Morning Devotional...

His Still Small Voice

"But the anointing which ye have received of [God] abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth."
(1 John 2:27)

Have you ever noticed that you are sometimes aware of certain things even before you know what the Word says about them? That's because the Holy Spirit is inside you teaching you the truth. He speaks into your spirit. Then your spirit relays His promptings to your mind. Suddenly, you'll have a new thought. "I need to forgive that person," you'll think, or "I need to stop saying those unkind things."

As you become more aware of the Spirit of God in your everyday affairs, you'll be quicker to hear and obey those promptings. You'll actually get in the habit of allowing the Spirit of Truth to reveal the will of God to you. And, believe me, that's one habit God wants you to have!

One of the first things that the Spirit said to me when I began to listen to His promptings was "spend more time in prayer." As I obeyed, I began to be impressed to spend at least one hour a day in prayer. After I'd begun to do that, He revealed it to me in His Word (Matt. 26:40).

Since then, I have talked with people from all over the world who are hearing the same thing. Believers everywhere are hearing the Spirit of God direct them to more prayer.

God hasn't given the Holy Spirit to just a few special Christians. He's given Him to all of us. And if we'll just learn to be sensitive to His voice, He'll guide us into all truth!

Think about how different your life would be if you knew the truth of God about every situation! Doesn't that just make you want to listen to your spirit? Doesn't it make you want to be on the keen edge of what God is saying?

Start tuning your ear to His still small voice within you. Honor Him and welcome His guidance into your everyday affairs. Listen for His promptings and be quick to obey. He's ready to speak to you.

Janet that is a most wonderful devotion today, well tonight. I am 2nd in.

The promptings of the Holy Spirit can be so subtle or it can be very bold. I try to be attentive to the Holy Spirit I really do try. Someitmes  Imiss out and God has to remind me.  Spending an hour in prayer and listening is the most important part of my day and I always do that first thing in the morning after I feed the dogs and can sit down for that quiet time.

Well Good night  Now.

Good evening from chilly Vancouver Island.  We are having a very cold fall...think it is breaking records for cold and rain.  No Indian Summer this year!

I am late and early with posting.  Had a busy day and also ended up getting dinner for the kids.  Then Squeek decided to sit on my lap (at long last) ....only because I refused to give up MY chair...despite the sad looks from her.  Wendy had an especially painful treatment today and needed a little help.  I was in Duncan for most of the day and did lots of walking to try and get my back working again.  That's the way the mop flops!  Another old saying :-\

Adam's ale is indeed an old saying.  Looked it up and this is what I found:
Meaning:
    Water.
  Origin:
Supposedly the only drink available to the biblical character Adam - the brewing industry was presumably not then established.

Regarding Banff, every place is gorgeous.  I am from Calgary and remember Banff when it was only an attractive little place to spend time.  Now, it is simply another tourist haven.  'Tho the beauty hasn't changed and this person still misses the awesome mountains.

Enjoyed all the posts and devotionals. I  miss Ria....has anyone heard from her??  Time to call it a day and get to bed.  Pleasant dreams all and God Bless.

Liz

Dear Janet,

Thanks for the apt devotional this morning. It fitted perfecly with something Carol, my dear sister and friend In Christ and I were talking about yesterday.  Thanks Holy Spirit!

Eddie,

My grandfather always encouraged my sister Lesley and I to drink water, in fact we were not given lemonade and squashes in my childhood. Gramps said that water was "Adam's Ale"and he told me that was Adam's drink, which of course it was.  He meant that if it was good enough for Adam it was good enough for us., therefore I often refer to water as Adam's Ale.

Hello Marilyn Hi there sis  :-*

Hello Liz. Nice to see you this morning. It's very chilly here too...brr...brr. :(

Hello Beth How are you today?  We prayed for you over here yesterday sister.  How are your dear little puppies? ::)

God bless everyone.
Jenny.

                           Adam's Ale

Papa John.
Hello Papa...I just had a look at last night's posts(your afternoon)...Gosh and you did not know that water was "Adam's ale"....Goodness  :o  ha ha!  Only joking.

Pat.
You must get that knowledge from some English forebears.  Did you have English forebears?  The English are very clever. ;D...and so are the Welsh.  I had a Welsh mother.  ;)

Pat

Good Morning Everyone!

I've heard that today is going to be a very hot day here in our part of the country.  Nice weather for Janet and Darryl to be in Niagara Falls.  I had a nice chat with her last night.  They got to Niagara Falls at about 10 pm so it was a long day for them on the bus.

Well, I plan to get busy here.  Still have some errands to run and bank deposit to make, etc. so better shake a leg and get at it.

I'll be back to say "Farewell" before I pull out to go to meet Janet.

Nice to see you pop in, Liz.  We usually get Indian Summer here after the first frost and some places here in Ontario have already had that frost!  :o

Adam's Ale, Jenny was said in school and at my places of work as well as at home so I think it was just a generally Canadian used term for me in our part of the country althought my grandma came from Wales and Grandad came from England on one side and both grandparents on Dad's side came from Scotland.

HAHA.. Congrats for being Number 1, Ed!

Good morning, friends,

I hope it is an excellent day for everyone.

So the days and nights are to be exactly the same length today - it's always surprising to me when the seasons roll around so quickly - personally, I've been thankful for the summertime and the warmth of the sun on my old bones.  :)

Y'all take care!

Good Morning: Well the fridge went on the  blink again, It is 50 degrees in the fridge part and the stuff  left in the freezer is frozen again. The meat was thawed last night and I took it out and put it in an ice chest.  My landlord is supposed to get me another fridge today. It only worked for 1 week.  DRAT!!

Today I must take Gloria to the Doctor. She is trying to convince him that  she can get her drivers liscense back. I don't think she should be driving because of her medical disabilities. Extreme fluctuation of Blood Sugars, the previous stroke. A disease that causes the muscles of her neck to pull her head around to the right side which causes her to look forward through the corners of her eyes. Please pray that she will  be truthful.

Well y-all I need to check the prayers then get ready to go to work.

I forgot to tell you that yesterday the First Graders at the Blue Lake school spotted a Mountain Lion in the morning behind the school. That is less than a mile from Gilbert's house. Savannah doesn't go to school in Blue Lake, Gilbert brings her back to the same school she attended here in
Mckinleyville as it is very close to where he has his Glass Blowing shop.

Jenny, when you used the expression “Adam’s Ale” I knew immediately what it was.  I had just never seen or heard that expression before.  This proves we are never too old to learn something new.

Good morning to Ruth Ann.  Yes, summer is over and fall begins.  I think that today is the last full day of summer.  Aren’t we having beautiful weather this week!

Pat, I hope you have a good day in your going here and there.  I really like a nice Indian summer day.  We are leaving Saturday for a week in Pigeon Forge which is six miles from Gatlinburg.  We missed our week there last year because I was in the hospital.  I should say, “If the Lord wills we will go this year.”

Nards, you have a good day.  I had heard that I 40 was shut down in the area of the Tennessee and North Carolina border.

Sarah, I hope you have a nice day in school today.  And also good morning to Marilyn and Etta Sue.

James 4:13-15

14   Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
15   Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."  (NIV)

Well, after being extemely busy for the past week, I'm finally getting back a little to normal.  I've got one week left for Historical Books, actually just Wednesday and Thursday to finish off 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther.  Woohoo, students will definitely be telling me to slow down...  Oh well, it seems that's the way it goes though sometimes.  We also had some really important meetings with our leadership here.  They went well, but there are still a bunch of things that have to be decided, so we'll see how it goes over the next couple of months.  I have a meeting with our academic dean tomorrow to discuss some issues, so I'm hoping that things will go well with that as well.

I'll hopefully type more later.
A watched clock never boils.

Etta Sue

I am so glad and happy to hear that Karma and Nards home is safe and the power is back on.  Yes, it will take some work to get the drive back to normal but that is minor to some of the damage in that area.

I can only imagine the scenery that Janet and Darrell are seeing today.  I know they are anxious to meet up with Pat and Pat will probably tell and show them things that they would never hear or see without her input.

I would love to see photos of the Banff area.  As Pat said, it is a photographic paradise.  Lake Louise is the one place that stands out in my mind.  The water is turquoise.....yes, turquoise.  And as Pat said, last year when I was there and when Pat was there, it was smoky!!!!  Lots of forest fires at that time.

Caffeinne!  I only drink a couple of cups of coffee a day but I don't have to have them.  If I didn't have my Hawaiian Flavored coffee, I probably wouldn't drink any coffee.

OH YES!!  My urologists said 'EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD' followed by 'see you in 3 months'!!!  I knew in my heart that I was tumorless but I needed her to tell me.   God is good!

I ordered some plants...hibiscus, clematis and butterfly bushes...by mail and they came yesterday.  Wouldn't you know when the weather is getting hot again, I have to go out and plant stuff.  Oh, well!  They will be done and I can see the beauty next spring when they come up bright and green.  And I need to mow today also.  So I am outta here!!!!!!!

Hi everyone.  Like the Papa John and Etta Sue, we continue to have just gorgeous weather.  It is suppose to get to 80 today but this morning I had to put on a sweatshirt and it sure feels good.  Of course, I came home from coffee and my wife had the house open.  She has gone grocery shopping so I have closed the house up as I thought it was too chilly.

Janet, what a fine devotional for today.  Glad to learn that you have arrived in Nigraga Falls and know you all will be having a great time twith Pat and Ruthie.

Today is Calvin Cove day.  The director is on the mission trip with our church to Hondurus so there is a fill-in director for today.  I always enjoy singing with and playing the piano for these folks and they seem to enjoy it.

Marilyn, hope you get your refrigerator problem solved today.  It sounds like it is time to give up on that unit.

Etta Sue, that is the report we wanted to hear from you.  It sounds like you will have some very pretty bushes when you get them planted.

Shief, that is moving thru the Old Testament very quickly.  Your students must have some very serious homework assignments to be able to cover that many books so quickly.

Welcome Garry Julian to CP.

Sarah, hope you are feeling better before the day is out.

Revival: Oneness of Mind

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together
in unity!
--Psalm 133:1

God always works where His people meet His conditions, but only when
and as they do. Any spiritual visitation will be limited or
extensive, depending how well and how widely conditions are met.

The first condition is oneness of mind among the persons who are
seeking the visitation....

Historically, revivals have been mainly the achieving of a oneness of
mind among a number of Christian believers. In the second chapter of
Acts it is recorded that they were "all with one accord in one place"
when the Spirit came upon them. He did not come to bring them into
oneness of accord; He came because they were already so. The Spirit
never comes to give unity (though His presence certainly aids and
perfects such unity as may exist). He comes to that company who have,
through repentance and faith, brought their hearts into one
accord....

Every church should strive for unity among its members, not languidly,
but earnestly and optimistically. Every pastor should show his people
the possibilities for power that lie in this fusion of many souls into
one. Paths to Power, 59,61,64.

"Lord, give us that unity in our church today. I've seen first-hand
the devastation of disunity. Give us a oneness of mind that we might
experience Your full blessing in our midst. Amen."

Ruth Ann, I am so glad to hear that you have given up the diet cokes, they, and other diet , and sugar free sodas contain the artificial sweetener Aspartame, this is really bad for you, it makes you hyperactive and causes sleeplessness.
I know this because my doctor told me to pack them in and after I did so, I slept much better than before and was much more relaxed too, well done. :)

Hello, it's me...20 minutes into Wednesday morning.

I couldn't go to bed...wanted to see the news re the hostages. I have been praying for them throughout the day, for a miracle. The news is not good that another much loved father and husband has been murdered in a dreadful way.

Ken Bigley's family have been pleading with political figures over here today for help......

The brother of the perpetrator has been interviewed today and he says that his brother suffered tortures in a Jordanian prison and it turned him...how can he excuse such evil.

Dear brothers and sisters, I am going to bed now with a full heart.

"but I say unto you, love one another."

Maranatha,
Even so, come Lord Jesus.

Jenny.

Hi everyone!  This weekend I will be displaying my pictures at a local arts and crafts festival.  Lost my job a few weeks ago...don't know if I've written that here or not??  I'm fighting with a big corporation for my unemployment.  I hate having to do that.  And they falsify things to avoid paying. I just pray for favor from the Lord over the whole situation.
I've entered some pictures in the Monthly photo challenge "Liquid"  Stop by and take a look.  I think it will surprise you!

I'D RATHER HAVE JESUS
(Click to hear music)

I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
I'd rather be His than have riches untold;
I'd rather have Jesus than houses or land;
I'd rather be led by His nail-pierced hand:

refrain:
Than to be the king of a vast domain or be held in sin's dread sway!
I'd rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today.

I'd rather have Jesus than men's applause;
I'd rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I'd rather have Jesus than world-wide fame;
I'd rather be true to His holy name:

He's fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He's sweeter than honey from out the comb;
He's all that my hungering spirit needs -
I'd rather have Jesus and let Him lead:

Thanks for the song, Soni, and for the devotional, Janet

Sounds like Pat, Janet and Darryl are going to have a great time.   :) :)

A great day...beautiful fall weather, a football game to see where grandson is playing....work was good and we got our first truckloads of the new cottonseed crop today.

Marilyn, I hope you get that new fridge.  YOu sure do need it!

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

Well, more good news!

1. I ate a real lunch (baked fish, broccoli, and summer squash) for the first time in several days! How delicious. Much better than "mush."

2. A work project I've had fits with for 2 years and 9 months, finally worked RIGHT this afternoon. The people sending the data had been so haphazard, and finally in March I balked. I had reasoned, written emails, real snail mail letters, called people in high places. But I reckon when a company isn't getting payments in the range of $$,$$$, someone actually listens. The file I received today was processed and out the door in a bit less than 2 hours. Otherwise, it was taking sometimes weeks to try to figure out about 1,000 billings a month that were terrible.

3. Someone liked a report I had done and plans to present it at a national meeting in two weeks. I'll be a bit embarrassed, 'cause I'll be at that meeting, but it will be nice for someone to give me a compliment.

4. I helped my brother put his photos from his missions trip to Russia last year into PowerPoint so he can present them at a church meeting this weekend.

5. My boss asked if I could work on Sunday, and I really wanted to be in Indianapolis to see my brother's presentation on Saturday night. So, we made a bargain, I get to leave early Thursday afternoon to drive to Indianapolis, and then return right after breakfast Sunday morning, which will allow me time to make it to work (God willing) in time to get the report finished that he's writing while he's in a hotel room in Little Rock tonight. We talked at lunch today about how when he was growing up he used to see planes "way up in the sky and wondered if he'd ever fly in one. We laughed when I replied, "Now, Southwest Airlines just needs to build a bunk just for you in every plane they fly!"

Well, longest message I think I've ever written. I know it's late, but maybe some of you will be able to read it.

Ruth Ann

I hope I don't get bonked on thehead while I am writing this. No new fridge today. The Landlord came and measured the space where the fridge goes and said he has another one lined up but he wants the appliance repairman ro check this one first to see if it can be fixed. He is balking because this place is going to be removed and torn down  probably next year. That is why I am trying to move in the near future.

So I am having to replace the food that was in my fridge and freezer. The meat and eggs I am going to cook up for dog food. They will like that.

So I will say good night now, I have had a nice hot shower and shampooed the smoke out of my hair put my clothes in the basket. All clean and smelling good now.

Nite nite friends.

Ruth sent me this.  I thought it was worth posting here.

"We are fearfully and wonderfully made" (Address anyone?)

This is a beautiful story.... will not be able to have tea in a teacup again without thinking of this.

There was a couple who took a trip to England to shop in a beautiful antique store to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They both liked antiques and pottery, and especially teacups. Spotting an exceptional cup, they asked "May we see that? We've never seen a cup quite so beautiful."

As the lady handed it to them, suddenly the teacup spoke, "You don't understand. I have not always been a teacup. There was a time when I was just a lump of red clay. My master took me and rolled me pounded and patted me over and over and I yelled out, "Don't do that." "I don't like it!" "Let me alone," but he only smiled, and gently said; "Not yet!"

Then, WHAM! I was placed on a spinning wheel and suddenly I was spun around and around and around. "Stop it! I'm getting so dizzy! I'm going to be sick!" I screamed. But the master only nodded and said, quietly; 'Not yet.'

He spun me and poked and prodded and bent me out of shape to suit himself and then...... Then he put me in the oven. I never felt such heat. I yelled and knocked and pounded at the door." Help! Get me out of here!" I could see him through the opening and I could read his lips as he shook his head from side to side, 'Not yet'.
"When I thought I couldn't bear it another minute, the door opened. He carefully took me out and put me on the shelf, and I began to cool. Oh, that felt so good! "Ah, this is much better," I thought. But, after I cooled he picked me up and he brushed and painted me all over. The fumes were horrible. I thought I would gag. 'Oh, please; Stop it, Stop it!! I cried. He only shook his head and said. 'Not yet!'.

Then suddenly he put me back in to the oven. Only it was not like the first one. This was twice as hot and I just knew I would suffocate. I begged. I pleaded. I screamed. I cried. I was convinced I would never make it. I was ready to give up. Just then the door opened and he took me out and again placed me on the shelf, where I cooled and waited ------- and waited, wondering "What's he going to do to me next?"

An hour later he handed me a mirror and said “Look at yourself.” And I did. I said, 'That's not me; that couldn't be me. It's beautiful. I'm beautiful!" Quietly he spoke: "I want you to remember, then,' he said, 'I know it hurt to be rolled and pounded and patted, but had I just left you alone, you'd have dried up. I know it made you dizzy to spin around on the wheel, but if I had stopped, you would have crumbled. I know it hurt and it was hot and disagreeable in the oven, but if I hadn't put you there, you would have cracked. I know the fumes were bad when I brushed and painted you all over, but if I hadn't done that, you never would have hardened. You would not have had any color in your life. If I hadn't put you back in that second oven, you wouldn't have survived for long because the hardness would not have held. Now you are a finished product. Now you are what I had in mind when I first began with you."

The moral of this story is this: God knows what He's doing [for each of us ]. He is the potter, and we are His clay. He will mold us and make us, and expose us to just enough pressures of just the right kinds that we may be made into a flawless piece of work to fulfill His good, pleasing and perfect will.

So when life seems hard, and you are being pounded and patted and pushed almost beyond endurance; when your world seems to be spinning out of control; when you feel like you are in a fiery furnace of trials; when life seems to "stink", try this....
Brew a cup of your favorite tea in your prettiest tea cup, sit down and think on this story and then, have a little talk with the Potter.
