Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Good Saturday to all.
I just came home from a lovely wedding at church. A couple the Lord has done a great work in their lives.
Al-praying this therapy will indeed work quickly for you.
Larry -great to know things are working out for Stacy and to see what the Lord has done in a short time.
Hope all is well and doing fine. God Bless

Wet and cool, here on the island.  Lots of rain today :(

How is your dog's foot, Marilyn?  I hope things are okay.

It was grocery shopping day and I am tired.  My daughter is getting things to give in the Christmas hampers and I am tuckered out from carrying it all into the house.  And that is just the start......

We went to the Sally Ann and I got a cute little cat ornament and three plates, plus a Richard Clayderman CD.  My kind of shopping.  Usually only get CD's.....needed some extra plates and they were nice and not expensive!  Couldn't resist the little cat ;)

Wendy brought back a cute joke from their trip.  So here is a little smile:

Two gals were walking their dogs along a posh shopping area, when one decided it would be nice to go into a lovely lounge for a snack.
Her friend said it wasn't possible, they didn't allow dogs inside.
"No problem", she replied, putting on her sunglasses.  "I'll tell them I am blind."  The doorman stopped her and explained dogs were not allowed.  "That's my seeing eye dog", she stated.
"What, they are using Doberman Pinschers now?"  he asked.
"Oh, yes, they are being trained to do this sort of work and are really  good at it."  she responded.       So he let her in.

The friend decided she was not going to be left outside, so put on her sunglasses and entered.  The doorman stopped her with the same request to leave.  "I'm blind,"  she said.  "This is my  seeing eye dog."  "I can't believe this,"  the doorman responded.  "They are using Chihuahua's now."
"WHAT", she sputtered...."They gave me a CHIHUAHUA!"

                        :)

It really sounds better when Wendy tells it!

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Liz
CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Ruth Ann Bice

What a busy day yesterday!

First a doctor's visit.

Then, christmas shopping - met a friend who was ringing bells for the Salvation Army, so we had a nice chat and shared a hug. His wife is in poor physical condition. So, we discussed her for a few moments.

Next was lunch with my former boss.

Then I had my mammogram, and took another friend to lunch who was also bell-ringing for the Salvation Army. It was nice to drink a soda with her while she warmed up a bit - it's really cold here in Nashville for those poor bell ringers.

Well, the beauty salon was across the street and I needed a haircut, so stopped there.

Then, the 20 miles to my friend's house to go to the Messiah sing along. Unfortunately, she was not well enough to attend, so I picked up a bit of dinner for us at the Cracker Barrel and then spent the night at her house.

So, today's been a day to try to recover from all that activity!

Y'all have a good evening.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

I am all ready for church.  Today I am going in early since I am running Sunday Plus and need to be there when the Praise Team practices their singing.  I am anxious.

Tonight at 7pm is our Christmas Cantata at church.  Ruth Ann, the minister's wife, does a fantastic job with the choir.  Last year, I was truly impressed!  I know this year will be better!

It snowed nearly all day yesterday but you can still see blades of grass in the lawn.  It was windy...so windy.  I did hear the snow plow go past around 5:30am.  The road is clear...don't know what they plowed.  The temperature is down in the single digit so it is cold.  Just saw a snow plow on the highway about a ¼ of a mile away...hmmm!

Gotta go!

Hi everyone.  It is another sunny and beautiful day here in Georgia but not warm.

I am ready for church.  Our church has a craft group who make things for a sale of decorations and baked goods.  These are offered only to members of the congregation once a year and today is the day.  Pat didn't participate in the preparation of the crafts at church but made a number of rice bags (that are great to microwave and use for aches and pains and also she made a couple of batches of her delicious caramel corn.  I will leave in a few minutes to take the caramel corn over to a friend who will go ahead and take them on as there are earlier services than we attend.  She already sent the rice bags to the church.

Marilyn, obviously I made a mistake yesterday morning when I mentioned seeing the doctor and taking Stacey home today.  For some reason I had it in my mind when I wrote that yesterday was Sunday.  All of this is actually happening tomorrow, Monday.

Liz, I love the music of Richard Clayderman also.  I am just partial to piano.

Ruth Ann, sorry you didn't get to go to the performance of the Messiah, at least I am assuming that from your posting.  It sounds like you had a busy day.

Marilyn

Good Morning I am ready for church,it is almost 8 AM and don't need to leave here until 10:25 as the church is  about 1½ blocks away and starts at 10:30.

Not much new here this morning, I did get the mowing done yesterday.

Pearl Harbor anniversary today.

What a beautiful service early this morning.  Five young men led the singing & they could all be on stage - so much talent.  What gifts people share.

Don had to take a little snooze when we came home.  I had a phone call from friends in Arizona who wanted the phone number of another friend so they could visit each other - hope it works out.  It looks like the children don't want a regular dinner on Christmas eve and intend to have appetizers with desserts, of course.  So, now to look up some different recipes.  Really it will be easier for the cooks and dishwashers so that is a good idea.  They are so traditional that it just amazed me but I know the girls have talked this over and the boys have to go along.   ;)

We ate out twice yesterday with lunch of the homeowner's here.  They led the group with saying grace before lunch.  We have noticed that in our dinner club as well - that is so nice.  Also had soup & salad with friends last night.  Tuckered from just talking away.

Larry:  How nice that your appointments are working out this time - you need a break from all that driving.

Al:  May your month of therapy pass quickly and give you the needed results.

The mountains are outstanding now with fresh snow and deep blue skies - what a wonder we are so privileged to observe.

Thank you Pat for this devotional. I have been struggling this past week and you have reminded me of how loving and caring our God is. To realize this is truly uplifting. I am going into hospital this Saturday to have surgery for two hernias and being reminded of God's love is a great comfort. I wonder if I might ask for your prayers for a dear friend of mine. Niki is very close to us and has been diagnosed with Breast cancer for which she is currently having chemotherapy.  If all goes well she will have a partial mastectomy in January. Niki's oldest daughter,Mary, is our God daughter. She is now a beautiful young woman of twenty-one and is studying drama at university.  Niki's illness has sadened us deeply and it has been God's love that has been our rock through this. Niki lost her husband,Peter(my closest friend and brother in Christ), to cancer four years ago. They have six children with the youngest fourteen and the oldest twenty-five. I have felt through all of this God has been close to us all.
Thank you for this forum. While I haven't been contributing, I have been following the thoughts and daily devotionals. I have also been praying for you all.
May God truly bless you and enrich your lives,
your brother in Christ, Rob

Hi Bob:

I'm so sorry for the tardy reply to your post.  We've been down in Winchester, VA and down there where Paul is building a house, we have no internet connection yet and so I'm just trying to get caught up while here in Washington area.

I have just now prayed for Nikki and I pray that she is doing much better.  Could I ask that you keep us posted about this?  I will continue to pray.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing
(Click to hear music)

A great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests."
Luke 2:13-14

Words: Charles Wesley, Hymns and Sacred Poems, 1739

Music:Music: "Mendelssohn," Felix Mendelssohn, in his cantata Festgesang, 1840, honoring printer Johann Gutenberg; arranged by William H. Cummings in Congregational Hymn and Tune Book, by R. R. Chope, 1857

Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th'angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"

Refrain
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Christ, by highest heav'n adored;
Christ the everlasting Lord;
Late in time, behold Him come,
Offspring of a virgin's womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
Hail th'incarnate Deity,
Pleased with us in flesh to dwell,
Jesus our Emmanuel.

Refrain

Hail the heav'nly Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris'n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die.
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

Refrain

Come, Desire of nations, come,
Fix in us Thy humble home;
Rise, the woman's conqu'ring Seed,
Bruise in us the serpent's head.
Now display Thy saving power,
Ruined nature now restore;
Now in mystic union join
Thine to ours, and ours to Thine.

Refrain

Adam's likeness, Lord, efface,
Stamp Thine image in its place:
Second Adam from above,
Reinstate us in Thy love.
Let us Thee, though lost, regain,
Thee, the Life, the inner man:
O, to all Thyself impart,
Formed in each believing heart.

Refrain

Here is Charles Wesley's original version:

Hark, how all the welkin rings,
"Glory to the King of kings;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"

Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
Universal nature say,
"Christ the Lord is born to-day!"

Christ, by highest Heaven ador'd,
Christ, the everlasting Lord:
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of a Virgin?s womb!

Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see,
Hail the incarnate deity!
Pleased as man with men to appear,
Jesus! Our Immanuel here!

Hail, the heavenly Prince of Peace!
Hail, the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings.

Mild He lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth;
Born to give them second birth.

Come, Desire of nations, come,
Fix in us thy humble home;
Rise, the woman's conquering seed,
Bruise in us the serpent's head.

Now display thy saving power,
Ruined nature now restore;
Now in mystic union join
Thine to ours, and ours to thine.

Adam's likeness, Lord, efface;
Stamp Thy image in its place.
Second Adam from above,
Reinstate us in thy love.

Let us Thee, though lost, regain,
Thee, the life, the inner Man:
O! to all thyself impart,
Form'd in each believing heart.

Aside from the obvious answer of:  Jesus......
What is your favorite part of the Christmas holidays?

Mine is getting the house ready for the Christmas "look."  I no longer do outside decorations, but the inside gets a complete makeover.  Donna has put up all of the decorations......now for the tree.

I continue to resist Donna's insistence to get an artificial tree.  I can't wait until I can walk in the house and smell that nice evergreen smell that permeates the house.

Ah!!! .......then there the mince meat pie.

We have caught the Christmas spirit around this house.

Hope we see some pictures, Ed!

Ed, my favourite time around Christmas is as you suggest, "Jesus".  I like to dwell on thoughts about HIM.

But I've always enjoyed decorating my home with nice things too.  I love to see the tree and have lots of candles around the house all burning and smelling their lovely scent.  I really enjoy baking my special Christmas recipes like Scottish Shortbread and Mince Pies too.

And I have enjoyed making Christmas gifts through the years for my family and friends.  And I enjoy knowing that my handiwork was appreciated by seeing these garments worn in later times and all "holey" from use!  :)

Well I got discouraging news today.  The Phys. Therapist is still quite positive on the eventual outcome - she says we will get the swelling down.  But now they're saying maybe up to a month that it will take to get the job done.  Please continue to pray.

My dear Alan...

It grieves my heart to read of your struggles with your legs.  Please know that both Paul and I continue to pray for you.  We are so enjoying going through the Songs of Worship together and then when we pray at the end, we always pray for you and your situation with your legs.

God bless you my dear brother and please tell Marbeth that my prayers are for her as well.

As With Gladness Men of Old
(Click to hear music)

"When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy." Matthew 2:10

Words: William C. Dix, 1860. He wrote this on the day of the Epiphany, while sick in bed; it was first published in his Hymns of Love and Joy.

Music: "Dix," Konrad Kocher, Stimmen aus dem Reiche Gottes, 1838

As with gladness, men of old
Did the guiding star behold
As with joy they hailed its light
Leading onward, beaming bright
So, most glorious Lord, may we
Evermore be led to Thee.

As with joyful steps they sped
To that lowly manger bed
There to bend the knee before
Him Whom heaven and earth adore;
So may we with willing feet
Ever seek Thy mercy seat.

As they offered gifts most rare
At that manger rude and bare;
So may we with holy joy,
Pure and free from sin's alloy,
All our costliest treasures bring,
Christ, to Thee, our heavenly King.

Holy Jesus, every day
Keep us in the narrow way;
And, when earthly things are past,
Bring our ransomed souls at last
Where they need no star to guide,
Where no clouds Thy glory hide.

In the heavenly country bright,
Need they no created light;
Thou its Light, its Joy, its Crown,
Thou its Sun which goes not down;
There forever may we sing
Alleluias to our King!

Carol, our gov. is in a mess and you are not the only one who doesn't understand.  We have what some of us consider to be an system that seems to confuse even the politicians.  There are 4 parties, plus a couple of independent that are voted into parliament, then the one's with the most votes are the party in power.  The Prime Minister is the leader of the party with the most votes, who is in this case, a minority party, due to the others having a combination of more votes.  Sort of sounds like a lesson in how not to form a gov. doesn't it?  Three of the parties with the combination of votes that are greater than the gov. in power (?) are forming a coalition to throw out the ruling party. They claim that he has lost the confidence of the house.  So the Prime Minister appealed to the Gov. General, who has higher power and has been granted the right to suspend parliament for a short time.......thus closing the house and stopping the coup on a temp. basis.  Most of us with sense, want the present Prime Minister to remain in power. He is a Christian and a smart man.  So you thought your elections are a headache.... :ticked:  I also didn't mention that Quebec (one of the three) doesn't even consider Canada their country and call themself a separate nation, while trying to mess up the economy of Canada.  That is why we have both French and English on/in everything....  :yakyakyak:  Wow, if you read all of that, you are now as confused as this person.

Liz, thanks for this news.

Down here, it's almost as if Canada doesn't exist.  :(   I've been trying to get news all week since Janice (my daughter) alerted me to the fact of the problems and waited till yesterday to find out how the meeting with Mr. Harper and the Governor General went!

This has certainly been a terrible time for all Canadians this week and to think that even the Bloc are involved in this coalition is despicable.

Abby did a fine job dancing in The Nutcracker.  Making memories for herself and family, too.  ;)  I made supper and took it down, they appreciated it so much.  Those kids just work so hard, and stay far too busy.

Our pastors are in Ethiopia today.  They are adopting a boy and a girl from there.  They took their 13 year old daughter along.  They also have another daughter and a son.  I know it was a long, hard trip, and also know the return trip with a four year old and a baby will be even harder.

The Youth Pastor preached this morning and did a good job.

Pat and I and two other gals went to the Parade of Homes this afternoon, then Darrel and I went to our small group Bible study.  We stopped early and all went to the care home and prayed for Beth.  There were eleven of us in that room, and I know there was enough faith and power present to blow the lid off hell!  I fully expect to see changes in her condition, God says His Word will NOT return to him void, but will prosper in the thing whereunto it was sent!  Praise God!

Larry, so glad you can take care of your appointment and Stacey's chair in one trip.  Did your son and wife ever show up or call?  I hope they are all right.

I have to work the early shift in the morning, then the dinner at the home is at 5:30.  So I need to go make the food I am taking now.

Pat, it is so good to have you back with us.  Say hello to Paul for me.  I miss you.

Hi everyone.  Will leave for coffee at McDonald's shortly.

Our weekend was pleasant but we were sad that our son and his wife didn't come over after all.  They didn't even bother to call and tell us of their changed plans.  Fortunately my wife had not prepared a big meal as she had the weekend before.  We did talk with our son about 1:30 after he saw we had tried to call.  So we don't know when we will be seeing him--I guess whenever he gets here.

We will take Stacey back to her apartment around noontime and get her settled back into her apartment.  I am going to try again to get the wireless working at her apartment.  I think I was trying to use the wrong username to get to her internet account and now have the information.

Pat, good to see you posting.  I was thinking that just like you experienced your first Thanksgiving in the USA that you will be introducing Paul to some of your Christmas customs.  It should be an interesting time for you both.

Guess I had better get the day started.  Janet, don't work too hard today at the Home.
