JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

The entrance into Jerusalem [on Palm Sunday] has all the elements of theatre of the absurd: the poor king; truth comes riding on a donkey; symbolic actions... even parading without a permit! Also, when Jesus "set his face to go to Jerusalem," what was involved was direct action, an open confrontation and public demonstration of the incompatibility of evil with the Kingdom of God.
David Kirk

Morning Devotional...

Jesus Rides into Jerusalem
Matthew 21:1-11 NLT

As Jesus and the disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the town of Bethphage on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead.  "Go into the village over there," he said. "As soon as you enter it, you will see a donkey tied there, with its colt beside it. Untie them and bring them to me.  If anyone asks what you are doing, just say, 'The Lord needs them,' and he will immediately let you take them."

This took place to fulfill the prophecy that said,

   "Tell the people of Israel,
'Look, your King is coming to you.
He is humble, riding on a donkey—
      riding on a donkey's colt.'"

The two disciples did as Jesus commanded.  They brought the donkey and the colt to him and threw their garments over the colt, and he sat on it.

Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting,

"Praise God for the Son of David!
Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
      Praise God in highest heaven!"

The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as he entered. "Who is this?" they asked.

And the crowds replied, "It's Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.

If you had been part of the crowd that day, what would have been your most lasting memory?

This passage is one of the few places where the Gospels record that Jesus' glory is recognized on earth.  Jesus boldly declared himself King, and the crowd gladly joined him.

But these same people would bow to political pressure and desert him is just a few days.

Today we celebrate this event on Palm Sunday.  That day should remind us to guard against superficial acclaim for Christ.  Think about this next time you celebrate Palm Sunday.

I am tired tonight.  Rough night last night and I did mow the yard today.  It rained this morning but dried off for this afternoon.  And the grass was really high.  Predicting rain for tomorrow.  I would have to bale if I waited until Tuesday.

Off to bed.  I hope everyone enjoy this clean, new space!  And I pray you all clutter it up with lots and lots of posts!!

I'm first this morning.  Etta Sue:  you asked what would thoughts be about viewing a grown man riding on a donkey and I guess it would be that he would look humble, perhaps look poor because he wouldn't be on a horse - not at all regal looking.  A person would have to take the time to really look and then, what would it be like to listen?  The voice would be so interesting - so calm and reassuring, and with it the promise of such peace.  I am just imagining now that you asked.

We are going to the gym this morning and come back to eat a quick breakfast then drive almost an hour & half to grandparent's day with grandson.

Carol

Pat

Good Morning everyone!

Thanks for the devotional to start us off on yet another week, Etta Sue!

Must rush off as I have an eye doctor appointment in a few minutes involving the drops in the eyes so won't be able to see properly for a few hours.

Busy day today...laundry....go to the bank....go to Dollar General...call classmates about 60 Chix luncheon Thursday...be at Kitty's at 4pm to eat at Panera Bread and then lessons at 5:30pm at Photo Guild.  Sounds like I shouldn't even be on here!

Marilyn

Good Morning. Pat when I go to the eye Dr and have my eyes dilated I always get the drops afterward that clear them back up

I went to Curves at 6 AM, now I am off to Tai  Chi in a few minutes., then on to the bank to make a deposit, stop at the Community Services District to pay my water bill, back home to take the dogs of an early walk. I need to go by Fay's to drop off a key that I used to make a new one for me later. Then a Univera meeting tonight.  Also need to make a couple of phone calls about job possibilities.

Tomorrow I have an 11 am meeting with my Pastor about a project we are working on together.

Hi everyone.  I am eating my lunch while ready the postings here on CP.  I had a very busy morning as after coffee I took Pat to the chiropractor and she adjusted a lot and is feeling better.  He thinks she may have had a pinched nerve.  I brought her home so she could use a cold pack on her back and I went to pick up some special toothpaste for her that she had ordered at a health food store.  Then I went across the street to pick up a few items.  There were no electric carts available so I took a big cart and walked very slowly and id stock-up shopping for the month such as replenishment of the meat in the freezer and paper products, dishwashing soap and trash bags plus quite a few other things.  We should be pretty well stocked up for several weeks in quite a few items.

Fortunately I don't have anything else on the schedule for today.  After I have a chance to rest I will do some work in the kitchen putting the meat into the freezer and fixing some cole slaw.

Marilyn, you were certainly busy this morning.

Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional for the week.  It is a good one.  I have seen a few of the Pantera Bread stores when traveling but not eaten in one.  We don't have any of them around us.  Hope you have a nice evening.

Pat, hope that is just a routine eye appointment.

Carol, you are so fortunate to live where you can play a role in your grandchildren's lives.  This was something we never really experienced after our granddaughter was one year old and her mother went back to the midwest with her to live with the grandmother.  Now our great grandchildren live over a 1000 miles away in New York state so we don't get to see them except in a few pictures.  Our first great grandson is starting kindergarten then year.

Hi Samantha.  Always nice to see you dropping by to say hi.

Papa John, your Jeremiah  reference to idols reminds me of the similar description in Isaiah that we recently studied in our Pastor's Wednesday morning Bible study.  Glad you were able to enjoy the Chinese dinner yesterday and that Cornelia was up to attending the special event following your church service.  I am sure she enjoyed it.

Janet, hope you were able to get in a nap yesterday and maybe a swim as well, or at least Abby was able to swim.  You don't spoil her in anyway do you.  :)  Keep up the good work.

Time for an afternoon rest period.

Pat

Yes, Larry, just a routine examination leading to new glasses.  He always wants to be extra careful with my right eye as it's the one that had the retina detachment and several surgeries because of it.

I'll maybe have my glasses this Friday.

Well my plans got changed today. I got a call from a friend who needed some computer work done, so I went over and it took me three hours to clean her computer, While that was running I put together a new office chair for her and helped get her house cleaned up and ready to put up some teenagers with the Up with People group.

Then when I got home there was a message on my machine from the Home Health office about a patient who needs some help , So I am going to work tomorrow, it may only be 1 day per week but ever little bit helps. I also finally got a chance to walk the dogs., and fix myself a big salad.

Gonna go relax now.

Hi kids!

Nope, Larry, no nap for me yesterday; Abby won!  But I likely needed the exercise more than I needed a nap.  And NO, of COURSE I wouldn't spoil her!  ;)   That's my # 1 job description as a Grandma.

Pat, good luck with your new glasses.  Hope to hear from you soon.

Another week of doctor's visits for this family:  Darrel had two today, tomorrow I have therapy, then take Beth and me to chiropractor, then I go to Dr. Rane (surgeon) to check my hand.  Sigh.... :-\

If it weren't for the hope of heaven, I would be afraid to think about the future!  BAD news all around.  Mercy!

Darrel and I are going to the movie Hairspray tonight!  Date night!  :)

See you tomorrow.

When I read about how busy every one else it makes me feel like I don't do anything, which is the case.  These days we stay in most of the time.  I get up very early and read.  Then watch the news on TV.  And I read our morning paper.  During the day I read,  watch the news, and work a little while on the computer.  I remember times when we were busy every day and often seven days a week.  But the time comes when you have to slow down.  I'm just glad to be here.

Papa John, I love the biblical message at the end of your post. During an especially difficult time in my life, that passage was given to me. It's my favorite passage - God's mercies are renewed afresh to us every morning! What a wonderful thought.

I thank God for taking care of me Saturday. When I approached my truck in a parking lot, 2 cars of thieves had gone through my truck, stolen some tote bags, some money, and my tire changing kit.

However, although I was threatened, I was not physically harmed, nor was my purse taken from me. (And my licensing and insurance information is intact).

I've spent this afternoon working toward making certain my banking information, etc. are taken care of. For there's a very real chance they got hands on some bills and statements that would give them lots of information about me.

I was reminded all over again how fearful I was as a young wife and how God gave me two verses that helped me through the very difficult times when my husband was in the hospital so much, and then deceased.

First is in Philippians: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." And, when I realized from Psalms 121 (one of my favorites) that He who keepeth Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, I realized that the God I serve really cares about us - He neither goes to bed, nor does he even take naps!

I truly believe as I entered my truck with those cars full of hateful eyes staring at me, that there was a hedge of protection about me. For that I'm truly grateful.

I'll be traveling to Cleveland, OH on business tomorrow returning on Thursday afternoon late. With tomorrow being 9-11, I've needed to give that flight to our Master. If it's time for me to meet Him, then I'm ready to go.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Papa John

Good morning.

Ruth Ann, I am so sorry for your experience with the thieves.  What a terrible experience.  We are thankful for God's protection and that you were not physically harmed.  There are so many wonderful passages which give us assurance that when all our trials are over we have victory in Christ.

Today there is a run off election for Mayor of Nashville and some city councilmen.  We voted in early voting so we don't have to get out for it today.  Probably either of the men would make a good Mayor.  With all our problems such as Ruth Ann's bad experience we are blessed with a great city

Six years ago we watched in horror as planes crashed into the two World Trade Center towers in New York City and in the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Time seems to go by so fast.  This war  has lasted longer than World War II.  We continue to pray for peace.

1 Timothy 2:1-3    (New King James Version)
1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Good Morning.  Papa John those verses are so appropriate for Today Sept 11.  Thank you for postingthem so that we might remember to pray for all men.

I will be off to pick up Willa for Curves in about 10 minutes. I go to work at 9 AM. This man lives just  behind where I used to live on Halfway avenue. This afternoon I hav my appointment to have my yearly Bone Density test done in Eureka. I am sure there is more improvement as there was last year too. But now I have full year of exercise  behind me.

Pat how did the eye test go? Do you need stronger glasses?

Janet I pray all the Dr. appointments go well today.

Hi everyone.

Ruth Ann, how terrible and frightening.  If I read your message correctly the thieves were actually there when you returned to your truck.  You are very fortunate tha they didn't steal your purse or physically injure you.  It does seem that lawlessness is on the increase in our big cities and suburbs.  Our county has grown so much that we now have gangs operating in the county and home invasions, which I find really frightening.  However, I refuse to live in fear.

Pat, thanks for the info on your eye appointment.  The eyes are something that we sure don't want to fool with as they are too important.

Marilyn, glad a new job opportunity has come your way, even if it is just one day a week.  It sounds like you did a lot of different things yesterday morning.

Janet, a little bird told me that Abby would likely prevail.  :)  Hope the medical appointments go well for you both.  Hope you enjoy the movie.  It sounds like one I might enjoy when it comes out on DVD.

Papa John, I can relate a bit to your posting about not having a lot of things in your day.  I usually have some meeting or place to go but find that it is best to try to schedule only one major thing a day as just don't have the energy for multiple activities.  I sometimes have multiple things to do but usually pay for it the next day.  I remember what I was doing on 9/11 and horror of that day.

We had a pleasant surprise yesterday when our step grandson called and came by to visit for a couple if hours.  We found that he has moved fairly close by so we hope to see him more often.  He is 21 or 22.  He is going to come back on Monday to help us with the heavy cleaning since our cleaning lady is still out sick.  That will certainly help us and I am sure he can use the extra dollars.  Just hope he can work up to the standard that grandma expects.  Since grandma is still down in her back she wouldn't be doing any cleaning anyway for awhile.

I don't have a heavy schedule today.  I will attend a meeting this morning and then someone is coming by this afternoon for a short time to tell me of some changes that are needed in some by-laws for the senior Golden games, which we are putting on the website.  I have the new page ready so making the changes should be easy.

Carol

Ruth Ann:  What a terrible experience for you and I am so glad that you are safe.  Yes, those two passages are a "rock".

Larry:  We are fortunate because the children were all left in the Dallas area when Don took a job in Denver and one-by-one, we reeled them in.  The first to come was a future DIL and she lived with us until the wedding.  What a joyful experience.  We lived in the area previously and two of our children were born here so they did want to return.  Thank goodness they love to ski and other such things outdoors.  I am sorry that your grands live so far away as they miss your loving kindness as well as such a good relationship with Pat.  We don't know why these things are  in the life plans and it is truly hurtful.  Don's parents would have been so much more attentive to our children and they died when he was still in college so I didn't even meet them.  It has always been a void in our lives.

Larry:  Oh, what a joy that your step-grandson came for a visit.
We have a challenge going on right now - nothing earth shattering - just perplexing/ On our house exchange coming up - the husband had a serious heart attack.  We are so sure that they won't be able to come here - so we are scrambling to look for alternatives without spending money but that won't happen.  We have Brit-Rail passes and other reservations that are non-refundable so it goes.  Don will think this through for us - certainly a shorter trip but it is the reservations that can't be changed  - I can't even think about it now.

Carol

Al Moak

Ruth Ann - I definitely echo the others in thanksgiving that you were not personally harmed!  Thank You, Father!
Papa John - thank you for that Scripture - in it we have the definite command to pray for others.  It's not an invitation, but a command.  What does that say about whether or not He will hear such prayers?  I believe it tells us that He truly wants us to be involved in His works via prayer.  Oh God, move me to much more prayer!

Etta Sue

Larry ~ Panera Bread food is somewhat like Tea Rooms.  Just like Chinese, if you knew what all was in those sandwiches/salads, you wouldn't eat it!  They make their own breads, of course.  Nice place to eat.

As for the devotions that I post, I get them from The Best of the Bible:  365 Must-Read Bible Passages.  It is a book all its own with the Bible passages and the questions afterward...one for each day of the year.  I have had this book way before my computer in '98.  I typed out the Title, the date, what verses are used and then the questions and thoughts for each day.  On Word, it is 33 pages!  Now I have those 33 pages in my Bible and I have read them every day since I got this book.  Never gets old!  I love them.  But sorry, the book is out of print.  But it is published by Tindale and is the New Living Translation if anyone want to go on the hunt for it.

Pat ~ I sure need to have an eye exam.  Not because I can't see...I can still read small print, see far away and see my finger prints.  But it has been over three years since I got my glasses.

Marilyn ~ Glad you got a job for one day a week.  Better than none, correct?

Janet

How true, how true!  When I was diagnosed with cancer of the larnyx, I was devastated until I read my devotions the next morning and thought, I am in a win-win situation.  Whatever happens, I win!

Papa John ~ I tend to do everything in one day and then crash the next day.  Today I am crashing.     I think it is wonderful to be retired...some days I am so busy that I don't think I would have time to work.  I love my ho-hum days.

Ruth Ann ~ I can't imagine the ordeal you went through.  God was sure with you while those thieves were taking items from you and the truck.  How did they get in if you were already in the truck?  And I bet you think again before you leave bills...paid or unpaid in your truck again.  You are fortunate...very fortunate.  I might say that that wouldn't happen in Noblesville but I am sure it does.  Seems in the paper every day there is someone arrested for molestation or rape!  Terrible.  Makes one wonder what this world is coming to.

JudyB ~ Thanks for the thanks for the devotion!  Much appreciated.

Carol ~ Praying for an alternative for your house exchange.  Are you still going even if you don't have a house to stay in?  Or stay home and lose the passes/reservations that you can't exchange?

Al
~ Thank you for being a prayer warrior for all of us.

Yes, today is the sixth anniversary of 9-11.  A day everyone will remember and hopefully so.  I pray that we never forget this day in 2001.  When this day becomes just another day, then the terrorists won.  Even if that is 100 years from now.

God Bless You All.

Papa John, what great verses for me today!  I want you to know that this blessed my heart.

How wonderful to realize that "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;  his mercies never come to an end;"

How seem to think sometimes that we're all alone in this big world and that we're unloved but what a wonderful love our Heavenly Father bestows upon us and it never ends!

Thank you so much!

Oh, Ruth Ann!  I'm so thankful to our wonderful Lord for his hedge of protection around you!  But I'm sorry there are such awful people, who would do anything to hurt a sweet lady like you.  Did you see them as you approached your pickup?  Did you call for help?  I hope your trip today is blessed.   <3

Papa John and Larry, it is good to be able to do as little or as much as you like.  Etta Sue, I look forward to some of those ho-hum days myself!

I called and canceled my appointment in Liberal.  Using the new support on my hand/wrist has helped a lot, but it is hurting now.  Probably from the therapy and then taking Beth to her appointment.  These chiropractors both seem genuinely concerned about Beth, and the massage therapist as well.  That is a help in and of itself.

Carol, I'm so sorry about your house exchange problem, and pray Don gets something sorted out about it.  It's so nice your kids moved to be near you, with the grandkids.  Family means so much!

It is cool here, needed a sweater this morning.  Really a nice change, and Fall is definitely in the air!

Marilyn, glad you have some work.  And more is sure to follow.

It is almost time for piano lessons.  Hope I don't mess up too badly, haven't been able to practice much this week.

Hello All,

I am a newbie and found this forum from a Photo-A-Week project I was visiting. I was so glad I saw it and I do feel I was led to it - because I too, had thieves in my life and I have been so bummed by it. In my case, they stole the lawnmowers (riding and push), then came into my house and took the TV and then they found all of my camera equipment (Canon 5D, Sony 717 and 4 lenses).

My dog - my sweet Shepherd Girl Shilioh, did bark and she did scare them off as they abandoned the big stuff, but did take my cameras/lenses. I suspect she did not hear them right away because I had the ceiling fan on. I do not sleep with that any more!

That was August 27th and no word. The police really don't do anything. I went around to the pawn shops, I check eBay and Craigslist, but nothing.

They were not on an insurance rider, so I do not yet know what (if anything) the insurance company might do.
So that's my tale of woe.

But-- I did got though some photos and uploaded my allowed 4 today! It Was nice to see them and r 8)emember the trips :)

Blessings,
Ingrid

Well goodness, I did not explain that right :)
It all happened about 4:30am. Shiloh got me up to let her out and then we went back to bed. Then at about 5am she ran out barking. I followed her and saw the empty corner where the TV was. It took a bit to register in my head!
I went and got my husband up and then my son woke up and there we were - all bewildered at the sight. My son Jaime went outside and saw that the lawnmowers were gone.
It is spooky to know they were walking around my living room! And they were so quiet!
After the police came, they found the lawnmowers all neatly stashed against my fence - the outside of it, along with the DVD player and cable box. I am guessing they were planning to pick them up with a vehicle later. The TV had been abandoned at the gate. I guess that is when Shiloh barked.

Marilyn

Oh my Gosh that really give me the creeps. They were walking around in your house while you were in it.

Oh, my!  I can't imagine having thieves in my house while I am there.  When a neighbor was robbed while gone, she said she felt violated because they had went through all her drawers and such.  My feelings, too.  That's my stuff.  No one has any business there but me!  So sorry about your camera/lens, Ingrid.  Hope your insurance pays for new ones.

Today is Red Hats.  We are going to a Nursery that has a restaurant.  I am hoping to take some great photos.
