Morning Devotional...

Given to hospitality (i.e., practicing hospitality).
Romans 12:13

The origin of our modern word "hospital" is the idea of an inn for travelers. We currently use the term to refer to an institution for physical care with the view of healing in mind. Both ideas are included in the biblical gift of hospitality.

Our home and the local assembly should be an inn (place of rest and refreshment) for weary pilgrims traveling life's pathway, as well as a healing place for the wounded soul.

Look for opportunities to extend hospitality to the saints and hurting individuals around you.

"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares" (Heb. 13:2).
                                                                 --William Gustafson

He seems very near as His words I hear,
though His form I do not see;
"When you care for the least of these,
dear child, you have done it unto Me."

Well, my post got lost during the closing from 17th.  Not feeling up to doing it all over.  Have been a little ill and not on the computer lately.  Thanks for the devotionals and read all the posts.  Nice to see Iain back again and nice to meet Beth.

Here is a little something that made me smile:

Memo From GOD

Memo From GOD: To: YOU Date: TODAY
Subject: YOURSELF Reference: LIFE I am God.

Today I will be handling all of your problems. Please remember that I do not need your help.

If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do not attempt to resolve it. Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box. It will be addressed in My time, not yours.hold onto it

If you find yourself stuck in traffic; Don't despair. There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.

Should you have a bad day at work;Think of the man who has been out of work for years.

Should you despair over a relationship gone bad;Think of the person who has never known what it's like to love and be loved in return.

Should you grieve the passing of another weekend;Think of the woman in dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week to feed her children.

Should your car break down, leaving you miles away from assistance;Think of the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk.

Should you notice a new gray hair in the mirror; Think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.

Should you find yourself at a loss and pondering what is life all about, asking what is my purpose? Be thankful. There are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.

Should you find yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, ignorance, smallness or insecurities; Remember, things could be worse. You could be them!!!!

We are having a wet and blustery fall.  The coolest and wettest on record.  I knew that the weather elves would get us for having that great summer.... :-\

Sorry about your wasp sting Pat.  Sure can relate and Janet is right about the ammonia.  Guess the wasps have all left here and headed for the sunshine in Ontario!

Pleasant dreams all and God Bless.

Liz

Hi Sonja, Hi Pat, hello everyone else!  It's night time in BC, and it's raining (again).  I shouldn't complain, rain is good, but sometimes it's a bit tiresome how much it's been raining and how cold it's been.

Bye,

Ursula

Thanks Soni for the good devotional this morning!

Ursula, did you click on the link that poor Karma put in about the rain in their area?  Sure makes you happy that we aren't getting that much!

Nice to be able to welcome, Bigbluesky, wh9 is studying in England but is from Singapore!  Hope you have a good time getting to know the folks here.

Sorry you lost your post, Liz.  I've been thinking a lot about you with my wasp sting here.  :o

I'm off to the Farmer's Market and I'll talk to you all later.

Just a couple of minutes before time to leave for coffee at the cafe.  The sun finally came out yesterday and did it every look good.  Think we are to have a very sunny and pleasant day today.

Karma and nards, sure sorry to read of all the destruction and flooding up your way.  This Ivan has been a very damaging storm and we were very fortunate out where I live, although areas in and around Atlanta are also experiencing the 100 year flood right now.  There is an area of mansions that are all surrounded by flood water over to the west of Atlanta.

Liz, sorry to read that you haven't been feeling well and do hope that today will find you feeling better.  A lot of wisdom in the little piece you posted on turning things over to God.

I was thinking last night that we haven't seen Jeanne Lee post for several days.  Do hope Jeanne is all right.

Papa John, I like your blue posting but hadn't tired of the green. :D

Pat, hope the wasp sting is feeling better today.

Good morning Ursula and all who join with us today.

Welcome to Bigbluesky.

Sonja, thanks for those fine devotional thoughts this morning.

Carol

I will be green for awhile.  Refreshing, lively green.

Sonja:  Thank you for your work on the site this morning (proabably you did this last night).  You are one busy gal with family and all your contributions.

Papa John:  Good to hear that you can make it to Pigeon Forge this year and I do hope the weather cooperates.

Chris:  Thank you for yesterdays posting and the other beautiful site.  It is lovely to have reminders at every chance.

Karma & Nards:  Lotta rain and it is so damaging.  I have wondered about the homeless in these storms as they won't always take advice to take care - I know, we work with a group here in the winter and some will never sleep indoors for various reasons.  Usually so distrustful.  How could they ever find good shelter during these hurricane force winds and such?  And, the rain - I can't bear to think of it.  Glad that you are safe & thanks for letting everyone know.

Here, my left foot is still swollen but so much better.  So many things I want to do but cannot right now.  Last night I watched a Barbara Walters special and Christopher Reeve's message was to get out and do something if you are physically able at all.  Then, we watched a  Billy Grahmn movie about a pilot going into the jungle to look for a young woman and he found faith through the many crises.  It wasn't the best acting nor dialogue but it was another good reminder of how we are at times wandering around like a ninny and God still comes to our aid.

Marilyn:  Yes, you need a permanent place after all the years of work - I will pray for your house.

Oh, I believe Don said that he was going to have to be carried out of our house - that was two houses ago - and God's plan was certainly different than ours.  LOL.

Good Morning: Soni Thank you so much for the devotional today. I was just thinking this morning about entertaining angel's unaware.

A month or so ago I told Gloria to put her TV on TBN when she went to bed , (she leaves it on all the time) She would usually have it on some awful Sci Fi channel so the input she had was out of this world in more ways than one.

In the wee hours of Friday morning, she woke up to Walt Mills singing and preaching, The message so touched her life and spoke directly to her that she called the 800 number to order the tape.

Apparently she dialed the wrong number. A man answered and told her he wasn't Walt
Mills but that he had- had the very same experience that troubled her except that it was his mother who had molested  him.  They talked and prayed and cried on the phone for over 3 hours. He is a godly man and is going to send her some literature that helped him through his crisis.

When I got there yesterday morning Gloria was just bubbling over telling me about her "angel" to helped her so much in the middle of the night. Sje doesn't know why she woke up because she doesn't usually wake up like that. I told her it was a God appointment that God had for her with the angel on the phone

Good morning, friends,

Well, I'll have to let the computer make the smiles for me today, my face is so swollen as to make me almost unrecognizable.

The doctor changed my antibiotics to something that is specifically set up to treat dental problems. So maybe all this will heal up and I'll be in fine shape before long.

Y'all have a good day.

Good morning all!  We woke up to blue skies this morning -praise the Lord.  Unfortunately, another woman drowned in our county last night.  Not sure of the details, but I think that makes the WNC total like 7 or so, with several still unaccounted for.

Hope it is truly a 100 year flood, and we won't see it again for 100 years!

I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday, don't be too busy and tell at least one person your thankful God put them in your life!!!

Love youns

Larry and Papa John ~ When I started downloading Service Pack 2, it stated it would take 3.5 hours.  Well, I had told Jerry we needed to leave his house by 5:30 p.m. for our Small Groups Barbeque.  At 5 p.m. the download was installing.  I needed to leave by 10 minutes after 5.  I was finished a couple of minutes before that.  Almost 8-9 hours to download SP2!!!!!  When I turned on the pc this morning, I had a few things to check and click but now all is the same as it was previously.  So far so good.  I have only defragged my pc twice since last January but I feel when I find some time, I need to defrag again since this big download.

Karma and Nards, there sure is a lot of damage in your area.  I can't imagine that much water in hilly, mountainous country.  And here we are where there is cracks in the soil....we NEED rain!!

Well, in a few hours Jerry and I will be going to my step-granddaughter and her fiance's summer picnic Open House at my son and DIL home.  I have no idea what all is going to go on but I will go.  Charlene doesn't even know who all is invited...mostly strangers to her and Tony.  She is a stuffy housekeeper and is worried about her white/light carpet so I plan to stay in the house as much as possible and say 'take your shoes off' before going to the bathroom.   ::)  I am assuming there will be kids and adults so Jerry and I will do our part to keep their home safe and protected.

Good morning.  We have beautiful sunshine this morning.  I am thinking about the people who have suffered from the hurricanes.  Hopefully the worst of the season is over now.

I hope you all have a good day.

James 1:16-22
16   Don't be deceived, my dear brothers.
17   Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
18   He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
19   My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
20   for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

21   Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
22   Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  (NIV)

Wow, those hurricanes really are something else.  Amazing how powerful they are.  It's kinda sad, because they are so beautiful to look at, when you see those pictures from the satellites, the clouds all lining up in a big circle, and then they cause so much trouble.

Revival: Deliverance Comes By Deliverers

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to
Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians
oppress them. Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh
that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.
--Exodus 3:9-10

Yes, if evangelical Christianity is to stay alive it must have men
again--the right kind of men. It must repudiate the weaklings who
dare not speak out, and it must seek in prayer and much humility the
coming again of men of the stuff of which prophets and martyrs are
made. God will hear the cries of His people as He heard the cries of
Israel in Egypt, and He will send deliverance by sending deliverers.
It is His way.

And when the deliverers come--reformers, revivalists, prophets--they
will be men of God and men of courage. They will have God on their
side because they are careful to stay on God's side. They will be
coworkers with Christ and instruments in the hands of the Holy
Spirit. Such men will be baptized with the Spirit indeed and through
their labors He will baptize others and send the long-delayed
revival.  This World: Playground or Battleground?, 20.

"Lord, send those men to the church soon. Raise up a mighty army
even among young people today who will become that kind of men. We
need a great movement of the Spirit of God that would bring the
much-needed revival. Amen."

Chris, thank you for the Tozer article.  Amen to it.  May our God make each of US deliverers - those who love Christ enough to give up ease, pleasure, comforts, etc. for the sake of His Name and His people.

By the way, Chris - and anyone else interested in that lighthouse - that lighthouse is actually only a replica.  The real Trinidad lighthouse was on Trinidad Head, which you can see a little of behind and to the right of the replica.  It was about 150-200 feet above the ocean.  But a huge tsunami came along, one over 150-200 feet high, and washed the original away.  You can still go up and over the top of the Head and see where it was.

Marilyn

Gloria and I picked berries today and I have a blackberry cobbler in the oven just about to come out, I can hardly wait until it is cool enough to eat. MMMMMM.

Blackberry cobbler?  Marilyn, my mom used to make blackberry cobbler which was about the best tasting food I think I have ever eaten.  Nothing like blackberry cobbler made with freshly picked wild blackberries.  She also made blackberry jam and then jam cake.  Well, anyway you reminded me of these wonderful things.

We still have a house full of company.  We had hamburgers cooked out on the grill.  Two granddaughters with their husbands as one daughter and her husband were all here for supper tonight.   God has given me a wonderful family.  But being in the family of God is even more wonderful.

Eph 2:17-19
17   He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.
18   For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
19   Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household,

I just spoke to Jeanne Lee on the phone. She is fine and in good health, She says to tell y-all that she has been very busy working on a special project for the villiage and working on the Town's website. This project is taking up all her time and she just hasn't felt like getting on the computer after being on it all those long working hours. WE had a nice chat.
