Well, it was up over 90 yesterday, and supposed to be like that today as well.  Then, beginning with good old Humboldt County "patchy fog," tomorrow, it's supposed to be back down in the 60s and 70s.

Pat - the thing is, $5/gallon is high up there, but there is absolutely no excuse for it here.  The oil companies are making record profits after record profits, yet they insist that the high prices aren't their fault!  If not, then whose?  God sees their greed.

Marilyn

Yes Al Humboldt has the highest gas prices in the USA. I usually gas up in Brookings Oregon before I come home, i never let my car get below ½ tank that way it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg for gas I wouldn't be able to afford gas any other way; I am so grateful now that Keith is helping with my expenses for gas. It was $60. my last trip to Oregon because I waited until I got to Brookings to gas up on the way up there.

I am slowly recovering  from my fall it gets painful when the Aleve is wearing off. That usually lasts about 10-12 hours or so. But in general I m not feeling up to par. It will be better when there is no pain.

Have a great and blessed day everyone.

Hi everyone.  We had some very nice rain yesterday afternoon and no storms in the area.  Unfortunately, I don't think we got very much but the yards appreciated it and look greener this morning.  I didn't go walking this morning as a coffee drinking friend offered to come back from coffee with me to see about my office chair.  The plastic piece that connects the back to the seat broke the other day.  He thinks he can fix it.  I decided not to use it anymore until it is fixed so am using one of our dining room chairs at my computer.  It is quite comfortable so it is no problem.  The man who is helping me is the brother of my good friend that passed away a few days ago.  He always has projects on the burner and I have done several things for him on the computer and guess he saw this as an opportunity to help me and I appreciate it.

Pat has plans for most of the day so I will be alone here at the house.  It will be a good time to do some computer maintenance on her computer.  She has an AMD chip in her computer and the new service pack 3 that Microsoft issued the other day caused it to crash.  I have found a work around so will give it a try to that I can get her computer up to date on the fixes from Microsoft.

It sounds like you all are having really warm weather on the West coast.  We will be having that soon.  However, for the last couple of weeks or so we haven't need to heat or air condition either and have been able to have the house opened to the fresh air, which is always nice.

Marilyn, glad you are feeling better.  I hope the pain goes away soon.

Ruth Ann, sure hope your son doesn't have too much pain from the dental surgery.  I am sure he will be glad to have it over.

Janet, you are fortunate that Beth's mind is good and that she can make her own decisions.  I know this was such a help for my sister and I with my folks.  My dad stayed in sound mind to the end and could make the decisions affecting mother.  They both had made known their feeling about being kept alive on machines and so my sister and I made the really tough decision to not put her in the hospital and on to machines to prolong her life only a few days.  There was no quality of life for her.

Nita, thanks for sharing that beautiful story with us.  When we have Christ as our personal savior we do not need to fear death as we will have new life with him.

Jeannine, I am sure the time must be going by too quickly for you on your trip.  It was nice to see your posting.

Etta Sue, it sounds like you are having quite a time with your lawn mowers.  The oil spill certainly couldn't have been much fun either.

Liz, it sounds like the tradesmen have everything in a turmoil.  If they did it right the first time they wouldn't have to redo it and it is so sad when they leave before the job is finished.

My wife has left so guess I had better get busy on her computer.  Hope this works.

Duh!  I haven't noticed the 'more' beside the Smilies!!

Well, yesterday I received a letter from my electric company.  I signed up to get emails to read my own meter last summer when they overcharged me for a 1000 kilowatts.  Once a year, they read the meter themselves.  It was cold last year and a man came to read my meter.  But I haven't gotten emails since.  This letter stated that they have been unable to read my meter because it is inside a locked fence, dogs are present, I need to leave a key to get in my locked fence with a neighbor or something other things to that affect.  I called them this morning and told them that I was sitting on my deck drinking coffee when the Accu-Read truck came to read my meter which is less than 20 feet from my driveway in clear sight.  She said since I was on EasyRead ..reading the meter myself and calling or emailing it in...the reading that Accu-Read did was nil so an estimate was done since last October!!!!!!!  And I just now got a letter!!!  I told them to take me off the EasyRead since it wasn't my fault that I didn't get emails telling me to read my meter and submit it.  She said that I should have called them with my reading.  No, that wasn't the deal!  They read my meter May 8th and I have over 1500 kilowatts since.  So I will receive a huge bill in June for July billing!!

I am off my soap box now.

At Photo Guild a lady talked about ProShow Gold and ProShow Producer...software to make movies of your pictures and music.  Similar to Movie Maker on Windows XP but you can do a lot more with it.  She makes movies for others and charges them.  I may just have to put a shingle in my front yard!!!

Tonight is a Variety Show at Lapel High School.  Ivalou has company and if they don't want to go, I may just go by myself!

Bright and sunny here today but still chilly.  Only 54°.

Honest question here.  I keep seeing the phrase, "Quality of life" and it was a phrase used in my dad's situation as well.

Will someone please define it for me?

Al Moak

Karma, I don't know how others define it - maybe they can't.  I simply define it as the ability to relate to God - to communicate with Him and worship Him.  Actually, there are probably very few who define it that way.  Nevertheless, I believe that if these attributes are present at least in some degree, then non-emergency measures should be taken to prolong life.  Non-emergency, to me, does not mean measures without which death would occur fairly quidkly.  Of course defining these terms might be difficult, and I confess to not having all the answers.  I only ask for reasonableness.

Al I am impressed with your answer.  I am about halfway through a book my daughter, Joy, sent me and finding it really an incredible work on relationship with God!  It's called The Shack, by William P. Young, and if anyone ever has an opportunity to read it you will be amazed at the author's ability to make these concepts so clear.  It is actually a novel but parallels John Bunyon's Pilgrim's Progress, except for this generation.

You can check it out at: theshackbook.com

P.S. I recommend, if you go to this website, that you read the forward and/or some of the first couple chapters that are provided there.  The REAL journey into the heart of God begins after the 3rd chapter, actually.

My son did react a bit to the anesthesia, so we waited a few moments for the nausea to subside before leaving the surgeon's office.

He's dealing with a good bit of pain, but seems to be okay - even asked for food. So I think he'll do all right, just will take some time.

As for my own wishes about death, I've asked that no heroic measures be done, and that hydration not be removed until death. After all, God has blessed me with many years and he answered my prayers to allow me to live long enough to see my children to adulthood. And, last but not least, it is well with my soul. I look forward to seeing my Master face to face.

I pay just over $6 a gallon here in Japan, and the price has been going up, just as it has been in the US and Canada and elsewhere.  And you know what?  The traffic jams continue.  The consumer keeps buying it.  I guess if there wasn't such a demand...  ???

I do ride my bicycle on my days off more than I used to, and I've started taking public transportation a bit more, too.

I've heard that ours will  be a out $1.45 by summer per liter.  Multiply that by 4 and that's about a US gallon.

I think I'll get a bike!  I'd like a battery operated bike with a carrier on the front and I can go on it to get my milk and bread, etc.  :)

I was chatting a bit with Colin this week, and he said gas there in Ireland is over $10.00 per gallon!  :dizzy:  For sure you would need a bicycle there!  Here in our rural area, we have to depend on cars for transportation, there is NO public transportation at all--no trains, no airport, no buses, not even a taxi!  And we drive quite long distances, too.  Today they raised the price at one station to $3.97, but I filled up earlier at our usual station (Sinclair) for $3.87 per gallon.

Karma, Al gave a great answer, one I must admit I hadn't thought of, at least in those exact terms.  I guess I think of quality of life as being a state in which the person can enjoy at least a few aspects of living.  That could mean many things--enjoying television, reading, visiting with people, eating, using computer, worshiping, whatever means something to that person.  And also having their pain well controlled. Does that make sense to you?

Tonight was our annual mother/daughter banquet at the senior center.  Diane and Abby came and met me there, and it's always a joy to see them.  We each won a gift in the drawings.

I am really weary, still going after the cleaning and getting ready for reunion.  Have to work tomorrow afternoon, and in the morning is our monthly scrapbooking day-- well, it's all day, but I can only go for the morning.

One of Darrel's classmates who now has MS and is very weak, won "Mother of the Year" tonight at the banquet.  She has lost a lot of ground over these past few months, and I hope that honor gives her a boost in morale, at least.

See you later!

It was over 90 here today!!  I'm not used to this. lol  Now, just after 8 pm, it's nice and comfortable...with all the doors and windows open.  We're supposed to cool off tomorrow.

Jane, that must be a really good book, for you to recommend it.  I'll go check out the website.

Youbetcha, Nita.... this reminds me of when we would share each other's book list.  One of us would find a good book and recommend it to the other and vice versa ...  This is, indeed, a book you will not want to pass up.  I recommend reading the forward by the author ... it sets the stage for the rest of the story.

Yup, it was (and is) hot here on the south coast ... not something we are used to, so it really hit us hard.  We don't even have air-conditioning here because it's not needed ... oh yeah?   hmmmmm

It is the same here no A/C, yesterday it was 87° at my desk but more tolerable outside. I took the dogs for a short walk each around the block. We will do the longer walks today while it is cool.

This morning I need to do a little shopping and some baking before it gets hot. I am baking a batch of Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookies to take with me to Oregon on Thursday.

Now to sit back and enjoy my  :coffee:

I suppose if I pay £5 and you guys pay $5 dollars a gallon for gas/petrol it is the same difference if all things are equal but it is really expensive to run a car here. Our coal went up just £3 a bag!

Anyway....hi everyone. Been reading all the posts and keeping up with all you are doing. The weather in N. Ireland has been fantastic for at least 3 weeks and Jeannine is getting a false impression of what we have to endure over here. Where is the rain, rain, rain she will be asking. I know Pat and Gordon will know most of these places we have visited so far...Slemish, Coast Rd., Giant's Causeway, Glenarriff, Castlerock, Downhill, Benone and lots of other less known places besides. Last night we watched a beautiful sunset setting over the sea at Benone strand. Jeannine has taken hundreds and hundreds of photos and video and I have taken video of Jeannine taking pictures! I am so happy to show Jeannine around my land but I might have to go and rob a bank before I am finished!
God bless...I will be in touch.

Hi Everyone,

Colin ~ I'm afraid to ask where all the rain is for "fear" of bringing it on. lol  All kidding aside, N. Ireland has had truly beautiful weather from what I hear from everyone. And I could not have asked for a better guide to this beautiful land.

I have been reading and keeping up with the posts, just not commenting much. Praying for everyone here. May you all have a God blessed and filled day.

Hi everyone.  It is a beautiful day here, a bit cool this morning, but suppose to warm up nicely this afternoon.  I went to coffee for about 30 minutes this morning and then my friend said he was ready to come and fix my desk chair but had a ball game to attend for his grandson at 9 am.  So we came on back to the house and he fixed it.  I am sure it is stronger than new and I really appreciated him doing this.  He had the tools needed and the the know how.

Not much on the schedule today.  We will attend a meeting later this morning and then have the rest of the day clear.

I called the number on my jury summons and found out I don't have to report for jury duty until 12:15 on Monday.  It will be a day-by-day situation all this next week as to weather I will have to go to the courthouse or not.  I have been through this process before so know what to expect.

I finally heard from the telephone company on the problem with our phone system.  They had me unplug all of the phone systems from the wall jacks and turn off my modem/router and wait for 30 minutes.  Then start by plugging in the wired phone.  When I did this there was still a buzz on the line.  They mentioned that the interference could be coming from our satellite dish and I have about concluded that is the situation.  We are seriously considering going with a voip system again and will probably stay with ATT as we have a bundle of services that gives us a discount on monthly charges.

I didn't go to the Variety show last evening.  My stomach was a little upset so didn't want to chance it.

Ivalou asked me over to visit with her, Jim and Emily.  Jim is Ivalou's brother-in-law and they live in Minneapolis.  There were in Indiana to gather with their Class of '53.  They left for Minnesota this morning.

Aaron called this morning.  I have been putting him off too long so decided to take him to the bank and out to eat somewhere.  We ate at Logan's Steak House.  Wonderful.  Steak, sweet potato and salad.  Just what I needed!

I think I hear Ivalou's mower.  Does that mean I need to mow, too?

:)   Good morning to all.  I have been very busy with family and many other things since I last posted.  My doctor from the hospital seems to be happy with what I am doing to help my medical problems and I dont have to see him again unless I have any more pains in my chest.  :)  Praise the Lord for that.

This past week we went and spent time with our granddaughter and her parents and we had a great time and also we went to a large church that has a very large seniors group and they had a luncheon and then a talent show after and it was grat and the people who performed were very talented.

Al:  Thank you for your devotional it was excellent and the psalms are so full of good teaching.

Larry: What does this short form mean I cannot think what it is.

Marilyn: Sorry about you injury and please make sure you go and get it checked out.

Jeannine:  Hope that you are still enjoying that wonderful country.

Ruth Ann  Hope that you are looking after yourself and your health.

Well as you all can see it is getting late at night or early in the morning so I must sign off.  Have a wonderful day with the Lord's people and in his house.   God bless  Gord. :coffee:

Hi everyone.  Slept in a little bit later this morning as we don't go to coffee on Sunday morning.  I am ready for church and Pat made a nice breakfast of egg and sausage burritos for us and they were very good.

I don't have to be at church until 11 am this morning as the choir is only sitting in the choir loft to help with the hymns and to do the final three-fold Amen at the end of the service.  We have a choir member singing a solo this morning.  Our director is still in Germany as the last concert with the Berlin Philharmonic was last night.  We did have an e-mail from her earlier in the week following their first concert saying it was wonderful and the Berlin orchestra was superb.  She will be back for choir practice on Wednesday evening.

Gord, I am completely lost regarding the "short form".  I looked back to see what context I had used but didn't find anything.  Sorry.

Janet, only you can make the decision as to how much work is too much for you.  Sometimes the prices we pay for doing things, even those we enjoy doing a lot, can be too high in terms of our energy and overall health.  I am sure you will make the right decision for you.

Etta Sue, sorry you weren't feeling up to attending the variety show Friday evening as sure you would have enjoyed it.  Hope you are feeling better today.

Hope this is a glorious day for everyone.  We sure have a beautiful day here this morning and might even get a nice shower later in the day.

Marilyn

Good Morning I don't have to be at church until 10 am this morning  it starts later at the church in Arcata. This afternoon I will be meeting a friend who is giving me some  cream for me to try out on the bruise on my right knee I did take another tumble last night, My slipper came of as I was stepping up into the kitchen and I tripped, fell onto the same knee that I always fall on. Drat!!!! What's bad is that I had  been barefoot up until that time and had just put my slippers on.

Willa tells me that the numbers are still going down at the church here on Saturday nights. So I just keep on praying for them there.

Well must go see if I can do something with my hair now.

I felt much better yesterday than Friday night, for sure!!

Today was church and I listened to two sermons...and then to Taco Bell.  Getting to be a habit but I do like Taco Bell.

Then, I know, I shouldn't have done it but I came home and mowed the grass.  I have made a vow that at the price of gas, that I am not mowing until the 6th day after I mowed last and today was the 6th day.  With all the rain we have had lately, it was really tall.  If I had waited, I would have had to 'make hay while the sun shined!'

Now to get my feet and legs up.  I can feel them swelling.
