JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham.
Acts 7:2

What a day in the history of Abraham when the Living Lord became a living reality.

Over against the demon-worship of Ur and the darkness of the pagan world, an idolater, sold under sin, suddenly awakened, and became aware of the all glorious being of God.

What exceeding riches of grace. God, most High and all sufficient became personal.

Has the God of the Bible become a glorious reality to your soul?
—Les Rainey

Words by Johnson Oaktman, Jr.
Music by George C. Hugg

There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus.
No, not one!  No, not one!
None else could heal all our soul's diseases,
No, not one!  No, not one!

Chorus
Jesus knows all about our struggles,
He will guide till the day is done;
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus,
No, not one!  No, not one!

No friend like Him is so high and holy,
No, not one!  No, not one!
And yet no friend is so meek and lowly,
No, not one!  No, not one!

Chorus
Jesus knows all about our struggles,
He will guide till the day is done;
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus,
No, not one!  No, not one!

There's not an hour that He is not near us,
No, not one!  No, not one!
No night so dark but His love can cheer us,
No, not one!  No, not one!

Chorus
Jesus knows all about our struggles,
He will guide till the day is done;
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus,
No, not one!  No, not one!

Did ever saint find this Friend forsake him?
No, not one!  No, not one!
Or sinner find that He would not take him?
No, not one!  No, not one!

Chorus
Jesus knows all about our struggles,
He will guide till the day is done;
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus,
No, not one!  No, not one!

Was e'er a gift like the Savior given?
No, not one!  No, not one!
Will He refuse us a home in heaven?

Chorus
Jesus knows all about our struggles,
He will guide till the day is done;
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus,
No, not one!  No, not one!

I really enjoyed the devotional this morning and the hymn.  I won't be able to go to church today so it was great to be encouraged in this way.  I hope everyone has a great day and see you all later.

Papa John

Early Sunday morning.  Good morning everyone.  I am still having a problem with my computer but I think I can get in here for a minute.

We have a big day today.  After our service we are having a dinner for those who have been married 50 years or more.  Cornelia and I have been married 56 years.  Then tonight we have small group meetings

I hope you all have a good day today.

Hi everyone.  It will soon be time to leave for church.  Pat went at 8:30 this morning to help setup and stay with the craft sale that they are having this morning and after church.  She is not feeling very good this morning and left me a note saying she would likely come home early.  We will not be going out to eat today.

Yesterday we went to this new place for us called Tommy's Midori and the food was superb, the place lovely with white linen table cloths and napkins and cloth covered charis.  The food was reasonably priced and was it ever good.  I can't wait to go back.  On Sunday's they have a buffet for $7.99 and we will try to get our group to go there probably next Sunday after church.

Following our lunch we went over to our friends new home and spent a few minutes with them.  They are still getting settled but it is very nice, spacious and light and on a very quiet street in a small retirement community.

Not much else on my schedule for today after church.  Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.

Marilyn

Good Morning Pat, Anthony, Papa John and Larry.

Thank you for the devotional Pat, I had not thought about Abraham being a pagan before the Lord spoke to him and told him to leave Ur.

It is pouring rain here this morning or rather it was when I first got up.  The dogs were soaked when they came back in for their breakfast and they were only out for 5 minutes at the most.

This is the day the Lord hath made and I will rejoice and be glad in it. Iam takful for this day of rest.

I am going to do a Mark Kay class for my friend on Nov. 17th. That should be fun.  I just hope that people will come.

I hope Etta Sue comes in soon to let us know that she is ok. There has been some terrible tornados in Indianna and some people have died.

Janet

Good morning!  We are just about to leave for Sunday School, but I have a couple of minutes yet.

We had a fun day yesterday, didn't buy anything much at the Pumpkin Patch craft show.......only a little Red Hat Christmas ornament.  I think we are going to exchange ornaments at our next meeting, so I'm prepared!  And if not, it will hang on my own tree.  We didcovered another big craft show only a few blocks from the first, at the high school.  And there, I bought two more red hat ornaments to give as gifts.  :)

Anthony, I got your message and will answer it later.  And I really enjoyed your little "red letter Bible" story!

Marilyn, you have more patience than I have, to have two big wet dogs in your house!  :P  But I know you love them.  My new kitty is so cute and sweet, but if she doesn't start using the litter box instead of the garage floor, she is going to disappear!  >:(

Larry, have a good day, and tell Pat I hope she feels better soon.

We bought a new couch (sofa) yesterday.  I hope we will love it, because they sure aren't cheap!  :o  Darrel and Jeff got to Guymon by 5:00, met us at the furniture store so Darrel could help decide which couch we liked best.  Then we went to eat at at Chinese place (Abby LOVES egg drop soup!) and then to the theater to see "Chicken LIttle!"  LOL.  It was a cute animated film, and Darrel said they didn't change the story much from when we were kids.  ;D

My sweetie says time to go, so see you later!

Janet: I dry the dogs on the enclosed porch before they come in the house. I towel them down and have them stand on a towel to dry their feet, then I have two towels on the carpet just in case their feet still have  wet stuff on them. I keep a heavy quilt on the couch and two big towels on my bed

Got to go eat something before I go to church.

Anthony

I've got five minutes to spare so I thought I would pop on to read the messages.  Yesterday was bonfire night and the cat was quite funny.  She sat in the window watching the fireworks, but when there was a big band she'd jump down frightened - then after a while she'd go back on the window until the next big bang.  That went on all evening  :D

Papa John, congratulations on the 56 years, it's great to have the opportunity to celebrate it.  I hope you get the computer sorted out soon.

Larry, I'm glad you had a good meal out yesterday.  I like the idea of eating out, but we can't get them as cheap as $7.99 - that's about £4.50.  Sounds like a good deal.  I hope that your wife is feeling better as the day goes on.

Marilyn, it is pouring with rain over here today too.  It always seems to rain on bonfire night.  I trust that you are free from pain today.

Janet, I'm glad you had a good day yesterday at the craft fair.  It's nice to go to these places.  BTW, who is your little sweetie? It must be the cat

Hi Geri-Jean I hope that you have a great day today.

God bless all,

Anthony.

Good one, Anthony!  ^-^  But let's not tell Darrel, huh?  ;)

Another great day of worship and teaching today.  We KNOW we are doing what God wants us to be doing, because the enemy is attacking our church members from all sides.  But WE WIN!!!

Beth wanted me to call today, so I did, and she seems to be having an attitude change, for which I am SO thankful!  And her doctor is having an podiatrist come to the hospital to make a mold of her foot so that a brace can be made to keep her ankle stable.  It turns way in when she tries to walk.  She says they are wrapping it in ace bandages for now; and that the doctor has her on two new medications which seem to be helping.  Thank God!!  She doesn't know how long she will be there; they said until she no longer shows any improvement.  So that might be a while yet.

Darrel and I are both going to help with the afternoon service at the Care Home.  Our church is doing them for the month of November.  Immediately after that is practice for the cantata, then prayer time, then church.  I'm so thrilled to have Darrel participating willingly and happily in all of the activities of the church.........well, except one.
He doesn't go to Ladies' Bible study.  ;)

Talk to you later!

I came back to tell Anthony that no, no pictures.  Very uncharacteristically, I left my camera at home yesterday.  And I don't yet know how to put photos on since everything has been changed, and life has been too busy to attempt it yet.  Soon, I hope, because I do have some neat photos I'd like to share.

Where is  Etta Sue, We have two who live in Indiana Etta Sue and T-Bear (Karen) I do hope and pray that they are safe and sound in their particular areas. Have any of you heard from them?

Click here to read the story

We had a wonderful service. For Worship they asked me to turn off all the lights and they only had the one on that light the stage. The Worship leaded wanted to creat an atmoshpere of reverence. The message was comparing Acts 2 the infilling of the Holy Spirit with Genesis 10 and the Tower of Babel.

Thank you Anthony I am pain free today.

It's time for bed here in my neck of the woods, so I will see you all tomorrow.

Janet, I will have to take up my camera again sometime too.  Perhaps we can encourage one another.  BTW, tell Darell that the best meeting of the week is the ladies' bible class - I have great fun there  :-[

Marilyn, I am glad that you are free from pain today, but I agree with you that is a bit of a concern that Etta Sue hasn't posted yet; is anyone able to telephone her?

Anyway, God bless all and see you tomorrow.

Anthony - you speak of "bonfire night."  Is that a sort of regular holiday affair, or what?

Anthony

Al, I can't sleep and just popped in and saw your message.  Bonfire Night is when we morbidly remember Guy Fawkes's attempt in 1605 at blowing up the Houses of Parliament.  Guy Fawkes was actually burned alive for his crime, so the tradition is to go around the streets with an effigy of Guy Fawkes a week or so prior to Nov 5th and then placing the effigy on top of the fire.  There are a lot of fireworks going off too.  Here is a link to an article about bonfire night:

http://www.boston.com/news/world/europe/articles/2005/11/06/britons_light_400th_fawkes_day_bonfire/

Nowadays no-one has a Guy Fawkes effigy, but we used to have one when I was a child.

Anthony.

Anthony, thanks for filling in my knowledge about bonfire night. Twenty-one years ago I attended a bonfire night with my son and his new little family. How do I know how many years? That tiny baby is now 21 years old, and he passed his med-school exam! This grandma is very proud of my christian grandson.

He plans to wait until next December instead of May for graduation, because then he will graduate with one major in premed and one major in religion.

I reminded him the other day that when I finish passing through a very busy spot on my way to work each day, I begin to pray for my children and grandchildren. His turn comes just as I pass the airport. So, six or seven days a week (my church is past the airport, too) the children are prayed for in birth order with each of his/her families or significant others, then the grandchildren.

His quiet, sincere reply: "I know Grandma, and sometimes that's what keeps me going."

We never know when our prayers affect those we love, do we.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Janet

It's been a busy, but good day.  It was fun to go sing with the care home residents and now I understand why Larry enjoys going to Calvin Cove so much.  I plan to help again next week, and all this month.  The residents seemed to really enjoy having us, and the chaplain commented that they enjoy the "more exuberant" singing.  :)

Anthony, thanks for the explanation of bonfire night.  Very interesting.  I remember your telling us about it once before, but I had forgotten the history of it.

I got a forwarded email from Etta Sue this afternoon, so I feel sure she is all right.  I know Sundays are very busy for her as well.  But I'm sure she will be happy to know that we have all been concerned for her safety.  Right, Etta Sue?  We love you! <3

Ruth Ann, how nice that your grandson knows you pray for him (and the rest of your family) regularly and appreciates those prayers.  I know I would love to have someone praying for me on a regular basis!  Bless your heart.

On Tuesday, I am going to Hugoton to talk to the PEO Club about Scuba diving.  And they said I might touch on Thailand a little, too.  So I asked how many days the meeting is to last!  ;) ;D  I could talk for a week on each subject! 8)

We got a fellow to go in and clean the carpets in Darrel's mobile home, and they actually did come clean!  That's a big relief; as we thought we might have to replace all of them.  Now to scrub down the walls (paneling) and put liquid gold on them, seal the ceilings with Kilz and paint them...........Ugh, how I HATE cigarette smoke and the damage it causes!  :P :uglystupid:

Sorry, I'm a chatterbox tonight.  See you tomorrow!
