JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Jesus' First Disciples
John 1:35-51  NLT

   The following day, John was again standing with two of his disciples. As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and then declared, "Look! There is the Lamb of God!" Then John's two disciples turned and followed Jesus.

    Jesus looked around and saw them following. "What do you want?" he asked them.

   They replied, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"

    "Come and see," he said. It was about four o'clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place, and they stayed there the rest of the day.

    Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of these men who had heard what John said and then followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother, Simon, and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means the Christ).

    Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, "You are Simon, the son of John--but you will be called Cephas" (which means Peter).

    The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Come, be my disciple." Philip was from Bethsaida, Andrew and Peter's hometown.

    Philip went off to look for Nathanael and told him, "We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth."

    "Nazareth!" exclaimed Nathanael. "Can anything good come from there?"

   "Just come and see for yourself," Philip said.

    As they approached, Jesus said, "Here comes an honest man--a true son of Israel."

    "How do you know about me?" Nathanael asked.

   And Jesus replied, "I could see you under the fig tree before Philip found you."

    Nathanael replied, "Teacher, you are the Son of God--the King of Israel!"

    Jesus asked him, "Do you believe all this just because I told you I had seen you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this." Then he said, "The truth is, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down upon the Son of Man."
How would someone know that you're a disciple of Jesus?

   These new disciples used several names for Jesus:  Lamb of God, Messiah, Son of God, and King of Israel.  As they got to know Jesus, their appreciation for him grew.

   The more time we spend getting to know Christ, the more we will understand and appreciate who he is.  We may be drawn to him for his teaching, but we will come to know him as the Son of God.

   Although these disciples made this verbal shift in a few days, they would not fully understand Jesus until three years later (Acts 2).  What they so easily professed had to be worked out in experience.

    We may find that words of faith come easily, but deep appreciation for Christ comes with living by faith.

Etta Sue, I was just sitting here not one hour ago reading one of Phillip Keller's books!  He was a friend of my cousin who lives in Alberta.  What a wonderful man he was and he sure knew all about sheep and dogs.

The book I was reading is entitled, "Songs of My Soul".

WELCOME LOREN!!

We're so glad to see you!

I found out this evening that Kitty's husband, Bob, has had a stroke.  She called me this morning and cancelled out for the movie.  Bob has been down since Saturday evening and Bob is normally a very active...almost hyper person.  No energy, no appetite and a extremely painful headache.  He told her last evening that if he wasn't better today, he would go to the emergency room.  He did go to the doctor Tuesday and was told he had a sinus infection but Kitty thought it was worse than that.  I explained to her that if Bob wouldn't go to the ER on his own, to call 911.  He was having some memory loss also.  I tried to call a little after 3 and there was no answer.  Then this evening around 8 p.m. their daughter called me from Methodist where Jerry was with both of his strokes.  Bob is to have another CAT scan tomorrow and from that they will determine what they will do.  So keep my friends, Bob and Kitty and their family in your prayers.

Ivalou invited me over for pizza tonight but her A/C isn't working right.  So I told her to bring it over here and we would have a pizza party here.  She did and we did!!  So much better enjoying it with someone else.

I mowed today so now I am done until after the weekend.

I will be going with Judy to her doctor appointment in the morning but Bernice's doctor called and cancelled for tomorrow but I will take her to her appointment Friday at noon.

Marilyn ~ I got my PSP X today.  Really a great program for photos.  Seems to be geared more for photo fixing than creating graphics.

Pat ~ I really don't know Phillip Keller.  I go to a website that has Daily Christian Quotes for my quotes.  I try to find one that kind of fits the devotion.

Happy Birthday, Etta Sue!

I hope your day will be one to make you feel as special and as loved as you are.  I know I love to read your posts and see what you're up to.  I like seeing what new graphic you will bring.   You are such a major part of CP and so appreciated.

Welcome Loren.  Always nice to see new people come in. :D

I had a nice day.  I went to a prayer meeting and that started my day right.  Later I bathed Rocko, did some weedeating, etc.  Not a busy day, but it felt like I got things done.

Al, my daughter said the same thing to me today.  She'd heard we were supposed to have a long hard winter.  Hmmmm.  And then
Eddie, you said:

We have one maply tree in the neighborhood that turns a pretty red well before any others even start to turn.  It hasn't turned yet.  But when it does it is an early warning signal that winters on its' way.

And that brings me back to what Al said, because I have a Maple too, and it is deep red and burgandy now.  If I look at that, I guess it's saying that winter is on the way.  I'm hoping Fall takes its leisurely time in making its yearly departure.

It seems strange with my grandson gone.  Less work, but somehow there's an empty spot.  I know I'll get used to it soon.  He's coming back Friday to get more of his things, so I'll see him then.

I watched a thing on TBN of all the things Samaritan's Purse is doing in the areas Katrina hit.  Did anyone else see that?  The church has really become the hands of Jesus.  I've heard that Oregon will get 1000 evacuees.  They'll come to Portland, and then different churches, families, and charity organizations will provide until they are able to take care of themselves.  I haven't heard if any families will be coming to my area.

Larry, I pray you are rested and feeling better when you wake up in the morning.

blessings, nita

Good Morning. Thank you Etta Sue for the devotional today. And Happy Birthday to you.

I will be  working all three jobs today and trying to get more stuff packed over the next week. I have put things off as I was not sure when I would be moving. Last night I asked the Pastor if I could get some help  loading and unloading  a Uhaul, He announced at Bible Study but no one responded at least not yet. But the Pastor said he and the speaker for the revival next week would help me. With Sarah working and going to school it is hard for Gilbert to do much of anything away from home. Their weekends are pretty busy too So I didn't want to bother them by asking for their help.

What has happened to Chris and Margit? They haven't been here for  quite some time.

my daughter said the same thing to me today.  She'd heard we were supposed to have a long hard winter.  Hmmmm.  And then

The indian tribe's old chief passed on.  The young chief was appointed.  The tribal council sought his advice on the coming winter. Realizing that he was young and had not attained much wisdom, he felt better to error by giving safe advice.  Better safe than sorry.

He said, "Go and gather wood.  It will be a tough winter."

Not too sure of his advice, he called the Weather Bureau and asked if they had any information on the winter coming.  He was told that it was going to be a bad winter.

He went back to his Tribal Council and said, "Go and gather more wood.  it is to be a harder winter than expected."

A week later he called the Bureau again and asked if they had an update on the winter weather.  They said that the winter would be worse than expected.

Again he told the Council, "Go and gather more wood.  Gather every branch, log and stick, even if it is not yet dried out.  It is to be a severe winter."

Still unsure of himself, he called the Weather Bureau once again.  He was told it was to be the worst winter since they began tracking winters in 1850.  Still not sure he asked, "How do you know it will be such a bad severe winter?"

"Oh, said the weather prognosticater, we know because the indians are gathering wood like mad."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY< ETTA SUE  !!!  From NC :)

I've decided that my little donation will go to Samaritan's Purse.  Of course, I'm biased because they are considered a local ministry (based about 2 hours from here).  They do some awesome things all over.

Going to play with my kiddies now!  :)

Glory to His Name
(Click to hear music)

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His Name.
Psalm 29:2

Words: Elisha A. Hoffman, in Joy to the World, by Tullius O?Kane, C. C. McCabe, and John Sweney (Cincinnati, Ohio: Hitchcock & Walden, 1878).

Music: John H. Stockton

Down at the cross where my Savior died,
Down where for cleansing from sin I cried,
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to His Name!

Refrain
Glory to His Name,
glory to His Name:
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to His Name!

I am so wondrously saved from sin,
Jesus so sweetly abides within;
There at the cross where He took me in;
Glory to His Name!

Refrain

Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin,
I am so glad I have entered in;
There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean;
Glory to His Name!

Refrain

Come to this fountain so rich and sweet,
Cast thy poor soul at the Savior's feet;
Plunge in today, and be made complete;
Glory to His Name!

Refrain

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ETTA SUE!

Thanks for the nice devotional.  I guess we all agree that your graphics and posts do lots to brighten the days.  Hope this is a special one for you.

Good joke, Eddie.  Heard it before, but some things are worth smiling at twice.  Think all our native folks watch the weather channel.  No help at all, it is usually wrong!

Sunny day here and I am going to walk to the mall and mail a letter to my sister in Australia.  Ralph's mom was rushed to the hospital last night.  No news yet.  Not certain that much can be done for her type of liver cancer.  The kids are pretty upset.

Poor Amanda keeps getting called to work, then not getting her hours.  Has prospects of another, better part time job....so will pray that happens.  So much confusion these days.  No one wants to pay benefits, so they make things very hard for kids to get a start.  Sure that college next fall will be a wonderful relief for everyone....Was called in to college to try and get in on a course and they took her 150.00 registration fee, then said no openings...for either her or her girlfriend.  Will have to pay the fee again to register for the same course.....some kind of scam these days!

Canada has sent three ships, plus 1000 special forces to dive and rescue and help.  Many small groups have gone on their own....nurses, doctors, etc.  $300 Million offered in supplies and aid.  The suffering must be beyond description.  Agree, Samaritan's Purse is a great group and we in Canada support that thro' the churches.  If all the countries help, things will get better.

TBear, that is a great idea and I hope you will continue on a regular basis.

Larry, hope that things are better for you and Pat.  Take care and get lots of rest.

Hi Jane.  Don't be sad about your grandchildren.  Amanda and I only exchange the odd sentence in passing.  Kids are busy with their own thoughts and lives.  Get lots of wood for winter.  That bit about the maple trees is probably better than the weather guy.

Small Smile, no damage intended:

The Baptist Dog

A Baptist couple decide that they want to get a dog. As they are walking down the street in town, they notice that a sign in the pet shop is advertising "Christian Puppies." Their interest piqued, they go inside.

"How do you know they're Christian puppies?"

"Watch," says the owner, as he takes one of the dogs and says, "Fetch the  Bible." The dog runs over to the desk, and grabs the Bible in its mouth

and returns. Putting the Bible on the floor, the owner says, "Find Psalm

23."  The dog flips pages with its paw until he reaches the right page, and then stops.  Amazed and delighted, the couple purchase the dog and head home.

That evening, they invite some friends over and show them the dog, having him run through his Psalm 23 routine.  Impressed, one of the visitors asks "Does he also know 'regular' commands?"

"Gee, we don't know. We didn't ask," replies the husband.

Turning to the dog, he says, "Sit."  The dog sits.  He says, "Lie down."

The dog lies down. He says "Roll over."  The dog rolls over.

He says "Heel."  The dog runs over to him, jumps up on the sofa, puts both paws on the owner's forehead and bows his head.

"Oh look!" the wife exclaims. "He's Pentecostal!"

               ;D ;D ;D

Off for my walk now.  Pleasant day all and God Bless.

Liz, I love it, too!  LOL.  As you said, well worth a second smile.

Busy, busy, busy.  The guys have the bathroom at Beth's gutted---what a horrible mess.  UGH.

I'm working on getting stuff ready to take to Pat's for the sale.  Too much junk, er, good stuff!  ;D  I hope not to bring ANY of it back here on Saturday!

I am going to see Abby and go to Women's Aglow tonight.  My friend, Dr. Sue, with whom I went to ?Romania on the missions trip, will be there tonight.  Yippee!!  Can't wait to see her!

Well, I gotta get back to it!

Thank you, Pat, Nita, Marilyn, Karen, Karma, Al, JudyB, Liz and Ruth, for the birthday wishes.  You sure know how to make a gal feel special on her special day.

No, no birthday cake but Judy and I did go for breakfast at Bob Evan's and she told them it was my birthday.  They give a free dessert for the birthday person.  So Judy and I shared a piece of Peanut Butter and Chocolate Ice Cream Pie.  I felt like I should go to church and confess, it was so sinfully delicious!!

And you might say that my birthday gift to me is Paint Shop Pro X.  I got it yesterday.  I love, love, love it!  Mostly geared for photos.  I put a couple of photos in the gallery.  You can check them out
here.

Pat, I didn't find the URL at the bottom of the photo in the File information area, so I used the URL in my browser. It is working for me.

Hi Etta Sue...

At the top left of the photos in the gallery, you'll see a little blue icon with an "i" on it standing for "Information".

If you click on that, you'll see the URL at the bottom.

Try it!

Did you remember to look for Mars on August 27th.  That was supposed to be the prime viewing day for the month of August.  It was to be as large as our moon and red....

I didn't know that this was THE date so I looked earlier in the month and didn't see anything.  Then I was told Aug 27th was the best date for viewing & that the next time that Mars would be this visible would not be till 62,000 years later.

Today something triggered my memory and reminded me that I forgot to look on Aug 27th. What a shame that I missed it...but wait...isn't eternity forever ?   Sure twill be able to see it from there AND all the other planets too.

Hi Eddie...

You didn't miss anything.  Apparently that email was sent out in error.

Here's what was posted by "Tangran" on Photography Cafe about this:

Quote

http://www.kidscosmos.org/kid-stuff/mars-oppositions.html  explains it nicely :)

Mars oppositions happen about every 26 months, so after Aug 2003 (the nearest for 60,000 years), the next one is 30 October 2005. Mars to Earth distance = 69.423 million km, apparent diameter = 20.19". The one in 2003 was 55.758 million km and 25.13" diameter and so was 1/4 bigger then as it will be in October.

Hope that was of some use to somebody :)
