Morning Devotional...

Lazarus Dies
John 11:17-36  NLT

When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had already been in his grave for four days.  Bethany was only a few miles down the road from Jerusalem, and many of the people had come to console Martha and Mary in their loss.  When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house.  Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.  But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask."

Jesus told her, "Your brother will rise again."

"Yes," Martha said, "he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day."

Jesus told her, "I am the resurrection and the life.  Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.  Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?"

"Yes, Lord," she told him. "I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God."  Then she returned to Mary. She called Mary aside from the mourners and told her, "The Teacher is here and wants to see you."  So Mary immediately went to him.

Jesus had stayed outside the village, at the place where Martha met him.  When the people who were at the house consoling Mary saw her leave so hastily, they assumed she was going to Lazarus's grave to weep. So they followed her there.  When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, "Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died."

When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled.  "Where have you put him?" he asked them.

They told him, "Lord, come and see."  Then Jesus wept.  The people who were standing nearby said, "See how much he loved him!"

In what situations have you been disappointed with God?

Jesus loved this family and often stayed with them.  He knew their pain but did not respond immediately.  His delay had a specific purpose.

God's timing, especially his delays, may make us think that he is not answering or is not answering in the way we want.  But he will meet all our needs according to his perfect schedule and purpose.

     Patiently await his timing.

Church was great this morning and the messages were just what we needed.  Next week we will receive pledge cards for our giving and turn them in...without names on them.

Ivalou called me to remind me that her church was having Talent Night this evening.  This little church has a congregation of 75-100 but it is loaded with talent...singers, puppeteers, chime choir, pianists, violinists, saxophonist, barbershop quartet. readings, and signing to the Lord's Prayer.  Then four of us went out for dessert afterwards.  A very fun evening!

I can't believe no one has been here since midnight.  Where is everyone???  YooHoo!!!  Where are you???

Al Moak

Hey Etta Sue - 7AM there is only 4AM here!  We don't get up that early!  You'll make us feel like that cat did (who was saying, "Don't bother me!  Put some tuna in front of me, or just leave me alone - can't you see I want to sleep!"

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone and here I am, Etta Sue.  I didn't get here yesterday as was busy with other things.  We attended Sunday School and church and then went out to lunch with 8 other friends and, as always, had a wonderful time of good food and laughter.  It is so nice to have good Christian friends.  I came home and took a nice nap and then spent most of the rest of day and evening reading and listening to music.

When I went out this morning is was really chilly, around 34 degrees, and the ground was covered with frost.  However, it is suppose to get into the 60s today and it is sunny with no clouds apparent in the sky.

I don't have anything on the schedule today so plan to stay in and work on some projects.  I took on a new short-term project to serve on and chair a committee to develop ideas and a plan for recruiting more volunteers for our computer Learning Center.  There are three others serving on the committee and we will contact other organizations, do literature research and brainstorm from our life experiences.  We will then present a report to the board and/or current volunteers and that will complete our work.

Etta Sue, thanks for the fine devotional.  It is helpful to me to remember that things happen in God's time.  This has had new meaning for me this year as I have seen it demonstrated.  Playing the "what if" game is such a waste of time and effort.

Al, you certainly have the cats pegged correctly.  :)  We had an experience over the weekend involving our cat that we won't soon forget.  I had let him in from the porch and he had jumped down from the table we have out on the porch.  He seemed to be fine but in just a couple of minutes he went into my wife's sewing/computer room and let out this terrible howl and then began a series of these as if he were crying out in pain.  Pat picked him up and cradled him and he stopped and then she held him for awhile.  He seems to be fine now but must have hurt his foot or perhaps he has arthritis as he is getting to be pretty old.  I have fixed the chair on the porch so he can jump into it and then on down to the floor as don't want to hear that cry again.

Etta Sue, it sounds like your sister's church has an abundance of talented people.  However, I expect that is true in most congregations but people are hesitant to share that talent.

Janet, you must really like the "Wizard of Oz" to attend the play and watch the movie on TV.  That is one of Pat's favorites and she has watched it many time over the years but not this year.

Trisha, sorry you have to have full time bed rest but you are wise to follow your doctor's advice.  My wife had to do that with our second child and we had a child that was only about a year old at the time.  Fortunatley my grandmother was able to come and spend several weeks with us and help out.

Carol, sure hope that Don doesn't overdo the lifting.  Don't you suppose God sent your pastor to you all for his purposes even if not everyone likes him?  He is doing God's work.

Ruth Ann, you must have needed the extra rest.   I hadn't heard that about the boys wearing such loose fitting pants.  I have seen a couple of sites I couldn't even adequately describe and thought how uncomfortable and troublesome it must be to put up with such a thing much less how ridiculous they look.

Marilyn, you are a kind neighbor and I am sure the cats appreciated the attention.

Ruth, hope your husband is feeling better today.  There seems to be a lot of flu going around everywhere.

Pat, hope the sun is shining up your way today.

The morning is about gone so guess I had better move on for today.

Pat

Good Morning Everyone...

Wow!  A new week!  thanks Etta Sue for opening our new thoughts for this week.  Good thoughts too!

I'm off to Mississauga later.  I'm going to have a night of listening to Freeman Patterson, a photographer I admire and I'm really looking forward to this.

Sun's not shining, Larry!  :(

I believe we had 18 degrees F. this morning.  Grateful that we had to buy a new furnace last winter because it should keep us more cozy.

Larry:   :-[   You are so right to point out that our newest pastor was intended to be here - and I really do believe that each of us meets someone we need to meet because every step of our lives is for a programs we do not know.  Thank you for reminding me.  Am sure that there is much more for me to learn - I did enjoy working with him at the homeless shelter when we were both prepping food.

company is arriving tonight & we don't know if the snowstorm/blizzard and so will be all the way to this lower level but he winds will be up to 80 mph in the highest mountains.  We can see something developing.

Etta Sue:  Your thoughts for the day concerning what ways I might think God has disapointed me - there is one huge issue concerning a daughter-in-law - it has made me almost ill and I have prayed that I could overcome this feeling and accept, prayed for a better answer and so forth.  Now, I am at the point that I don't even want to think about it as it makes me feel sad even to the point of slight depression.  Thanks for your good words today.

Carol

Good afternoon all y-all. Iam fnally her to post. I was here real early to read  though.

We had a Women's meeting lat night after prayer meeting there wre only 8 there but there was so much food I couldn't believe it. We are working on getting our new Women's ministries program  organized.

Thank you Etta Sue for the devotional today.  i think I am always a Mary as I am always in the kitchen preparing stuff when there is something going on at church. Hopefully that will change now. I have learned well to wait for God's timing but I have learned it the hard way.

Hi,

I had a very busy 4 days (Thu-Sun), and yesterday (Monday) I went to a gorge about 1.5 hours from home to shoot "autumn".  It was a fun time, but a lot of walking up and through the gorge.  The unusually warm October here left us without the deep, pretty red leaves that we normally get.

I'll post a pict or two later.  Wander over to the gallery with me...

from Hebrews 8...

The assigned task of a high priest is to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and it's no different with the priesthood of Jesus.  If he were limited to earth, he wouldn't even be a priest. We wouldn't need him since there are plenty of priests who offer the gifts designated in the law.  These priests provide only a hint of what goes on in the true sanctuary of heaven, which Moses caught a glimpse of as he was about to set up the tent-shrine. It was then that God said, "Be careful to do it exactly as you saw it on the Mountain."  But Jesus' priestly work far surpasses what these other priests do, since he's working from a far better plan.

Hi, friends,

I'm here feeling a bit "stale", since it's my oldest son's 45th birthday today!

It was, of course, a busy day at work, but I'm thankful I was able to leave on time. This time change still has my mental capacities reeling - I step into someone's office, and for all the world it looks like "midnight" outside.

Oh, well, I'll adapt, I'm sure.

Y'all have a good evening.

Howdy, Y'all.  I posted this morning........in the wrong place.  :-[  No wonder I didn't get any notifications.  :-\

I have been putting lots of hours into my scrapbook of photos of China.  I think maybe I am about 3/4 finished, and am wanting to wind it up. Those take many hours of work, and lots of THINKING as well.  But it will be a great reminder of the happy memories of our trip.  Darrel keeps coming into my studio to look over the pages I have finished, and that makes me feel good.

It has turned cold and windy here, and I don't like that, especially since I have to take Beth to Dodge City tomorrow.  But I hope we can get some answers for her.

Carol, your words about a daughter-in-law remind me that nearly every family has problems.  It doesn't make them any easier to deal with though, does it?  I know I have my share of heartaches with family stuff, too.  (((hugs)))

Larry, glad you got to stay home and take it a bit easier today.

Pat, hope you have a wonderful time at the photography meeting.

Etta Sue, good devotional!  And thanks for the heads-up.  ;)

See you all another day!

I'm a bit amazed - I appear to be the first to post today!  I don't think that's ever happened before.  and me on the West Coast.  You easterners must have taken sleeping pills!

Ruth Ann ~ My son is 45, also...soon to be 46.  I don't feel that old when I say I am 64 but I really feel old when I tell people my son is 45!  I am not old enough to have a son 45 years old... :'(

Al ~ I would have been first but my above mentioned son just called me and since it was his nickel, we talked for a long time.  It seems they have been offered a big amount of money to buy their home...so a strip mall can be put in there.  His BIL and FIL's land and homes would also be purchased.  But he says he turned down the offer.  He said, 'Never take the first offer!'  My county's business is new homes and real estate!!

I went to Photo Club last evening with Kitty.  I am always amazed at the quality of photography in this club.  Nita, I took a couple of pictures of Chaoscope with 'holes' in them and used them as frames.  They thought that was pretty neat!

Today is a gloomy, cloudy, sunless day in Indiana and 39°F at 10am EST.  So, that being said, I think today will be a 'reading a book' afternoon!

Hi!  I'm just popping in to greet you and tell you I will probably not be back on before tomorrow.  Have to take Beth to Dodge, then their Thanksgiving dinner at the home is at 5:30.  Since it is 80 miles to Dodge, and her appointment is at 3:00, I'm thinking we will likely be late to dinner!  :-\  But this trip is necessary, just another in the quest to find help for Beth.  The Reliv products are helping her in several ways, but she needs a brace on that foot/ankle/leg.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Goodmorning:

My hubby it seems had the 36 hour flu, after about as many hours sleeping he is now well. Thanks for being concerned folk.

Yesterday I made enough apple sauce to put in jars for the winter mmmmm it is good with pork chops.

On Sunday a retired farmer came to visit bringing a gallon of raw milk for Mel  it something I do not care for although I was a farmers kid but it is Mel's favorite.  Raw milk is a no no in Canada but Mel does enjoy it whenever it comes his way.

Monday we has an appointment in Brampton then on our way home we stopped at Sue's for a couple of hours before heading home. It is always so nice to spend time with your kids.  ooops they are now adults sorry.

Janet: It is good to hear that the Reliv products seem to be helping Beth.

Pat:  How was your time with Freeman Patterson?

It seems that this will be a day with no sun.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Hi Ruth...

Last night was wonderful.  We saw so many wonderful images.  There must have been about 400 people there and it was a really nice auditorium like a theatre one with sloping floors so that all seats were good seat.

Hi everyone.  Colin, you are being helped by the "best".  Pat has helped many folks over the years I have known her.  Hope you enjoy participating here on SN and welcome.

Today has been a busy one and I just now read through my e-mail and wanted to stop by briefly to say hi.  This was the day for the luncheon at the Senior Center.  We only had 19 attend but had a nice time.  Pat fixed me a couple of dishes to take but didn't go as she came down with a cold last evening, her second since August when she went to Nashville to the quilting convention.  She has spent most of today in bed.  I don't have to go out again today so plan to have a nice quiet evening and will probably read.  I have gotten out of the habit of reading very much, other than on the Internet, and I am really enjoying reading books again.

It has been a very pretty day here today and warmed up fairly nicely.  However, we have 100% chance of rain tomorrow and some wind.  That will bring a lot more of the leaves off the trees.  The peak of the fall season has passed now.

Several of you commented on the ages of your children and making you feel old.  Pat and I have three great grandchildren and we are only 65.  Carol, I can assure you you are not the only one who has some family dyfunctions but, in my case, I have tried my best to learn to live with them since I can't change the situation.  I just strive not to cut off relationships.  God has blessed us in that two of the three difficult situations are greatly improved and I am most grateful.

Pat, glad you had such a nice time last evening.  It sounds like there was an appreciative audience.  Pat had a first cousin that was a professional photographer, as were his parents.  He told wonderful photos.  Unfortunately he had a brain tumor and lived only a couple of weeks after discovering it.

Ruth, I love homemade applesauce.  My mother used to make it every year.  Have you ever made pear honey?  I can still taste it on toast (what a nice memory).

Janet, hope you have a good trip to Dodge today and that Beth gets the help she needs from the trip.  Hope you didn't have to miss the Thanksgiving dinner tonight with your mother.  At least you won't have to have prepared a meal tonight after traveling today.

Marilyn, glad Mimi made it home from the hospital.  It is so nice of you to pick up the lady for the two week period.  You are a good friend and I think we often get so much more from helping someone than they do.

Etta Sue, I expect your son will be getting subsequent offers.  Hope he gets what he wants for his property since he probably wasn't seeking to sell anyway.

Al, didn't take any sleeping pill as I have no trouble sleeping but didn't get up very early this morning.

Ruth Ann, I like your "stale" comment.  I had never heard that before.

Kevin, I expect you got some really wonderful photos of the gorge.  It sounds like you had a wonderful time.

Nita, isn't it amazing how fast the weeks go by.  I had it in my mind this morning that it was Wednesday and that I would be going to choir practice tonight and then realized this is only Tuesday.

Carol, hope you all escaped a blizzard.  It is pretty chilly out your way.  BRRRR!

Guess I had better get busy on something else.

Nita

Hi, Colin.  I hope you find yourself around Christian Photographers and let us get to know you.  If you have Pat helping you, it won't be long you'll be flying along.  Anyway, welcome. :)

Etta Sue, I've been in a couple of times just to read your devotional.  God is really a stickler for HIS OWN TIMING, isn't He?  Jane Walker could really testify to this.  She has said that when she reminds God that she is in need of this or that, He'll say, "Well, do you need it today?".  And her answer is usually, "I guess not today". :)  And He always supplies before the need is actually there.   (Jane, correct the story if I've messed it up)

I've been cleaning today.  I decided I needed a new couch cover, so ordered that.  I had a Visa gift card my daughter had given me for my birthday.  I'd never seen one until I got it in the mail.   I went online to read about them. Seems there are all kinds of fees attached.   Not my idea of a good deal, but then I'm old fashioned and thrifty. haha  But for a gift card...and to me.. well....I won't look a gift card in the mouth (too closely or too often).

And back to the devotional.  God has been speaking to me about understanding the times, the seasons.   I think we are to be so intimate, so near to Him that we can be ones to whom He shares His secrets of timings and seasons.  I know I want to be one who will listen to God's heart in this hour!  What if He wants to speak to His Body and we are not listening?  This seems so huge to me right now.   Anyone else feeling this, or is it for me alone?

Blessings, nita

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

It just dawned on me that American Thanksgiving Day is only about a week away! What gives with this year's calendar??? It certainly is whizzing along, that's for certain.

I had my truck's emissions testing done at lunchtime today and there was no waiting, so went on and got the license plate update, too. Then, after work, while in the dry garage that was well lit, I put the stickers in the right place on the license plate, filed the paperwork in the glove compartment for next year, and felt SOOOO relieved to get that behind me for another year.

My bosses were out all day, but I certainly stayed busy. Seems there's always a reason to concentrate and work a bit harder. At least, there are very few days when I get bored.

I'm still so very thankful to be able to come here and read at my leisure and pray about persons undergoing difficult situations, rejoice with those who are celebrating, and keep up with all of us.

Y'all have a good evening.

You don't "mess up" stories, Nita!!

Actually, I got that from reading Matthew 6: 25-34.  Jesus says my Father knows what I need ... and then he says not to worry about tomorrow ... If my Father knows what I need, He also knows when I need it.  If I don't have it today it's because I don't need it today .....  He supplies all my needs and I trust Him for the perfect timing.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

It is good to read your posts.

Welcome to Colin all the way from northern Ireland!

Janet:   Thanks for the hug.  What a day for you driving all over Kansas.

Larry:   Yes, good to read your post.  Sorry that Pat has another cold.  A stay in bed is really good for mending the body.

Pat:  Your shout asked how everyone is and I am fine but tired from so many little things.  The best part is that I should sleep well tonight.  More important, How are YOU?

:'( :'( :'( I  was just completing a long post and lost it.

Anyway, I'm home and ever so glad to be here.  We had quite a day.  And Beth drove her power chair off the van's ramp--off the side of it, I mean--and it threw her out flat onto the concrete when she was getting out to go back into the care home!  I had taken her things in to her room, as Darrel was there with her, and when I came back to the door, there she was, lying on the concrete!! :o :o  Soon there were eight people around her, asking if she was all right and checking her vital signs, etc.  I think she will have some bruises and probably be sore, but she didn't break anything, thank God.  Talk about a scare!

We had been warning her and warning her to not wobble her wheels when loading or unloading, but ....... well, hopefully she learned a lesson.  That's something we can't do for her!!

We drove up to the care home right at 5:30, so after we made sure Beth was okay, Darrel came on home and I stayed for the dinner, then he came back to get me.

Welcome, Colin!!  I would LOVE to visit Ireland!!

And now, since I didn't get to sleep until after 4 this morning, I'm going to call it a day and hit the hay!

JANET!!!!  That's just awful about Beth!  My goodness!  I'm so sorry that this happened.

Good Morning, All!

Okay.  I am wondering how long the word 'All' has been beside where the pages are?  At the bottom of the posts, it is written Pages...1,2 All.  I clicked All and it starts at the first posts and ends at the last post.  Neat.  Please don't tell me it has always been there.... :-\

Janet ~ What a scare for Beth and for you and Darrel.  I am just so happy that Beth didn't hurt anything other than her pride.

Larry ~ Sorry that Pat has a cold.  Bed rest!  Hot soup!  Two aspirins!  That should do it!

Pat ~ Here's hoping all your days are above normal!  You deserve 'up' days!

Marilyn ~ I wish I had Curves near me.  I would like to start walking but not out here in the country and the nearest town/big building where I could walk is 7.5 miles away.  Don't want to drive that every day just to walk.

Carol ~ How is that kitchen coming along?  Is it possible to post a photo of the finished product?

Ruth Ann ~ I remember when my boss would be away and it seemed that I got so much more done when I wasn't interrupted by the boss!  Makes the day go so much faster, too.

Jane ~ The 'worry' scriptures in Matthew are some of the very first scriptures that I really took to heart.  We can't do anything about yesterday or tomorrow.  And today will take care of itself.  We all worry but some of us worry more than others.

Nita ~ Those gift cards are wonderful, aren't they?  At least if you don't get what you want, you only have yourself to blame.  We all have received gifts that when you open them, you think, why would so and so think I would want this?  I know I have but I smile and accept the gift as if it were the best thing I could ever receive.  And sometimes, I realize, it was!

Ruth ~ I remember fresh cow milk.  Mom always put our own use milk in Ball canning jars in the refrigerator.  We always had cereal or oatmeal for breakfast.  I would get the jar out of the fridge and pour it on my cereal and it was CREAM!  Yuck!  Or I would pour milk on my cereal and it was still warm from the cow.  I still can't drink milk today!  And I can't stomach any milk other than skim milk.  Oops!  I like do like ice cream, whipped cream, milk shakes, all those things but no milk to drink!

While I was still in bed this morning, I heard a droning noise.  Then I realized it was a tractor somewhere.  When I got up, the corn field west of me has been picked!  Now I can see the houses west of me.  When I went for the mail yesterday, the farmer was picking corner south of me about a half a mile.  Soon all the corn will be picked and we won't have the fear of cars not stopping when they should at crossroads.

It is raining and cloudy today.  A little warmer but still only 41°F.  I am taking Nancy and Walter to Indiana University this afternoon.  Nancy called me yesterday and asked if I could come down an hour early...she wants us to go to the new steak house in Greenfield for lunch.  That will be a treat!  We have all grown to be such great friends.

Morning all,

Such wonderful thoughts, it surely is in God's good time!

Everyone leads such interesting lives and always has so much to do. Hope all is well with everyone now.

Well, the news is in, I have multiple tears in the rotator cuff in the right shoulder. Now I have to see an orthopedist. So no work for now and no picking up Michael  :(  So we wait and see some more but at least we know what the problem is.

As for Michael, his anti-seizure med has been increased and no more seizures. God is so Good!!! <3

Well, everyone have a great day in the Lord and take care. Thanks for being here!

Etta sue, I think that "all" just appeared here yesterday, or maybe the day before.  For sure, it hasn't always been there!

I must wade into (pardon the pun) the cows' milk issue!  I learned to milk cows at the ripe old age of four, sitting on a rusty, beat-up bucket beside a cow in the corral (not even in the barn) and milking, holding the milk bucket between my knees.  I loved milk then, and still like it today---but NEVER warm, only icy cold!  Warm milk is yucky, but cats don't think so.  It was always fun to squirt the milk to the waiting cats, who would stand up on their hind legs and drink it as fast as they could, straight from the cow!  Funny to watch.  For many years, we separated the milk and sold only the cream, then later, Dad decided to improve to a Grade A dairy, and he installedc milking machines, improved the milk barn so it was easy to clean, and installed a huge (500 gallon) milk cooling tank.  The milk tanker truck came from Amarillo, about 150 miles to the south, to pick up the milk.  So I know a lot about the dairy business.  Don't ask me if I liked it!  ;)

Well, really, I never minded the work, except for the getting out of bed at 4 AM daily.  It was the confinement of it that chafed at us girls.  We couldn't go to a lot of school things, especially if it involved being away overnight, because those cows had to be milked!!  By the time I was in high school, we were milking from 75 to 85 cows, morning and evening.  I remember when we had that awful land-locked hurricane in 1956, our power was out, the barns were completely covered by snow, and we had to milk all those cows by HAND! :(  I remember when I finished milking about 25 or so and went into the house, my hands were so swollen I couldn't pick up my hairbrush.  We only managed to get them milked once a day until the power came back on--believe me, that was plenty!!  I was the only milk maid left at home at that time, so some of the guys had to help!!

TMI??  Sorry.  But thanks for the memories!  :)

I just called Beth and she is sore today, but otherwise okay.  The thing I hate the most is, that anytime she gets shaken up, it activates the neurofibromas into more active growth.   :(  But she is in God's hands, and He knows and cares.

Jeanine, you posted while I was typing, hello!  I'm so glad Michael's seizures are now under control, but sorry about your shoulder.  I hope you get the right help for it and find relief soon!

After I came back from working out I took a quick shower and went on to my Tai Chi class. Since I came home I have cooked a healthy dish of Macaroni, Tuna, Meta Greens, Garlic, Olive Oil and Parmesan Cheese. I went to take some to Mimi and she has gone to work.

Carol how is your kitchen coming along?

Janet I am so sorry to hear that Beth bruised herself and that the Neurofibromas will start to grow again. That girl has been through enough.

They are having a Thanksgiving dinner today at the Arcata Senior Center, I called to see if I could get on the list but there was no more room. When we had the one here at the local center, 60 extra people showed up than were on the list and the food had to be  cut short for everyone to make it go around.

Etta Sue it is 48° here and it is supposed to start raining again soon and it sure looks like it now.

Hi Jane, Nita, Larry, Pat, Kevin, and Jeanine.

Y-all take care now ya hear.

I re-read the message of patience.  Sometimes it is good to go over things a day later and find a new perspective.

Pat:  Have not mentioned it before but I really like your new picture.  It looks like you are almost peering around a corner, cute.

Janet:  Oh, good grief on reading about Beth's shocking fall.  It will be dicey at times when you have ice on the ramps as well but there is one good thing and that is you have lots of sunshine in your state so winter is more tolerable than if you lived way up north.

Marilyn:  What a busy gal - I should do Tai Chi as it would be good to lower blood pressure.  The kitchen is coming - we had countertops delivered today.  Yahoo....

Etta Sue:  I will try to do so when this get finished - I mean send a picture.  Thinking of the crossroads & a cousin lost her oldest son just a few years ago at one of those high corn crossroads - he was the one in ag. school preparing to run their huge farm & a really good church-going family.  In Minnesota.

Jeannine:  Your injury sounds very painful.   Take care.

Well, we are running down to the Boulder area to watch one of the grands sing in a choir concert tonight - he has a solo part.   Haven't had time to eat yet today & it is 1:30 P.M. - had to exchange the wrong toy I had picked up.  Daughter had a colonoscopy this morning & all of that is well.

A good friend (who had a heart transplant five years ago) now has breast cancer for the 2nd. time.  It is hard not to scream, Why Why Why?  She is in great spirits and begins radiation treatments.

Thanks for the comments about my new piccie!  Needed a change!

Please go to our Photos section.  Some nice ones by Muddy_Sneakers and Kevin today!

They are all being categorized into sections like "Landscapes / Travel" "Pets", "Wildlife", "People / Family / Friends", etc.

So if you can't find your old piccies, if they weren't broken links, I've moved them and am still moving them into the various categories.

See you there!

PAT!!  You look so pretty.  I love your new picture.  Did you find a way to set  the aging clock back?  You are beautiful.  Inside and out.

Jeannine, I'm so sorry about your shoulder.  Please take care of it.  It's going to be hard for you to obey doctor's order and no lifting....not even Michael.  Good news about the meds that are stopping seizures for him.  Yes, God is so good. :)

At the moment I'm watching a storm come in, and listening to God speak in His creation. :) :)   He's still teaching me about having a listening heart.

Janet, so you were a milk maid!  You surely know enough to know that you don't want to do it again. Right?  haha  Probably at the time, you just did what you had to do, because that's what your family did.  There's so much hard work on a farm or ranch.  That tells me a bit about why you are industrious now. :)  My sister's family has a ranch, and all of her kids are such hard workers, and bright as can be.  They work hard at home and at school.  They know HOW to work and the value of it.

I'm still doing my PSP lessons.  I started at the beginning and am just now into layering.  I want to know how it all works and not just follow a tutorial somewhere.   It's fun.

Carol, I know it's fun watching your kitchen come together. :)

Etta Sue, if I lived where you do, I'd probably be at the window all the time.  Always something going on in a field or somewhere.

ok, I'm heading to town.  I might even go to Walmart.  I don't like to go there as it's always so crowded.   I've been holding off on some things I need (probably want)so have to go sooner or later or pay the higher price elsewhere.

Blessings, nita

Hi everyone.  Just a brief stop as need to leave for choir in about 2 minutes.  We have had a terribly rainy day here and I had to go to Atlanta for a doctor's appointment and to meet our daughter briefly.  I stayed off the Interstate except for maybe 4 miles each way and didn't have any problem.  However, I was gone from 7:30 this morning until after 5 pm, with a brief time at noon when I ate lunch and left again.  I have choir tonight.

I also grew up on a dairy farm and I do not drink milk.  It needs to be in ice cream for me.

Good postings.  I had also noted the new "all"command and am happy to see it.

Till tomorrow.

Ruth

Hello eveyone:

Those of us that grew up on a farm not liking milk, why is that.  My hubby although he spent much time on a farm but could always go home (in town)  loves milk.  Just this evening he was saying how milk does have a different taste depending on the breed of animal.

Larry:  Honey pear jam I have not heard of. Honey I like very much but pears no way.

Janet: So sorry to hear that Beth had a fall. I sure hope that she is well very soon.

We are to get rain starting sometime this evening and it is to  continue for a few days.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Ruth Ann Bice

Yes, milk's taste does change according to the breed. And, I can detect faint changes in the taste of different brands of milk purchased at the grocery.

One of the parishioners in my dad's church worked at a huge dairy farm, so we always had the really rich guernsey cow milk. Certainly was good, and I loved to shake the jar of cream until it turned to butter, then turn it into my great grandmother's butter mold, let it get cold and then put that cute little round molded piece of butter with a buttercup carved in the top onto a saucer! It makes cakes and cookies much better, too.

Oh, well. That wonderful time of childhood is beyond most of us here, now, so we need to live in the here and now. However, aren't memories really special - we can pull them out and remember great little snippets of the past as we have need to do so.

Y'all have a good evening.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Janet

Larry, so we have something else in common, both being raised on dairy farms!  How about that?  I think all of my siblings still like milk, as do I.  Our neighbors used to come and buy raw milk by the gallons from us.  That was before the laws got so strict about pasteurization.

Ruth Ann, it is fun to recall the happy days (and even the not-so-happy ones) of childhood from the dim past, isn't it?  ;)  It sure is good to see you here more often!

Carol, that was a terrible loss for the family of the boy killed in a vehicle accident.  Sometimes it seems we lose the best and the brightest.  Our family has lost several young people in accidents, and it's such a terrible blow from which to recover.  Bet that new kitchen is going to be beautiful!

Pat, I really, really like that new piccie!  Now I need a new one.  I've gotten lots younger, too!  ;)

Time to go look at some photos!

I had a great and restful vacation. Now I'm back on the job in cloudy and rainy Michigan :'(
I think my motto during our stay in Sedona was "It's only digital!" I could not believe I took 500 photos with my camera in a week, and that's not including the photos my wife took with her film camera. Boy did I pay when I got prints.
I'm going to try to upload a few sometime when I can get access to a fast internet connection.

Hi everyone.  Just back from morning coffee and a quick stop at the grocery store for 3 items.  The rain has stopped but it is chilly here today.

My day will be pretty well occupied with attending two funerals, one at 11 am and another at 4 pm.  The one this morning is a man in our church who has been very ill for a long time.  The other is a dear friend and the wife of one of our original coffee buddies.  He passed away several years ago and then about three weeks ago his wife had a knee replacement and did fine but then her heart failed her.  She had come home two days ago but as they were taking her out of the ambulance she started having breathing problems and her daughter wanted her to go back to the hospital but she refused and then died about 3:30 yesterday morning.  She had been the secretary for our senior's group at the senior center ever since it started almost 11 years ago and was 87 years old, but you would never have known it.  We will miss her as she was a wonderful Christian lady, who I am told was a student of the Bible.

This afternoon at 2 pm I have Calvin Cove so it will be another busy day.

Pat is sick with a bad cold and has now gone back to bed as she just isn't feeling good.

Pat you don't have to doctor your photo as we all love you just as you are.  :)  However, I also like your new photo.  It is nice to change them once-in-a-while.

Smokeythedog, I don't think I envy you in having to work up 500 photos.  That could be very time consuming.

Janet, I agree with you on remembering the good and the bad as all of these experiences are what makes us what we are and have shaped our lives.  I can remember when I was growing up I would read a story about people having problems and I thought all of that just fiction and then I grew up and reality hit.  I am sure we all can relate to that as adults.  However, if there were not valleys in life how would we ever appreciate the peaks.

Ruth Ann, I remember some that homemade butter.  It was delicious and then oleo came along.  I prefer real butter and have to believe it is more healthy for us than the plastic stuff we call oleo.

Ruth, I don't believe pear honey has any honey in it but is a mixture of pears and pineapple.  My mother used to can it and we could enjoy it all winter along with the strawberry preserves she made.

Guess I had better move on as it will soon be time to leave for the first funeral.  See you all tomorrow.

Marilyn said, "Where are you, Al?"  Well, I shall answer that question quite succinctly - I am HERE.  I seem to have contracted a cold, however, so now I'm praying and working toward enough relief from that so that we can successfully accomplish our trip to Davis, CA next Wed. through Mon. morning, including three preaching occasions.  So - all you brothers/sisters - please pray to that end.  I'll be going this AM to Long's drugstore to talk to the pharmacist about something that could successfully unplug my nasal passages at night (so I can sleep) and during the day long enough to preach, etc.

Hello all! I am up and around a bit today, I had to be due to a Dr's appointment so I thought I would stop by here. He said that everything is looking good but I still need to stay in bed  :( I will be so happy when I have this one so I can get back to running and biking and taking care of Danny and the new one. We have been trying to come up with names but haven't totally decided on anything yet. Well Jacob is getting mad that I am still up and around so I guess I must be off. Hope everyone has a good day and I shall be back around eventually. Lots of Love until I do.

Oh, the drive back from Bloomington yesterday wasn't fun at all.  Lots of rain and the reflections were a thousand feet long!  Double whammey!

Today is still rain and my sump pump is doing its job.  Funny to hear it turn on and off.  I will get used to it.

Back to milking.  I never learned to milk...at least, Mom and Dad didn't think I could.  Ivalou and Kaye Don told me if I learned to milk, I would have to help every morning and evening.  So I didn't learn... ;)  Remember they were nine and seven years older than me.  They were watching out for their little sister.   ::)  The most cows we ever had was 10 and we did have an electric milker but it must not have worked right because it wasn't used for very long...back to the two hands working.  I remember Kaye Don giving the line up of cats milk.  I thought that was so funny.  And all the cows were named....Betsy, Ruth, Snicklefritz, Brownie, Friday, Saturday, etc.  And the milk was carried to the Milk House, where their was a trough we filled with cold water to keep the milk cans of milk cool until the milk man came.  When it was told for us to sell Grade A milk, we would have to get a cooler, that's when we stopped having dairy cows...1960.  We didn't have enough cows to make that profitable.  But lots of memories being raised on a farm...lots of them.

Ivalou and I just got back from having lunch, going to the bank and shopping at Dollar General.  Tonight Kitty, her sister-in-law, Cherie, Judy, a friend and I are going to Eiteljorg Museum in downtown Indianapolis to listen to a photography seminar by photographer Rick Sammon.  Should be very interesting.  I am driving so pray that it quits raining!!

Good morning!  :coffee:

I'll be fairly busy for the next few days, but then things will settle for a while.

This morning, I had to turn on the living room heater for the first time this year.

This is part of what I enjoyed with my coffee this morning...not a donut, but really sweet!

Every priest goes to work at the altar each day, offers the same old sacrifices year in, year out, and never makes a dent in the sin problem.  As a priest, Christ made a single sacrifice for sins, and that was it! Then he sat down right beside God and waited for his enemies to cave in.  It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people. By that single offering, he did everything that needed to be done for everyone who takes part in the purifying process... from Hebrews 10

Lots of farm memories, did anyone have a rooster chase them, I was a youngun at the time and was I scared.   Another was collecting the eggs that was a good memory.   Another was playing with the baby mice that were under the stooked grain.  Our cows were milked by hand and that was a dad and  mom job, it seems that I was too little or not strong enough not sure which.

Ruth Ann:  Thanks for letting us know that the taste of  milk does vary  with the different bred of cow.

I think perhaps I will do a little reading and some knitting.

My husband's family owned a small farm and had a pet goat, Susie. She REALLLLLY had big horns, and took a dislike to me. So, there were times that I left the farm with big bruises on my legs or posterior. She would not be around when you'd get out of the car, but the walk to the house was maybe 100 feet, and by the time you'd arrive there, she could sneak up and butt you without ever making a sound!

Good evening, everyone.  I wasn't raised on a farm but I've been chased by a rooster, and a goose...the worst is to be chased by a hornet.  You just can't be nice and talk him out of it like you can a goose.  :D

Colin, I see you were here.....looking for your tea....and I missed you.  So you can't find your china cup here, eh?  You have to bring your own cup.  Did Pat forget to tell you that?   ;D

It's been a lovely day here on the Oregon coast.  I even wandered into Walmart with my daughter and found some candles, a few Christmas picks, and........I forget what else.  We went to the Dollar Store and picked up a few things.  Everywhere is Christmas!!

I guess I'll go find my two sticks and get a fire started.  It's sort of cool out here on the  farm. :)  Nita

Ruth ~ Yes, I have been chased by the mean ol' rooster.  And I was the one that had to go get the chicken after Mom pulled its head off AFTER it stopped flopping around the yard.  Everytime I bent to grab a leg, it would flop again!!  :ticked:  And I remember we had our corn in shocks (I think that's how it is spelled...teepee like shaped).  They were taking them down and I found a bunch of baby mice.  I carried them to the house.  Put a hanky in a big matchbox and put my family in the matchbox.  I went to sleep with them beside my bed that night.  BUT they were gone in the morning...box and all.  Bet my Mom had something to do with that!!

The Rick Sammon Seminar was great.  A little over my head.  I don't have a Canon and I sure don't spend that amount of money for any kind of equipment but he sure did have some wonderful photos that he had taken all over the world.  And I like it that he showed the original photo and then the photo after PhotoShop..I use Paint Shop Pro...about the same thing except called apples instead of oranges.  He gave a lot of tips and one thing I liked is he centered about all his shots!  I am a stickler for centering!  Especially if I have filled the frame!

Bright and sunny here in Indiana today!  Really bright!!  But only 34°F.  The sump pump is still going on and off so that means the ground is saturated with moisture!  Lots of moisture.

A little watercolour I did of an
arch on the Coast Road, Co. Antrim, NI

THE JOURNEY HOME

Footsteps I am following of the One who goes before
Leading me ever nearer to Heaven's golden shore
Soon the narrow way I will no longer roam
For I am reaching the end of the journey home

Once I heard my Saviour calling; come and walk with me
And if you take my hand; Heaven bound you will be
No easy path I promise; but I am with you to stay
On your journey home; each step of the way

Steep have been the hillsides my weary feet have trod
But I am treading in the footprints of the Son of God
Life's raging sea has drowned me in its tormented billowing foam
And the winds of strife have buffeted on my journey home

The sun is often covered by darkened clouds above
But my hand is gripped by the One I love
He picks me up when I stumble; He hears my gasping breath
Soon I know I will walk with Him through the valley of death

Weary one; He will whisper; soon it will be the end
A few more steps to take and then you shall ascend
Far above the height of sky's blue sunlit dome
And a mansion is waiting for you at the end of the journey home

I am staying out of the way of the guy working on our kitchen and it is nice and quiet in my sewing room in the basement.  He is putting my sink in today & the stove will be in by afternoon.  We have been running errands finding the right caulk and the right grout and so many little things.  Learning a lot & it will be forgotten just as quickly.

Marilyn:  That is an interesting sauce on the chicken you cooked.  You always have good ideas.

Janet:  Barking dogs  ;D  good one!

Al:  Just said a prayer for you - that this cold ends quickly so you will have a nice trip.

Colin Thank you for posting such a beautiful poem and your watercolor. You have just made my day so much more than I can tell you in words. It has warmed my heart deeply nd brought tears to my eyes. Thanks you so much.

Colin - last, but hopefully not least, I want to WELCOME you to this forum!  I really loved your poem, and I've quoted from it here.  I quoted that particular portion because it's a wonderful use of words to reflect the music of true poetry.  I can hear in my mind someone with a melodius and resonant voice saying these wondrous things:

QuoteLife's raging sea has drowned me in its tormented billowing foam
And the winds of strife have buffeted on my journey home

The painting is quite good also.

Colin

Hi everbody...at last I am begining to get the hang of things! I have been through all the last five pages and read all your lovely welcomes and comments. Now I can return to you all; my hearfelt thanks. I was not ignoring all your welcomes..I did not know that they were there!!  :idiot: Pat has been a very patient teacher and guide and also she understands Irishmen! She did set me out a china cup but she knows rightly I would prefer a mug. She might even say; a mug for a mug!  :coffee:
Right...me! I live near the little village of Portglenone in the beautiful Co. Antrim countryside. My home is a semi-detached two storey house with a half acre garden attached. I have about half of it landscaped and the rest it is left to nature for the wildlife. I am 52 years old and my birthday is the 15th of December so that will give you time to have a cake baked for me! Marlene; my wife; is just one day older than me and we have been married 30years. We have two sons...Steven the oldest at 23 and Gregory aged 19. I worked recently as a full time gardener but a bad back has put paid to that. I struggle to look after my own garden now. Apart from gardening; I write poems...mostly Christian ones; because I must use what little talent I have for my Lord and Saviour...but I do write other poems as well. Some are funny or about nature etc. I love painting also and it is very relaxing. I also like listening to music and play some musical instruments and I also enjoy reading. I am not a photographer but I like taking photos...especially of nature. I intend to buy a new digitial camera soon. Well that is a little about myself. It will be lovely to get to know you all through time and I know I will enjoy myself my here.
God bless you all

Hi everyone.  Colin, so nice to see you posting and thanks for sharing of your talents by showing us your painting and poetry.  Sorry to hear of your back problems.

I certainly hope I never need to attend two funerals in one day again.  I was emotionally drained by the end of the second one and actually went to bed around 8:15 last night intending to read awhile and couldn't stay awake.  So I had a nice long rest.

Happy to be able to report that my wife's cold seems better today.  She did get out today attending a meeting, got her hair cut and stopped at the library.  I think the getting out did her a lot of good.  Tomorrow she has the first of three classes that came with her new sewing computer (they don't call it a sewing machine).  She knew if she didn't get out today she probably would have trouble standing up to the three hour class tomorrow.

I attended a special meeting involving our SeniorNet Computer Learning Center.  We had one of the leaders from the national office visit with us to learn about what we are doing and also to provide an overview from the national office.  We felt it was a worthwhile meeting.

I am looking forward to a quieter weekend than this week has been.  I had thought it wasn't going to be very busy when it started but life happens.

We are finally seeing the sun this afternoon but it is suppose to be quite chilly this weekend.

I need to balance my checkbook as the bank says I don't have as much in the account as my checkbook says so I must have failed to record something.  I like to have it penny percise.  See you all tomorrow.

Janet

For some reason I am not getting email notifications for this thread.  Sort of unhandy getting here via the back alleys!  :( ;)  But here I am, anyway.

Colin, I love your sense of humor!  And also your painting and your poem.  I hope we get to see more of all of those!  I also love painting, as does Liz.

By the way, Liz.........where are you?  I miss you!  :'(

Carol, it sounds like your beautiful new kitchen will soon be a reality!  Goody, goody!  :)

Pat, don't you hate that kind of nights?  I no longer have restless leg syndrome, thanks to Reliv, but I sure do know what it is like.  Hope you get rested up soon.  We need our beauty rest!  (At least I do!)

I was 32 posts behind so can't remember what everyone has posted today, but I did read all of them.  Now I must get back to work!

Janet, I didn't realize that if we don't get email notifications, and come here anyway, we are coming in via the back alleys!!  Sheesh.  I thought I was on the freeway.  Or at least coming right up to the front door.  All along I've been using back alleys and coming in the back door.   :uglystupid:

I agree with others about Colin's poetry and watercolor.  Very nice.  Colin, have you seen any of Janet's work?  I think she has some in her gallery.  If you can find your way there, via the back alleys..haha...have a look.

Larry, I am right there with you on "penny percise". Why keep records if they aren't accurate?  I'll spend an hour looking for that 4 cents mistake.  And when I find it, I feel a deep satisfaction.

My sister is still in California visiting her daughter's family, so I'll pick up her paycheck today and deposit it for her.

I'll see you later.  Nita

Hi, friends,

I'm so thankful I got to check on this discussion a couple of times at work today. It makes me feel more a part of things, but am not allowed to participate in discussion groups at work, or the site will be blocked.

Also, I'm thankful for a busy, but stress free day. And, since I was doing lots of cataloguing and filing of things, my boss came out of his office door and noticed I was on tiptoe stretching very hard to get folders filed on the top lateral file shelf.

He took over and filed all the folders himself. I had them in order, but it certainly was nice for him to give me a hand like that.

Y'all have a good evening.

I am sitting here with a piece of Dark Chocolate in my mouth that a friend gave me today mmmm it sure is good.

Larry glad to hear that Pat is feeling better ad enough to get out and about today.

Colin it is so nice to ha ve you joining us here here where we all get together every day. Thank for telling us more about yourself. I live in California up close to the Oregon border, on the coast. I have enjoyed seing your photos and your paintings.

:-[ Well, Nita......I tried going to the index, via IE,  no luck, and then several other ways, finally had to read the posts in tiny print and then post, before things got back to normal.   :-\  I guess I just need a new road map.

I have spent a few more hours working on my China scrapbook, and have packed up stuff to take to the library tomorrow to work on it more, with friends.  There is a big craft show in town tomorrow, too, so we will take a break and go to that for a while.

Today is my eldest sister's 71st birthday, so I called to wish her a happy one, and we had a nice visit.  She lives in Nebraska.

I need to be heading to bed, goodnight all!  :sleepy:

HANDS ACROSS THE WATER

With His mighty hands across the water
God divided the deep sea from the earth
And He took such time and patience
Forming this beautiful land of my birth
He made the forests and each rolling hillside
Gently spread the silent valleys in between
And with His hands across the wide glens
Painted them with forty shades of green

He set the majestic Giant's Causeway
Along Antrim's Atlantic sprayed coast
To array Ireland with such beauty
He dressed her with jewels the most
And when He was satisfied and had finished
I imagine God beamed with a smile
When He looked at the result of His creation
This beautiful green Emerald Isle

Her high mountains speak of God's majesty
Her waterfalls tell of blessings cascading from above
All of her nature sings His praises
For Ireland has been kissed by the sunshine of His love
Then why should you ever wonder
That Irish people; kind hearted; are the best
We have great singers; for we have songs to sing
To tell of what riches we are blest

We sing of the beauty of our land
Of God's love and amazing grace
And our hearts are also lifted to Him
For settling us in this wonderful place
And I ask for you God's blessing
Though you are afar of; it does not matter
God will take my love and His own to you
Carried by His marvellous hands across the water

:coffee:    Good morning to you all! I have been up for ages and ages! Made my own breakfast and lit a big coal fire because it would freeze you here. We had some snow yesterday but I think it is going to get a little milder for the weekend.
Right!....I was wanting to ask you all one very important question! Every time I have visited I have not got my tea.. well Pat did set me out a cup.. but what I want to know is....where does it indicate in the Bible that a man has to make the tea? Now it really does! I had this pointed out to me by a lady and I was astounded. Now; as an Irishman; I understood it completely and so should Pat; but maybe you make tea different than we do here. Anyway; I will leave it with you!
Must go now and put more coal on the fire. Brrrrr! See you later!
God bless

Colin ~ It is a joy to read your posts, your poetry and gaze at your paintings.  I am so happy you have joined us here.  And you ask where it is in the Bible that men should make the tea?  There is a whole chapter in the Bible about that!  It is called He-brews!   :coffee:

Carol ~ It sounds like soon you will be a-baking, and a-cookin' in your beautiful new kitchen.  I feel each day you are getting more anxious to see the end results.

Janet ~ Sounds like you had one of those cyber glitches when you weren't getting the notifications.  On my Desktop, I have a calender with last month and next months also.  It was gone!  I don't remember where I got it but since it was gone, I really missed it.  The next day it was back.  Those cyberspooks can be challenging!

Ruth Ann ~ Does that mean you can read other sites at work...just not post or respond to them?  At least, if you can, you can break up your day with other things besides work.  How nice of your boss to help you file.  Is retirement in your near future?

Nita ~ Email notifications you scramble to the posts.  Without them you amble to the posts.  Sometimes you scramble, sometimes you amble.  That's life, isn't it?

Larry ~ I am with you.  I attended two funerals in one day once and I hope I never have to do that again.  Too taxing on your nerves and emotions.  I am so glad that Pat is better and able to attend her lesson for her sewing computer.

Al ~ Isn't it wonderful how God gave us words of poetry?  I am not even a poetry person but I enjoy poetry when it is read out loud.  Even when I read it out loud! (It has to rhyme or it isn't poetry to me!)

Marilyn ~ You certainly keep busy.  It would take more than a couple of hours to clean my house and you do yours at home and for others as well.

Pat ~ I know I don't say it enough but I truly want to thank you for this website and also for all the help you give to others.  You are one of a kind and I ask God to bless you every day.

Jane and Liz and all the others ~ I know you are reading and lurking.  Where are you?  Come join us!  Just praying that everything is okay with you and yours.

Kevin ~ You posted while I was composing.  Have a great night's rest so you can be bright and chipper for the Lord tomorrow!

It started out sunny and has now turned to gloomy.  Tonight is the Christmas lights lighting in Lapel at 6 pm.  I may go and I may not.  Haven't decided yet.  Also need to go to Staples to purchase some large labels.  I bought 9" x 12" envelopes to put my calenders in but they won't fit in my printer.  So I want large labels so I can print the       'To' names and some clip art.  I would wait until after church tomorrow but Greenfield doesn't have a Staples, Office Depot or such store.

Janet

Colin, your poem makes me want even more to visit your beautiful country!  And, as Etta Sue said, there is that whole book in the Bible called He-brews!  ;)  By the way, how do you Irishmen like your tea?  Black?  Cream?  Cream and sugar??  If you will tell me, I will make you a cuppa... :coffee:.....but it might be cold before it gets there.  :-\

We went to pick up our Share, and this month's is a whole Thanksgiving dinner---turkey, pumpkin pie, stuffing mix, gravy mix, celery, apples, onions, sweet potatoes and white potatoes.  Oh, green beans, too.  And next month's is the Christmas dinner, with both a beef roast and a pork roast and all the other stuff.  Pretty nice deal!

I am off for a day of scrapbooking, and have high hopes of finishing my China album today.

I won't even attempt to explain all the convolutions I went through trying to get here via IE, but it was a mess.  : >:(  I am happy my email notifications are back now.

See you later.

Colin

Hi Janet; lovely to meet you. How do us Irishmen like our tea? mmmm....let me see. Do not make fortnight tea because it is too weak ( two week!) and no Shamrock tea either for it is only made with three leaves!  ;D I like my tea strong but not stewed and with milk. No sugar as I am absolutely so sweet as it is!
Throw in a few creams buns Janet and that will be brill. Thank you. You and Etta are too crafty! HE- BREWS. I think so!

Hi Colin...

When we lived over there and we used to go down to the Maze to visit Jack's elderly grandfather, whenever we came through the door, Granda would go to the teapot that was at the back of the hob and lift the lid and put in another spoonful of loose tea.  Then he'd put more boiling water in it.

I'm telling you that this tea was the strongest I have ever had to put past my mouth but I'd never tell him that I couldn't stand it.  That pot might be on the back of the hob all week before he'd start another pot!

Colin, I love your poem.  It's just so nice.

You simply MUST get a new little digital camera and go out and get some shots of the Giant's Causeway and Fairhead and other places.  I'm so homesick.  Whitepark Bay and Sheep's Island and Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge and...  Oh, I must stop!

Etta Sue, thank you so very much for your kind words.  Love you!  <3

Hi Pat; That really was strong tea! Worse than tar! So glad you liked my poem.I thought it might bring back memories to you. Do you know...I have never been on that rope bridge and only about once at the Giants Causeway! I live a sheltered life!  :(   A digital camera!? ...and sure Christmas is just around the corner! I might get one for a present and pigs might fly!  ;D

I will buy some postcards and photo them with my mobile and post them on my blog. Will that console you a little. Ok then ..dry you eyes.. :'(

Etta Sue, now I understand perfectly.  I am a born ambler, and never a scrambler(not since my kids stopped jumping off things or falling off bikes, and don't get chased by roosters anymore). lol :)

A lovely poem, Colin.  I'm going to print it so that Kim can see it too.

Janet, I'm with Pat.  Not sure what you're saying about the index and IE.  I use Firefox, bookmarked  CP, have the link up on my links bar, and come to the front page to start looking at posts.  That's all I do.  I hope it's better for you now.  I wonder what caused the small font?

Have a blessed rest of the day, family in Christ.  Nita

Oh, I can see some great things coming from our NEW comedy trio of Colin-Etta Sue-Janet.  Hebrews, indeed!  Thanks for putting a grin on me this early Sunday morning.

Actually, most Japanese like their tea, GREEN.  I'm more of a coffee fan, but a nice straight Earl Grey I could never say "no" to.

Speaking of that book, here's what I am reading and thinking on this morning, from the NLT.

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.  God gave his approval to people in days of old because of their faith.  By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God's command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

My mother in law also made the most horrible iced tea I ever tried to get down. She would boil it to death and it would be SO bitter she couldn't even hide the horrid taste with sugar.

I love tea, but most likely don't brew it as strong as others like it. Tea is one of my passions - I love herbal varieties, and many black and white teas as well. It's such a luxury to sit with a steaming cuppa tea and enjoy watching life as it happens out of my window.

Today has been a wonderful, sunny day - no stress, not much pain, good friends to eat with for lunch, my favorite grocery sacker to help me out to the truck, and then my son, who's been terribly depressed this week, met me at the door and took over the bring-in-the-bags-of-groceries job. It was so great to see him on his feet and doing so much better today.

Y'all have a good afternoon. I'm heading out to go to get a haircut.

Christmas

Our Lord Jesus came to earth,
Came by human, lowly birth,
Came and set His glory by,
Left His Throne above the sky!

Man, rebellious to his Lord -
'Gainst Christ's Father, so adored -
Yet He came for them to die
On the Cross uplifted high!

Bless your Lord all you who know
How He brought God's love below!
Christmas is a time to praise
Christ Who came lost man to raise!

Colin

Glad I had a little look in before I went to bed! First of all; lovely poem Al. I really like it. Thank you for thinking about me. A comedy trio Kevin? I thought you could not count when I saw four names and then realised Etta Sue is doubled barreled...and that is enough said about that! Now my wife has a birthday coming up next month and she was looking in a dress shop window in the town today.
Oh darling; she said to me; I would love to get into something long and flowing for my birthday. So I threw her into a river! She was mad!  :ticked: I cant seem to please her!

MARLENE

Marlene was standing by a full-length mirror
In her underwear
I peeped at her from below the blankets
As she stared at her reflection there

Oh look at me; she moaned
I'm going grey and fat
My bust is saggy; I'm getting wrinkles
And I hate the way my backsides sticks out like that

I've a double chin going on three
I just feel and look ugly and old
I raised my head from the pillow
As I listened to her rant and scold

Marlene my darling; it's not so bad
I said; before she came to turn out the light
Many things are wrong but at least you know
There is nothing wrong with your eyesight!

Colin Moffett

Actually; I love my wife dearly and the best way I can sum up our marriage is that it was a thirty year honeymoon and we are still going strong. God has blessed us greatly and when a marriage is based on God's word...it will never go far wrong. Excuse my little bit of humour. it is just the way I am. I will be more serious the next time I visit!
God bless and goodnight.

Colin I copied the one you posted yesterday and sent it off to a friend in the UK and a couple of other friends here in the states.

I haven't been doing much today, I went to curves to workout at 8 thismorning while there I got in a little bit of Tai Chi and some stretching. I took a bag of groceries for the needy to put in the bin at Curves.

I have been busy uploading some files to RapidShare to share with my Stationery group, that sure took up a lot of time.

Yesterday I mowed for the last time this year, next will be the maintenance on the mower. drain the gas, clean the underside, change the oil. No I am not doing it myself. Bill across the street will probably do it for me.

This has been a day of much sadness and many tears.  It was necessary to have our cat, Mr. Tiggers, put to sleep.  I think I mentioned a few days ago his cries of pain one night like something we had never heard.  We now believe he had a heart attack and since then has been in decline and it wasn't obvious until the last 24 hours.  He hadn't been eating the last day or so and this morning he wasn't waiting at the door to come into the house from the garage but stayed in his basket until I went out.  I called the vet and they said they could see him at 10 am.  I took him and the vet said she needed to do blood work and an x-ray and when she came back she said he had serious problems in that his adominal cavity and the area around his lungs were filled with fluid.  He was having trouble breathing and she said I should consider putting him to sleep so he didn't suffer.

Since Pat wasn't with me as she was attending her sewing machine class I said I wouldn't make the decision on the spare of the moment but authorized her to remove some fluid from around his lungs so he could breathe more easily and be more comfortable.  I came home and within the hour she called me back saying she had done an ultrasound before removing the fluid and his heart was hardly beating and there really was no choice but to stop his suffering and not put him through the fluid removal, which really wouldn't solve anything.  So I told her to go ahead and stop the suffering.

After Pat got home I told her and we decided we had to go ahead and call our daughter.  We did this and she took it very hard as this was her cat and she really loved him.  Needless to say this has been a difficult day.  I sent her the "Rainbow Bridge" piece and hope that it will help her when she has a chance to see it.  We spoke with her again about an hour ago and she is still in tears but fully understands we did what had to be done for Mr. Tigger's comfort and that he probably wouldn't have lasted the weekend.

I apologize for this being such a downer but I know we all can relate to this experience and you are my good friends.  I am not looking for sympathy but just wanted to share as I have spoken of Mr. Tiggers many times in the past.  Thanks for reading.  This has been some kind of year.

Al Moak

Somehow, even this will pass, Larry.  Our God is still Sovereign of the universe - with every largest and every supposedly insignificaant event.  He knew this was coming, but He sees beyond it, and He sees it in the whole scheme of things - and He loves you, Pat, and your daughter.  He allowed this for reasons we can't know now, but they are perfect reasons.  Thank Him for the time you had with Mr. Tiggers.  Thank Him for everything about him that delighted you and others.  Thank Him for all His gifts.  Throught Jesus Christ our Lord.

Janet

Larry, just a big ((((hug)))) for you.  I'm sorry you had such a rough day, and will be keeping you, Pat and Stacey in my thoughts and prayers.  I'm sure all of us here have experienced the  loss of a beloved pet at some time in our lives.  God gives us those little critters to love and they bring us so much joy.  But the parting is always painful.  I'm glad you feel comfortable allowing us, as your friends, the opportunity to share your pain.

Thank you so much for sharing  with  us, we are you famly too.

I, too, empathize, Larry. We had to have our sweet Huskie dog put to sleep because of her cancer recently. We still really miss her. It's good, though, to remember the great times and what great pets they have been.

I am so sorry, Larry.

I can't even imagine the pain and hurt that you are going through.  Please accept my condolences.  It's wonderful how we have our pets to love and they love us right back.  I know you're going to miss Mr. Tiggers.

Larry ~ God bless you and Pat and Stacey in your loss of your precious furkid, Mr. Tiggers.  I don't remember that loss but I know I will some day with having Ali Cat and Inky.  I remember this past summer when I thought I might not see Ali again.  So you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Colin

Hi Larry; sorry about the loss of your cat. I understand a little of how you must be feeling. Our beautiful Patch..an English Springer Spaniel... was killed by a car this year in February. We had him 12 years and he was such a pet! A car had hit him; but had drove on. They told a neighbour man; who was out walking; they had hit a dog and he came to my door to tell me. I found poor Patch in the front garden; where he had crawled to; and carried him into the front of the fire. I knew he was dying. Marlene spoke to him and he lifted his head for the last time and then he passed away. I was glad I had got him to the fire and he died with the ones who loved him. It was better than dying in the garden alone. He was buried the next day down in a sheltered spot in my main garden. Such tears were shed that day. Marlene and the boys were reluctant to see him getting buried but finally I had to cover him over. We miss him so much.
God bless you Larry. I feel for you

Good morning, it's a great day for  rejoicing in the Lord.  So let's all rejoice today and talk about the things that we are rejoicing.

I am rejoicing because  this s the day the Lord hath made and I will rejoice and be glad in it.
I am rejoicing because God has given me another day on his earth, and awakened me with eyes that can see, ears that hear, feet and legs that take me where he wants me to go, hands and arms to reach out and be his hands extended.

I am rejoicing because he has given me a house to live in, where I can be safe from the outside elements, He has given me food to eat, clothing to wear. He has given me a healthy body and sound mind, my two dogs to keep me company and to love and nurture, who love me back.

I am rejoicing to be near at least one of my children and two of my grandchildren, and good friends and church family too. God has given me a car to drive ,enough income to  give my full tithe and pay all my bills. He has given me some of His children to care for who can't take care of themselves anymore.

I am the blessed child of the living God. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. There is nothing that is impossible with God in my life.

Have a great day.

SUNSHINE IN MY HEART

I will sing.... Rejoice
Praise with voice
For despair it did depart
Jesus made me whole
Saved my soul
And give me sunshine in my heart
Skies are grey
No sunny ray
The rain weeps from darkened cloud
But I go along
Sing a happy song
And praise my Lord aloud

Now burdens lifted
New life is gifted
A prisoner from sin set free
I called His name
My Saviour came
And took my guilt from me
The veil of tears
The lonely years
I knew them o so long
But with gentle touch
He changed so much
And give me this new song

I am redeemed
Of happiness dreamed
He gives to me and more
I asked Him in
He washed from sin
My Jesus whom I adore
I came through grace
Found a resting place
In the One who does impart
His righteousness to me
By His blood set free
And puts this sunshine in my heart

You are right Marilyn. We have so much to be thankful for...and best of all...we have Jesus in our hearts. How can we not rejoice! By the way Marilyn..it is afternoon with me and the day is going great. Listening to lovely gospel songs at moment. They always lift the spirits. Take care and God bless

I'm sitting here crying after reading your post Colin about Patch.  I'm sorry for both you and Larry.  As I'm sitting here right now, Lauren my cat has her head on my left foot and Geordie, my dog, is lying right across my right one and they are nearly always this close.  Can't even begin to imagine life without them.

So happy you got Patch to the fire one last time, Colin.

I also remember an Irish Setter we had when I was a teenager.  His name was Sandy and when he died, in 1958, my Dad buried him in the back garden.

Well, many, many years later, my father was rototilling the back garden and saw something sparkle briefly in the sun and it was a very rusted copper tag that had been around Sandy's neck on his collar for the Dog Pound and so my Dad shined it up and gave it to me and I have it to this day on my key ring.  Memories!

Hi Pat; I had tears in my eyes typing my post about Patch. I have a poem written about him somewhere. I wrote it through his eyes as he might see me. I have him on camcorder film. I wish I could see his big ears flapping one more time.
I really feel for Larry. Pets become part of the family and we take them into our hearts.  God bless Pat    :'(

Larry; the hurt does ease a little through time and you find yourself smiling at all the fond memories. When I sat on the summer seat; Patch would sit up beside me like a judge. He loved getting his photo took. He was such a poser!
Take care..God bless

Just was sitting here humming this hymn.  Thought we could all sing it together on this Lord's Day.

Give of Your Best to the Master
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Howard B. Grose, 1851-1939
Musician:  Charlotte A. Barnard, 1830-1869

Out of all your gifts ye shall offer every
heave offering of the LORD, of all the best thereof,
even the hallowed part thereof out of it.
Numbers 18:29

Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth.
Throw your soul's fresh, glowing ardor
Into the battle for truth.
Jesus has set the example,
Dauntless was He, young and brave.
Give Him your loyal devotion;
Give Him the best that you have.

Refrain

Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth.
Clad in salvation's full armor,
Join in the battle for truth.

Give of your best to the Master;
Give Him first place in your heart.
Give Him first place in your service;
Consecrate every part.
Give, and to you will be given;
God His beloved Son gave.
Gratefully seeking to serve Him,
Give Him the best that you have.

Refrain

Naught else is worthy His love.
He gave Himself for your ransom,
Gave up His glory above.
Laid down His life without murmur,
You from sin's ruin to save.
Give Him your heart's adoration;
Give Him the best that you have.

Refrain

Marilyn ~ Our congregation recited Psalm 118:24 today in church.  Sounded so good when God's children recited together.

Just got home.  After church I ate at a Steak House and had grilled chicken breast, baked sweet potato and salad...brought half of it home for one of my meals tomorrow.  Then I had to put gas in the car.  Then grocery shopping at WalMart.

When I got home, Ivalou called and asked if I would like to go with her to wrap shoe boxes filled with goodies for people in the Appalachians.  So I went with her.  This lady takes over 400 filled shoe boxes a year to the Appalachians.  Then she takes some to Anderson, Indiana, the county seat of where she lives which is the county next to me.  It felt wonderful to help today.   I wrapped a bar of soap in a wash cloth and put them in a plastic baggie.  Feels good.

Now I am ready to get my feet up and my body reclined!

I hope all of you are enjoying the blessings of our Lord on this, His day!

We went to Sunday School and church, and had a larger than usual attendance.  It is so good to see the church growing!

This was on the back of our bulletin a few Sundays ago, I wanted to share it with you here:

                      Letter From a Friend

I am writing to say how much I care for you and to say how much I want you to know me better.

When you awoke this morning, I exploded a brilliant sunrise through your window, hoping to get your attention, but you rushed off without even noticing.

Later, I noticed you were walking with some friends, so I bathed you in warm sunshine and perfumed the air with nature's sweet scent, and still you didn't notice me.

As you passed by, I shouted to you in a thunderstorm and painted a beautiful rainbow in the sky, and you didn't even look.

In the evening, I spilled moonlight onto your face and sent a cool breeze to rest you.

As you slept, I watched over you and shared your thoughts, but you were unaware that I was so near.

I have chosen you and hope you will talk to me soon.  Until then, I remain near.  I am your friend and love you very much.

--Your Friend, Jesus--

I pray we all, ME especially--will be more aware of our Lord's love and caring, and talk to Him more.  We need to let Him know we care about Him, too.

Hello from a very soggy Vancouver Island!  We have been drenched with one-third as much rain as we usually get in an entire year :(  Some say the only thing keeping the shingles on the roof is the driving rain.  Of course the rest of the country doesn't take our weather seriously.....if we say it is raining really hard, they ask if we need grief counsellers.  Course we don't need block heaters for the cars, but BC Transit is thinking about lashing its drivers to the steering wheel on some routes, so they won't be swept away into the churning waters.... ;)

At least my daughter & SIL are happily soaking up the sun in Maui now.  They went on a much needed holiday...hope Wendy will be able to travel okay.  That is always a worry.  Won't be back until Dec. 03 and I am busy looking after two cats, 7 Bunnies and my granddaughter...who is either in college or working weekends.  So feeling lonely, trying to stay happy and hugging poor Squeek(cat) as she desperately misses Wendy.  Since Misty is my cat, she couldn't care less!

Larry, I am so sorry about Mr. Tiggers.  Since we share a mutual love of animals, can relate to your pain.  And it is painful.  Pets bring us such joy and I do believe that God sends them along to make our lives better.

Colin, I am enjoying your poems, jokes and pictures.  I hope to clear away all the work and get back to my watercolors soon.  Liked your painting.  The colors are lovely.  Used to write poetry.   Sometimes even woke at night and started to scribble down this and that.....mind has become rather an empty space lately.

Marilyn, I loved what you wrote.  Made me feel real good.  Etta Sue, your posts usually make me feel hungry...you have such interesting days and they seem to mostly end with delicious meals.  Yum!

Janet, I come to read from time to time...or lurk.  Have not had a lot to say, so say a prayer or two, then leave.  Must post some comments in the gallery.  Saw Kamat's children, went to her sites, saw Sonifo's name under DPC, went and admired her beautiful pictures and lovely children.  Stopped to check on Nards and little Tiger.  So many folks not posting now.  I also miss them.  Like Papa John....Sarah, etc.

Time to go, ironing awaits.

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Liz

CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Liz, it's so good to hear from you.  Ever since this heavy rain started for you, I've wondered how you were coping.  All our news has been full of it and now the thing about boiling water?  Does this affect you?

Hi everyone.  Thank you all for the wonderful and comforting thoughts you expressed.  Yesterday was a day of grief over one of God's gifts to us in the form of a loving pet but today I am sensing gratitude over the many happy memories I have from having had Mr. Tiggers.  I must say, and my wife commented the same thing when we got home from church, that the house seems really quiet and rather empty.  It wasn't that Mr. Tiggers was noisey but he always was there and insisting on his way.

Marilyn, I liked your expression of gratitude and Janet's church bulletin posting as we so often fail to see the blessings all around us.  I am much more aware of the many blessings that have come my way this year and think in some ways, while difficult, it has been one of the best years of my life.

Colin, sorry to hear of the lose of Patches and to have his life ended so suddenly by being hit.  Thanks for telling us about him.

Liz, it sounds like you must about have the house to yourself.  Hope you are keeping the oars handy as it sounds like things might float up your way.

Etta Sue, someone in our Sunday School class announced she had taken 7 shoe boxes for the Samaratan's Purse Christmas efforts to the collection point.

Pat, that is a touching story about Sandy.  I can remember several pets that have enriched my life over the years.

We had an interesting morning at church.  Our choir sang an Bach anthem in German or at least we called it German.  However, we have one lady in our church who comes from Switzerland and speaks German and one of the choir members asked her if she enjoyed hearing the anthem in German and she said "Oh, was that in German".  I told this lady that we probably shouldn't share that comment with the choir director.  :)  Our youth minister preached today and he started his sermon on Psalm 103 by reciting the entire Psalm from memory and didn't use a note for a very powerful sermon.  I know he works very hard on his sermons.

Following church we went out to a buffet with eleven other friends.  Came home and took a nap and now am enjoying my easychair, watching the football game, and using the computer.

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, there,

What a blessing I received when I came here today! And, it was fast on the heels of a wonderful, and unexpected, blessing I received at church.

We had missionaries from Papua, New Guinea to speak to us, and one of the things they talked about was the hospital that had served the people so well.  It brought fresh memories back of my mother's death. She SO loved missions that we asked for donations to the church in her memory to be set aside especially for missions. There was just enough to fund a centrifuge to be used in the hospital laboratory in Papua, New Guinea.

So, I've been thankful all day for how God has blessed my life through my parents' ministry and through their love for others.

Y'all have a good day.

Ruth Ann

Boy, Sundays just now are so busy!  Sunday School, church, home for a while, then to the care home to sing with the folks, then musical practice, prayer time and church again!  And it will be that way until December, then it will be another church's turn at the home, then after the 10th, no more practice.  But it's all good, as the kids say.  :)

Liz, it is so good to hear from you and know you are okay.  Try to get some rest while the kids are vacationing, you need a break, too.  I miss you when you don't post.  If you don't want to "talk," how about posting some of your nice poetry?  I always enjoy that!

Ruth Ann, what a sweet memory of your Mother.  I'm sure she was smiling down from heaven at the memorial you did for her.

I want to go read a while before I go to sleep.  See you in the new Thoughts for the week.

I'm checking in too. :)

I didn't go to church today.  The weather was windy and rainy and I decided to stay home.  I listened to some good tapes I have, and just rested...all dry and warm.

I'm looking forward to watching Extreme Makover Home Edition at 8 pm, with a cup of herb tea and snuggled in my chair with a blanket tucking me in. :)  Oh, and of course, two small white dogs on my lap, one staring into my face, the other down on the foot rest, between my feet, chewing on a toy till his little head drops and he naps as long as I stay there. :)  Life is good.

Blessings, Nita

Good evening everyone,
I got home from church and laid down and took a nap. Now I'm up because the phone is ringing off the hook. I hope things go well at the Dr tomorrow. Well I hope everyone is having a good sunday (almost monday) and I shall be back on later this week.
Have a good week,

Janet - I really, really enjoyed that back-of-bulletin article!  Thank you for that.  I too pray I'll be more attentive to what my Lord is doing and saying.

We're in the final stages in the next two days for our trip to Davis.  When you're old and decrepit you have to remember to take lots of things you probably wouldn't have earlier in life.

Liz - it was indeed good to hear from you up there.  Just stay in and stay dry!

Janet

Trisha!  Thanks for checking in!  Glad you got to go to church, but do take care of yourself and the coming baby!

Hi, Nita!~  Yes, life is good!

I spent about 45 minutes looking at photos in the gallery.  There is some amazing stuff in there!  So much beauty in the world, and we get to see and enjoy it through the efforts of many good photographers.  Thanks, all!

Now I really am going to bed to read a bit!
