Morning Devotional...

Why Did Jesus Come from Heaven?
By Michael Youssef, Ph.D.

The much-loved Christmas song "O Holy Night" paints the scene of the world welcoming the long-awaited Savior.

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth!

It recounts that powerful moment when the Messiah appeared, the hope of the world coming to earth as a baby. But what caused Christ to step down from heaven and live among us, God in human form?

Long lay the world, in sin and error pining
'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

Did Jesus come to make us happy? Did He come to make us good people? No, His mission was much deeper than that. Jesus sacrificed His life to save us from the death we deserved so that we could know Him and live eternally. His mission was salvation from sin; His motivation was love.

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices
O night divine, O night when Christ was born.

This Christmas, how will you live in response to the greatest act of love the world has ever known? As you come before the Lord this week, ask Him to reveal more to you about His precious Son, His costly sacrifice, and His great gift of salvation.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, open my eyes to the magnificence of Jesus' birth. Teach me about the power of Your sacrifice and show me the depths of Your love this Christmas season. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

This time of year brings thoughts of happiness as well as sadness for some. People without families, the homeless and those who have lost a loved one. We need to keep these people in prayer. This time of year also brings more suicides than any other time of year. Helplessness and hopelessness rum rampant this time of year. In fact I have a friend whose power  has been off for close to 3 weeks now, the bill was $100 and now to have it turned back on is $795. I see her helplessness and hopelessness in her Facebook postings. On top of this she has 2 kids on about 10 the other an autistic boy of about 17.

Just keep them in prayer as they try to get some help, all seems pretty hopeless right now for her she has contacted every agency and church in the area and  hasn't found any help yet. It really hurts my heart the my church congregation  doesn't have the funds to help her either.

All I am asking here is to keep this family and others in the same situation in your prayers.

Thanks for that information, Marilyn.  Of course, though, she is not helpless and should not be hopeless - Jesus is there if she just turns to him and trusts him.  God is in charge and has His reasons for this poor family's load   I will be keeping them in my prayers that God will soon show them the way.

Jeanne, I don't know how to get the photos from my phone to my computer!  :-[  Larry has kindly tried to tell me, but I've been dealing with a very unpleasant situation with a person I thought was a friend--until I made the mistake  of loaning her money.  Now she is texting me really snotty and unkind stuff.  :idiot: >:( :( :-X

Maybe tomorrow I won't feel so muddle-headed and can do something about it.  (I hope)  Sometimes I wish I didn't even have a computer, but then I remember all of you sweet people, and know how I would miss being in touch with you.

Hugs to all.

Janet, I'll pray for a solution to the problem with your friend.   :(

About the pictures on your phone, I think they can be sent directly from the phone.  I've received several from my daughter-in-law that say "sent from my i-phone".  If you can send an email from your phone you should be able to attach a photo to that.  But don't ask me how.  I know nothing about smart phones.   :D

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone on a cloudy morning but to have mixed clouds and sun this afternoon.  We are suppose to get up to 59 degrees around 3 pm.  It appears there is little chance of more rain.  The only activity on the schedule for today is our weekly dinner at church.  The menu tonight is grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings and dessert.  This will be our last dinner at the church until January 4th.  Yesterday I did pick up the groceries Pat had ordered online from Walmart and also made the quick stop at Aldi's mainly for fresh vegetables.

Jeanne, I really liked your devotional thoughts on Christmas that you shared for this week.

Marilyn, I am sure your friend is feeling desperate with everything backing up on her.  There are many people who are very stressed at this time of the year and that is sad as this should be a joyous time of the year if we keep the focus on the birth of our Savior.

Janet, I also know from long experience not to loan money to a friend or family member.  If I am going to help them it will be a gift with no expectation of repayment.  This avoids my developing a resentment.  I am not responsible for another's debts and therefore I have no reason to feel guilty by saying no.  If you didn't have a computer we would be the losers in not being able to be a small part of your life and you a part of our lives.  Things don't usually seem as dark and impossible as they do the night before.  At least that has been my experience.  To email pictures off of your phone find the little icon that says Photos (I believe this is a standard iPhone app and not an app we add to the phone.)  At the top of the page click on the word "Select" and then touch one or more photos you want to email to yourself or someone else.  Then touch the little rectantular box with the arror pointed up and it brings up a variety of options such as email or Facebook or Message.  Just select what you want and it will attach the photos to the email or send them to Facebook, etc.  If you are emailing them to yourself or someone else just put in the email address and add a subject and then any message you want.  The photos are already attached to the email.  I hope this helps.  It sounds much harder than it is.

Pat

Thank you so much, Jeanne for opening another "Thoughts for the Week".  My situation for the past few weeks has been difficult and a steady increase in my prednisone which helps the illness but doesn't help with other stuff!

Marilyn, I'm praying as well about your friend.  This is so sad.

:coffee: Wishing my "To Do" list would disappear today.

Ruth Ann:  So nice to read that you are better.  The idea of putting in an order and having the trunk loaded with groceries is really nice.  We have used that on our trips when returning to the house and it does help with the first-day-back-home list.

We will be staying in Tucson and not taking our oldest son and DIL up on their offer to drive us back to Colorado for Christmas.  Reason being - Don is doing well with altitude here and the other is the trip is exhausting even sitting in the back seat.  That offer was so sweet.  I am having off and on sadness on not being with everyone - and sit down with devotions to keep my focus on what to be thankful about these days.

Our good and faithful friend of 93 years young is gone - we went to the nicest memorial and all of her five sons spoke plus they had a power point viewing that was perfect.

Don is in midst of quite a few medical appointments - another reason we opted to stay put over Christmas.

Don spotted one quail so we put out a quail block of seeds - the doves seem to like it.  Flowers are still blooming here but the color is dimming.  Two nights of freezing is this week so we will cover at least three little fruit trees.

Larry:  Your idea of putting Pat's recipes in a book is super.  I couldn't get the sausage muffin recipe.

Pat:  Prednisone is pretty strong medicine.  It can be a great healer.  My prayers for the meds to work and get you back into a pain-free life again.

Hi everyone on a bright and sunny Thursday morning.  I am having a laid back morning as my schedule is light for today.  I don't have to pick up my friend for coffee this morning as members of his family are taking him out for lunch as his Christmas present.  I will go to coffee in a little bit and afterward stop at Office Depot for some printer ink.  I must get it today to take advantage of the $10 off coupon we got with the purchase of Pat's chair a few days ago.  If Pat can get her shoe on this afternoon we may go out to eat for our main meal of the day.  If not it may be chili for dinner tonight.  We had a nice time with Scott last evening.  After the dinner at church the santuary was open for a special service and Scott wanted to see the interior of our sanctuary so we stopped in briefly and he was most impressed with the interior of the church.  This was a big step as he hasn't wanted anything to do with the church for many years since he lost his baby son over 20 years ago.  Hopefully one of these days he will return to church but that has to be his decision.

Pat, I sure hope your message was an indication that the pain is lessening for you from your illness.  I continue to pray for you.

Carol, we have been very pleased with the online ordering from Walmart and just stopping to pick it up.  I know you are sad not being able to be back with your family for Christmas.  Perhaps you can still share in it through the use of Facetime or one of the other video calling apps.  It can almost be like being there.  I am glad that Don is doing well with the altitude there in Tuscon.

Jeanne, your little graphic tells me that it is cold up your way.

Jeanne Lee

You're right, Larry.  It's cold here.  And expected to get much colder for another day and night.   And then maybe above freezing for a day or two, but with snow/rain/sleet...

Larry:  We use Skype a lot - this year the children are all scattered but they will be in touch for sure.

Minutes ago, I had a warning supposedly from Microsoft and this laptop was taken over by flashing warnings to call a phone number - an 800 number.  Don't call that number.  We kept working on this and went to Control Alt-Delete to shut it down and it did shut down.  Bringing up the computer again, it seems to be fine.  We have read all about these tricksters going after your money - so beware as it does appear to be legitimate but it is not.

Don is going to do a full cleaning on this laptop today.  Off to the doctor.  Thanks, Jeanne - please stay warm.  80* here today and freezing on Saturday.

Janet

Thanks, Larry, for the detailed instructions on sending an email from iPhone.  I will attempt it later.  Busy day today, gym, then Circle meeting/Bible study at church, now a little time, then I have another event to make food for and get Christmas cards ready to take along.  Whew!!

I went to town (here) yesterday, determined to get some Christmas shopping done.  But I just didn't want to; I wasn't in the mood; there is nothing any of us need, etc., etc., so I finally gave up and came home with very few items.  Sigh..... I don't know why I'm feeling so out of it this year!  I just want to sleep through it.  But on the other hand, I want to be with my family members, too.  :-\

Pat, I'm so sorry you still are having problems.  I wish there were something I could do to help.  Of course, I know the most important and valuable thing is prayer, and I am doing that!  Love you!

I am feeling so sleepy I can barely keep my eyes open!  What's up with that?

Sending love and warm wishes to all of you today!

Good Afternoon everyone, Freckles and I  went  to our hospital visit with the Furry Friends today. Six teams go the first, third and fifth  Thursday to visit the patients. We were teamed today with a Black standard Poodle and her human.

Pat I know that Prednisone can really do a number on a person. My Mother had to take it for years. I hope you do not suffer the same consequences she did.Well I know you wont because you have lots of prayer warriors in your corner.

We are going to California for Christmas to spend the time with Gilbert and family like we do every year. We have people praying for us that the road will not be icy, no rain or snow to deal with while we travel.

Hi everyone on a cold, for us, morning.  It is now up to 32 degrees after getting into the high 20's last night.  Not much on the schedule for today.  The housekeeper will be here this morning.  I have no plans to go anywhere today.  I have things ready to fix Pat's breakfast and have already made my sandwich for lunch and also for tomorrow.  I also fixed some celery sticks.  I think we will likely fix a pot of chili for our dinner tonight.  The BBQ was tasty yesterday.

Carol, I have used Skype often in the past and it worked very well.  I expect most of us have had that same flashing screen.  It is nothing but a scam although it is frightening since we read about malware taking over our computer and locking our files.

Janet, we seem to be more in the Christmas spirit this year than we were last Christmas.  I need to get my Christmas email card ready and sent as well as getting the Christmas check into the mail for our great grandchildren.  I think I will take care of that today.

Marilyn, a standard Poodle is a fairly large sized dog if I remember correctly.  I am sure your hospital visits are greatly appreciated by the patients.  I expect you are counting the days until you head for California.

Jeanne, reading of the very cold temperatures you and many others are experiencing make me so glad we live in South Carolina.

Marilyn

Yes Larry the standard Poole is a larg/;tall dog but usually only weigh about 65lbs unless they are over weight.

Also I am getting anxious to head south  about 210 miles. The weather there is the same as here though, Gilbert is about 8 miles in land from the coast,

It is 36° here this morning. Brrrr. at least we don't have snow. It is down to about 1,000ft. We are at 60ft. here. When we go south  we go right down the coast along the ocean most of the way.

Hi everyone.  We are looking forward to it getting up to the mid-60's today and staying in the 60's through the night and then into the 70's tomorrow.  It didn't get out of the low 40's yesterday.  When I read the temperatures many of you are enduring I am certainly not complaining.  I think the main activities today will be to get Christmas mailing done, including taking a small package to the Post Office.  I also plan on making some more sausage muffins for Pat and probably a few more kitchen duties.

Marilyn, 65 pounds is a large dog.  I hope you will find the roads clear all the way to Gilbert's.

Last night I attended the Care Home Holiday dinner (combined Thanksgiving and Christmas)  Beth wasn't feeling well at all, and barely responded to me or to her faithful friend Mindi who came, along with her husband.  I'm glad it isn't tonight!  We are having wild weather, snowing and blowing, very cold, and getting colder each hour.  It was 9* when I got up, and headed down to at least -9 by midnight, and in the morning, they predict -9 with wind chill of -20!  B-r-r-r-r!

We had tickets to the play at Dodge City tonight, but aren't going.  We all decided a dinner theater wasn't worth the chance of being on the road in these conditions, even though we all do enjoy it so much.  Three couples usually go together.

I finally started wrapping gifts today, and my back is complaining.  :(  I kept hoping the elves would do it while I slept, but the little guys haven't shown up!  ;)

I'm surely glad my daughter came last weekend, or she wouldn't have come.  I know she wouldn't get on the highway in this--and of course, we wouldn't want her to!

Jeanne, good idea to enjoy your warm blanket cocoon!  I don't blame you one bit!

I just ate another bowl of the good stew Darrel made, now I'm headed back into my studio to do more wrapping.  I have nev er enjoyed wrapping gifts.  :-\  Does that make me a Scrooge?  :D

We sold our 5th wheel trailer to a friend the age of our grandson Mark.  He lives over in Johnson, 22 miles to our West.  We hooked it up and took it over to him yesterday, and he has a high school friend who was to be there today to help him work on it this weekend.  I hope they are able to get the roof back on the half we scalped!  Glad to see him and wife have it, I think they will enjoy it probably more than we ever did.  We enjoyed it a lot when we used it; we just didn't use it much at all.  I hope that friend made it over here from Wichita to help him!  Thank goodness, he has a friend who is letting him work on it inside a huge building, which is heated to around 40*  That helps a LOT!

Back to the wrapping.

Hi everyone on a beautiful 65 degree and so far sunny morning here in South Carolina.  We are to get up to 71 degrees around noon time. It was a very nice day here yesterday.  I watched my Alma Mater, Northwest Missouri State University win the Division II National Championship in football yesterday afternoon.  The game was being played in Kansas City, Kansas and it was extremely cold and the field was so covered with snow you couldn't even see the lines on the field.

I did have a productive day yesterday as got the Christmas wrapping done and took one box to the Post Office.  There were only about 8 people ahead of me and it didn't take more than 8-10 minutes before I was waited on as there were three clerks working.  I also got my Christmas Letter prepared and emailed.  Yesterday afternoon I made more sausage muffins for Pat and also made the peanut clusters that are so easy and so good.  Pat made them last year and they are very good although very sweet.  I plan on sharing some of them with my neighbors as the recipe makes about 4 1/2 pounds of candy.

I plan on a quiet day this afternoon.  I will go to Sunday School and Church but Pat will not be going as the gout isn't any better and her foot is swelling.  She plans on calling the doctor's office tomorrow.  I will bring home something for lunch then rest and watch football this afternoon.  One of the game this afternoon will be played in Chicago and I read that they expect it to be the coldest conditions in which a pro football game has ever been played.

Janet, so sorry that Beth wasn't feeling well and couldn't enjoy the Holiday dinner.  I know you must be terribly worried about her.  It sounds like you were wise to skp the play as you could have gotten there and found it had been cancelled for last night due to your bad weather.  I don't enjoy wrapping gifts either and really don't do a very good job but it seems I am always the one doing most of the wrapping.  This year there were only three gifts to wrap.  Did you scalp the roof as you were taking the man the 5th wheeler trailer or had it been that way for sometime?

Janet

Good morning from frigid, frozen SW Kansas!!  Our temp was -18 when I got up, now it's heated clear up to 2*!  Our water is frozen, so Darrel was afraid for us to go to church, thinking it might thaw sooner (still hasn't) and if the pipes are busted, flood the house.  I have been praying earnestly for it to PLEASE not flood our house AGAIN. :(  Our high is to be maybe 31*  The sun is shining brightly now, so it looks a lot better, at least.  We haven't had this cold a temp in over 20 years here!  It used to be fairly common to get to -20, but not for a long time. :snowball:

Larry, we scalped the roof off the 5th wheel back in July, when we went to visit my sister.  We waited for months for Lon, who did our big remodel after all the water damage, to come fix it, we were going to just give it to him, but he didn't get it done.  He has found the love of is life in Topeka, so was driving there every week and spending three or four days, and getting farther and farther behind on his jobs.  He finally called me and said he just wasn't going to be able to get to it.  He had nowhere to keep it under cover until the repairs could be done, and he was moving to Topeka to marry the gal.  So we sold it very cheaply to a young man who used to live just down the road.  He was very thrilled to get it, and very appreciative. What happened was, we went under a railroad underpass that was only 12' 4" and that trailer needs a full 12 foot clearance.  It wasn't marked so one would notice it, and they told us several campers or other trailers do that every summer.  Good deal for Hutchinson, as they then gave us a ticket for inattentive driving, and we had to pay a hefty fine.  :ticked:  Not a happy day!!

You folks may actually be seeing some photos from Janet soon!!!  Thanks, Larry!!  Thanks, Jeanne!!

"Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" was written by John Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie. It was first sung on Eddie cantor's radio show in November 1934. It became an instant hit with orders for 100,000 copies of sheet music the next day and more than 400,000 copies sold by Christmas. On December 18, 1996, I asked The Lord to direct me in writing a song to tell children Who REALLY is The One Who knows them, sees them, and cares about them, so I wrote this song, "Who Knows?"

Hi everyone.  After a day when we got to the high 70's today will only be in the 40's.  We had rain all of last evening and it is raining again this morning.  Fortunately it is not cold enough to give us any ice.

We had a lovely Church service yesterday with "Lessons and Carol" being used with nice different reading and a lot of Sacred Christmas music.  It was a long service as it ran over about 15 minutes past our normal time.  Our Chancel Choir, the Bells and the primary age children's choir sang along with a several instrumental accompaniments.

The only thing on the schedule for today is my Monday noon meeting.  We are having a briefer meeting today with a social occasion afterwards with finger foods.

Janet, sure hope you have no broken pipes as you have experienced that too much.  Thanks for the info on the 5th wheeler.  I expect you had mentioned it at the time but I just didn't remember the circumstances.  The fine added insult to injury.  I hope the young man fixes it up and enjoys having it.   I just viewed the pictures that Jeanne posted for you.  You are such a wonderful artist and I also enjoyed seeing the pictures of you, Beth, John and the other folks pictured.  Thanks for sharing them and thank you Jeanne for posting them.

Judith, I have been missing your postings but appreciate the new graphic that Pat posted.

Cold here too at 38° right now. Going to the Chiropractor at 10, Freckles will be going with me.  I will be starting back at the gym next month when my medicare advantage policy kicks in, the silver and Fit program is only accepted at one gym in the area, it is a women's only gym.

Yesterday was the December potluck at church. I really don't like that I have gained a few lbs more than I find acceptable. I definitel.yh will be cutting out desserts and watching what I am eating and the caloric in take.

The cold weather blast is terrible for everyone isn't it?. I just hope the weather is good for my drive south., not that far south either the weather is the same there as here.

Hi, friends,

I was at the foot doctor today and am rejoicing that in 3 weeks I can wear my shoe again, and that the infection is well.

It was a very cold day today, so I got as much done as I could just in case it continues to be very cold.

Our family had our Christmas gathering last Saturday. It was wonderful to see everyone, and to enjoy the good food.

Y'all have a good day with our Lord.

Ruth Ann

Well, it was ONLY -10 this morning!  And praise God, none of our pipes burst!  I am so very thankful for that!

Larry, thanks so much for the nice comments on the photos.  Jeanne, a million thanks to you for posting them!  You two are so special, and I appreciate you so much for all you do to keep our site running.  Pat, I do hope you can find some answers for your pain and that you can get off the prednisone soon.  Have you researched the Paleo diet?  I have been reading some on it, and they claim it helps with many physical problems.  I just so want you to be well and able to enjoy your life again.  Love you!

I went to school this morning, and read my book Wheelie and Runt to six classes of third graders.  They doubled up into three classrooms.  That a lot of kids!  They were so attentive and seemed to really appreciate my coming.  The teachers projected the illustrations in the book on a screen so they could all see them as I read.  I gave them time to ask some questions, and they had some good ones!  Then they all thanked me and applauded.  Sweet!

After I got home, Darrel and I went to Hugoton to listen to Lexi and Chelsea play in their piano recital.  They did well.  Then to Liberal for hearing aid repairs and some shopping--then back to Moscow for the little girls' Christmas program, so we had a full and busy day.

Now I hear my pillow calling!   So I will say,  Good night!  Sweet dreams!

Hi everyone.  We had a very chilly and damp day yesterday with the temperatures in the 40's.  It looks like today will also be in the 40's with no chance of further rain today.  Pat was able to get an appointment with the PA at our Primary Care Doctor's Office for 10 am today.  Her toe apparently is feeling just a little bit better but the side of her foot is still swollen and hot.  There is nothing else on the schedule for today.  We had a nice little party after our meeting yesterday.  The dish I had taken full of peanut clusters came home empty and several asked for the recipe.  I did fry chicken last evening for our dinner and that was a first for me and I sure made a greasy mess on the stove.  I told Pat that in the future I would be preparing chicken baked or in the crock pot and when she wants fried chicken I will get it and bring it home, which I often do.

Marilyn, you have the will power so I know you will take off those extra pounds and getting back to the gym should help.

Ruth Ann, I am sure you will be counting the days soon so you can wear a shoe again.  Certainly glad the infection is well as know that is difficult to stop for a diabetic.  Will you be having a Christmas Day all by yourself?

Janet, good news on your pipes not bursting.  I bet that was a joy to go and read your book to the third graders.  It is nice that you can participate in the activities of your great grandchildren and they will never forget you were there for them.  I still remember playing in the annual piano recital.  It was a nervous time.  You did have a busy day.

Carol

It has been freezing a few nights here in Arizona and that plays havoc with the fruit trees.

Giving thanks - Don fell on his side while cleaning a window from the outside of the house.  He came in and said he feels OK, gave him some gatorade and he is going to rest a while.

Larry:  Don really like the sausage and egg recipe - I froze 12 and he takes one at a time.  I also made whole grain pancakes and froze the lot so he could have an almost instant meal when needed.  So sorry that Pat has pain from gout.  We have always heard that gout is very painful - I hope she finds something to help.

Ruth Ann:  Wonderful news that you can put your shoe on again.  Sometimes we take things for granted - an early Christmas present for you, for sure.

Janet:  Extra prayer for Beth.

We would be packing and going in the two cars to Colorado tomorrow but scotched that idea and so glad.  Feeling terribly sad about not cooking for the family and our normal activities but it is good that Don is here and he can continue the regular exercise - and he has appointments he should not miss.  We had great news from the VA and that is they are replacing a hearing aid he lost without a cost to us.  Thanks be!!!

I just finished cutting fabric and it was very tricky but that part of the project is over.

Thanks ever so much to CP - you have me on track again!!!  I could not get in as the message was to reset my password.  Well, it worked.  Thanks for all you do!!! :-*

We are enjoying an "almost balmy" 48* here in our corner of Kansas today!  Nice!  We went to the gym and our focus this morning on our own, as Kristi needed some days off--was on stretches to help relieve pain in certain areas.  We both felt better.......until we came home and did some heavy lifting and other stuff (such as shoveling snow off the driveway for me) that we shouldn't be doing.  Now the ouchies are back, but when there is nobody else to do the work, we just do it.  :-\  I know one of these days we will have to be  more careful.  So, Carol, I understand what you are talking about, too.  So glad Don wasn't hurt when he fell!

Darrel and I took the bedroom heater off the wall and into the garage, so he could take it apart and blow it out, as it hasn't been working for about three weeks.  Then he started working on assembling the new garage door.  It now takes both of us to open the one we have--one to push the button on the opener and the other to lift on the door until it gets up about two feet, otherwise, it sticks and stops about a foot off the floor.  Ah, the fun we have!!  ;)

Larry, when Darrel fries chicken, he makes a greasy mess of the stove, too.  I just clean it up without comment, as I do so appreciate his cooking.  Now, years ago, before I learned (somewhat, at least) to control my tongue, it might have been very different!  God is so good to help our loved ones forgive us until we grow up some and learn to guard our mouths!  I'm sure I was probably hard to live with years ago!
I know this is likely not comparable to you and Pat; it just reminded me of the way we were and the way we are now!  God is so good!

Ruth Ann, so happy your foot is healing nicely!  Praise God!

Have any of you besides Jeanne and Larry seen the photos Jeanne posted for me?  Just wondering!

Hi everyone.  We woke up to a foggy and chilly morning with the temperature in the high 30's.  It will not get very warm all day.  This should be a pretty laid back day.  Scott will be with us later this afternoon and we plan on going to Tin Lizzy's for a late lunch/early dinner so I won't have to cook today.

Pat did get in to see the doctor's PA yesterday morning and now has some medicine for the gout.  She said her foot was feeling better this morning so hopefully the pain in her toe will soon be a thing in the past.

Carol, sorry to see that Don had fallen.  I wonder if he had the same experience I did a couple of years ago after standing at the fence talking with my neighbor I turned my body to start to walk and my legs didn't turn and I fell on my side with no damage done.  Fortunately it was grassy where I fell.  I guess I had my knees locked for too long while visiting.  Glad Don is enjoying the sausage muffins.  Did you use flour in place of the protein powder?  After all these years of making my own lunch I finally wised up and have started making three sandwiches at a time so I have them prepared for the next two days as well, which makes for putting together a quick lunch.  I also cut up two apples into pieces and can have pieces of apple for several days.  They keep will in the fruit tray of the refrigerator in a sealed plastic bag.  It sounds like staying in Arizona is a good idea for you two this year.  Things change with time and as we age and we have to adjust.  Sure glad you were able to get back on CP.

Janet, it sounds like you about did yourself in shoveling snow.  It sounds like you could have used another trip to the gym.  :tiredtread:  Home ownership sure isn't for sissies as it seems there is always something going wrong and needing repair.  I told Pat that in the future if I am cooking it will be chicken baked or fixed in the crock pot and when she wants fried chicken I will just pick some up at Bojangles or somewhere else.

Hi everyone.  It looks like it will be a nice day starting out about 42 but suppose to go up to around 66 degrees this afternoon with no chance of rain.  I only got about 3 hours of sleep last night as could never go back to sleep after Pat came to bed.  This is going to be a busy morning as will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  I will take him back home and then go back downtown for our Wisdom Group.  When that is over I will go to Aldi's for a few items and then go to Walmart to pick up another small online order. Finally I have one other stop planned before coming home to get the air checked in my tires as the gauge shows a low tire.   Scott really enjoyed his meal with us at Tin Lizzy's late yesterday afternoon.  He had been called into work for a short time at the lunch period and then went home and fell asleep.  When we got home we visited for a couple of hours and then he headed back home as was tired.

Marilyn, pretty Merry Christmas card but not sure what the names of the pets are other than Freckles.

Marilyn

Good Morning Freckles and I had two visit assignments yesterday and a meeting  for  a Hospice Conference,. Every two weeks   I have to attend a meeting  to report in person on my Hospice client from the way our visits go and heart the assessment of his condition from the  other members of  the team. I al,so do a written report after every visit.

I am thinking that I will  make the french bread today and put together the manicotti dish for Christmas eve  supper in  Ca. Then I will have all day tomorrow to do the last minute things and load the car, get it arranges so everything fits in neatly so it won't be sliding around as we go down the road. It has been copld enough that I can even load the food tomorrow.

A friend gave me a cute nice warm coat for Freckles  and also a rain cost for her. One of the other Furry Friend members gave it to her for her pit bull but he is too big so she gave it to me after asking the friend if it would be ok to give it to Freckles.

Larry the cats names are Fritzy, Harry and Buddy, As of two days ago one of the neighbors cats ( she has 3 more never allows them in  the house, even in this colder weather) has decided to live here his name is Shadow and is solid black not one white hair on him.

We are getting moisture in the form of intermittent snow and rain.  We will take it in whatever form, just prefer it not be ice!

We went to the gym this morning, the last day before the Christmas break.  We both needed it, as we have done a bit too much heavy lifting and moving stuff this week.  I called my buddy, Dee, and met her and her husband for lunch at Pizza Hut, then went to the grocery store for a few items to make the dishes Diane asked me to bring for Sunday night.  While there, John called to tell me the Care Home Christmas party with Santa was to be at 2:00; so instead of driving back home, I went up there.  And isn't this all just fascinating?

Both of our recliners were getting in pretty bad shape, so we bought two new ones.  Our furniture store had them on sale for bargain prices, as they were "last year's models" and he wanted to move them.  We got one home, Curtis was here to unload it for us; but he had to leave.  Then we went back and got the other one, which is wrapped up in plastic and still in the back of the pickup, in the garage, waiting for Curtis to come tomorrow and unload it for us.  He said, "Ad you two don't even think about trying to do it yourselves!!   :)  Love those grandkids!

Marilyn, where do Freckles and the cats stay while you are away?

I bought two books by Nicholas Sparks and Richard Paul Evans, two of my favorite authors, for Diane and Abby for Christmas.  I want to read them, so must decide if I have time before Sunday, or whether I will need to borrow them back!  ;)  Abby has agreed to take Kerri's gifts to her as she goes back to college.  She goes right through Salina on her way.

Tomorrow is Maxine's 100th birthday party!  Her birthday is actually on the 24th.

Larry, I hope you don't do too much today and get overtired.  When you have time, would you forward me the sausage muffin recipe?  Those sound good.  Thanks!

Hello to the rest of you out there, wherever you are!  And Merry Christmas, if you peek in!

Thanks for the pretty Christmas greeting, Marilyn!

Janet Freckles is going with us since she is also m y service dog she stays free at the lodging. Unless we are going to Sunriver timeshare, where she is not allowed, then she stays with another of the Furry Friends members. The cats for just the 2½ day will stay here I p;ut lots of  their dry food out for them in a big 9X13 pan  there are 3 ;litter  boxes for them to choose from. Otherwise one of the neighbors comes in to feed and water them let them out and back in again.

I have made the french bread, stuffed the manicotti noodles and have the pan ready to put in  the oven when we get tro Gilbert's house. I was so busy with that I forgot to thaw out something for supper so it looks like we will be having sandwiches tonight.

I will be starting back to the gym nexth month. Yay I am so glad of that.

It is another beautiful sunny morning here in South Carolina.  Yesterday was great as it got into the mid-60's with no wind so was quite comfortable outside. Today we will only get into the mid-50's but no complaints.

I was very tired last night after only getting three hours of sleep on Wednesday night and then having a very busy day yesterday that I didn't wake up this morning until after 8 am.  Sleeping in is something I very seldom do.  I plan on a much quieter day and staying at home.

I am trying to use the Windows Movie Maker on the videos of the Christmas Concert I took a few days ago as a lady from Church, who missed the concert, called and asked if I could share them with her.  I have never used the application before so there is a learning curve involved.

Marilyn, thanks for the names of the pets.  It sounds like you have had plenty to keep you busy.

Janet, I am sure you will enjoy your new recliners.  Are they are matching set?  Nice of Curtis to do the heavy lifting on them.  I emailed you the Sausage Muffin recipe this morning.

Janet

Yes, Larry, the chairs match, but are a bit different in size, so his has a taller back; better fit for him.

Glad you planned to stay in and not do so much today.  And thanks for the recipe!!

We attended my friend Maxine's 100th birthday party today.  Her daughters really had it decorated pretty, and had gotten Maxine a new outfit, had her hair done, and she was wearing a tiara!  There was a good attendance, and I was pleased about that.

It warmed up to 38* today, and almost all of our snow melted.  Now they predict thunderstorms for Christmas day!!  We shall see.  ::)

We stayed up to watch Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors, and it's a really good movie.  Now I'm going to bed!  See you tomorrow, probably.   :)

Hi everyone on a beautiful Christmas Eve morning here in South Carolina.  It started out at 53 degrees around 7:30 this morning and headed to 68 degrees this afternoon and only getting down to 50 degrees tonight.

I made a quick trip to Walmart before 8 am this morning for a few items in the grocery department.  I wanted rolls for our ham sandwiches and found some that looked delicious only to find out when I got home they were more like dinner rolls but they are going to have to do.  I got there before 8 am and by the time I left about 15 minutes later people were beginning to pour into the store.  Today I will prepare or help Pat prepare a few things for our dinner tomorrow.  I know she plans on baking a pumpkin pie for Scott and I got things to make my favorite holiday 5 cup salad.

I have about decided not to attend the Candlelight service at Church this evening as there will be a large crowd and parking will be a problem unless I go very early.  If I don't go I will attend the Christmas service tomorrow.

Janet, it sounds like everyone had an enjoyable party yesterday for the 100 year old lady.  Nice that you could attend.  Was Beth up to attending?  It is nice they had different sized easy chairs that matched.  Enjoy them and it is a nice Christmas present that you will use for a long time.

Angels From the Realms of Glory
(Click to hear music)

"A great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.'" Luke 2:13-14

Words: James Montgomery, in his Sheffield newspaper, Iris, Christmas Eve, 1816. It was published again in Christian Psalmist, 1825. Stanza 5 is from The Christmas Box, 1825

Music: "Regent Square," Henry T. Smart, in Psalms and Hymns for Divine Worship (London: 1867)

Angels from the realms of glory,
Wing your flight o'er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation's story
Now proclaim Messiah's birth.

Refrain
Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Shepherds, in the field abiding,
Watching o'er your flocks by night,
God with us is now residing;
Yonder shines the infant light:

Refrain

Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great Desire of nations;
Ye have seen His natal star.

Refrain

Saints, before the altar bending,
Watching long in hope and fear;
Suddenly the Lord, descending,
In His temple shall appear.

Refrain

Sinners, wrung with true repentance,
Doomed for guilt to endless pains,
Justice now revokes the sentence,
Mercy calls you; break your chains.

Refrain

Though an Infant now we view Him,
He shall fill His Father's throne,
Gather all the nations to Him;
Every knee shall then bow down:

Refrain

All creation, join in praising
God, the Father, Spirit, Son,
Evermore your voices raising
To th'eternal Three in One.

Refrain

A friend just sent this to me and I think it is very appropriate for the time of the year as well as interesting:

MAGNIFICENT LYRICS AT CHRISTMAS

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:10-11

Every Christmas Eve service, the members of our church are blessed to hear our Worship Pastor sing "O Holy Night." This has become such a tradition at our church that the thought of a Christmas Eve service without it is, well, hard to imagine!

Here are some interesting tidbits:

On Christmas Eve in 1906, Reginald Fessenden, broadcast the first radio program, where he played "O Holy Night" on the violin. Therefore, the carol is the first piece of music to be broadcast on radio.
"O Holy Night" ("Cantique de Noël") was set to music by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the lyrics of a French poem written by Placide Cappeau, a wine merchant and poet. Cappeau had been asked to write a Christmas poem by a parish priest.
And here is something I've never been able to figure out. Since "O Holy Night" was composed in French, why does the English translation rhyme?
The music is so overpowering in its beauty that we sometimes fail to notice the perfection of the lyrics. Read these lyrics, a magnificent poem, and contemplate the wonder and blessing of Jesus' birth.

Oh holy night! The stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of our dear Savior's birth.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

Till He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angels' voices!

Oh night divine, Oh night when Christ was born;

Oh night divine, Oh night, Oh night Divine.

Carol

Many thanks for the sites on Christmas music.

Here, I am quietly getting some things done and took a break to wish everyone a wonderful, peaceful Christmas.

Don is napping early today - he did not feel well this morning while we went out for coffee, so I drove back to the house and we shall see if he gets better.  We do plan on going to the 5 PM service today but all will depend on whether Don feels well enough.  I have to make a dish for a neighbor's gathering tomorrow.  Wishing we were not going at all - she said 6 at the most and when I last talked with her, there will be 14.  Of course, Don's hearing aids have not arrived and he won't understand one word with all those people.

It is sunny and windy today in Arizona.  All our children are in Colorado and many are going to enjoy winter sports this weekend.  We will put together a family SKYPE call most likely tomorrow.

A blessed Christmas Eve to everyone!

Janet

Larry, we went to the grocery store today too and it was packed with people!  Darrel had to go back for some Cool Whip for me because what I had had mold on it, and he said it was just as full this evening.  It's disappointing when you buy something, then when you get home, it's not what you thought it was.  :-\

I enjoyed the story about Oh Holy Night, one of my favorite songs.  There are so many good ones!  Thanks for sharing it.

Carol, sorry Don isn't feeling up to par.  It's hard to slow down and not be able to do the things we've always done.  I think most of us in here are facing similar situations.

Beth and John came out for an early supper and to open gifts with us; she was so tired and wanted to go home and rest for at least an hour before the candlelight service at church.

Jeanne, pretty graphic and song, thank you.

I must go check my hair and makeup; almost time to go to church!  Merry Christmas, all of you lovely and loved people!

Merry Christmas to you all.  We are going to have a beautiful day here with a sunny sky and temperatures getting up to 70 degrees this afternoon.  I will attend the 11 am service at Church this morning (there is no Sunday School today).  Scott will be here later this afternoon for our Christmas dinner and small gift exchange.  I did complete my project of getting the Christmas Concert that I recorded converted into an MP4 file format and put together and onto a DVD to give to the lady at Church who requested it.

Janet

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!  I hope you are all enjoying some time with, or at least calls from your loved ones today!

This was our first time to attend the Christmas Eve candlelight service at the Methodist Church, and I was really surprised!  I went thinking there would probably be a very small crowd, but the church was packed!!  Even the pews in the very back and the balcony!  WOW!  And what a beautiful service (even from the very front row, where we sat!)  ;)  Next year, we know to go at least 30 minutes early!  :)

Beth and John didn't come this morning, he said she was tired and didn't want to.  But they will be at the family gathering later in Hugoton at her sister Diane's house.  They did attend last night.

AND......We had a lovely RAIN this morning!  The wind hit and blew very hard for a while (70 MPH) and then it let up some and the rain came---very hard and fast!  It only rained for a few minutes, but we got quite a lot, ad are so thankful!  I can't remember ever having rain on Christmas day before!  When we went to church, it was really nice; when we came out the wind was blowing hard again.  Hope it stops and doesn't dry things out again!

They had asked us to (each family) bring a dozen cookies this morning.  They said it would be a surprise what we would do with them.  They told us to keep them with us until the end of the service; then we brought them to the front, where there was a table with pretty boxes with signs in front of each with the names of the businesses in town where employees had to work today.  We set our cookies in or behind the ones we wanted the cookies taken to for those employees!  Nice!  They had volunteers who delivered the cookies.  Just a way to show God's love to those around us, in practical ways.

I'll stop now, before this becomes a book.  Have a God-blessed Jesus birthday!

I would like to wish everyone in CP land a very Merry Christmas and hope you all have a blessed day with family and friends. I just got back from the snow plow. Got called out this morning to clear some snow from an unexpected squall. Sun is shining now so should be good for the rest of the day.

What Child Is This?
(Click to hear music)

Words: William C. Dix, The Manger Throne, 1865.

Music: "Greensleeves," 16th Century English melody

What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise a song on high,
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Jane Walker

Our Merry Christmas is coming to a close but I have something to share with y'all.
My daughter had her girls and (some of) her grandkids at her house today.  She made lasagna, she said.  I was supposed to go with Nita to her daughter's for dinner, but Nita hurt her back again so had to stay home with her heating pad instead.  I took some of the food I had cooked over to her and we had a nice visit.  I don't do lots of people (and exuberant kids) too well anyway.  When I got back home, I saw a post on FaceBook from my granddaughter Becky.  I have to share it with you....

This morning I greeted my downstairs neighbor with a Merry Christmas as he was on his way to church. He started to get in his car and then turned around and gave me a small care package to give to a homeless person on my travels today. It was a bottle of water, a new pair of socks, and a pack of crackers. I took it inside and told Karmen what it was for. She insisted we put a couple dollars in it. She didn't stop there. It wasn't enough she said. We added a blanket, a deck of cards, a washcloth, chips, a juice box, and more. We drove by a woman right down the street from home and pulled over. I let Karmen take the package out to the woman and tell her Merry Christmas. The lady turned around with the most sincere smile.
As we got back on the road I told Karmen how proud I was of her and I started to cry. When she asked why I was crying, I told her how that was once me sitting on the curb, cold and lonely without a place to be. She has a heart of gold and told me how happy it made her to do something for someone who has less than us. She might not listen or behave like she should but I cannot deny her spirit. Anyone that comes over knows how she always offers her piggy bank up, thinking that others need money more than her. I'm so proud of my little girl.
Please remember what today is about. Love, giving, appreciation, and kindness. If you can help someone less fortunate than most today. Do it. Save a plate. Give something that will help someone stay warm and comfortable. Trust me you won't regret it. Teach our children what it feels like to do something nice for others
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
"Do good, not for fear of consequences, but because its the right thing to do"
-David L. Kelly

The quote is from her dad.  Something he always said to his girls.

Becky said on her way home from her mom's she saw the same homeless lady in the same spot, but she was eating and playing a game.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Hi everyone on this first day after Christmas.  Yesterday we enjoyed a 73 degree day with sun for most of the day.  Today is to be cloudy but still warm.

We had a very enjoyable Christmas afternoon and evening with Scott. We had a nice dinner around 3 pm,  rested until around 8 pm and then had a piece of pie and opened our presents.  Santa was very good to me this year with some shirts, a nice gift card at Amazon and my SIL sent me two interesting gifts.  The first was four little boxes that contained "Inkers" that you use to line out personal information on documents.  The second was a device to clean your cell phone surface by putting it in the case and a UV  light kills germs. It is called Phonesoap. Here is the link to a video showing what it does:  https://www.phonesoap.com/phonesoap-videos/

We got to say Merry Christmas to our Granddaughter as she was speaking with her Dad.  She will be coming to live with him this week as on Wednesday evening he flies to upstate New York and they will fly back on Thursday.  We will be happy to see her again as had thought that probably wasn't going to happen again in our lifetime.

Janet, apparently our Methodist Church was packed on Saturday evening for the candle light service.  I did not attend but have attended other services of this type in years past.  I did attend church yesterday and the church certainly wasn't packed but understand that was expected since it was Christmas Day. It was a very informal service yesterday with the congregation asked to pick out several hymns and carols that they wanted to sing, a longer than usual Children's Sermon and then a relatively short sermon.  There was no problem parking yesterday although I went a little early in case there would be.  You were close to hurricane force winds yesterday but hope there was no major damage.  I was watching some of the Kansas City Chiefs football game played in Kansas City last night and it was raining there.  What a nice gesture that your Church did to provide cookies to the businesses in town where the employees had to work yesterday.

John, it sounds like the snow plowing is keeping you pretty busy up your way.  Sure glad you didn't need to be out all day long.

Jeanne, thanks for posting the Christmas Carol for us.  That is one of my favorites.

Jane, sorry to read that Nita has hurt her back again.  Nice of you to share what you had prepared with her.  Lovely story that your granddaughter relayed.

JudyB

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

John is out sanding and salt his span of roads. there are many road closures due to the ice storm that is affecting the whole province.  The truck I drive only plows, so i am home.

Have a safe holiday season, and if the roads are bad stay put till they clear!

Jeanne Lee

How lovely to see posts today from Jane and Judy, in addition to Larry's news.

Jane, what a beautiful story from Becky.  I'm sorry to hear that Nita is having back trouble.  Please tell her she's in the prayers of her friends.

Judy, great to have a message from you.  You are missed and it is always good to see your name come up.  I hope you had a lovely Christmas and that your winter isn't too severe this year.

I've been well fed by my neighbors, with a full dinner plate and all kinds of extra goodies, as well as some Avon products.  And of course, phone calls from my kids made the day shine.  The only dark spot is that my daughter-in-law in Arizona is in the hospital and wasn't able to enjoy the excitement of her two-year-old grandsons.  Please continue your prayers for her.

Today I received this devotional from the late Adrian Rogers and felt I should share it with you:

Anticipation of an Even Greater Day

BIBLE MEDITATION:
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:3

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

It's the day after Christmas. The glow on the tree is just a little dimmer because the anticipation of the day is now past. Ever feel that way about your walk with the Lord? Well, let me give you some good news, my friend. The best is yet to be!

That's right. Christmas Day is past, but Resurrection Day is coming soon, and I don't mean Easter. I mean the Second Coming of Our Lord is imminently on the horizon.

He is coming again. And that's not just "a nice thing;" that's a rock-ribbed truth! Jesus is coming again!

ACTION POINT:

Write down John 14:3 on a little note, and as you say goodbye to family and friends, give them this note of encouragement.

We tried to attend the 5 PM Eve service but a wild wind and rainstorm hit the area.  Enough that we did not want to venture out.  However, we did have SKYPE on and connected with all the family members - some in heavy snow areas.  Last evening was spent at a neighbor's house and Don was able to hear two dinner partners well as they had clear speech and loud enough voices - I was so happy that he could talk to two of the 14 people.  Hearing aids, come quickly please - no mail today, of course.

Janet:  How nice that Beth felt well enough to come to your home.

John B:   - stay safe in your driving and plowing.

Jane:  What a wonderful story.  It shows that the smallest gift can mean so much to someone.  A kind act.

I made three more batches of cranberry walnut biscotti and intend to bag most of it for little gifts to neighbors.  It is always baked twice - first in the log form then cooled and sliced and baked thoroughly so they are crisp.

Always thankful for a peaceful Christmas.

Hi everyone on a foggy but reasonable warm morning here in South Carolina.  We are predicted to reach 70 degrees this afternoon.  I really had a good nights sleep last night and didn't get up this morning until 8 am.  Pat was already up and fixed her own breakfast.

Today I will probably go over to COSTCO as Pat is about out of strawberries, which she likes to have for her breakfast.  I also need to go to Lowe's and purchase some new light bulbs.  Pat is going to try to get into see the Chiropractor today and I think we will eat our big meal out as she hasn't been out of the house since last Wednesday.  I also need to call Comcast about getting new rate for my Internet.  This is a job that I detest and have put it off about as long as possible. I don't know why I dislike this so much as almost always end up with nice people to deal with.

Judy, nice to see your posting and glad you can stay in off the ice up your way.  I hope you and John had a nice Christmas.

Jeanne, nice to see that your neighbor's took care to be sure you had a full dinner plate and gifts.  I am sure your phone calls from your kids was the highlight of your day.  Sorry to hear of your DIL being in the hospital and hope it isn't too serious.  Does she have twin grandsons?  Two is a great age for the excitement of Christmas.  Thanks for the Adrian Rogers devotional.

Carol, nice to see you were able to attend the event with your neighbors and that Don was able to participate and enjoy the evening.  I am not sure I have ever eaten biscotti but probably have tasted it on a dessert tray at some function and not realized what it was called.  It does sound good.

Pat

I was just here sitting quietly and thinking about what the New Year had in store for me and I just read this devotional email from Joni & Friends and thought I'd share it with you all.  It certainly blessed my heart and soul as I read it.

Inward Pain
by Joni Eareckson Tada

"A man's spirit sustains him in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?" Proverbs 18:14

Which pain is worse, emotional or physical?  Like you, I've faced both kinds: crushing physical pain with no position in which I can get comfortable; crushing heartache in which my head spins with grief, and I can't stop the tears.

Physical pain is curious.  You can almost distract yourself from it.  Sometimes you can push physical pain right out of your thoughts by crowding your time and attention with other things.  Even in a wheelchair, I've devised clever ways to forget about my paralysis.

Ah, but inside suffering, that's another matter.  You can't put mental anguish or heartache behind you.  Those hurts create an emptiness that refuses to be pushed or crowded out of your thoughts.  It bites.  Gnaws.  Grinds away at your sanity.

You've felt that way.  Your heart has been stomped on; your feelings have been trampled.  A slandered reputation... a love relationship spurned... painful memories of abuse.  Yes, I'm convinced emotional pain is much worse than physical pain.  But I'm also convinced it does something to our heart that physical pain often can't.  Inner anguish melts the heart, making our souls pliable and bendable.  Because we can't drive it from our thoughts, it forces us to embrace Him out of desperate, urgent need.

Think about the ways in which God says He will take care of inner anguish.  He proclaims He holds you in the palm of His hand; He hides you in the cleft of His rock; He carries you in His bosom.  He sustains you with His grace; He sets your feet on a high place; He shelters you underneath His wings.  God is never closer than when your heart is aching.  Read the Psalms until you find one that reminds you of God's presence in your anguish.

Praise be to You, the Father of all compassion and the God of all comfort.  You heal our hearts; You are the prescription for pain.  I come to You today with my urgent need.  Thank You that You've promised You will be there to catch me.

Blessings,

Joni and Friends

Pat, thank you for sharing Joni's words with us today.  In her pain and disability, she has become so tender and wise, by living in constant dependence on our loving Lord.  And I pray you, my dear friend, are feeling very, very close to Him today, too.

Carol, good to read your happy and grateful words today, and so glad Don was able to enjoy the conversation.  We had horrible winds here on Sunday, so much so that I called John and asked him not to bring Beth to Hugoton, as we worried about the high-profile van; also about getting Beth out in that wind.  Her blankets would have blown off and maybe got her chilled.  They weren't really disappointed not to come, as she wasn't feeling up to getting out, anyway.  God always works things out, if we just stay pliable and patient.

Larry, I hope you got the Comcast problem worked out without too much hassle.  I am having problems with Amazon.  I ordered two orders, supposed to get two day delivery--and they canceled them both, with no notice received by me.  They were trying to use the wrong credit card.  I have been having problems with them for over six months now.  Ach!! :ticked:

I have an eye appointment at 2:00.  It's time for my checkup, and I've been having a few problems seeing, especially in certain environments.

Jeanne, thanks for the meditation you shared.  How I look forward to that glorious day when our JESUS returns!!  What a day that will be!

It is always so comforting to come here and read the sweet words of trust and obey.  Very thankful for so much!!

Hi everyone on another overcast but relatively warm morning and we are headed up to 68 degrees this afternoon.  I did make it to COSTCO to pick up the strawberries for Pat.  I got there early and it wasn't crowded and it only took me probably 15 minutes in the store.  Pat and I did go out for dinner last evening and when we got home I watched one of the football bowl games.  This is the season for many bowl games from now until after the first of the year.  I slept in again this morning and Pat had fixed her own breakfast by the time I got up.  She was in a lot of pain when she got up.  I don't plan to go anywhere today but rather after I finish the message boards I am going to do some cooking in preparation for our dinner tonight.  I always have more energy in the mornings than the afternoons.  We have some roast thawing out which we will fix in the crock pot adding some vegetables later.  I plan on fixing some green beans to heat up to go with dinner.  I may make some more sausage muffins for Pat.  It all depends on my energy level.

Yesterday I did call Comcast and found my current plan is good until April 24 of next year.  So I will call back a few days before then to talk about a new plan.  During the next few days, before th beginning of the year, I want to get things ready for next year here in my office, which means sorting through papers and preparing files for next year.

Pat, I think Joni has it right.  Thank for sharing her piece with us. I do hope you are beginning to feel better.  You certainly know about pain of both types as I suppose most, if not all, of us do at our ages.

Janet, you all were wise to insure that Beth stayed in where it was warm and where they were safe.  No problem with Comcast yesterday and had a very pleasant lady helping me and advising when to call back.  Sorry you have had problems with Amazon.  I read yesterday that they shipped over 1 Billion packages over the holiday season.  I wonder why you didn't get notice immediately about the credit card.  I hope you get it straitened out. We have had no problems with them.

Carol, your comment reminds me of that old hymn, Trust and Obey, for there's no other way...

Good Morning I had several days to catch up with all y'all. We left Saturday for California. We stayed at the Ramada inn. Well we slept there anyway. Most of the time we were at Gilbert's house, where we had a wonderful time of conversation and  family time. On Sunday we went back to Gilbert's for more family time and good food. Monday  we got back on the road to head for home but first we stopped in McKinleyville  for a brief visit with Bill who lives across the street from  where I lived. Then we went on to Willa's house  and stayed there for about an hour. She is 90 now and has some dementia. She didn't remember Keith but she definitely  knows who I am. Freckles made the trip with us.

I had laundry to do when we got home, baked a carrot cake for Keith yesterday and since the rain had stopped I got out to walk with Freckles a couple of times. Everything here is back to normal. I got the part to fix my bread machine now waiting for Keith to  put it in. I tried to break loose the screw but couldn't do it, could be that it need some soaking with WD-40 to loosen them.

We are waiting for delivery men to bring the new adjustable bed.  We already moved the queen size bed out of the other bedroom, into the garage, and got the king size one stripped and ready.  Will have them move it in where the queen was.  Then we will have three king sized beds here!  I just realized that!  :o  I think this will likely be the last new bed we will purchase.  The sheets I ordered for it (from Amazon) haven't come.  It needs extra long twin size fitted sheets.  Guess we will use queen size flat ones until that Amazon order arrives---if it ever does!  I re-ordered, and made sure the right card was ticked, so I hope it comes this time!  ???

They were to be here between 4 and 5, and it's nearly five now!  Sigh.  There goes supper!

Marilyn, glad you had a nice visit, and got to see friends in McKinleyville too.  I always have laundry to do after being away, but I guess we all do.  Laundry is one chore I do not mind at all.

Larry, glad your call to Comcast wasn't stressful, and hope the next one will not be, either.

All you missing ones--we love you and miss you!  Please come back and chat with us!

Hi everyone.  We awoke to a rainy morning but it is suppose to be gone around 11 this morning.  The moisture is welcome.  There is a wind advisory out for us today.

Yesterday was an interesting day.  I got a lot done yesterday morning including the cooking projects I had on the schedule.  Pat did get in to see the chiropractor about 4 pm yesterday and I went to Aldi's, where everything was very much picked over and some of the produce items I wanted were out of stock.  I will stop there again this morning after coffee to see if they have restocked as the cashier told me the restock items were coming in this morning.  I only have coffee this morning as our Wisdom group is not meeting because the minister is out of the office today.  We are fixing a roast in the crock pot for our dinner tonight and the meat is ready as are the vegetables.  So I look forward to a laid back day.  I am sure I will watch some football before the day is over as South Carolina plays at 2 pm and then Virginia Tech plays a little before six.

While I was at Aldi's yesterday Scott called me to say his flight from Augusta had been cancelled due to staffing problems.  That was going to mess everything up in terms of his flight back this morning, the car rental and whether he could get a re-ticketing or would we lose the expensive fare for the return ticket. However, about an hour later he texts us and says they have him on another flight leaving 30 minutes earlier than he originally expected.  He did make it to Albany, NY, and we had another text from him early this morning saying they were at the Albany airport and their plane back was on time.  So it appears all has worked out for which we all are very thankful.  I look forward to seeing our Granddaughter, whom we haven't seen for probably 7 or 8 years.

Marilyn, glad to read you have a good trip to California and your time with your son and his family and also seeing other friends on your way home.  Did Freckles enjoy the trip?

Janet, hope you got the new bed and had a good nights sleep on it.  When we got the adjustable bed Pat was told she needed to get extra long top sheets.  I don't know why as they are way too long and a lot of the sheet has to be tucked in at the foot of the bed.  I hope that will not be your experience.  You have us beat by one king size bed as we only have two with one of them in the guest bedroom.

Well, our latest winter storm is under way.  We're told to expect from 2" to 12".  Unless we get more.  Or unless we get less.  :o

Hi everyone.  We have a bright and sunny morning that starts for me at 44 degrees headed into the low 50's for later today.

The good news yesterday was that Scott and his daughter, Jennifer, arrived safely and on time yesterday afternoon back here in Augusta.  We invited them out to dinner last evening but they were so tired from the trip that they declined.  This was understandable as Scott said he had been awake since 1 pm on Wednesday and it had been a lot of flying and uncertainty.

The housekeeper will be here later this morning.  I plan no cooking today as we have plenty of left overs from last night for this evening.  I plan on staying home and watching some of the bowl games, including Georgia playing at noon.  I saw two good games yesterday.

Jeanne, I am wondering whether you got the 12" of snow?  You sounded like the weathermen yesterday who most often state there predictions as percentage chances.  That way they can never be really wrong.

Jeanne Lee

No, thankfully it wasn't the full 12 inches of snow, but we did get about five or six inches.  Flurries today and then maybe some slightly warmer temperatures next week that will help melt some of it.  One problem with that, though.  Even if the daytime temps go above freezing, it goes back down into the 20's or lower at night and the roads, etc. where there had been melted snow it turns to ice.  Makes driving and walking a little adventuresome.

Our waiting for the furniture delivery on Wednesday was in vain.  I finally called the store, and she said, "Oh!  Not today!  Tomorrow!"  That was not what she said, but, no real harm done.  They did come yesterday, so we have the bed installed and slept in it last night.  Darrel got the firmer mattress, I got the softer one.  He had a hard time sleeping last night but says he will adjust!  Glad he has about 12 days to get used to it before he has his surgery!

Can you believe all the antics Obama is up to in these (thankfully!) final days of his "Kingship"?  :clobber: :uglystupid:   And he says when they move out of the White House, Micheele wants him to take her on a vacation--and it better be a NICE one, because "she's earned it!"  What planet is she from, anyway?  Are they even home from the latest extravagant vacation yet?  Okay, I'll stop on that.

Jeanne, glad you didn't get the full 12" of white stuff.  Yes, the ice is treacherous for walking or driving.  I hope you have everything you need so you don't have to get out in the snow or on the ice!

Larry, glad Scott and Jennifer got there safely, and hope you have a great visit with her.  It's been too long!  I had planned to go get our three great granddaughters today for an overnight stay, but when I called this morning, their Mom said the youngest, Jenna, still has a cough and runny nose.  We don't dare take any unnecessary chances on Darrel getting a cold or anything right here before his surgery!  So maybe Sunday afternoon for the girls.  They don't go back to school until Wednesday.

Marilyn, I went to my eye Doctor on Tuesday and again on Wednesday.  He wanted me to come back so they could take pictures of my eyes, to get a comparison with two years ago on the macular degeneration.  And my vision has actually improved in my right eye, so I am getting only one new lens this time!  I hope you get a good report, too.  I had the cataract surgery some years ago, and later the YAG on both eyes to clear them up.  It took probably an hour and a half for the dilation of my eyes to go away.  It would have passed more quickly, I expect, if I hadn't fallen asleep right after I got home!

Hi everyone.  When I looked at the temperature at about 7 this morning it was 33 degrees but don't think it was that cold here at the house.  We are expecting the mid-50's this afternoon with no rain.  I had a very quiet day yesterday and plan another one for today.  I fixed Pat's breakfast and now will work in my office this morning and plan on watching the college football games today as they start at 11 am the four games will take all day.  I will work a little nap in there somewhere.

Jeanne, the thought of ice outside is frightening to me.  Glad you can stay in and avoid it.

Marilyn, hope your eye appointment showed no new progression of the macular degeneration.

Janet, I hope Darrel adjusts to his new mattress quickly and that you are liking yours.  I love the idea of each person being able to adjust their own side of the bed.  I sleep with my head elevated and Pat usually has her feet elevated and these can easily be adjusted without bothering the other.  You also don't feel it when the other person moves during the night.  Good news about your eye improving as that is usually not the case.

Marilyn

My eye appointment showed no change in the Macular Degeneration, however there is a change in the cataract so I go back in 6 months to check that. I was told to wear good sunglasses and a hat outdoors and to  get some  artificial tears for those times when the floaties are in my eyes. They come from the tear ducts. I didn't know that.

It is very cold here today, there was ice on the streets when we went to Walmart and the temperature will be in the 20's at night. brrrr.

Happy New Year's Eve!!

I didn't expect any deliveries today, but we got one!!  Our sheets for the new bed arrived, so we can  now remake it with the fitted sheets.  After years of using those, we didn't do too well with flat sheets for the bottom ones!  ;)

I took down and put away all the Christmas decorations I had put up, which wasn't very many, this morning.  We plan to go to the Seniors' New Year's Eve dance in Hugoton tonight, so have some food prepared to take for that.  We haven 't danced in many months, maybe since last year at this time!

Larry, our Kansas State team won the Texas Bowl game the other night!!  :D  We went to bed at half time, so didn't see the end, but are happy they won!  I think we will like the adjustable bed, and I'm glad we got it soon enough for Darrel to adjust to it before his surgery.

Marilyn,  I had not heard that floaters come from the tear ducts.  Since those only drain the excess tears, I'm not sure how that is possible.  I never had floaters until I had the cataract surgery, now I do have them, but usually adjust quickly so I don't notice them.  They told me they are tiny bits of "debris" from the surgeries, and nothing can  be done about it. Hmmm......

It's nice here today, but they predict very cold weather for us again Tuesday through Friday.

I need to go see if I have anything "blingy"  to wear tonight!   ;) ;)
