JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

We fear men so much, because we fear God so little.
~ William Gurnall~

Morning Devotional...

There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.
Joshua 11:22

God commanded His people to subdue all the land of Canaan and eliminate every foe; but in this they failed, and that with tragic results.

Gaza was the place where the mighty Samson came to grief (Jud. 16).

From Gath arose Goliath, the giant who later terrified the armies of Israel (1 Sam. 17).

Ashdod was where the Philistines took the ark of God after defeating the Israelites in battle (1 Sam. 5).

So, child of God, give no quarter to "the desires of the flesh" (Eph. 2), for these will continually "war against the soul" (1 Pet. 2), thus producing defeated Christians.
--W. P. W. McVey

Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue,
Look ever to Jesus, He will carry you through.
H. R. Palmer

Footsteps of Jesus
(Click to hear music)

Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone would come after me,
he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me'.
Matthew 16:24

Words - Mary B.C. Slade, 1826-1882
Music - Asa B. Everett, 1871

Sweetly, Lord, have we heard Thee calling,
Come, follow Me!
And we see where Thy footprints falling
Lead us to Thee.

Refrain
Footprints of Jesus,
That make the pathway glow;
We will follow the steps of Jesus
Where'er they go.

Though they lead o'er the cold, dark mountains,
Seeking His sheep;
Or along by Siloam's fountains,
Helping the weak.

Refrain

If they lead through the temple holy,
Preaching the Word;
Or in homes of the poor and lowly,
Serving the Lord.

Refrain

Then at last, when on high he sees us
Our journey done,
We will rest where the steps of Jesus
end at his throne.

Refrain

'Twas not my intention to be first again ..... had another busy day and time slipped away!
Thanks for the devotional, Pat.  I will read it again in the morning as it is now once again 9PM here on the island.

Stopped in to finish the ongoing saga about the stray cat.  The former owner told Wendy they wanted the cat back and were grateful for having it rescued.  Then turned around and told the SPCA they don't want it back and won't be picking it up.  So we couldn't leave the poor thing to endure more stress.  It is only one year old and already had enough trouble.  They are so good at the SPCA here...different than in the bigger cities.  Gave it shots, (was spayed) a flea bath, de-wormed, etc. and it gets a free check at the vet when we take her in to have fur shaved, as all matted under the tummy.  Misty will be an outside cat, as used to that, and will spend the nights in the garage, with bed, food, toys, etc.  Right now she is mostly resting, trying to regain her strength.  It is a lovely animal and so affectionate.  For some reason God wanted us to have this cat and Amanda really bonded with her.  So the happy ending simply had another twist and change of final chapter.....

That was an interesting debate with the President and J. Kerry.  Noticed Kerry mentioned stem cell research and then quickly changed the subject.  Did you all know that the people who cloned the sheep Dolly, have applied for a license to use human embryos for research.  The plan is to destroy them after five days of study.  Read that in a Christian paper today :(

Find that I need a touch of humor on a regular basis these days.  Sometimes have trouble hanging on to it:

Give me a sense of humor, Lord,
Give me the grace to see a joke,
To get some humor out of life,
And pass it on to other folk.

Time to end this strange day.  Pleasant dreams all and God Bless.

Morning!  I know I know...it is still evening for me. hehehe

I entered a photo in the Master's Challenge on dpc.  It is at 51 votes with a score of 7.15 and falling.  I knew it wouldn't do as good as a pretty shot.  Oh well.
I had fun taking it. :)

Lot's to do tomorrow so not sure how much I will be on line.
Hope you all have a good day!

Good morning.
Lovey sunny morning here, though quite a chill in  the air.

Thanks for the devotional Pat.

"David's position became stronger and stronger while Saul's dynasty became weaker and weaker."  2 Sam 3:1

Thank God for King David, for his steadfast faith in the Lord, the God of Israel. Thank-God that David's line grew stronger and stronger.
To Saul's daughter Michal no children were born. God was working His purpose out.

"You have established my dynasty before You.  You have revealed to me, O Lord of Heaven, God of Israel, that I am the first of a dynasty which will rule your people forever:" 2 Sam 7:26-27

Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, forever

King David was human, not divine, yet in all his failings he continued to look unto God and praise Him.

Let us dance before the Lord today and praise Him like David, in spite of circumstances.

                    Now enters Pastor Al  ;)

Luv U all.
Jenny.

                            News Announcement from U.K.

At the end of the Labour Party Conference last night Mr Blair the British Prime Minister announced he is having heart surgery this morning and that he will not stand for another term when this one finishes, should they win the election.

nards656

Hello, all!

Liz, I surely hope that the Dolly cloners don't get that permit.  I don't want to get political here, I just hope that never happens.

Jenny, I don't know your views on Mr. Blair, but I personally appreciate his unwavering support of the United States.  I'll just leave it at that - I don't REALLY know much about him or his policies.

I hope all of you have a good day.  The political news here in the US will dominate the airwaves for a while, and I really hope it all works out in a way that God will be pleased.
I survived open heart surgery.... :)

Ohhh, I'm so sorry, Sarah, that you've lost your Grandma.  This is surely going to be a sad time for you and your family.

God bless you, honey.

Sarah, my condolences. Although these losses come to each of us, it's very difficult to endure. May you and your family be cradled in the loving arms of God as you pass through this valley.

Sorry to hear about your Grandma Sarah - was she a believer?

Good morning all, thanks for welcoming me to your "new every morning".

What shall I contribute?  Hmmm.  Well in a recent family study of Genesis we were struck by two very special things about the creation of Eve.

1)  She was the only living creature NOT made from the dust of the ground ( but from man) and therefore somehow essentially different.

2)  She was the final act of creation, the pinnacle, the masterpiece.  No wonder we men are so easily captrivated, lol.

Praise be the to God of Creation, who lavishes beauty on every cloud and every ripple of the water, and even more, gives us eyes to see it and a heart to appreciate it and love Him for it.

Romans 1:20
For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualitiesâ€"his eternal power and divine natureâ€"have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
Religion that God our Father accepts and pure and faultless is this:  to look after orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.  James 1:27

Marilyn

Good Morning to one and all who enter here today. Pat thank you for the lovely devotion. I have always loved to read the stories of King David and his faithfulness to our Lord. I once heard a sermon on why he chose 5 stones when he went to meet Goliath in that valley. So here is a question for today:

Why DID David choose 5 stones? What is the significance of 5 stones?

Pat I sent you and IM on AOL last night with the link to the new PSP lessons, Did you get it? If notr I will send it in an email.

If you don't see me on line much it will be because  am working on my PSP lessons.

Gloria hired another caregiver yesterday to start next Thursday. She is a young lady 24 yrs. old. I hope Gloria will keep her. I have told Gloria that at the end of October I will no longer be working for her, although we will remain freinds and do things together. I don't want her to stop going to church.

Please pray for the truth to come out regarding the resignation of my Pastor. There is so much I can't talk about, but the truth needs to be known by the congregation. It is terrible what some people want to get away with doing. Not my Pastor's doing but other's. My Pastor is a wonderful godly man.

Welcome all newcomers!

We are back from a camping trip & truely can tell you that a guardian angel must be hovering over us all the time.  Pulling a low-profile trailer on the interstate in Wyoming, a tire blew on the trailer.  No swaying or anything and we were able to pull over by the side.  Withing seconds, literally, the nicest state trooper was behind us flashing his lights to warn others.  First, he tried to change our tire and the lug wrench from both our trailer and his car did not fit - so he called for a mechanic.  We went on our way after almost three hours out in the sun and heat - oh, yes, windy as well.  Safe.  We found the tire had damaged parts of the trailer as it blew upward as well as out.  Fortunately, everything works.  Beautiful park in Utah with leaves changing, deer wandering around and many many squirrels.  Enjoyed time with friends - I do not talk politics with her though.

Back today and washing has begun and we are expecting our daughter's family as grandson plays at least 4 games of hockey here in town.

I will go back at times to try to read all the posts.  Best to all.  Carol

I forgot to mention, Jenny Mc, that I, too, watched the Dr. Phil show when him and Robin interviewed President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush.  A very heart-warming interview on family.  Nothing political....just finding out their morals and standards.

Sarah, I am so sorry to hear about your Grandma.  You will miss her dearly but she is in no pain now.

Carol, your experience on the highway seems traumatic but soothing as well.  Thank God, one of you didn't have to walk somewhere to get help.  God was watching out for both of you.

Jerry and I went to my step-daughter's yesterday.  I didn't know but her husband, Cody, has been a the hospital 3 times since August 30th.  Once even flown to Indy by helicopter.  He only has 5% of the heart working.  No blockage now.  His problem is his heart.  But if he holds out, he is to have a pacemaker/defibulator put in sometime this month.  I am assuming that he will have to gain strength also.  Both of them looks exhausted.  Pray for Mary and Cody, please.

Today is another bright and sunny day.  Seems I could say 'ditto' for the last month to each day.  It is dry so I don't need to mow the grass....thank you, God.  But the leaves are falling and since I don't have any rakes that fits my hands, I mow my leaves!!!!!!

October 1st!!!!  Can you believe it?

Hi everyone.  Am trying to get here to post earlier today than I did yesterday.  This was our regular Friday morning men's coffee at our local senior center and we had a big turnout (16) and no one wanted to leave.

Last evening Pat's desktop computer suddenly stopped working correctly.  I have spent all morning, after getting back from coffee, trying various things and finally was able to use the Windows disk repair function.  Thought at one time that the hard disk was going bad but that is not the case.  I am doing a lot of maintenance on this this afternoon and will try to do a backup of everything, other than programs, today.  Her computer is going on 5 years old so know the hard disk is subject to failure one of these days.  It will take the rest of the day to complete this work.

Sarah, I certainly send my condolences to you and your family in the loss of your grandmother.  It is always hard to give them up.

Welcome to CROUCHPOTATOS.  We are happy to have you join us here on the CP site.

Liz, it sounds like you all were met to have the new cat and I know it will now have a good home.  Glad there was a happy ending to the situation.

Jenny, I saw your note yesterday about seeing me online but not until several hours later.  Thanks for your continued good thoughts and prayers.  I was shocked to read the news about Tony Blair, although saw an article yesterday that he was having something done today to deal with an irregular heart beat.

Steve, I looked at your photos and they are quite beautiful.  Thanks for sharing them.  I am not a photographer but know what I like and your certainly appealed to me.

Marilyn, I have no idea about why David choose the 5 stones.  If I have read it I have forgotten it.  Will be interested to hear the answer.  Sorry to read about the unrest in your congregation.  It makes a difficult time for everyone and has lasting impact.  Glad to read that Gloria has found someone else and you will soon be relieved of this most undesirable situation.

Carol, certainly a frightening experience you all had with your camper.  Glad you are safely home and hope that Don did not do any serious damage to his leg.  Sounds like you had a great trip.  Enjoy the hockey games.

Sonja, don't be discouraged.  You do beautiful photography and the awards will be forthcoming.

Guess I had better get busy on my wife's computer.  A special hi to all I haven't addressed today but that have or will be posting.

Sonifo

Thanks Pat!

Thanks Larry!

Will be praying, Etta Sue!

(hugs) to alll!

Hi everybody.  First day of a new month.  I need some prayer.  My cat, Bonz, got out and has disappeared.  He's the only one I have now, and it's so lonesome in the house without him.  I really want him to show up on my doorstep again.  He's not got any front claws and is neutered, so shouldn't have to roam.  I'm putting out flyers. I know ya'll care about the animals that are such good company for us, so thank you for your prayers for his safe return.

Papa John

Good to see everyone today.  I slipped and captured today’s posts.  Sorry about Sarah’s grandmother.

We have enjoyed our week’s vacation.  On our deck we can see the mountains and enjoy the beauty of this place.  Unfortunately we have had so much fog we didn’t really get a lot of pictures.

I understand that Tony Blair’s procedure went well and that he will be back in his office Monday.

Marilyn, I could be wrong but I don’t believe the Bible tells us WHY five stones were chosen.  If it does I’ll will be glad to find out.  Here is what Adam Clarke says about it.

1 Samuel 17:40  PP5

â€œIn the use of the sling it requires much practice to hit the mark; but when once this dexterity is acquired, the sling is nearly as fatal as the musket or bow; see the note at <1 Sam. 17:49>. David was evidently an expert marksman; and his sling gave him greatly the advantage over Goliath; an advantage of which the giant does not seem to have been aware. He could hit him within any speaking distance; if he missed once, he had as many chances as he had stones; and after all, being unencumbered with armour, young, and athletic, he could have saved his life by flight. Against him the Philistine could do but little, except in close fight; it is true he appears to have had a javelin or missile spear (see the note at <1 Sam. 17:6>), but David took care to prevent the use of all such weapons, by giving him the first blow.”
(from Adam Clarke Commentary)

--- Papa John          <;D)))><<

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Marilyn - I'd be very inclined to agree with Papa John's comments regarding the five stones.  Not every number in OT or NT has significance beyond ordinary explanations.
