Janet ~ If only the kitchen manager would keep in mind your wants and needs and work around them...days off and not working three days in a row...you probably wouldn't even consider quiting.  This isn't your problem, it is theirs.  If you work another day before Nebraska, I would tell them upon leaving that I told you I will be in Nebraska until so and so and I won't be here to work so find someone else or do it yourself!  I feel they are using you to no end!!

Larry ~ Know that my prayers are for Stacy and Pat and you.  What a trial you all are going through!

Judy B ~  I am praying for Murray and all the family.  Radiation really does a toll on people.

After a busy day yesterday, I hope I can relax some today.  Tomorrow I have to get the car maintained, go with Ivalou to get her pro-time blood work and mow the grass.  Friday is State Fair for Ivalou and I.

Then Saturday is our FROGGS reunion.  Fun!!

So if I am scarce the next few days, you will know why!

Someone asked what Jiggs is. Jiggs is a recipe I think from NewFoundland.   I will try to get the recipe an post it here.

This is a mish mash of stuff put into a single pot and cooked all together,

Roast beef
salt beef
turnip
potato
carrots
an onion
and any othewr veggies you would like
Salt/pepper and spice to taste.

There are no amounts for this, just keep adding until your pot is full.

melody

Judy B -you forgot to add the gravy. Its got to be smothered in gravy to make it complete!! <3
How about that weather thing everyone has at the bottom of there post-does it work for Canada and if so where can I get it?

Pat

I'm in Canada, Melody and I have it.

Just click on my temperature thingy and then put your town and province at the top of Wunderground.com and you'll get the code.  We try to choose the smaller icon if possible.  If you have any trouble, let me know and I'll help you.

When you click on mine, at the top right it says, "Find the Weather for any City, State or ZIP Code, or Airport Code or Country"

Not much new here today. I baked an Apple Crisp  and am doing laundry. Took a shower and shampooed my hair. Bebe is getting a little bit better day by day.

Larry I have put Stacy on the prayer chain and also ask my client to pray for her. So I am praying for  you, Pat and Stacey here.

Janet I still pray for Beth and for you.

Gotta go now and fix my supper.

My this is a slow day today for CP!

I found this update on Ruth Ann on SN.

QuoteMore good news about RUTH ANN!  She and I talked this morning for a long time and she sounded great:  wonderful, strong tone of voice, lots of humor and laughter as she told me about some of her "exploits" in the facility to which she transferred last weekend, the continued visits of friends and family, and the absolutely gorgeous environment in which she is recuperating.

About the latter, Ruth Ann described the facility as decorated in the manor of elegance - long marble hallways, windows covered by elegant drapes hung over bright white lace curtains, dining rooms furnished with traditional long white tablecloths, napkins, beautiful stemware and grand silverware.

Ruth Ann's rehab is going really well.  She has managed to move ahead quite rapidly, recently taking 288 consecutive steps.  Hurray!  After her initial meeting with the nutritionist, she has been provided with "substantial" amounts of food, much more than Ruth Ann is accustomed to eating.  She laughingly explained this morning that she is careful of what she eats (and the amount), although she appreciates the selection.
She did find out that there is a Persian restaurant near the facility, so she may have some additional choices.

Today, Ruth Ann is going to inquire if she can access a computer so she can check into SN and a quick visit with friends.  Or perhaps her son will bring his laptop the next time he comes to visit.  She wanted all SN friends to know she misses them greatly, appreciates the prayers and good thoughts sent her way, and is working hard on her rehab.  "A big hug to everyone," is how she ended the conversation

I found this on from Ruth Ann Herself!!!

QuoteGood afternoon, I probably have at most 5 min on the computer. The unit manager learned of my love for SeniorNet and gave me permission to cometo her office today to say "hello."

I can't wait to be back here on a regular basis. AND, they have a piano in the main dining room. Someone was softly playing hymns today as I sat down to order my meal, so I began softly singing along. A lady at the next table of course is a manager, so now I've been "discovered."

I look forward to playing the piano myself as soon as possible (hmmm - maybe after dinner tonight before bedtime???).

The staff are delightful. Every person employed is charged with the responsibility of answering any request for assistance. No one comes on a radio to see what we want -- they show up in person!

I know I shouldn't say "wish you were here"...but at least I hope you'll have as good an experience if you need ortho surgery. Cheesy

Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hi everyone and thanks again for the words of encouragement and letting know of your prayers for our daughter and us.  Things can change quite a bit in a few hours.  She did have the angiogram done early yesterday afternoon and they found a 95% blockage at the site of the last stent that was put in 6 weeks ago.  After consultations with several doctors and heart surgeons they concluded that the proper course of action was to by a single bypass as the stents are not working as she already has 4 in this one vessel.

They put her in the telemetry section of the hospital to be monitored until the surgery but she had significant greater pain during the evening and about 11 pm they transferred her to ICU so that they can administer a nitro drop.  They have had to increase this several times in strength.

We were down at the hospital for several hours, most of which was spent sitting and waiting to hear something.  We went back this morning, first stopping at her apartment to pick up some items she had requested, and then went on to the hospital.  We only stayed about 25 minutes as she is very tired and the talking is tiresome.

We are also pretty well exhausted after three trips in three days but got home about 1:30, had a bit to eat, and then I rested and napped for about 2 hours and do feel better this afternoon.

We are not planning on seeing her for several days as we are going to a State park in the North Georgia mountians for the weekend to a long planned convention.  Fortunately the park is only 90 minutes from our house and probably no more than 2 hours from the hospital.  The hospital has our cell phone numbers, which we will keep on, and we will be talking to our daughter during this time.

We have just had a very nice afternoon shower with the potential for more rain this evening.

I had to laugh at myself when I read the further info on the jiggs meal.  When you explained it Melody, I hadn't picked up on the idea that it was a one dish meal with all of the ingredents cooked together.  I think I now get the picture--sometimes it takes me a little longer.

Marilyn, thanks for sharing the postings about and from Ruth Ann.  It sounds like she is doing great and that the place she is rehabbing is beautiful.

Judy, hope the strep doesn't last too long.  I am sure that is miserable.  I have never had it that I remember.

Janet, glad that you are going to get away for the weekend.  Hope you were able to run down the MRIs and hope you get the answer you need from the doctor.  It does seem sometimes that people pay no attention to what you say to them, especially in work situations.

Guess I had better quite my rambling.  Think I will move to my easy chair as it is more comfortable and I can get my feet up.  I will try to stop by tomorrow morning before we leave in the early afternoon but plan on taking my laptop.  I called the Lodge and they said they have Wi-Fi in the lobby and we will have a number of rest periods when there is no activity scheduled so may have a change to post on Saturday.  We will be home early Sunday afternoon.

melody

Good day everyone.
Just got back f from the mall which is about 2 hours drive from where I live.
It has been a busy day.
Larry will continue to pray and ask the Lord to turn this around for good for your daughter.  You will just have to try a jiggs dinner
Hope everyone is doing good today.
Pat did check out about the weather thing but didn't have time to see how to download it. Will check again tomorrow.

Janet

:)Thanks for the news of Ruth Ann, Marilyn.  I'm happy to know she is being treated so well, and in a lovely place, to boot!

Larry, glad you and Pat are going to get away for a bit, and hope all news from your daughter will be better news.  It sounds like a good plan to bypass that vessel if it already has four stents and one has nearly plugged so quickly.  Will continue to pray for all of you.

GOOD NEWS!!!  After around 12 phone calls yesterday and one this morning, I have learned that Beth's MRI films were still at the hospital in Wichita.  The lady there asked me for the doctor's name and number, I gave her the one here, and she said she would call and see if a DVD of the films would be acceptable, as they are easier to send.  This morning I learned that he okayed that, and that the disc is being sent, should be here Friday or Monday, so I can pick it up on Tuesday after we get home from Nebraska.  Whew, what a relief!

We need to go pick up Abby and two more Scuba tanks, Darrel just got here.

I did work today, and they do have someone to work Monday.  Good thing, because I am not going to be there!  ;)

We plan to leave fairly early in the morning, so won't be around probably until Tuesday.  I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

We are back in Fort Collins this afternoon after cleaning & cleaning - the place was so filthy - now I know why no one else bid on it!  But - we can do this, daughter came & super cleaned all the kitchen cabinets and then I put a nice restoring finish on all & put in shelving paper.  It looks super.  Today, I cleaned windows, tracks & all - and nothing has been cleaned in the years they lived there but a very surface cleaning.  Otherwise, yucky.  All will be in order when somebody comes to visit - but we need a full month to repair things.

Pat: Lovely devotions and so timely.  Today, a new neighbor stopped by and invited us to attend their church, a big community all denominations church.  Sure will.  She says it is Bible-based.

Liz;  You said a "few health problems".  Sending love to you!

Larry: Are you not going to take any more diaretics?  I hope you have a restful trip - you two need peace.

Melody:  Jiggs sounds like a lot of meals I was brought up on and cooked for the children - but gravy wasn't in it - just a broth from a little meat & the veggies.  One rutabaga please, also called a Swede because they always put one in the pot.

Etta Sue:  Congrats to a super creative gal!

Janet:  Enjoy your trip - stay cool.  It has changed here for the better now.  63* this morning on our walk.

I must admit to waves of disappointment at times when we have been checking out the finer things in this house.  How can people not even tighten a screw on stair railings? They left a refrigerator for us that can't even be donated - rusty & broken inside.  And, you wouldn't believe it to meet them, charming & very well dressed.  Her closet had wonderful fabrics for evening dressy occasions.  We will never talk of this to any of the neighbors because they have very good friends there and will be back on special events.  Just venting - as Janet says.  We have laughed a lot over this too because the sellers kept telling us that they would have the place "Professionally Cleaned" when they left.

Carol

Marilyn:  Hello - I see that you are online.  One son brought his dog over to visit and we had such a good time watching Loki sniffing in the back yard - there are racoons, rabbits, coyotes, deer, voles, snakes and so many scents!  The dog went ballistic!

Pat

That's sad about the house, Carol.  I pray that you'll have many years of enjoyment in it.

Good Morning Everyone.

Did you see the begining of the opening exercises for the olympics.  What an amazing fireworks display.  There were fireworks in the shape of footprints from the Forbidden City to the Olympic stadium.  Really a sight to see.

We have more rain this weekend.  the temps are around 60F.  August should be hot days and cool nights and that is not happening.  So much for global warming!  This has been the coolest wettest summer that I remember.

Good news about Ruth Ann.

Larry praying for your daughter.

Janet praying for Beth and for you to have a great time away.

Pat praying for you.

Marilyn you too.

Melody how do you make the gravy, I would just thicken the juices, and add some OXO or something.  How do you do it!..

If I have missed anyone, know you are being prayed for.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  A quick check in.  We spoke with our daughter this morning a couple of times.  She had a good nights sleep but awake to severe chest pain and they had to increase the nitro drip up to 50 from 25 (whatever dosage it is).  Pat has really been struggling with whether she should stay home since we found out our cell phones probably will not work where we are going.  I did talk to the facility office this morning and she said the phones are answered 24 hours a day and if there was an emergency they would come and knock on our door or otherwise be sure we got the message.  I am sure they must have security guards at night.  When Pat told our daughter that she was thinking of not going our daughter thought that was a bad idea and encouraged her mother to go ahead.  So as of now she is going with me.

The surgery is still scheduled for 7:30 Monday morning.  We have decided to go directly to her apartment when we return on Sunday and to spend the night there so we won't have to fight the traffic to get to the hospital early Monday morning.  Her apartment is only about 15 minutes from the hospital.  We will take extra clothing with us for the extra night.

The doctor treating the infection saw her this morning and said the foot is looking great.  The last IV was given last night.  They were going to pull the picc line today but decided to leave it until after the surgery as they can use it during all that process and not have to stick her so much.

Carol, unfortunately unless we get things written into  contract we don't have any basis for action when the other party doesn't perform as indicated.  Sorry you found such a mess and it sounds like a lot of work on your part but sure you and Don will soon have it spotless and back to a very good condition.

My friend sent me the following, which I thought was very neat and wanted to share with you all.

God's Accuracy

God's accuracy may be observed in the hatching of eggs. For example, the eggs of the potato bug hatch in 7 days; those of the canary in 14 days; those of the barnyard hen in 21 days. The eggs of ducks and geese hatch in 28 days; those of the mallard in 35 days. The eggs of the parrot and the ostrich hatch in 42 days. (Notice, they are all divisible by seven).

The lives of each of you may be ordered by the Lord in a beautiful way for His glory, if you will only entrust Him with your life. If you try to regulate your own life, it will only be a mess and a failure. Only the One Who made the brain and the heart can successfully guide them to a profitable end.

God's wisdom is seen in the making of an elephant. The four legs of this great beast all bend forward in the same direction. No other quadruped is so made. God planned that this animal would have a huge body, too large to live on two legs. For this reason He gave it four fulcrums so that it can rise from the ground easily. The horse rises from the ground on its two front legs first. A cow rises from the ground with its two hind legs first. How wise the Lord is in all His works of creation!

God's wisdom is revealed in His arrangement of sections and segments, as well as in the number of grains. Each watermelon has an even number of strips on the rind. Each orange has an even number of segments. Each ear of corn has an even number of rows. Each stalk of wheat has an even number of grains. Every bunch of bananas has on its lowest row an even number of bananas, and each row decreases by one, so that one row has an even number and the next row an odd number. The waves of the sea roll in on shore twenty-six to the minute in all kinds of weather. All grains are found in even numbers on the stalks, and the Lord specified thirtyfold, sixtyfold, and a hundredfold - all even numbers.

God has caused the flowers to blossom at certain specified times during the day, so that Linnaeus, the great botanist, once said that if he had a conservatory containing the right kind of soil, moisture and temperature, he could tell the time of day or night by the flowers that were open and those that were closed!

Thus the Lord in His wonderful grace can arrange the life that is entrusted to His care in such a way that it will carry out His purposes and plans, and will be fragrant with His presence.

Only the God-planned life is successful-and often not by earthly standards.

Only the life given over to the care of the Lord is truly safe.

melody

Good day to all .
Its about 70 degrees I think here today. With sun and cloud. I do like it to be so much hotter.
JudyB Cool so you have jiggs dinner to. To make the gravy I use flour or (corn starch) mixed with some water to thicken. And also use the drippings from the meat for flavor. And use  a few drops of gravy browning if  not dark enough.

Carol. So you have had this meal also.  Seems like I am the only one t hat uses gravy but my husband got to have gravy over this meal or he says its not the same.
Larry -will be remembering your daughter in prayer.
I really like this on God's Accuracy and there is a lot of truth in this. I made a copy to share with someone I knows can use this word right now. So thanks for sharing.
Pat Got your pm about the weather thing,  have not had a chance to check it out further. Will get back to you and thanks for your offer to help me with it. I appreciate that so much.
Have a great day everyone.

Carol

Pat:  Thank you for "listening" - it will all be better soon.  I pray that your new home will be a perfect place of rest and comfort for you and Paul.  Is it nearing completion?

Larry:  It sounds like you can work out your little trip as well as Stacey can be mending -

I just finished reading "Gap Creek" by Robert Morgan.  It is a story about a marriage of a very young girl and husband in Appalachia.  The reason I am mentioning it is that the marriage becomes filled with love only after both of them returns to church - very meaningful in that way.  You will just love it when the main characters stop and pray - even a dangerous situation.  I'll save the book for a new neighbor.

Al Moak

Where is everyone this morning?  It's 11:30 on the eastern seaboard already, and there haven't been any posts yet!  In a few minutes I'll be taking Marbeth up to the laundry room to do the weekly laundry, then I've got to come back here and do the monthly "ballancing the checkbook against the statement" thing.  Oh what fun!  It's the usual "patchy fog" here. It's actually one big patch that covers the entire county.

Ruth

Good afternon I was wanting to sit out side but it is raining yet again,  so inside we stay and do what needs to be done balancing the check book for one thing the other will be to prepare and put some green beans in the freezer.

Larry: Enjoy your much needed rest and I am praying for Stacy as well.

Melody:  This will be a good day for a jiggs dinner.

Judy:  How are the sickies.

Judy:  We watched some of the olympic opening program beautiful and now our time will be spent watching the competions for the next 10 days or so.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  It is Saturday evening and so far everything is going well.  Pat has stayed in touch with our daughter's nurse in the ICU and was calling again while I am here in the lobby of the conference center using my laptop.  This is the only place that has Wi-Fi.  I was able to sign on with my Palm TX but it is fine for reading but very slow for typing as much pick out each letter with a stylus so wouldn't want to use it in place of the computer.

We have had a very nice time last evening and today with some wonderful speakers.  The meals haven't been anything to write home about but we won't starve.  The rooms have no TV or telephones but again we will survive.  I just wish they had Wi-Fi but they don't.  Our evening program begins at 7 pm and this is the keynote speaker.  Following this evening session there is an ice cream social in the dining hall but I think Pat and I will pass on that event (but we could change our mind.)  This weekend has been rather tough on my Weight Watchers efforts but have tried to be reasonable and hopefully won't do too much damage.  It is hard to evaluate the number of points used in a buffet setting but have been keep track and will try to enter them here on the computer when I finish this message and reading a few other postings.

We have had a beautiful day here with very mild temperature.  It has been really nice.

Pat has been having a lot of trouble with her knee and all the extra walking has been very painful to her.

We will leave here after lunch tomorrow and go immediately to the hospital to visit with our daughter a little while and then will stay the night in her apartment so we are back at the hospital Monday before they take her for the surgery.  That is going to be a very long day.
