Morning Devotional...

Failure and Success:
True Greatness

Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave.
--Matthew 20:26-27

The essence of His teaching is that true greatness lies in character, not in ability or position. Men in their blindness had always thought that superior talents made a man great, and so the vast majority believe today. To be endowed with unusual abilities in the field of art or literature or music or statecraft, for instance, is thought to be in itself an evidence of greatness, and the man thus endowed is hailed as a great man. Christ taught, and by His life demonstrated, that greatness lies deeper....

While a few philosophers and religionists of pre-Christian times had seen the fallacy in man's idea of greatness and had exposed it, it was Christ who located true greatness and showed how it could be attained. 'Whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.' It is that simple and that easy--and that difficult.
Born After Midnight, 50.

"Lord, this truth is indeed contrary to the philosophy of the world-which the church has unfortunately bought into. Stimulate my heart this morning to desire this true greatness-for Your glory.
Amen."

Hi everyone.  Another beautiful and crisp day here in Georgia.

Pat, that devotional is outstanding.  I think it so well reflects the difference between the worldly and the Godly.  When I think of the people I really admire and have over the span of my life it isn't those with money, power or prestige but those who have taken the time to be my friend, to help me when I needed it or who served others without concern for getting something in return.  Thanks for sharing it today.

Today is a special day as our daughter was a guest in our home last  night. It has been three months since she left home and what a turn around in her.  She is going to go to church with us today and I didn't know if I would ever see this day.  Needless to say my heart is singing.  This is the first time she will have been in church in many years.  She appears to really be turning her life around.  We will take her back to her apartment later this afternoon.  After church this morning there is a special luncheon for seniors and we have a comedy speaker.  Our daughter is attending with us.

Marilyn, I hope you are feeling much better today.  Sorry you had to miss your meetings at church but you probably made the right decision.

Nita, my wife loves to work on jigsaw puzzles and at the big senior center here in our county they always have one in the works.  Sometimes she goes there and works on one with some other folks.  Glad your little Rocky is much better.

Janet, hope you get to see Abby soon.  At her age they grow up so quickly.  Among my fondest memories of childhood are my many days spent with my grandmother who never saw me coming without extending her arms in welcome for a big hug and one in return.  Janet, that sounds like an interesting painting technique.  Hope you will share a picture with us when you have it finished.

Etta Sue, Cracker Barrel is always good but they serve very large servings.  They always require you to walk through the gift shop to get to the restruarant.  Glad you enjoyed the musical presentation at your local highschool.  It is amazing what wonderful things are young people can do with proper guidance and instruction.

I hope everyone is able to get to church today if you had planned to go. Let's enjoy each hour that God has granted us today.

This is from a daily devotion in my email.  It is comforting.

QuoteI will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding
.
Jeremiah 3:15

I say, Bring on the shepherds, our family can use a ton of them.

Pat:  The sermon last night concerned just this message you wrote for devotions today.  Thank you for your good works.

Judy Mc:  Welcome back!  A fourth hip surgery - this has to be the ultimate and I hope and pray it is your final hip replacement.

Larry:  Such nice news concerning your daughter.

Marilyn:  Good idea to stay home until you are totally well.  Take care.

Carol

Praise the Lord, Larry!!!!  May the Holy Spirit descend upon her with all of His Glory and fill her with His Love.

Two archeologists were searching through some Greek ruins.  They came across a giant Greek urn.  It was full of coins.  The one commented to the other, "Do you know why they might have put the coins in there?  The other said, "Yes, long before Ben Franklin they knew that 'A penny saved is a penny urned."

 good one Al.

Good Morning Well I am still sneezing my head off  from time to time.  ??? Again I slept very well last night surprisingly so. I got up feeling real good almost good enough to go to church. Then I started the sneezing and the nose filled up again so I took some more Comtrex.

I sure didn't want to miss today's sermon The pastor is preaching on Tithing today the 4th in his series on giving. I always love to hear the sermons on the principals of tithing.

I was surfing the web yesterday and I believe Pete's Pond (http://www9.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/wildcamafrica/index.html) is back.  I know we all enjoyed seeing and hearing the wild animals in the past.

I have also been playing around with PSP and discovered 'Picture Frames'.  Or I should say rediscovered them.  Also I took some pictures on my camera but the Memory Stick was still in the reader.  So the pictures were on the 32mb in the camera.  I had to get out the instruction book to see how to get them to my computer.  I needed the CD...I looked and finally found it.  Then after some installations, I got the pictures into my computer.  That's when I started playing with PSP.

I had a 'why can't I get to sleep' night last night.  Even got up and watched TV for an hour and went back to bed at 2:30am.  The alarm went off and I went back to sleep.  So no church for me today.

I called my friend, Judy, to see if she wanted to go out for breakfast but she had already eaten.  So we are going out for dinner tonight at a steak house.  Sounds delish!

Larry, I am rejoicing with you today!  And praying the changes for good continue!

Etta Sue, maybe you should have set your alarm to go off about 11:30 PM.  ;)  I often have those can't sleep nights, sure do not enjoy them.  Last night was the third or fourth in a row, and I realized that it is because I can't get my mind to quiet down.  Things I need to do keep buzzing around in my head, so last night I got out of bed, got Darrel's little flashlight so I could find something I needed to work on,( so as not to wake him) and took it into the dining room and did it.  Then I was able to sleep.

We had a guest preacher today as our pastor is in Houston attending a Joel Osteen conference.  And MY!!  What good preaching!!  It was wonderful!  She will speak again tonight and I am excited to hear what else the Lord has for us.

Carol, you always have encouraging words.  Thank you.

I think I will get off here and call my Abby!  :)  Larry, I cannot imagine greeting any of my grandkids without opening my arms to give a receive a big hug.  Grandkids are great!  I never had grandparents around when I was young, and always envied my friends who did.

That may be what YOU earn, but, for me, a Greek (Roman, English, Irish, Scotch, German . . .) urn is what I drink coffee out of.  That's the real reason it has to have money in it - I drink up all the previous change.  And I do it very drachmatically.

A very quiet day today.  Church this morning was wonderful, came home and napped most all alfternoon.  I woke up in short stretches, caught bits and pieces of television shows.  Had some dinner and then went out for a coffee, and now time for bed.
