the small error you made as serious.  I also hope that you occasionally get a "pat on the back" for your efforts although I am equally confident that you are not doing this for any personal praise.

Ruth Ann, it is so good to see that you are progressing in your recovery and were able to stand today.

Jeanne Lee, there are many fine people in this world and it sounds like some of them live in your neighborhood.  Are you still working at the city hall on a part-time basis?

Marilyn, thanks for sharing the e-mail from Zeebers.  It has been awhile since she has visited us but she certainly isn't forgotten.

Pat, I really liked the "One Almighty is more than all mighties."

I was just sent something, via my wife, from one of our church members and wanted to share it with you all.  It is really something unique that I had never seen before "The Scripture Tree":

Ruth Ann, I rejoiced at your reaction to the good thing our Lord has done for you!
QuoteWhat a blessing to be able to do such a small thing as stand to my feet in awe and reverence for our Holy God!
It's wonderful that any of us sinners has the grace to experience awe and reverence in these last days.  Awe and reverence are perhaps the most missing ingredients in today's "worship."

Larry - thank you for the tree - it's a good one.

Jeanne Lee - so glad you didn't lose power!  We did lose it not very long ago for 4 1/2 days, along with telephone for 7 1/2 days, so I can really relate.

Larry that was a real neat  link. I have put it in my favorites and sent it on to some friends of mine.

Our message today was on communion then we had communion after the message. In Sunday school we are studying all the scriptures on healing and health, and knowing Gods will about our healing.

I have been busy since I came home from church, I made some Tuna/Macaroni salad and had a Marie Callender's  TV dinner for myself. The salad is for later when I get back from prayer meeting.

The car was all frosted over this morning but I didn't have to do anything about it because I walked to church, which I like to do when the weather permits.

Janet I really think you should have someone help you with Beth tomorrow, Don't take a chance with your shoulder just yet. You still need more time to heal properly. You know very well you will be doing things that you shouldn't if you don't have the extra help. You know you will. <3

I have anointed and prayed over my prayer shawl again as I  worked on it some more today. It is getting there not much more to go. I am also going to put fringe on it and tie on some Heart beads in purple, blue and red.

Be back later.

FINALLY:.... I thought I was "losing it" (again).... I tried for almost half an hour to post here, gave up in frustration, only to call Pat, our Admin. and found out I wasn't "logged on".

Has this happened to you?

I wanted to tell Larry how much I enjoyed the "Scripture Tree".  I've never seen anything like it before, Larry.  Please tell Pat "thanks" for sending that!  I've enjoyed it so much!

Zee:  My heart aches for you!  If that was my child, I would feel just the same.  God bless you both!

Lovingly,
Judy M.

I had a nice little visit today from Norm McKenna.  It was really nice to see him.

Then I had some more unexpected company and they've just left not long ago so today was a nice day.

Well this has been a day.  Church was wonderful.  The Christian youth from the college/university took the service,  There was only one mishap.  They didn't use the piano, just 3 guitars and drunms.  The lead guitarist broke a string in the middle of one song that was new to most of us.  Interesting!

Oh the joys and challenges of parenting teens.  :bash:

Zee I am sorry about your news.  I will be praying. :(

A man from our congregation was supposed to go to Haiti this past week.  Unfortunately the situation in Haiti blew up and the pastor they were to work with was attacked and was rushed off the island to Miami.  As a result the mission team was stopped and held back.  Unfortunately Air Canada will not refund any of the air fares.  This is to the tune of 60 000 dollars.  Yes that figure is correct.  They have asked that prayer go up to cause a change in the minds of the Air Canada head office and the money is released.  The pastor and his family are safe and from what I understand not hurt.

That is about all for now.  God bless and everyone have a good rest
