Morning Devotional...

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.
2 Corinthians 8:9

Here is a concept that escapes our understanding.

How rich was the Son of God?

He owns everything! Yet by His own act of will He gave it all up and became as poor as anyone had ever become.

Why? That we who were utterly destitute might become as rich as He is.

Such grace! That is the One we love and serve.

Are we availing ourselves of the wonderful riches of Christ?

Let us thank Him today for His abundant grace toward us.
--Crawford Paul

Out of the ivory palaces,
into a world of woe,
Only His great, redeeming love
made my Saviour go.
--H. Barraclough

"All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes,
and cassia, out of the ivory palaces,
whereby they have made thee glad."
Psalm 45:8

My Lord has garments so wondrous fine,
And myrrh their texture fills;
Its fragrance reached to this heart of mine,
With joy my being thrills.

Chorus
Out of the ivory palaces,
Into a world of woe,
Only His great, eternal love
Made my Savior go.

In garments glorious He will come,
To open wide the door;
And I shall enter my heavenly home,
To dwell forevermore.

Chorus
Out of the ivory palaces,
Into a world of woe,
Only His great, eternal love
Made my Savior go.

Dear Karma..........

Our language can indeed have many meanings, and even though we may have read another's post that was clearly written, the opposite might well have been what that person was saying.  I'm not making excuses for myself when I say I read your post and understood what (I) thought it meant.  Obvously I read it wrong.  Please forgive me for having caused you to write your beautiful apology.  No Christian could ever have said it better, or with more love.  Our Lord's Holy Spirit is always present to guide those of us who truly love Him, and we both do with all our hearts, and because of this we both can put this behind us and consider it as having never happened.

Thank you for your explination.

Rachelle..............

You are suffering the affects of "Motherhood". ;)  Others in this forum have the same affliction (bug), Judy, Karmat, Sonja, and...........

The three places most likely to catch a bug is #1, Parents at home with children.  #2, School teachers.  #3, Passengers on a plane (Everyone shares the same circulated air with one passenger with a cold).

Oh, Pat, I still love that hymn "Till the Storm Passes by".  My OASIS choir at church sings that one sometimes.  Hi Lee and Suzanne.  I see you are still up too.  I couldn't sleep so I came here to visit awhile.

Suzanne, I see you are from Arkansas.  I grew up there but have lived in NM for "eons" it seems!  We went to Arkansas in October to visit my family and some friends.  Some at Bryant, Diamond Head, Arkadelphia and Nashville.  It was a wonderful trip, the weather perfect and we had a good time.  Came home worn out though!  Getting too old for those long trips.  Hubby got the gout a day after we returned home, and now he has it again.

I hope all have a wonderful worship service tomorrow, the Lord's Day.  Maybe I should say today - as it is after midnight now.

Take care,
Janice

9.15 a.m. England.

Goodmorning everyone..
Lovely Pat thanks!
Thinking of "Ivory Palaces" brings to mind the opposite..."Prison cells" and the fact that here in England it is "Prisoners Day".  Perhaps we could spare a thought for all prisoners everywhere, that they may come to know the love and mercy of Our Heavenly Father towards them ...through the Saving blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Welcome Bamabelle and Fully Focused

Margit Get that chauvenist to take you out for Christmas dinner...He's got mothballs in his pockets!

Good morning.  I see we have a couple of newcomers!  Great to see Suzanne posting.

I am all ready to leave for church.  Jerry sent me an IM saying it is foggy out there.  I can see it through my door window as I look toward Ivalou's house.  Some say fog is 'thick as soup'.  I don't mind that.  But when it gets 'thick as gravy', then I am ready to store the car in the garage.

Etta Sue Fog Thisk as soup or Thick as gravy?  Haven't heard the latter.   Now talk to Jerry about Ice Fog!  That is a treat to drive in! ! ! NOT!  I had that "treat" driving from Michigan through to Walcot Iowa!

I am not going to list all the newbies, just say WELCOME

Jenny I enjoyed the banter.  Have a good Lord's Day all you folks across the pond.

Mornin' Ria.

Rachelle I will get Mel to check her messages, there is one already fron another friend.

Pat we are praying for you and your neighbour.

Lee great clues.  Way to go brother!

I am off to get ready for church.  Today is Lord's supper or communion.  So I need to search my heart, and prepare.

Bye for now, Blessings

Hi everyone.  In about 30 minutes Pat and I willl head off to Sunday School and  church.

I want to welcome Suzanne, Bamabelle and Fully Focused to our site and it is great to see posting already from our new folks.  That is the way to become involved and get to know the folks here.  I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area.  We have a worldwide group here of folks who love Jesus Christ and we hope that our sharing of that love through our posting, photos and other expressions will help others come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and lead them into greater maturity in the Christian walk here on earth.

Judy, sure sorry to read of your foot slipping off the brake and your little accident in the car dealership.

Etta Sue, I like your new welcome sign.  It certainly stands out.  In fact, I like all of the graphics you talented folks make with PaintShop Pro.  Hope the fog clears there before you have to get on the road.

Lee, I am going to have to concentrate on your hymn puzzle.

Pat, another good devotional message and thanks for the hymns.  I know these last days have been hard for you with your friend and neighbor being so critically ill.  I am sure your presence is a source of comfort to Larry's wife.

I know I haven't addressed everyone posting today except through my general greeting, which is always inclusive of everyone, but have run out of time so will stop for now.  May God protect each of us this day.

Hi Suzanne it is great that you are posting.  I hope we get to know you better.  It is a great place to be as you have read I am sure.  Lab tech.?  I have a friend here who is in that proffession.  She likes it.  I am not sure how you all can work nights.  I would be totally wore out.  What is your user name on DPC?

I would be at Sunday School but my baby still has a fever and had got up in the wee hours.  I am a bit tired.  I think my cold is getting worse again.  Maybe lack of sleep is the cause.  ::)  I am going to try to make it to church.

Hey karma! Do you go to practice with the church choir when you have a sore throat or a cold?

HI Lee, nice to see you posting again.  :D

Ria~Hi friend!  We don't get much fog here in our parts but if we did I would be out there with my camera just clicking away. I haven't had a chance to take pictures of fog.  I have seen some awesome photographs that have been taken in the fog.  It is my dream.  ;D
Have a blessed day! ((hug))

Nards~Good advice, thanks for the reminder. I will try hard to shine the light!   ;D

I guess, I should get upstairs and eat something.

Hi Everyone...

It's so nice to come and read all of your messages.  Larry is now back into the hospital and I expect that is where he will stay now.  It was a difficult night.  I'm just about to go  and just spend some time with Diana in the hospital lobby.  Such a sad and difficult time for her.

Suzanne, do you go to work tonight?  We'll be here so hopefully, you can login from work.

I'll be back.

I apologize if you've sent photos to post and haven't seen them yet.  I promise to get to them very soon.

A hearty welcome to the latest newcomers!!!

And, a just as hearty greeting this wonderful day of our Lord to all you oldtimers.
No reference to age, just to the fact that there is a great, familiar fellowship going on here and that for some it has been going on longer than for others, yet their welcome is extended to all, new and old alike.

Had a great service today, we are so blessed to have been guided to this church.  It was truly a service where God has free reign, the Holy Spirit was able to minister leaving the formality of the usual service behind to lead us in worship and prayer, communion and more prayer and worship, opening us to receive more of God, more Refiner's Fire, more letting go of self to seperate chaff from wheat.
The Lord spoke to us from Malachi chapter four.

And, dear Jenny, we finished out the afternoon with having lunch with friends from church, here in Astley, at the Heritage House. It was not Chris' treat, but only because he treated us all the last time we were together, so now the friends took a turn.
All this, just to say, am not good at goose catching, so I do have to count on Chris providing for the meal......hahaaaaaaaaa. If there is a chauvenistic tendency I'm sure to break it, as Chris say's I'm much a "free spirit".

Thanks for looking out for me though, tell you what, when we ever are down Birmingham way we'll both let Chris treat us.  In the meantime, find a good place where three free spirits can have a great meal and fellowship, wouldn't miss either the food nor the fellowship with you, my dear sister. God bless.

God bless you all.

In His love, Margit

          Dear Pat,
please don't overdo it, you need your sleep,
we love you and want you to be fit and well, not rundown, and overtired, sister, study the great words of this hymn, and rest in Him Who loves you so.
Our love to you, Chris and Margit.

O, this is blessing, this is rest —

Unto Thine arms, O Lord, I flee:

I hide me in Thy faithful breast,

And pour out all my soul to Thee.

There is a host dissuading me, —

But, all their voices far above,

I hear Thy words — "O taste and see

The comfort of a Savior's love."

And, hushing every adverse sound,

Songs of defence my soul surround,

As if all saints encamped about

One trusting heart pursued by doubt,

56

And O, how solemn, yet how sweet

Their one assured, persuasive strain!

"The Lord of hosts is thy retreat,

The Man who bore thy sin, thy pain.

Still in His hand thy times remain —

Still of his body thou art part;

And He will prove his right to reign

O'er all things that concern thy heart."

O tenderness — O truth divine!

Lord, I am altogether thine.

I have bowed down — I need not flee —

Peace, peace is mine in trusting Thee.

And now I count supremely kind,

The rule that once I thought severe;

And, precious to my altered mind,

At length, Thy least reproofs appear.

Now to the love that casts out fear,

Mercy and truth, indeed seem one;

Why should I hold my ease so dear?

The work of training must be done,

I must be taught what I would know —

I must be led where I would go —

And all the rest ordained for me,

Till that which is not seen I see

Is to be found in trusting Thee

Hello all!!  I hope everyone is having a great day.  Church was awesome.  Travis behaved (woohoo) and three guys got saved.  A bit WOOHOO!!  One of them had been an object of prayer for many months.  I just love it when that happens.

Lee:  ((((((((((hug)))))))))))))

Welcome again to the "newbies."  Don't worry, after a few posts, we won't call you that anymore!  :P

My name is Karma, and I'm married to Bernard (nards656), I'm also on dpc alot (probably too much :-\).

Oh yea, I bought the Purpose Driven Life last night.  There is a Mary Kay retreat in January I want to go to, and to attend we have to meet so many specific qualifications.  One of them was to read this book.  So, I am going to read it "straight through," then get a notebook and do it for 40 days, like I am supposed to  ::)  Also, the women's Bible study I meet with is considering it for out study after Christmas (we are just finishing Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby), so I should know my purpose (though I have an idea already) soon enough.  ;)

Take care all, and I hope to see youns around later!

Rachelle~I know what you mean with sickness staying in the house.  That is why I like to keep antibacteria wipes everywhere, but when one of the kids get sick we all seem to get it and with 6 in the house like you it takes us 8 weeks to get over everthing and sometimes the first one who caught the sickness to begin with gets it again or something new.  Why does it always happen around the holidays?  ???  I will keep you in my prayers. Pat, a difficult day but I am sure your presence with Dianna and family will be a beacon of light and a source of comfort at this time of loss.

We started a study of David in our Sunday School class this morning and it was so interesting that the three choir members were late to choir practice before our morning service.  We had an awesome service this morning and our choir sang "Go Not Far From Me O God" al capella.  The minister preached on Mark 13:1-13 on "The End Is Near".  After the service about 11 of us went out to eat lunch together.

A BIG WELCOME TO KAREN!! We are so happy to have you join us.....and you have great looking kids, too!  (I love kids!)  Mine are not kids any more, and now the grandkids are growing up way too fast, too!  The youngest is now 6 years old.

I want to live my life with enthusiasm!
A preacher I was listening to this morning said the word ENTHUSIASM comes from the two words "Christ" and "within"........so it literally means to live with the Lord within you!  I really like that!

Sonja, I hope Lila Mae is much better by now, and that you are, too.  Can't be bogged down by "bugs" with the holidays coming!

We went to Bethel Friends Church this morning, and the message was about debt, and how to get out of debt.  Curtis was home for the weekend, so I got some great hugs!  Even finagled a few from Mark, and of course, Abby is always lavish with hers! (My grandkids, for you who are new!)

I didn't sleep at all well last night, and am feeling the lack of it now.  Must go help Darrel get the washer, dryer and cabinet back into place!  Sure glad to have that part of the tile done!

Pat, my thoughts and prayers are with you and Diana and her family today.  ((((hugs))))

We had a wonderful service this morning,  and after church the Pastor, his wife and daughter took me out for lunch, we had a great visit and I really enjoyed myself. Between me and Regina (the daughter) we talked the pastor into having the whole church read the Purpose Driven Life and discussing it on Wednesday nights.

I got home just in time to watch the Ice Skating.  skate canada. But I missed about 1/2 of it. Drat!

On to other things for now.

I am saddened to read Pat's message where her good friend, Larry passed away. :'(  I know Pat will be such a great source of comfort to Diane., having gone through this herself. I just hope Pat gets her rest., and dosen't overdue it. :(

A very warm welcome to FullyFocused. (Karen)., :)  You can be sure, we will be referring to you as KAREN before long. :D  We are a friendly group here...don't really care for names other than what our parents' named us!!..lol (guess I'd better state thats my own personal opinion). ::)

I missed church this morning., but my husband went on his own.  For you newer members here., Norm, my hsband, has only been saved a short time., so for him to go to church on his own,is reallt something!!
(especially when he comes home, and remarks what a terrific service I missed).  I think to myself..."is this really Norm talking". ::)

Well, I'm off to do some needed chores around here., so hopefully I'll be back a little later on.

Thank you Pat for the devotional this morning... It reminds me of the song that says

"Amazing grace, how can it be
That Thou My God, shouldst die for me"

I have been away because my computer was broken.   Right now it's semi fixed.   The colour was all pink and even though pink is supposed to be a relaxing colour to paint your walls, it is very stressful to look at on your monitor.  It is now a dull white.  Apparently a wire is loose on the monitor cable.

After I read some posts, I will post again.

Larry and Sonja ~ Thanks loads for the lovely comments on my Welcome graphic.  Lots of layers there and the hardest part was finding tubes for 7 little blocks.  Of course, I like cats and coffee!  Tea for those across the pond.   ;)

Sonja ~ I took my camera this morning...as I do most every where I go.  The fog wasn't too bad...I could see a quarter of a mile or more.  It wasn't patchy fog...that is when you drive into it and can't see the hood of your car.  But there wasn't much light.  That is when the fog is pretty...when sunlight is beaming through the fog.  No pictures were taken.   :-[

Margit ~ What is 'goose catching'?  ???

Karma ~ That is great that Mary Kay requires you to read "The Purpose Driven Life".  I must not have known they were a Christian business.  Now if the name was Tammy Faye instead of Mary Kay....well.   ::) I think by January, you will know your purpose!!!

Pat ~ My heart goes out to you and Larry's family.  I pray God gives all of you comfort. :-*

Marilyn ~ I like to watch Ice Skating, too.  I know they do those moves on skates but still seems impossible to do.   :o

Church was wonderful.  Today the sermon was still on the '40 Days of Focus' but about missionary work.  Ministry work is for believers...missionary work is for non-believers.  Last week we had tables set up in our Great Hallway for ministry work...all the various ministries that our church has to offer.  This week, it was missionary work....where our church sponsors missionaries out of the country as well as our own county.  It really hit home when nine men walked down the aisle during church service and placed the flags in stands that represented the countries where we sponsor missionaries.

Between services, Jerry and I duplicated the sermon so people can take the tapes to shut-ins. That is Jerry and I's ministry.  Then Jerry and I had breakfast at Bob Evans.  I took a three hour nap on his (Jerry's, not Bob Evans!) couch while Jerry watched the NASCAR race.  Elliot led most of the race and DeBonte won when Elliot got car trouble on the last lap!  Then we went to Hardees for hamburgers.  I took Jerry back home and I came on home.  It is starting to get foggy again.

Sonja, I am trying to remember....think bold!   ;)

Hi Sonja

Pat...Please pass on my condolenses to Diane.   I know Larry and Diane were good friends to you and Jack and few years ago.  May God Bless Diane.

Friday I went to a banquet for Partner's International.   There were 230 people at a sit down dinner.   A man told his story about being in the World Trade Centre.   His office was on the 89th floor, above where the plane hit in the second tower.

He remembers a miracle happening when he stopped to pull a big man out of the rubble on the way down  and how he felt a bubble of fresh air around his head when all the others were coughing and choking because of the dust.  God gave him supernatural strength to pull out this big man.  He got out with his friend that he rescued when the tower collapsed.  He is here to tell of the miracle.   He will probably never be the same.

He said "God is still doing miracles today!"

Love Ruthie :D

Dear Pat..........

Sorry to hear about your friend Larry.  Especially because of the circumstances.  Is Diane a Christan?  If not, your task will be harder than before.  You (and all Christians) are messengers for the Lord.  All we can do is give them the Word and the rest is between them and the Lord.

Ruthie........

I did receive your message and I am very grateful for your wonderful Christian love.  I'm sorry to not have written back, but I don't know how to use IM.  Pat told me one time but didn't use it then, so it quickly passed me by. I have been writing a book for the last two years and have spent most of my winter days working on it.  I've promised myself I'd try and finish it this winter.  It's on one of our favorite subjects.

Pat:  I am sorry to read that your neighbor has passed on, I know that you will be a comfort to his wife.

Sue: I hope that you will introduce yourself to Suzanne.

A warm welcome and hello to all of our new members.

Last evening was the company's yearly dinner and awards presentation. (Years of safe driving.)  First of all dinner was an hour late ????? following that they ran out of food (garden salad & potatoes) as for the rest of the selections very little left overs for the hearty eaters among the crowd.
So much for my grumbling I rec'd a 31 year safe driving pin and I have been with the company as a School Bus Driver for the last 33 years, I have a lot to be thankful for when a safe trip is the most important part of a days work.

Time to move on

Hi Judy Mc and Heather.....I'm just getting caught up on the posts from yesterday because my computer was down.

Grover Crosby's wife is Faith and we were and still are the best of friends all our lives.   Faith sometimes says "We have known each other when we were babes in arms!"  I was in her wedding and she was in mine away back in 1959.

Faith has been a wonderful speaker for groups like Women Alive or Women who Win, etc.   When I went to the Partner's banquet, Grover was there, but Faith was speaking somewhere.   They have 4 children like I do, 3 boys and 1 girl, Paul, Steven, David, and Ruthie is the daughter.

Grover left for India with Partners again.  He has said it would be great if I would go one day and so I am praying about this.

Well I'm just about caught up with the posts from yesterday.     God Bless.

I've a home prepared where the saints abide
Just over in the glory land
And I long to be by my Saviour's side
Just over in the glory land

Just over in the glory land
I'll join the happy angel band
Just over in the glory land
Just over in the glory land
There with the mighty host I'll stand
Just over in the glory land

I am on my way to those mansions fair
Just over in the glory land
There to sing God's praises and his glory share
Just over in the glory land

Refrain

What a joyful thought that my Lord I'll see
Just over in the glory land
And with kindred saved, there forever be
Just over in the glory land

Refrain

With the blood washed throng I will shout and sing
Just over in the glory land
Glad hosannas to Christ, the Lord and King
Just over in the glory land

Hi Lee..... What a wonderful thing to do to write a book.    Just two weeks ago, Harold Fuller, a missionary and author asked me if I had ever considered writing a book.   I said that I had, but had never got going at it.  So that's another thing I need to start.

What are you writing about?   Your life story?  That would be an awesome book!  I would be the first to buy your book.

God bless,

Good evening all.  I have just finished reading all the posts for the last two days....had to take breaks in between.  Have caught the virus that has spread all over the island.  So much for flu shots!

Welcome to all the newbies.  You have found a wonderful site and hope that we will see lots of posts.  I am from Vancouver Island in Canada.

Sorry about your friend,  Pat.  Can relate as Al is getting weaker all the time.  What a strange Christmas this will be.  We have gone to Christmas functions for ages and shared so much over the years.  This virus means I will not be able to go over for awhile and can only try to provide courage over the phone.  So grateful that he is a Christian and is not afraid.

Ria, you surely do have lots of friends.  I used to paint my own cards but get Amanda to make them now.  Must speak to her about that soon....Will not be putting any decorations up as packing will be taking priority.  Think I will stick up my Christmas Teddy Bear tho'.....Wonder if packing too Carols will make the work easier??

Think I will check out the other sites now and then off to bed with a cup of hot tea.

God Bless and Pleasant Dreams.

Ruthie - I found it so interesting to read about Faith Crosby, and the lovely relationship you have with her.  I wonder if she remembers my mother....Marian Ashby from Grace Church, Niagara Falls....my Mom took me to Fair Havens several years in a row when Faith was speaking to the ladies group there.  I wonder if she still speaks at Womens retreats.  I'd sure love to hear her again.

I could not imagine where to start if I were to write a book....have any here on CP ever written a book...I'd be interested to know.

Marilyn I love skating too, but what  I did with the girls was better for us. :)

Tonight was our favourite Hymnsing night.  There are only a handful who actually go and 2 families of children.  We had an hour and 15 minutes of singing.  Pastor Jeff's wife plays, and she is soo good, much like my sister.  the surprising part of a night like this is the number of favourites the children come up with.  Absolutely an awesome time of fellowship and worship.

Melaura is staying at Bonnie's home tonight, at her request.  It will do her good to have this time with her aunt.  Bonnie spoils her, like all aunties!

Well have to close. I am falling asleep here so I am going to bed.

Night all

Judy Mc....
Yes Faith still speaks all over and I am sure she would remember your Mother.   That's the kind of person she's like.   So sensitive and caring.    Faith had cancer herself about 2 years ago, and now she is cancer free.   She gets tired though.   Needs prayer from some of God's loving people.

I would probably write a book about my life and God's faithfullness to me.  If it would help someone, it would be worth it.

Just listened to "Till the Storm Passes by"  It brings tears to my eyes.   Love that piece.

God Bless

Lee, when you get an IM, you click on the "Reply" button and type in the box that comes up.  That is how you reply to one.

BUT I'm not saying for you to click "Reply" to the email notification that you receive.  You must click on the word "messages" up at the top right of every page and reply on there.

Etta -- It's not actually the company Mary Kay that is requiring the book to be read, but my director.  Having said that, though, one of the reasons I signed on with MK is that their company philosophy is God first, family second, career third.  At first I was skeptical, and figured that it was just lip service, but the more I am in the company, the more I see that Mary Kay Ash herself truly believed it.  I also like that one of the "rules" we are supposed to follow is "Do unto others as you would have others do to you.'  Sounds familiar, doesn't it!

Anyway, I've read a few chapters.  May do some more tonight before bed.

Lee -- I am trying to write a book as well.  I got the idea about 5 years ago and kept pushing it back, back, back.  In the past few months, I have felt God gently nudging me (and sometimes not so gently) to commit and get it finished.  Mine is historical/Biblical fiction.

Pat, Dianne is definitely in my prayers, as you are.

I won't be in as much this week as I normally am.  Fortunately, the approaching holiday season is a good selling time.. . .So, I have a Mary Kay show Tuesday night, one Thursday afternoon, and one Thursday night.  It's going to be a busy, busy, busy week at the Shuford house.  I'm sure my babysitter (aka nards656) will keep you updated!!!!

Take care and if I don't get back in here tonight, have a wonderful Monday mornign!!

Well, here we are back from all the meetins.  Our brother John preached this AM on the withered fig tree in Mark 11.  Then this evening we talked about it some more.  We have three of us doing all the preaching just now.  I do two times, then Chris does one, then Jon does two, then me again.  Our regular pastor is on sabbatical 'til December.  So today was Jon.  He talked about the fruit our Lord requires us to bear (Gal. 5:22, 23).
I see some here are interested in writing books.  I hope you get them written, though the hard part is finding a publisher.
I've self published one book a few years ago.  I've almost got two more on (you guessed it) Mark and Psalms.  Don't know who would publish them.  If you think of it, pray about it.
