Morning Devotional...

"And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place" (Luke 9:10).

In order to grow in grace, we must be much alone. It is not in society that the soul grows most vigorously. In one single quiet hour of prayer it will often make more progress than in days of company with others. It is in the desert that the dew falls freshest and the air is purest.--Andrew Bonar

Alone In The Desert

"Come ye yourselves apart and rest awhile,
Weary, I know it, of the press and throng,
Wipe from your brow the sweat and dust of toil,
And in My quiet strength again be strong.

"Come ye aside from all the world holds dear,
For converse which the world has never known,
Alone with Me, and with My Father here,
With Me and with My Father not alone.

"Come, tell Me all that ye have said and done,
Your victories and failures, hopes and fears.
I know how hardly souls are wooed and won:
My choicest wreaths are always wet with tears.

"Come ye and rest; the journey is too great,
And ye will faint beside the way and sink;
The bread of life is here for you to eat,
And here for you the wine of love to drink.

"Then fresh from converse with your Lord return,
And work till, daylight softens into even:
The brief hours are not lost in which ye learn
More of your Master and His rest in Heaven."

Blessings in Jesus' Name this Lord's Day.

Thank-you for the lovely posting this morning Soni....Dear Mrs. Cowman.  I read her devotionals each day, (together with Oswald Chambers and Chas. Spurgeon) I recently bought Streams in the Desert No 5 from Amazon Marketplace.  It is such a comfort. I already have No 2 and am looking out on Markeplace for some of her others.  They are out of print now but some older used copies can be picked up reasonably on Marketplace.  It is not the state of the book that matters but the richness of it's content.

                        Re Our Judy McKenna:-

Judy asks me to inform you all that she is having serious problems with her computer and that she will get back to us as soon as possible.  I understand that Pat is going to give her some advice later. I hope it gets sorted soon.

I was listening to the radio in bed this morning and ehard a lovely Sam Cook number which spoke to me.  I don't know the name of the song but I thought Pat or one of you might do. Any ideas please?.

I caught some of the words:-

"It's been a long time coming
but I know my chance goin' to come

I go to my brother and I say "Help me please"....

It's been a long time coming
but I know my chance goin' to come."

and something about 'a river'

God Bless all.
Jenny.

                  A Word from The Lord

"I will give you my message in the form of a vision,
Write it clearly enough to be read at a glance.
At the time I have decided my words will come true.

You can trust what I say about the future.
It may take a long time,
but keep on waiting -
It will happen!

I am all ready for church and ready to go out the door.  Some strange white stuff is on the grass and ground and limbs and ornaments.  What could it be?????  AND I noticed it is only 34 degrees F!!!!!  Better get my jacket out!

I am praying that everyone has a great day spending time with fellow worshippers in God's house of their choice.

Good Morning. Soni than you for the devotional today.

Jenny thank you for the Word from the Lord. I am waiting! The Lord has heard my prayers and I am trusting in Him.

This is the day the Lord hath made and I will rejoice and be glad in Him. Rejoice and again I say rejoice.

I am so much better at wrriting than I am at talking, so I wrote a nice letter to my Pastors and will give it to them today.

Must get ready for church now so  will be back later.

Good morning, friends,

I thought I would be too tired to attend worship today, but awakened refreshed after quite a lengthy rest last evening.

So, now it's time to go to church. Y'all have a good day in the Lord.

Failure and Success: The School of Failure

As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear
Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.
--Psalm 103:13-14

For some of us last year was one in which we did not acquit
ourselves very nobly as Christians, considering the infinite power
available to us through the indwelling Spirit. But through the
goodness of God we may go to school to our failures. The man of
illuminated mind will learn from his mistakes, yes even from his
sins. If his heart is trusting and penitent, he can be a better man
next year for last year's fault-but let him not return again to
folly. Repentance should be radical and thorough, and the best
repentance for a wrong act, as Fenelon said, is not to do it
again....

Brother Lawrence expressed the highest moral wisdom when he
testified that if he stumbled and fell he turned at once to God
and said, "O Lord, this is what You may expect of me if You leave
me to myself." He then accepted forgiveness, thanked God and gave
himself no further concern about the matter.
The Warfare of the Spirit, pp. 102-104

"Oh Lord, some of us have graduate degrees from this school! Help
us to learn well from our failures, to accept Christ's
forgiveness, and to move on. Give victory for today, I pray, in
Jesus' name. Amen."

God bless you, and everyone, on this beautiful Lord's Day!

Hi.  I'm just checking in.  HI JANE! :)

We are having a sunny day here on the Oregon coast.  I look at how my grass has grown, hear the neighbor  mowing his.  I really need to get it cut before it starts raining.  I thought I'd do it today after church, but we were there longer, and now I've eaten lunch and am sleepy. haha

Maybe I'll just take a wee(as Pat would say)nap and get to the mowing tomorrow.

Have a blessed rest of the day everyone.

Janet

Good afternoon!  I was away Friday and Saturday, got home before midnight last night.  I went to Wichita with friends from church to their annual Ladies Retreat.  We had some wonderful services!  It was a great time of refreshing.

Then this morning, the Holy Spirit was ministering so strongly in the service, that the pastor didn't preach, but prayed for many of the people there.  We are heartbroken that this lovely couple who have only been our pastors for six months are leaving us.  He feel called to go back to school and become a teacher of pastors.  They plan to move to Florida.  We are having an appreciation fellowship meal tonight for them, but still praying God will speak to them to stay.  We have all come to love them so much in the short time they have been with us.

We drove over to Hugoton after church, had lunch with Diane and Jeff, Mark and Abby, and brought Abby back home with us.  She is sitting here on the floor thoroughly enjoying the puppies.

Beth went to church with us this morning, and the pastors prayed for her for quite some time.  Her legs are refusing to bend at the knees now, which is making things more difficult for her.  I found them pretty hard to bend, to get her into the car, too.  I'm praying for strength and for God's mercy.

I need to spend some quality time with this lovely little girl, will be around maybe later, if not, it will be Tuesday.  Darrel has an appointment with his cardiologist in Amarillo tomorrow, and we have to leave early enough to have Abby at school by 8:15.

Hi there, dear Nita!  So good to see you, and a belated Happy Birthday to you!  Hi, Jane!

Blessings to all of you, my friends.

Thought I'd pop in for a few moments.  For some reason, I am running out of memory.  I've done some deleting...I'm just hoping that I haven't deleted things that I don't mean to.  However, I have called a young fellow from our church,; he assures me that he can help me with this problem, so I am picking him up from school on October 12th.

Oh Janet - isn't it sad when a Pastor that you really love, decides to leave.  At least, its not because he is dissatisfied with his congregation.  Perhaps he will have a change of heart, and decide to stay.  Six month sure isn't very long....he would hardly know anyone at all.

We had a joint communion service this morning with our Chinese brothers and sisters.

Janet, it just breaks my heart to hear that about Beth.  I will keep praying for her.

Marilyn

Janet I will keep on praying for dear Beth.

I went to look at a trailer that a couple for church is selling very cheap, But I am not going to take it. Too many things need to be fixed and it is a 1973. I wouldn't be happy in it.

Good to see all of you who have posted today. We had an excellent service this morning. The Holy Spirit was present in a big way. There were most of the congregation went to the altar for one reason or another. The message was on receiving the fullness of the Holy spirit and was definitley a pentacostal message.

Papa John

I will just drop in a minute tonight to say hello to everyone.

We really had a good period of worship this morning.  The sermon was excellent.  Afterward a group of about forty of our senior group had dinner together.

It is always good to be home after being away for awhile.

Cornelia and I in our nightly Bible reading have passed over into the New Testament now.  Last night a part of our reading was:
Matt 5:43-48
43   "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
44   But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45   that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
46   If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
47   And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

48   Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.  (NIV)

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Janet

We had a nice time of fellowship with our sweet pastors tonight, but they are still leaving us tomorrow.  Our hearts are sad at the parting, but we feel God has another pastor for us, we will just have to find him.  It is always sad to say farewell to people you love, but it's not forever!  We will be together in heaven, and hope to see them here on earth again, if God tarries.

It is time to get my Abby to bed and read her a book.  She's reading pretty well by herself already.  Her Mom told us today that Abby had a spelling test in school, and the words were listed after the days she was to learn them, like Monday:  it, cat, etc.  But Abby thought she was supposed to learn to spell the days of the week, so she did!  She wrote all of them for me.  So she's ahead on her spelling.  ;) ;D

Thank you all so much for continuing to pray for Beth.  I am so distressed about her.  It's the hardest test I have faced as a Mom.  And I have to try to hide my pain from her, and from Darrel, too, because it makes him feel so bad, and there isn't a way for him or I to help her.  I appreciate your prayers so much.

I am feeling weepy, and need to put on a happy face for dear little Abby.  The Lord is dealing strongly with my heart, to just trust Him.  Part of the lessons we had this weekend, the question was asked over and over:  Can He trust you to trust Him?  I want to be able to say YES with all my heart.  I am feeling so hungry and thirsty for more of Him.  So I will continue to press in.

See you all on Tuesday!

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Once again I am late getting to CP.  We went to Sunday School and church and then went out to eat.  A couple of the men had meetings after church so their wives went with us and Pat and I then took them home after we had enjoyed a great time together over a delicious meal.  We had a really long church service as we had reports from our Hondurus Mission Team, a report from a young lady who had recently returned from Belfast, Ireland, where she had served as a missionary, and finally a brief presentation about a special event to raise funds for a Counseling Service that our church supports where the counselors are all ministers that have counseling training and are licensed as such.

I was so tired when we got home around 3 pm that I took a nap for a couple of hours.  Then started working on Pat's computer again and am happy to say that I finally found the problem and solved it and she is now on the Internet and so we can finish installing the software.  I did the critical updates for the software and she is installing some of her quilting programs.  Will have a couple more hours of work tomorrow and then it should be in good shape.  I sure was relieved to get the problem solved.

Tomorrow is the last class for our Database class I am helping with at the computer learning center.

Janet, so sorry to hear that you are losing your pastor.  There seems to be a lot of that going on.  We are still in the process of trying to call a new senior pastor.  Also so sorry to read that Beth continues to get less mobility.

Sonja, thanks for the devotional thoughts for today.

I am going to be brief tonight as it is past my bedtime.

nards656

Just a quick hello... we've been having another struggle with our internet connection, but it seems to be working now.  Fingers crossed.  (I know, that's a superstitious statement, and I don't really do it - it's just my way of saying I'm wishing for the best.)

Hope all of you had a good day.

Did I tell you that I poured Sprite in my new laptop at work on Friday????  Not a good day.  Whaddan idiot.  :(

Bye for now!
I survived open heart surgery.... :)
