Good Morning, not much new here, am making a small potato salad that I started yesterday, boiling a few more small potatoes, I'm tired of my fridge being empty. so I will be cooking up enough stuff to last for a week instead of  fixing something daily. I ate  whole Sweet Potato pie yesterday and not much else.

Packed up the little knick knacks for the shelves in the kitchen and some of the china cabinet. Spent a lot of time on the computer writing to friends and dumping a  lot of things on them there were on my  mind. Praise God for the few friends who do not judge and will listen and send good thoughts my way. Much needed prayers from those friends mean so much to me. Just being able to tell them anything and not have them look down on me from someplace they have never been, understand, or even imagined takes a special friend. I have been there already, picked myself up and changed my life getting rid of the past,  and moved on to a better life. So much that many of you do not know, or have ever even dreamed of having lived through and would never understand.
Been there, done that., no t-shirt.

I go up late this morning and felt ashamed of myself, but managed to go for an 1/2 hour swim before doing the groceries.  I'm going through the best bible study book I have ever come across at the moment.  Scroggie's Guide to the Gospels, if anyone could get a copy of this book I can really recommend it.  It's now 4:00 in the afternoon and I've just found time to log on ~ hope everyone is well.

Ruth, thanks for the welcome.  It's so nice to join in with the forum again after such a long break.  I hope that you enjoyed the hockey game.

Sarah, I hope you have a good day and manage to get everything done.  Don't forget to look after that husband of yours ~ hehe.

Ruth Ann, it sounds like you are really busy at this time of your life.  I am praying that the Lord will be with you through all of this.  God bless you.

Marilyn. you are right that people can never know all of the things that we have gone through in our lives.  It is great that you have true friends who are able to listen and encourage.  Of course we all have a heavenly friend who is always willing to hear our cries.  It's wonderful to see you so full of God's love and joy.  God bless you sister.

I'm now going to have a cup of coffee and then do some housework before taking a bite and going to the bible study at church.  Y'all have a good one.

Anthony.

Good morning!  I had a strange day yesterday.  It started off by being late for work for only the second time in my life!  I was so tired on Monday night, went to bed at 9 and slept right through to 7, and was supposed to be at work at 6:30!  :-[  But it was all right, my help wasn't needed nearly as much at breakfast as for lunch.  We had 10 extra people (County and City officials) and a more complicated menu than normal.  I made four coconut cream pies, among other items.

I did come in and read the posts last night but didn't post.

Hello to all of you today, hope those with lots of snow get a break, and those who have problems are in my prayers.  Good to have Anthony, Ruth and Ruth Ann posting more often......hello, MRS. Sarah!  Where are you living now that you are married?

I have Red Hats soon, then a meeting with a lawyer.  Also need to check on Beth, the doctor was called to see her, don't know if he has yet or not, but want to know what will be done for her.

Marilyn ~ God forgives us of our past sins when we confess them.  That's all that matters, right?  And isn't it great to have friends that you can tell anything and everything and there are no judgments in return?  True friends.

Well, I had all intentions of going to Taco Bell today and then getting in some groceries.  It is snowing so I am not venturing out.  I am out of several grocery items but not necessary to go out in snow to get them.

Big day tomorrow.  60 Chix at Cracker Barrel and then Kitty and I are going to play crocheting.  She showed me a crocheted back scrubber that she got as a gift.  I made one and now she wants to make more.  She does some crocheting but has to watch someone and then she can crochet so we are going to play crochet after 60 Chix.  We always have a great time when we are together no matter what we do.

I hadn't talked to Ivalou since Sunday so I called her this morning.  She is doing okay...been trying to keep warm and doing some reading.

Did anyone see 'Homeland Security USA' last evening on the TV?  I really like it.  It is about all our entries into the USA and how they find and detect drugs and terrorists or others who are coming to our country illegal.  Just glad I am not near a border city!

It was 8 years ago today that I lost my Mother.  Sure doesn't seem that long ago and then again, it seems ages ago!

As I said it is snowing, blowing and cold....Brrrr!  29 degrees!

Al -hope you are doing much better now.
Anthony-I have not heard of the book  Scroggie's Guide to the Gospels.
But it sures sounds good. I love bible study!!
May God Bless each one of you today   <3

Hi everyone.  This morning started out warm but it has gotten cooler all day.  We have had rain, wind and now sun and tonight it is to get into the 30s.  The good news is that the rain for the last couple of days has caused our Lake Lanier to raise 3 feet.  This is very important as the drought has caused the lake to get lower and lower and it is the water source for Atlanta and much of the regional area, including where I live.

Today was our first Bible study for this new year.  Our pastor is leading us in a study of the Book of Romans. I am sure this will be our study area into the summer.  From there I went to Kohl's to exchange of couple of dress shirts that Pat got me for Christmas that weren't the right size.  After much looking I was able to find two replacements and had a get a new tie to go with one of them.

That is about all I have done so far today except to organize some papers I need for a meeting tonight into a notebook.  I am going to miss choir practice this evening to attend this meeting but it is an obligation I volunteered to do so no complaints.

Good to see everyone posting.

Anthony

I got back from Bible study about an hour ago.  The pastor was preaching about Mannaseh (don't know how to spell his name) from the Old Testament.  He preached on his prayer while he was in jail and the way that God mercifully heard him.  A good study to take home with you.  My pastor is from Missouri and he keeps talking about American football - I have no idea what he's talking about.  Perhaps I ought to do a study on that ~ hahaha.

Janet, I got up late this morning too, I'm glad it wasn't too much of a problem for you.  I hope the rest of your day goes well.  What is Red Hats?

Melody, it's a good idea to stay in during this cold weather.  We were thin on the ground at church tonight, but with so many old folk in the congregation it's to be expected.  B.T.W. I'm really serious about Guide to the Gospels. If you enjoy doing Bible study, see if you can get it from Amazon.com.  I think every Christian ought to go through the book.  It isn't for the faint-hearted, it might take you months, but it will be worth it.

Larry, it sounds good that you had the rain.  We need water to live, so you can thank God for that.  Doing a study on Romans sounds interesting.  I trust that you will get a lot out of it. Have a good day Larry.

God bless all, and I will see you tomorrow.

Anthony.

Ruth

Hey I slept in this morning as well what a good feeling. About 10 a.m. it started to snow and yes we got lots enough for hubby to use the snowblower.

Then after doing some errands I have spent time doing a clean up on the computer. Now it is running so much faster.

I am needing to make a phone call, then in approx. an hour we will be needing to leave to meet with our son & his family for 3 games of bowling why so late we pay only $1.00 per game.

Must run along      Ruth
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

JudyB

Enjoy the bowling Ruth.  Does Sue ever join you with bowling?

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  It has turned a lot colder here and is now 41 degrees, according to my little weather report at the bottom of my Firefox browser.

Today is my retiree's luncheon.  I haven't attended for several months so am looking forward to it.  I will go from there to our daughter's apartment to pick her up as she is coming out for a couple of nights.  She needs to see the chiropractor.  She has decided to only work part time if the IRS will allow her to do so, if not she says she will try to work full-time.

Not much else new out this way.  My good friend, Rod, went to Las Vegas yesterday to attend the annual Consumer Electronics Show.  This is something he has done for many years but said a few days ago this may be the last time he goes.  Until this year the annual computer user group national meeting was held a couple of days before the Consumer Electronics Show.  He likes to stay up with new things in the electronics area as he is an electrical engineer.

Ruth, hope you bowled well last evening.  I don't think I would care to go late to the bowling alley but the price sounded good.

Anthony, the Bible study is always good as our pastor is a fine teacher.  He doesn't just lecture but encourages us to ask questions or make comments.

Good morning.  Brrrrr!  It's only 14 degrees here.  So cold my internet had a hard time coming on this morning.   ;)  I had to power down the modem and back on before I had access to internet!!  Whew!  When I woke up it was snowing but now it is sunny and not snowing.  But the wind is fierce.

I am going to 60 Chix today then to Kitty's house to play.  Ha!  I am taking my laptop, Bose speakers and crocheting.  I have no idea when I will be home tonight.

Today is Elvis' birthday.  Remarkable how after 30 years from his death, he still has music that is outstanding.  I put his name in Pandora and I am listening to 'Whole Lot of Shaking Going On'.  Remember when he was only shown from the waist up on Ed Sullivan?  Now the commercials are ten times worse than Elvis in his day!

Marilyn ~ You posted while I was composing.  You got prayers from me, gal!

Hi, my son met with the leasing manager at the apartment complex today, and will go tomorrow to pay his rental for this month and get the keys! That's very good, because I can help him get pretty well moved in, then my move will occur over next weekend - just before the Martin Luther King holiday.
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

There have been quite a few postings since last evening.  I have been out of the house all day today.  First, took Beth to see the proofs of hers and John's photos, then to lunch at the Senior Center, followed by doing some volunteer work there; then to a moving committee meeting at the care home.  I am the Family representative on the committee.

My back has been hurting like mad, also my right hip.  I NEVER have back pain, so I called my chiropractor, since he worked on me yesterday.  He said to come in at 5:30, so I'd better get going!

More later.............

2 1/2 hours later....I'm just home again.  The Dr. really worked on me, then did the electrical impulse treatment.  He thinks the pain is from a big release of toxins following yesterday's treatment.  He wants me to come in again tomorrow evening.  In the meantime, ice is my friend.  ^-^  So now I am going to take some pain pills, get the ice pack and head to bed.

What fun yesterday with 60 Chix.  I don't know what happened but I thought there would be around 10 but there was only 5!  But we didn't leave Cracker Barrel until around 3pm!  Lots of talking!

We went to Kitty's and I set up my laptop and Bose speakers but for some reason I couldn't get online with Kitty's wireless set up and she has Embarq also.  So we listened to Hawaiian music that I have on the laptop while crocheting.  Kitty will be fine with her crocheting.  Just needed nudged in the right direction.

Then I showed her Pandora.com on her desktop.  She loves it too!

She fixed supper for us and her hubby.  After a while I said, I hate to eat and run but I have to get home.  It was 9:30 when I got home!!!  A great day.

Today I am going out to eat with Ivalou and some other ladies that we have eaten with before.  Janet is going to take Ivalou and I.  I called Janet and told her I would drive because I needed some groceries.  But she said she needed groceries also so I am riding with her after all.  Duh!  Does that all make sense?

I couldn't go to sleep last night.  I was thinking about Secret Sister cards.  So I got up, turned on the desktop and made a card for my Secret Sister for January to be mailed!  Went back to bed and slept!

We have had some interesting experiences last night and today.

On the way home, driving down a snow covered road, we heard a thunk and the van stopped.  I got out and the front left wheel was at right angles to the direction I was going.  I called a friend was towed to a station and am without a van till the suspension in the front is repaired.  Aparently the lower ball joint let go.  Not much of a wonder on the rough roads that we have up here.  I was awed at the timing.  Five minutes from help and 10 minutes from the highway.  If it had let go there, we may not be here today.  God was protecting us yet again!  Isn't He Good!!!!

John picked us up in the truck and home we went.  Well today the truck quit!  Of all things he put in some fuel from Georgia and the little bit that was left caused the fuel to gell.  Thus no transportation today without a service call.  Now again the truck was running, we could have been stranded on the highway in the cold.  No we were still at home.  Isn't God Good?   YOu know I am in awe at what He is doing in our family and church.

Please pray for my boss.  She is born again, but her parents aren't.  Last night she found out that her dad was in surgery and has been diagnosed with liver cancer.  So sad.  She is heading to Barrie to see him today.

I need to get ready for work  I will be back God bless you all as He has us, even in the llittle things.

All is well, the snow has stopped here on Vancouver Island.  I never thought rain could look so great!  Problem is, there is going to be much flooding now and many folks are facing serious problems.  What a winter this is...and not over yet :-\.

I hope you are feeling better today, Janet.  So many things have been happening it is hard to keep track of everyone's posts.

Marilyn, hope your dog is okay and your trip was safe.

Sarah, glad your big day went well.  Sounds like you are working as hard as ever....God is Good!

I just finished reading the best book that has come along in years.  It is called Dewey, by Vicki Myron.  Amanda gave it to my daughter, who loaned it to me.  The story about the cat who changed the town of Spencer, Iowa, after being rescued from their library drop box on one of the coldest nights ever.  It confirms my belief that God sends the right pet into our lives when needed.

Here is a link to a story about him:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jGpvvLmwbs

I cried at the end and yet it left me with a really great feeling.  I think the librarian gave good advice when she wrote:
Find your place.
Be happy with what you have.
Treat everyone well.
Live a good life.
It isn't about material things; it's about love and you can never anticipate love.

She is a strong Catholic and has a deep faith.   That little cat saw her, the town and many people, through some really tough times.  I think it is a book well worth reading.   :)

Time to get busy.  Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

I received this from a friend in Edmonton.  I think it is the way a lot of us feel after Christmas.  Enjoy.

T'was the month after Christmas,
and all through the house,
Nothing would fit me,
not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled, the chocolate I'd taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber),

I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt...
I said to myself, as I only can,
"You can't spend a winter, disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie, not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore...
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  It is a sunny and delightful day here in Georgia.  It is 56 degrees and tomorrow we are suppose to get to 61 degrees.

This has been a busy morning.  It was coffee a the Senior Center.  I brought my neighbor home, who had ridden with me today, and then went back to the church gym to walk a mile.  I was by myself today (although there are other people about so not really where I couldn't get help if needed).

I came home for a few minutes and then went to the SeniorNet Computer Learning Center Volunteers meeting.  We had the meeting and lunch but didn't have a User Group program this month.  I then came home and had a nice nap and now will work here at the computer for awhile.

Judy, glad your car troubles turned out well and you all didn't get stranded or you weren't speeding down the highway.  That was a cute article.

Marilyn, glad you are in Oregon safely.

Liz, we see on the news that there is really a lot of flooding now in the Northwest.  You all have had a really tough winter.

Etta Sue, it sounds like you have been very busy the last couple of days.  I expect the reason you couldn't get on the wireless at your friends home is related to the security settings of the wireless.  When it is not an open connection, and it shouldn't be, you have to have the laptop look for the wireless connections in the vicinity and then select the one where you are.  It will then ask for the  pass code or number for that wireless connection.  When you put that in you should then have wireless access.  When you connect at a public place that has a hotspot for wireless, it doesn't have that security and therefore you can connect without this step.

I had another idea I wanted to share with you and everyone with a laptop and a wireless system.  There is a really neat program called LogMeIn.  It is free but each computer will have protection of a passcode and the software is put on each computer.  You can then access one computer from the other, such as accessing your desktop from you laptop and do almost anything on the desktop from your laptop.  I use this program often.  This works over the Internet as well if you set up the external computer on your system and the other person gives you permission to access the computer.  I used this with my SIL's computer and could work on her computer in Missouri from my computer here in Georgia.  All this is done with the free version.

Janet, sure hope you are feeling better today.  The chiropractor is often very helpful.  I hope Beth was pleased with the photos.

Ruth Ann, it sounds like things are working out well on the move for both you and your son.  Don't get carried away with helping him and hurt yourself now.

Sarah, I am sure you would like the time off but you have the right attitude to work when you can in this economy.

Larry Hanna

Someone sent this to Pat a few days ago and I thought it was worth sharing:

A GREAT HOLIDAY RECIPE..

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day.  And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.
2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.  Talk to God about what is going on in your life.
3. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My purpose is to __________ today.  I am thankful for______________'
4. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
5. Drink green tea and plenty of water.   Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts.
6. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
7. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead, invest your energy in the positive present moment.
8. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.
9. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
10. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
11. Don't take yourself so seriously.  No one else does.
12.  You are not so important that you have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
13. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.
14. Don't compare your life to others.  You have no idea what their journey is all about.
15. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
16. Frame every so-called disaster with these words:  'In five years, will this matter?'
17. Forgive everyone for everything.
18. What other people think of you is none of your business.
19. GOD heals everything - but you have to ask Him.
20. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
21. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick.  Your friends and family will. Stay in touch!
22. Envy is a waste of time.  You already have all you need.
23. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________.   Today I accomplished _________.
24. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
25. When you are feeling down, start listing your many blessings. You'll be smiling before you know it.

Janet

Hmmm.....I thought I posted this morning when I was here.  Guess not.

Liz and Larry, thanks for the kind words.  I do feel better today, but still have a way to go.  Will see my chiropractor again in an hour.  He is taking me at the end of his day's appointments, so kind of him.  He is really a busy doctor.

Judy, ouch!  That little poem (cute) is too close to the truth!  So glad your vehicle problems did not result in an accident or injury.  Yes, God is good.

Yes, Beth likes the photos.  If you want to see them, I will post a link to them.

It was warm here today, but oh, that awful wind!!  Today the tumbleweeds headed back south.  They are very efficient sowers of seed, so next year those thistles will be everywhere!   :P :ticked:

My youngest daughter called to tell us her father-in-law passed away, the service will be on Monday in Salina.  So we are planning to drive up for that.  He is the one who had Mesothelioma, from working with asbestos.  He suffered horribly, and since he couldn't get well, it is good his suffering has now ended.

Does Pat have internet access in Virginia?

The Spooky Bus Had one of those days on Wednesday, where everything seemed to connect. First went up to the health center, to order my repeat prescription, Terry pulled in just as I got to the bus stop, and yes he was going straight up to the health center when he got to town, put my prescription in, and just as I came out another bus was just outside to take me back into town. I decided Accrington was the next port of call, get one or two things I wanted, then have a fish in a chip shop, came out of there and straight across the road was the bus for Clitheroe, so got on that. Then went to have a browse in a charity book shop, see if I could find something worth reading, nothing really, but on coming out I spotted the spooky bus across the road, I've never seen this service, C71, before, it was a fairly small but well comfortable vehicle, and why I call it the, spooky bus, is the fact that it goes from Clitheroe to Nelson round the top end of Pendle Hill, visiting Downham, Barley, Newchurch in Pendle, and Roughlee, all places connected with the Pendle witches, yes it was spooky, it was a misty drizzly night, and all you could really see was the skeletal forms of the trees set against the darkening gloom of dusk, it looks a beautiful run when the days come a bit lighter. Pendle is beautiful countryside and well worth exploring, but because of an unfortunate feud between two families, it has become an area that unfortunately has become forever associated with witchcraft and the occult, even a complete set of buses have been named after each of the so called Pendle witches, i.e. The Witch Way, an express service that runs between Nelson and Manchester. You find that on a lot of these small buses, the drivers are mostly very friendly, cheerful, and like a good chat, its because they know their passengers like they were next door neighbours. There is a service between Settle and Malham, in Yorkshire, and the driver and his mate are Christians, if you ever get up there do get on that bus, its wonderful.

Interesting day.  John listened as I read it, and responded he must be from England!  Yuppers!

Home late and ready to go to bed.  Reallt tired, so will be hitting the sack soon.

Pat has internet in VA but not in the new house that is being built.  That will come but not yet.  I called and left a message.  Her cell might work, haven't tried that.

Must go, Will be back tomorrow.

Hi everyone.  It is early and I am just awaiting time to leave to pick up my friend to go to coffee at McDonalds.  When I get home I will pack up our daughter's things and take her home this morning with a stop at Walmart on the way to get her some groceries and pick up a few items for us.  It is suppose to rain later this afternoon so want to get her back to her apartment before the rain.

I have nothing else on the schedule for the day so will just take things easy.

Janet, glad to read that you are feeling better.

Summicron, that sounds like quite a bus trip.  That was a good description.  I had my first opportunity to use Word 2007 when I helped a friend with his new computer a few days ago and they had that software on their computer and couldn't figure out how to do somethings.  I found the help screens very helpful in learning to use the different appearing interface.  I liked the graphical appearance when you clicked on a menu.  However, I doubt that I will ever have that software to use myself.

Hope this is a nice day for everyone.

Liz ~ I couldn't believe it.  I have 'Dewey' here in my living room.  Kitty loaned it to me to read.  I am reading another book right now and when I am done, I will read 'Dewey'.  I can't seem to read two books at once like some people...other than the Bible which I read every day!

Judy ~ I can relate too much with your poem!!  And yes, God is good all the time.

Larry ~ What a great Holiday recipe.  Especially like #17.  We tend to think of others in black and white with no gray.  Ourselves?  Why we are colorful, aren't we?  And you are right...I just need to know what to do when I am around wireless internet and can't get on.  When I went to Greensburg, a girl at the motel desk came and got me online....but she didn't tell me what she did.  My nephew used my wireless on his Mac while at Ivalou's but I can't seem to get access with my laptop at Ivalou's???

Janet ~ Yes, I want to see Beth and John's pictures...where?

Marilyn ~ Glad you got to Oregon safely.  I love to drive...but.

Sum ~ I use Word 2007 now...self taught.  Excel also...self taught.  And I enjoyed your words about The Spooky Bus.

Not much going on today here in Indiana.  Gloomy day with rain/sleet...maybe snow later.  A good day to stay in.  I am doing laundry and then later need to catch up on recorded TV shows!
