Janet: Hello, Friends!  Let's get this going again!  I miss  hearing from all of you! 2025-01-23, 19:26:16

Don: Hey Judy, It's been a long time. Hope you are doing well. 2024-12-02, 22:41:41

JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Oldiesmann: So sorry for your loss Carol. Praying for you and your family :( 2022-05-01, 17:13:05

Morning Devotional...

Are Angels Just for Kids?

"Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"
(Hebrews 1:14)

Most of us heard about our guardian angel when we were just children; and, in those days, it was a comforting thought. With monsters lurking behind the closet door and creepy things crawling beneath the bed, it was good to know that someone was there to protect us when the light was out.

But, as the years passed, we outgrew our childhood fears. The imaginary creatures that had once seemed so real disappeared from our minds--and sadly enough, for most of us, the angels did too.

But angels are not just kid stuff. They're powerful spirits sent forth to minister for us who are heirs of salvation.

The word salvation in Hebrews 1:14 is from the Greek word soteria meaning deliverance, preservation of material, and temporal deliverance. Think about that! God has created vast numbers of gloriously powerful spiritual beings for the express purpose of protecting us and delivering us from the evils of this world.

And remember, according to Psalm 103:20, the Word of God is what puts those angels in action. So when you're in trouble, don't cower and cry about how awful things are. Speak the Word! Give your angels something to respond to. Then be patient and let them have time to work. They'll get their job done.

Thank you for that, Janet.  The Greek word angellia/angelos actually means "messenger," and they are indeed messengers from the Throne of God.  They are sent to protect us, and they are sent to inform us of wondrous events, such as the coming of our Lord.  Oh that we were like them in faithfulness of service!

Marilyn

Good Morning. Good devotional Janet  and thank Al for adding to it.

Not much is new here today, it seems that my posts are not of much significance even to me just babble about my work and my life.

The Revival starts on Sunday and lasts until Wednesday. This guy Craig Lorick is too loud, Why do they all have to be so loud.   Last time he was here it was so loud that it just came out garbled and one could not understand what he was saying.  I am so glad that I bought the ear plugs to protect my hearing and my head. Just loud doesn't bother me but TOO loud gives me a migraine that lasts for at least two days. Our worship team has gotten to be TOO loud lately.

Great devotional this morning. I do believe in anglels.
Its a beautiful sunny day here today.
I am excited in the things of God.
The Lord has been speaking to our church about using our gifts and talents in the work of God.
In this busy day we live in we have to keep our prorities  right and remember we have been called into the kingdom for such a time as this.
We need to use our gifts for the glory of God.

Thanks Janet, I recently read that in "Faith to Faith" It's a great devotional! Peace, Ritz.

This cat is about how I felt earlier this morning.

Larry and everyone else ~ I don't notice a musty smell but then I am here all the time.  I do have an air purifier upstairs that I am sure helps.  BUT this morning the water softener was regenerating and it sounded loud.  I went to the basement and it sounded like water was going into the water on the floor and looked like more water than yesterday.  So I put on my boots and sure enough, the hard plastic hose from the water softener to the drain is broke.  All the water was going to the floor.  So I called the plumber again.  Now I am waiting for them to come.  I told them I wanted the drain opened, the hose on the softener fixed/replaced and then when it is dry, a submerged sump pump put in!  I am tired of this!

And the new sump pump that I bought yesterday isn't working!!!!  I think it needs primed and it has to be 2" of water to prime!  And the old one has to have 5" of water.  Woe is me!

Sometimes I think I should sell this house and move into an apartment.  Then I think of the positives of living here and forget the negatives.  But right now the negatives are too much and too costly to forget.  This time next year, maybe, just maybe, this will all be a memory!

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  We had a very nice time at the Friday men's coffee at the local senior center.  One of the men was celebrating his 67th birthday and brought in a delicious pound cake to share.

One of our coffee pots got clogged up and overran onto the cabinet.  Fortunately we spotted it before it got off the cabinet top and got it cleaned up.  Guess the little hole that lets the water through had gotten clogged in making the second pot.  No damage.

Today the housekeeper is here.  She normally comes on Monday but has grandchildren that see looks after and something happened to the babysitter.  It really has worked out well as our out-of-town visitors arrive tomorrow afternoon late and the house will be nice and clean.  Pat had been working on a new quilt on the dining room table and finished it this morning so we were able to put the dining room back into shape.

Janet, as I read your comments about your grandson.  I think I have an insight for you based on my experience as a grandson who dearly loved my grandmother.

I just liked being with her whether we "did" anything that particular day.  Some of my fondest memories are of my visits to her house but I really don't remember anything memorable we did although occasionally we would play games.  The main thing she did was to always have her arms open when we arrived and gave us a big hug.  Sometimes that was a "sweaty" hug when she had been working in her kitchen or the house was very hot in the summer and it was before air conditioning.  She has been gone many years but I still miss her greatly.  However, I am confident that she will be in heaven to greet me with those open arms just as Christ will be.

Janet, I just know from your comments here and the sense you leave through your words and many acts of concern and kindness to others that you are the same type of grandmother.

Marilyn, it sounds like the owners of your house had better get an electrician there to see why your dryer is casuing the circuit to trip.  I also want to assure you that what you are doing each day is interesting.  After all these type of comments are little windows into our lives.  I understand your comment as I also feel that way when week after week I post about doing the same things but that is what makes my life full and rewarding.

Meloday, very nice comments.

Al, thanks for adding your insights into the fine devotional that Janet posted today.

Karmat, someday you will get rested up and you will look back and sort of wish your children were at this age again as they provide so many rich moments and memories making the work all very worthwhile.

JudyB, glad you were able to sell your puppy but sure it was hard to see it go up the driveway.  It sounds like you will be in the puppy business for sometime.

Ritz, thanks for posting the special photo.

Hi Keven and Ruth.  Pat, hope there is nothing seriously wrong with your computer.

Etta Sue, this too shall pass.  Hope the plumber gets there quickly.  You have had quite a terrible time with your basement.  Sure don't need more water down there.

Guess I had better get busy on some other things as the morning is about gone and I haven't been able to cross anything from my "to do" list.  I did get quite a few things done yesterday.

Liz

Thanks for the interesting devotional, Janet.  It is comforting to think that we are being watched over.....today's world seems to be a battle of Good versus Evil.

I am not usually on the computer this time of the day.  Restless and not quite able to settle on getting my day started.  Misty was not anxious to go outside as it is all wet out there.  Sun is out and so is she.....

Wendy and I were outside last night trying to do a good turn.  Sad sight as we are not very spry....Weeded the other side of the kids hedge as the folks next door are trying to sell their house.  Ran into trouble helping one of their kids and now are forced to sell as he lost the business and they are stuck with the debt.  They are seniors and having some health problems....also not gardeners!  The saying 'No Good Deed Goes Unpunished' is accurate....my body hurts >:(

Don't ever change, Janet.  My daughter loved her Grandparents so much, and they became very strange in their last yrs.  Turned backs on Christianity and became leaders of a cult.  When he died, she and her money were totally under the influence of my ex and he ruined the closeness between her & Wendy.  Kept her away from everyone possible.  Wendy has still not gotten over the terrible way her Grandma died and the part her dad played in it.  So love your Grandkids forever.....because they never forget.   Love does not come with a price tag.

Marilyn, I find your posts very interesting.  Reading about how other Christians think and spend their time is important.  Christian fellowship is not easily found these days and it is nice to know that others are around....

Was reading the Times Magazine this morning and see that Mel Gibson is making another movie...even more brutal.  Guess there is money in that sort of thing.  It is about the Maya civilization and why it was doomed.  Think that I will pass on that.....

Time to go and do something useful.  This was in Daily Bread today:

What will you do with Jesus?
Neutral you cannot be;
Someday your heart will be asking,
"What will He do with me?" —Simpson

Wonder how many think about that?  Etta Sue, your graphic cat and I seem to be on the same wave length today! ::)

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Liz
CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Janet

Friday again already!!  Wow!  Tonight our ladies retreat begins, and we are all praying for a wonderful time in the Lord, with a lot of people attending.

My boys say they want to go to the museum, so I will be taking them in a little while.  Larry, thank you so much for that encouragement.  I love my grandkids so much, and really want them to have good memories of the time they spend with me.  The 17 year old tries to act like he doesn't want me loving on him, but I notice he always has a big smile on his face when I hug him.  ;) ::)

My sister from near Emporia is in town, putting new siding on our youngest sister's house.  So we went in and visited with her last night.  Always good to see her, and we don't get together nearly often enough.

Etta Sue, I do hope you get those plumbing/basement problems all fixed soon.  I know you enjoy living there so close to your siblings, but problems can really be stressful.......and expensive.

Marilyn, have you or has anyone else spoken to those in charge about turning the volume down?  That can easily be done by whoever is manning the sound booth.  I do not tolerate really loud music or speaking either, it is physically painful to my ears.

Oh, won't it be a wonderful day when we arrive in heaven, to be greeted by our Lord, the great patriarchs of the Bible, and all those who have gone before us?  I cannot imagine the joy we will feel!!  WOO-HOO!!  ;D ;D :)

It helps to think of that day, when we are being bombarded with bad news on every hand, and the liberal media twisting things and painting the darkest picture possible.  Thank God, they are not in control..........GOD IS!!!  8)

I will be back later, probably.

Liz, I see you posted while I was composing, so will read yours now.  I wish you a blessed day!

Marilyn I too find your days interesting. Same as Janet Larry and the rest of you.   In "listening" I am reminded of a saying of Pastor Dennis.  "More is caught than is taught."  Also "you may not enjoy every day, but, you will enjoy every season."  I know there are days that are very difficult, but I do so enjoy my girls.

It is +9*C here today.  A little warmer than the past week.  The creek is at a normal level, and as long as the melt down continues as it has begun, we won't have much flooding.

Well I have to go, more book cases full of books to be moved.  It will take a lot of bending and lifting.  Good exercise, but results will be good, for the books not our backs.

Bye for now
Judy

Sue

If it weren't for the "mundane" posting of our daily activities, what would we "talk" about.

Pat, I hope your computer is feeling better.

Janet, sounds like Beth may need some "driving" lessons.   I hope you didn't injure yourself getting her chair back where it needed to be.

Liz, that ferry sinking had me looking through my photo albums.  My partner is sure that he had been on it at some point, and I wasn't sure but thought that perhaps I had a photo of it from our trip to the west coast.

I have had a couple of interesting days.  I went to the basement on Wednesday evening to look for something and came away with wet feet.  I made a phone call to make sure that a valve had been shut off.  When Bruce got home, it was discovered that the kitchen sink drain pipe had broken cleanly off at the sewer connection.  A trip to Home Dept Thursday morning found us without adequate help from the staff, however advise from a handyman contractor in the store at the same time provided us with a possible $8 fix.  If that didn't work then we would have been looking at thousands of dollars to repair as the concrete in the basement would have needed to be chopped away from the sewer connector and a new one put and and the concrete redone.  Am I ever happy that my needs were provided for and an $8 fix worked!  This weekend I will need to clean and rearrange the basement.  Perhaps it should have been done yesterday and today, however other needs took priority.

I had a meal with my daughter a while ago, and now I must get busy and get a couple of things done before heading to an early bed as I must be up and at work by 3:30 am Saturday.

Samantha

Marilyn, Larry, Janet, Etta Sue and everyone else I left off -

I enjoy each and every one of y'alls posts.  To hear of how your church day went, or your work day, or for some who are retired, just your day is facinating to me.  Don't ever stop.

Just recouperating from the funeral this week.  Nice visiting with family, they all stayed at my house.  Just sorry they only come around for funerals.

Terry is still having heart problems, hope to get those resolved in the next two weeks, either pacemaker or medicine.

Y'all have a good evening,

Samantha

I think I forgot to tell y-all that my Dr. has made arrangements for me to wear a Heart holter for 24 hours. It seems that when I had the sleep study the results showed that I had some PVC"S (skipped beats) a couple of times, My doctor could find no irregularities with my heart but just wants to make sure. Thank you Jesus <3 for insurance that pays for all this stuff. I just have to get over to the Cardiopulmonary lab to pick it up.

I found out today that Joanne (my client), is not expected to live, :'( according to the discharge nurse at the hospital. Pastor Leroy (her husband) told me today that they came asking him if he had made all the arrangements for her yet. They are still giving her antibiotics and feeding her intravenously.

I was able to take both dogs for walks today, Bebe went first, than I took Happy, Bill from across the street came and we  put the medicine in Happy's ears before the walk. That two days in a row they got to go for walks, I am going to try to do this daily when I get home form work. I need to walk more and so do they, Happy is over weight  by about 10 lbs.

I too enjoy reading all the posts and looking into the live of all y-all here on CP. Liz I love you little storie., Etta Sue's graphics, Larry's adventures , Janet's  exciting day's, Sues doings, too. I know I haven't mentioned everyone so just excuse me I will get around to y-all eventually. 0:-)

Just a quick note tonight.  I'm not sure what's happening with my computer, but I strongly suspect that my monitor is on the way out.  Last night when I shut down it spit and sputtered and crackled.  Sounded like static, or sparks.  Then this afternoon when I booted up the black background on the dos pages was a lovely shade of lavender.  Working OK so far, but I don't know what will happen when I shut down tonight.  Thank the Lord I still have my trusty Mac, even though I've used it very little lately.  Most of my free lance work has to be with MS Word and Excel and I don't have those programs on the Mac.   :(

Oh well, tomorrow's another day.

Pastoral Ministry: Read or Get Out of the Ministry

A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding
will attain wise counsel.
--Proverbs 1:5

When a very young minister, I asked the famous holiness preacher,
Joseph H. Smith, whether he would recommend that I read widely in the
secular field. He replied, "Young man, a bee can find nectar in the
weed as well as in the flower." I took his advice (or, to be frank,
I sought confirmation of my own instincts rather than advice) and I
am not sorry that I did.

John Wesley told the young ministers of the Wesleyan Societies to
read or get out of the ministry, and he himself read science and
history with a book propped against his saddle pommel as he rode
from one engagement to another. Andy Dolbow, the American Indian
preacher of considerable note, was a man of little education, but I
once heard him exhort his hearers to improve their minds for the
honor of God. "When you are chopping wood," he explained, "and you
have a dull axe you must work all the harder to cut the log. A sharp
axe makes easy work. So sharpen your axe all you can."  The Size of
the Soul, 33.

"In the busyness of life, Lord, help me to always guard time to
sharpen my axe. Amen."
