Morning Devotional...

He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in Him...He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.
1 John 2:4, 6

It is so easy to talk about our position in Christ but these verses remind us that a right walk should accompany right talk.

In fact, if what we say is not backed up by our manner of life, we need to seriously check the reality of our faith.

Because of their behavior the Corinthians were told to examine themselves to see whether they were in the faith (2 Cor. 13:5).

May we humbly do so today.

Oh, for a Heart to Praise My God
(Click to hear music)

Create in me a clean heart,
O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10

Author:  Charles Wesley, 1707-1788
Musician:  James J. Walch, 1837-1901

O for a heart to praise my God,
A heart from sin set free,
A heart that always feels Thy blood
So freely shed for me.

A heart resigned, submissive, meek,
My great Redeemer's throne,
Where only Christ is heard to speak,
Where Jesus reigns alone.

A humble, lowly, contrite, heart,
Believing, true and clean,
Which neither life nor death can part
From Christ who dwells within.

A heart in every thought renewed
And full of love divine,
Perfect and right and pure and good,
A copy, Lord, of Thine.

My heart, Thou know'st, can never rest
Till Thou create my peace;
Till of mine Eden repossest,
From self, and sin, I cease.

Thy nature, gracious Lord, impart;
Come quickly from above;
Write Thy new name upon my heart,
Thy new, best name of Love.

Pat..........

Ouch. :)  Yep it happened again.  My problem is that I get on the PC at this time and don't pay any attention to the time.  I had post to Liz and it's off in space someplace. :)

To whomever........

After dinner tonight my friend Tom called to thank us for introducing him to Barbara.  He said he feeels like a kid having been on his first blind date.  It was fun for Vivian and myself.

I came into the forum and read everyone's posts and they showed one very important ingredient inherent to believers...."LOVE".

If you folks look back on your lives and think of all the cop stories on TV, in the movies, or in the news,  you most likely won't recall one detective or street cop that loved (or even liked) people who use(d) drugs.  The primary reason was, and is, that it almost mandates the user to be involved in a wide varieity of crimes from petty theft to murder.  Knowing this, you know the former Lee.  Now, in comes Jesus Christ.  What's next?  I love Marilyn with all my Christian heart (Only Jesus Christ could do this).  How? for many reasons.  One "He said he will change our hearts".  He did.  Marilyn believed He would change [her] heart, and He did.  He told us that without love, "we are as sounding brass and clanging cymbals" (1 Corinthians 13:1-13)  And, we both love Him for not only having changed our hearts, but for forgiving us all of our wretchedness, and seeing us as future perfect, and, as His saints.  All of us are members of a 'Church" congregation that numbers in the millions, and still growing.  Just think folks, during the Tribulation period the three angels, and the 144,000 (Jews, mind you) will increase our flock to untold millions that will number the sands of the sea.  Awesome.

Uh oh ....  :o  I didn't make it before Pat locked the door!   :-\  Oh, well .... LEE, you should be able to duck that swinging door pretty adroitly by now.   :D  Sorry ...
You know what it is, don't you?  We out here in the West are just hitting our stride when those "others" are hitting the hay!   ::)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Speaking of stride.....here I am sleepily checking in.  Nothing strideful here, I'm afraid. :)

I was interested in the conversations about dropping in on your kids, because I've never dropped in on anyone I don't think.  Not even my parents, up to the time dad was in a nursing home, and I was taking care of mom.   Then when I did go, it was because she was expecting me, and I didn't want a phone call to disturb her if she was napping.

I guess I am maybe too far the other way. I could just never do that.  I'm always afraid that they might be ready to do something else, and I'd be in the way and they wouldn't tell me. haha     That'd be worse to me than them telling me.

Funny how we're all different.  I'm that way from my mom, I know.   My kids aren't all that way, but I always was with my folks and with them.

Marilyn, you have come such a long way, dear sister.  What a beautiful testimony of God's grace and forgiveness.  I am just so very happy for you.    I know what it is to be forgiven.  I know what it is to have our Wonderful Lord Jesus rescue you from where you are hidden among all the garbage.....and to feel His amazing Love, and that He actually desires you......it was the first truly pure love I had ever known.  He made me clean again, washed me and lifted me up to Himself.  I know you understand.  I wrote a song once about "You are my first Love.....and You'll be my last.  You are my future, because You've taken my past.  There is no other to love me like you do.....and oh my Jesus....I love You too."    There is no One like our Jesus.....our Lover, our Husband, our Hiding Place, our Everything. :) :)  Bless you, Marilyn.

 Still have company.

Heard from Olympus today.  They want $150 to repair my camera.  There is no detailed explanation of what's wrong or how it might have happened...just "$144 - Labor".  And then the rest for shipping.  I've put in an email request for more info.  How could they expect anyone to pay for this when they don't even know how it breaks down or what they repaired?  And do I want to put this much money into a camera that was under $500 new?     I guess I have to make a decision.

Night from sort-of-rainy Oregon.  Oh how I pray that this rain would be for California too.

I love all of you.   nita

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

JudyB

Jane it must be nearly midnight there in Oregon.

Lee that is what it is all about LOVE.

I guess they thought if you could afford a Rolex you could afford the repairs.  I have a clock (mantle style) that is not working.  I paid 300 dollars 7 years ago and now it won't stay running and the chimes are really wacky.  I am resistant to paying another 300.  Pastor Dennis by trade is a watchmaker, and he can fix the clock, I just hate to bother him with the mundane.  Not sure what to do.   By the way the clock was my fathers and I am not sure of the age.  Pat may have an idea about that.

I have a question that will spark conversation.  What should you do if you have proof of a person telling a lie.  I was asked this recently and I thought I would go for some wise council.  The girl IWho asked the question has been confrontational (much like I am about lying) but a dear friend says to let the Lord deal with it and not ask quwstions that will cause a lie.  To me that sounds like avoidance.  What do you think.

I am still struggling with this cold.  I have a non stop cough from sandpaper in the throat.  I am heading to bed again and see if this time I can sleep.

Have a good night / morning everyone.

Good morning all 10.00AM in Holland

Pat that you for the good devotional and the nice hymn. I love it every morning.

Are you all busy with Christmass shopping???
That is also coming in Holland. But the most people
in Holland have on 5 dec. St. NICOLAS.
On 5 dec. they are saying that is his birthday   he also is going to the schools. When i was a child and also when my son was a little boy there was only St. Nicolas. When my son for the first time saw St.Nicolas
he was sick and St. Nicolas was coming in home he has
cryed cryed he was so afraid.
I was happy that the man was going away.
And with St.icolas is coming the jack of spades.
Little children are very restless in that time.
Half nov. he is coming with the boat from Spain to Holland so called.
It is a nice fairy tale but when you have little children
then you are very happy when it is 6 dec. St. Nicolas
away and the children have their presents.

This morning i have read in the Bible Joh.9  NIV
and i love the words.
Joh. 9-5
While i am in the world, I am the Light of the World

I wish you all a very good day
Bye for now
Love RIA

Maria

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHY

JUDY.

I had a similar confrontational experience some years ago....with Christian brethren from my Pentecostal Church, where I went before we moved across the city...
They worked as Caretakers (can't say where....that would be unfair...She is dead now and he is retired).
The lady offered me lots of cleaning equipment and disinfectant....she said she gave it to everyone...I REFUSED AND TOLD HER THAT WAS NOT CHRISTIAN and THAT IT WAS ........STEALING.
I was not trying to be "Holier than Thou"...I have always been unable to accept things in this way.....P'raps it's with coming from a Police Family.
However, this couple were in a place of High Authority....They would certainly have been sacked.
They were part of the "In crowd" at the church.
I didn't find myself as welcome there again.......

I believe we must stand up for the TRUTH.  Only the TRUTH SETS FREE. and we want all men and women to become "free" in Christ.

STAND UP STAND UP FOR JESUS
YOU SOLDIERS OF THE CROSS.
LIFT HIGH HIS ROYAL BANNER
IT MUST NOT SUFFER LOSS.   AMEN

GOOD MORNING FOLKS...

Praise God for a much warmer day here, although very wet.

Thanks Ria for the Tale of St. Nicholas......It is a good story and one which the Anglican Church use....He was a real man and gave gifts to children...
This tells them of the love of God who gave us the Best Christmas Present EVER......HIS SON....
Time for the "heavy" stuff as they grow up......I pray that all Children will come to know JESUS and grow closer to Him day by day.

JUDY sorry you are poorly...My grandson Phillip phoned last night to tell me he has flu and his asthma is playin g up too...more Prednisolone (steroids) and anti-biotics, he likes Nanny to give him some comfort...My Phillip!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHY

:)  Happy to write that we were able to get the desktop computer working and I put CP in here.  I don't know if anyone remembers that everything was wiped out on our computer by a techie - we paid them $75 to ruin all our work  ???  However, we cannot get the printer working now.  We did get the scanner started again.  So many hours & actually weeks of frustration & we sure do not want to buy a new computer.

I read a few posts and want to wish everyone a fine day today or perhaps if you are sleeping away as it is your nightime - sleep well.

Coffee this morning with friends & we are sure to be discussing our friend who is still in Critical Care from her anuerisym (sp)  - her speech has all come back we do hear & that is wonderful  She had a lot of people praying for her.

Here, we are waiting to see what days our friends will visit this week - on their yearly trek from Minnesota to Arizona for the winter.

Spirituality is tonight at the church.  We come away refreshed I would say 95% of the time - sometimes the group gets too talky or should I say a couple of very talkative people but they have their place there too.

Hi everyone and happy birthday Kathy.

We have the sun out today and it is suppose to get to 70 degrees.  The older I get the more I enjoy the sunny days.  Went for coffee at the cafe this morning and then stopped at Krogers for a few items and then at the post office to mail something.  About wore myself out.  :D

Carol, have you used the cleaning command on your printer.  Most printers, if not used for a couple of weeks will have dried ink in the jets and won't print until the cleaning cycle is used.  At least that has been my experience.  Glad you got your desktop to work again.

Pat, a good devotional message today and there were certainly some interesting discussions yesterday.

Jenny, glad you are experiencing a warmer day over your way.  Know that is appreciated.

Judyb, I don't know exactly how I would deal with someone who I knew was lying to me although I am sure I would never trust them again in what they said until it was proven.

Ria, thanks for sharing the story behind St. Nicholas.

Good to see everyone posting.

Marilyn

Good Morning: Thank you Past for the devotional this morning. It is good to see everyone who has already been here.

Lee I knew when I posted about my son's father and the MM and the AB that you would understand what I was talking about. Two very bad groups.

I have been watching about the fires this morning, I am so glad that I moved up here when I did. I see they have evacuated Big Bear which is only 25 miles from Lucerne Valley. LV Must really be full of smoke. I am praying for all my friends there.

Yesterday Bea said to me " I wonder what sins have been commited that would cause all these places to be burning up, they must have been awfully bad". Or something like that anyway, I have paraphrased he words.

Going to look at the other forums now

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KATHY!!  And many more!

Lots of good food for thought here today.  Jenny, I agree with you 100%!  We have had discussions about that (Darrel and I) because we are in the security business.  He says so many who work in schools and offices think nothing of taking paper, pens, pencils, paper clips, etc. home from their work place, for their private use, and it is stealing!  I guess some maybe never thought of it as such, but can you imagine the millions of $$ worth of such things that are taken each year?  Good for you, for refusing to accept the cleaning supplies.  We need to be honest in ALL our dealings!

Carol!  good to see you this morning!  I am so sorry about all those pesky computer problems you've been having.  It is amazing how, once we start using a computer, we get so dependent on it.  I am having some problems, too.  My grandson who helps me with mine says I need to buy more memory, and maybe reformat the hard drive.  (I have no earthly idea how to do that!)

Lee, I agree with you, this is a place filled with love.  And I am happy that we can sometimes disagree without being disagreeable!

Mieka! You are learning!  Pretty soon you will be singing along with us! ;) ;D  ((((hugs))))

Hello, Larry!  Tomorrow, drop by our house for coffee.  What time shall we expect you?  (Don't I wish?) :'(

Hello, Ria!  Three years ago, I was in Romania on a missionary trip at the time of St. Nicholas Day.  The children all put out their shoes and received candy and small gifts.  They were excited and happy, and I didn't see any who were afraid.  But this was a Christian orphanage we were working with; that may have been the difference.  The workers were all so good in teaching the children of the love of Jesus.  I met an older boy at one of the medical clinics we did.  His name was Alex, he was 18 years old, and he told me that was the last year that he would get to put out his shoes for the treats!  He was so sweet and childlike.  I shared my little lunch with him and he was very appreciative.  I met several kids I just wanted to bundle up and bring home with me!

Nita I have three kids whom I feel I need to call first before going to see them, and two who make us feel welcome any time.  If they have plans, they don't mind telling us, and we don't mind saying "Oops, sorry!  We will come another time."  You're right, we are all different.  I used to think nobody needed to call me first, but now, it is nice SOMETIMES to have a bit of warning.  I may want to put on makeup or straighten the house before they get here!  But any of my family and friends are welcome any time.

I think I will hit post before this turnes into a book!

Good morning, folks!

Ria~we don't do the St. Nicholas or Santa Claus thing here at our house.  We focus on Jesus Christ.  We know he wasn't born on that exact day but we still use that day to celebrate his birth.
All through the month of December we talk about what he has done for us and we make Birthday cards for him and put them on the fireplace mantel.  We have church plays and sing praises to him.  There are many kids here who believe in Santa Claus.  I feel it is just a big lie parents tell their kids.  Just my oppinion.  Oh ya...we don't do the easter bunny thing either.

The reason why is I remember when I found out there wasn't a santa claus.  I was so sad.  I wondered why my parents had lied to me.

How did all you feel when you found out?

Marilyn

HA HA PAT IS THAT A PICTURE OF YOU?

I have two dogs on either side of me begging for attention and pets. Happdog is all up in my lap with his face bumping my arm. Gotta go now and give them some lovin'.

HI everyone!

This is just going to be a quick post, I have a number of things that I am looking forward to doing today,  but felt that I must get in here and start my day off right!

Ria, I love hearing from you when you tell us things of Holland.  My mom and dad tried to tell us growing up the traditions from Holland, but I am afraid I have forgotten many of the things that they taught us.  So it is good for me to be reminded.

I have placed some pretty big goals on myself in the last while, deciding that there are things that I wanted to do while I was growing up that I never took the time to do.  One of those things is going back to school and getting my dipolma.  I was one of those foolish teens who decided to drop out of school because it was boring.  Well I have finally taken the advice that I have been giving my 9 yr old step son, to heart.....if I want to get to the challenging stuff, I first have to go through the boring stuff.  So I have an appointment next week with the adult learning center here in Cambridge, to get myself into some correspondence courses, to at least start to fulfill my dreams of higher education.

While growing up I wanted to be a doctor, a brain surgeon to be exact.  Then it changed to other kinds of doctors, finanally ending up with my dream to be a "Baby" doctor, or an Obstatrician (sp).  I was then going to settle and take a midwifery course, so that I could still deliver babies.  Well my focus has changed again.  This time off medicine all together.  As much as I think the life of a doctor would be a facinating one, I like my sleep to much to be a doctor, with all the on call days, etc.    So my focus has changed to social work.  My sister in law, whom I adore, (she has become my best friend) is going through University to be a social worker.  I often help her with her papers and assignments.  She has trouble sometimes simplifying things, and has disconvered that I have a knack of being able to simplify just about anything...so she looks to me for help quite often.  I am learning all kinds of things by doing this.  Jon has commented a few times that I am starting to sound like a social worker with the way I talk.

Anyway, this now being my goal and focus, I first need to finish my high school.  Not for the University I would choose to go to, as I could go into that school as an adult student, and after writing an entrance exam, I wouldn't need my OSSD, but as a personal goal, and the desire to do "the boring things in life" so I can move on to the more challenging things in life.

Have a great day everyone.  This has certainly turned into a longer post than I first intended.

Love to all
Heather

JudyB

Santa Claus Day.

That is something I could participate in.  The 5th of December is well away from the 25th and would take the commertialism away from the rememberance of His birth.  Ria Mom and Dad would tell me that the 25th would be spent like a Holy Day, a special Sunday with church services and so on.  Is this still done?  At one time I had a record for the shildren with Santa Clause songs on it.  It was well used and got quite scratched.  Heather Bonnie and Doug loved to listen to it.

Three traditions we as a church family starts the first weekend of December.  We have a dinner put on by our ladies society.  The week before Christmas on the Sunday evening the SundaySchool children put on a concert or a play complete with a nativity scene.  They have already been practixing sor this.  Finally Christmas Eve we have a candlelight service and anyone who has a song or verse can participate.  We have a wonderful time for an hour then head home to spend the evening and Christmas Day with family.

Marilyn I have Jake and Bruno bumping my arm too most mornings.  Jake gets his head right under my hand to totallt stop me from typing.  It is so funny,  he wants all my attention on him and nothing else.  I give him the attention and he is content . . . . . for about 5 minutes then it starts again.  LOL LOL LOL  His blindness is increasing, if he sees something unusual, even if he can get around it, (if I park the car in a different place) he will stop and not try to go around at all unless I am there to guide him.  I am his seeing eye person.

So Sad

I just wanted to share with you all how my last few days have been going.

I have a purpose, not sure what it is yet but I have a purpose.  God made me and loves me.  ;D  I am telling myself that every chance I get.  Me being here isn't about me, it is about God!  I need to stop focusing my attention on me.  I am not getting anywhere doing that.  I need to focus my attention on God and the purpose he has for me.

This is the happiest I have been in a long time.  ::) or maybe ever.  I am understanding it now.  All this time I was reading the bible and doing what was right, but not having a purpose and knowing there is a purpose for me.

God does not lie, He can not lie so I need to trust Him and believe what He says is true.  Thank you Lee!  You helped me with that.

You all are so great! Thank you all for being my friend.

Thanks Etta Sue for the book recommendation.  I love it.  My family loves it.  We are memerizing scripture everyday.

You know what else is cool?  This past week as God has been speaking to me through all of you and just in the little things in my life that go on daily here.  He has guided me to this point and I trust that he will guide me even farther.  Man, that is so awesome!!!!!!!

God is Awesome!!!

Thanks for listening...I hope this all makes sense to you because i am just so jazzed here.  I am not sure how to write down all that i feel.

Have a good day all!!!  God loves you!

Sonja

I am praying that everyone has a God Blessed Day!

Jane ~ How did the MRI come out?  Any diagnosis yet?

Marilyn ~ I call and make appointments (not exactly appointments but to see if they are going to be home) to see my son because they are sooooo busy.  He is 11 miles away and I would hate to go and them not be home or are heading out the door or, heaven forbid, that I keep them from doing something they had planned.  I let Tony know that Jerry and I were stopping last evening.  Charlene wasn't there.  Two times now.  I kiddingly let him know that I was getting the message that she didn't want to see us.  Talk about someone that has the candle lit at both ends...Charlene does!  But she is a sweetie!  Two of Charlene's kids haven't been in this house and I have been here 2 years next month.  That is okay....they are busy like their Mama.

In our small group, it was discussed how we portrayed God when we were a child.  Some said they were scared of God because he was Father and their own father was not a kindly nice man and some were even missing from the family.  I think that would be hard.  Jesus Christ was a friendly God where the Father wasn't so friendly as portrayed in the OT.

Okay...I am determined to do these PSP lessons and get them out of my way.  I do believe they bring some stress to my life.  But I am also not a quiter...when I start something, I stick with it until it is done.  So as soon as I get caught up and eat a bite of lunch, then it is lesson time for me.  Homestead emailed me another fix for my Website but it still doesn't work.... :'(

Sonya thank you.  That was something I needed to hear today.  I have been strugglling too with the same point.  What kind of purpose can God have for a 54 yo woman.  There doesn't seem to be a vision either.  Like you put it I need to focus on HIM and less  on me.

Sonifo

Hi Pat! I love you too.   :-*  That little frog is so cute.  LOL..funny too.

Heather~ that is great that you want to go back to school.  You go girl!  You can do it.  I didn't graduate from highschool either, not that it was boring but I had a job and had to pay for my rent and food and stuff.  I tried going to school and working but it was to hard for me.  And of course I had to make a living so I chose the job.
I did later in life get my GED.  I will go to the community college here when my girls get a little older.  This is going to sound weird, but I would love to learn how to weld.  I would love to make things out of iron that people would like to stick in their yard.   ::)
Anyhow, good luck!

I really don't mind people just dropping in on me, but when Travis was really little, I appreciated a phone call or something so I knew he was fed.  The biggest reason to call here before you come by is to make sure we are here. ::)

I'll drop by my mom's without notice, but I usually call my in-laws, just to make sure they aren't busy.

GOD

As a teen I was really afraid.  In so many areas of life I was a faillure.  In school the teachers would give me marks for pictures and diagrams just so they could get me out of their class.  I lived most of my life in a pea soup kind of fog.  How could God love me when I was so unable to meet the grade, or for that matter even see beyond my immediate surroundings.  It has taken a long time to realize that I don't have to meet any kind of grade that my Father loves me for who I am not what I do.  It has been hard.

BUT ..... GOD IS GOOD

ALL THE TIME.

Oh, Sonja!  I am so happy to see (hear? read?) you being so happy and jazzed!  Thank you, God!  I wanted to tell you, too, to please read the book of Revelation.  It is the only book in the Bible we are promised to be blessed just for reading it! And though some passages are a little hard to understand, lots of it is very clear.

Hi Karma!  Did you get to sleep a little later this morning?
My book Rising Above available at JanetDamon.com

Well!! Good morning <again>.  For some reason the email notification didn't work for me this time and I have just plowed through   read three pages of posts to get to this place!  Now, while I'm writing, I suppose several more will come in.  Oh, well, I'll just say "Hi" to EVERYONE!!    that should do it!   ;D

I am really happy that so many are finding "purpose" for their lives.  I often wondered just what purpose there was for my life.  I have come to understand that, for this time in my life, I am to be "restfully available" for whatever He has or wants to do through me.  I just want to get myself out of the way -- totally -- so Jesus can be seen and touch lives as we (Jesus in me) go about the every day--every moment--things of life.

I got an email from my Pastor Ron this morning.  He wrote: "Thank you so much for all your help and encouraging words and PRAYERS . You are such a gift from our Lord. God bless you and your day, and keep on keeping on!!"  That's all Jesus, none of Jane.  I wrote in the bulletin recently: "Today is a gift from God.  That's why it's called the present.  Use it wisely."  As far as I'm concerned every day is a new beginning ... a gift from God ... and I will (I choose to) rejoice and be glad in it!

ETTA SUE~ I don't know when, or if, I'll know the results of the MRI.  There is really no reason to tell me anything anyway cuz I know there's nothing to tell!  My doctor is going to be out of the office for the next two weeks and when he returns I am scheduled for a stress test on the treadmill.  That will be the 13th of Nov.   :-\

I have spent enough time here for now ... I'll be back d'rectly, however....after I find something for breakfast.

PAT~I love your "Good Morning"!!    ;D

No, Karma didn't get to sleep much later.  Trabman woke up about 6:50, and he was ready for a day full of fun.  Looks like the shift from Daylight Savings to Eastern Standard means that Karma can't stay up till 14 o'clock at night any more.... :)

Hello, everybody!  Glad to see Sonja jazzed up!

Nita, there's no way I would pay that much to have a camera over a year old fixed.  That is, unless it were a $500 or more camera.  But that's just me.  If you really like it, it might be worth it.  But $2-300 will get you a really good camera, these days.  I would definitely do some shopping.

Gotta go get some lunch.  I'll drop back by later!

I see.  The rip off's are getting worse too.  My son has a camera that John gave him.  He sent it in to be repaired and it is costion him about $300.  The camera is not worth half of that, he agreed to it because of the sentimental value.

Wow I was off the computer for less than 1 hour and had 2 1/2 pages to read to catch up.

I have been on the phone to a couple of my friends down south in Lucerne Valley. The smoke is very bad there and the people of LV have opened up their homes to the one evacuated from Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead.

The market there that usually closes at 10 pm is remaining open for 24 hours to accomodate the people coming down the mopuntain from BB.

My friend Mona has her whole family with her that had to evacuate their home and some other people and animals from BB. She said the smoke is so thick it looks like night. They have to keep their heads and faces covered from the smoke and hot ash falling  everywhere.

I also spoke to Kitty who is having a rough time because of her lung problem. Pauls surgery hs not been rescheduled yet, not way to get down the Cajon pass until all this fire is over.

Well that's all for now, just thought I would update you on the place I used to live. Pray for everyone.

I believe we can blame adult teachers for making our Lord appear as the bad guy in the old Testament.  Thank the Lord we have the capability to read for ourselves and are able to see just how loving God (Jesus Christ) truly was in the O.T.  And then through our studies we are able to understand His fury (anger) toward His wayward children, and how it was also directed toward His enemies.

You've said the magic words.  "Read Revelation".  I've taught it for over 13+ years and to me [now] it is very easy to read.  The beauty of Revelation is that it is "The Revelation of Jesus Christ".  As I've written before, the O.T. is the N.T. concealed, and the N.T. is the O.T. revealed.  God tells us of our beginnings in the O.T. and completes His Bible in the book of Revelation by telling us just exactly how He is going to bring His creation (The world) to it's close, and at the end of the Book He tells us the good news of Eternity future with HIm.

When we make a study of Revelation we find ourselves steeped deply into the O.T. prophecies.  I've read (And heard) where some people have said they don't preach Revelation in their churches, nor do they spend much time on prophecies.  Oh how these churches are robbing their congregations of what the Bible is all about.  God spoke more about hell than He does heaven.  Of the over 2400  prophecies in the Bible, most have come true and all to the very letter.  There are 300 prophecies about our Lord Jesus Christ, and most all of them have come to fruition, and the next cataclysmic event regarding Jesus Christ will be His coming to claim His church (Known as the Rapture) as found in 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17.  This signals the casting of Satan out of heaven to earth and the beginnings of the 7-year Tribulation.   :) I could write for hours on this fascinating and revealing subject.  Yes, Janet, "Read Revelation"

Oh yes.  You mentioned my favorite Biblical verse Rev.1:3.  "Keeping those things which are written in it" means to know, or understand, and he/she will then be blessed.

    Hi Everyone...

I've just now finished packing up my Avon order and now the cleanup.  Because of the shoulder surgery I had 18 months ago, I can't lift heavy things yet.  I used to do my Avon order down in the basement in the family room but now I choose to do it in the living room where I don't have the heavy boxes to carry.  Well, wouldn't you know it?  I have empty cartons and bags and products all over the living room when a knock at the door and a friend who I haven't seen for a long time dropped in!  LOL  I had to clear a spot for her to sit down!  Now that would have been a good time for a person to call first!

    Revelations/Prophesy
Now, I agree that it's a terrific thing to study Revelations.  I've so enjoyed  doing just this over the years both in my private and Bible School studies.  BUT and it's a very large BUT...we must remember that there are different interpretations in the evangelical world of just how these prophesies are to be interpreted and rather than cause problems with some on Christian Photographers that might not agree with how you or I are interpreting Daniel and Revelation and other prophetic books, we just don't get involved in the finer points of this wonderful subject.  Jack did NOT agree with Ruthie's father, for example,  in matters of prophesy BUT these two men had so many, many really good discussions together over the years and both are now in heaven worshipping the Lord together even though they differed completely as far as prophetic studes went.

    Santa Claus versus St. Nicholas
We really have to remember that while CP is an international site, there are various traditions in different countries.  St. Nicholas was a real man over in Europe many years ago and some countries still celebrate a day to remember him and the kindnesses he did as maybe the USA celebrates a day to remember some famous person in the USA or Canada likewise.  In North America, our mythical Santa Claus has taken over our Christmas Day celebrations I realize.  And that's so sad.    But I admit that last year I gave a neighbour a little gift and didn't want them to know it came from me so I signed the little card, "From Santa!!!" with some little smilies.   :-\    I grew up believing in Santa as a wee tot and my older brother had fun helping my father make a little highchair for my old dolly to be put under the tree.  Then my younger sister came along and I enjoyed helping my parents with this game of doing special things for my baby sister (JudyB).  My parents just didn't dwell on it over the years and I didn't have any time of disappointment when I "found out" but rather I then enjoyed helping with my young sister.

But this is just my opinion and everyone has a right to their opinions.

I guess I suffer sometimes through  thinking that some things should be easy to do,

Thanks Chris for that lovely hymn.  We can all learn from that that we are able to "Tell Jesus all of our troubles!"  Many of us (and me included) keep some things to ourselves and don't hand them over to Jesus to carry for us.

I hope that everyone clicks on your link, Chris and reads the words at the beginning of just how this hymn came about to be written by Mr. Hoffman.

Wise words about prophecy and Revelation, Pat.  This is one of the most widely interpreted subjects in the Bible, and we all tend to believe that "we" are right.  I don't shy away from expressing what I think is the best interpretation, but I fully understand and respect the fact that others interpret it differently.  Neither would I teach my interpretation as fact.

I also agree that we should be careful to respect others' traditions, but I do think it's fair to explain WHY I won't teach Travis that Santa lives at the North Pole :)  I plan to tell him the story of St. Nick, and wouldn't have a problem if someone dressed up like Santa and brought Travis presents.  I would simply make sure that he knew it was a guy in a funny suit that was doing some nice for him, rather than a everlasting creature who dwells way up North and rides a sleigh...  I think there is an appropriate balance.  We may include the IDEA of Santa in our Christmases, but I would never tell Travis a lie about who Santa "is" and what he does.

A holiday to pay honor to St. Nicholas does not have the same connotations as the American Santa at all, in my opinion.  It may be just as commercialized, but I don't want to belittle someone for that any more than I would belittle a holiday in honor of St. Columbus or George Washington.  They are all historical figures who deserve a portion of honor.

Hello, the Santa Claus/Father Christmas/St. Nicholas discussion is very interesting to me.  I grew up believing in Santa Claus, at least I think I did (I don't remember much of my childhood, due some "things"), and I don't remember being upset learning it wasn't real.  I did have a friend who was though.  Same with Easter Bunny and toothfairy.  I have heard stories of Father Christmas (who is different from Santa, in some ways), and I have heard the story of St. Nicholas, as well.  Even though we use the terms St. Nicholas and Santa Claus interchangebly, sometimes, they are not the same.  St. Nicholas existed -- Santa Claus did/does not.  The story of St. Nicholas is similar to the story of St. Valentine, the patriarch of Valentine's Day.  It seemed in Europe (at least Eastern Russia who celebrated Christmas sometime in January), St. Nicholas, the real man, was more prominent than Santa Claus.  They celebrated very much like Ria described.

Bernard celebrated a bit different.  He had "santa claus" (verb) but not a man by that name.  He knew that he would recieve presents on a certain night (thus the Santa Claus part) but they weren't delivered by a fat man in a red suit.

My brother in law, or dad used to dress up for my niece and oldest nephew and we would wake them up in the middle of the night and let them "see" Santa Claus delivering the toys.

My brother has a concept similar to Bernard's family.

Bernard and I just look forward to the presents and food!  ahahahhahahahahah

I do try to avoid any decorations, etc. with Santa or reindeer on them, preferring more "sacred" pictures, but sometimes it is impossible, it seems.

I don't know that any is right or wrong.  Sadly, each year, Santa becomes more important and Jesus less important (at least in the US).  For that reason, I am willing to totally abandon the whole jolly man in the red suit idea.

I remember (smiling here) one Christmas party at the police station for the children of the officers and Jack was chosen/ordered to dress like Santa and give out the gifts.  Well, his bulging stomach wouldn't stay where it was placed (Jack was sort of thin back then) and his "Ho Ho Ho" wasn't deep enough and one little boy started spreading around the tale, "Hey, that's not the real Santa!  He's nothing but a fake!"  We laughed at this so much over the years.

Exactly, Nards!  We all tend to think that the way we are interpreting prophetic scriptures and the whole study of eschatology is the right way and that's where it leads to problems when we say, "This is right!  You're wrong!"  I sure don't want that in here.  When Jack first came from Northern Ireland, he was a typical Ulsterman--a scrapper and he would have done just that!  He didn't agree with his own father on this subject but over the years, he mellowed and when asked what he believed regarding eschatology, he tended to try to change the subject if he didn't think that the discussion would end up being "friendly".

He loved to discuss with Uncle Bob though  Ruthie's father!  Both laughed a lot as they said to each other, "You're nuts!  That's not correct!" etc.  But never, never, never did they ever end up disliking each other or never did they get angry with each other due to the fact that they didn't agree.

I just know that both are together in glory having a wonderful time worshiping God.  And I'm sure they aren't discussing eschatology!

:-\ I did not know what is a Santa at all not long ago. But I did have many santas in my life along my way. They are to me the angels of Man.

To my family they are the ones that give of the heart and want for nothing back. I know many many Santas today.

In my Christian home we honor all that are good even if they are not a Christian. We party with others to bring joy to life for all. and then we pray for them and give of our heart with a dream that God will find us all together at His door one day.

For me each of you here have been my Santa. I love you all and I pray each day will be a celebration of life, of love, and of all that is good.

I have try so hard and so many times to make a most wonderful post to honor each of you as my dear friends. I sit and I have in my heart so many words to share with each of you, but only a tears come out. It is SO hard for me to say a good bye. I will take each of you with me and forever in my heart.

I hope you will forgive me that my heart is not so strong and my sadness it is only the wonderful pain of love for each of you my friends. I love you all.

    and I love you God.

I will try so hard to come back when I can do it, and I will miss you all for this time I am away. I thank you that you are all a Santa to me.

It is always so wonderful coming here...any time of day or night..to 'see' my family.  I cherish the warmth of love and friendship here.  What would I do without y'all?

MIEKA~We love you so much.  It is enough that you express your heart to us and we know of your love.  Just always remember that Jesus is with you wherever you go ... because He is IN you!  You can take our love with you in the same way...and we will be so happy to hear from you whenever and wherever you are!  Don't stress about anything, my friend, you will always be well cared for and I know Jesus loves you far more than even we do ... and that's a lot!  ::)

As for the discussion (or not) on prophesy/escatology... All any of it is is man's interpretation.  God purposely left it a mystery and I believe that if the enemy can get us to arguing and debating and furthering our own opinions he has succeeded in getting our focus off the Lord, our hope of glory!  I believe, also, there will be many surprises and surprised in heaven.  Lets just keep looking forward to that wonderful day when we will all be together around the throne of our King of Kings and Lord of Lords... all our "differences" will seem so immature and futile, in the Light of His Glory and Grace!

'Nuff said ... I love y'all so very much.  Take care wherever you are and whatever you are doing.  Until next time ...
    Love in Him

Think it's time to sing again?

Imagine with me back to the year 1746. A ship is docking on the coast of West Africa. Its purpose is to snatch unsuspecting people and sell them as slaves in the far off countries. The captain of this ship is known far and wide for his debauchery, vulgarity and blasphemy.

But one day in 1748, while reading the book "The Imitation of Christ" by Thomas a Kempis, our captain comes face to face with his sin and turns his life over to Jesus, the Savior of sinners.

Our captain is John Newton. After his conversion and dedication to Christ, he became a pastor and hymn writer.

His most famous of hymns, "Amazing Grace", is a testimonial of his conversion to Christ.

    AMAZING GRACE
    (Click title to hear music)

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
    I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
    And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
    The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
    I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
    His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
    As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
    And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
    The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
    Shall be forever mine.

When we've been there ten thousand years,
    Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
    Than when we'd first begun.

    Hi Nancy...

I'm sorry that you've missed some past posts from our dear sweet Mieka.

Mieka has been in the USA to further her education and her visa is now up and she must return to China.

She's leaving in the first week of November and we're all crying!

We love her so much but we all have hope that she will be back very soon.

    Right, Mieka?

Sonja ~ You don't know how happy I am after reading your message....I didn't see it this morning.  You must have posted while I was composing.  Maybe my little purpose in life was to encourage you to get the book...hmmmm!  I can't remember if it is in the book or on a video that I saw at the small group meeting, but Rick Warren says that our life on earth is preparing us for eternity in heaven.  If you took a tape measure and stretched it from New York City to Los Angeles. only a quarter of an inch would represent our life on earth.  The rest is eternity.  Well, when you think of it like that...why are we sweating the small stuff!!!  But doesn't it feel comforting to think that God created us to love us and for us to love him in return?  Last evening we all agreed...it is soooooo simple!!!!

Heather ~ It is Fully Rely On God!  I have a T-shirt with FROG on it.  Also a coffee cup.  Did have some stickers but used them all up!

JudyB ~ Didn't you say you were reading "The Purpose Driven Life"?  If not, do!!!

Well, I got engrossed in reading all the posts...I forgot to continue making notes.

I, for one, would love to have a Revelation Bible study.  I have read it several times and get a gist but a study would be very welcome.  And you people that have studied the Bible in seminary schools use BIG words that I can't even pronounce, let alone understand!

Mieka ~ I try not to think that you will be gone.  But bless your heart, you sure give this person a smiling heart when I think of you.  You are a blessing.

Okay...I have done 4 PSP lessons today.  Some by the instructions and some, I had to improvise to come up with the same results.  My neck and back are burning because of sitting here for so long!!  So..........GOODNIGHT ALL!  I am not going to get horizontal....just getting my feet up!

I have been reading over in SN. Lady Zinnia posted to me that the fire is expected to go through  Hesperia, and Apple Valley into Lucerne Valley and meet the other fire that has come over the mountain down Hwy. 18. I am so praying for all my friends there. I am so glad that I am not there. I had a email from the library where I used to work that even the library is filling with smoke and that they are expecting  the orders to close, I sure hope so.

It is cold here today and the wind is blowing from the north. Looks like I will have to put that extra blanket back on my bed that I took off last week because it was too warm. It sure is cold in my car with the window down and the plastic off. Gotta go put the plastic back up.

    HAPPY  BIRTHDAY  KATHY

Interesting talk about Revelation and agree it is much to controversial for a group discussion.  Spent years studying the subject when it was being taught in churches and still find it fascinating.

All this talk about Christmas!  I had a long look at it one year and wrote the following, then decided to also post it on the Condo Bulletin Board with my handpainted Card.  Make one every year....now get Amanda to do one ...

    CELEBRATION

How strange that people put on such a show
To celebrate the birth of someone they
       don't know.
The stores are gaily decked and manger scenes
Displayed, by folks who scoff at Christ...yet
       celebrate HIS day!
Does a potent, mystical power, permeate the
Christmas air; filling the hearts of mankind
with an urgent need to share?
Will God touch the world in this season
Of joyless mirth - that all might seek
the reason for this sacred birth.
    HE WALKS AMOUNG US STILL....

That is beautiful, Liz. You write beautiful words.  I would love to hear more of them.

Marilyn~cold?!  Girl you don't know what cold is till you visited Wyoming.  Want to trade homes?  hehehe ;D ;)

    Marilyn

Nope Sonja, don't like the  cold that comes from the snow.

About Daniel and Revelation, I have also done a lot of reading  on both those books and Both Daniel and Revelation several times, and heard a lot of lectures and sermons too. David Jeremiah has a great book called "The Handwriting on the Wall" a study of Daniel. Anne Graham Lotz (Billy Grahams Daughter) has one out on Revelation, But I can't remember  the title and the book is still packed. I would like to have a study on Revelation by Lee as we are like minded.

But to respect all our family here, I don't think it would be appropriate (spelling). So we will have to do our studies of Revelation  in the privacy of our homes or in our churches. It is a controversial subject here.

Last (and probably least) is my reaction to Santa, St. Nicholas.  I have felt very strongly that attributing the ability to know our hearts and lives to "Santa" is blasphemy against our Lord Jesus Christ.
However, that being said, I don't say much anymore about the tree, the songs, the commercialism, etc.  I try just not to be drawn into the discussion any more.  It seems better to me to love people and wait until they ask me.  If they do, then I'll simply point to Christ
Relative to the study of Revelation - I've written a book called "Comfort From Revelation," and it was sold for about 2 years through Christian Discount Book Service, which doesn't exist anymore, I think.  I'm very slowly rewriting the book, and maybe someday I'll have it available again.  It's a wonderful book in God's Word, and I personally believe that it is we ourselves who have made it difficult to understand with our preconceived notions about the meanings of "prophecy."  I am also aware of the major views on eschatology and how they differ.  I think the old arguement between a-millenial and pre-millenial will go on until our Lord returns.  It's really quite simple: I'm right, and everybody else is wrong! (hehe)

    The Book of Revelation..........

I'm not about to bring discomfort to this forum, and thus will not discuss Revelation unless asked.  I will say this though:  There was a time during the dark ages when man didn't dare discuss the Word of God.  If he did he'd be labled as a heritic and would lose his head.  The Book of Revelation was given to us by God to be read, studied, discussed and understood.  (And not to be shelved).  Anything less is to return to the dark ages.  Christians should be able to read chapter and verse and discuss them intellegently without taking offense toward one another, regardless of preconceived beliefs.  When reading a verse that may appear difficult, then a thorough search of all Scripture and all prophecies regarding the verse in question would in fact be revealed by God.  This is why we have His holy Word.  Why else do we have it?  Are we to say to God I don't understand you, so I'm not going to discuss it?  I disagree with this.  I have written several posts in this forum regarding "Christian love", and it is this love that is supposed to  seperate us from those who do not have it.  Argument?  Never.  Learning together, yes.   Mutual discussion, yes.

I guess we could discuss the resurrection of Christ and His ascending to heaven bodily.  Some might disagree.  Do we then not discuss it?  Ok my friends, I shall not bring this up again.  I promise.

Just checking in for a few minutes tonight.  There are fires in our state ,Colorado, also and our youngest son is staying at his in=laws in case they need to evacuate.  We can see the smoke from our house as there are four fires.  The good news is that the temperature dropped more than twenty degrees in the last few hours and there is a possibility of rain/snow coming.

We have made some committments to do some Good Works and feel pretty good about it.  I just hope that the load won't get to be too much.  I have been praying that we might be asked for something to fill our time and sure enough, the answer came. :)

Prayer answered this week is that our oldest son went to church after almost two years of being away.  He went to see our grandson sing - so happy for the news as it is the first step and now I am totally secure in feeling that this is a big turning point.  Our oldest son has always given money to the church but has not participated sometimes for work reason, etc. etc.  I just love these small miracles.

Oh, I am sad to hear that our charmer Mieka may be returning to China.  I had no idea that she was here on a VISA.

"discussing without dissagreement"...That's fine in a private home or your church, Judy but it's impossible in an internet setting.  Been there, done that!  And all we would need is for one of our many guests on here who maybe tends to being Pre-millenial Dispensational coming in and saying that what he or she is reading from someone like me who doesn't follow that to start an argument.  And unless I have it in my policy statement that this is or isn't a site for discussing eschatology, we don't have a leg to stand on.  To study eschatology without disagreement or with only love all of the members in the setting would have to be in agreement, right?  Well, there are at least three major divisions in Eschatology and many subdivisions and there's no way that everyone can agree and have no disagreement.

We have about 350 to 400 hits a day on our site of unique internet addresses and that's a lot for a site our size.  We only have 115 or so members so we have about 250 to 300 people viewing our site who aren't members.
They can all read our posts.

I have found, in my short time on earth, two kinds of people -- Peace makers, and Peace keepers.  Peace makers are the ones who don't mind a little controversy, but they have a tendancy to keep things stirred up, even after the time to let them die down has long passed.  Peace keepers keep the peace at whatever cost.  They don't want any controversy, and they are important because they are the ones who keep the makers rational, logical, and calm.

Is one more spirtual or a better Christian than the other.  Absolutely NOT.  It takes both, for without the other, nothing is ever corrected or solved.

As far as Revelation is concerned, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other.  That is not a statement of apathy, just a realistic look at life.  I have seen too many people hurt because people weren't mature about it.  On the other hand, I have seen fear taken away because it was studied (that was me).    If we were to discuss Revelation because someone had questions about it, that would be one thing.  Even then though, I think it would be necessary to make everyone begin their post with "Of course, I think I'm right."  or they would have to sign a waiver agreeing to be detatched from the conversation and take nothing personally.  hahahah

If it is discussion just to discuss, or to persuade others to your view, I am reminded of what Paul told Timothy (I think), though I can't find the scripture right now, I will get it later.  -- (Rough paraphrase)  If two brothers disagree on something regarding "Christianity" (or faith or doctrine), and neither will change their mind, do not even discuss it."

I, for one, though I am all about learning new things, and deepening my understanding, can join in a debate at almost any church I choose to go to.  Whether I want to or not.  :'(  (Is that a sad commentary about our local churches or what/?)

So, continue on, I have a song to post for Mieka, but I gotta find it first.

    Ruthie

Hi Sonja.......  I read what you said that God cannot lie.     That is so true.    Sometimes I will tell a new Christian or a Christian who needs assurance that there is something that I can do that God cannot do!   They will look at me and try to think about what God cannot do that I can do.    Then I will say " I can tell lies, but God cannot lie, and when He says in His word that you have eternal life if you have trusted in Christ and received Him as your Saviour and Lord,  then He means it and His word is true, and you have to believe that you are His child forever!"

The same goes for the older Christian who has to trust and rely on God's Word and believe every word of it.    God's promises are trustworthy.  Praise God.

    God bless
