Morning Devotional...

And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
Genesis 41:41

The brother they had hated and sold into slavery had gone from pit to prison to palace and finally to the pinnacle of Egypt's power and prestige.

Our beloved Lord trod the same path, but in the reverse order. He went from the pinnacle of universal power to the miry pit (Ps. 40:2) of Calvary's awful shame and suffering to find you and me.

On this Lord's Day, may we gratefully remember the One whom God has highly exalted and has given the name which is above every name, our Lord Jesus Christ.
--Arnot P. McIntee

Lord, e'en to death (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/orono.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Lord, e'en to death Thy love could go,
A death of shame and loss,
To vanquish for us every foe,
And break the strong man's force.

O what a load was Thine to bear,
Alone in that dark hour,
Our sins in all their terror there,
God's wrath and Satan's power.

The storm that bowed Thy blessed head
is hushed forever now,
And rest divine is ours instead,
while glory crowns Thy brow.

Within the Father's house on high
We soon shall sing Thy praise;
But here, where Thou didst bleed and die,
We learn that song to raise.

Hi Nards-I totally believe that too-how satan tries and keeps us from being at church-I won't be able to go tomorrow for sure-but I have praise and worship music and will have to play that instead..My suspicions(sp)was right-zac has pink eye--Ick--got eye drops but it takes up to 48 hours for him not to be contagious..our older 2 girls are at other friends houses-so, my husband gets to go to church by himself tomorrw-boy he won't know what to do with himself lol.
Tell Karmat I said Hi..Ohh I wanted to ask you-what was she out shopping for ? lol...was she Christmas shopping-my husband would worry if I was out shopping all day -giggle..
Sonja -thank you for your prayers.

Hi everyone...well I kinda just signed up last week but never introduced myself.  So here goes.

I'm a high school senior living in Southern California.  My school is small and Christian.  I have been raised in a Christian home and was re-dedicated (I guess that's what you'd call it...) two years ago when I moved out here and escaped the public school where I had been slowly drifting away.  I haven't been attending church or my Bible study regularly lately, and need to get back on track.  I don't have any siblings, but I do have two dogs, Sunny and Ginger.  My boyfriend's name is Will and we have been dating for 1 year and about 2 weeks (he's away in Paris all this week for a family trip :'( ).

My hobbies are photography (obviously ;) ), yearbook, web design, tennis, and riding horses (even though I haven't actually had lessons/constant riding for about 4 or 5 years now).

I am planning on applying to two colleges at the moment, one a small Christian University and the other a huge, and famous, public one.

Um...um...anything else you'd like to know?

(Side note:  I just posted 10 new photos in my portfolio (http://amiyuy.deviantart.com/gallery/) and have another 6 for tomorrow.)

I have read all the posts and they are so joyful, colorful....really makes one feel good when you read them.  Thank you, one and all!

Jerry and I are ready for church.  I have my potato salad ready to put in the cooler.  Our small group is having a pitch-in lunch.  This morning will be fun for all.

I worked yesterday copying the lessons for Power Point and then made a .pps file.  If you have Microsoft Office on your computer which has Power Point, then you can view .pps files.  If so, send me an email and I will send you my first .pps file.  I am sure others will follow!!!

We are off to church.  Jerry says thanks for the birthday greetings.  I will let  ;) him on here later today.

I have just a few minutes as I read I am eating breakfast.  I had a phone call from Brytan this morning, He is the 3yo, and he has asked to be picked up for church.

Rochelle, I ubderstand that you cannot go with pink eye, but I ha e found too that if there is a sunday that I am not well in the Morning If I push there is something specific that I need to hear either in the message or from a friend that is pertinent in my life.  So now I go no matter what is wrong as long as it isn't contageous.  Seems that the enemy knows when there is something I need to hear.  I have often wondered how.

Time to get ready
Bye for now, JudyB

God Morning, Pat thank you for the devotional. I love the story of Joseph. He overcame so much.

Well I have looked out the window to see how the car windows look, they are iced over. HMMM I will have to try to get them thawed out in order to see to drive.

Last night Gilbert, Sarah and the kids came over for a visit. It is the first time they have all come together. Sarah brought over treats for the dogs. When Gilbert sat down on the sofa, Bebe got up behind him and tried to push him forward so she could lay down. These dogs were so funny. She even got on the back of the sofa like a cat does and laid there checking everyone out.

Well must get ready for church now.

This is the day the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Hi everyone.

In the devotional this morning related to the Bible reading for today in "Our Daily Bread" was the following:
Quote

I wonder what God thinks about the way we sing at church. I'm not talking about the quality of our voices, but the honesty of our words. If we're being truthful, the following rewritten hymn titles might more accurately express what's in our hearts as we sing:

"Just As I Am" is "Just As I Pretend To Be."
"O How I Love Jesus" becomes "O How I Like Jesus."
"I Surrender All" is actually "I Surrender Some."
"He's Everything To Me" means "He's Quite A Bit To Me."
Quote

Rather thought provoking for a Sunday monring, isn't it.  I think of how often I sing a hymn and really don't think much about the words and what they mean.

Will be leaving for Sunday School and church in a few minutes.  My sister-in-law is now visiting us and is going with us.  Not sure that Pat is going to make it to Sunday School as she had a rough night and is not feeling well this morning with the fibromyalgia pain in her back.  She has overdone this week and it often brings on the pain.  She does plan on coming to church.

A belated Happy Birthday to Jerry.  Seems I am always a day late as read the greetings from yesterday and then failed to go ahead and post.

Rachelle, sorry to hear of the continued illness within your family.

Etta Sue, happy to see you got the Power Point software figured out and how to save with both extensions.  I look forward to seeing what you have created.

Ami, thanks for telling us a bit about yourself.  I hope your participation with us on CP will help encourage you to get back into Sunday School and back on track, as you say.

We got some snow here in SW Kansas last night!  Not much, but it is very cold and icy.  Abby ran out to see the snow this morning, and in her own words "I found out the hard way that there was ice!  I fell on my bottom!"  She wasn't hurt, and I'm thankful for that.  Now, if that had been me, the story might have a different ending. :-\

Our church had their Thanksgiving dinner today, and Abby renewed her friendship with a little girl she had met two years ago.  They had fun eating together and then playing together afterward.  They are both very friendly and outgoing girls.

I am going to post some photos I took yesterday and see what else has been happening in our photo areas.

I hope all of you are having a wonderful Lord's Day.

Sonja, glad to hear the recipes turned out good! ;D :P  My pie looked really good, but only two pieces were taken from it.  I guess there were just too many choices!

Hello Everyone
When I went out for the morning paper, it was 70 degrees, when I went from Sunday School to Church it was 58 degrees and when I left Church it was 46 degrees.  The forecast calls for 29 tonight, it looks like we will have our first winter weather today. :'( :'(

I spent the last two days doing research on the word "cult"  There is no general or single definition for the word "cult" We have to look at the context in which the word is used to guess its intent.

The word is derived from the Latin noun "cultus" which is related to the Latin verb "colere" which means "to worship or give reverence to a deity".  In its original meaning the term "cult" can be applied to any group of religious believers.  Later definitions have varied from neutral, negative or extremely negative.

The meaning of the word slowly changed to that of describing a small religious group that exists in a state of tension with the predominant religion.  The word "cult" then evolved into a way of describing any religious group, which accepts most (but not all) of the historical Christian doctrines (the divinity of Jesus, the virgin birth, the trinity, salvation and etc.).

The word evolved further in very negative meaning (popular in the media) as describing a small, evil religious group, often with a single charismatic leader, which engages in brainwashing and other mind control techniques.  The Jim Jones type group comes to mind.

In the 1990-February issue of Christianity Today—(the largest Evangelical magazine in the US.)-the magazine recommended that Christians should avoid using the word cult.  Rather we should refer to the other groups of people as they refer to themselves.

In describing the other groups, it suggested use of the term "a new religious movement", "alternative religious movement", "emergent religion movement" and such terms that would have less negative connotations, as does the word "cult".

In May 1998 The Associated Press decided to avoid the use of the word "cult".

I hope I have not bored you with this, but I just had to confirm in my own mind the meaning of "cult", and since I had ask the question decided to share.

I will leave you with this somewhat humorous quote, but it does have some meaning for us.

"If you believe in it, it is a religion or perhaps the religion; and if you do not care one way or the other about it, it is a sect, but if you fear and hate it, it is a cult."

We had a God-focused service today at church.  Lots of songs, testimonies on video, and words from Pastor David.  We had one service today instead of two.  The old santuary was opened as well as the Christian Life Center and we could 'see' on the overhead what was being said and done in the santuary and visa-versa.  Technology!!!

After the service Jerry and I duplicated 24 tapes of the sermon.  We don't record the songs because of copywrites...wish we could, though.

Then we went to one of our small groups members home, Scott and Diane.  Awesome home.  Probably 40,000 sq. ft.  Way back off the road with a curving drive.  White fences with horses contained.  The house inside was awesome.  All the wood was white.  But Diane painted the family room BLACK!  But one wall was all windows, one was open to the kitchen, one wall was open stairway, and one wall a fireplace with a huge, huge mirror trimmed in white wood.  The only black was the walls...the rest of the colors toned down the black but it really looked majestic.  The kitchen, sunroom and kitchenette was all one room really.  Well, really it included the family room.  But all the walls that weren't black was a cranberry red!!!!!  The tile was black and white squares.  A very impressive home.

Now what is awesome Scott and Diane came into some unexpected money.  Scott has his own contracting business.  He and his company added a 300+ car lot at the church this week so we would have room for the 1,000+ that attended church today all at once.  And Scott and Diane donated it all to the church!!!  Now that is using money for God!

I won't tell you what my first impressions were of these two people but they have certainly changed shortly after the first meeting.  God is awesome!!

We are just home from North Bay.  We had a missionary from Brazil speaking today.  He was really good.  He knows a missionary in the Racife area and he is going to see if he can make contact with a cousin of ours down there.

After church there was a pot luck and we all ate well.  On the 6th we have our annual Christmas dinner, This is a festive time and usually there needs to be extra tables put up.

Melaura is doing better on the meds the doctor gave her.  I am being an over protective mom but I need to at this point as she is so fragile.

John has his hand operated on tomorrow.  There is a lump that is agrivated when he drives.  So please keep him in your prayers at 12:30 EST

I need to go.  John is finishing an Hours of Service course, and I need to do the 'puter work for him.

BTW Etta Sue Hoe are your hands when you go on the puter?  Have you resolved the problem?   Try a chair that will lift you higher, that helped me.

Cheerio for now, I may be back later tonight.

We had a great Sunday school lesson on Integrity, taught by one of our members who is a sheriff's deputy.

After church I came home to eat then went to K-mart to do some shopping and get food for the dogs. When I came home I checked my Bank balance on the web and I was overdraw, so back in the car it went and on to Arcata to the bank to make my deposit.

Not I am thinking of frosting my hair, I bought the kit, but I may wait until tuesday when I have more time.

On tot he other forums now be back later.

Micah 6:8.. "He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God."

JudyB.  Thanks for the evening verse.  The message as I see it, is to act justly and to give when you expect nothing in return.  Always being submissive to our God.

Our prayers and hopes are with John and his Doctors tomorrow.

Well, it is good to see each one today.

We enjoyed our Bible study this morning and then the worship.  We have early worship at  8:15, then the Bible study, and the late worship at 10;30.  We are having around 300 for early worship and 700 for the late worship with around 1,000 every Sunday.

Boots, thank you for your research of the world "cult".  It is interesting that in French the word "cult" means worship as a noun.  "Le cult"  --- "the worship."

This afternoon we went to a funeral of a good friend.  He was just 54.  Three months ago he was diagnosed with brain cancer and it went fast.

I hope you all have a good night's rest.

Well, what a slow day today on CP!

I'm just in the door.  I went to Milton and met up with Ruthie!  What a nice visit we had at Wendy's.  We both had a baked potato and lots of good conversation!

Really great to see you, Papa John and Boots!

Nope, Rachelle, I forgot to post your photos.  I'll do that tonight.  Sorry about that. Great that you gave me a nudge!

Sounds like you'll look good, Marilyn.  I've never done anything to my hair by myself.  I'm afraid it might turn purple or green with tangerine spots!!!

Hi Janet!  Lonely day in here.

Hope you enjoyed your church service, Larry.

Sorry that John needs surgery, Judy!  I'll be thinking of him.

Etta Sue, do you really mean 40,000 square feet or 4,000?  My house is 980 square feet and my son's in-laws have a huge house that is almost 3,000 square feet.  It has 5 large bedrooms and two living rooms and a massive kitchen with over 25 cupboards in it!

Thank you Pat for that devotional....   I am reminded of the song that says "Amazing love, how can it be, that Thou My God, shouldst die for me".....  To think that Jesus came from the Ivory Palaces into a sin cursed world because He loved us, enough to die for us.      Praise His Holy Name.

God Bless

.....When my car windows are really iced over, I turn on the defrost and then get a pail of warm water and throw it on the window.  In no time it is de-iced.   Make sure it's not too hot.

It is amazing that you have ice on your window and we are having lovely sunny warm weather in Canada, like spring.   I'm sure it won't last though.

Yes, Ruthie and I grew up together.  We always lived two streets away from each other.  Of course back then, there was no street between us but a big field and we (her family and ours) took turns cutting a path through the fields to each other's homes.  Now it's two blocks away!

When we lived in Ireland before Janice was born, Dad was coming over from Canada for a visit and we went up to Larne to meet him getting off the boat from Stranrar and lo and behold, following my father off the boat was Ruthie!  What a humungous surprise that was for me!  Imagine having my cousin come to visit.  She was carrying a massive bouquet of flowers too and I'll never forget that as long as I live.  We had such a wonderful visit for the time they had.

Ruthie, remember the B&B in Creeshla in Co. Donegal where the mattress and bed springs fell through to the floor when I sat on the bed and me down with them?  Jack ran down and told the lady in a rather complaining voice that the bed had fallen apart and she said to Jack, "Augh, never mind lad!  Don't worry about it!  It happens all the time!"

Yes Pat, I remember Ireland....we had such a good time!   It was so funny when the bed broke and the spring went crashing to the floor!  We travelled all down through the south of Ireland.   I enjoyed it so much.

I remember too the picture that was taken when you saw me walk off the boat. You were so surprised.   Both you and Jack had your mouths open so wide!  I should see if I can find that picture and post it on CP.    A lot of my pictures of Ireland were in slides.

Great seeing you again today Pat.

Hello all!  Sorry I haven't been around for a while.  I've had a headache off and on (right now it is off) since Friday morning.   :-\  The computer screen seems to aggravate it some, so I am trying to limit my time looking at it.  I reckon it is time to go "see" the eye doctor.  Yuck.  Of course a headache for three days is pretty "yuck" too.

Hi Amy! I hope to see a lot more of you in here.  Pretty cool group of people, even if we are old.

Yipppeeee

I finally got my cookie press to work.  I have tried it several times and just never could seem to get it right.  The cookies just seemed to come out like lumps.  This time they actually had some shape to them.  Maybe I won't throw it out after all!

I also made the cookies so that I can put together a "tree" to take for dinner when we go to my girlfriend's next Saturday.  I will put the "tree pieces" (they are actaully star shapes in varying sizes) that are stacked with icing to hold them together.

Now I am pooched, so will just read a bit more and then call it a night.

I hope that everyone has had a good day, and that it will carry over into the next week.

Rachelle, it really depends on what features you want/need and what you need it for.   I really, really like my sony707, but it can be pricey to some budgets.  I would recommend taking a look at www.dpreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com) .  They give side by side analysis for most cameras.

Time for me to go to bed, now, I think.  Good night all.  "SEE" you tomorrow.

Rachelle

I use a sony DSC-S70.  It is a great camera, but it doesn't have an optical zoom.   >:(  I think 6x optical zoom is a really good factor when looking for cameras.  I know there is quite a few cameras out there that have that. Make sure the pixels are above 3.  Another question to ask yourself , is do you want to take close ups, like macro shots.
If I were/was ???, I would ask myself why I wanted the camera, how much money I am willing to spend, is this going to take over my other camera, and do I want this camera to last awhile?

Hope you figure something out.  If you need anymore help, just holler.  :)

I had a fun day.  It was tough getting 6 people ready for church this morning.  I got up at 7:00am and thought it would be enought time, but nope it wasn't.  I got Chandraya off to church at 9:00am (we live a block from our church) and me and the rest of the family didn't make it till 9:20am.  Just in time to practice our songs.

I was nerves at first, but got the hang of it once I got up there to sing.  Troy and Chandraya were also a part of the Thanksgiving special.  I was one proud mama!

We had a great feast after service.  Troy made apricot glazed meatballs and cranberry/walnut stuffing.  It was really good.  The meatballs were a hit.  I am not much of a turkey eater. ewwww....!  They had like 4 turkeys.  Yuck! They did have some good ham there.  mmmmmm...my favorite!

The kids are starting to practice for the Christmas play now.  Sounds like it will be fun.  I think Troy will be singing with 2 other guys his age.  That will be interesting.   ::)  Don't get me wrong he is a great singer but he is so shy.  We'll just have to see.  :D

Lila Mae stayed in the daycare for the first time in a long time and she did alright until the older boys got in there and started tearing things up.  What is up with that?  grrr....

Anyway I am going to bed I will speak with you all tomorrow.  Just to let you know i did read most of what was said here I just don't have a whole lot of time to reply to all you.  I am praying for you Karma. I know how you feel.

Love you all
Sonja

Oh, I'm tired tonight.

I'm off to bed right now.

I posted your photo, Rachelle.  Maybe you can go and post about them?

Just reading back through today's postings, Larry's really meant a lot to me.  I'm going to repeat it here...

Quote
"Just As I Am" is "Just As I Pretend To Be."
"O How I Love Jesus" becomes "O How I Like Jesus."
"I Surrender All" is actually "I Surrender Some."
"He's Everything To Me" means "He's Quite A Bit To Me."

I hope that we can all sing the true versions of these hymns.
