Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace,
with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

2 Tim. 2:22

The Christian life is full both of fleeing and following. Here we are told
to flee youthful desires or passions, and to choose our companions
carefully.

It is important to know what to avoid, but in addition we need to fill our lives with that which edifies. Our close friends and ompanions
should be deliberately chosen using the criteria of this verse.

Men like Timothy and Titus were blessed to have older men like Paul as their companions, and what an influence the Apostle had in their lives!

May we actively seek and cultivate friendship and companionship with those who walk with the Lord.
--Carl Knott

This life is like a garden place;
our friendships are the flowers,
The perfumes of the blossoms fair
are friendship's pleasant hours.
Halladay

Morning Pat.

Morning Sarah.

Hope this finds everyone having a blessed day. Things have been busy with Michael, my parents and work. Now they are going to get busier in the next week in that we have to pack everything we may need for the trip to Disney World. Michael is so excited and so are we. Looking at the itinerary I know I won't be getting much sleep. It's gonna be fun.

Anyways, everyone have a great day in the Lord.   :coffee:

Every Blessing to You!

Hi everyone.  Have a few minutes before I leave for the day.  First I will go to coffee at the Cafe and then at 9:30 this morning we have Bible study at the church.  Pat will be staying at the church this afternoon as they are doing crafts.

We have had rain all night and it is still raining.  I am sure it is needed and it has come down very nicely as it isn't just poring.

Till later.

rob

Good morning, Pat, thanks for the devotional this morning.

Hi Sarah, looks like your day is full with work and school. Study hard !

Hello Jeannine, nice to see your post this morning. Hope God continues to bless you and your family.

Hi Larry, sounds as if you have your day planned out. Have a great day !

God Bless everyone !
God Bless, Rob

Pat

Good Morning everyone!

It's raining here too, Larry.  It's been raining all day yesterday and it looks as if it will be today as well.

I'm considering going to London, Ontario tomorrow evening for the London Camera Club meeting as there are special speakers there who are going to be showing photos of Namibia and South Africa.  We'll see how the weather is for driving.  I just wish that there was a Camera Club in our area.

Marilyn ~ The Message is one version of the Bible that I don't have.  Jerry gave me the New Testament of The Message on CD's, tho.  I also have 'The Book of God-The Bible as a Novel' by Walter Wangerin, Jr.  I read it once but that was before I accepted Christ.

Chris ~ Are you coming to Indiana?  Thanks, Chris, for the explanation of the Books, chapters and verses.  I guess I wouldn't question it if we still had other books with the same divisions.  The Bible is the only book I know that has divisions of verses.

Janet ~ I hadn't heard about the US Embassy in Damascus,

Syria, being attacked by terrorists.  I went to be at 11 before the news.

Kevin ~ Yes, definitely The Message would be just for reading...not a Bible study...if it is without chapters and verses.  I guess when I was in school, I really studied English and I get hung up in the structure of sentences and words.  You can't tell that by the way I structure sentences today...ending some with prepositions.  But I certainly understand what I read better if it is how I speak.  I know the Bible is translations but I can't read Hebrew or Greek so I have to have faith that God knows what is in my heart.  I may just go to the Bible Book store today to see what they have in The Message.

Jane ~ Hello!  Thanks for your input about Eugene Peterson.  I agree....any writing to get people to read the Bible is what counts.

Pat ~ My church reads verses in unison lots of times.  The words are on the overhead so everyone has the same version to read...NIV.  The overhead is great for uniformity...technology in motion.  I get a kick out of the minister saying to open your Bible and the room is dark..can't read the Bible is the dark.

Larry ~ I am glad that you are getting new Bibles for you and Pat.  A worn Bible shows a used Bible.  Mine is getting dog-eared and dark on the edges.  A good sign, I think.  I am using the Bible I gave Jerry...large print Contemporary English Version.  Much easier to see.  And I think of Jerry when I first open it.

Sarah ~ You are so busy....must be what keeps you young!!

Jeannine ~ Oh, wow!  Disney World....how exciting!!  I know Michael is anxious to see Mickey!

Rob ~ Glad to see you up and about this morning.

Please don't get me wrong about versions of the Bible.  But I feel if you find a version that you will read and understand is better than reading a version that you don't understand.  I know, for me, if I had to take my dictionary to church to look up the words that the minister says, I probably wouldn't go back.  But when the minister presents his sermon and I get the message that is what counts.  Same with Bible versions....my honest opinion.

Red Hats Society today...leaving in a few minutes.

Thanks Etta Sue.  Nice to know your church reads in unison.

There was something majestic though to have our pastor say to open our Bibles at a specific place as yours does and then to glance around at the hundreds of folks helping others find the spot, elderly helping young children and then having everyone getting ready to read from their worn Bibles and then proceed to read God's Holy Word together.

I miss that.

Also, about versions, I don't mind other versions as long as they haven't been corrupted by omissions and additions.  I use several versions in my daily study.  But if a version, for instance, says something like "young girl" instead of "virgin", that's just not right.  Our Lord and Saviour was born of a virgin and that must not be changed to "young girl".  It doesn't mean anything the same.

Well, I have minutes to do for the Guelph Hiking Trail Club and minutes to do for our local Neighbourhood Group and a few errands so I better get a move on here.

I've just been enjoying the photos in our "Photos Here" board of small churches and of Kevin's river in Japan.

Good morning to all.

Know that I am here, but the quiet side of me has taken over for a while.

Don't know why and I dont try to figure it out--"go with the flow"--until Our Heavenly Father reveals to me why I am having a quiet time.

I just wanted to post one of my favorites:

"I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).

I find this very comforting.

I have posted in "manna for the soul" the full source of my comfort with this verse.

Please take care and as always,

Love in Christ,

Joyce

Hi Joyce...

Here's a hug  :grouphug: for you.  Will be thinking of you during your quiet time.   <3

Wednesday already!!  My, time just flies by, faster and faster!  Can the coming of our Lord be far away?  I think not.

Busy day again, workout, some Reliv calls, GEM luncheon with the ladies from church, now I must go make a salad for a salad supper tomorrow night.  Any of you ever eaten tomato soup salad?  That's what I am making, it is really different.

I just got a nice email from my youngest daughter, who doesn't correspond very often at all, so my day is blessed.  Thank you, Lord.

Nice photos of all the little and not-so-little churches.  I love photos of churches, and try to snap them when I have the opportunity.

I need to be about getting more things done.  I wish I could get me more organized!! :-\

I am back from Red Hat Society luncheon with 5 other ladies.  It was my time to choose where to go so I chose Greenfield at The Bread Ladies.  Five of us had the Seasonal Special of Brocholi and Cheese Soup, Chicken Salad, Assorted Fruits and homemade bread.  One lady had a Ham with Grilled Pineapple sandwich and chips.  Very good.

Then we went to the HallMark store.  It is huge in Greenfield.  I bought a little over the shoulder bag.  Small so it will only hold a credit card, driver's license, keys, bills and change but on the outside it holds your cell phone.  Will be nice when taking Nancy and Walter to Bloomington and Grand Rapids...or when carrying around my camera!

Then we went to the Good Will Store...new in Greenfield.  I bought 4 paper back books for $2.04!  Senior citizen day with 20% off!!

And I went to the Bible Book store and bought me a Psalms, Proverbs and New Testament in The Message version.  It breaks it down as books and chapters but the verses aren't marked.  On the corner of the pages it breaks them down like left side Mark 5:20, right side Mark 6:28.  And Pat, it says that a virgin will get pregnant and bear a son; his name will be Emmanuel.  I know I will enjoy reading it and it is small enough to carry in my purse.

I will be back later.

It is good to wake up to a chill in the air!  Fall is here!

Etta Sue...glad you found the message.  I first read it in paperback, and it was just the NT.

By the way, the Isaiah prophecy regarding the virgin birth is safe, too.  <3

Isaiah 7:14

So the Master is going to give you a sign anyway. Watch for this: A girl who is presently a virgin will get pregnant. She'll bear a son and name him Immanuel (God-With-Us).

Hello everyone. Good discussions here today.

I have been busy, Took the dogs for walks and with Bebe I fell into some rocks, A dog jumped at us,(he was on a chain), made Bebe mad a she jerked the leash and made me fall. I had her leash tightened up with her in the heel position. A lady wanted to help me up but I told her not to with Bebe in the state she was in.

I have been  to the hospital again to see about my client Ruth. I have found another caregiver to stay with her at night. There is nothing wrong but she keeps going to the hospital for no reason, well for attention from her family. She called me at midnight last night and again at 7 am then again after  I left for Tai Chi and there were three messages on my machine in the hour I was gone. The lifeline also called me and her DIL from over 3 hours away. I finally found her at the hospital.

Well, here's one more opinion on versions, including the Message.  There have been many paraphrases over the years (Berkeley Version, Living Letters, etc.)  They definitely have a place in helping us understand God's Word.  However, they are, after all, paraphrases, not careful translations.  The difference is very great.  A careful translation, if it is a good one, has been done by a fairly large commitee of scholars, each of whom checks the work of the other.  Each passage is carefully done, then compared to other's work, then revised until a very heavy majority is satisfied.  It isn't the work of only one man, unchecked by others.

When I attended seminary, one of my professors was a member of the New Testament committee working on the New International Version.  We discussed it in some depth in class (Greek class and others), and several of us disagreed with the philosophy of translation being used.  Theirs was not a word-for-word translation, but was a paragraph-for-paragraph work, thus lending itself to interpretation of the meaning rather than simple translation of the original language into English.

All true believers agree that the Bible, in the original production (the authographa) is inerrant and divinely inspired.  My position is that underlying documentation should as closely as possible represent that autographa.  The byzantine text, representing the Eastern Church, with vast numbers of texts from as early as the second century, is represented in an entire New Testament in Syriac, which can then be translated into Greek and compared with existing Greek documents.  Addditionally, two entire NT texts are available from about the fifth century, one from the monastery at Mt. Sinai and one from the Vatican at Rome.  These also aid in comparison.  The Byzantine text, though, it seems to me, is superior, and parts of it go back to disciples of John.  For this reason, the New King James Version, taken largely from the Eastern texts, seem to me to be more lilkely to be accurate.

Other versions are quite readable, it's true, but for accuracy, I feel that I can depend upon the NKJV.

All this having been said, though, I recommend using whatever version you have, because all of them will tell you of you need and your need met in Christ.

Again, all this having been said, I feel that the Message should indeed be a help in your library if possible.

Thanks Pastor Al for your in depth explanation.  I have found all of this most interesting.  Find the NKJV and NIV are my personal choice, tho' agree that other versions are most useful and think they are necessary.

Will probably get thumped on the head as it is late now, so will make this very short.  Not much to say anyway....No rain, we are still hoping that a good rain will come in short order.  Sprinkled a tiny bit tonight....not enough to even get the cat's fur more than damp :(

Glad that we are able to have these interesting discussions with everyone understanding the other person's point of view.  Not like the Secular world where it is dangerous to have an opinion these days.....

Pleasant Evening/Day and God Bless.
