Morning Devotional...

Personal Life:
People Follow Leaders

Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
--1 Corinthians 11:1

The history of Israel and Judah points up a truth taught clearly enough by all history, viz., that the masses are or soon will be what their leaders are. The kings set the moral pace for the people....

Whatever sort of man the king turned out to be the people were soon following his leadership. They followed David in the worship of Jehovah, Solomon in the building of the Temple, Jeroboam in the making of a calf and Hezekiah in the restoration of the temple worship.

It is not complimentary to the masses that they are so easily led, but we are not interested in praising or blaming; we are concerned for truth, and the truth is that for better or for worse religious people follow leaders. A good man may change the moral complexion of a whole nation; or a corrupt and worldly clergy may lead a nation into bondage....

Today Christianity in the Western world is what its leaders were in the recent past and is becoming what its present leaders are. The local church soon becomes like its pastor.
God Tells the Man Who Cares, 59-60.

"That's a heavy responsibility for any leader to bear, Lord, but it's one I realize we have to carry. That makes moral failure or even carelessness and lax discipline so tragic. Strengthen me in the power of Your Holy Spirit today, that I might be a leader worth following. Amen."

Living For Jesus (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/livingForJesus.mid)

Living for Jesus a life that is true;
striving to please him in all that I do,
yielding allegiance, gladhearted and free,
this is the pathway of blessing for me.

Refrain:
O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to thee;
for thou, in thy atonement,
didst give thyself for me;
I own no other master,
my heart shall be thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ for thee alone.

Living for Jesus who died in my place,
bearing on Calvary my sin and disgrace,
such love constrains me to answer his call,
follow his leading and give him my all.

Refrain

Living for Jesus wherever I am,
doing each duty in his holy hame,
willing to suffer affliction or loss,
deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Refrain

Living for Jesus through earth's little while,
my dearest treasure, the light of his smile,
seeking the lost ones he died to redeem,
bringing the weary to find rest in him.

Refrain

                                                      January  8, 2006

VERSE:
Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the
God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. Hate the evil,
and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be
that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of
Joseph.
    -- Amos 5:14-15

THOUGHT:
A whole bunch of folks claim that God is on their side. In
reality, the important question is whether we are on God's side!
That's determined more by what we seek and do rather than what we
think and say. God longs to be with us, but he will not sacrifice
his character to extend us cheap grace -- a grace that does not
call us to be like him and live with Jesus as our Lord. He's
looking for believers who put their character where their mouths
are and work to bring goodness to their world, culture, and legal
systems.

PRAYER:
Most Holy God, your righteousness and holiness are beyond me. I
know that my best efforts are only vain attempts to attain them.
Yet I long, dear Father, to be more like you in every way that it
is humanly possible. Let me know of your presence with me as I seek
after you, your character, and your goodness in my life. Teach me
to be revolted by the things you call evil. In the name of Jesus
the Righteous One I pray. Amen.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, Saviour of all believers, Creator of all things from the beginning of the world, is not somebody's" homeboy!"
God is to be reverenced as God.
Please don't ever try to bring God down to our level, let Him lift you up to His.
All of creation including the Angels bow before Him.
Sometimes we can be so careless and arrogant.
Read  Rev, ch. 19 v 11-16, this is our Saviour, mighty to save, and yet indwelling the lowliest hearts which surrender to Him and respect and honour Him,
God bless all who love the Lord in truth.
Chris.

On another note, have a blessed Lord's day,  :)

Thank you Chris for you input on the homeboy situation. You have said it so well.Thank you also for the devotional that you contributed to day.

Thank you Pat for your devotional also I do not want to leave you out. Thank you for the work that you punt in to keeping our website afloat. I know you also have work to do on other websites too.

This is the day the Lord hath made and I will rejoice and be glad in it.

I am so thankful for the Lord's day when we have the privilege of going into His house to worship and praise Him and to hear the message that He has given to the Pastor for us to hear today.I am thankful for opportunity to fellowship with my church family on a regular basis and to greet each of my brothers and sisters as they enter the door to the sanctuary, to serve each of them is they need me in any way. Answering questions, finding a seat for them, accepting a prayer request, whatever is the need. I love Sunday's.

As for 'homeboy' for Jesus....I even cringe when I see a person named 'Jesus'...usually a boxer!  There is only one Jesus and he is our Lord and Savior...our only means for us to enter heaven for eternity!

Church was great today.  I kept wondering if it was this dark three weeks ago while going to church and then when I turned into the parking lot, I even asked myself if it was Sunday!  (Two weeks in a row we only had one service at 10 a.m.)  But it was only 7:15 a.m. so I was really early getting to church.  After church my Small Group went to a Chinese Buffet...really nice having lunch with all of them.

Now that I am stuffed, I feel a nap coming on!!

Title: Sudden death Gospel music.
Post by: Gord Brown on January 08, 2006, 04:22:40 PM
I dont know if many of you know of  the gospel group from Conada who used to be from Bayfair Baptist church in Pickering.
The groups name is called  THE  PARKER TRIO.  and the male singer Warren Parker was suddenly killed on Saturday night in S,C. U. S.A.
It is a great loss to the group and we need to pray for his wife Shannon and the rest of the family here in Canada and the States. Thank you as I do know this wonderful group and they had led so many people to the Lord.  God Bless  Gord.

I believe the name "Jesus" was around before our Father gave His Son that name.  I also believe as Christ, the Beloved Savior of the world, He was given a common name to be called by.  He took on humanity in all its forms.  I think of that.  But still..........Jesus, Messiah, The Christ,  "our" JESUS is the name above all names.  Many speak the name of Jesus, and it means nothing.  But, from our hearts, spoken by those who love Him and live in Him, the Name of JESUS is precious.  And a "homeboy"  Jesus could never be.  That's really disgusting, isn't it?

I've had my grandson for two days, and just took him home.  I"M RESTING!!  HAHA

Thankyou everyone for your input.  I really appreciate it.

This seems to be the language of the teens of today where we live.

It is a dull gloomy evening here.  Overcast and -4*C damp.

We are expecting puppies tomorrow.  I am thinking they may come early, the way mom is behaving.  She is such a good mom, but this has been too difficult for her, as a result it will be her last litter.  We are keeping a little girl for breeding purposes.

Well time to go, again thankyou for the input on the homeboy issue.

We had a lovely day today with the dedication of our new facilities.  First there was a breakfast in the fellowship hall, then we went through the building to see all the new areas.  We had to use the gym for the overflow.  The Mayor of Nashville was there along with some other city officials.  The Governor had planned to come but there was a death in his family and he wrote a nice letter which was read to the congregation.  Everything we have was dedicated to the glory of God.  After the service we went through the building and had prayers.  I took my electric scooter and made quite a hit.

I hope you are all doing well today.  After lunch today I lay back in my recliner and slept for two hours.  I was tired out but it was good.

1 Chr 29:11-13
11   Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.
12   Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.
13   Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.
(NIV)

Hi everyone.  Not much to report from Atlanta other than it has been a delightful day with the sun shining and the temperature getting up to 64 degrees.

Following church, where we ordained new deacons and elders for the class of 2008 (they serve a three year term in the Presbyterian church) and a very good sermon on being willing to take a risk for our Savior, we went out to eat.  There were 14 in our group today and the service was very slow.  It was 3 pm when we got home and I was exhausted so had to take a nap.

I heard ya talkin' behind my back - don't think I didn't!  Thankfully, we're back!  However, I've only read through last Thursday's NEMs, so I'm still behind.  We got power back last Wed/Thurs a little after midnight. Then we got cable (TV) Friday, then telephone today.  I was sitting in my favorite chair in the livingroom when, suddenly, the telephone rang!  Since it's been a week since we heard it, it was a bit startling.  It was our daughter in Kansas City, MO calling!  Then, a little later, our son in Olympia, WA called.  Wow!  What a great way to get phone back!  Well, gotta go to the annual business meeting of the Church this evening, so I'm off.

NARDS WROTE YESTERDAY:  I have a question? What does the term "homeboy" mean in today's language.

My feeling that if a person calls Jesus Christ a "Homeboy" it is just plain wrong as it is pulling the holyness and purity of our Lord down to slum terms.  Am I wrong?

Yes, I believe there is a danger of being sacreligious assigning a name to Jesus or God that is a slang word.

The word  means in the venaculiar: "one of us."  The true definition according the MSN Encarta Dictionary is: Man or boy from the same place.  People in Detroit, (that's Dee troit, not Da troit) use it to describe one of their own kind and it's not just teens using the word.

I feel that it is not the word/name so much as it is the attitude when using the word/name.  You can swear by using the word "shucks" if you have the wrong attitude.  Maybe that is being a legalist, but...

I don't swear/cuss or use obscene words, but when I hit my finger with a hammer, I become Captain Marvel..for I utter the word "Shazam."

By the way, it's not the first time you smash your finger while doing a roof, and it is not the second.....it's waiting for the third Ouch Ouch.

SO:  If someone calls/refers to Jesus as "Homeboy."  My first reaction w.b. NO!.  My second thought would be "Where is their heart when they call Him Homeboy?"

Hello friends...

This has been a busy day for me--lying down!  LOL

My silly back has been causing me some grief but this too, shall pass.

I believe that we should be worshipful to our Master, Saviour, Lord and King and personally, I don't believe "homeboy" is that--at least for me it's not.

Now, I'm going to go back and lie down.

Hi, A!!  It's good to see your post.  ok.......now I guess we stop talking behind your back? lol

Pat, I'm so sorry about your back.  Mine has been pain free for sometime now. Does your recliner help? I do better in my recliner, when it's hurting, than in bed.

JudyB, puppies are sooooo sweet. :)
