JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Oldiesmann: So sorry for your loss Carol. Praying for you and your family :( 2022-05-01, 17:13:05

I'm off work today. I teach music for a Christian school. We just had our big spring play--last performance was Tuesday, I worked yesterday and today took a day off to rest up. So instead of resting I plan to go through Mom's paperwork and make sure she gets established as a resident of my state. She just moved close by to a very nice "lightly assisted" living facility. She's struggling with the early stages of dementia, but we don't know what type.

Connie, it's nice to see what you do in your job.  Do you have a specific instrument you enjoy teaching or are you strictly a voice teacher?

It's so nice sitting here in this HandiMart parking lot and listening to the hymns you've been putting in, Judy!  I especially like this last one.  "What Shall I Give You Master?"

Well, Paul is ready to start the engine and head the 4 miles up the road to the house but I'll be back tomorrow.

Good night all.  Paul says "Hi"

Sorry I missed you, Pat, but by the time you got to the wi-fi I was sound asleep.  It was a busy, hectic afternoon around here and it about wore me out.

Judy, I love that you're posting hymns every day!   :D

Good morning all. I woke up again this morning to heavy rain, wind, thunderstorms, and screaming sirens for tornado alerts. No photos today
it would appear. I think they are forcasting 7-8" of rain over the week end.

Judy: The hymns are really enjoyable, thanks.

Larry: Keep us posted concerning your wife I took the liberty to add her to my prayer list.

Connie: Hi there! I'm new here also and hope you enjoy it as much as I. I would like to add your mother to my prayer list. I'm a facility director for a somewhat upscale senior living community. We are considered an assisted care facility, though it is very minimal.

Jeanne Lee: You just be careful of the birds this week end.   :) I think I'll never forget your "close encounter".

Jim, believe me on the rare occasions that I see that heron I am very wary!   ;D

I have another day of crystal cleaning done.  Then I visited with Ivalou.  I got the bank statement yesterday and I have to have my register balance out with the bank statement.  It didn't.  I checked.  Re-checked.  Tony called to go out to eat since Charlene is still in Michigan.  We went to Anderson to Hacienda Real.

When we got home we went to the garage.  I found the caulk gun I was looking for.  I put air in the Honda lawnmower tire.  He raised the deck on the Craftsman mower so it would mow higher.  He replace a bulb between the garage doors on the outside.  Then he went home.

I went back to checking the bank account.  My phone rang.  Ivalou asking me if I knew I had a light on in my garage.  I had also forgot my back door to the house was open and unlocked!!  When I went out that door earlier, the basement light was...since I was hunting for the caulk gun earlier in the week.  So I shut the light off in the garage and locked the back door.  Does this all sound like old age or Alzhiemers?

Back to the bank account.  I finally took another paper and wrote down each entry and it finally balanced with the bank.  Why is it when I make one mistake, I make 3-4 in the whole month???  Grrr!

Today a church member is coming for me to scan some pictures to put on the overhead at church tomorrow.  Then a baby shower at 1pm.  Not cleaning crystal today...I don't think.

It rained in the night and overcast today with predictions of more rain.  I know the people that have the weekend off are upset with rain on weekends.  The last three weekends have been rain!  But now that it is May, hopefully the weekends will be nice for practice and qualifications for the Indianapolis 500 Race.  That's THE biggie for Indiana!

Hi everyone.  Pat and I are just back from an activity this morning and am finishing up my lunch.  Then I will rest for awhile and get back to come computer work I need to do for an organization for which I am Treasurer.

Jim, you certainly don't need my permission to put either my wife or I on your prayer lists.  I feel we can never have too many prayers offered on our behalf.  My wife is doing very nicely from her surgery and is able to use the computer again and watch TV.  I haven't seen her try to read much yet.  Hopefully the vision will improve over the next few days as the eye heals from the surgery.

Etta Sue, it is interesting that you worked on your bank reconciliation today and I did the same thing.  The bank said we had more money than our "Money" bank register we keep on the computer.  I wasn't concerned as long as it was that way.  However, didn't want it to run on.  I found that we had entered the same deductions in both of the bank accounts we have so, of course, it reduced our balance in our Money program.  I deleted these duplicate entries and am within forty cents of agreeing and that is not worth spending another hour or two looking for.  We will just make an adjustment to bring it into balance the next time we work up the statement.

It is not raining today, as of yet, but has been cloudy with a light mist all morning.  Tomorrow we are suppose to get some heavy rain that is headed down from up Ruth Ann's way.  It is being pushed down our way by another front behind the storm front.

Kassie had an exciting day yesterday.  The son of one of her teachers is dating Cherie Piper.  This young lady is on the Canadian Olympic Woman's Hockey team.  She visited the class that her future Mom in law teaches, and brought with her the 3 gold medals that Team Canada won!.  Each student received a signed hockey card from Cherie.  What an awesome experience for these kids to motivate and inspire!

Today Kassie has gone to Canada's Wonderland.  John and I have the day alone!

God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son.

Romans 8:29 NLT

The Reforming Monk

Girolamo Savonarola was born in 1452 in Ferrara, Italy. He was a sensitive and serious boy who was enamored with the study of religion. He started training as a physician, but his idealism caused him to drop out and join a Dominican order to fight the evils of the world.

Savonarola was deeply distressed by the corruption within the Catholic Church and what he saw as a lack of piety among its leaders. He spent his time praying, fasting, and teaching the novice monks. He became famous as a preacher. He preached about God's pending judgment, the need for repentance, against the worldliness of the clergy, the evils of the ruling class, and the general corruption of secular living.

Savonarola used his power and popularity to bring about reform of church and state. He is considered an early reformer within the Catholic Church. Under his leadership Florence underwent a startling transformation: businessmen restored ill-gotten gains, there was much Bible ready, and the churches were crowded. At the same time, Savonarola made many enemies.

With the passage of time, community support for Savonarola's strict views started to wane. On May 13, 1497, Alexander VI excommunicated Savonarola from the church on the grounds that he had disobeyed the pope's commands. He was arrested in April 1498, tried for sedition and heresy and was brutally tortured. On May 23, 1498, he was publicly hanged and his body burned.

In the succeeding years the majority of citizens of Florence went back to their old ways, yet many permanently changed. One of those was a sculptor named Michelangelo.

Crown Him with Many Crowns
(Click to hear music)

His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns;
and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
Revelation 19:12

Author:  Matthew Bridges, 1800-1894, and
Godfrey Thring, 1823-1903
Musician:  George J. Elvey, 1816-1893

Crown Him with many crowns, The Lamb upon His throne;
Hark! how the heav'nly anthem drowns All music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing Of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King Thro' all eternity.

Crown Him the Son of God Before the worlds began:
And ye, who tread where He hath trod, Crown Him the Son of man;
Who ev'ry grief hath known That wrings the human breast,
And takes and bears them for His own, That all in Him may rest.

Crown Him the Lord of love! Behold His hands and side,
Rich wounds, yet visible above, In beauty glorified:
No angel in the sky Can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his wond'ring eye At mysteries so bright.

Crown Him the Lord of life, Who triumphed o'er the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife For those He came to save;
His glories now we sing Who died, and rose on high,
Who died, eternal life to bring, And lives that death may die.

Crown Him the Lord of years, The Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres Ineffably sublime!
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me:
Thy praise shall never, never fail Thro'out eternity.

HYMN HISTORY:
It is not surprising that such a magnificent opening line as "Crown Him With Many Crowns" should be used by different hymn-writers. But it is not known whether the two writers of this hymn ever met. Matthew Bridges was one of the considerable group of Anglicans who were influenced by Newman and Faber. Godfrey Thring, a much younger man, became a Prebendary of Wells Cathedral in 1876 and it was he who altered and rearranged Bridges' hymn so that both their names now go with it in the hymn books.

But even good first lines are not always fashioned straight away. The first line of this great hymn used to be "Crown Him with crowns of gold" - a line that was for many years popular in the United States, being considered more impressive than any other description.

The five verses celebrate the kingship of Christ each with a definite theme,

Crown Him the Lord of Love
Crown Him the Son of God
Crown Him the Lord of Life
Crown Him the Lord of Peace
Crown Him the Lord of Heaven

thus making the hymn a fine example of Christian teaching about the person of Christ.

Al Moak

It's wonderful to consider the present Kingship of our Lord Jesus Christ!  There are many in our day who  think that Christ will become King one day, but I believe the Scripture teaches that He IS King NOW.  So let's crown Him in all that we do or say.

I have been away for sometime.  Lots of things happening but not to be shared with the public.
Last week we went to my nephews cottage, the reasons are personal but while there Mel was cutting the grass and instead of going around a garage door that has sharp edges he tried going under thus cutting his head and needed to have it glued back together, a 4 inch gash, the modern way of repair is glue since there is very little flesh on the skull, the bleeding came to a rapid stop letting us leave for home at our planned time with a stop at the local hospital on departure.

Today the local church had a ladies breakfast with Hillary Price wife of Charles Price the pastor of Living Truth Church/Peoples Church in Toronto.
She gave a wonderful message which was also part of her personal testimony.  I needed to hear this as it will help with some of my personal issues.
Instead of heading home I then spent the afternoon with a friend that is unwell, she is under going many tests and so far no answers at it stands she is unable to return to work until there is a fix of some kind.

It is good to be busy but a slow down and rest is good as well.

Larry:   About balancing the check book I would not give up until it did balance, only then would my mind be settled. Yes even for 40 cents but that is me.

To everyone my prayer and good night.  Ruth
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Hi Ruth.  Have a good Lord's Day.

Good morning all. Wow, more rain today. As of last night we have recorded 10" since late Friday night. Some areas here have recorded as much as 16". A great amount of rain in so short a time, and creating a lot of flooding. The lake has risen a good bit, but still within the sea walls. Should not become a problem as it has a good spillway.

JudyB: Great info concerning Savonarola. I haven't read of him, but have came across the name while reading of the reformation period beginning with Martin Luther. If memory serves, Savonarola was put to death about 20 years prior to Luther posting his "95" thesis.

Larry: Thanks, I was almost certain you would not mind, but one never knows in today's world. Good to hear your wife is doing well and I'm confident the vision will improve with time.

Happy birthday dear Nethaniel
Happy birthday to you!

By the way, Nethaniel, in Hebrew, means "given of God."  It's the combination of Nathan(given), i(my or me), and el (for Elohim)

Judy, congratulations!  A new grandson is cause for celebration - especially after the pregnancy problems Megan had just a couple of months ago.  Praise God!
