JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

Morning Devotional...

Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing...Behold, I stand at the door, and knock.
Revelation 3:17, 20

The Laodicean church had everything—except Christ!

Possibly they enjoyed wonderful fellowship with one another but sadly that fellowship was not with the Lord. He was outside pleading with individuals within the church, asking, "If any man hear My voice".

Am I personally enjoying a close and genuine fellowship with the Saviour? Or am I one of those self-satisfied "Christians", whom the Lord sees as spiritually "wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked"?

His great desire is to step into your life and bring you into a genuine soul-satisfying fellowship with Himself.

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
(Click to hear music)

"He was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, 'Lord, save me!' Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him. 'You of little faith,' He said, 'why did you doubt?'" Matthew 14:29-31

Words: Elisha A. Hoffman, in The Glad Evangel for Revival, Camp, and Evangelistic Meetings (Dalton, Georgia: A. J. Showalter & Company, 1887).
Music: Anthony J. Showalter--Showalter wrote this tune and words to the refrain after hearing from two friends whose wives had died, and asked Hoffman to write the remaining lyrics.

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain

Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain

Good Morning one and all it is 12:03 AM my time.

Al:  You are absolutely correct when you say to pray for all of our church members and it does make it easier...board meetings go a lot better and end a lot sooner....people grow by leaps and bounds...and God lets you be a part of that.  Wow !

But then all of the people in church on any given Sunday are not there to be nurished nor encouraged.....so many are there, like I used to be...to keep the spouses happy, read that keep peace in the family.  The sooner the service is over the sooner they can get home to the football game...not that football is bad mind you.  Some even set their watch alarms for 12 noon.  Confidentally, do you pay attention to them or ignore them...our former pastor told those types not to bother cause he was hard of hearing and couldn't hear them anyway.  Ha Ha

I have a relative that goes to church every Sunday, yet has not chosen to turn his life over to Jesus..I was exactly like him for 20 yrs.  I attended every once in a while to keep my wife happy.  I just wish he would realize that life is much better with Him than w/o Him.  I pray that his heart is not too hardened.

Wonderful to read about your life with the Saviour now.

Each of us has our own story of how we were BC (Before Christ)  Mine has a lot of twists....but that is not what I wanted to write about.

Every time I see your signature of Jim Elliot I get moved.  Here was a man who knew what his purpose in life was.  He remained focused till the end....unlike me with ups and downs.  God gives us people like Jim & Elizabeth Elliot (and many others) as examples of how to live life...and live it to the fullest.  He was no fool.

Amen, Ed!  We lived in a house up in Oregon that had a small building out in back that I used as shop and study.  It had been built by Jim Elliot!  He used to live in the house some time before we did.  Thankfully, Elizabeth knows that he's rejoicing today in the very presence of the Savior he loved!

I can't reply to everyone today...I am in a rush.  I answered a request from church to volunteer taking a couple to Bloomington, Indiana, on Wednesdays.  I met the couple a few weeks back.  They are in their 70's and he suffered a stroke a couple of years ago.  She was told he would be a vegetable but after surgery and therapy and continued therapy, he walks around 800 steps a day.  I wasn't suppose to drive them until the 30th but she called this morning and asked if I could today because the driver they had for today has a really bad cold.  So it will be a long day.  I will leave here around 1 p.m., drive to Greenfield, then drive two hours to Bloomington, then Walt has a two hour speech therapy session, then drive two hours back to Greenfield and another 40 minutes to get back home.  Long day.

The wind is fierce!!!  Sure hope it isn't a windy winter.  Really sounds cold out there.  And it is suppose to get to 18°F tonight and not above freezing tomorrow.  BRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

See ya later tonight!

Hi everyone.  Our warm weather is ending today as a cold front moves through.  Fortunaately we have not been subjected to any of the bad storms that have hit across the midwest.

We had a very nice afternoon and evening with our friends yesterday.  We went to Cracker Barrel for an early dinner and then came back here and played a game of Spades and then a game of Golf (which is a card game that has 9 rounds).  It was the first time wife had felt like socializing since she had breast cancer surgery.  I saw her husband at coffee this morning and he said she had tolerated the evening fine.

Pat just left to go to the church to meet with the craft group.  Guess they are finishing up some projects they have started.  I will probably go to the grocery store later today and then have choir this evening but beyond that my schedule is clear for today.

Etta Sue, I am sure your help will be greatly appreciated.  It is kind of you to offer to help these folks.  It sounds like winter is arriving up your way.

Al, I hope we don't cause the power grid to fail when we turn on our little heaters at the same time.  :)

Ed, you certainly stayed up late and must be a night person.  My eyes are long shut at that time of the morning.

Pat, thanks for the fine devotional this morning and the hymns you have posted.  I thought it was interesting that Al had lived in a home occupied by that same person who wrote the devotional thought.  It is really a small world.

Hi Ruth.

Carol, it doesn't seem fair that you don't get to go to the Broadmoor with Don.  Enjoy your time with your granddaughter.  I am sure that will be special for her to have your attention to work on the project and sharing your knowledge of quilt making.

Janet, what are you going to do when you get everything cleaned and fixed up?  It seems like you have been on that "treadmill" for quite awhile now and know you must be really getting tired of the drill.  I love to listen to someone play the piano.  It is my favorite instrument but guess I am partial to it as I play the piano.

Judy McKenna, certainly good to see you posting and have been missing your cheerful postings.

Karmat, do you have high speed internet available in your area?  I see you mentioned Verizon as a possible Internet provider.

Nita, you are going to love the highspeed.  Turning things off for 6 hours probably had something to do with how much longer that person had to work yesterday.  That as ridiculous.  It is true that sometimes you need to disconnect everything for a few minutes and then reconnect as the modem then seeks the connection again.  Certainly glad your plumbing problem has now been corrected and that it was nothing major this time.

Anna, we hope you will make a daily visit a part of your schedule.

Guess I had better get something to eat.  See you all tomorrow.

Janet

Etta Sue, I know God will bless you for this wonderful service to fellow believers.  I drove a dear lady to dialysis three days a week for 3 1/2 years, and it took 5 to 6 hours each day.  Not a long distance, but a lot of waiting.  But it was a blessing both to her and to me.  (((hugs)))

Carol, it sounds like the weather is really kicking up in your area.  Our wind isn't so bad today, and I'm thankful for that.  Not as cold as the past two days because of that.

Ed, good you finally came home, and Jesus was happy to welcome you!

Pat, are the black jujubes licorice flavor?  If so, this is my opinion.... :P  I do not like licorice!  ;)  Carol said they can pull out a tooth, and that reminds me of a basset hound Darrel used to have.  That old dog LOVED caramels, and when he heard the wrapper rattle, he would start drooling!  Darrle always kept the caramels until they were nearly petrified (don't know why!) and when he would give one to Jake, it would stick his teeth together!  So funny to watch him trying to get his mouth open again.

Hey, Anthony!!!  Where are you???  You are missed in here!

Hi, Al!  And hello to all who check in later.

I took Beth to therapy this morning, and went to the gym for my workout while she was doing that.  Our ladies' meeting is at 11:30, and she wants to go to that, so I will need to pick her up again.

Hello to Nards and Karma!  Hope your connection is better by now!

See y'all later!

Hi there Larry!  YES, for sure I will be so happy to get things done so I can do something different for a while.  We got a bill from the gas company yesterday for $585.00, and they haven't even done the job yet!  :tickedoff:  I also love piano music, but can't play at all, other than a couple simple tunes with one finger, and I don't think that counts!  I would love to hear you play!  :)

Hello, Ruth!

Hi, Judy McKenna, good to see your post yesterday.  How are you doing?

Okay, now I am going....................................

The German university professor challenged his students with this
question: "Did God create everything that exists? "

A student bravely replied "Yes, he did!"
"God created everything?" the professor asked.
"Yes sir," the student replied.
The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created
evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works
define who we are, then God is evil." The professor was quite pleased
with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more
that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question
professor?"
"Of course," replied the professor.
The student stood up and asked, "Professor does cold exist?"
The professor replied "Of course it exists. Have you never been
cold?"

The students snickered at the young man's question.
The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According
to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the
absence of heat. Everybody or object is susceptible to study when it
has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have
or transmit energy. Absolute zero (- 460 degrees F)is the total
absence of heat. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to
describe how we feel if we have no heat.

The student continued. "Professor, does darkness exist?"
The professor responded, "Of course it does."
The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir. Darkness does not
exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we
can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to
break white light into many colors and study the various wave lengths
of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can
break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know
how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present.
Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what
happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor. "Sir, does evil exist?"
Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already
said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's
inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence
everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but
evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir,or at least it
does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is
just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe
the absence of God.
God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man
does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold
that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when
there is no light."
The professor sat down.

The young man's name --- Albert Einstein.  <----- very smart

OUR CHURCH was looking for a new minister, and the selection committee finally recommended a young man just out of the seminary. Many older church members protested that a more experienced man would have been preferable. Committee members retaliated with the argument that a younger minister might breathe fresh life into the congregation. At the end of the meeting, I commented to an older man that this marked the beginning of better things for our church. "Yes," he said with a wry smile. "Moving on to greener pastors."

Hi everyone.

Larry, you are right about not needing to shut down for 6 hours. Yesterday, after I posted here, it went down again, and I called (again)last night, and another tech tried to walk me through all that I'd already been through.  I had a women's meeting today, so didn't mess with it till afterwards.  I called again, and this time got a man named ANDREW.  I love Andrew, and made sure I told him so, and offered him homemade cookies. haha  Anyway.....within 3 minutes Andrew discovered the problem was that there had been a "reset" there at Verizon's end, and nothing I was doing here would have made a difference.  I would have hugged Andrew if he was close.  I blessed him though.  He laughed, and I could tell it felt good to be a hero. So..........I'm up again.  And I do really like it.

Karmat, you said "Nita, how do you like the Verizon stuff?"  Uh....what is the Verizon stuff? lol  I've had them as phone (land line)provider for a long time and have never had a problem.  DSL is new for me.

Anna....I keep forgetting to tell you that I love your little banana.

Meika.....I missed it.  Are you on a cruise ship?  Where are you now?  Do you still love us like crazy?  You can tell we missed you and love you bunches and bunches.

Hi, Geri-Jean and Ed.  You're the only ones on this page, so I'm saying Hi. :)

Today while I was washing clothes, I noticed, again, how the sinks didn't gurgle when the washer drained.  They've been that way forever.  Thanking the Lord again, I just sat and smiled, when all of a sudden it seemed He was right there.  It was only in my heart, but I saw Him digging in my dirt, pulling old pipe, laying new, cutting through, checking toilet fixtures, shower fixtures, working, working, working, just for me, and making it all new.  I burst into tears, because it was HE there in those men doing all that.  I "knew" that, but when I saw him getting all dirty, crawling under my house, smiling with the guys, then I KNEW it.  It was a profound moment, and it took awhile to stop crying.

We are Jesus..........His hands, his feet, his eyes, his arms, his muscles, his heart for the world.  We are the Body.  Praise God.

AnnaBanana

Thanks Nita --- I so love that little banana smilie.  I use it on Photography Cafe, and Pat so kindly added it here for me.

If anyone would like to use it, simply type : banana :  (But with no spaces!)

Pat, I enjoyed your Thanksgiving card.   Ha ha ha ha.

Mieta, your post was not too long.  It is always good to be reminded that God does exist.

Ps 14:1-7

1   The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.
2   The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
3   All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
4   Will evildoers never learn-- those who devour my people as men eat bread and who do not call on the LORD?
5   There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous.
6   You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge.
7   Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
(NIV)

Papa John

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Nita - I thank our Father that, through Jesus, He's blessed you with so much better plumbing!

Anna - I guess I have to tell you!  We have a grandaughter named Anna, and her parents have often called her Annabannana.  So it's good seeing you in here grandaughter!

Mieka - so very, very good to see you in here!  That's a wonderful story about Einstein.  I think that when it comes right down to proving things, we can't prove God exists.  We don't need to.  Nothing else would exist without Him!  Besides, He doesn't merely "exist."  He does many, many more things, and by those things we know His presence and His love.  And then He sent His Son into the world to save sinners, and who could watch the Cross, the tomb, and the resurrection without seeing His work?

Judy McKenna

Has anyone here heard of Dr. Adrian Rogers?  I was introduced to his web site:  " Love Worth Finding"., by our member, Lee Kirkwood.

This wonderful man of God, passed into his Saviour's presence, early yesterday morning.  He was Pastor of a church in Memphis, Tenn., membersip of 28,000.

You can find more information , if interested by www.loveworthfinding.org - or adrianrogers.com.  It is well worth reading.

Papa John:  I bet you are familiar with Dr. Rogers ministry.

Hi Larry, and Hi Janet.  I am doing well, thank you for asking.
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

Jane Walker

Judy Mc ... Thanks for the information on Dr. Rogers.  I was introduced to him and his ministry by a member of his church who was also a friend from SeniorNet.  I listen/watch his messages on Sunday mornings ... She (Ginna) told me he had retired a few years ago and these are all repeats of taped sermons, but I enjoy them.  Recently, I have been hearing his sermons aired over the radio as well.  Hs was a wonderful testimony.

Nita ... That's great that you've got things all figgered out ... and I'm happy that you felt Jesus' work in and around your place ... He truly does live through people ... and it is such a blessing when "people" allow Him to shine through in their lives.

I'm getting ready (in Oklahoma we'd say I'm fixin' to) to fix some supper so I'll be back later ...

Mieka ... I so love to see your posts here.  You are really a blessing wherever you happen to be ... but especially in my life.

I'm not going to try to respond to each who have posted here recently so I'll just say Hi and God bless you abundantly ... today and every day.

See y'all later...............
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Nita

I've really enjoyed Adrian Rogers' sermons on tv.  Yes, a saint has gone home.  I didn't realize the shows were taped, and that he had retired.
