JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Jesus and a Blind Man
John 9:1-41  NLT

As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. "Teacher," his disciples asked him, "why was this man born blind? Was it a result of his own sins or those of his parents?"

"It was not because of his sins or his parents' sins," Jesus answered. "He was born blind so the power of God could be seen in him. All of us must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent me, because there is little time left before the night falls and all work comes to an end. But while I am still here in the world, I am the light of the world."

Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and smoothed the mud over the blind man's eyes. He told him, "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam" (Siloam means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came back seeing!

His neighbors and others who knew him as a blind beggar asked each other, "Is this the same man--that beggar?" Some said he was, and others said, "No, but he surely looks like him!"

And the beggar kept saying, "I am the same man!"

They asked, "Who healed you? What happened?"

He told them, "The man they call Jesus made mud and smoothed it over my eyes and told me, `Go to the pool of Siloam and wash off the mud.' I went and washed, and now I can see!"

"Where is he now?" they asked.

   "I don't know," he replied.

Then they took the man to the Pharisees. Now as it happened, Jesus had healed the man on a Sabbath. The Pharisees asked the man all about it. So he told them, "He smoothed the mud over my eyes, and when it was washed away, I could see!"

Some of the Pharisees said, "This man Jesus is not from God, for he is working on the Sabbath." Others said, "But how could an ordinary sinner do such miraculous signs?" So there was a deep division of opinion among them.

Then the Pharisees once again questioned the man who had been blind and demanded, "This man who opened your eyes--who do you say he is?"

The man replied, "I think he must be a prophet."

The Jewish leaders wouldn't believe he had been blind, so they called in his parents. They asked them, "Is this your son? Was he born blind? If so, how can he see?"

His parents replied, "We know this is our son and that he was born blind, but we don't know how he can see or who healed him. He is old enough to speak for himself. Ask him." They said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who had announced that anyone saying Jesus was the Messiah would be expelled from the synagogue. That's why they said, "He is old enough to speak for himself. Ask him."

So for the second time they called in the man who had been blind and told him, "Give glory to God by telling the truth, because we know Jesus is a sinner."

"I don't know whether he is a sinner," the man replied. "But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!"

"But what did he do?" they asked. "How did he heal you?"

"Look!" the man exclaimed. "I told you once. Didn't you listen? Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples, too?"

Then they cursed him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. We know God spoke to Moses, but as for this man, we don't know anything about him."

"Why, that's very strange!" the man replied. "He healed my eyes, and yet you don't know anything about him! Well, God doesn't listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will. Never since the world began has anyone been able to open the eyes of someone born blind. If this man were not from God, he couldn't do it."

"You were born in sin!" they answered. "Are you trying to teach us?" And they threw him out of the synagogue.

When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"

The man answered, "Who is he, sir, because I would like to."

"You have seen him," Jesus said, "and he is speaking to you!"

"Yes, Lord," the man said, "I believe!" And he worshiped Jesus.

Then Jesus told him, "I have come to judge the world. I have come to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind."

The Pharisees who were standing there heard him and asked, "Are you saying we are blind?"

"If you were blind, you wouldn't be guilty," Jesus replied. "But you remain guilty because you claim you can see.

What different stages of "seeing" have been part of your life?

The longer this man experienced his new life through Christ, the more confident he became in the one who had healed him.  He gained not only physical signt but also spiritual sight as he recognized Jesus first as a prophet, then as his Lord.

When you turn to Christ, you begin to see him differently.  The longer you walk with him, the better you will understand who he is.  If you want to know more about Jesus, keep walking with him.

Whew!  That's a long devotion but I just couldn't find any of it to cut out.  All of it was needed for the reply at the end.  The Pharisees were so blind they couldn't see Christ as the Messiah.  And I kind of like it when the blind man gets testy with the Pharises.   ;)

And did you notice I took out the verse numbers?  Do you like reading this devotion without the verse numbers or do you want me to keep them in?

Al ~ Thank you for your knowledge about the translations of the Bible.  If I were in seminary school, I know I would use KJV or NKJV but I am not.  So I like the NIV, CEV, NLT versions.  And now I have The Message to help me understand the Bible better so I can walk with Christ.

I am off to bed.  I have to take my car to be maintenanced tomorrow morning.

Just stopping in to say hi.  I have a cold starting and have taken some natural cold capsules.  Bruce has brought home a honey/lemon tea from Tim Horton's so will take it upstairs to enjoy before drifting off to sleep and hopefully can get this cold tossed out of my body before it really grabs hold.

Night everyone

ps....looks like a tie in the challenge...has everyone voted?

Hey there all y'all ... It's still Wednesday here but I'll greet y'all with a big G'Morning anyway....

I have been receiving updates on my expanding family and thought I'd share the excitement with you.

First of all, Dave, my #2 grandson has another son: 3 week old Joshua Alan; next Tim (#1 grandson, and Dave's older brother) and his wife are expecting their third son in December; after that, I have just learned, Tricia (their sister and Jean's oldest daughter) is expecting a boy in January.  That will bring the total of my great grands to 11 and then add in Dave's stepson and it comes to an even dozen!  How's that for a growing legacy?

By the way I have a new picture of Tricia and Makayla in the gallery.  (I copped it off of her blog at myspace. )
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Hi Etta Sue,

I'm glad you didn't cut a thing. That is a great piece of scripture. Thanks !

I, as most, have walked "blind" many times in my life.  I think it's part of being human..... Each day I ask God to give me a Clean Mind, Respectful Tongue and a Pure Heart.

Open our eyes, Dear Lord, to Your Ways !

God Bless, Rob

Marilyn

Thanks Etta Sue for the wonderful devotion today.

I am having some car problems that I hope will hold off until tomorrows service appointment. I think it is not getting enough fuel as it  dies then after a few false starts it runs fine. I have to take Jan's cat to the vet this morning and so it is so important that it keeps running for today. Please pray for my car.

Thanks, Etta Sue,  Great devotional.

I agree with the others, I am glad that you did not cut anything out.

Wouldn't have been the same ending if you did.

Just like us, sidetracking/ cutting out what the Bible says to fit our  own needs and concerns  just doesn't "cut it" with the Lords way

Following HIM each and every day; refreshing our walk and talk with Jesus is the only way to grow in our faith.

No matter what the trials, He IS always there for us.

I am always amused when people say if only I could see a sign from GOD ; I would understand better.

Well, IMO, we do have a sign--24 hrs . a day , every day, if we only would realize that HIS helper, the Holy Spirit, is there giving us advice, help, comfort--that's the sign.

Now we just have to be quiet and listen and obey.

Take care and as always,

Love in Christ,

Joyce

Hi everyone.  Am sitting here this morning at my computer enjoying piano music by Anthony Burger and now the Gaither Vocal Band.  I have been enjoying the Gaither Vocal Band programs on TNB.  The last one I saw featured Jeff and Sheri Easter.

Today I will start back at Calvin Cove with playing and singing with the adult daycare folks.  I took the month of August off and it was a blessing to not have that responsibility and then had planned to go back last week but had to cancel at the last minute due to an unexpected event that required our attention.

Etta Sue, I agree you were wise not to cut anything out.  I actually didn't notice the missing verse numbers as guess I got caught up with the text.

I have enjoyed the discussion of various Bible translations.  Yesterday at our Bible study with our pastor we had a discussion about translations and using various Bibles.  It very much followed the discussion here and he felt we should use the translations or versions, including the Message Bible, that help us understand the Bible.  Last evening in the Bible study conducted by our Associate Pastor where we are studying the Book of James, the matter of translation between Greek and English became apparent and how the meaning of the English as we now understand it can really be a bit different than when you focus on the Greek.  Of course, most of us will never study Greek.

Joyce, I wonder why people think they need signs from God when we live all the evidences of God through the beauty of nature and in the lives of Christians who radiate their faith to others.  The truth of the matter is that such folks wouldn't recognize a sign God provides if it stared them in the face.

Marilyn, perhaps you just have a clogged fuel filter or something minor.  Hope you don't have to have any major repair work as it is so expensive.  It seems you have had good service from your car as I remember when you got it.

Jane, what a blessing you have to have so many grandchildren.  We have only one grandchild with no prospects of anymore.  We do have three great grandchildren but they live so far away we will never get to know them very well I fear.

Guess I had better move on as it will soon be time to head for the church.
This evening we are going to an 80th Birthday Party for one of our good friends from Church.  We are going to Red Lobster and I am looking forward to it.

Etta Sue

Thanks for the comments on the devotion.

I am really enjoying reading The Message.  I took it with me to read at the car place this morning.  It is small...3.75" x 5.25" x .62"...nice size to carry in your purse.

Earlier I didn't have internet.  Then I got my car maintenanced.  When I got home I tried to call my sister and it wouldn't ring.  I walked over there and she said her phone just dinged but she could call out.  I had my cell phone and called my house and it rang in fine.  So she called the phone company.  They thought my problem was with DSL so connected me with them.  I wasn't home so told them to call me back in a few minutes.  Now my DSL is fine.  I called my sister and left a message on her answering machine...she had to leave.  So I don't know what was going on!!  Spooks with the phone lines.

Hi everyone...

Just nipping in here as I am between appointments and I am off to London, Ontario later and won't be back till really late.

Enjoyed your devotion, Etta Sue.  I enjoy seeing the verse numbers. ;)

Have another appointment in about 27 minutes so I must go and then get the car filled up with gas and then set off for London.  I'm looking forward to seeing photos tonight of South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.

If I'm home too late to do the NEM for tomorrow, we'll just add tomorrow's date to Etta Sue's.

It is nice to check in and find so many posts already today, with lively discussion going.  Etta Sue, I liked that you left out the verse numbers, seems to flow better that way.  As long as things are not taken out of context, it is great.  I believe the verse numbers are only there to enable us to find things easier.  It would really be difficult to find a certain passage if not for chapter and verse divisions, even though sometimes it seems the verse divisions are in awkward places.

Larry, wish I could come and hear you play, and sing along with you.  I sang in a concert this morning.....I was taking Beth's dog, Mieka, to visit her, and was singing along with the radio, and Mieka joined in with me!  ;D  What a racket!  Beth has her trained so that if Beth sings the first words of "You Are My Sunshine," Mieka immediately starts "singing."     Too funny!!

Sue I hope you got that cold "headed off at the pass!"  They are such a nuisance.  Do get all well quickly!  (And I love the little email you sent--so cute!)

Marilyn, as Larry said, that sounds like a clogged fuel filter in your car, a very simple thing to fix.  I have had that problem a couple of times with different vehicles.

On Wednesdday nights, we are studying the end times, very interesting.  Pastor recommended last night to go to www.templemount.com for information on the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem.  I haven't had time to do that yet, but he said it is really fascinating, and has lots of photos of what has already been done there.

I need to go take my shake and find a little something for lunch.  See you all later!

Oh, yeah---good to hear from you, Jane, and congrats on the "population explosion" in your family!  ;)

My car is at the dealership in the shop, hopefully it is nothing serious. hey gave me a ride up to the airport t rent a car and that will all be on one bill at the dealership. Jan's neighbor gave her a ride to take the cat to the vet and i will go over to her house in about an hour. I am picking up pizza and a salad for us to have to lunch.

I spoke to Ruth's son and he is waiting or a call from her doctor to see what her doctor is recommending for them to do. Whether she will be back in her own home or what.

Thanks for the comments, Larry, Etta Sue, and Janet.  These new and expected arrivals are, all three, boys and they are all adding to Jean's family.  Jean has been gone six and a half years now, and she is definitely still remembered and missed.  Tim, Dave, Tricia and Laura are her children and ten of these young ones are theirs. (Just can't help thinking how she would love all the grandkids!)  Only two of these great grandchildren belong to my granddaughter Candice.

I have enjoyed the discussion on the versions of the Bible.  I too like the NKJV, but usually return to the KJV.  I guess it is a personal thing, I just happen to love the KJV.

Just checking in to say Hi!  Melaura just came in and has been chatting about her day.  I love the chatting.  The younger two have math homework today.  Kassie works quickly and not as carefully as she should and gets a lot wrong, Elizabeth works dead slow and gets very few wrong.  There has to be a balance somewhere!

The gaither's are coming to town on the 23rd.  We are so looking forward to that.  It will be different to have a new pianist this year.

Well have to get dinner ready.  Melaura is hungry so I had berrer get a move on.

Love to all

Oh how we should thank our Father for sending the Holy Spirit into our hearts.  And we should be at least equally thankful to Him for giving us His Word.  The Holy Spirit, in fact, was sent to give us understanding in His Word, and with that we can know His will.  May we not seek signs!  May we instead seek understanding in His Word, for by it all decisions can indeed be made.

As the great Westminster Confession of Faith says, "The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man's salvation, faith and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelation of the Spirit or traditions of men.  Nevertheless, we acknowledge the inward illumination of the Spirit of God to be necessary for the saving understanding of such things as are revealed in the Word."

Many other good things have indeed been written, but this certainly captures the historic Christian faith.

Hi, friends,

It's good to see everyone here again. Y'all have a good evening.

I have a cold there is no doubting it now.  I just pray that the Cold FX takes care of it and that I don't have to take any medicated treatments.  So far today it has.  Time will tell I suppose.

At this point, as much as I would like to attend the Gaither concert, I don't think I will be able to manage it.

Jane, congratulations on the expanding family.

Now, I think I am going to shut the computer off and see what might be on television before going to bed.

Janet

I'm back home from our ladies' salad supper at church.  I took Beth, and that wears me out, but it is good for her to get out sometimes.

Well, I didn't know what "really late" really meant last evening.  They have chosen to do so much construction on our Highway 401 that the traffic was almost at a standstill for about 30 km eastbound from London.

What a lovely evening I had though.  Two photographers from Toronto were showing photographs of Namibia and Botswana.  Wonderful experiences they had as well.

Their safari was only 4 people with two guides for 4 weeks!  Can you imagine?

It's a dreary day here in Guelph.  I have some errands to do.  At least it's not too hot!

Pat, I'm hapy you had such an enjoyable evening.  I wish I had people who were interested in seeing and hearing about our China trip.  I have done all the work, and nobody to share it with as yet.

I am going to go into town and help a friend move.  She is moving back into Darrel's mobile home.  She lived there before, then moved to Texas, back to Ulysses, but it was rented to someone else, now she has her chance again.  Lots of work, though.  She is a "keeper of stuff." ^-^

I woke with swollen tonsils and no voice today, but feeling better now.  I'm wondering if it's an allergic reaction to something, but I do not normally have allergies.  Double scoop of NOW in my morning Reliv shake!

I have to old comforters and a huge beach towel that I am takin to the Animal Shelter for the dogs. after I get them washed. I have two big bags of other stuff to go tot he rescue Mission Thrift store next week.

My car should be ready today sometime so I will be picking that up too and returning the rental car. Must get busy now.

I went to a fast food place this morning for breakfast.  While I was eating my ex-husband and wife came in.  They didn't see me so when I got done eating I went over and chatted with them for probably a half hour.  It is nice to be friendly with your ex and his wife AND his kids with her.  I have three out of four of their email addresses.

Then I went to the grocery store to purchase items for Euchere Club to eat.  I don't know how it got started that we more or less have dinner for them after we play cards.  I am fixing a crock pot full of Texas Chili, Peanut Butter/Syrup Sandwiches, pickles, shredded cheese, baby carrots, and pop to drink.  Then Brownies for dessert and at the card tables, Chex mix and Peanuts/Candy Corn.  I have spent over $50.  They won't eat/drink everything but that is what I have spent.  I don't know what happened to just finger snacks...that was much better.

And my florescent tube over my picture window went out.  Now I am waiting for Ivalou to come over to help me remove my wooden cornice board so I can put the new tube in and then replace the cornice board.  I can't do that window by myself.

Then I have to pack for tomorrow.  Ivalou and I are going to a family reunion in Southern Indiana and won't be back until sometime Sunday.  Tony is going to follow us down on the cycle but is coming back tomorrow night.  105 miles south.

Hi everyone.  Just up from a nap.  In a few minutes Pat and I will go up to the mall area where she has a doctor's appointment.  While she is there I will go over to Fry's to return an MP3 player I purchased there that I can't get to work.  It is a shame as it was a 512 mg unit but it just won't work.

This morning I went to a friends house to see if I could figure out why they couldn't get on the Internet.  It was a simple problem as there was no dialup number and when I called to get the number they said their credit card had expired.  We gave them the new expiration date and all was fine.  I thought I was going to another friend's house whose computer has died to see if I could replace the hard drive.  However, I talked with him and he thinks he might just buy a new computer as it wouldn't cost much more than to have his diagnosed and replace the hard drive.  I will check on some prices for him at Fry's today.  I then have somewhere to so this evening.  This has been another busy week.

Good to see you all posting.  Maybe I'll have a few more minutes available to write tomorrow.

Janet

I'm back home, tired, grumpy and frustrated. >:(  Well.........I'm better now, because Darrel allowed me to vent to him.  I thanked him for that and told him I'm okay now.  ::)

I went to help the lady move, and she just piddled around, walking from one thing to another, while I made trip after trip to my car with loads of stuff.  Then same thing when we got to the other place...she didn't carry one single item to or from the car!!  And then she went in and got on the phone and spent the rest of the time chatting.  So after three hours of that, I got in my car and came home!!  :ticked:  Okay, off my soap box now.  <3  See?  I'm all sweetness and light again.  ;)

I have a Reliv order to get unpacked and put on the shelves, and then maybe I will do some things around here that I have been procrastinating about.

Etta Sue, maybe you should suggest just finger foods from now on for card night.  It gets to be such a burden for the hostess to make so much stuff.  I'm sure everyone but her enjoys it, but then they all have to do it when their turn comes around.

See you later.
