Morning Devotional...

Psalm 54

This psalm is a complaint about being maliciously "used" by some who had been thought to be friends.  But the ultimately sharp contrast is that there's a wonderful God Who truly understsnds. He's a God Who isn't merely "afar off up there in heaven," He can and does deal with real affairs down here on earth as well.  He's a God Who really cares and really acts in response to His people's prayers.

These are things every Israelite could easily relate to each day as he went out into an unfriendly world.  It was good for him to hear and repeat the words of this song.  It's good for us too.

David had gone to the Ziphites, thinking that these supposed "friends" would provide him refuge from Saul's persecutions.  He thought he could "lie low" there for a little while until he "caught his breath," so to speak.  But the Ziphites saw an opportunity to get favors from king Saul (maybe something like a little more tax money for their district).  So they went and told Saul that David was hiding out among them.

Obviously the Ziphites hadn't even considered the possibility that God's plan was to set David upon Israel's throne and that He would therefore deliver David and at the same time make things go very, very badly for anyone who betrayed him.  A little later, after David's triumph, the temple worshippers sang, "And oppressors have sought after my life; they have not set God before them."  It's a common problem in the world: men concoct schemes without any consideration at all of the unseen Lord of earthly affairs.

And David, later on, remembers this episode and leads the people to sing, "Behold, God is my Helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my life.  He will repay my enemies for their evil!"  He used the word "behold" because this song was written after the fact - people should notice that God had indeed been David's helper!

Because of a very great deliverance in this case, David could conclude his song on a very joyful note.  He sang, "I will freely sacrifice to You; I will praise Your Name, O Lord, for it is good. For He has delivered me out of all trouble; and my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies!"

Later on, when worshippers sang this song to start their day, it would renew their trust in a God Who is always concerned when it comes to His people.  They could leave the time of worship with confidence that it didn't matter what man did to them that day, because God's plan for them would be fulfilled anyway!

Does He have a plan for you?  If you trust Him today, if you love Him and desire to serve Him, then He DOES have such a plan -  and NO scheme of man can overthrow it!

Because He Lives
(Click to hear music)

Words and music by William J. Gaither
copyright 1971

"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.
Come, see the place where the Lord lay."
Matthew 28:6

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

And then one day, I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict'ry,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

Al:  Many thanks for devotions on why we can trust the God is always aware of what is happening to us.

As our son left the cabin to come home, he said that a good amount of firetrucks were heading in the direction of the park.  That was probably early to mid-afternoon.  Pray for the firefighters safety and I am adding a prayer for the elk and other animals.

Larry:  Good idea to see your doctor.  I have you, Pat and Stacey in my prayers.

Ruth Ann:  Super gift - enjoy.

Janet:  We have always talked about going to Branson and it sounds like you were in some great spots.

JudyB

Thank you Al for the devotional.  He always know what is happening in our lives.  That Gaither song is always a difficult one for me to sing along with.

Have a good night everyone!

Hi, just peeking in the door before the sandman puts me to sleep. :)

Y'all have a wonderful day.\

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.

I went to bed very early last evening and got about 9 hours of sleep.  Am feeling better this morning so will see what the day brings.  I have a very light schedule today with just my men's luncheon at 1 pm, which is nearby and very non-stressful.  I am going to have to give serious consideration as to whether I can continue to hold the position that allows me to attend these state-wide meetings.  This was the 6th one I have attended and do enjoy the experience however, this last weekend was almost too much.  I just hate to admit that I seem to be getting weaker and weaker as felt good after the last stent was put in.

Al, thanks for the new devotional thoughts for this week.

Janet, I have heard some rave things about Sixes and several of the other shows.  While we were there a number of the theaters were dark but did get to see Any Willaims and the 12 Irish Tenors as well as a husband and wife and several others who presented a great and fast moving show featuring music for several decades.  They also did their Christmas show.  I remember they had a cute little girl who participated with them in the show and did a super job.  We enjoyed all of the shows.

Judy, I am sure working in a chicken processing plant must have been a big challenge and can understand not eating KFC for a number of years.  I grew up on a dairy farm and do not like milk by itself.  Of course, make ice cream out of it that is a whole different story.

Carol

An update on one of the Rocky Mountain Park fires - the one closest to Grand Lake is contained.  Now, there is another one that is on both sides of the road nine miles from the town of Granby.  There are some ranches in the area but very sparse in any buildings.  Again, a beautiful drive.

Larry:  You must have needed that extra sleep so it is good that you were able to have that gift last night.  Resigning from any volunteer work is always met with two ways of feeling about it and of course, you need to consider how you feel after the meetings.  You'll make the decision that is best for you in the end.

Don invited friends over tonight and we will drive them to a restaurant.( I always have a problem spelling restaurant unless I have recently written the word. )  I did vacuum and have the house tidy but what is the use of deep cleaning until the bathroom workers are finished?  Now I must really get to work because I didn't know he was asking anyone indoors until this would be over - the toilet is sitting on plastic just outside the bathroom.  Oh, yea!  Thank goodness we have another bathroom.

Ruth

Good morning:

Al: Thanks for the devotional
Ruth Ann: The TV was a lovely gift for sure.
Janet:  Glad that you enjoyed your holiday.
Larry:  Please do what your heart leads.
Marilyn, Judy, Ruth V, do take care.
Pat: Please let us know how Paul is.

It is a most beautiful day and for sure I will be going out to do some of the gardening in readiness for the winter. It is nice to get every planted for the summer then when fall arrives it is good
to have it all tidy in readiness for winter.

Mel had a small delivery to make and on his way I asked him to take a bowl of home made soup to my Aunt, something for her lunch or supper.

Ruth
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

JudyB

Carol I understand renovations!  And I am always thankful for spell check, but I sometimes miss the words underlined.  We live in an area where there are frequent fire bans, because of the dryness of the area.  If there were a fire it would be devastating.

Larry sometimes we have to stop doing what we enjoy for health reasons.  That is always sad and hard to do.  I will continue to pray for you.

I have a bunch of calls to make so will not be on here too long!

Janet

I'm sleepy!  Darrel and I lay awake reading until after 1:30 AM; both of us finished the books we were reading.  But I can tell I am short of ZZZZs today!

I have been to the chiropractor, and then by the museum to pick up a picture they want me to frame, and the lady wanted to visit, and visit, and visit....but nice.  I enjoyed talking with her.  I don't see her very often.

Larry, glad you do feel stronger today, but it might be good to see your doctor anyway.  And I understand that it's hard to give up the things we enjoy doing, and hope that will not be necessary for you, but please take care of yourself first!

Carol, I hope those fires are soon a thing of the past.  This old world is being beaten and battered all over--Wichita had a terrible hail storm while we were in Branson.  Stones larger than softballs, and they actually punched holes in the ground about 4 inches deep!  That will be a roofers' paradise for a while!  I am sorry for the property owners, and even the insurance companies.  But then they always raise the rates--as if it is the owners' fault.  >:(

The wind is blowing like crazy here, we can barely push the door open to get out of the house.  Ugh.

Carol

Yes, glad that someone asked about Paul - I have been thinking of him and the health care situation -

Pat:  Still praying for the two of you!!!!

I just checked Facebook and am feeling so low.  One classmate who is very strong politically left has signed an actual Hate Bush thing & I decided to look at what people were writing.  It such shocking and hateful rhetoric that makes me so sad.  This is dividing our country when we should be working together on so many things.  I don't care which side people feel, it just so senseless to harbor these evil feelings & I sure don't understand why the bible, anything Christian is being attacked.    I still love my friend but it is hard to never say anything to her regarding political issues.

Etta Sue

Not much to say today other than I have been cleaning the house for Euchre here tomorrow.

Still no rain.  We sure need rain.  And I am still surrounded by corn fields.  When I am out and about, some of the corn and beans have been harvested.  It is early for harvest but the fields are ready!  Fall is in the air.

I have car repairs.....only 140 instead of what I expected.  Yea thank you Lord!

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends, it's been a good and quiet day today. Calls from daughter and daughter-in-law were good, and I'm so thankful for my clean apartment. It's even running through my mind a way to gain a bit of storage space and also enhance the look of my living room (at no cost, thank goodness!).

Y'all have a good rest of the day.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Janet

Carol, that is so sad about your classmate.  Why is it that some people hate Bush so much?  Yes, he made mistakes; who hasn't?  I believe the root of the hatred is from the fact that Bush is an unapologetic Christian, and the devil hates him and will do anything he can to destroy him.  I'm so glad we serve the almighty God who is above every work of the devil.  I'm sure Bush still wants and appreciates our prayers for him.  I'm sorry that reading that trash has made you feel so down.  We know who wins in the end, don't we?

Our two hours, twice a month housekeeper is due any minute, must get off here and decide what I want her to do today.  The house is in pretty good shape, since we were gone for five days!

Ruth Ann, want to come and help me do some rearranging and changing in this house?  Bet your apartment looks lovely!

Etta Sue, come on over, I have plenty of cleaning to do and you are welcome to help!  ;)  Enjoy Euchere (whatever that is!)  ;)

See you later!

Hi everyone.  I woke up tired this morning with the feeling that my eyes just want to be closed.  I did go to coffee, which I always enjoy, and have a short meeting to attend this morning and then will come home and rest for the rest of the day.  I did write to my doctor yesterday and hope he will reply.  I showed Pat what I wrote and she pointed out I really didn't ask him a question but just told him what was going on.  I guess I will know in a day or so as they are suppose to respond within a 36 hour window.

Carol, I also stumble over the word restaurant every time I spell it.  I am usually a good speller but this word always gets me.  I am glad it is in the spell check function of this website. I am sure your friends will completely understand you are in the midst of some remodeling and not think anything about the situation you described.  I do hope you didn't worry about that.

Judy, glad you got good news on the cost of your car repair.  You certainly can't drive without brakes.

Janet, our housekeepers are paid a set amount for the job and that is to clean basically the whole house.  Of course, some rooms do not really need much but a quick vacuuming and a bit of dusting so that doesn't take long.  They do a great job and we are very pleased with them.  They are always willing to do the little extraordinary things that Pat may want done like occasionally sweeping out the garage.

Last night Pat took her very large white on white quilt to her guild meeting for show and tell.  She completed it is 1997 and it is all hand quilted.  She got a lot of compliments on it and on her small stitches.  We keep it on one wall as a wall hanging and the housekeepers took it down last week so Pat washed it and it will go back on the wall next Monday.

Janet, Pat's sister lives in Independence, Missouri and they had a terrible hail storm with 5 inch hail a few miles from where she lives.  It hit a big shopping center and did a lot of damage.  It was probably the same storm.

Time to leave.  Hope everyone has a fine day.

Etta Sue

Good morning for awhile.  I am all ready for the girls to come to play Euchre.  Euchre is a card game that just about everyone in Indiana and surrounding states know how to play.  A mid-west game.  You play with just 24 cards, 9-Ace.  The dealer deals 5 cards to four players and leaves 4 in the kitty with one card turned up.  From the dealers left that person can make that card trump or pass.  If she passes, then the next, and the next and the dealer have the same option to make it trump or to pass.  If everyone passes, the dealer turns the card down and then the person on the dealer's left can make trump what she wants or pass.  If everyone passes then the dealer may deal again.  But the dealer has to make trump if everyone passes twice on the second deal.

If you have a really good hand and make it trump you can go alone.  Meaning your partner, the one across from you doesn't have to play.  You get 4 points if you get all 5 tricks.  If you get three tricks you get 1 point.  But if not three points, then you are Euchred and have to put two quarters in the bowl.  The other two gets two points.

If your partner helps you.  You get 1 point if you get three tricks and two points if you get all 5 tricks.  But if you don't get three tricks, you are Euchred and the other two gets two points and both of you have to put a quarter each in the bowl.

Now the trick to it all is that the Jack that is trump is the highest card...he can take anything.  Then the Jack of the same color is second highest, then Ace down through 9 of trump.  But you have to follow suit if you have that suit.  Otherwise you can trump.

We play 8 hands and put the score down on paper and change partners, sometimes changing tables.  We put in a dollar to play.  The person with the highest score gets $5.  Second highest gets $2.  And the lowest score get her dollar back.  The person with the most lones gets all the quarters from all the Euchres in the bowl.  And the person that makes the last lone gets a gift bag with a small gift in it.  No one comes out a millionaire and no one breaks the bank.  Just a lot of fun and laughter.

It sounds complicated but fun!  Now don't you wish you lived in Indiana and played Euchre??

I am all ready for company!  First Ivalou and I are going to Lapel for lunch so I won't have to mess up the kitchen.  She needs money from the bank so we will do that first and then go eat!

3pm will get here soon!

(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*

JudyB

Etta Sue it is fun, Euchre, that is, we don't play for quarters, just points.

RuthV and I went to the woman's meeting today, and what a blessing that was.  We studied Jericho and then went on to dig deeper.  Quite the study.

It is a windy day here today. Trees are bending over and leaves flying  everywhere.  The sun is bright and warm.

Going through pictures today,  I have some to put into the challenge.  we'll see what I can come up with .  We need the rest of you to enter your pictures of churches as well!

Larry Hanna

I met to post this poem this morning.  I got it a couple of days ago from my best friend.  I have met the man who wrote it a couple of times. He is also the Sunday School teacher of my best friend and his wife.  I thought you all might enjoy it. I did receive permission from Carl to share it here as it is Copyrighted.

The Prodigal

When I'm a prodigal, lean grocer's shelves aggravate me,
But when I'm in sync with my Father's will,
I remember the millions hungering for just one slice of bread,
While I could buy hundreds of loaves today.
Ah, God, You're so good to me!

When I'm a prodigal, children's incessant questions irritate me,
But when I'm in sync with my Father's will,
I remember children are created with an expansive, empty database
And they ask me questions out of respect for my wisdom.
Ah, God, You're so good to me!

When I'm a prodigal, people--even friends--can be so annoying!
But when I'm in sync with my Father's will,
I remember that He places people in my path for a purpose; so
I may be a blessing to them ... or they may be a blessing to me!
Ah, God, You're so good to me!

When I'm a prodigal, I see our flag as just a colored rag.
But when I'm in sync with my Father's will,
The stars and stripes remind me of scores of children who will never come home again;
Those who died so I can breathe the fresh air of freedom.
Ah, God, You're so good to me!

Carol

Larry:  Your friend is spot on with his Prodigal story.  It is so true - how we slip and slide through life without thinking of others.  Oh, to be more consistent.    Glad that Pat's sister is alright from that ugly hailstorm.  Also, it would be wonderful to see Pat's wall quilt with all of her hand stitches.  Hi from me!

Ruth:  Mmmmm good - soup sounds good always.

JudyB:  I forget how many feet close to the house that nothing should be grown.  But it makes it seem so plain - it is much safer.  Take care too.  JERICHO - that old song just keeps running through my head since you mentioned it.

I am the last person on earth to ever mention that I felt a sign from God but it just happened today while walking & praying and it is the 2nd. time in my life, no - third that something calmed me considerably.  For me, it was seeing a perfect dandelion and that is the exact same thing that happened years ago - it is too long of a story to tell but it means the world to me.
Grace and peace for all

Ruth

Larry: I enjoyed the Prodigal story.

Carol:  What is a perfect dandelion?

I was a kinda feel sorry for me day, I guess it being so unseasonably warm, along with the fact I have some issues with my neck.  Later in the afternoon I went to Sears and purchased  a garment that has extra back support, I will see if it helps then while at Sears it was a buy l get l free, yes I purchased one top at a reduced price and got the other free.  in total $14.00

Dancing with the stars is now on so will see ya'll tomorrow.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Carol

Ruth:  Good wishes on getting a handle on your neck pain - been there.  Oh, that dandelion was so fresh & bright yellow and that is rare for this time of the year in our dry country.  Good sale on your tops!

We just returned from going to g-daughter's volleyball game.  They lost two games but she was kept in the game the entire time and did her serves really nice.  Her braces are off & what a pretty smile.  At 13, I think she is taller (5'6") every time we see her.  Waiting to hear if someone will call back on a washer dryer set we have on sale.

JudyB

Good evening all.  We have the van back, hydro was out so Kass and I went out to eat.  It was really nice being able to chat with her and relax eating.

There is a tree down laying across the phone line.  I am wondering how long the connection will hold.  The wind has been really blustery today,  In town fences were blown down as well.

I must go I am wanting to turn  in early tonight, and time is creeping on.

Ruth Ann Bice

While I don't usually arise early in the morning, today was an exception. Twice a month I play piano for our apartment tower's devotions. It's like a mini mid week service, with a solo or duet, 1 congregational song, and the visiting minister speaks for about 15-20 minutes. NO COLLECTION PLATE FOR OFFERINGS!! :)

Then, it was arrange some business matters by phone. Then try to rest my painful right leg, then make a meatloaf and jello with fruit cocktail in it for the seniors bible study at my church. It was a great time of fellowship, a wonderful bible study, then cleanup and finally back home again.

Sooo, I think bedtime comes shortly tonight. :)

Love to each of you,

It sounds as if everyone has had a pleasant or productive day.  Tonight was our annual Grant County Home Products Dinner, where everything served is grown right here in Grant County.  There were about 2500 people there, and everyone seemed to be having a good time.  We had a gospel hillbilly band sing and play for us while dinner was being served.  The senior citizens get to go in and be seated right away, and they entertained us.  Then we had introduction of VIPs (always lots of politicians, etc. at the dinner), the national anthem was sung beautifully by my chiropractor's wife, more introductions of the dinner committee, announcement of the citizen of the year, then a funny speaker.  Very nice evening.  My friend Pat went with me, as neither of our husbands wanted to go.

And now it's time to hit the hay and read a few chapters in my Bible.  See you tomorrow!

Hi everyone.  Glad you liked the poem and I will pass along the comments to my friend so he can pass them on to the author.  The poet has also written a book called "A Gratitude Attitude".  I saw a copy of it yesterday.

Yesterday was another almost lost day for me.  I did manage to stay up all morning and attended my meeting but didn't stay for the entire thing and just came home and went to bed.  I was up for an hour and then laid down again until dinner.  Stayed up another couple of hours and then to bed for the night.  I am hopeful today will be a much better day.  I will go to coffee shortly and then decide whether I feel up to further activity today as this is Bible Study morning and then choir tonight.  I don't like to miss either of these things as they are the highlight of midweek.

Janet, it sounds like quite a dinner you had last night and I remember your attending other years.  That is a large crowd to serve.  Glad Pat went with you as doing things with someone else is always more enjoyable.

Ruth Ann, you really had a busy day.  Hope that leg is feeling better.

Judy, it is interesting how sitting across the table gives us occasions to talk when being in the same house often doesn't.  Guess it is the change of scenery.  Glad you have your car back.  Sounds like you had some serious winds up there.

Carol, I believe some experience defy description in terms of others understanding what the experience has met to us.  They are precious.  I have tried taking pictures of Pat's white-on-white quilt but they don't begin to do it justice.  Guess you will just have to come visit us and see it for yourself.

Ruth you sounds like a very good shopper.  Hope your neck is feeling better today.

Etta Sue, that was a good explanation of Euchre.  I have played it a few times and have the game on my computer with the set of Hoyle card games.  It is fast and fun.

Janet

I made a mistake in the number of people attending the dinner, it was actually 2500.  That's one big roomful of people!

Larry, my prayers are with you.  You are a precious brother and we want you to be with us until the trumpet call and shout take us all to heaven.  Thank you for taking care of yourself.  I would love to see Pat's lovely white-on-white quilt, I am picturing it in my mind and know the reality would be much more beautiful.  Hope you feel stronger all day today.

I don't have any have-to-dos today.  :)  This afternoon is making a scrapbook page at the library, and I always look forward to that.  I need to get some exercise sometime today.

Carol, isn't it wonderful how God can use something as simple as one perfect dandelion to speak to our hearts?  That is, if we are listening.  Hugs to you, and I am so happy you experienced this.

The weather here is beautiful (when the wind doesn't blow) but you can sure feel Fall in the air.

This thing is jumping again, so if I have more to say, I will come back later.

Are you concerned about losing your faith?

Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or are hungry or cold or in danger or threatened with death? (Even the Scriptures say, 'For your sake we are killed every day, we are being slaughtered like sheep.') No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can't, and life can't. The angels can't, and the demons can't. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away. Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:35-39 NLT

We are God's People
"We are not babes in the woods—we are God's people and, no matter how it looks now, we are going to inherit this earth and rule it. The devil may be prince of this world, but the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, and He will set up His kingdom and His people will be in charge of it."

I've been to the gym and now I have changed my shoes and put on my jeans, will be going to the farmers market in  a little while. Before I went to the gym I washed a few dishes, made the bed and fed all the animals. I made home made yogurt last  night so I also took that out of the yogurt maker and set it on a rack to cool. I have a Photoshop lesson to complete and an appointment with the ENT this afternoon about my throat..

Spaghetti for supper tonight, Last night we had BBQ'ed chicken breast with sides of  String beans and corn.

Just put in a call to the contractor as he isn't communicating very well.  This bathroom work has been stalled since last week.  Promises promises.

I understand about broken promises.  It is tough.

I have been trying to move things around on my computer.  It is hard when I really don't lnow what I am doing!!! :clobber:   :clobber:

Kassie's relationship with Josh may be over....he is a nice guy but they are still so very young.  Her attitude is so sweet.  "Mom it is in God's hands, He knows the future and I am leaving it there."

Well back to work.

Euchre was so much fun.  Yesterday we almost broke our record of high temperature that was set back in 1955 but we only tied it.  93 degrees.  But I still had chili for all of us at Euchre.  They must have liked it...only a small bowl left in the crock pot!

Today I took some things to a friend.  Then went to a small restaurant in Lapel for breakfast.  I had a two-egg cheese omelet, hash browns, two slices of wheat toast and coffee...only $5.34.  A dollar for coffee...haven't seen that for a long time!

Then I went swimming.  My scanner is about shot so I went to Walmart to look at scanners.  None.  Went to Staples and it was too thick to go under my cabinet.  Went to Best Buy and they only have printer/scanners.  But I got an HP that is a printer/scanner and wireless.  My printer for the desktop died a few months back so it will replace it with a USB cord and I will be able to print wireless from the laptop!  And less than $70!!

After that I went to AAA and got a new Indiana and Missouri tour book.  Also a Hawaii book for wishing.   ;)  Then I found a key ring with a pouch on it that when you unzip it, it is a sling bag.  Will be great when carrying the camera and still need my billfold, phone and keys!

After lunch at McD's I came home.  Oh...and did I mention, it was raining cats and dogs from Walmart to home??  Much needed rain and only 73 degrees.  But tomorrow it is to be back to 94 degrees!  I sure hope we have some fall weather.  Our summer has been so hot and dry.  I hope we don't skip fall and go right into cold and thick white stuff!

My visit with the ENT went well as far as my throat is concerned. The irritation is being caused by my sinus's draining. He tried to go up the right side of my nose to take a look at my throat and ran into a problem there. My septum is deviated  over to that side (broken nose twice), there is a spur  and the passage is convoluted. So he numbed the other nostril and went that way. I go back in a month, he incressed my Flonase Nasal spray  to B.I.D two puffs and prescribed Mucinex B.I.D. Later on after  I am no longer in a cast we will be fixing the inside of my nose to make it easier for me to breath.

Thanks to all who have been praying for me.

Hi everyone.  I just heard on the news that we have had 83 days this summer with the temperature over 90 degrees and today and tomorrow will add to that total.  Our air conditioning bill is huge but we have been cool.

I have a clean slate on the calendar today.  Pat didn't have to report for jury duty today, the fourth day she has not had to go in this week of service.  So she will be able to attend the special Bible Study that is being taught by her friend.  It is one of the Precept ministries Bible courses and is the study of Jeremiah.  This is the 3rd or 4th week of a 16 week study.

Pat and I attended Bible study yesterday with our pastor but did not go for coffee or lunch afterwards.  It was sort of downhill the rest of the day however had a good nights sleep and feel better this morning (as I usually do when I first get up).  I am hoping it will last all day.

Marilyn, glad the doctor found your problem and he will ultimately be able to make it easier for you to breath.

Etta Sue, I love chili anytime of the year.  I really don't know why we consider it mainly a winter dish since we eat many other foods served hot during the summer.  Hope you like you new printer.

Judy, as you know Kass has lots of time to develop relationships.  It does sound like she has a mature attitude about things.

Janet, I thought the wind always blew in Kansas and Okahoma.  That is one of the things I noticed after we moved away from there that it was blowing and was so nice.

Etta Sue

I HATE COMPUTERS!!!!  Let me go back a tad.  I hate computers when things don't go right!  I have been installing my HP printer since 4:30pm yesterday!!  Installed on the desktop and the laptop with USB but not the laptop with wireless.  At 11pm, it kept 'Installing device'.  So I went to bed.  1am something.  Still installing.  I have been up since 3:45am.  I finally did a system restore.  I had an update for Adobe Flash Player.  Had to uninstall that and re-install the update.  That uninstalled the Flash Player for IE.  I love working Shockwave Jigsaw Puzzle and couldn't do it.  I couldn't get IE to work so finally went to www.ninite.com and installed the Flash Player for IE.  Now IE works, too!  And the puzzle works.  It's 8am and I think I am going back to bed and forget the HP and the laptop for now.  Maybe a fresh start later will work!  I did remember to turn the anti-virus and the firewall back on!

I am so sleepy!

Last night was one of those nights that I had difficulty sleeping.  Today it is up early as I have a physio appointment today.

Please pray for a family that Kass knows well.  The young man who is the father of 2 and boyfriend to Kassie's friend committed suicide on the weekend.  Everyone is having difficulty understanding.

Al hasn't been around since Sunday, Al I pray you are all right.  Praying for you brother.

Thank you Judy.  I think I will not complain!  All is relatively well here.  Our oldest daughter got a job that starts Friday, so that's a big thanksgiving.

Good morning!

Larry, glad to see you feel better today, hope that continues.  Yes, the wind does blow here a lot, but not always!  Those days when it doesn't blow helps me apprecite the reprieve.  I don't mind "breezy" but lots of days what we get in the way of wind, others would call hurricane force!  We had a little rain last night, so it is nice and cool this morning.  I have the garage door and house doors open to let in the nice fresh air.

Etta Sue, you have my sympathy with the computer problems.  I just cannot deal with them, so there are lots of things I just don't even attempt to do on the computer.  And when I get into a real mess, I have to wait for a grandson to come bail me out.

I am feeling low today.  Got my feeling hurt yesterday.  But that is just the enemy's attempt to put me down, and I am determined not to allow him to stop me from living a victorious life.  Besides that, what happened was not at all intentional, I knew it at the time, but old feelings of inferiority reared their ugly heads and are trying to steal my joy.  Have you ever noticed that the devil will steal from you any way he can?  I need to go take a long walk and pray and clear my head.

Marilyn, what is B.I.D.?  I also have a deviated septum, but was born with it.  Hope you continue to feel better.

Judy, sorry about your night.  As you know, I have those, too--hate 'em!  So sad about the young man--the devil sure convinced him that his life wasn't worth living; now others are left with the pain and the questions of "why?"

We are waiting for two workers to show - this was "promised" for today.  Oh, my.  Don is not taking it well today.  We can't do much as I have to be around to talk to the contractor & need to get groceries sometime too.  Blessing today was that a battery was dead in our 4-wheel drive.  Don jumped the battery & took it immediately to WalMart for a new battery.  Now the blessing is that we can pay for it and I know something like that problem is a huge burden for those living on the edge financially.  Always thankful for hot showers & being able to get things fixed.

Marilyn:  The good news is that there is a solution to your throat problem.  How are the dogs?  We have dogs in the family and two are elderly.  Really, everyone is a rescued dog & there are always health problems with each of them.  Only one puppy looks healthy.

Janet:  Today is a better day for you!  Hugs......

Larry:  We are way above normal here too after a below normal springtime.

JudyB:  Kass is a mature-thinking girl for her age.  I am so sorry for the sad news on a friend's suicide.  Many times there just are no answers to that action.  A pro football player for a team here just did the same and everyone is questioning.

Etta Sue:  Do hope you feel refreshed after a little sleep this morning.  Yes, this technology can get anyone feeling down.  You'll conquer the problem.

Carol the dogs are doing well. Happy has responded  miraculously to the thyroid medication he is like a young dog again.  His coat has all grown back now but he is shedding like crazy leaving fur every where even though I brush and comb him daily. Bebe hates the brush so I finger brush her when I take them outside her fur flies all over. Thank you for asking,

I was pleased to find out there is nothing wrong with my throat. Being a former smoker I get uptight about  anything to do with my throat or lungs. Understandable I know. It will feel so good to be able to breathe through both nostrils after my nose is fixed and not have to breathe out through my mouth when I am walking outside.  I am sure that  has affected my allergies over the years, to breathe in all  the stuff outside.

Judy I am sorry to hear about the  young man who committed suicide. When Gilbert was in high school one of his best friends, 15 yrs old, hung himself over a girlfriend. That  really traumatized Gilbert and the other boys they hung around with. I will keep Kass in my prayers.

Well there is good news from my physio appointment.  He said I am a good candidate for surgery. So I have made an appointment with my Doctor for the referral.

It has rained all day.  Kassie has a weekend camp out with cadets this weekend and the forecast is for rain.  She will come home with a load of wet laundry and cold!  Them's the breaks!  LOL

Hi.  I am stopping in with a prayer request for my GD Amanda.  She started back to college, moved to Victoria and a new part time job, and is having serious health problems.  Has a couple of other long time problems, but now has severe virtigo attacks and Wendy had to fetch her and take her to the ER and dr. again. Will be ages until she sees a specialist and none of this is good....

We are helping her with financial stuff (no holidays for gramie) but this is going to create so many problems.  She went back today and hopes to work tomorrow, has to get back into her classes, etc.  Looking very ill, so prayers will be most appreciated.

Things keep chugging along here.  Angry folks everywhere in the news, talk about recalling a bunch of MLA's over the HST tax that was recently put in place.  So many angry people!

Fall is definately here and quite chilly at night and in the mornings.  I put my cozy winter bedding on again and so am quite snug at night.  Misty (cat) comes to keep my feet warm.  The cats and I are growing very old together.

Nice that some of the TV shows are back.  Dancing With The Stars has a lot of new faces.  Will be fun watching them compete.

God Bless.

I had a fun evening.  Diane called to say that Abby was playing volleyball here at 4:00, so I went to watch her.  Had a nice visit with Diane and Jeff and Diane even had time to make a short visit to the care home to see her sister Beth and her Grandma.  Abby's team played seven games (only to 15 points) taking the first to win 2 out of 3, and they won against two teams and lost against one, pretty good start for seventh graders.  Then Jeff asked me to eat supper with them, so we went to a Mexican place we like.  So nice to visit with them.

If my moulding comes tomorrow, I have a framing job to complete.  And I want to do some painting, have a project in the works.

I wish you all a restful night's sleep.

Well, I let an Indian have access to my computer yesterday....for three hours!  And I still don't have the printer recognizing my wireless router.  And I still had to pay him.  He said in the very beginning after running a quick scan that my computer was corrupted with many virus's and corrupted files.  I told him no way.  He wanted to install an anti-virus.  I already have an anti-virus.  I also have Auslogics Booster and ccCleaner.  Then he said for $199 a year, I can have 24-hour computer support.  I used these same guys for almost a year.  They couldn't get rid of a virus and it cost me locally to get rid of it.  I cancelled my membership and they still took out $119 for the next year.  After calling them several times, I did get credited!

Anyway he said that my windows installer would not stay on and that is why the wireless hook up won't work!  What does the windows installer have to do with wireless?  So I think I will go to Best Buy today and see what they might tell me.  The printer works fine with the USB cord on the desktop and the laptop...so the printer is okay.  Just can't figure out the wireless part!

Today Ivalou and I are getting a haircut, then Kitty and I are going swimming.  And hopefully, Best Buy.

Pat, that card made me hungry--YUM!

Happy birthday, Liz.  I hope you have a very special one!  You, too, Cowgirl!

I went for a long walk before dawn this morning, then did some chores around the house; then went to the senior center and built a clubhouse--all by myself!  :) ;)  We have been asked to read stories to the children for the reading day, and they wanted something to dress up our booth.  They got me these huge sheets of cardboard, 40 X 60 inches, and I painted them up to look like a kids' clubhouse.  I painted the boards, knot holes, cracks, etc., made a little window, painted NO GIRLZ ALLOWED,  struck out the girlz and put BOYS, painted Mickey Mouse ears and some names of kids.  One of the gals at the center printed out Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the computer in raggedy letters and cut them out.  I made the back wall 2 pieces of the cardboard wide, one side the same and the other side to lay horizontally.  They will get a rug and a rocking chair, and we are all set!  Also will have magic markers so the kids can print their names on the walls.  It took me about three hours all together.  Fun!  :)

I got my moulding, and it is cut wrong!  They cut the bevels of the pieces so that the unfinished edge will be on the outside and the finished edges inside.  Now, that won't work!  And they are closed until Monday, so I have to wait........

Talk to you later, time to switch laundry loads!

Hi everyone.

First of all, Etta Sue, please check into a program called Network Magic http://www.purenetworks.com/download/ .  I have used it for years.  I initially downloaded it for the 30 day trial and after using it the first time and finding it make networking very easy, including sharing printers, I purchased it the same day and have never regretted it.  As long as you have a wireless network in your house it works beautifully.  It won't cost you to try it.  Sorry you had so much trouble.  I didn't have success with a wireless operation on my printer either so have the cable to my desktop and then just share it on the laptop.  You can also share files with the program.

Pat, glad to read that Paul is doing better?  Is he in Virginia and is he where he can take calls?

Janet, you are so creative and I bet the kids at the library had a wonderful time.  Do you wear a costume as you read to the children?  Glad you were able to spend time with Diane and her family and attend Abby's games.

Happy Birthday Liz and Cowgirl.  Sorry to read of the new health problems for Amanda and at a time when she is back i school and working.

Marilyn, that is a very pretty Birthday card.  I love the graphics on the card.

Judy, so sorry to hear of the death of Kassie's friend.  That manner of death is so devastating to loved ones and friends because there will never be answers.  Glad you got positive news from your appointment as to future relief for your shoulder.

Carol, it is amazing that some of the workmen can have any work the way they attend to their commitments.  We have been fortunate to have good contractors that have been very reliable and have completed their work ontime.

Al, I understand completely your comment about your eldest daughter getting a job.  We recently had that same sense of relief with our son.

This has been a long day for us but do have praise to God for the result of the heart cath that our daughter had today since both bypasses were completely open.  She had gone to the ER very early yesterday morning after waking up with severe chest pain.  They did a stress test and other tests yesterday and decided they should go back in an check her heart today.

They also discovered her sodium is too low and her liver enzymes were elevated.  So they are keeping her in the hospital again tonight.  We don't know  whether she will go home  tomorrow or not but we will not go back down tomorrow as she has her wheelchair in her room as that is how she went to the hospital yesterday.

There is a lot of walking in the hospital and I was able to use the chair to go back over to her apartment to get a couple of things and also get around in the hospital to the Heart Center, cafeteria and back to her room.  Without it am sure I would have been totally exhausted as still haven't gotten all my strength back from spending most of several days laying down.  Pat was exhausted from all the walking.  She did take her cane and think that helped a bit but as soon as we got home we both took a long nap.  She says we are going to out eat this evening as she is too tired to face the kitchen.

Thank you for the lovely Birthday wishes.  Wish I could eat that Pat, but since it is pretend, will indulge ;)  Happy Birthday Cowgirl.  Marilyn, you are very talented.

Wendy had to have another scan today so we went out for lunch after as a Birthday treat.  We went to my favorite Market where they have the best bread and a great little place to eat.  I like to buy their bread as it is all organic products and so good.  We talked to a trained expert about Amanda's virtigo.  It is really serious as lasts days and she can't even stand when the attacks come.  Not simply getting dizzy.  Got something called Turameric (New Chapter and that is really a good brand) and Wendy is going to take her to see the lady in her office.  She stated it is caused from inflamation and allergies....so worth a try.  This is someone who is a trained medical person but works outside of the box....

Marilyn, to answer your question, MLA is Member of the Legislative Assembly....kind of like your senators (?)  HST is a Sales Tax that replaces two other taxes and now includes things that were exempt in the past.  We are having a lot of anger over it.  There is good and bad.  My opinion is that now in place, we do not need a $30M vote to see if folks want it.  The problem is the way it was sneaked into our lives without people having the option of an opinion.  Nothing new in our society in these times....One way or another, we have to pay for services and it is done thro' taxes!

Sorry if I am not the most cheerful person at the moment.  Hurt a lot and all the rain is not a help.  Will have to come and post some 'Smiles' again.  Where have all the folks gone who used to post?  Read that Eliot Switzer will be having a talk program on CNN in Oct.  Remember him, the guy who was a gov. and had to resign in disgrace.  Guess that is good for either a laugh or a good sigh....Well, God will deal with all the mess in our world.  We just have to stay strong in our faith, Right?

God Bless,

Liz

Liz Happy birthday.  We too have had to suffer the HST.  It is a terrible tax for those of us who need to drive everywhere.  When the HST went on our gas went up 8 cents a liter.  To over 4.00 a gallon.

Etta Sue I too hate computers.  Thankfully Sunday Heather is coming over and will see what she can do with mine.  Half the time I can't get on line.

Marilyn I pray all goes well with surgery.

Happy birthday to the birthday girls!!!

It's almost noon here and I am still drinking my morning coffee!!

I went to Best Buy yesterday and they want me to bring in my laptop to see if I do have a corrupted windows installer.  No!  Or have the Geek squad come here to install the printer to the wireless router.  No!  In other words, everyone wants money!  A clerk did say she had to turn off the printer, the laptop and the router and then turn them all back on and then her printer recognized the router.  So if that doesn't work, Larry, when I get back from my little trip to Precious Moments, I will download Network Magic and see how that works.  If it doesn't, I will use the printer with the USB ports!  Question Larry!  I am confused.  Does network mean sharing files, printers, etc. between, say my desktop and laptop OR does it mean wireless?  Seems the instructions for the printer networking and wireless means the same.

Busy today making brownies for dessert for a bean supper at church tomorrow.  Packing for my little trip and then tonight Ivalou and I are going to the local Lions Club for a Fish Fry.  I am certainly ready to spend 4 days on the road and away from home.  I have got to slow down!  I don't have time for leisure at all!

Hi everyone.  Read a few messages this morning and just now writing a post.  It is another hot day here and still no rain.

Our daughter was discharged from the hospital this morning and is glad to be back home.  The doctor thinks her elevated liver enzymes are due to the medicine she has to take.  They have increased her diabetes medicine once again.

I have had a pretty restful day and have just taken things at a slow pace.  I was gone most of the morning but have been napping and watching Virginia Tech beat Boston College.  My best friend is happy as he is a VT graduate engineer.

Etta Sue, with Network Magic you decide which files on each computer you want to make available to the other computers that make up your network.  If the printer is connected to your desktop then from the Network Magic program running on the desktop you select share your printers.  The same is true for your files.  Pat has a printer connected to her desktop and it is shared so I can print to it from my laptop, which has no printer connected directly, just via Network Magic.  The program must be installed on each of the computers.  Obviously, the desktop or Pat's computer has to be running for the appropriate printer or files to be accessible to the other computers.  It sounds more complicated than it is.  By the way, I have no financial interest in the program, just think it is a great program.

Marilyn, I certainly hope your son is successful in his job quest.  That would be a long commute.

Judy, I filled my car with gas this morning and it was $2.49/gallon.  I do remember when our gas prices were over $4 per gallon.  I know there is a conversion factor between liters and gallons.

Liz, it seems that politicians have an unstoppable appetite for more and more taxes and that is always the answer to every program.

Etta Sue

Did I tell you I was stressed??  Hunh??

Well, my last catastrophe was I connected my GPS to my computer to get the latest updates.  I was saving my items to my computer.  It was taking too long so I 'aborted' the save.  I put the GPS in my car and no maps!!  What?  Then when I tried to reload them, it said not enough space on the device.  I tried everything I could think of.  Finally I looked a location to buy another.  Walmart at Noblesville.  Open 24 hours.  So at 10:24 I went to Walmart and bought another GPS.  Not as a good of a model...the old one has more bells and whistles.

So when I got home I opened up the drive that I have the old GPS in and it said I had maps but not all of them.  So I deleted all the maps.  Bought some online and it took 3 hours to install them.  Now I think I have my old GPS back.  I will see today.  If so, I will see if I can take the new one back and get credit for it!

Other than that and packing and making the brownies for tonight, all is fine at the Gann household.  I need sleep but maybe tonight or tomorrow night in a motel.  I have my AAA Tour books so if I don't make it to Precious Moments, I will stop and still have a few days of rest!

The Fish Fry was great...the food and the seeing people I hadn't seen for awhile.

Hi everyone.  I am ready and waiting until it is time to go to church this morning.  It is overcast here today and in the very low 70s.  It is to stay in the 70s today with 100% chance of rain by 5 pm.  We sure need it.

Nothing new to write about so will be brief this morning.

Etta Sue, the last few days have been very frustrating for you.  It sounds like you are ready to get away and relax with a change of scenery.  Hope you have a great trip.

This is something every high school, college and university student should read.  Let us strive to be honest in every "dot and crossed t's" in our lives.  We are the example to them.

What's wrong with a little plagiarism?

"I hate and abhor all falsehood, but I love your law."

Psalm 119:163 NLT

Kidnapping of the Brainchild
"In an essay for Time magazine, Lance Morrow writes about "kidnapping the brainchild":

book critic for a newspaper plagiarized an old essay of mine. Someone sent the thing to me. There on the page, under another man's name, my words had taken up a new life—clause upon clause, whole paragraphs transplanted. My phrases ambled along dressed in the same meanings....It argued and whistled and waved to friends. It acted very much at home. My sentences had gone over into a parallel universe, which was another writer's work....The thoughts were mine, all right. But they were tricked up as another man's inner life, a stranger's...

The Commandments warn against stealing, against bearing false witness, against coveting. Plagiarius is kidnapper in Latin. The plagiarist snatches the writer's brainchildren, pieces of his soul...

The only charming plagiarism belongs to the young. Schoolchildren shovel information out of an encyclopedia. Gradually they complicate the burglary, taking two or three reference books instead of one. The mind (still on the wrong side of the law) then deviously begins to intermingle passages, reshuffle sentences, disguise raw chunks from the Britannica, find synonyms, reshape information until it becomes something like the student's own. A writer, as Saul Bellow has said, "is a reader moved to emulation." Knowledge transforms theft. An autonomous mind emerges from the sloughed skin of the plagiarist."
