Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
Psalm 4:7

"As a Christian, I'm happier now when I'm sad than I was as an unbeliever when I was glad!"

We knew what our friend was saying, even though he got a bit tongue tied in the process.

The Psalmist wrote the same thing in this song, but even reading this verse requires some consideration to appreciate the truth.

That's why Peter says it's "joy inexpressible and full of glory."

All That Thrills My Soul Is Jesus
(Click to hear music)

Who can cheer the heart like Jesus,
By His presence all divine?
True and tender, pure and precious,
O how blest to call Him mine!

Chorus:
All that thrills my soul is Jesus;
He is more than life to me;
And the fairest of ten thousand,
In my blessed Lord I see.

Love of Christ so freely given.
Grace of God beyond degree,
Mercy higher than the heaven,
Deeper then the deepest sea.

Chorus

What a wonderful redemption!
Never can a mortal know
How my sin, tho' red like crimson,
Can be whiter than the snow.

Chorus

Every need His hand supplying,
Every good in Him I see;
On His strength divine relying,
He is all in all to me.

Chorus

By the crystal flowing river
With the ransomed I will sing,
And forever and forever
Praise and glorify the King.

Chorus:
All that thrills my soul is Jesus;
He is more than life to me;
And the fairest of ten thousand,
In my blessed Lord I see.

Thanks, PAT, for this devotional.... We used to sing a song that the chorus went like this: It is Joy unspeakable and full of glory ... full of glory ... full of glory. Oh! the half has never yet been known.... Truly I can say Amazing Love ... How can it be that Thou my King shouldst die for me....

I'm on my way to bed, just passing through... I wish y'all a most wondrous day with the Lord and I'll be checking back later ...

Love, Jane

A Good Morning to all.  Here it is 36 degrees and looks like it will be a beautiful sunny day.

Truly, Pat, Jesus is all that thrills my soul!  I  loved the song.

Tonight is choir and prayer meeting  along with the Wed nite supper :)

May each of you have a wonderful day just knowing our Savior is walking with us all the way.   :)

Good morning, friends,

Jane, you set my heart to singing this morning. Yes, I've always really loved that song.

I'm on early - must see the doctor for an adjustment to my new prescription shoes. The left one wants to slip up and down on my heel and I don't want any irritation to develop as a result of that.

There seem to be other health issues in my life right now, so I'll explain more as more becomes apparent. Thanks for this wonderful, comforting, loving community of believers. I love each of you.

Good Morning Everyone...

Yes, Jane, I love that chorus that you've written about.  I haven't heard that for a long time.

We've had the saddest thing happen in our part of Ontario.  I think I mentioned it last week but here's some links for you all to look at.

Pat:  Thank you ever so much for the sweet old song today - some of these songs just bring back so many memories. Such a heartbreaking story you had on the entire family dying in a house fire.  What a testimony that the husband/father gave.

Ursula:  We have had healing services (separate) in our Lutheran church.  Sometimes the need is so overwhelming that it seems like the necessary thing - it helps heal the hearts of those who are involved.  It is very peaceful and moving.

Good Morning, Can't stay for coffee this morning, I'll take a raincheck on the coffee. Good devotional Pat. thanks.

I agree Carol, the healing services are  peaceful and moving. The ones I have been involved with gave me such a good feeling for the rest of the day.

I too have been healed from carpel tunnel, and mitral valve prolapse and depression 6 years ago. I have had some mile depression on occassion since then but nothing like the time before I got healed.

Good morning all.

Pat, the words to that song are so wonderful.  And so true.  He does thrill my heart.  Sometimes my heart feels old and tired, and  I have to pray and ask the Lord to touch me again, to stir my love for Him.....give me the passion again.  Even in loving Him, I have to ask for help.   Our Lord is so precious, so loving.  How could we not love Someone who is Love?  He does have my heart, and I can't imagine how people make it without Him in this world today.  It must be so lonely for them.

I checked your link re IE, Pat.  That's the reason I went with FF.  I just wish I could use it in the gallery.

I have two little puppies at my feet, wanting me to play, so will get off here and on the floor for awhile. :)
Getting up again is the slowest part.  :)

Hello, everyone!  Like others, so sorry to be MIA so much lately.  Life, as usual, seems to be more of a zoo than usual.... hmmm, check the irony there!

Lots of things going on: church struggles (I'm on the "board of directors" and the pastor has been ill for several weeks), terribly busy at work, internet aggravations (click on phone line from neighbor's electric fence), financial struggles (Karma's insurance ran out the first of the month), Travis has gotten really interested in Flight Sim (at least an hour each night "flying" with him - great fun!), Karma's tired a lot, I was pretty sick for a few days, and probably a few dozen other things, but anyway....  We've made a bit of a conscious effort to not be so "Internet centric" that we completely lose our cool when we can't connect.  I haven't had much chance to check CP from work, so I've been kinda invisible.  I wish that weren't true, but it is.  I'm going to try to do better :)

The Holy Spirit reminded me that if I were as concerned about my connection to God as I am my connection to the Internet, my life would probably be much different.....

Bye for now!
I survived open heart surgery.... :)

Sweet Hour of Prayer
(Click to hear music)

Pray continually.
1 Thessalonians 5:17

Words: William Walford, 1845; appeared in The New York Observer, September 13, 1845, accompanied by the following, written by Thomas Salmon:

During my residence at Coleshill, Warwickshire, England, I became acquainted with W. W. Walford, the blind preacher, a man of obscure birth and connections and no education, but of strong mind and most retentive memory.

In the pulpit he never failed to select a lesson well adapted to his subject, giving chapter and verse with unerring precision and scarcely ever misplacing a word in his repetition of the Psalms, every part of the New Testament, the prophecies, and some of the histories, so as to have the reputation of "knowing the whole Bible by heart."

He actually sat in the chimney corner, employing his mind in composing a sermon or two for Sabbath delivery, and his hands in cutting, shaping and polishing bones for shoe horns and other little useful implements. At intervals he attempted poetry.

On one occasion, paying him a visit, he repeated two or three pieces which he had composed, and having no friend at home to commit them to paper, he had laid them up in the storehouse within.

"How will this do?" asked he, as he repeated the following lines, with a complacent smile touched with some light lines of fear lest he subject himself to criticism. I rapidly copied the lines with my pencil, as he uttered them, and sent them for insertion in the Observer, if you should think them worthy of preservation.

Music: William B. Bradbury, Golden Chain (New York: 1861)

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father's throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter's snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God my Savior shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I'll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah's lofty height,
I view my home and take my flight:
This robe of flesh I'll drop and rise
To seize the everlasting prize;
And shout, while passing through the air,
"Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!"

Nice thought there, Nards!

That link was great, Pat!  IE is out of here. :)

Hope you all have a fine day.

We are all back from the Birthday breakfast.  Kaye Don and Barb had great news to tell us.  They have bought a home in Pleasant Lake RV Resort in Bradenton, FL, just west of I-75 on 53rd Street/SR 40.  It is a Park Model with a 20' x' 30' built on.  Living room, kitchen, dining room, 1 bath, 1 bedroom and a big utility room.  Comes furnished all except the dining room table and chairs, which includes leather couch which makes into a bed, 2 leather recliners, 27" console TV, microwave, washer and dryer AND a golf cart.  It is lakeside, too, and in the same Resort where they have taken the RV for about 10 years now.  It is fully landscaped with flowers and such and even some lawn furniture will stay.  AND it only costs a couple of thousand more than a Park Model that was 12' x 40'.  And Kaye Don and Barb won't have to do anything to it except take their clothes and personal items such as kitchen stuff, linens, etc.  I have already told them that if they can't take everything in the turck when they get it back, that Ivalou and I will take a load down in my car.  What a deal!!  They want to go down December 26th for the season and come back mid-April.  Ivalou and I will only stay a week or two if we go.  Hope Jerry can kitty sit for me!!!

Good morning!  I'm late today, had some things to do, with Darrel's help.  He called a pet store in Liberal, and if they have some empty cages tomorrow they will take the puppies.  Darrel has to go to Liberal to finish an alarm job anyway, so that will solve the puppy crisis!  I really wanted to keep the one little girl, but winter isn't a good time to train a puppy, and with us being gone for nearly three weeks..........

Pat, that is so sad about the terrible fire and the loss of the poor man's family.  I will go and see the links when I get this done.  I remember there was a similar thing a few years ago in Canada that my friend Dr. Sue told me about.

Did you all read Beth's post from last night?  Isn't it wonderful how God is blessing her?  "Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."  Beth is seeing this coming true in her life, and I am praising God for His goodness!

I want to clean the house today so we can come home to a clean house.  We will only have a few days to get ready for Christmas when we get home!  Darrel was reading today in a little book we got, that if you need clothes in Thailand, you can buy a complete wardrobe there for about the price of a pair of designer jeans here!!!  I think I may UNpack some stuff!!  ;D ;D

Yes, Pat, we will be spending Thanksgiving Day in Bangkok.  Maybe we will be eating noodles.......or rice!  But we love trying new foods and we both enjoy rice or noodles.

I'd better get with it, the day is passing fast.  I really enjoyed reading the history of Sweet Hour of Prayer, a song I have loved since childhood.

Hey, Nards!  Sure is good to see you today.  I hope things settle down for your little family soon, and all sickness is gone from you!  We really miss you and Karma when you can't be with us.

Spiritual Warfare and Sin: Resentment

Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any
root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many
become defiled.
--Hebrews 12:15

In the course of scores of conferences and hundreds of conversations
I have many times heard people say, "I resent that." But I repeat: I
have never heard the words used by a victorious man. Resentment
simply cannot dwell in a loving heart. Before resentfulness can
enter, love must take its flight and bitterness take over. The bitter
soul will compile a list of slights at which it takes offense and
will watch over itself like a mother bear over her cubs. And the
figure is apt, for the resentful heart is always surly and suspicious
like a she-bear.

Few sights are more depressing than that of a professed Christian
defending his supposed rights and bitterly resisting any attempt to
violate them. Such a Christian has never accepted the way of the
cross. The sweet graces of meekness and humility are unknown to him.
He grows every day harder and more acrimonious as he defends his
reputation, his rights, his ministry, against his imagined foes.

The only cure for this sort of thing is to die to self and rise with
Christ into newness of life.  Of God and Men, 105-106.

"Lord, I have all too often seen the destruction caused by resentment
that has turned into bitterness--or bitterness turned into resentment.
Keep me, I pray, in the way of the cross, the way of meekness and
humility. Amen."

Dear Nards, you certainly don't have your troubles to seek!  :)
Yet how true it is that we Christians believe that God works ALL things together for good to those who love Him.
Sometimes we smile through the pain, and walk on gritting our teeth, and ALWAYS we come to an oasis  where we can sit and be refreshed, then it's up and off again.
One hard, difficult, day as a believer is still worth all the years of unbelief and darkness.
I pray that God will soon bring you both to refreshing times for soul and body.
Regards, Chris.

Chris & Margit Saunders

Following on from yesterday's thread, Jesus Christ is the Same, yesterday, today and tomorrow!
Healing is available, through doctors, medicine and also through the annointing with oil and the laying on of hands,
I have been prayed for and healed, and prayed for and not healed,
our faith has nothing very much to do with this and dont ever feel that your lack of faith has let you go unhealed.
Lazarus was dead and had no faith, neither had the widow of Nain's son!
Jesus can raise the dead and heal the sick, it is His faith we lay hold on.
Word of faith, name it and claim it preachers, are in my opinion preaching a very unscriptural doctrine, which sometimes puts beleivers under a false condemnation, while they pretend that as it was your lack of faith, so it's not the preachers fault that you were not healed!!
That fact is that God does not always want to heal us at the time we desire Him to, but when He does, we receive healing instantly and completely.
"Not my will but Your's Lord" should always be our prayer.
Never let a "not yet" stop you from continuing to pray.
I remember once some years ago pulling a muscle in my back at work, and I had to come home early, I was in agony, my late wife said " I guess no prayer meeting tonight then!"
I replied " you must be joking! I am definately going and I will be asking for healing."
As I entered the house where we met for prayer I said " I'm in agony, and am asking you all to pray and lay hands on me at the end of the meeting."
There were gulps from some of them as they had never been asked to do this before, as they were young in the faith and perhaps thought that a lot was expected of them, but not at all, I was expecting from God not them, I just wanted them to be channels only of the Blessed Saviour.
When the time seemed right I said "ok, lets ask God on my behalf." and struggled down on my knees, they laid hands on me and prayed, and I felt like someone was tickling me, but from the inside and I experienced a feeling of joy and peace, when I rose to my feet and stretched this way and that, all pain was gone and we began to give thanks and praise to the Lord our Gracious, loving, caring God.
That meeting did wonders for the young people there,it showed them that prayer worked!
Regards Chris.

it is great you are doing so well Beth that is wonderful. not sure you should get off the steroids though but good luck with it if your Doctor goes along. You really aren't all that big or at least weren't the last time I saw you in July. incidentally as I am typing this there are now 30 days 20 hours and 51 minutes till I touch Down in Dodge City.

Janet

Hello there, John! Good to see Beth and you here again today!  Hope you're feeling better, too.  The doctor told us Beth might not be able to take the steroids for a long period of time, but it's only been about three weeks, so.........tomorrow we will see what he says.

Chris, I have to disagree with you about Word of Faith preachers!  I have NEVER heard one of them blame the person who wasn't healed, or act as if it were their fault!  And I have been in Word of Faith  for close to 30 years now!  I am so blessed by their teachings, and my faith has grown by leaps and bounds under their tutelage.

I know misunderstandings happen, especailly if we only hear a portion of a teaching, and no doubt there have been some who spoke as you said.  I'm just saying---not in my hearing!

I really enjoy the Tozer thoughts you bring us, thanks so much.

I'm making progress on my to-do list today!! ;D ;D ;D
