Morning Devotional...

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.
1 John 3:1

There is deep mystery surrounding this verse.

What manner of love!

It surely is vast and wondrous that it would cause the Apostle to think, Can it really be true?

Surely this must be an impossibility, that we--sinners of a fallen race--could have any relationship with God--the God that dwells in unapproachable light, whose character is awesome in holiness and whose ways are past finding out!

Mysterious?

Yes, but true, because of His love!
--Drew Craig

How Great Thou Art (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/howgreat.mid)
(Click to hear music)

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Chorus

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Chorus

           Stripping of the garments

You had nothing left but Your own cloak:
You were fond of it, Your Mother had woven it for You. But this too, had to go.
One thing only is necessary, Lord, Your Cross.

Nothing comes now between You and the cross,
You are going to be united forever,
And together You will save the world.

And so, Lord, I must give up all these trappings which hinder
and hide me from Your sight.
This 'possessing' which stifles the 'being' in me and separates me from others.
Thus, Lord, little by little everything in my life which is not an expression of Your will must die.

I don't like it, Lord. It's a question of dying!
How demanding You are!
I give, and You want more.
I'd like to keep a few trifles,
A few trifles I cling to, and can't bring myself to offer You.

But if You want all, Lord, take all.
Strip me, Yourself, of my last garment.
For I well know that we must die to deserve life,
As the seed must die to turn into the golden grain.

Michel Quoist

"The time has come now for the Son of Man to achieve His glory.  Believe me when I tell you this; a grain of wheat must fall into the ground and die, or else it remains nothing more than a grain of wheat; but if it dies, then it yields rich fruit." John 12: 23-24.

I also want to wish you a Happy Second Birthday!!! May you be blessed this day.

To everyone else, May the Holy Spirit bring you comfort in your trials, and joy in your victories as you go through this day. Have a wonderful day in Creator's Son.

Hi everyone.  Another beautiful day here in Georgia, a little overcast but see the sun popping through.  I am going to church this morning and then at 2 pm we are attending a memorial service for a friend who passed away on Thursday.  We belonged to the same church where we used to live and have known this couple for well about 13 years.  This evening there is a special dinner at the church and we will be working on identifying what we are seeking in a new pastor.  So this is going to be a very full day.

I had a very disturbing e-mail from my granddaughter this morning that she has been having terrible migraine headaches and had an MRI last Wednesday.  She saw the doctor on Friday and was told she has a brain tumor that will likely require surgery.  It is located in the area of the brain that controls vision and speech so, needless to say, she is very frightened.  I will post a prayer request in that folder but am requesting prayers for her here as well.  She just had a new baby on February 11th and has another child who was one year old last October.

I am popping in for a minute.  Ruth Ann, I am wondering if you'd like to meet for a coffee?  I will be going through your area on Wednesday.  IM me if you are able to?

I am reposting yesterday's post.  I was in late last night. so here goes.

Hi CP Freinds. Well I made it home this afternoon and have just spent some time catching up on a weeks worth of postings. Some interesting dialoque. I find this interesting although somewhat lengthy due to my long absences.

I would like to welcome all the newcomers to CP. I see we got quite a number of them this week. Hope you folks will enjoy like the rest of us.

Had a busy week this week as I did 2 round trips to Virginia. When this happens it keeps me on the move to get it all done. The weather in Virginia was wonderful and the flowers are starting to coming up, the trees are beginning to bud and the magnoilia trees were in bloom. This is the positive part of my job. I get to enjoy about 3 months of spring and watch it move from the south to the north.
My dispatch has told me that next week I will be going to Guntown Mississppi which will bring down through Nashville and then out towards Jackson an area where I have not been to for 2 or 3 yrears. i am looking forward to this. I am trying to see if judy can join me on this one. She would enjoy it and give her a much needed break.

I was talking to Doug , my son today and he was looking for me earlier as the Company he and I work for had him take a set of trains to load, and he had never pulled trains before. For those who are not familiar with terminology, a set of trains is 2 trailers pulled in tandem behind one power unit. I have pulled these things and loved it and he has now had a taste of it as well. Apparently it went well and it seems that some of the talking I have done of my experiences served him well today, Way to go son. You can handle it. I guess I will have to watch out or you will go right on by me.

I am looking forward to having a couple of days at home before I leave again. Tommorrow is church and that is always a pleasent experience. I really enjoy our Pastor, as he is not only a pastor but also a friend. We always have a good time when we can get together.

Jenny it was interesting to see that you and I have a common interest in reading material. I find Steve Martini fascinating and have also started to read another author, Terri Blackstock, who writes a similar story line but form a Christian perspective and can be found over here in the Christian Bookstores. The publisher is Zondervan.

Pat you would have loved this trip to Virginia with all the new fresh blooms and beautiful weather. I could just picture you running around trying to get as many pictures as you could.

Well I,ll end for now but will be back this weekend. God Bless. Bonesy

Larry. Just heard about your posting regarding your Grand daughter and would like to express our concerns for you and your family and let you know that you all will be prayed for. It is difficult to pass on comments in these situations as I often find that the pat answers and statements don,t meet the needs. Just remember that in this too God has a plan and he will work His plan for the good on the big picture. We need to find comfort in the fact that He is in control of the situation and that will be reveiled to us eventually if not in this life, then in eternity. Bless you folks. Keep us your CP family posted so we can know how to uphold you in prayer. Bonesy.

Hi John,

I am back again as it's raining.  I had hoped to go for a scoot to the park this afternoon (it's 2.30 p.m. here in blighty)., anyway, I am having another visit with you all, hoping it will stop soon., It's sort of April showers early.

John I love the sound of the Magnolias in blossom and the trip through Virginia seems a dream journey.Yes I do hope Judy is able to do a tour with you.  She does need a break.  She is a hard worker. I do hope Ruth Ann will be able to meet up with you.  It will do her a power of good. She has such a lot on her plate these days.  She's an inspiration to us all John., Oh how I wish I could come along too and have a cup of coffee with you all.  Brill!!!

Thanks also for the info re Terri Blackstock.  I will have a look for her on Amazon.uk. I am catching up on Grisholm's King of Torts...don't know why I am late getting hold of this one.  He is a practising Christian.  I heard John Grisholm on the radio recently. He and his family worship together.  he gives a large amount of his money away...he was asked about this but he played it down...humility!

It appears to have stopped raining now.  I think I will get out my "warmies" and head off into the wind....if I don't get carried away.  It sure is force ten....(I think). Can't understand why my entry is again filled with leaves.

See you all later.
Jenny.

Larry.  Check out  prayer request.

There is terribly biting cold wind here today. It is + 1 *C but feels as cold as January was.  I put the dog our without a coat, and wow the dampness goes right through.

Jenny I am sorry we sent you the snow LOL  ;D :o :o ;D
I hope you don't get the cold we have now.  I really wish I could go with John , but unfortuneately I can't.  It will be summer before I can as we can't leave the house without someone in it, and Bruno can't stay outside that long.  It still is too cold for that.

Well I have to run, and eat as we need to run out to church and The time is running even if I am not.

Bye all

NEVER LET YOURSELF BE DRIVEN. :) ;)

March 14

Pastoral Ministry: Sheep Are Led

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our
Maker. For he is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and
the sheep of His hand.
--Psalm 95:6-7

Cattle are driven; sheep are led; and our Lord compares His people to
sheep, not to cattle.

It is especially important that Christian ministers know the law of
the leader--that he can lead others only as far as he himself has
gone....

The minister must experience what he would teach or he will find
himself in the impossible position of trying to drive sheep. For
this reason he should seek to cultivate his own heart before he
attempts to preach to the hearts of others....

If he tries to bring them into a heart knowledge of truth which he
has not actually experienced he will surely fail. In his frustration
he may attempt to drive them; and scarcely anything is so
disheartening as the sight of a vexed and confused shepherd using
the lash on his bewildered flock in a vain attempt to persuade them
to go on beyond the point to which he himself has attained....

The law of the leader tells us who are preachers that it is better
to cultivate our souls than our voices. It is better to polish our
hearts than our pulpit manners, though if the first has been done
well and successfully it may be profitable for us to do the second.
We cannot take our people beyond where we ourselves have been, and
it thus becomes vitally important that we be men of God in the last
and highest sense of that term.  The Price of Neglect, 151-153.

"Lord, today let me stop, step off the busy treadmill, and look to
the condition of my soul. Help me to listen to You and be
spiritually nurtured, to have my soul cultivated by You in silence
and solitude. Amen."

Larry, I will be praying for your granddaughter, too.  I can imagine the pressure this can apply to your faith, but hold strong and steady; our God is able!  (((hugs)))

I heard a really good sermon this morning by Ravi Zacharias.  He is such an humble man, with such a depth of understanding and compassion for people.  And he doesn't mince words, either!

I also listened to two other sermons.  LOts to chew on today.

Monty, I am so gald to see your posts, and to have you with us!  Wouldn't it be nice if we could all meet each other?  And we will, someday.

John, continue to drive carefully, and come ho
me safely again.

Larry, how frightening for all involved! Yes, you'll have my prayers, as well.

I'm very tired today, for we arrived in Nashville about midnight last night.

I have good news. My son in Atlanta is doing MUCH better, thanks to the prayers and doctor's visits, and to old-fashioned determination on his part and to his dear wife's loving care.

My granddaughter will be 9 on Thursday, so I drove Leslie to see the doctor on Friday and on Saturday, then we stayed over to have dinner with the family.

Mark had taken Kassie fishing on Friday (she was out of school) and they caught many crappie. She was immensely pleased with herself that she caught more fish than her dad and also that she caught the largest fish, whom she promptly named "Tugger."

Well, we ate Tugger and all his buddies last evening. She laughingly maintained throughout dinner that someone else was eating Tugger - she said he was her "best friend fish."

There was much laughter and many witty comments throughout the meal. I thoroughly enjoyed being there and seeing the great progress all in the family are making. And it was also good that Leslie was well enough to participate at the table with us. I enjoyed seeing his smiles all during the evening, too.

Oh, yes, baby Georgia was sitting in her high chair and kept looking at Mark's green beans cooing and waving her arms and trying hard to reach them. Well, the rest is quite a story. That babe LOVED them, ate a bunch, and then begged and begged so Mark took tiny little pieces of the inside of the fish and offered them to her. She really enjoyed that, too. She's still toothless at 8 months, so looked like a little toothless granny enjoying a meal. Once she was filled up, her little eyes began to droop. So, she slept the rest of the evening away tucked in her daddy's arms.

We drove home remarking about how great it is to see them doing well.

Hello Zach..

Well done.  I just got back from a ride...but it was such a cold wind that I did not stay out long brrr...I took a library  vook back to the Librarian's house.  She brings books here for me...bless her.

While I was out I saw a young man called Ryan we all pray for.  He's 19. He's kind to the young scoundrels around here. He's a chef...doens't like his job much but it is work.

My church beings Holy Communion to me on Wednesday...It is very cold in there at the moment...so on bad days I read my Bible and pray.  There was a lovely Lenten talk on the radio an hour ago which I enjoyed.

Is it cold there Zach?

I had better go and see this quiz you are talking about....O.K?

his wounds have paid my ransom. :)

Mieka, How nice to see you again.  I just wish that you were able to pop in more often to see us.

Papa John, I am pleased to see you made your destination safely.  I hope and pray also that your vacation is an enjoyable one!

Hi Kathy!

I am trying out my new Pizza Stone today from Pampered Chef.  They are all ready to go in the oven and my parents are the invited guinea pigs.   Anyone else care to join us?

And now, time to sit and relax and do some cross stitching before they arrive.

Etta Sue:  Thanks for the clickable to Southeast Church..  I read most all of the sections, includin the resume that is printed up.  They are looking fr a new Senior Pastor.  Sounds like a lot of work for him., some Pastors are expected to do so much...and for so little reimbursement sometimes.

I know for a fact., as our son was a Pastor for several years.  His pay was extremely low., compared to the other pastors.  It cost him the same to buy groceries as it did the other pastors.  e left the ministry to seek other employment.

Now in case you all think he has left the Lord...NOT SO!! In fact, he leads a Sunday School class of 75., which in some places., thats almost a small church in itself!

Etta Sue.  The church I read about is in Salt Lake City.... the one you and Ivalou are going to, must be a sister church to it., am I right?

BTW, Etta Sue.... Happy 6th re- Birth!.

Larry:  I am so sorry to read of your granddaughter's terrible migraien headache, and the tumor.  That is indeed very frightening.

Please know.... I will be praying for her, and for you and Pat., as you both must be so anxious for her.

How is her husband holding up under all this stress.  He has a terrible burden to bear now, with two little ones to care for as well.

Bless him... I will remember him as well!

Marty:  I am glad that you are enjoying it here.

Kathy:  Another welcome to you as well!

Ruth Ann, your story about "Tugger" reminded me of something similar.  Some years ago Cornelia and I were doing some work in the Ivory Coast, West Africa.  Our missionary friend had done a favor for a neighbor who gave us a chicken.  We named him "Roho." He tied the chicken to the fence for a day or two and we fed and watered him.  One day I asked a young man who worked for us to prepare Roho for cooking.  We came home from work that day and Roho was baked in the oven.  As we started dinner I said, "Pass Roho please."  In spite of our affection for Roho we did enjoy the meal.

Sue, we DID have such a nice drive down here yesterday but it was a long drive of 12 hours.  This afternoon after church we have had a good rest.  I had pizza for our supper.  It was a frozen pizza cooked in our oven here and it was very good.

Larry, we are all concerned about your granddaughter.  She is in my prayers.  We have four granddaughters and I know how precious they are.  I thought about yesterday when we drove through Atlanta.  We drove on I-75 right through the center of the city and the traffic wasn't too bad.

Judy Mc, I'm sorry your son had that problem in his ministry but I understand.  For more than 40 years I worked as a preacher and also a missionary.  We raised three beautiful daughters and sent each one through college.  Sometimes the cupboard was pretty bare but we managed pretty well through the years for which I am grateful.  Cornelia always said "The Lord takes care of those who don't have sense enough to take care of themselves."  ::)  I think she was talking about me.

And now, good night from the warm western coast of central Florida.

Hi Everyone...

I've not been on here since last night!  I had company here all day and they just left for home just a short time ago and it was such a nice day but I've missed you all.

I'm sorry about your granddaughter, Larry.  I definitely will be praying for her.

I'm so happy to see that we are welcoming a new member!

WELCOME KATHY!

Now, I'm just going to try to do a couple of my PSP lessons and then I'll be back to lock the door in here.

Like most of you, I had a wonderful Sunday.  Was able to attned both services and also, the extra choir practice we have at 5PM Sundays.  We are getting ready for an Easter cantata..but it will be held on Palm Sunday evening service.
Jenny, I wish I could send you some of this beautiful warm, sunny weather we are having here in SC.  I feel soooo sorry that you have all that cold, wind and rain.  Take care that you don't get sick going out as often as you do.

WELCOME KATHY.  What a nice name.

I hope that Etta Sue & IvaLou both have a wonderful time!  Maybe we will hear from them while they are there.

Ruth Ann  get yourself some rest for the upcoming week.  All sounds well with you and yours.

Pat

Jenny Take care when you go out into the weather.  Those winds can blow a person over!

Papa John.  Enjoy your holiday.  It is well deserved.

To the rest of the messages I have read them and there are too many to comment on individually.  I am glad y'all have had a good God day and pray you have a restful night.

There is a situation I am requesting prayer for.  A little girl has been coming to church every week to both church and sundayschool,  She has never missed.  Her mother is a lesbian, and last sunday she called the police to have this child removed from the church.  It was very sad as she has said "I want to find out more about Jesus."  We were praying she would be back this week but no, her mother has forbidden her from coming.  Pray for "T" and the family that they can be reached and the child can return. :'( :'( :'(

Well it is getting late I think I will turn the 'puter over to john and have a bubble bath! ;D

Love JudyB

Hello, all!  It seems I always get here after the sun has gone down and all of you are fast asleep  :(  I'm sorry if you think I'm never around!

Sunday here for the Shuford's was pretty typically hectic.  It's our most restful day, in a way, but it's always an adventure trying to time everything correctly so that Travis is fed, happy, and properly napped when we go to church.  If not, he's a whole different kind of adventure.

That's probably a segue to all the different opinions on church nurseries :)  I have a most unconventional attitude about them, but I won't burden all of you with my prattling.

Two things Satan attacks on Sundays - marriage relationships and children under 3.  Maybe even under 5.  Okay, three.  He also provides us with Sunday morning headaches any time he thinks it would keep us out of church.  Have you ever noticed how babies always cry during the invitation / altar call?  Have you ever talked to others and realized how many couples get into disagreements or fights either on the way to church or between Sunday morning worship and Sunday night worship?  Satan loves distracting us so that we can't worship, and he'll do anything to keep us from making any type of commitment to Jesus.

And no, Karma and I have NOT been fighting today :)  (Just a disclaimer there).

Jenny - I did NOT like King of Torts.  I think that was his worst book to date.  Just my opinion.  It seemed to have absolutely no real focal point or climax.  Sorry, I hope you like it!  Maybe you can tell me what I missed.

Well, I'm about to go to bed and sleep the day off :)

Good night all!

Hi Folks. Just a quick note to say hi and that we had a good but busy day. Church as usual was good and spent more time than usual after church talking to people. Everyone seemed to have the time today. I guess thats a good thing.

You know when I think back God has sure made some changes in me in the area of talking to peole at church and in ohter areas of my life. Some years ago I kept basically to myself but now I seem to be quite comfortable talking to people. The same thing goes for the classes I teach. If someone had said to me 15 years ago that I would be standing up in front a group as a teacher I would have said they were dilusional. But now thats what I do as a part time job.

I'm looking forward to what else God has in store for me. This is quite an adventure. Like the saying goes " God is not finished with me yet"

Well I'll close off here for tonight and get some rest, and get ready for tommorrows dept to the south again.

Gob Bless. Bonesy.

QuoteBy Gregg~Soni --- Another question for ya... Can you use any lenses with the digital rebel? Just wondering.... Cuz I'd like to be able to use the same lenses I have if I can.

I know you can use a sigma lens with the camera, but not sure about others.  What kind of lenses do you own now?

Edited to say " I just talked with some friends and they said pretty much any lens.  I guess the old sigma lenses or a few of them won't work.
