JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Personal Life: Dependence on God

Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
--Philippians 4:11-12

We can learn important lessons by considering God's disciplines in dealing with Elijah. As Elijah fled to the wilderness following his first confrontation with King Ahab, God said to him, "Elijah, go to the brook Cherith, and I will feed you there." God sent big, black buzzards--ravens, scavenger birds--each morning and evening with Elijah's meals. What humiliation! All his life Elijah had been self-sufficient. Now he waited on scavenger birds to deliver him his daily bread....

Elijah was like so many faithful preachers of the Word who are too true and too uncompromising for their congregations.

"We don't have to take that," the people protest. And they stop contributing to the church. More than one pastor knows the meaning of economic strangulation. Preach the truth, and the brook dries up! But the Lord knows how to deal with each of us in our humiliations. He takes us from truth to truth.
Dr. Tozer in Men Who Met God, 96.

"Lord, I commit myself anew today to never compromise the truth,
even if it costs me my job. Amen."

Aaahhh such truth in the devotional thoughts today, Pat .. Thank you!

Far too many sermons are "watered down" to appease the congregation.  Often this is so not to offend the "big givers" among them.  I love an uncompromised Gospel ... The pastor of the church I attended last Sunday preached what he labeled "hell fire and brimstone" and gave an opportunity for people to commit or recommit their lives to God ... There were several who raised their hands and he prayed with them.  I didn't think he needed to apologize for preaching as he did ...  :-\

I enjoyed singing with my friends at the nursing home this afternoon (Friday) and we will again be singing at another nursing home on Sunday.  The people were very responsive and appreciative today.  It is such a joy to see the smiles and their response to the gospel music.  I don't think they get that much gospel there.  Lots of entertainment, but not much gospel.

Thanks,Pat for your comments in my photo gallery!   ;)

I don't have any pets ... but I know each of you love yours and think of them as the very best in the world ... For you they are.  That's great!

I'm a little tired at the moment so think I'll just find a corner to relax in and watch all y'all as you come in for coffee and conversation before starting your day.   Aaaahhhh here's a good spot ... y'all just carry on.  I'll talk atcha later .....
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

I am going to go look at Jazz.

Here is something I got in my email this morning.

Subject: Amazing Photos of "Mammatus" Clouds

Jorn Olsen works for the Dutton-Lainson Co. in Hastings, Nebraska, and lives by
Heartwell Park next to Hastings College. The other night, probably just after
the big storm hit, he took these photos and sent them to UNL which, then, posted
them to the following URL. The stadium lights are at the Hastings College
stadium just east of his home.

The clouds are called Mammatus clouds and there's a link on this URL that tells
about them. They do not precede a tornado, or fortell a storm, but are formed
when the air is already saturated with rain droplets and/or ice crystals and
begins to sink. The worst of the storm is usually over when these kind of clouds
are seen. They are quite rare, but really beautiful. Check them out at  the link
below.

Good Morning, Pat the devotional this morning rings so true. I agree with Jane that too many Pastors are preaching "feel good" messages to appease people instead to what I called "hitting them between the eyes" type message, confronting sin right in their face. Not naming names of course but speaking about specific sins in a general way so as to make the people think about their own lives,. I love those "Hellfire and Brimstone" messages. I especially like the way John Hagee preaches.

Well today is my half day of work. I got a call from one of the Deacons wives yesterday inviting me to an open house 44th Birthday for  her husband. He is also the bass player in the  worship band. They have just moved into a house after living in a mobile for a lot of years. and are right down the street from where I  used to live. So I will go over there after work.

Those are indeed remarkable cloud formations, Marilyn.  Thanks for posting them.  I can't recall ever having seen such clouds before.

Pat - thanks for that devotional - and for the quotation from Rutherford.  He's one of my favorites of the Puritans.  I can vouch for the truth of "economic strangulation."  But God is faithful - He supplies from stores of goodness that unfaithful hearers can't touch.

 for this devotional this morning-give me truth-Go's word its what I need and I know I will follow the right pth. Thanks for this word this morning Pat.
Will we have got a little snow this morning but it looks like it may tuurn to rain.
Tomorrow is calling for rain-snow-windy typical winters day  :)LOL
I want to get to church tomorrow so I'm hoping it will be better than their predicating.
God Blessings to all-have a great day

Etta Sue

What unusual clouds.  I sure hope we don't find out that they have been manipulated in PSP or Photo Shop!  Am I negative or not?

Kevin ~ May I ask what part of Louisianna?  My sister had a mobile on Toledo Bend Resevoir for a few years...near Zwolle.  It was fun going there.  Nothing to do but relax!  And eat!  Ate lots of times in Natchidotches (sp), Many, Zwolle and over into Texas.  I went to your church website but couldn't read it...glad you told us you are in Japan!

Janet ~ I tend to think of myself being idle too much and not many friends but your statement about my friends made me think back and yes, I am blessed to have great friends.  Also remember, I don't have a husband or parents living.   No grand kids either to spoil!  So I just spoil myself!  Haha!

Dark and gloomy again today here with seconds of sun shining!  I guess the sun doesn't know what to do today!  It is cold...just a few degrees above freezing!  A good day to stay in!

Janet

Etta Sue, a couple years back, we had that kind of clouds here, not quite that dramatic, but that formation.  So I don't think the photos were altered.  They are stunning, aren't they?  Thanks, Marilyn.

Also, Etta Sue, that cat graphic is so cute!  Naughty kitty!!  I don't mention it too often, but I always enjoy your little graphics on here.

Well, things just don't seem to go well for Beth.  Her plane was late getting into Chicago, so she missed the one to Denver.  Now she will be stuck in Denver all afternoon........and get to Garden at 6:00 PM instead of 12:30.  :(  I hope she tolerates the trip well.

I went and helped give out "shares" this morning, and got ours.  We got some really good stuff this month.....lots of meat, fresh fruits, and veggies.  :)

I think I will go look for Kevin's dog.  Laters!

Good morning, hope the day is going well. I've finished grocery shopping and plan to meet with some friends for lunch. Tonight there's a get together at church, so plan to try to go - it's a friend's birthday today. She's a loving young lady working toward becoming a registered nurse. She's faithful to the church and a sweet christian both to know and to watch in action.

Etta Sue...I am from southwest Louisiana, about an hour or so from Lake Charles.  When I was a young lad, we camped and fished at Toledo Bend Dam a couple of times.  Lots and lots of fish were caught and consumed ;D.

We head to church shortly.  Have a great afternoon/evening everyone!

Nice devotional, Pat.  Nice music, Chris.  I am listening to it right now.   :)

So much rain here on the island.  Guess we will all be nice and green come spring!

Have been going slightly nuts with Misty (cat) lately.  She has an infection in her gums and it means giving her pills twice a day and rubbing her gums once a day.  The pill pockets are okay unless she spits them out.  Then I push the pill down her throat and give her the pocket as a treat.  Guess that helps..... >:(  She is the most gentle cat and determined to be my indoor friend on a regular basis.  Which puts the Squeekers out of sorts when she comes down from the kids upstairs.  Feel like my life has been completely taken over lately

Nice dog, Kevin.  I went to your church site and listened to the choir.  Lovely group.  Hope you will tell us lots about your work in Japan and about the area.  Have never been and find it most interesting.  We get lots of tourists from there and they always are so polite and charming.

Etta Sue, that cat graphic is like Squeek.  Wendy said if ignored in the morning, Squeek goes into the bathroom and does that to the paper!  So she doesn't get ignored often......

Yes Ruthie.  I think most of us in the West will be out and voting.  We have been trying to get the Liberals out for many moons...but the East keeps voting them in!

Here is a little thought about politics:

Dear Abby:

I have always wanted to have my family history traced, but I can't afford to spend a lot of money to do it. Any suggestions?

/s/
Sam in California

Dear Sam:

Yes. Run for public office.

                                                  :) :)

Time to go and start thinking about dinner.  My Sat. to cook dinner for the kids.  Think that I will make a meatloaf and that Apple Crisp from Etta Sue's recipe.  It was popular last time.

About photos, I like the way Pat puts one for us to see and we can go for a look.  Don't always remember to check and do love looking, not always time for posting tho'......

Pleasant day/evening and God Bless.

Liz
CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Yes, Liz - I think I shan't run for public office!

Chris - Patsy is wonderful.  I could listen to her sing things like that for hours.  The other one was good too.  Thanks for those!

The Anchor Holds
(Click to hear music)

Words and Music by Lawrence Chewning and Ray Boltz 1994 - Word Music

I have journeyed through the long, dark night
Out on the open sea,
By faith alone, sight unknown,
And yet His eyes were watching me.

The Anchor holds, though the ship is battered.
The Anchor holds, though the sails are torn.
Well I have fallen on my knees,
as I faced the raging sea,
But the Anchor holds, in spite of the storm.
I've had visions and I've had dreams;
Well I've even held them in my hands,
But I never knew those dreams could slip right through
Like they were only grains of sand.

O, the Anchor holds, though the ship is battered.
The Anchor holds, though the sails are torn.
Well I have fallen on my knees,
as I faced the raging seas.
O, the Anchor holds, in spite of the storm.
Now I have been young, but I am older now.
O and there has been beauty these eyes have seen;
But it was in the night, when I faced the storms of my life.
Oh, that's where God proved His love to me.

The Anchor holds, though the ship is battered.
The Anchor holds, though the sails are torn.
I have fallen, fallen down on my knees
as I faced the raging seas.
But the Anchor holds; O, in spite of the storm.
I said I've fallen, fallen down on my knees
as I faced the raging seas;
But the Anchor holds, in spite of the storm.

I often visit a website called the Elijah List.  On one of their postings they were urging Canadians to pray for the election coming up on Monday, Jan. 23rd.   Pray for a righteous leader.  Even though there is some smearing,  we know that God is in control.

Stephen Harper of the Conservatives has said he would like Canada to have a closer relationship with United States.  I would like that also.

God Bless

Hi everyone.  I am a little late getting here today.  Have had a pretty lazy afternoon with a nice long nap.

Pat and I are watching "March of the Penguins" and what a delightful movie with such wonderful photography.  It certainly puts on display the magnificance of God's creation but what a rough life these beautiful birds have.

Janet, know you will be so relieved to see Beth safely back in her own home.  This trip for her has certainly been a difficult one.

There are so many postings  that I am not going to respond individually this evening.  Just want to say welcome to our new folks and that it is good to read so many postings.

Etta Sue When I saw that graphic this morning I remembered when Happy was just a pup that he always liked to go into the bathroom and tear down the toilet paper. I learned very quickly to close the bathroom door.  He always did it when I was out of the house. Before that I learned to keep the lid down on the toilet to keep the dogs from drinking  out of the toilet. :ticked:

Liz Thank you for the email today. It is always a blessing to me to know that I have blessed someone else  with something that I have sent them. I have received some very encouraging emails from others regarding what I have sent. everyday when I pray I ask the Lord to let me be a blessing to someone  and to all those I come in contact with that day. <3

Janet dear sister please know that I may not say anything but I am praying for you all, maybe not daily but often. Let Beth know that I am praying for her. I hope she got home all safe and sound without anymore delays.

Larry  I don't often address you but I pray for your dear wife and daughter and  enjoy your posts so much. I think it wonderful what you do for your local Senior center PC users group, the Calvin Cove thing and your church website. you do keep busy. ;)

Kevin Today we have seen three different versions of the Border Collie, Pat's Geordie, My Happy, and your Jazz. Sure are different in looks aren't they .

Marilyn, to answer this morning's question:  We pick up our shares at the local Senior Center, and it's the same with my sister up in Nebraska.  So that's where I would check first.

We got home about an hour or so ago with Beth.  It was a difficult day for her, but she was in good spirits.  They called a couple of Firemen to carry her from the plane, and they were teasing her and being really nice, which helped.  She said that in Denver, they put her in the Special Services room for the afternoon, after she got a hamburger from the airport McDonalds.  Poor little Mieka was so hungry and thirsty, I fed and watered her as soon as we got them in the house.

Abby and I were squeezed in the back seat with Beth's luggage, so we were happy to get home, too!  The back was taken up with the walker and wheelchair.

Thank you all for continuing to pray for Beth, for us, and for the situation we all face.  God will make a way, where there seems to be no way.........

I just did a bunch of maintenance on my computer, my mouse kept freezing up and I had to reboot several times a day.  Hope that does the trick!

I'm off to do my daily Bible reading, see you all after church tomorrow.

I checked on the Shares program that used to be in this area. It isn't here anymore someone decided thjat it was to hard to service the northern Californina area so they stopped delivering up here about 2 years ago.  That was sad news.

Good night all.
