JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Jesus in Control
Luke 8:22-56  NLT

Jesus Calms the Storm
22One day Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's cross over to the other side of the lake." So they got into a boat and started out. 23On the way across, Jesus lay down for a nap, and while he was sleeping the wind began to rise. A fierce storm developed that threatened to swamp them, and they were in real danger.

24The disciples woke him up, shouting, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!"

So Jesus rebuked the wind and the raging waves. The storm stopped and all was calm! 25Then he asked them, "Where is your faith?"

And they were filled with awe and amazement. They said to one another, "Who is this man, that even the winds and waves obey him?"

Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Man
26So they arrived in the land of the Gerasenes, across the lake from Galilee. 27As Jesus was climbing out of the boat, a man who was possessed by demons came out to meet him. Homeless and naked, he had lived in a cemetery for a long time. 28As soon as he saw Jesus, he shrieked and fell to the ground before him, screaming, "Why are you bothering me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Please, I beg you, don't torture me!" 29For Jesus had already commanded the evil spirit to come out of him. This spirit had often taken control of the man. Even when he was shackled with chains, he simply broke them and rushed out into the wilderness, completely under the demon's power.

30"What is your name?" Jesus asked.

"Legion," he replied--for the man was filled with many demons. 31The demons kept begging Jesus not to send them into the Bottomless Pit. 32A large herd of pigs was feeding on the hillside nearby, and the demons pleaded with him to let them enter into the pigs. Jesus gave them permission. 33So the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the whole herd plunged down the steep hillside into the lake, where they drowned.

34When the herdsmen saw it, they fled to the nearby city and the surrounding countryside, spreading the news as they ran. 35A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, for they wanted to see for themselves what had happened. And they saw the man who had been possessed by demons sitting quietly at Jesus' feet, clothed and sane. And the whole crowd was afraid. 36Then those who had seen what happened told the others how the demon-possessed man had been healed. 37And all the people in that region begged Jesus to go away and leave them alone, for a great wave of fear swept over them.

So Jesus returned to the boat and left, crossing back to the other side of the lake. 38The man who had been demon possessed begged to go, too, but Jesus said, 39"No, go back to your family and tell them all the wonderful things God has done for you." So he went all through the city telling about the great thing Jesus had done for him.

Jesus Heals in Response to Faith
40On the other side of the lake the crowds received Jesus with open arms because they had been waiting for him. 41And now a man named Jairus, a leader of the local synagogue, came and fell down at Jesus' feet, begging him to come home with him. 42His only child was dying, a little girl twelve years old.

As Jesus went with him, he was surrounded by the crowds. 43And there was a woman in the crowd who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years. She had spent everything she had on doctors and still could find no cure. 44She came up behind Jesus and touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.

    45"Who touched me?" Jesus asked.

Everyone denied it, and Peter said, "Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you."

46But Jesus told him, "No, someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me." 47When the woman realized that Jesus knew, she began to tremble and fell to her knees before him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed. 48"Daughter," he said to her, "your faith has made you well. Go in peace."

49While he was still speaking to her, a messenger arrived from Jairus's home with the message, "Your little girl is dead. There's no use troubling the Teacher now."

50But when Jesus heard what had happened, he said to Jairus, "Don't be afraid. Just trust me, and she will be all right."

51When they arrived at the house, Jesus wouldn't let anyone go in with him except Peter, James, John, and the little girl's father and mother. 52The house was filled with people weeping and wailing, but he said, "Stop the weeping! She isn't dead; she is only asleep."

53But the crowd laughed at him because they all knew she had died. 54Then Jesus took her by the hand and said in a loud voice, "Get up, my child!" 55And at that moment her life returned, and she immediately stood up! Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56Her parents were overwhelmed, but Jesus insisted that they not tell anyone what had happened.

Which of these miracles gives you greatest comfort?

When caught in the storms of life, it is easy to think that God has lost control and that we are at the mercy of the winds of fate.  In reality, God is sovereign.  He controls the history of the world and our personal destinies.  Just as Jesus calmed the waves, he can calm whatever storms you may face.

Whew!  That's a long devotion!  But I love reading all of Jesus' miracles.  Gives me hope!

My trip to Bloomington was fine and dandy.  We didn't have to stay as long as before so I got home earlier tonight.  I am tired.

Wow, Etta Sue, lots of good stories and lessons in today's word--thank you.

As I re-read this I am listening to a song that I really like...reminds me to be thankful for the Word, for Him.

Everything

It's a beautiful day and the world is bright
'Cos you took me away from the longest night
What can I do but give all I have to you

It's a beautiful day and the page has turned
Deep in my soul now your fire burns
What can I do, I'll give it all up for you

You give me everything
Give me hope within
You're the song I sing
You give me everything
Give me hope to win
You're the song I sing

It's a beautiful day and we're running proud
And we'll run to the line
Hear the witness cloud
I know it's true
We're gonna fly
We're gonna dance
On that glorious day with you

You are the light that shines - hey hey

Etta Sue I am sorry but that devotional was just too long for me to read, I do read most of the ones you post but I rarely read the real long ones from anybody. No offense intended to any of you good people here on CP.

Well the power did not go out last night. I have been awake since 2:45 unable to go back to sleep. I finally got up at 4:15 and turned up the heat a little bit, went back to bed until 5:15. so this will be a long day for me.

I have to go to Eureka again today that's 3 days in a row. I am taking Pastor Leroy with me as he has a few errands to do also. I only have to go one place for myself to sign up for the seniors Commodity program. I amnot getting paid for driving him around,  don't get paid as long as Joanne is in the hospital.

Hello all!  Just breezin' through for a minute before we start our day.

I hope all is well with you, and you have a Jesus-filled day!!

Etta, I'm like you -- I always like to read about the miracles of Jesus, especially those that remind me that HE is in control.  Thanks for posting.

Etta Sue

I am so happy that you have enjoyed the long devotion.  The length is scripture, not description.  Jesus' miracles gives me hope when I am down or with problems.

Just stopping in after a short night.  I am packing an overnight bag to take when I leave in the morning.  I am taking the lady of yesterday's excursion to a Surgery Center for her to receive a Selective Nerve Root Injection in her spine.  Just in case I can't get back home before 1:30 p.m., I am taking my overnight bag and will drive myself to the Ladies Retreat with Ivalou's church women.

That being said....I will be scarce...maybe not seen at all on here...until at least Saturday evening or after church Sunday.

Janet

Howdy, Y'all!

I am going to Liberal with a couple of lady friends from church, don't know what time we will be home.

Great devotional, Etta Sue!  I love reading about the miracles Jesus did, and reflecting on the fact that He is the same yesterday, today and always.  What He did then, He can do today, and even greater things.  He loves us so much and wants to do those mighty miracles for us today, too.

We are still having unseasonably warm weather, it was 82* yesterday.  JudyB, send us some of that snow, before we blow away!

Gotta run, talk to you later!

Thanks Etta Sue for bringing us pure scripture from God's word today.  I've read that portion in Luke so often but today it's meant more to me.  Thanks!

I really enjoy readiing of the miracles that Jesus did.

Carol

This is the morning after our Ash Wednesday service.  We had a wonderful turn-out last night and the service was so good - both pastors were there and they held two services yesterday.  It was a thrill to be there.

I was two hours late for a meeting at church yesterday - :-[  my fault for putting down the wrong time on the calendar.  So, I went on to pick up some sturdy cream colored denium fabric as Don is making a really neat thing in the linen closet.  We have a tiny linen closet with no door, in the bathroom - and he is making a glide with dowels to hold a pull out hamper for laundry.  My job is to measure and sew the hamper and make it something to easy to wash the hamper itself when needed.

Judy:  My sewing machine is always out - always something.  Nice that your children are reading Proverbs with you.  I wish that I had done more with my children in that area.

Jeanne Lee:  You are dreaming of a South Sea Island - it must be cold for you now.

Our Mission Task Force, my committee, has taken on the daunting task of helping build a multi-unit building this year.  It will be at least a tri-plex.  Working with Habitat on this & it will be interesting. Lots of plans going on for other things as well.

Etta Sue:  I love hearing about miracles and truely believe in them, have seen them in my life.

Marilyn:  I sure understand - we all have a lot on our plates & you do too.

Carol

Hi Carol...  My sewing maching was out nearly all the time BC

(BC=Before Computers)

I just love my camera and photography now so much and this website and Photography Cafe that I fear I don't have the time now for the sewing as much as I used to do.

 :coffee: Good day
Thanks for the devotional. Its always good to be reminded that God is bigger than our storms of life.
Its another snowy day here today.  We had to cancel our prayer meeting  today because of the storm.
I am in the midst of doing a 25th wedding anniversary supper . I am not good at this -I like the focus to be on someone else and not me.
Nevertheless I am sure I will be able to get through this ;D
Have a great day and may God bless each one.

Is the Name "Jesus" the sweetest one you know?

.

Jesus Is the Sweetest Name I Know
(Click to hear music)

Thy Name is as ointment poured forth.
Song of Solomon 1:3

Words & Music: Lela B. Long

There have been names that I have loved to hear,
But never has there been a name so dear
To this heart of mine, as the Name divine,
The precious, precious Name of Jesus.

Refrain
Jesus is the sweetest name I know,
And He's just the same as His lovely Name,
And that's the reason why I love Him so;
Oh, Jesus is the sweetest name I know.

There is no name in earth or heav'n above,
That we should give such honor and such love
As the blessed Name, let us all acclaim,
That wondrous, glorious Name of Jesus.

Refrain

And some day I shall see Him face to face
To thank and praise Him for His wondrous grace,
Which He gave to me, when He made me free,
The blessed Son of God called Jesus.

Refrain

Etta Sue I love the miracles too.  You are right they do give hope.

Marilyn I too have a problem reading the long devotionals on the computer screen, I have found that if I print them out then I can read them along with my Bible abd have the opportunity to do some cross referencing as well.  I love cross referencing to get as many applications to a particular scripture.  Now that is fun!

We have a cold day here, but it is only -5*C.  It must be damp out.  My toes are blocks of ice today.

I had a cal from Melaura a bit ago.  She was wanting a mental health break from school.  She wasn't feeling well and thought her and I could buzz off and have some time together.  Unfortunately I have other things to do so we have to take a rain check on that.

The puppies are so cute.  Like human babies they are on a four hour schedule.  Every 4 hours they want out to do their jobbies and then food and water.   After eating they play themselves out scampering all over the place.  This morning one had found a dropped scarfe and was being really ferocious (sp) attacking it.  We are keeping two, but I am reluictant to sell the other one.   Common sence (cents) must prevail.

Well I need to feed the furnace then get on track with the flylady program

Have a good day and enjoy the sunshine.  spring is coming soon for those of us who have winter still.

Judy

Judy McKenna

Oh Judy B - do you really think spring is coming soon?  I hope you are right!  I find the month of March, SO LONG....thats why we have booked a couple of weeks in Florida.

We leave March 18th!

Marilyn:  Dosen't seem right, that you don't get paid for driving people around for appointments.  When I think of all the help I need around here, and money I put out, I am only to happy to pay for the help I need.  Its trying to find reliable help that is the problem for me.

Lately, I have found a cleaning girl who is working out.  I leave a list telling what I want done.  Even changing beds is a problem for me, as my hands won't let me put on fitted sheets.

Sounds like your vacation down in Florida will be nice, Judy.

I am back from all the runnning around, it took me all of 10 minutes to complete  my errand, we were gone for 3:15 hour. He put $23.00 in my gas tank and loand me $20 at the grocer because I forgot my check book and Winco only takes checks and cash. So  have written him a check to pay him back. I am going to get paid for the time it took as soon as the county sends me the time sheets for this month.

Gonna go enjoy my cup of  tea, check my email and do some crocheting. I am making another afghan.,

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Wow, it doesn't pay to get behind here.  I had to go back to Feb. 23 and read all the messages through today.  I didn't want to miss anything.

We got home last evening around 5:30.  We had a good trip back from Florida after having a wonderful time while we were there.  The weather was just beautiful and we enjoyed the time we had with relatives.  We also ate very well.  I spent quite a lot of time teaching Pat's aunt and her daughter to use the computer for both e-mail and the Internet.  The daughter had never touched a computer before but seems to be a natural.  The aunt is 87 but is determined to use the computer.

My first priority when I got home was to update my church website and then try to catch up on e-mail.  I had webwork to do on two other websites I maintain and have now gotten them up to date.

This afternoon I had to go to Calvin Cove and then this evening it was back to the church for a committee meeting that last almost 2 hours.

Papa John, while I am sorry to read that Cornelia is experiencing so much pain I can certainly understand her depression and feeling that she is not progressing very quickly.  On my first heart surgery I thought I was never going to recover and for about 8 weeks continued to feel very bad and spent most of the time resting and in bed.  However, after getting fluid removed from my chest I then recovered very quickly.

I think I had better sign off for tonight as I can't possibly make individual comments.  However, have enjoyed all the postings.  I did add my marker on the map.  I don't have a blog and don't expect to as I can't keep up with what I am trying to do.  See you all tomorrow.

Pat

Larry, I just can't tell you how good it is to have you home!  We sure miss you when you're away--even for just a few days.

Welcome Home, Bro!

Pat, I love the song, Jesus Is The Sweetest Name I Know. :)  I've been listening as I've read the posts.

Larry, it is good to see your name pop up.  We know you enjoyed yourself in Florida.

And now Judy is going to Florida too.  Wow!  Florida is sure lucky to get such neat people visiting there.

I'll stay here in my spot and do my job of waiting for Spring.  It always comes at just the right time.  God is smart that way.

Today was Ron's birthday and tomorrow is Kim's.  She always has a hard time this day because her and Ron used to celebrate together.  Kim has to stay home and wait for the chimney sweep to come  tomorrow, so I'll get something for lunch and go over to her house.  I wanted to take her to lunch, but the guy couldn't narrow the time down to less than between 10 and 4.

"'see" you all tomorrow.  God bless.  Nita

Did yesterday's picture posts disappear?  Or did the posters delete them?  I think some are missing that I commented on. Strange.  What if I just thought I saw more and commented, and what if I really didn't?  And what if I'm losing it? :anon:
