Prayer is like breathing - the Christian must do it to live

Morning Devotional...

1 THESS 5:17

Pray Without Ceasing

True prayer is a little like the bubbles from boiling water - they result from heat within. Effective Prayer must be from the heart, and it must result from inner concern and urgency.  Paul had plenty of that inner concern and urgency, and the result was that his prayer life was constant and fervent.  In his first letter to the Thessalonians, chapter 3, verses 9, 10, he says, "For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sake before our God, night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and perfect what is lacking in your faith?"  He was moved to great joy and eagerness whenever he so much as  thought of God’s people at Thessalonica. The result was that he just had to pray; he just had to plead with his Lord to allow him to come and perfect them even further in their relationship to Christ.

Nor should such an attitude be limited to apostles or other leaders, as though it was only for a "higher" kind of Christian. To the same Thessalonians Paul said, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."  We ALL ought to be filled with thanksgiving for our brothers and sisters in Christ; we ALL ought to desire with great inner desire to help them in their Christian walk; we ALL ought to be full of prayer day and night for one another.  Brothers and sisters - why are we not so moved?  May God revive us!

Pray for your brothers and sisters today.  Pray for each of the people in your church.  Pray for each of us here.  Pray for each member of your family.  Be consumed by prayer.  It won’t be in vain.

~Al Moak~

Come My Soul, Thy Suit Prepare

Come my soul, thy suit prepare:
Jesus loves to answer prayer;
He Himself has bid thee pray,
Therefore will not say thee nay.

Thou art coming to a King,
Large petitions with thee bring;
For His grace and power are such,
None can ever ask too much.

Good morning! It surprises me when I get to be first to come in our new discussion.

I hope all of you are doing well. Will be hurrying off to work - there's been a terrible collision with loss of life on the interstate near my office building, so must try to leave a few moments earlier.

It's so sad that lives are lost for a bit of inattention and maybe too much speed.

Has anyone ever heard the statistics on how much faster you get a mile down the way with safe versus unsafe speed? Isn't it just a few moments' difference? I'd rather follow traffic rules and arrive there safely that present my family with the trauma of sudden crisis.

Y'all have a good day.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Sarah

good morning, getting ready to head off to another day of school only 2 more this month.... ruth ann i'd rather u travel at a safe speed than an unsafe one too i've seen the traumatic happenings that traveling at an unsafe faster speed can lead too  :'( so sad..... i used to travel at really fast speeds i've since slowed down a lot... anyways must get to school ttyl

Pastor Al:  Thank you for today's devotional.  Martin Luther must have used the words of Paul because I remember a quote attributed to ML.

Etta Sue:  You never know, we are going to try to pull our little trailer to Minnesota next summer as Don wants to go fishing and stay at the lakes he remembers as a child.

Larry:  I helped hand-tie quilts at church yesterday as well and after a huge grocery shopping plus the normal things, we did not make it to service  :(  - there is only so much energy.  Our quilts now are going to several reservations.

Jenny:  I wrote the name of the book Eli - let us know what you think about it.

Janet:  Have never heard of your eye problem.  My glasses are driving me crazy but it hasn't been even two years so do not want to spend the money yet.  Well, we will take the good moments for Beth and rejoice.

Pat:  How many sites should we visit per day?

What a neat ana logy (it won't let me spell the word correctly)

The passion (heat) inside is what makes for effectual fervant prayer.  At times I have felt that my prayers were just words I was saying, by rote, no "heat from within".....and to be honest they were.

My most passionate prayer's have been ones that have been heartfelt....and honest and contained heat from within..

Hi Ed!  On our list of "banned words" is "A N A L" as we felt that it wasn't a proper adjective for a Christian site so now any word with those letters in it won't print properly so if you use spaces as you did, we'll get the idea!  LOL

C A N A L looks like this if it's just written normally...  canal

What a great statement, Al.  And what a wonderful devotion today.  Thanks so much.  Prayer is so important for Christians.  As you have above, "True prayer is a little like the bubbles from boiling water - they result from heat within. Effective Prayer must be from the heart, and it must result from inner concern and urgency.  Paul had plenty of that inner concern and urgency, and the result was that his prayer life was constant and fervent."  Oh, that I might experience those "bubbles" today!

Thanks Al!

Carol, you ask how many sites to visit each day.  You can visit as many as you wish.  Go to the ones in other areas like in our Photography discussions.  There's some really neat sites in there and also the recipe section.

Have a good day at school, Sarah!  Talk to you later.  Glad you slowed down in your driving!  :o

Ruth Ann, it was so nice speaking with you on the telephone.  I hope that the bill wasn't too high!   :o  Hope you have a good day at work.  Awful about that crash!

Good Morning to one and all. Thank you Pastor Al for the devotional this morning. Prayer is soooooo important.

We had a subistute teacher at Bible Study last night. She is a wonderful teacher. Our study was on James 5:1-6. I never realized that James was talking about money in that passage.

I like the new game Pat. Some of the words, make you think a bit to come up with another associated with the one before. Or to chuckle a bit with another persons entry.

Got to work today at Jan's.

Pat, do you think we might take that word off the banned list now, as it hasn't been used in a long time........and it does confuse folks.  Maybe Oldiesman could do it for us.

I am spending more time in prayer these days, concerning our election.  It's truly a matter of life or death this time around.

Pat, I think maybe Carol was asking about how many ads she should (or could) click on.........just guessing.

No news from here, just wanted to say hello.

Jerry and I got to visit with Tony and Charlene before going to Small Groups last evening.  They seem so much more relaxed since the wedding is over.  I also got to see a lot of wedding pictures on their pc.  Really nice taken with family digital cameras.  They are keeping Carol's miniature Doberman Pinscher, Skeeter!  He has never made up with me but he let Jerry and I both pet him last night.  Probably because Carol wasn't there.  He is so tiny.  Half the size of Inky!!!!!!!

Small groups was great last night.  I am loving the way we all connect with each other now.  Really nice.

This evening is when the furnace man comes.  I am praying that he does find something wrong that he can fix that will make my furnace be more efficient and in the long run cheaper to run.

Janet, our church is having a community prayer night Monday evening for the elections.  I have heard that there are over 10,000 lawyers on stand by .... just in case, they think that someone needs to sue someone over something!  Duh!!!!

Failure and Success: The Things That Matter

..that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be
sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with
the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory
and praise of God.
--Philippians 1:10-11

In life there will be found certain great fundamentals, like pillars
bearing up the weight of some mighty building....

The wise man will simplify his life by going to the center of it. He
will look well to the foundations and, having done that, he will not
worry about the rest.

Life as we know it in our painfully intricate civilization can be
deadly unless we learn to distinguish the things that matter from
those that do not. It is never the major things that destroy us, but
invariably the multitude of trifling things which are mistakenly
thought to be of major importance. These are so many that, unless we
get out from under them, they will crush us body and soul....

Every believer as well as every minister of Christ must decide
whether he will put his emphasis upon the majors or the minors. He
must decide whether he will stay by the sober truths which
constitute the beating heart of the Scriptures or turn his attention
to those marginal doctrines which always bring division and which,
at their best, could not help us much on our way to the Celestial
City.  The Next Chapter After the Last, 11,14.

"Oh God, we are so inundated with distracting things and clamorous
voices. Deliver me today from the trifling things and help me to
spend every minute of the day on 'the things that matter.' Amen."

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.

I have had a nice, sort of unhurried day.  Went to coffee and then later in the morning Pat and I went to the "Y" for about an hour.  Came home and ate a bite of lunch and then went to Calvin Cove for the music as I had to miss on my regular Tuesday.  Came home and took a nap and am now reading the positngs and listening to a Josh Groban CD.  He has such a beautiful voice and very nice arrangements.

Yesterday we were very saddened at the death of the husband of our former Calvin Cove director.  He was 70 years old and had been admitted to the hosptial with congestive heart failure and then developed an infection.  He seemed to be getting better and then all of a sudden he had massive brain hemmorages.  My wife and a number of other church members from our senior group were at the church, as I mentioned in my posting yesterday, and they all rushed to the hospital to be with his wife.  It was an ordeal as he was an organ donor and they were keeping his heart and lungs going on machines until they could harvest the organs.  She wouldn't leave the hosptial and we heard last night that things were still progressing slowly.  The funeral is going to be Sunday afternoon in our church and our choir will be singing.  I think we will be singing "On Eagles Wings".  It was a sad evening at Vespers and choir practice.  He was a long term member of our church and will certainly be missed.

Al, thank you for that fine devotional on prayer.

Welcome  KREATIVE4JESUS, peteckel and OURHONDAS to CP.

Pat, I agree with Janet that you need to remove the word from the filter list as each time it is filtered  the word is really emphasized, which  defeats the purpose.

I just now clicked on one of the Google ads and it was for puppies for sale and has a very cute photo gallery.  I have seen some interesting ads.

Janet

Thanks, Larry, you said it better than I.  Sorry about the loss of your friend.

I'm not feeling like "me" today, so probably the less I say, the better.  Don't want to put my foot in my mouth! :-X

AMAZING GRACE
(Click title to hear music)

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
Shall be forever mine.

When we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we'd first begun.

Welcome to the newcomers!  It's always so nice to see new names come up, and PAT, I love your Welcome card to them.  So clever and creative.

Janet, that old "not feeling like myself" hits us all. :)  I hope you're feeling like your old self soon.  I like your old self...but then again....I'm sure I'd like your new old self too. :)

I've been in prayer for the elections also.  And for our nation......for the church.  Mostly I pray that we will become humble and surrendered to the Lord, so that He can truly live His Life in His church.  In that position we have such authority.....and in any other position, we have only words blown by the wind.    Lord,  keep me at Your feet! please.

I’m just going to stop in to say hello.  Good to see Ria back with us.  We have missed you.

Welcome to the newcomers.

1 Pet 1:21-25
21   Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
22   Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.
23   For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
24   For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,
