Morning Devotional...

Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
John 10:17

For this reason, among others, the Father loves the Son.

Our Lord knew that His voluntary humbling of Himself at Calvary was something that especially endeared Him to the Father. In a sublime display of grace and love, His life was laid down willingly to save unworthy sinners.

And as we sit at the Lord's Supper, redeemed by the precious blood of the Lamb, we also exclaim, "Yes, Lord, the Father loves you because you laid down your life, and so do we"!

"We love because He first loved us."
1 John 4:19

Words: William R. Featherston, 1864;
Featherston was only 16 years old at the time.

Music: "Gordon," Adoniram J. Gordon, 1876

A Protestant Episcopal Bishop of Michigan once related the following incident to a large audience in one of the Rev. E. P. Hammond's meetings in St. Louis. "A young, talented and tenderhearted actress was passing along the street of a large city. Seeing a pale, sick girl lying upon a couch just within the halfopen door of a beautiful dwelling, she entered, with the thought that by her vivacity and pleasant conversation she might cheer the young invalid. The sick girl was a devoted Christian, and her words, her patience, her submission and heavenlit countenance, so demonstrated the spirit of her religion that the actress was led to give some earnest thought to the claims of Christianity, and was thoroughly converted, and became a true follower of Christ. She told her father, the leader of the theater troupe, of her conversion, and of her desire to abandon the stage, stating that she could not live a consistent Christian life and follow the life of an actress. Her father was astonished beyond measure, and told his daughter that their living would be lost to them and their business ruined, if she persisted in her resolution. Loving her father dearly, she was shakn somewhat in her purpose, and partially consented to fill the published engagement to be met in a few days. She was the star of the troupe, and a general favorite. Every preparation was made for the play in which she was to appear. The evening came and the father rejoiced that he had won back his daughter, and that their living was not to be lost. The hour arrived; a large audience had assembled. The curtain rose, and the young actress stepped forward firmly amid the applause of the multitude. But an unwonted light beamed from her beautiful face. Amid the breathless silence of the audience, she repeated:

'My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign;
My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.'

This was all. Through Christ she had conquered and, leaving the audience in tears, she retired from the stage, never to appear upon it again. Through her influence her father was converted, and through their united evangelistic labors many were led to God."

My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign.
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

I love Thee because Thou has first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree.
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

I'll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I'll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

Hey ... I'm firstest!!

Nita, I'm so sorry things didn't work out as everyone had anticipated but I'm with you in believing that everything will work out according to His purpose for our lives.  Something similar happened here ... the guy came to put the moss treatment on my roof and it started raining just as he pulled up ... he went ahead and sprayed the roof but said if a downpour should come before the treatment had soaked into the moss plants it would probably wash off all the treatment.  Well, as you know, there was a decided downpour last night ..  And it has been raining today pretty hard at times.  It's okay ... when I call them to return in the Spring I will have them look for new growth of moss ... then they will have to redo the whole thing.  God is still in control and He knows exactly what we need and when we need it ... I love Him so much  <3

Y'all take care ... I'll be back directly .... Love and blessings in Jesus name ... have a great day with the Lord

Jane, I know things will work out for us.  Everything is for a reason. :)

I couldn't sleep again, so have been trying to watch the goings on at Pete's Pond.  Either my computer is messing up, or the webcam is still not back completely.  Maybe it's a transmission thing.  Sound goes in and out too.  I'd love to see an elephant.

Just checking in, so will leave you for now.

Good Morning: Pat what a wonderful testimony of the young actress and her father. Thank you for posting the history to that song.

Nita I had forgotten that the men were coming to work on your plumbing. So sorry to hear that there was such an awful backup.

Friday morning when I was vacuuming  my vacuum quit I thought it was the vacuum but it turns out that the wall plug stopped working, I checked the  circuit breakers and they are fine. The electrician was supposed to come yesterday to fix the light fixture in the bathroom and I was going to have him fix that socket too but he never called or showed up. That socket is the one where I will be plugging in my computer when I get it moved out from in between the sofa and the TV. I got the 10 ft. piece of cable and Gilbert was supposed to come and move it on Wednesday but I think he forgot.

Lord bless this day and bless all those who come this way. Let each of us be a blessing to those we come in contact with on this World Kindness Day. Let your kindness and mercy flow through each one of us. Amen

I amen your prayer, Marilyn. May God richly bless all who come our way today.

It's my son's birthday. I remember parts of that day and how relieved I was to learn later that night that he had been born. An inexperienced doctor almost caused our deaths, so today is a day for thanksgiving for me - I'm thankful that we both lived and thankful that even with his health problems, for the most part he is a gentle and kind son who loves me.

Y'all have a good day.

Hi everyone.  We will be leaving for church in just a few minutes.  Pat is running a couple of minutes late.  Guess that is because she made a very good breakfast for us this morning.  It is another pretty day here in Georgia.

Nita, sorry to read that the first attempt at the plumbing didn't have the desired results but sure they will get it figured out and their work won't be in vain.

Carol, I don't envy you the thought of snow and colder weather but know it is that time of the year.  I was saddened to read of the terrible tornados around Ames, Iowa.

Time to go.

Pat:  What an interesting story.

Judy:  I hope that you can find some good hard wood as well that will burn slower.  Power outages can be so inconvenient.

Nita and Jane:  Sometimes I forget that you two live so close.  That is so nice for you.

Larry:  We don't have any snow here and it ususally doesn't stay very long.  I see the computer weather service just posted a high-wind warning.  That can just be so annoying but when you are next to the foothills and mountains, that is the kind of weather that whips through here.

I was just on and Instant Messenger chat with a cousin who is in Phoenix for the winter.  She is flying back to Minnesota in December as her mother (my aunt) is having back problems & has appointments.

Enjoy your day!
Carol

My Jesus, I Love Thee..........what a beautiful hymn.  Thanks for that, Pat, and for the story behind it.

The excitement in our little church is palpable these days!  Each Sunday, we have new faces, new families.  We are about to run out of space--what an opportunity for our God to show His power, grace and love, as we continue to follow Him!

Nita, sorry about the plumbing problems.  But I do admire yours and Jane's attitudes.  May I learn to be more patient as well.  :-\

Carol, how Darrel and I would have enjoyed that patriotic program that you and Don attended!  Glad you got to hear it.

Larry, thank you for your kind words about Beth.  I will go bring her home tomorrow.  And I will encourage her to come here and post.

We are helping with the care home service again today, so it's going to be a very short afternoon.  Maybe I will try to grab a short nap before 4:00.

God bless all of you!

Hi Everyone... <3

I'm so late getting here today!  Sorry about that.

I'm so happy that you liked the story behind "My Jesus I Love Thee".  I really enjoy knowing the background of hymns and so glad to know that you, too, appreciate them.

I'm so sorry that you've had this big problem, Nita!  Regarding Pete's Pond, the parts for the satellite part of the cam won't be in Butswana till early this week.  They were supposed to have it fixed last Wed. but the parts weren't in Africa apparently.  I learned that on the Blog.

Hi Jane!   What a time you've had too with your roof!   :tickedoff:  Terrible!

Marilyn, thanks for that prayer!  :thumbsup:   Reading about your vacuum made me think of my Kirby.  The other day, as I was cleaning, I guess I sucked up something rather large--at least larger than just dust.  It started to smell awful and so I turned off the machine.  Yesterday, I turned it on and what a horrible odour.  So I took off the sweeper part and took it apart and there inside was a black jujube!  It was all melting on the belt and the belt was stuck to the wooden roller and I almost had a little fire.   :idiot:

So I took the belt off, washed it in hot water and washed the wooden roller with hot soapy water and then put it altogether again and it's all working.  Aren't I clever?   :lol:

Larry, I hadn't heard of the tornados but I haven't had the news on either.  I must check.

Ruth Ann, enjoy your day of thanksgiving and have a lovely birthday celebration with your son.

Carol, you don't have much snow?  I didn't know that.  I thought you had lots where you live.  Speaking of weather alerts, I also get them in my email and I've had several today about high winds.  So guess we're getting the same.  :'(

Hi y'all.  Sure sorry about the plumbing thing Nita.  They'll probably be able to take care of it very quickly.  Not only do such things try the patience, but they actually increase it.

If anyone's interested, I'm gong to post today's sermon in Manna for the Soul.

Good evening!  We are home from our evening service.  After church, we asked another couple if they would like to go to the Pizza Hut with us, and we had a very enjoyable time visiting with them.

In the morning I am going to drive to Dodge City to pick up Beth, so I'm not sure what time I will get in here, but I will post the NEM for Tuesday, Pat.  ;)

My goodness, look how close it is to Thanksgiving already!  It seems to me that time goes faster and faster and faster!  WOW!

Pat, it's good you were able to fix your vacuum cleaner.  What is a black jujube?  Is that candy, or some exotic snake?? :P

See y'all tomorrow!  :)

Janet It is a candy.  At least if it was here int he states it would be candy :crazy:
Good noew about beth coming home and the improvement. I hope she will post again and tell us herself how she is doing.

We had a very good season of prayer this evening. Not many people  showed up though. It doesn't take many.  It is still raining here, Happy still likes to go out and sit by the fence looking at everything out there. I think he is longing to be free to run again. No way though will I let that happen.

HAHAHAHAHA!  Janet, you have me giggling away.  Some exotic snake twisted around the rotating brushes!   :crazy: :clobber: :uglystupid:

Jujube is a great chewy candy and this was a black one the same colour as the belt and I couldn't see it as it was stuck to the inside of the belt.
